D3d11 Modern Renderer Crashlog
Splitting it off from bug 49233 where the not implemented multi threaded
rendering caused slow fps.
d3d11_device_CreateDeferredContext1 was a stub in 5.9-staging
https://github.com/wine-staging/wine-staging/commit/
0db92c336fcea4c383a150560f1034cd9cf76366 extended that function and now we
moved on from being slow due to not being multi threaded to a
buffer overflow because the implementation is not complete.

Graphical glitches on tower, gras and chatbox
There is a slightly annoying graphical glitch with the recent wow Shadowlands
Beta.
If you look at the chat box or the tower in the background, also the vegetation
it looks like some kind of fly screen or linen cloth is drawn on top of it.

Black DIamonds
If you use the 9.0.1 beta with wine-staging 5.14 there is some strange stuff
going on around the edges of characters. I assume it is supposed to be shadows.
It looks like black diamonds are scattered across the surface.
This happens both in modern DX11 rendering as well as DX12.

Logs that seem relevant to wine, stripped of the usual logs printed by the
executable.
The version 3.3.5.12340 hangs when logging in. Issue reproducible with Wine
5.19 and 5.20, worked fine until 5.19. It appears to be a regression.
Works fine with older versions (i.e. via 5.7 available through lutris).
Looks like something is timing out in ntdll, as per the logs attached.

Probably unfair to compare, but as of late (sorry, do not have a bisected
commit) d3d12 performance in WoW is roughly 50% of that of DXVK w/d3d11
I use these two patches still tho, and have not tried without them:

Preset 10, water and shadow a notch down. No MSAA (as MSAA is somewhat bugged
with vkd3d... creates seethrough textures some places).
vkd3d:
gpu usage: 32%
fps: 45
cpu usages per core: 0:74% / 1:56% /2-6:<40% (HT threads lower).
DXVK:
gpu usage: 53%
fps: 81
cpu usages per core: 0:82% / 1:73% / 2:64% /3-6:<50% (HT threads lower).
This is with a RTX2070 and Intel i7-8700K
I think there is some problem with the water effects, as when using DXVK it
looks "normal", and effect changes related to ingame setting. With vkd3d it
seems its just "low" that make a difference in appearance.
What kind of logs is needed to provide some useful information about this?
Doing a trace log will fill GB's pretty quick, but i should be able to do a
login and change water effects perhaps, and see if that provides something
useful?

I found this after troubleshooting an issue with proton-ge.
Description:
When running Ghostrunner, after getting through the intro videos, the demo has
sound but the official game does not.
-Further looking into the issue I found the official version ships with
xaudio2_9redist.dll, (Warframe does this also, and likely other games).
-This dll acts differently under Win7 than Win10. When you set the prefix to
Win7, sound returns.
Solution:
-The dll works the same as xaudio2_9, and just redirects to xaudio2_7, so I
copied the source for xaudio2_9, duplicated it for xaudio2_9redist, added it to
the configure files, and rebuilt wine with it. This allowed sound to work
properly, as wine now had a builtin version of the DLL to default to which was
agnostic of which windows version was running.

Occurs with Corel WordPerfect Office X3 and WordPerfect Office 12.
Start installer. Note font (print snapshot or whatever). Install application,
Quit installer. Start installer again. Font displayed is different.
With WordPerfect Office X3, the effect is obvious as the 'wrong' font is a
symbol font. With WordPerfect Office 12, the 'wrong' font is very narrow (I
think this may have previsouly been reported as <<poor rendering>>).
Problem affects not just the installers but also service packs and the
applications themselves (particularly Presentations). I would expect it
affects all installed applications.
To confirm the problem ...
1. remove all references to Corel installed fonts from system.reg which ever
way you choose but the following works:
cd .wine
mv system.reg system.reg~
sed -e '/TrueType.*C:.*\.TTF/d' -e '/TrueType.*C:.*\.ttf/d' system.reg~ >
system.reg
2. move Corel installed fonts to one side for a moment:
mv drive_c/windows/Fonts drive_c/windows/Fonts.wpo
mkdir drive_c/windows/Fonts
3. Start installer. Font is back to what is was before installation. Quit
installer.
3. Put back a bad font:
cp -p drive_c/windows/Fonts.wpo/WPCO03N_.TTF drive_c/windows/Fonts
4. Start installer. Symbol font makes screen indecypherable.
5. Try other fonts. Not all override the 'good' font. MTEXTRA.TTF and
WPHV04N_.TTF do.

Program Error Details
Wine will not open any windows programs.
I do not have the Windows part of my hard drive usable "on".
I installed Ubuntu first because I did not have the Win-XP code available.
I have not been able to re-install that part since I had the new mother board
put in in June of 12.
I have installed many or all updates.
I have a hard time locating and using certain program that I have installed for
Ubuntu, such as "lexmark-scan-legacy" program that I need to get the drivers
for my printer installed. The programs are somewhere because the Ubuntu
Software Center says they are installed.
My computer works very well considering the programs that just won't work.
Thank you for your help, I know you guys are so busy!! You all do a really
great job, & I love using Ubuntu!

crash log of acrobat 5
Acrobat is the only reason that I use wine. I seen that only version 5 of
acrobat is working on wine. Currently I updated my suse linux from 11.0 to
11.1. On suse 11.1 I installed wine 1.1.14 and it crashed after displaying a
splash screen, it krash also with 1.1.9. On previous version of suse 11.0 I
used wine 0.9 and worked fine.
I installed acrobat in a clean wine and with winetricks I installed mfc42 and
vcrun2008.
Please give some instructions how to make it work.

Crash log
2010 (2.0.3) version of Ikea home planner. Installs OK, but on adding an itme

There is not much to add to what I've written there actually, so copy&paste:
Application installs and starts, but all graphical views are completely garbled
(2D and 3D, like a TV without channel), the menus and icons seem to work and do
something but I can't see anything.

I have successfully installed ASC TimeTables in wine 1.2 under Ubuntu 10.04LTS
however whenever I execute the application, it shows the splash screen, then it
shows the environment and suddenly the app terminates unexpectedly with the
following error:
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 53 (X_CreatePixmap)
Value in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 31846
Current serial number in output stream: 31870
The same happens with wine 1.3.
Does anyone have any clue on what might be wrong?

Dope Wars 2.2 bad rendering on Wine
When playing Dope Wars 2.2 on wine-1.3.17-173-g6eed4c4, the portion of the game
window that shows the available weapons in the player's inventory has some
distortion that makes the text difficult to read, whereas the text appears
correctly when the game is run on Windows 7. There is no standard error output
of interest.

This will be probably a dupe of bug #34467, once regression testing is done in
#34467, because terminal output produced by Fallout/Fallout 2 before crashing
is very similar to the one in bug #34467.
Arx Fatalis also crashes on start, can be reproduced with the demo version as
well. The following error message is shown by the game:
"A DDraw object has a non-zero reference
count (meaning it was not properly cleaned up)."
Fallout and Fallout 2 (GOG.com versions) crash when I start a new game, but
with a different backtrace.

Terminal output
Microsoft GIF Animator's setup program seems to run smoothly at first, but
after clicking the "complete install" button, it won't finish the installation.
It produces a message which simply says "Microsoft GIF Animator setup did not
complete successfully."

wine-1.7.1-158-g88c2a18 log+crash
Recent commits have made Age 2 unplayable, the game crashes early with random
backtraces. I will make a regression test ASAP, for now there is the log
attached.
It works very well in wine 1.6. Intel graphics board.
Despite different backtraces each time this is always present before the crash:

Steps to reproduce:
1) remove ~/.wine
2) wine sr2000v1_6.exe
3) click next several times
4) Wine error appears after choosing install directory
Problem doesn't occur on Wine 1.1.20 so this is an regression. Regression test

The problem is "WinMgmt.exe" which ought to be a service but due to Wine
insufficiency the service thinks it's a normal process not showing usual
service process behaviour as registering control handler and the like.
If you do 'wineserver -k' and try to start anything with Wine nothing will
happen until wineboot times out...
As quickfix, start regedit (wait until wineboot timeout) and set service start
type key for "WinMgmt" to manual start, e.g. "2" -> "3".
Also a kernel driver (service) that is installed with WMI "smbios" fails to
load but this currently harmless.
If we look now in "c:\\windows\\system32\\WBEM" we see the whole stuff
installed.
The logs in "logs" subdirs are not revealing much so we have to increase the
log level:

"WinMgmt bIsService = 0" is the culprit.
The process retrieves token information and checks if process token groups
contain "SECURITY_INTERACTIVE_RID" (-> normal process) or
"SECURITY_SERVICE_RID" (service process).
I think it's actually services.exe that adds the SECURITY_SERVICE_RID sid to
the newly created service process (token groups).
This requires some infrastructure, including wineserver.
I already quick-hacked a path to verify this and it works as expected, letting
the service successfully start ;-)

Cross Code Screen Freeze Terminal wine-6.0
With the game Cross Code, the screen freezes for a few secs in wine-6.0 with a
clean wine prefix. This issue does not happen right away, you have to play the
game for a while to see the issue come up.
I saw on the terminal this message just before the screen freeze up for a few
seconds.
01b8:fixme:d3d:create_texture_view OpenGL implementation does not support
texture views.
Not sure if that's the issue but figure i'd mention it. Anyways i'll upload the
full terminal messages log.

get_timezone_info in dlls/ntdll/unix/system.c appears to compute the daylight
saving time changes for a given year in a smelly if not buggy way. I don't have
any specific examples of mistaken computations, but the code seems to basically
work by chance.
More specifically, the indention of the code seems to be the following:
* two time_t values are computed, corresponding to the beginning and the end
of the requested year (year_start and year_end);
* a binary search procedure is used to narrow down that interval around a DST
change event.
However, this cannot work in general, because binary searches only work for
monotonic data, and DST is not monotonic (each year it switches forth and back,
assuming there is DST at all). The algorithm works "by chance", because it
first tests the beginning of the interval and then half of the interval, and
usually beginning of January and beginning of June are on different DST values;
then the algorithm recurses on the first half of the year, and there DST is
monotonic (again, usually; I don't know if this is always true).
Moreover, year_end is also set to an invalid value (0th day of 12th month,
which is a month past December). Doing the "arithmetic" this corresponds to
31st of December, but is that a supported way to specify it? Why not directly
setting 31st of December? Anyway, the core of this bug is the issue with binary
search.

Recording your own sounds via microphone or importing WAV files in Windows 3D
Movie Maker shows an ingame dialog box stating "Sorry. We can't use that sound
file. Try using another sound file or one of the sounds from 3D Movie Maker."
1) Start a new movie.
2) Click the "Sounds" button at the top, then the Speech button (which is
represented by a pair of red lips).
3) Click either the microphone or briefcase icon at the bottom left to record
or import an audio file, respectively.
4) Either record microphone input or open a WAV file from your computer. After
recording microphone input, type in a filename for the recorded sound file and
click "OK".
The ingame dialog box I mentioned above shows.
The application should either import the recording (which plays back correctly
after stopping the recording) or the WAV file into the game.
Build 2021-01-17 on Arch Linux
This bug has been mentioned before in multiple test results on the AppDB page
for Windows 3D Movie Maker, but hasn't been reported on Bugzilla prior to now.
I think this may have something to do with msacm.dll, as the only useful
debug/console output given when this happens is "00ec:fixme:msacm:modSetVolume
stub".

How to reproduce:
- create a 32-bit prefix
- download winetricks with new powershell verb
(https://github.com/Winetricks/winetricks/pull/1440)
- install these verbs into the prefix: powershell arial d3dcompiler_47
dotnet472
- set Windows version to 10
- install Magic: The Gathering Arena
- Launch MTGALauncher.exe
The launcher will try to download the game but then return "Oops! Something
went wrong while updating".
Seeing how this wasn't an issue before, I've run a bisect and found that
2c68c530afbe704698f5a38674e7c72806c7c07a (kernel32: Move file time functions to
kernelbase.) was the cause of the regression. Reverting that commit against
Wine 4.17 fixes the issue.
Should note that this doesn't happen with version set to "Windows 7".
Let me know if any logs will be needed from me with any specific debug
channels.

Output when running Halo Online and crash occurs.
After upgrading to Wine Staging 3.20 I noticed that Halo Online would hang as
soon as a I joined any multiplayer match. After some investigation, I noticed
that disabling the voice chat feature would cause the game to function
correctly.
With Wine Staging 3.19 the voice chat feature worked correctly.
I noticed in the release notes for 3.20 a stub DLL (qwave.dll) was added. This
was to fix Bug 46066. I believe this is causing the crash / hang with Halo
Online. It might also affect other games with in game voice chat
functionality.
I've attached the output from wine when running the game and when the crash
occurs.
The key line is:
wine: Call from 0x7b43e10c to unimplemented function qwave.dll.QOSCreateHandle,
aborting
Which then calls Audio Read timeouts, which cause the entire game to crash.

This is in regard to the desktop application for the LinkSoft "Secret!"
program.

There is a sync function that opens TCP port 8800 on the windows desktop side
which the Android application then connects to for sync'ing changes in the
underlying database.
The symptom is an error from the Android application that it can not sync and
to check your wifi connection.
This first happened while I was using the version of Wine supplied by Fedora,
while on Fedora 32. I found that they were providing a more "bleeding edge"
version compared to what WineHQ was providing so I un-installed the Fedora
version and installed winehq-stable using the WineHQ repository. That did fix
the issue.
A few days ago winehq-stable updated to version 6.0.0-2.1.x86_64 and the
problem returned.
My solution was to un-install wine, disable the repo and do a local dnf install
of the three rpms for 5.0.3-2.2.x86_64 from your download page.
This did fix the problem but I figure that I should open a bug report to see if
the issue can be resolved.
I had a VirtualBox Fedora 33 install that still had the 5 version, so I have
used that to replicate the issue...
Test with:

on linux-gentoo-5.4.80-r1 with wine-vanilla-5.22-r2, opengl .exe's cause wine
to crash. however they do work when wine is run with super-user privleges (e.g.
sudo wine ./saddle.exe). I have reason to believe this is a regression, because
I was able to run and test windows opengl executables in the past without
having to be logged in as root. i've attached the error log.
(the package was compiled with the opengl, abi_x86_64, abi_x86_32 features
enabled, amount others)
The executable is an OpenGL/SDL2 program I wrote and compiled with
mingw-w64-gcc. it is staticially-linked with GLEW and SDL2. would it help if I
attached the libraries I compiled against? I can also attach the executable if
you need, but I know .exe files usually get flagged as malware by email and
these sorts of things.
I am also using a wayland compositor (sway), and my x11 server is Xwayland. but
like I said earlier, wine has ran these executables in the past without having
to log in as root or log into an x11 server (e.g. xfce4). but I can test it in
xfce4 if you want.
In a windows VM the executable doesn't crash or require administrator
privileges. I've done some testing with it in virtualbox, but opengl in
virtualbox is an older incompatible version. I can also try with KVM/QEMU to
double check that that it's not a problem with the executable.
is it possible that it is just a file permissions error?

I needed to test some cross-built python ctypes modules, so I tried installing
win32/win64 python - the latest:
https://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.9.1/python-3.9.1-amd64.exehttps://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.9.1/python-3.9.1.exe
Both rejected the win7 and needed win 8.1 at least. Anyway, when it gets to the
"pip bootstrap" part, it generates the dreaded "unhandled exception" message.
Manually de-selecting it, installation went to completion, but running still
hangs or get the "unhandled exception" message (32-bit hangs, 64-bit fails with
'unhandled exception').
Similar experience with 3.8.7; so I went a lot earlier to 3.5.4 -
https://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.5.4/python-3.5.4.exehttps://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.5.4/python-3.5.4-amd64.exe
3.5.4 still gives the "unhandled exception" during installation with 'pip
bootstrap'. but at least skipping that part (with 'customize insall'), the
result - either the 32-bit or 64-bit ones - seems to run okay in wine.

A regression was introduced with wine-5.20; Game crashes at splash screen even
if run directly with "wine hl2.exe -game cstrike".
Error code: 0024:err:font:alloc_font_handle out of realized font handles
Downgrading to wine-5.19 fixes the regression.
I haven't run a bisect yet but probably

With 5.18 the Gameforge Client (and Runes of Magic) worked perfectly. After

Ok, I am still unable to run the game with wine 6.0r1 (from Lutris on
Debian/Sid). The game is from GOG. It crashes on startup with a black window.
I tried running winecfg and disabling mmdevapi and/or wail32 and it did not
help.

with the new version 0.9.57 of wine the graphic rendering in Serious Sam - The
Second encounter breaks. You can look through hills, walls or the earth. I'll

In Windows this program display window is a full screen transparent window,But
running this little program with Wine on Linux displays a full-screen white

Team Fortress 2 crashes while it's loading, without any sort of error message
from the game itself or a crash dialog. This is a regression, since it stopped
working in Wine 5.20.
I bisected it and the first bad commit is
7a54394d469480e4a5e7a8b3359f0e3b32515ac (gdi32: Move the realized font handle
allocation out of freetype.c.), which is why I set the component to gdi32.
Note that tf2 crashes when ran without Steam just after it finishes loading
(which might happen on Windows too, not sure), so if you are testing without
Steam running you have to look for when the black square that says "Loading"
disappears to know this issue isn't happening.

The MSXML 6.0 package is part of MindManager Pro v7.0 installer (app is
32-bit). It fails in default 64-bit WINEPREFIX as the MSXML6 redistributable
package is only for 32-bit.

The crash only happens when effects quality is set to medium or high (can be
adjusted from the launcher or via game option).
The game requires native d3dx9_36.dll to prevent an early crash, due to
unimplemented function d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXCreateCubeTextureFromFileExA
The problem is present with Wine-1.0.1, 1.2.3...1.3.x
Steps to reproduce the problem in the demo:
1. Install the demo. Place msvbvm60.dll in the game directory. Also install
native d3dx9_36 via winetricks.
2. Start the launcher via AS_launcher.exe and go to <Options>. Make sure
effects are set to either medium or high. Click on <Save and Play>. (You can
also disable in-game music here if you find bug #28850 annoying).
3. When the main menu appears select campaign and initiate a mission. During
the loading stage a crash will happen.
Workaround: native d3dx9_28.dll

The game "The Void" (from Steam) occasionally crashes with a page fault.
Unfortunately I can't say much about what triggers this. It seems to crash
most often in the transition between areas, but sometimes it works.
This is using 1.5.11 from the ubuntu-wine PPA.

empty LOTRO store Window on 6.0-rc2
When switching from the current winehq-stable (5.22) to winehq-devel (6.0-rc2)
on Linux Mint 20 (amd64) the LOTRO store no longer renders but shows a blank
window, rendering it unusable (see attached screenshot).
The only workaround is to run the legacy client, which delegates the store to
an external browser instead of showing it ingame, but that one lacks modern
graphics options and is prone to crashing due to lack of 64 bit support for
more addressable memory.

while checking bug 49563 ("Adobe DNG converter crashes after updating to wine
5.12") I've noticed that Adobe DNG converter 13.x installer reports success on
all Wine 3.x, 4.x, 5.x releases but leaves a broken installation until Wine
5.12. The main binaries are missing.
Adobe DNG converter 13.x requires WinVer set to 'Windows 10' otherwise the
installer will refuse to run.
This was fixed by commit

The implementation of shlwapi.dll!SHMessageBoxCheck is returning incorrect
values.
My Windows app's implementation was simply:

On the latest WINE builds from both Stable and Development, SHMessageBoxCheck
is returning IDOK (0x1) and IDCANCEL (0x7) for YES and NO, respectively.
Understandably, chaos ensued.
This should be a clear code bug, but the repro I used was:
* download PalMod from
https://zachd.com/palmod/releases/obsolete/PalMod-1.68.rar
* extract all files and open PalMod
* open any file with File :: Load ROM By Game :: Developer Mode :: Unknown Game
Mode
* change the palette in the palette view, then attempt to switch to a different
palette using the combo boxes
* PalMod now calls SHMessageBoxCheck, and the bogus returns from WINE's
implementation results in aberrant behavior
"wine --version" returns wine-3.6 (Ubuntu 3.6-1).
I'll be adding a work-around for this to current builds of PalMod (1.70beta15
and newer), but that's of course not the best way to fix this concern.

After upgrading to Kubuntu Jaunty, City of Heroes characters show a horrible
staggering when you try move consistently in any direction. The character
animation resets at the interval equivalent to the keyboard delay.
So, it's as if the application is seeing you press the key over and over -
instead of holding it down.
Turning off keyboard repeat in the system options eliminates this issue.
Modifying the delay only slows the initial staggering.
