Bug ID: 42006
Summary: Kurlewin Windows MIDI Librarian with M-Audio Uno on
Kurzweil - open - sysex fails to be passed
Product: Wine
Version: 1.8.5
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: leetdavy(a)coolgames.net

Created attachment 56440
--> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=56440
Kurlewin with "System Exclusive Messages" error displaying
Errors detected by Kurlewin from http://spanogle.net/kurlewin/
I use Ubuntu Studio 16.10 with USB M-Audio Uno MIDI interfaced to Kurzweil
K1000PX Pro.
I followed the README.txt that is installed application and when I open the
MIDI using a standard sysex command nothing is seen being sent or received to
identify the synthesizer to the windows application.
An error is popped up but message shows the expected data.
After exiting the next time and beyond the message no longer appears with the
error.
Running it with debug shows data is included
WINEDEBUG=+midi wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files\
\(x86\)/Kurlewin/Kurlewin.exe
For example:
trace:midi:modOpen Output port :0 connected 20:0
trace:midi:MIDI_NotifyClient wDevID = 0001 wMsg = 967 dwParm1 = 0000 dwParam2 =
0000
trace:midi:ALSA_modMessage (0001, 0005, 7DE438CB, 017768A0, 00000030);
trace:midi:modPrepare (0001, 0x17768a0, 48);
I used a different way to do installation from command line and then looked
for it where it should be unzipped.
I suggested to developer to add to the Kurlewin online help documentation
In Linux to use "winetricks" uninstall to install the setup.exe
as screen capture shows.
It is confusing to use uninstall choice in WINETRICKS to do correct
installation in default WINDOWS directory.
Found it in the DOS command line using WINE under windows.
c:/Program Files (x86)/Kurlewin$ ls -l

-rw-rw-r-- 1 leetdavy leetdavy 5685 Dec 16 09:13 ST6UNST.LOG
I then ran from command line (WINETRICKS) changed to the correct directory
with the Linux "wine" command and Kurlewin.exe to make attached screen capture.
$ pwd
c:/Program Files (x86)/Kurlewin
$ wine ./Kurlewin.exe
Other Linux users may find an easier way or give better feedback to you.
This is working with Ubuntu Studio 16.10 which is the latest low latency
kernel.
While experimenting I got some sysexe displayed so I attached the screen used
it to make this description more informative.
The developers website at http://spanogle.net/kurlewin/ has reference screens
of Kurlewin running on Windows
I can now try to ask about the capabilities or Kurlwin in simpler terms to
understand !

NOTHING EXPECTED -
BufNum 10, Bytes= 15
F0 7E 00 06 02 64 01 01 01

I figure this is correct from http://k1000.net/downloads/Manuals/K1Ksysex.pdf
page 6
"The 1000 defaults to a device ID of $00, although it may be set to any value
from $00 to $7F"

$07 ; Kurzweil ID
$64 $01 $01 $01 ; product ID
$05 $1F ; engine software version
$05 $0C ; setup software version

then System Exclusive Messages becomes this after clicking OK
BufNum 0, Bytes= 17
F0 7E 7F 06 02 00 20 08 63 0E
50 02 20 31 32 35 F7
I suspect I need to experiment with the GENERAL and ADVANCED OPTIONS settings !
I correctly see program changes on Kurlewin as I press the front panel buttons.

Summary: Duel of the Planeswalkers 2014 - eventual UI
corruption

This is a rather minor problem, but in case it is a symptom of a problem
effecting other applications I'm reporting it anyway.
What happens: During the loading/process of setting up the 'table' my screen
will first go black momentarily and once the loading process is actually
complete, the "board" will be displayed however certain elements of the UI will
be missing, such as buttons, text and some graphical effects.
How to reproduce: (Steam version, demo available, using FGLRX and wine 1.7.4)
Start a game as normal, when the actual 'virtual table' has loaded and you're
able to decide between keeping your seven cards or draw new ones - press escape
and select "Restart Duel" (it is not limited to restarting, any new match will
do, restarting is merely quicker) about 20 times >_> eventually the UI will
become corrupt.
The corruption will coincide with two lines of err:d3d, and a trace yields:
trace:d3d:context_set_current Switching to D3D context 0x190396a0, GL context
0x10003, device context 0x2006a.

err:d3d:context_set_gl_context Fallback to backup window (dc 0xc0087) failed

trace:d3d:context_set_current Already using D3D context (nil).

Summary: Improper focus Behaviour for undecorated windows
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.4
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: medasaro(a)comcast.net
Classification: Unclassified
When using wine in Linux with the 'Allow the window manager to decorate the
windows' option in winecfg unchecked, applications open with their main windows
out of focus. In order to bring the main window of a newly launched application
into focus, it must be manually defocused by clicking on another open window
and then brought back into focus again by being clicked on. The same problem
applies with some applications that create windows without the standard
decorations, such as iTunes.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Open winecfg and deselect the 'Allow the window manager to decorate the
windows' option in the 'Graphics' tab.
2) Close winecfg.
3) Open winecfg again.
4) Note that the decoration on top of the winecfg window is now grey,
indicating that it is out of focus.
5) Note that winecfg window will not come into focus by clicking on it or its
title bar.
6) Bring another window from a native Linux application into focus by clicking
on it.
7) Click on the winecfg window again and note that it now comes into focus and
behaves normally.

Running MeshCAM V7 build3, on Ubuntu 16.04LTS, with Wine 2.0 rc3.
Notification/Message/Progress windows are minimum sized, making contents
un-viewable. I think they would be zero-sized except they are constrained by
the presence of an 'OK' button.
Program seems to work fine otherwise.
Tested same program on a native Windows-7 installation. All
Notification/Message/Progress windows are full sized and can be easily viewed.

Many apps rely on major sub-components from third-parties. It would be
beneficial to identify these in an app entry to avoid duplication of
installation guides and workarounds for them, and to facilitate bug reporting.
For example: QuickTime, Internet Explorer, NET Framework, Adobe Flash, Java,
SecuROM.
I would like to see an expandable list for an app that lists dependencies,
their versions, ratings, and links to related guides or wiki entries.
This would also help with bug reporting. For example bug #34989 (Caphyon
Advanced Installer breakage) would reference an AppDB entry for that component
only. All other apps that have it as a dependency would automatically be shown
in the AppDB "affected apps" listing for that bug.
AppDB entries for components that don't have testable standalone executables
wouldn't have test reports of their own. They would need a reverse look-up of
dependent apps that have been tested. Identifying and matching-up related
version numbers could be difficult however.

That .lnk file points to

.hta is an "html application", a trusted .html file; see
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms536496(v=vs.85).aspx
(The .hta doesn't do anything particularly useful; it just uses vbscript
and WShell to launch alh.exe, like the verschluggener icon should
have, so the workaround is pretty easy: point the icon at alh.exe.
The .hta might do one little useful thing: center the window on the screen.)

doesn't function properly
Product: Wine
Version: 2.0-rc1
Hardware: x86-64

Status: UNCONFIRMED

TechNet HTA test
Xubuntu 14.04 x86_64, AMD Phenom 9550, Wine Staging
Windows Version: Windows XP
Encountered this problem while investigating a workaround for bug #26463
affecting the CD game "18 Wheels Of Steel: Big City Rigs" (includes American
Long Haul, Garbage Truck, and Bus Simulator).
Installed IE7 via winetricks 20161005 and set override for mshta.exe to native.
Executing the CD autorun installer works but the window is the wrong size and
images are duplicated (see attached screenshots).
wine reg.exe ADD HKCU\\Software\\Wine\\DllOverrides /v "mshta.exe" /t REG_SZ /d
"native,builtin"
wine C:\\windows\\command\\start.exe /d d:\\ d:\\autorun.exe Launch.hta
I peformed two other tests - a basic "HTA Test" example script from TechNet
(attached) and getdate, a simple date calculator from Rob van der Woude.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee692768.aspxhttp://www.robvanderwoude.com/files/getdate_hta.txt
HTA Test loads a window with a button to start the script but clicking the
butto causes a large blank dialog window to pop up.
The getdate script loads an oversized window with a series blank dialogs in
front (can be closed). Language in visible pull-downs is not English.
Attempting to use a pull-down results in more blank dialogs.
Tests performed on Wine with IE7 (7.00.5730.13). Windows Script Host 5.6 and
5.7 used. Corefonts installed. Both tests work in WinXP with same version of
IE7 installed.
Note that the version of mshta.exe always matches that of Internet Explorer.
Testing other versions of IE7 in Wine is difficult due to the lack of
standalone installers. Full version list:

The getdate script generates an error "Object expected".
Tests performed on Wine with IE6 (6.00.2600.0000) and IE6 SP1 (6.0.2800.1106).
Windows Script Host 5.6 and 5.7 used. IE 6 SP1 installed over IE6 (winetricks)
using archive linked in the following post:

AIMP http://www.aimp.ru/ works perfectly on wine and I like it more than any
OSX music player, but I am having the big issue described in this video:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/v8mbpstyqjcaw ... 5.mp4?dl=0
Basically, while the software is running on the foreground, with mouse focused
on it, the music plays perfectly for as long as I want. When the software goes
to the background (I use other programs and apps) after around 30s - 1 minute,
the sound freezes, repeating the last second of sound endlessly.
Here is another video showing quickly the problem in an even more obvious way.
When it starts stuttering and then I just mouseover on the player window, the
sound is back https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ardjn16jce51 ... 9.mp4?dl=0:
I am using currently wine 2.0rc2, installed using brew. But I was having the
same problem with previous wine versions. I tried renice for setting higher
priority to the process but it does not seem to be related with anything like
that.
I attach the messages I was getting on my Terminal window while doing the test,
not sure if there is anything relevant there.

This bug applies to the game Cyber Chess by Cosmi, both the retail CD-ROM and
downloadable trial.
The trial can be downloaded from
https://www.cosmi.com/login.aspx?Next=Download&Matnr=CDRS831 (registration
required) or e.g.
http://www.zdnetasia.com/downloads/windows/cyber-chess_sw-39349263.htm (no
registration required). It's about 80MB.
Just before starting a game (after the FMV sequence), there is a dialog box
which says "Sorry, not enough memory to proceed. Quitting".
The Cosmi web site
http://www.cosmi.com/cgi-script/csFAQ/csFAQ.pl?command=viewFAQ&database=Cyb…
points to an article on the Microsoft web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894472 "Third-party programs that require lots
of memory do not run in Windows XP Service Pack 2".
The MS article says: "This hotfix includes a new Xpsp2res.dll file that
dynamically finds a memory location to reduce virtual memory fragmentation.
Before you apply this hotfix, we recommend that you ask the vendor of your
programs to verify that this solution is acceptable. This hotfix enables the
new Xpsp2res.dll file to find a memory location dynamically and reduce virtual
memory fragmentation."
With Windows Vista, the out of memory dialog also appears. However, the game
runs okay under Vista in XP SP2 compatibility mode. The out of memory dialog
appears when running the game under Wine in XP mode.

Reporter: teddyb(a)mailinator.com
Running IDA Pro 6.8 for Windows (32 bit) using Wine 2.0 rc2 for macOS,
when trying to split different windows, the process stops responding.
IDA has a feature that allows dragging windows in order to split them so you
can watch multiple windows in one monitor. When dragging, an overlay of 4
arrows appear in the center of the screen. Dragging the window to an arrow puts
the window in the arrow direction.
Using the above setup, the behavior is not as expected. Instead, the dragged
window stays in "dragging mode", and the rest of the process disappears.
Clicking with the mouse of pressing any key doesn't do anything - the only
solution is to close the Wine process.

Hi,
unfortunately within my configuration several (but I could say 'all') old game
I tried to execute in a resolution lower than 1440x900 shows flashing graphic
artifacts.
First of all my configuration:
- Software: Gentoo x64 Mesa 11.1.0 - Gallium v0.4 - any version of Wine from
the 1.4 to 1.7.55 (I could say 'any' version because I'm trying them also with
PlayonLinux, not only but also ;) and of course the anomaly appears in both
way)
- Hardware: AMD R9 290X Intel Core I7 CPU
Then game names:
- Sacred
- Divine Divinity
- Pharaoh
Now, I'm not totally sure it's only a Wine bug because with AMD Catalyst this
exact issue is not there but anyway I'm opening a bug here to check Wine
behaviour with OSD drivers: maybe there is something wrong?
How can I help in the analysis?

The launcher for the game APB: Reloaded is a .NET app.
It has many glitches with wine-mono but I used to be able to click "Repair",
wait for the game to update itself, and then click on the "Start" button that
showed up when the repair was done and start the game.
Since wine 1.9.2, clicking the "Repair" button does nothing, which prevents the
"Start" button to show up.
A visible sign of this change is that mousing over the buttons does not make
the bitmap of the button show up anymore as it used to.
A regression testing revealed this commit to be the cause of this change :

Hi,
I'd suggest that wineboot checks the value of WINEARCH when creating a new
prefix Wine, and errors out with a nice error message if WINEARCH is unknown
(neither empty, nor win32 or win64).
Currently I think there's only a test if #arch in system.reg is valid.
This check especially helps new users who confuse win32 and wine32, e.g.:
$ rm -rf .wine
$ export WINEARCH=wine32
$ wineboot
wine: created the configuration directory '/home/jens/.wine'
[...]
wine: configuration in '/home/jens/.wine' has been updated.
$ grep \#arch .wine/system.reg
#arch=win64

System Shock 2 GOG Log
You need to be completely submereged to experience this, there are not many
areas in SS2 where you can do this. The game pauses for the moment and then the
character dies. If you transfer your save file to Windows the issue is still
there, the save file is corrupted. Diving is necessary to complete SS2. I have
a GOG version of the game.
At first I thought this is just a problem with the game itself. But I noticed
that the issue affects only the users of the Mac version (Linux too?) on GOG,
which uses Wine. Check out this forum thread:
http://www.gog.com/forum/system_shock_2/system_shock_2_mac_cant_dive/page1 You
can find there corrupted save files and the ones fixed with an SS2 save files
editor.
The problem certainly needs more testing to be confirmed. The thing is, it
really takes a lot of time to find the area for diving in SS2. We can try to
use save editors to get faster to these places.
Maybe somebody could also check whether the bug occurs on Linux?
The problem can't be reproduced in the demo (there's no water).

I've attached screenshots illustrating the problem. Installing "corefonts"

Issues: Some player character models go missing, loading certain zones (Mog

I've bisected this, and found commit 1061969eb6e29 to be the culprit. It is a
tiny commit that adds WINED3DFMT_FLAG_RENDERTARGET to WINED3DFMT_B5G5R5X1_UNORM
in format_texture_info[] in dlls/wined3d/utils.c.
It looks like this can somehow make wined3d_buffer_create_vb/ib fail on my

Reversing this particular patch on latest master solves all the problems.
(Tested at commit ad7cb436571ec, dated Apr 7, 2016). The buffer initialization
error goes away. The game runs quite stable without any issues.

Summary: The Forest: Terminal gets spammed with errors if Steam

Product: Wine

Status: UNCONFIRMED

If The Forest gets started while Steam is running in the background the
terminal gets spammed with the following error (being in the main menu and just
minimizing the game is already enough to see them):
err:module:find_forwarded_export function not found for forward
'xinput1_3.XInputGetStateEx' used by L"C:\\windows\\system32\\xinput1_4.dll"
This happens only if The Forest gets started while Steam is running in the
background. If The Forest gets directly started while Steam is not running in
the background this error does not appear.

launch the game, and click the options button. the options dialog appears, and
all of its checkboxes are rendered incorrectly due to a missing BS_LEFTTEXT
window style (aka BS_RIGHTBUTTON). instead of the label being placed to the
left of the box as it is on windows, wine places it to the right.
the BS_RIGHT style is also missing from the checkboxes, however it has no
effect because extended window style WS_EX_RIGHT is already set.
all this can be verified by running WinSpy++ on wine and windows and comparing
the checkboxes' window styles on both platforms.
note: i haven't checked the window styles of the other controls in the dialog.
i leave that as an exercise.

Copy of code where error occurs in Appload.exe
I am running on wine-1.9.8 (Staging).
Program is connected to a USB VCP serial device as COMnn. The behavior of
overlapped reads is different between Windows and Wine.
A Serial write is sent to the device, which triggers a response. The code below
is waiting for the response. The response is 8 characters, pretty much
immediately.
Under Wine, when I step with the VS2008 debugger remotely, the ReadFile returns
with IO_Pending, and I see the eight characters in the read buffer. The call to
WaitForSingleObject blocks until it times out, returns TIMEOUT, and the read
process is considered failed.
Under Windows, ReadFile also returns IO_Pending, read buffer unmodified. The
call to WaitForSingleObject returns Success. GetOverlappedResult succeeds with
read length of 8. Life is good.
If I set dwToRead to 8 the code works correctly under Wine. When it is at 64,
we have problems under Wine but not Windows.
ReadIntervalTimeout in COMMTIMEOUTS is 1000 so after one second without new
characters, the ReadFile should be considered complete and WaitForSingleObject
should return. This appears not to be happening under Wine. Is this fixable
under Wine?
Example code attached.
App is called Appload and is available here:
https://wiki.opticonusa.com/techsupport/en/Appload
To run the app and demonstrate the issue you would need an Opticon barcode
scanner, or a mock up of a scanner, on /dev/ttyACM0. App does an enumeration of
COM devices, so Wine needs registry mods as described here:
http://www.downtowndougbrown.com/2013/03/getting-x-ctu-in-wine-to-detect-yo…
I can likely provide whatever a credible developer needs if the example
attached is not sufficient.

wineboot is unable to create 32bit prefix on 64bit linux if when the folder
exists because existings (empty or otherwise) folders are treated as 64bit
prefixes.
To reproduce:
Create 32bit prefix:
# Create empty folder
mkdir /home/wine/photoshop
# Try setup a new 32bit prefix
WINEPREFIX='/home/wine/photoshop' WINEARCH='win32' wine 'wineboot'
Result wine gives this error:
wine: WINEARCH set to win32 but '/home/wine/photoshop' is a 64-bit
installation.
Remove the folder and you are able to created the prefix.
Create 64bit prefix:
# Create empty folder
mkdir /home/wine/photoshop
# Try setup a new 64bit prefix
WINEPREFIX='/home/wine/photoshop' WINEARCH='win32' wine 'wineboot'
Result:
64bit prefix is created!
I don't know if this is the intended behavior, but it is not intuitive and the
error message is not helpful.
The error is generated in /wine/dlls/ntdll/server.c on line 1116

Console output when the error occurs once
The application Anthem Room Correction 2 v1.0.1 reports "Unknown COM error

with an Anthem A/V receiver. The popup has a Retry button, but the error
repeats each time. Each time the error occurs, the console output prints this:
fixme:mmdevapi:AEV_GetVolumeRange stub
So the fact that this function is a stub may be the source of the problem. The
console output is attached.
The application can be downloaded at
http://anthemav.com/downloads/ARC-2%20Setup.zip, but you must have an Anthem
A/V receiver in order to get this far in it. You also need to install Microsoft
.NET 4.0 with winetricks and use the native Microsoft version of msvcr110.dll
or else there are problems at even earlier stages (bug 35648 and bug 35657). I
am happy to carry out suggested testing/debugging.

18eda5e82a5b92a5f22ccfcfd446ed288341fc1b.
And this bug can't be reproduced by current Wine development.

--- Comment #17 from Bruno Jesus <00cpxxx(a)gmail.com> ---
The client is still available but as expected it no longer connects and may
crash randomly as it does not handle failure very well.
Comment 8 and comment 13 talk about problems and solutions but it looks like in
all these years this was the only affected application.
Despite being a regression it is most likely abandoned as no longer able to
reproduce.

HACK: Blit ddraw surface to window at (1,1)
Seems that many of the older hacks don't work anymore (or need gdi32 renderer),
so here's a new one. Works with Wine 2.0-rc2 and probably any later versions as
well.
This hack copies ddraw surface to the window at (1,1) when the ddraw surface is
unlocked. This needs to be enabled with DDRAW_HACK=1 on runtime, so this
doesn't interfere with other applications.
This works at least for Diablo (partially, not neatly).

I have installed and started the game. During installation of the game wine
installs mono. On the main screen, I press "Start Demo". Then I choose the game
mode "Survival" wich is grayed out. Then the screen goes black, and the music
goes slightly down in volume. Then I press alt-tab, and see my LXDE desktop
again. Then I press ctrl-c in the console, but the game keeps running. then i
issue "killall CriticalMass.exe". Then the game stops.

Bug #: 34490
Summary: wine uninstaller does not list 64-bit wine addons
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.1
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Keywords: download, Installer, win64
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: msi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: austinenglish(a)gmail.com

Classification: Unclassified
I normally run 32-bit wine only, installed in /usr/local. I compiled wine64/32
and installed that to /opt/wine6432. I noticed, however, that the addons are
not in wine uninstaller. So:
$ rm -rf ~/.wine
$ /opt/wine6432/bin/wineboot
$ find .wine/ -iname smime3*
.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/gecko/2.21/wine_gecko/smime3.dll
.wine/drive_c/windows/syswow64/gecko/2.21/wine_gecko/smime3.dll
shows that both 32-bit and 64-bit gecko are installed. But:
$ /opt/wine6432/bin/wine uninstaller --list
{348C4E18-555F-4228-8924-15DDED955D0C}|||Wine Gecko (32-bit)
I see the same behavior in 1.4, fwiw.

I'm currently working on a test for this issue, but I'm not yet sure what
exactly causes it.
Is this patch just a hack or is it intended to be as actual solution? It seems
a bit odd to have RedrawWindow twice.

When attempting to redefine keys Regen will hang. This also sometimes happens
on Windows, but in Wine it happens 100% of the time.
