I've been pondering doing this for a while, but since I have other priorities I won't be starting until it drifts to the top of my todo list or some funding is available. It's not a huge amount of work but it basically involves rewriting the system tray code, so it's not a 2 minute hack job either. This should probably be done for 0.9 as it's a highly user-visible problem and will only get more visible as time goes on and the legacy systray protocol is abandoned. This is a very popular addon for the game Ultima Online(www.uo.com). This program will interact with the game to do tasks for you in game. UOAssist has to start the game itself and this seems to be where the problems occur. Ultima Online itself runs great if run alone. I run all of this with no DLLOverrides for either program. Also, I run Debian Unstable with the WINE package avaliable through Debian apt-get sources(http://packages.debian.org/unstable/otherosfs/wine.html). When I try to run UOAssist, it will crash when it starts the game executable. The font is evidently SYMBOL_CHARSET, but on Windows the program doesn't have to specify this for it to be correctly found. I can get it to be found in Wine by duplicating the two lines of code in the dlls/gdi/freetype.c routine WineEngCreateFontInstance() that compare each font face name with "Symbol" and set up the search lfCharSet appropriately. The comment immediately preceeding these lines hints that this isn't necessarily done right in Wine, and the NWCV15 font is evidently in the same class as Symbol in that respect. Once the program can find the font though, it still doesn't work - the symbols from the font are not displayed, just square boxes where they should appear. It's not obvious to me whether these two problems might be related or not. Then you are probably using a memory manager and have lots of conventional memory free. Old versions of Microsoft's EXEPACK require atleast one segment (64k) below it to be able to unpack the program into memory. If you have a lot of free memory, let's say above 600k, then programs can be partially loaded in the first segment. This causes EXEPACK to generate this error. It seems that the cause of the problem is that the mount point for your floppy does not exist untill autofs mounts it. So another fix for your problem is to define a mount point (create that directory). That however seems to be defeating the way that autofs works. I am fairly familiar with this portion of wine and how it behaves on linux. I would also like it changed but for different reasons. let me explain. In general a mount point has to exist in order to mount a device. That mount point has a st_ino number. When a device is mounted that number is different from when no device is mounted. The current (ASCII) code for returning the drive letter fails when the ino number changed. All this however is (almost) irrelevant to your patch. What is missing from this patch is the documentation. The sample config and users guide need to be updated to do this properly. documentation/samples/config documentation/configuring.sgml Are the relevant files. The diagnosis: The DRIVE_Init will throw away any mount-point that does not exist at startup time - it does not make it to the internal drive. It will not check later whether the mount-point came into existance somewhen in between - you need to restart The real way: There is no need to keep this behaviour, the wine's drive access method can handle it that a mount-point is removed somewhere in between: it prints warning messages and continues to work properly. This is partly the windowish way: just say the drive is inaccessible as warning during runtime, do not kill it beforehand. The patch: A .wine/config boolean option "AutoMount" is introduced that will default to the old behavior. When being enabled then a warning-message logged but the drive is kept in the internal drivelist and can be seen in the file-open dialog-box.
