OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2

Crash if no sound is available
If I'm not having the permissions as the audio group Warcraft 3 will crash if
it starts (after the splash screen appeared). Adding my account to the audio
group solves the problem. In the attachments is a log of such a crash.

Ole32 and oleaut32 components are needed by some MS applications like MS Word

and edit the attached content. However, installing them inside Wine breaks the
onboard Explorer with an error:
'fixme:wintrust:WinVerifyTrust unimplemented for 4'

Video of the issue
This issue happens on all desktops, in the video of the issue I've attached I'm
using Gnome with Dash to Panel, but it also happens on KDE Plasma and Cinnamon.
Basically I've set my panel to always auto hide, and only when FL Studio is
maximized I can't make the panel show up anymore, whereas if I maximize other
wine apps I can still make the panel show up, as shown in the video of the
issue I've attached.
Perhaps Wine is making the compositor think that FL Studio is a fullscreen
video game, and that's why no matter what DE I use I can't make the panel show
up?
In the recorded video I was using Wayland and Wine was using xwayland.

Also, in the middle of the errors, I got a prompt to install wine mono
installer, and I clicked on "install", but the errors happen also without
installing it.
At the end of the errors, the configuration of wine finally does open, which is
the good part.
Few important points to mention:
1. I tested this on kali linux 2025.1, but also on linux mint 22.1, so it has
nothing to do with kali linux.
2. I tested this on winehq-devel version 10.3 (the latest version up to date)
3. I installed winehq-devel exactly by the steps written in
https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/wikis/Debian-Ubuntu
4. In the error log, I am not referring to the "fixme" messages, I know they
are
features that will be added in the future.
If there is anything you need more that is missing, please tell me.

Sonny, a game on Unity engine, started randomly freezing during gameplay after
I've updated WINE from v9.18 to v10.8. The game stops accepting input and even
the audio stops playing. But if I move mouse out of the WINE virtual desktop
and back in, the game starts working again.
Here's what CPU usage looks like during normal play and frozen state:
Normal:
- SonnyWindows.exe: 37% CPU
- wineserver: 8% CPU
Frozen:
- SonnyWindows.exe: 1% CPU
- wineserver: 100% CPU
I've managed to bisect the issue to the following commit:
commit 87ca5db40e2c1b37423bdc25101a5c5e39e67e6f
server: Use epoll_pwait2 for the main loop on Linux.
If I comment out #define HAVE_EPOLL_PWAIT2 1 in config.h and recompile WINE,
the problem goes away.
Game link: https://armor-games-studios.itch.io/sonny
I use Gentoo Linux. The issue may be reproducible in other Unity games as well.

Currently, containers need to run under the same OS for the apps targeted - ie
containerizing Linux apps requires that the host OS be Linux and containerizing
Windows apps requires that host OS be Windows. However, with Windows Subsystem
for Linux, containerized Linux apps can now run under Windows incentivizing
Windows over Linux for cloud providers.
Using wine to interconnect the host Linux system to the container orchestration
would allow containerized Windows apps to run under Linux for cloud deployment.

wmadec fixme's
Hi,
When running Wine 10.0.7 - from the Fedora reposity - I get the attached stub
warnings.
I don't know which component to file this under since 'wmadec' isn't in the
list, so feel free to move the ticket.
Thanks for creating Wine !
Best regards,
Jesper

Some fangames made in the Mugen engine rely on a DLL hook using a modified
ddraw.dll to add additional features, for whatever reason the games that depend
on this now crash on startup.

Wine 10.8 (DX12) console output
Outriders, Steam version, fails to launch.
It has the option to be launched using either DX11 or DX12 mode.
With DX11 a black screen is briefly shown, then it exits.
$ wine 'c:\program files (x86)\steam/steam.exe' -applaunch 68042 -force -dx11
With DX12 a black screen is shown, some audio plays, an initial icon is shown
(a loading screen?), but then it turns black and doesn't seem to do much else.
$ wine 'c:\program files (x86)\steam/steam.exe' -applaunch 68042
The 21 GB demo (Steam account required - appID 1435990) behaves the same way.
No difference with Staging 10.7.
For reference:
The game seems to fail to install EasyAntiCheat, indeed the setup file doesn't
exist. The demo, though, installs it correctly but the result is the same. I
copied the setup from the demo anyway to rule it out (and it installs EAC). No
change.

When playing the game (workaround from #57010 have to be applied to reach that
point), the whisper functionality used to send private message to another
player doesn't work.
When you just log in it is working for a short moment of time, but too
sensitive so messages are sent truncated (missing last letter), then after a
few seconds it no longer works. You can sill open the chat window, and type you
message, but it is not longer sent when you hit enter.
This is not a regression, it was like since the beginning. Reporting it only
now cause i would have liked #57010 to be fixed first for simplicity.

I have found a risk that an illegal pointer may be dereferenced.
At line 119 in file `dlls/win32u/ntgdi_private.h`, the function `pop_dc_driver`
may return NULL.
At line 750 in file `dlls/win32u/path.c`, the return value of `pop_dc_driver`,
which may be NULL, is used as a real argument of call for `pDeleteDC`
(`pathdrv_DeleteDC`).
Then, as shown by step 3 and 4 in the attached image, a illegal address may be
returned by function `get_path_physdev`, because `dev` is NULL value (0) and
`offsetof(type, field)` is subtracted from it.
Finally, as shown by step 5, the illegal pointer may be dereferenced, which may
cause unexpected application behavior or crashes.

Chrome security warning
Using any of the lists on the left side of the Bugzilla page (Task lists /
Saved Searches / etc.) adds a HTTP redirect, which Chrome loudly (but rightly)
complains about.
Cloudflare apparently responds with a HTTP 302 (Found) but gives a new location
with HTTP instead of HTTPS.
http://bugs.winehq.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=NEW&bu…
Clicking "Continue" in Chrome attempts to connect with HTTP just to be
redirected again with a HTTP 307 (Temporary Redirect) back to HTTP, and on it
goes. It looks like the login cookie might be sent in cleartext.
Somehow, I do eventually end up connecting via HTTPS, but Wireshark confirms
that HTTP connections are being made, before being shut down by Chrome. My DNS
logs show that Chrome does ask for the HTTPS entry in the record so *maybe*
that's how it gets there... I really don't know.
I imagine other areas are affected, not just the lists.

We would like to split the AppDB and Bugzilla databases onto different hosts.
But right now this is impossible due to some queries doing a joins between
bugzilla and the appdb.
These will need to be re-written to do it in a different way.
The worst offender is testData.php ShowVersionsTestingTable method on line 685.
I'm sure there are other places as well.

Can we change the mime types for .log files to text/plain instead? I believe

Program compiled and ready to run using mingw
WINE is buffering serial ports which is in conflict with using overlapped
reads. Additionally, when using overlapped reads on a serial port, there is a
large memory leak. Every time we receive a block of data on the port, (say 800
bytes in our case,) wineserver allocates many pages on the heap and does not
free them afterwards. We are seeing as many as 21 pages lost to the heap every
time we read a small block of data.
My company is creating a Monitor & Control product that works through serial
ports, and we want it to be able to run on Linux netbooks (using USB to serial
port adapters.) This memory leak is the only thing holding us up. The memory
leak is too large for us to recommend to customers that our application can be
used on Linux platforms using WINE.
We are including an attachment for a small program that captures the leak. The
problem is a result of our call to readfile() in the do-while loop. It is using
the overlappedRead feature. Every time this Win32 function call is made, 84K
bytes disappears forever.

When I call in TC (Total Commander) Menu "Files / Compare By Content" and one
(or both) files have a size of 1 MB or greater (exactly 1.048.576 bytes or
anything greater) then TC shows an Error Message "Access denied on file XYZ"
(see attached screenshot) and the compare aborts.
But EXACTLY the same file(s) can be displayed (by F3 = Lister) and edited (by
F4 = Editor) WITHOUT any problems! So this file has NO general problems, but
only always with Menu "Files / Compare By Content".
More infos:
- this bug occurs identically with ALL tested 32-bit versions of TC = 11.55 +
11.51 + 10.51 + 10.50 + 9.51 + 8.52
- this bug does NOT occur with all tested 64-bit versions of TC = 11.51 +
10.52 (but in all 64-bit versions of TC it's GUI is displayed not correctly,
which makes using them confusing and uncomfortable, so 64-bit is no good
workaround)
- it did not help to create a new 32 bit wineprefix via "WINEARCH=win32

- this bug occurs with wine-10.0 and wine-9.0 (Ubuntu 9.0~repack-4build3),
both on Ubuntu 24.04 x86_64
- this bug only occurs with all files >= 1 MB on NTFS + FAT32 + FAT16 file

- this bug did NOT occur with wine-6.0.3 (on Ubuntu 22.04 x86_64 with exactly

Wine 10.10 console output
The setup program / installer for Betfair Poker shows the splash screen and
then just sits there. I have three versions downloaded at various times and
they all exhibit this behaviour.
Tested on Wine 10.0, 10.10 and 10.11, and Staging 10.10. Wine 9.0.1 does not
have this issue (though the installer doesn't respond to any kind of input).
A bisect points to:
commit e62265b1130bc49efb51569528d4382c57949c96
Author: Gabriel Ivăncescu <gabrielopcode(a)gmail.com>
Date: Mon Oct 14 19:24:06 2024 +0300
mshtml: Make sure disp_invoke is called before locking the document mode.
This commit cleanly reverts in current git (10.11) but it does not solve the
issue, suggesting there are other commits to hunt down. Checking out the
previous commit does resolve the issue.
I tried ie6 (suggested by another bug) and corefonts but they made no
difference.

Even when there is a blu-ray disc in the drive, `wine FindVUK.exe
showdrivedetails` prints the error "Cannot enumerate storage device - stop
getting drive details for this drive". It also writes a log file which contains
the more specific message "IOCTL_STORAGE_QUERY_PROPERTY 1 failed with error
code 0".
Some debugging revealed that there are two problems: First,
IOCTL_STORAGE_QUERY_PROPERTY(StorageDeviceProperty) is not implemented, and
second, IOCTL_DISK_GET_MEDIA_TYPES always returns FILE_DEVICE_CD_ROM as opposed
to FILE_DEVICE_DVD.

Summary: cmd.exe:batch times out in Wine

cmd.exe:batch started timing out in Wine on 2022-03-17:
batch.c:427: running TEST_CMDLINE.CMD test...
cmd.exe:batch:040c done (258) in 120s
Test failed: timed out
https://test.winehq.org/data/patterns.html#cmd.exe:batch
Unfortunately I was unable to find a change in Wine that would be the cause for
the timeout: in my tests cmd.exe:batch still times out when run from older Wine
versions.
* Based on the WineTest logs cmd.exe:batch was taking about 50 seconds up to
2022-03-16. But the next day that run time more than doubled to about 118 - 170
seconds, causing it to time out most of the time.
* Reverting the Wine source to the 2022-03-16 head, rebuilding from scratch and
recreating the wineprefix did not help: cmd.exe:batch still times out.
* No package upgrades were performed on that date. Plus this regression
happened simultaneously on multiple machines with different upgrade schedules.
* WINETEST_TIME=1 indicates that almost all of the time is spent running
TEST_BUILTINS.CMD:
batch.c:427:0.149 running TEST_BUILTINS.CMD test...
batch.c:136:158.289 Test succeeded
^^^ The first ok() call after WaitForSingleObject() is in the map_file() called
after run_test()
* Running the test manually it looked like the "--- for /R" "Plain directory
enumeration" part of test_builtins.cmd was enumerating all of the computer's
directories, starting with /bin, /boot, /etc, ... That would certainly take a
long time but that run crashed after about 1 minute so this may be unrelated.

The pattern seems to be that it fails when given an absolute path to a file

won't output anything.
The result seems to always be <path with last 5 characters cut off> + <last 9

Many SQL tables used by the AppDB do not have indexes for fields used in WHERE
queries, and in sorts.
Generating those index now will take hours, and will take the DB offline (which
will affect Bugzilla as well). So this task will need to be scheduled over a
weekend.

The current codebase is not compatible with PHP8. We are stuck on 7.4.
The main issue is how all the objects are setup. PHP8 requires you define a
constructor as __construct, but the AppDB is using the old method of naming the
constructor the same as the object itself. While you could just rename all
those to __construct, there are places in the objects where the code refers to
$this->className(), these would need to be changed to $this->__construct() or
parent::__construct if called from a child class
There are other PHP8 issues to be solved as well. Things like some built in
functions changing how the null type is handled.

WINEDEBUG logs
After updating my Arch linux install from wine 9.8-2 to wine 9.9-2 my 32bit
applications using multilib unixodbc stopped working.
I tried WINEDEBUG=+odbc but could get much relevant output.
Most interesting is probabaly this: trace:odbc:SQLAllocEnv Returning 309,
EnvironmentHandle 00000000
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="odbc32=b" or "odbc=b" didn't change anything as far as I can
tell.
If I downgrade the package it immediately starts connecting again.
The driver I use is the proprietary SQL Anywhere 17 odbc driver.
It works fine using unixodbc with both linux x86_64 and linux 32 bit
applications.
Is there any way I can provide more relevant information?
Attached is a trace of +odbc when it works, and when it doesn't.

Simple Winelib program to demonstate the bug (wine_test.cpp) + build/run script
(wine_test.sh) + my test results (output.txt)
When I compile a Winelib application using the `--std=c++20` wineg++ flag
instead of `--std=c++17`, I experience unexpected differences in behavior when
using `std::wstring`. And in both C++ modes the behavior is incorrect.
For example, when I call the `c_str()` method on `std::wstring` and pass the
returned wide C-string to `std::wcslen`, I get different results depending on
whether the Winelib application was compiled in C++20 mode vs C++17 mode. And
in both cases, the reported string length is incorrect.
Also, the distance between the `begin()` and `end()` iterators is different
between C++ modes, and so is the return value of the `length()` method. And all
of the results are incorrect in general.
I originally noticed these `std::wstring` problems here:
https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/pull/7624#issuecomment-2923573719
I've attached a simple Winelib program that demonstrates the bug to this bug
report.

never be tolerated in a FOSS centered environment. Java hasn't even existed on
the web for decades, and while I can't speak for myself, I can guarantee that
no modern age Java programmer will ever want to hear about that era.

Executing Wine msiexec /a leads to a selection of files copied than that of
Windows msiexec /a.
Effects noticed:
1) no extra CLI parameters given
-> Windows msiexec /a copied more files than Wine msiexec /a
-> There were some files copied by Windows msiexec /a that were not copied by
Wine msiexec /a and vice versa
2) CLI parameter given
-> Windows msiexec /a ignores the parameter for file copies, only effect seen
was a modification of the .msi it created
-> Wine msiexec /a performs changes the set of files it copies and creates a
modified .msi
3) CLI parameter given with nonsensical value
-> msiexec /a ignores the parameter for file copies, only effect seen was a
modification of the msiexec it created as mentioned under 2)
-> Wine msiexec /a copies no files, only creates a modified .msi
This behaviour was seen on, and tested with different versions of SolidWorks

To test the case, run msiexec on the SolidWorks installer under /swwi/data e.g.
like this:
msiexec /a "R:\SOLIDWORKS_2018_SP3.0\swwi\data\solidworks.msi"

Wine msiexec /a should create an administrative installation and maintain the
source folder structure, same as MS msiexec /a.
But it does not do the latter in cases where the DefaultDir in the MSI

Attached is a simple test case .msi, which copies one text file during install.
To test the case, store the StructTest.msi file, and on the Wine CLI, execute

Wine seems to change the current 8-bit codepage based on locales.
For ru_RU, it seems to be something like CP866 or Windows-1251.
I would expect it to be the same for ru_UA and something like CP1125/RUSCII for
uk_UA.
However, it seems to fallback to (something closer to) CP437 or Windows-1252,
resulting in garbage latin characters for cyrillic text.
ru_RU Example: Яндекс.Браузер — это безопасный и быстрый браузер с нейросетями.
uk_UA Example: ßíäåêñ.Áðàóçåð — ýòî áåçîïàñíûé è áûñòðûé áðàóçåð ñ íåéðîñåòÿìè.

--- Comment #20 from Stian Low <wineryyyyy(a)gmail.com> ---
I confirm Hunk FAILED errors occurred when applying the original diff patch.
I recreated the original patch 1 to 1 and confirmed it was valid and resolved
all reported issues.
I ran `git diff > git.patch` to produce the new patch.
I ran `git apply git.patch` without any of the previous Hunk FAILED errors.
This is among the oldest highest priority bugs in Bugzilla and seems ready to
be resolved.

Screenshot of game with broken colors
When running Discworld Noir with an unmodified wine-10.0, the game works, but
the colors are messed up and the "resolution" is broken. (See the attached
images)
It is possible to run the game with xephyr (Xephyr -br -ac -noreset -screen
960x600x16 :4) in a lower color mode, which fixes the issues. It seems 32-bit
color causes issues with the game.
Sadly, xepyhr is not available on all platforms.
I am not sure if this is even fixable by wine itself, so feel free to close
this issue if it is not applicable.

Chantelise a Tale of Two Sisters console log
Recettear an Item Shop's Tale and Chantelise a Tale of Two Sisters (both games
are from the same developer and use the same engine) uses dmime to control it's
BGM playback, however most of the functions it uses are stubs. The BGM does
play, but the game is unable to control when it's playing.
The result is that every loaded BGM track is playing over top of each other and
all other audio. (SFX / voice / etc.) progressively getting worse with each
loaded BGM track as the game is played. Making the experience unbearable
without muting the game's audio.
Console logs attached.
