Hi again,
thanks for exhaustive reply Mike anyway I'd like to know
if it's possible to set somehow the SO_BROADCAST flag
so that I can keep working on VB6 as normal user...
I've got security issues about flooding but is it secure
running wine as root?
My VB6 app simply use a socket and I think it's a quite common
app so I guess many people may have my same problem...

Change to your fake windows/system directory, then run "touch ws2_32.dll". See
if that makes any difference.

Yes, the trace indicates that it's failing inside the crypto code, that doesn't
mean it's unimplemented however.
I'll confirm this bug. Without a test app to reproduce this crash, there's not
much we can do to fix it, unless somebody recognises this trace.

OK, I'm currently working in this area, any my app attempts to use multicast, so
I have a feeling I'm going to hit this problem sooner or later.
A bit of research leads me to conclude that the problem is that Linux prevents
you from sending packets to a broadcast address, unless the SO_BROADCAST option
is switched on. If you're root, this rule no longer applies, which is why
running the program as root fixes it.
This gives us a problem. Windows 9x allows broadcast sockets without any
security. Windows NT+ does not (you have to be an administrator).
I'm going to mark this WONTFIX - I believe it's not actually a bug, rather just
a part of the Linux security system. I guess we could detect broadcast addresses
and set SO_BROADCAST manually in win9x mode, but I'm not convinced it'd actually
be a good idea.
Reporter - I'd suggest you just run the app as root and trust it: writing to
broadcast addresses is essentially a trusted operation anyway as you can easily
flood the local subnet.

Back again!
I think I found an importent information!
I installed HalfLife again! Perheaps you know: HalfLife Setup plays a Sound File
at the beginning of installation.
When HalfLife Setup tries to play this soundfile this high amount of error
Messages starts appears ... (the same happens when starting the game HalfLife).
After this Soundtest a new Window become opened:
"Setup has determinated that some system components may be less than requirements:
Digital Sound: WAVE Support Requirred"
Whats's this ? Who i can install this "WAVE Support"?

Summary: JP soft's Take command /32 ver 3.01A displays "?"
characters instead of text in command window
Product: Wine
Version: 20030318
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.jpsoft.com/oldver/tc32301.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: juan(a)virtual-orbis.com
It is supposed that this app acts like an enhanced "DOS Command prompt window"
that supports JP soft's 4DOS features under M$ windows GUI without using the
4DOS DOS-mode binary.
When running under Wine, the window is drawn correctly, menus are ok, but it
does not display text in the app's command text window (it displays "?"
character instead of typed characters), this text appears instead on linux's
tty from where wine was invoked.
(must change text colors in the app to see the "?" characters, otherwise it
appears to be "blank").
Moreover, the app open a second window that is supposed to be the console for
output of the typed commands that is broken (cannot show its content)
I'm reporting this version of Take Command, because lastest (5.0) version does
not work at all under wine (starts debugger).

We've been seeing reports of this for a while, Alexandre is working hard on a

Hmm, nothing springs out at me from these files. The backtrace is a bit wierd.
The relay isn't much use, it seems the program traps the error, you'd need to
look further back at any rate to find the call that failed.
Without access to the app, I can't go much further with this. Maybe somebody
else knows. Updating the summary to be more accurate (this doesn't have anything
to do with createprocess i don't think)

Summary: Screen is wiped/blanked on usage of DirectDraw
Product: Wine
Version: 20030318
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: mike(a)theoretic.com
Some desktop apps that use DirectDraw, such as Java Swing and QuickTime cause
the contents of the screen to be erased. Forcing a repaint, by dragging windows
around, or by switching to a VT and back to X, restores the screen to what it
should be. The only ddraw fixmes I can see are:
fixme:ddraw:Main_DirectDraw_SetCooperativeLevel (0x4027f258)->(00000000,00000008)
fixme:ddraw:Main_DirectDrawClipper_Initialize
(0x4027cc90)->(0x4027f264,0x00000000),stub!
fixme:ddraw:get_display_window clipper clip lists not supported
So presumably this is a problem with clipping?

This sounds like the glibc upgrade broke you wine install. Please downgrade your
libc, recompile Wine, and see if it fixes it. If so, then this is a known issue,
it should probably be tracked in Bugzilla though.

Hmm, I run Galeon with Wine all the time. I don't think the two are related.
Can you get a backtrace for this?
Run the program in the wine debugger, winedbg foo.exe then when it freezes hit
ctrl-c and then when "bt", to get a backtrace.
If you're on CodeWeavers wine, you may wish to try it with the latest WineHQ.
