Apparently, add_drive() in device.c recognizes them as RAM disks (as Mac OS
mounts the drive like a hard drive/USB flash with no partition table), not a
floppy drive, and I am restricted to drive letters D-Z in Wine. Creating the
registry entry for the device at drive A: or B: is ignored, when the diskette
is inserted the drive just gets mounted as E: or so forth. Even if I manually
create the A: drive link in the /DosDevices directory, when I insert the
diskette it gets a new letter and mounts under both. If C-Z are all used, the
drive does not mount at all.
There is no reason why a USB flash device or USB floppy cannot be assigned to
drive letter A: or B:. Windows most certainly allows it! (even network drive
shares are allowed in the A:/B: slot) In fact, if I muck with the registry in
Windows (since the UI doesn't allow it), Windows will allow a hard drive to
occupy the A: or B: slot.
At a minimum, the restrictions in WINE preventing USB Floppies from being
assigned to A:/B: needs to be removed. I need the drive A: because I'm using
the USB floppy for a copy-protection scheme which uses a floppy diskette key to
validate the serial number before allowing an install (the routine also has
logic to block virtual drives and network shares from being used, which is why
a manually created A:/B: will not do).

It's the terminal output when I execute the command wine Acrobat.exe from
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Adobe/Acrobat 10.0/Acrobat/
When I start Adobe Acrobat X, a message pops out telling me that "The program
Acrobat.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close." I press
"Close" button. Then, before I open any file, it simply hangs, the window gets
unresponsive and turns gray, and have no option than to kill the process.

On at least two games (Thief 2 and Jedi Knight Dark Forces II, I've not tried
others of this vintage yet) unless the key Wine/Direct3D/RenderTargetLockMode
is set to disable the game display is completely unplayable.
Of course, disabling this key has undesirable side effects: in JKDF2 the HUD is
overlaid by the game display, in Thief2 the in game menu is unusable -- but
this must be a strong clue as to what is going wrong here.
I've tried setting this key to default, readtex, texdraw, textex, and in all of
these cases the effect is a sort of upside-down shimmering stripes. This
visual effect may be a side effect of what's really going on, because any
attempt at a screen shot capture either a good image or an upside down image.
I think what is actually happening is that the image is constantly alternating
between upsidedown and rightside up!

Intall an application (for example Proteus suite), sometimes we get mime files
in ~/.local/share directory with extensions on upper case mode. So Nautilus
become case sensitive for this extension and applications (Proteus) are not
associates with the application when a file have a lower case. MS Windows is
often case insensitive, not Linux.

Console output
Running Sengoku with the quartz.dll that comes with wine, the game crashes
after a few minutes of gameplay. Actually, it just freezes completely (no mouse
movement, no animation ingame etc.) so wine has to be killed. It doesn't seem
to be related to any ingame action, but it crashes reliably within the first 10
minutes after gamestart.
Installing quartz+ffdshow with winetricks fixes the problem.
Don't know if its related, but with the wine-quartz the ingame music doesn't
work, but with the steps mentioned above music plays fine.

I have Mortal Kombat Trilogy, patched to version 1.1. The game crashes on
startup. When I run $ wine MKTRILW.EXE
The wine outputs:

Description:
The games runs smooth 60+ fps otherwise. When this bug occurs the screen
stutters/hitches/freezes and sounds will repeat(usually a grenade being thrown
or exploding seem to be commond sounds that play when this happens). This can
last from 1 to 5 seconds. The Hud will often redraw. After this the game is
playable again but occurs frequently, every 2-3 rounds of play. This occurs on
all maps while playing online. It occurred on both 64bit and 32 bit builds of
linux.
There doesn't seem to be any meaningful output from the console.
This bug does not occur using windows operating system on my hardware. It only
occurs when using wine. I think it is related to this.

The Drives panel in winecfg has a Type: dropdown which allows Auto-detect,
Local Hard Disk, Network Share, Floppy Disk, or CD-ROM to be chosen for each
drive.
Each of these sets a registry value, except for Auto-detect and Local Hard Disk
which simply remove the registry value for the respective drive.
Local Hard Disk should set the registry value for the drive to "hd".

(http://rh-software.com/) no longer crashes when run under Wine, however none
of the PCI Bus reporting actually works. As an experiment I wrote some code to
read the PCI confutation data from "/sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:bb:dd.f/config"
where bb:dd:f are the Bus, Device and Function numbers (the Device and Function
are bits 7...3 and 2...0 of the slot number. The attached screen shot you can
see I was able to read the data what HalGetBusDataByOffset() should return. I
actually did this using the Windows API functions using the following code:

SIV would probably not be able to use the Unix/Linux pci library that solution
would be less portable than implementing a solution within
HalGetBusDataByOffset() within Wine. For systems where this data could not be
returned then the current return of 0 (PCI Bus does not exist) would be made.
Note that in the case of the Bus existing and the slot being empty a return of
2 is expected.

On a system with an Nvidia 400 series card for which lspci reports
"nVidia Corporation Device 06%0 (rev a3)"
the hair on one character appears and disappears depending
on the position and orientation of the viewer.
I only have one such system. The other systems are all running
a mix of nvidia 275 or 330, wine or windows, and none of them suffer from this.
Now, this game seems to be flaky, so I have no idea if this is a wine
bug, a game bug, or a driver bug. I'll try to investigate more.

I am using a virtual desktop (winecfg / Graphics / Emulate a virtual desktop),
running under the Openbox window manager (LXDE desktop environment) on Ubuntu
11.04. When clicking on Openbox's taskbar to bring the WINE desktop window to
the front, there is some possibility (it does not always happen) that a
mouse-down event is generated with a Y co-ordinate exactly 5 pixels up from the
bottom edge of the WINE desktop (that is, 5 pixels as long as the WINE desktop
is not too high for the X display; if it is then the Y co-ordinate will be more
than 5 pixels up from the bottom). The corresponding mouse-up event is not
generated, so any application that is maximized (and therefore receives the
mouse-down event near the bottom) can behave as though the mouse is being
dragged when it isn't, and if you then click (sending a second mouse-down event
before the first has had a mouse-up) then some applications can get very
confused indeed.
(The application I am trying to run is Wenlin 4, http://www.wenlin.com/. The
use of a virtual desktop is needed to work around a separate bug involving
Wenlin's rapidly opening-and-closing "conversion bar" window confusing Openbox
into dropping keystrokes, but that one's definitely an Openbox bug not a WINE
bug. I'm not so sure about this one though. I have NDA access to Wenlin's
source code so I can report the above by adding printf's to Wenlin's event
loop.)

So scenarion is:
KDM -> failsave session (clear session with xterm) -> "wine hl.exe -game
cstrike"
Game runs, everything work. When I do CTRL-ALT-F[1-6], then sound in buffer is
played over again (it's really annoyng) and game is stopped, until is restored
Xorg
(not sure, what effect it have on multiplayer, but I wasn't kicked from server,
so probably not much serious)
Solution:
I expect that wine application/games, should continue in run even when is used
VT.
This problem occured in all tested wine versions.

Starting the program without supplied GDIPLUS.DLL file
A user requested assistance with running this program in Wine-Users. Loaded
the trial version and attempted to use. Received error message in a dialog
box: "Can't Activate GLRC. Graphics will not display"
Clicking on the OK button brings up the trial start dialog box. Clicking on
Start on this dialog box brings up the main program screen which quickly
disappears. The program comes with it's own gdiplus.dll, but overriding it
does not clear the problem. Log files attached.

Quicken 2008 Deluxe often displays an announcement window at startup ("upgrade
now", "service alert", etc.). Its contents are always blank; in Wine
1.2.2-0ubuntu6 the window contents were black, in Wine 1.3.15-0ubuntu5 they are
white.
This is with no Library overrides, no winetricks, and the Quicken binary qw.exe
set to Windows Version "Windows 98" in winecfg
The workaround is to ignore the window and click its [Close] button, or
sometimes [More Info] will launch a web page.
I've attached terminal output.

When I change the size of a window the size changed is not notified to the
program by WM_ENTERSIZEMOVE and WM_EXITSIZEMOVE messages which means the window
does not get updated to reflect the size change.

Lego Universe game nearly works but not quite. Error appears when I click on
the desktop link but game will download (takes about 10 mins for 500MB) if
click on yes to debug (don't know why). Once downloaded I can't enter my
registration code in the box provided on screen but game tries to start if
click play now then stalls.

Corel Draw 11 log file
System : openSuse 11.4
Progam : Corel draw 11 suite
Symptom : Program installs fine. Programs seems to load correctly, box pops up
to request if new image must be created or loaded and program then disappears.
Cannot be viewed or used at all. Have tried in a virtual desktop also but still
same symptoms. When loading via console to debug file we get attached error log
file 2 functions are specified not to be implemented, unsure if it is related
to the program disappearing, but hope it can help.

Using wine-1.1.37-230-g3ed5df1 and a clean prefix
I tried to launch the game directly from its directory, but it does not change
anything: i issue the command to load the game and almost instantly closes.
I did not use winetricks.
It seemed to me that installation went correctly, but i will attach the setup

I think this is one of the first valgrind warnings
I ever ran into in wine, and it's still here.
Nowadays Wine gives better warnings, so it's a little
easier to see where these are coming from.

The mouse works correctly in all menus. On entering the 3D cockpit view, it
works correctly for a few seconds; long enough to take-off. In flight, the
control becomes less and less responsive. The plane noses down and crashes.
Using a joystick instead of the mouse works correctly but I prefer mouse
control because it's smoother and there's no convenient place to put the
joystick with my small desk and chair. The mouse control works correctly under
WindowsXP.
The problem has been the same for a long time (several years.) and through a
steady migration from Fedora 3 to my current Fedora 11.

Hi, while in Princess maker 5 I can use LANG=ja_JP.utf8 to run the game with
japanese characters, in princess maker 4 doing the same gave no result, the

A PIF file is a shortcut to an MS-DOS program. Windows shortcuts to MS-DOS
programs get a .pif extension whereas Windows shortcuts to Windows programs get
a .lnk extension (or at least this was the case during the Windows 95 era: I
have very rarely used Windows since then).
When I type "wine dosprog.exe", Wine forwards the program to Dosbox.
When I type "wine dosprog.pif", Wine does not forward any program to Dosbox. I
get error messages about "Wineconsole", so it seems that Wine finds the EXE
file that the PIF file refers to but that Wine tries to run the EXE file under
Wine instead of Dosbox.

PCAD2000: pated.exe makes an exception when I try to open an existing pattern
from the library for editing. Under any Windows all Ok. Creates a new pattern -

I am using OpenSuse 11.4.
I installed pkr.com and if I want to change screen size, then screen after
changing is out of window size. Check attached file.
I tried New version 1.3.28, and this stable version (1.3.12) and
problem was same.
Please try to find this BUG if it is possible, but I believe you :)

When you create a part, SolidWorks attempts to create a bitmap GL context to do
offscreen rendering. The call to SetPixelFormat() on the bitmap DC fails,
however, because the depth of the pixmap (32) doesn't match the depth of the
visual that winex11 chose (24). (You can add a trace to
create_bitmap_glxpixmap() to see this for yourself.) SolidWorks, however, does
not check the result of SetPixelFormat(), expecting it to succeed, so it goes
ahead and tries to create a GL context. This fails because no pixel format is
set in the DC. As a result, no rendering of parts is done.
I've attached a log showing what happens. There's a second issue that is
demonstrated by that log, so I'm going to file another bug shortly.
I think this is somehow related to Roderick Colenbrander's Xrender patches,
given that we're dealing with a 32-bit pixmap (which wasn't possible until
Xrender support was added).

Like I said in bug 20807, there's a second issue with SolidWorks' rendering. If
you get past the issue in bug 20807, you see only a black screen when it tries
to render parts. I will once again attach the log from bug 20807.
>From reading the log, it seems like SolidWorks is looking for a particular
pixel format. First it tries the pixel format it got back trying to create a
bitmap context earlier. Then it enumerates every pixel format supported by the
driver. Failing that, it tries to create a bitmap context anyway, but fails
because once again no pixel format is set in the DC.

I have used Wine to compile and run fairly large programs (more than 75 source
files and 2GB, 5GB of source code). Background is available in my post at Wine
User's forum under title Cannot install Visual C++ version 6.0 (VC6). My last
reply in the thread is this:

So far, I have tried four projects from Windows to Linux/Wine. All compiled
using VC6 on Wine and ran ok the first time. The two largest contained 78 and
105 cpp files with approximate source file sizes 2GB and 5GB.
Features used:
GUI: most standard and extended controls via dialog calls/macros
and CreateWindow, various window positioning/resizing functions,
messageboxes
GDI: most except paths
CHARS: most functions defined by <tchar.h>
FILES: fopen,fread, fwrite, ftell, fseek, fclose, _findfirst,
_findnext, _mkdir, remove, _tunlink
MEMORY new,delete and most memory and <string.h> functions.
Did not use MFC or ATL frameworks, just plain, Windows API functions
and as few of these as I could manage.
Did not use Windows file and directory functions.
Did not use c++ exception handling
Did not use Windows memory allocation function or older mallocs.
BUT
could not get the debugging to work.
1. on entry to the Windows main program:

Values of variables a and b were reported as unknown expressions.

I don't write bigger and more resource-demanding programs than those mentioned
above. The VC6 compiled these with ease, ran without a single glitch and the
IDE behaved as I was used to see it. With debugging working there is no reason
for me to be on Windows any more. Have wanted to leave for years.
VC6 is an excellent product (too good to be Microsoft) and it now seems it can
offer cross-development on Linux. Really worth pursuing in my view.

Backtrace of Delorme Topo USA 7.0 hang.
Delorme Topo USA 7.0 fails to start. I am able to install the program
successfully off a retail CD by running:
$ wine path/to/setup.exe
When I try to launch the application, I see the following:
- splash screen appears
- application loads through splash screen
- main application window appears with some menus rendered
- application hangs (appears to be a loop or deadlock)
I tried running Topo7.exe in the debugger:
$ WINEDEBUG=+warn+heap winedbg /home/jsoltren/.wine/drive_c/Program\
Files/DeLorme/Topo\ USA\ 7.0/Topo7.exe &> wine.error.log2
At the looping section, I did a break and backtrace. It seems to get stuck

In-game screenshot depicting the problem
The game RollorCoaster Tycoon (with the Loopy Landscapes add-on) shows a wrong
background colour (see attached image) in a menu, where all occurred events are
logged. The colour shouldn't be the green but the grey you see in the
background of the ride menu in the lower left corner.
Testsystem:

When opening a file.exe using Wine Microsoft Windows compatibility layer
I get the following message:"The program pxplay encountered an error and must

created using The PHOTODEX PROSHOW PRODUCER. They do run properly under Windows
but not under Linux Ubuntu version 11.04.Natty.
It may happen that they start to play with soundtrck and suddenly the sound
disapperas.It also happens when i give the imput for play ,I see thre program
loading and launching up to the first screenshot and the computer freezes so I
have to restart the system.
I'd greatly appreciate any help in order to this problem
P.S.
I've also tried to install different versions of the Photodex Program on my
linux system trough "PlayOnLinux 4.0.12. but it doesn't work.

Output following boot up of Word97 and click on Wordtalk configure icon.
Trying to run Wordtalk with Word 97 on an Asus Eeepc (Xandros) through Wine
1.0.
Both Word and Wordtalk appear to install satisfactorily and the Wordtalk
tooolbar appears in Word. However on clicking icons on the bar nothing works. I
have set oleaut.dll to native and installed riched20 and riched30 from
Winetricks. This seems to enable the Visual Basic Editor but still can't get
the macros in Wordtalk to run.
Wordtalk is an addin which is extremely imporatnt for dyslexic users. It
'echoes' text and reads the spellcheck list. I am very keen to get this running
for school pupils in our area so priority is quite high! Anny help most
welcome.
A log of console output is attached, following boot up of Word and click on the
'configure' icon on Wordtalk tooolbar (black spanner)
I've tried using Word 2003 instead - similar results. Would prefer to use
Word97 because the Asus Eeepc has limited hard disc space so a compact
installation is preferable.
Word 97 was installed with the 'typical' installation option and the 'full'
version of Wordtalk was used. The Wordtalkstartup utility is installed and
working correctly.

Granted, extensions (globs) and mimetypes do not have a 1-1 mapping. and things
like aliases, parents, and user/system databases only make this mapping harder.
Even if a perfect match is not possible, there is room to improve
winemenubuilder. Currently, when it tries to match a given extension with a
native mamitype, it concatenates user and system globs and... thats it. Picks
the 1st match it finds. No sorting. No removing duplicates.
That makes winemenubuilder really unpredictable. For instance, in my native
system i currently have this:
asc application/pgp-encrypted
asc application/pgp-keys
asc text/plain
ogg audio/ogg
ogg audio/x-flac+ogg
ogg audio/x-speex+ogg
ogg audio/x-vorbis+ogg
ogg video/x-theora+ogg
sub text/x-microdvd
sub text/x-mpsub
sub text/x-subviewer
So, if winemenubuilder finds HKCR\.ogg , which of the 5 will it pick? The 1st
one it finds... which is? Who knows! It doesnt look at ContentType value before
assuming the "one and only" mimetype for that ext is the one he picked from
fd.o mime database.
That makes impossible for a script to "pre-build" a
HKCU\Software\Wine\FileOpenAssociations\*ogg entry to inhibit winemenubuilder
from creating a redundant native association (x-wine-extension-ogg.desktop file
and others)
My suggestion, 2 different approaches to solve this:
1 - If [HKCR\.ext]ContentType=xxx is found, respect it. That means
generate_associations() should read ContentType *before* calling
freedesktop_mime_type_for_extension() , not *instead* of it.
2 - change build_native_mime_types() algorithm to *sort* the entries when
building mime_types list, either sort(user)+sort(system) or sort(user+system).
That way freedesktop_mime_type_for_extension()'s pick will be an easily
predictable one.

When running the demo of Money Manager [1] if you open "Tools -> Setup ->
Page"
The message: "The program winevdm.exe has encountered a serious problem and
needs to close" appears.
Debug output from running from the terminal is attached. To get the program to
quit it's necessary to run "wineserver -k".

errors log
After 1-2 minute of playing the pieces are displayed as in the screenshot.
I've attached a screenshot and a log of the 'errors' occurring.
The play before that weird displaying is good. The engine loads too.
My system is debian testing on x86-64. wine 1.1.37.
The icons on the menu are crappy too. They're crappy since the start of the
program.

I have a Win app which needs a license to run. The license needs to verify the
mac-id of the machine on which it is installed. So, when I start the app, I get
the message - "No ethernet adapater is found on this machine". I know that the
app is correctly installed since it almost opens up, but gives this message and
then ends. Is there a way in Wine to 'trick' the app and pass a desired value
of the mac-id, so that the app can then run? All that the app needs is a
mac-id.

in windows XP the only way to run EXCEL with "dark background +bright
characters/gridlines" (high contrast - reversed colors) is to switch the whole
XP session to "high constrast reversed colors"...
too hard to offer this switch under wine? :(

Input from the mouse does not seem to reach the application.
I tried running the application's setup program,
switching between mouse in "color mode", "black & white" mode
and "software mode".
The colorful surface that represents the mouse pointer shows on the top-left
part of the screen, but does not move in response to mouse movement.
I tried running with a native dinput.dll, but there was no difference.
Therefore I set WINEDEBUG=dinput, and saw nothing in the trace.
I don't know which WINEDEBUG values to try in this case.
I was not sure which component to pick from the list, and I went with
x11driver, but I have no idea if the issue is really there.

Comparing menu colours wine and XP
The menu bar background is not correct, using Luna or the free ubuntu light
theme.
Menu bar text is in grey, not black.
This makes menus unreadable.
Selected menu items have the wrong background colour.
I've attached a screenshot showing this using Luna and a freely available
theme, comparing it to the menubars on XP.

The game window is too far up and to the left, revealing the desktop. Note the
black rectangle actually has game content, it just didn't capture.
In many games (I believe all using Direct3D), switching to fullscreen mode
works inconsistently, and often produces what looks like the correct window
running but shifted up and to the left about 20% too far, leaving the original
Gnome 3 desktop below.
I am using Fedora 20, GNOME 3 with the gnome-shell, and running on the nouveau
driver with a nVidia NV86 chipset (fully supported by Nouveau, this coming from
a Dell Latitude D630).
The games are all roughly the same era (1998-2001). If there is a generic
"switch to fullscreen mode" Direct3D application I could try, let me know.
I have a screenshot of the issue. Note the screenshot shows the game window as
black but it actually has the correct game content within it.
Again, _sometimes_ it works completely fine. That is usually on a fresh boot.
Once the issue starts occurring, it usually keeps happening.
This happens whether I let the window manager manage/decorate windows or not.
Sometimes, when the window manager can manage Wine's windows, alt-tabbing away
and back again can fix the issue but usually not.

Patch implementing interval timeout capability
The hard-coded properties for GetCommProperties on a Com port are missing the
Capability PCF_INTTIMEOUTS.
It appears that this capability actually works from both browsing the source,
and from the fact that an application requiring it works.
This is required for both UPstart and Home Control Assistance
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=7903 which do
not acknowledge COM ports that are missing this capability.

Currently, the common dialogs like Open/Save use the Tango icon theme,
regardless of what the Linux desktop is configured to use. (They also seem to
use the plaintext icon for anything that isn't an EXE with its own embedded
one)
It'd probably require an ugly hack (and not necessarily be a good idea anyway)
to intercept ALL requests to read standard icons normally bundled with Windows.
However, using the system icon theme to populate toolbars and file lists in
common dialogs should be reasonably simple for someone already familiar with
the codebase and would help to reduce the alienness of Windows UIs on a Linux
desktop.
Of course, a checkbox or registry key to disable it would be necessary since
Wine doesn't automatically use the GTK+ color scheme and some icon themes are
unusable without toolbars using a light-on-dark colour scheme.
I doubt I'll have time to implement this myself (especially given that I have
no experience with the Wine codebase and almost none with C or C++) but I'll
leave myself a note to research retrieving system icons without GtkIconTheme or
QIcon once I'm finished my exam preparation.

Ugly hack to disable WM_NCPAINT messages.
Still present in wine-1.7.31-47-g516ed8e, tested with
$ sha1sum pdlxbetry.exe

Seems to be related to unexpected WM_NCPAINT messages. Using the attached hack
it redraws properly. Please note that the ugly sand-like background seems to be
intentional, its also visible on screenshots of this app on Windows.

A newly installed mIRC in a clean wineprefix is entering a closed loop after
dismissing the trial dialog on Mac OS X.
It doesn't matter where it was installed, I also tried dosdrive_c/mIRC, just to
make sure.
Excerpt from WINEDEBUG=warn+all,err+all,fixme-all,trace+relay wine mirc.exe is
attached.
I can upload the full log, if need be, or logs with other WINEDEBUG values
(though trace tends to be very verbose.)
This bug is only affecting OS X, mIRC is starting up and working fine (mostly)
with wine 1.7.0 on Linux. Don't try to reproduce it on Linux, please.
Wine has been built and installed via MacPorts.

OK ubuntu is not built with a batch renamer tool and one that is user friendly
does not exist. is there a possible way to implement the windows batch rename
feature

in windows all you do is highlight all the files you want to rename and right
click and rename them. like in the example I want to name the files "picture"
and then windows will rename them that with the numbering beside them.
I know how to launch Wine Explorer and i can browse files in it but I cant
batch rename them.

A simple PyQt program to make the issue easier to reproduce
I'm using fcitx. During text input with it, when a native application's GUI
hangs for a while (e.g being busy with something), text inputted meanwhile will
appear and get inserted after that. Users will only notice the delay but the
text is expected. But in Wine applications, in this case, text inserted will be
the last one repeated a certain times.
To demostrate, I've attached a simple PyQt program which has two items: one
text input entry and one button. When the button is clicked, the whole program
will just hang for five seconds. The procedure is as follows:
1. install python and coresponding PyQt. You can use the following two

2. wine path/to/drive_c/Python33/python.exe ./delayedinput.py
3. focus the input entry, active the IM
4. click the button
5. before the program becomes responsive again, type any two or three Chinese
characters, e.g. a space g space. These should input two different Chinese
characters with Wubi or Pinyin
6. wait the program to resume, you'll see two same Chinese characters are there
You can repeat the same procedure with native Python and PyQt on Windows and
Linux, and you'll get two different Chinese characters there correctly.
I use PyQt because I don't write Win32 applications, but they suffer this issue
two. In fact I found this with Tencent Messager.
This happens with Wubi or Pinyin, not with keyboard IMs or Anthy. The
differences are, Wubi and Pinyin use space to commit input, keyboard IMs commit
on every key press, Anthy uses enter to commit.

not been stubbed yet.
I installed Altap Salamander 3.04 x64 in LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 and did not apply
my registration keys to reproduce a normal testing environment.
LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 wine ~/Downloads/as304x64.exe
I ran it normally and encountered a crash; please see below for the basic
output.

Then I added WINEDEBUG=+relay to the command and produced a trace where AS' own
crash reported kicks in. I deleted it for the second trace.

I will send the traces separately. They are not immediately needed but they
might serve as a future reference as I think Altap Salamander only started
cleaning the environment recently. I have not been able (unlike Wylda!?) to run
Salamander for a very long time and I _really_ miss it.
For future debugging I am ready to participate on IRC. I also have a Git
version installed if a good soul creates a function stub :-)
Please note that the following output (which is short enough to fit in, I hope)
was created with salmon.exe already removed (otherwise there would be calls to
MiniDumpWriteDump).

The game loads to the menu screen, but crashes when you start the campaign.
Actually, the map is loaded and the crash occurs as you move the mouse pointer
a bit (this might sound odd).

Error Message Listing from Konsole
Virtual Sailor 7 fails to load options. When it is run, boats and scenery are

I attempted to run Hinterland, and it eventually resized the window it had
spawned to about 1280x1024, displayed the company logo, then abruptly
transitioned to a bright white screen. At the same time, horrible static
started blaring from my speakers.
Clicking anywhere in the window resulted in the Unhandled page fault on write
access to 0x00000000 noted in the summary.
I will shortly be attaching the console output and backtrace.

In Solidworks 2012, openGL 3D graphics windows is refreshed asynchronously from
keyboard events ( rotations, zooms from keyboard shortcuts ), model redraws,
and even initial window opening.
Mouse events are perfectly handled, no lags on mouse selection, rotation or
zoom.
In short : mouse action is needed to refresh screen.

Terminal output doesn't show anything related, I guess it's not the same as bug
#24754.
Later the game crashes with built-in d3dx9_36, this bug is about the missing
text in the menus.
As the game is loading to the main menu you can see several warnings in the
+d3dx log, such as

Patch from december 2008 solving the bug
Ubuntu 9.04
Wine 1.1.22
SeaClear II v1.0.0.196
USB-GPS: GlobalSat BU-353 USB (pl-2303-driver in linuxkernel)
Symptoms:
When running the above combo Wine consumes 100% of available CPU. If I start
without GPS everything is as is should (no obsessive cyclestealing)
The app works in both scenarios but obviously something is not quite right in
how Wine handles the USB-Serial-converter.
(This behavior is also verified in VectorLinux 6.0)
I found a patch for it:

The above patch solves my problem.
However, the latest version of Wine I managed to apply the patch to is 1.1.17.
Could a developer take a look at the patch and if possible integrate it into
the Wine-sourcetree.

Ok, I startded it with WINEDEBUG+relay -> WoW get started, but now I have some
performance issues with sound/graphic - they freezes every 5..15 seconds for
1..3 and more seconds. So it becomes unplayable.
Some logs on attachments.
Other games, like SW: Battlefront 2 run without any trouble.

Default logfile from demo version
The game (demo and retail likewise!) do freeze after I have started a game. It
doesn't depend on if I choose the only one mission in demo or try to sail
arround in free mode with the retail version. The game is saying "Loading: 0%"
in the screen and no more.
Additionally I have found out some strange things like missing menu entries in
selection boxes and the sea surface has a lot lines over it (looks like the
mesh lines to me). Attached is a default log file. I will add a relay log
shortly.

The setup32.exe of EG (Evangelisches Gesangbuch) fail before end of setup. The
reason is on unxpected result on DdeClientTransaction. The second reason is
probably programming error of this app.
The app works as fallow:
- DdeCreateStringHandleA with "Progman"
- then DdeClientTransaction with hszItem == Pragman and hszTopic == Pragman.
- after this it parses the data returned by previous command.
at this stage it will try to parse NULL pointer and fail. At this point i would
say, it is an app problem. But it works on windows and looks like it returns
NULL in really rare cases.
Currently i did some hacky patch wich return empty group data. It fixes crash
issue on the end of setup.

Hi All,
Wine 1.7.30 and Smart Suite.
Request for Enhancement:
Currently the first time you open a window (like Word Pro), the window has
horizontal length, but no vertical length, just the decoration bar.
The decoration says you are in Windowed mode. If you click on the Window mode
decoration, you get a full screen window. Click again and you just get the
decoration bar back.
This is really confusing as your thing you have click on the "roll up / roll
down" in the upper left of the decoration. The tip off that you did not, is
the arrow is pointing up. (That doesn't stop yo from clicking it anyway.)
The cure is to drag the line at the bottom of decoration downward, then you get
a windowed window back. That is unless the Role Up/Down arrow is now pointing
down from your clicking on it.
This is really confusing. Makes you think Wine is broken (again).
Would your please consider giving the first time a windows is open some size?
I have attached a picture of what the weird opening screen looks like.

The game 'Overgrowth' is currently still in alpha, but preorderers can download
the alphas already.
A Linux version is planned, but waiting for a library to be ported to Linux.
Meanwhile Linux users are encouraged to use Wine. All alphas I have tested
(from a78) up to and including the latest a83 release crash.
When you launch the a83 release you have to wait for a few seconds until a
window pops up called 'Phoenix', a Wine debugger window, and a warning dialogue
telling the application crashed. That's all.
A lockfile can be found in the data directory that Ovegrowth places in the data
directory at ~/Wolfire/Overgrowth/lockfile, but apparently there is an issue
with that, according to a fixme.
Previously I got errors telling me that configuration text files in a(nother)
data directory didn't exist, even though one of the two was there and creating
the other didn't help. That issue is gone now, but maybe some of the issues
with the data directory are reamining.
The command " env WINEPREFIX="/home/{username here}/.wine" wine

While trying to debug wine built with llvm/clang, I've found an annoying
behavior of winedbg : if it fails with an unhanled page fault, it spawn another
instance of winedbg, which will do the same, endlessly.
Wine should be able to detect such failure in winedbg and abort, crash, core
dump, whatever, but not spawn more and more instance of winedbg.

hello i resently installed wine and a game called requiem momento mori
everytime i try and play it the launcher for the game takes about 1-3 minutes
to load then when i start the game its normal but the backround animations are
very sketchy i login and sometimes it just crashes and exits the game other
times i make it to the character screen get to the loading screen it finishes
loading then tell me that "a severe error has occurred and must shutdown" i
used to have windows vista basic instaled and havnt had this problem. i have
ubuntu 10.04 now and now i cant play i hope that theres enough information here
to help solve the problem i dont know anything about fixing bugs but if you
need more info let me know

Closing a PCB view in Altium Designer 2009 causes an exception error popup
window:
Access violation at address 2028E466 in module 'wined3d.dll'. Read of address
00000014 at 2028E466.
Altium Designer continues to execute correctly after dismissing the error
window, but opening subsequent PCB views causes more errors, eventually
crashing the app with

A proprietary app I tried today calls alGetError() to see whether
alcOpenDriver() worked... which is dumb, but alGetError() returns AL_NO_ERROR
on Windows, so it got away with it. Linux's alGetError() returns an error
in that situation.

Crash when it actually starts up
When I want to install an appliation, it shows the spash screen of the
installer, then crashes with the message:
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 19 (X_DeleteProperty)

Serial number of failed request: 979
Current serial number in output stream: 1030
I'm on 32 bit Linux (no 64 bit drivers!) on a 64-bit machine and do have a
Radeon video card (no nvidia module or anythign like that). Using the Ubuntu
wine-1.2 package.
The weird thing is that it usually (19 in 20 times) crashes with that exact
message, but 1 in 20 times it starts up the installer and crashes during the
installation process. I've created an attachment for the message that appears
when it crashes during installation.

I have installed DoubleCAD in WINE (with the terminal) .
After registration with an activation code for the free version,

WINE asked for "GECKO" .
I agreed an installed,
the program opens, with "X11" .
But nothing worked,
no menu, no help (F1-button) .

Currently the tools/testbot/var/staging directory of my test environment has
more than 10000 files which is way more than the number of current tests. There
are probably two issues:
* The janitor script purges all tests that are more than a week old. Yet a lot
of files are older than that. It's possible that the staging files should not
be there any more once a test has been run and thus by the time the Janitor
script purges it. However the Janitor script should probably still ensure that
the staging files get purged too.
* It seems that whenever WinePatchesWebSubmit.pl is run it creates a set of
staging files. However if the Engine is stopped those won't be processed
immediately and thus the next time WinePatchesWebSubmit.pl runs it will create
a new set of staging files, presumably for the same set of patches. It's likely
that this is also causes a leak, probably exacerbated by the Janitor script.
Fortunately the official WineTestBot is rarely offline though.

To mark a VM for maintenance one sets its status to 'maintenance'.
The problem is that when a VM runs a task its status is 'running' and once its
done the task script blindly sets its status to 'dirty' hence overwriting the
'maintenance' status.
Note that even setting the VM role to 'retired' does not work although the task
script does not explicitly change it. It seems like the whole VM's row gets
rewritten when the the task script saves the new status.
So the task script should refresh its view of the VM status and check that it's
still 'running' before changing it. That still leaves open a small window for
races but that's probably acceptable.
The same problem exists in the RevrtVM.pl script with the 'reverting' and
'sleeping' states.

On a commitdiff page such as

I have tested with Firefox 3.6.15 and Safari 5.0.3 on Mac OS X 10.6, although I
have no reason to believe the browser or OS affect the issue.

a CD in the virtual drive for some of Wine's conformance tests. For instance:

This would be quite easy to do. Mostly, all that's needed is the appropriate CD
images and then configuring specific VMs to use them (one VM could even have
multiple CD drives).
I can set this up when configuring the VMs for the new Wine TestBot, however

generate them.

The issue is that WineTestBot restores running VM snapshots. So when these
start their clock is still set to whenever the snapshot was taken which can be
months ago. VMware had a special driver that took care of updating the VM clock
automatically when starting the snapshot but QEmu/KVM does not.
The VMs may synchronize with an Internet clock eventually depending on thet
particular Windows' default configuration and how often they do so.
This has an impact on some tests and causes failures. My understanding is that
in particular the certificate tests check that some online certificates have
expired. But obviously if the VM's clock is still running months behind it may
not consider the certificate to have expired yet.
These tests should arguably compare the system clock with the certificate
expiration date and realize that the certificate has not expired yet. However
that's not the point of the test.
The solution is to force the VM clock to resynchronize by running a special
command when we start the snapshot. These commands depend on the Windows
version :-(

Log of installing and running in terminal.
After freshly installing Wine 1.2.2 using 'sudo apt-get install wine' on Ubuntu
10.10, I ran the Windows program installer from a CD with 'wine start
setupAvaSoftUSB2.EXE'. The installer reported some problems, see attachment.
However, the program icon appeared on the desktop. When double-clicking it, the
program started to run, but then the window 'Program Error' appeared with the
suggestion to report this bug here. I rerun it in Terminal, the log is also
shown in the attachment. In both cases (in the end of installation and after
closing the launched program), Wine stopped doing anything after showing the
last line in log. In GUI, the following errors are shown when the program stops
working: 'Application Error: Exception EExternalException in module ntdll.dll
at 0002D908. External exception C0000025.' Then 'avaspec76usb2: Access
violation at address 7D7A5540*. Read of address 7D7A5540*.' four times. Then
'Runtime error 216 at 0299F6C4'
* This number is not reproducible, it changes each time. E.g. I've also got
7DB17540.

Errors when running the updater from command line.
How to reproduce this problem:
1. Download and install firefox 3.6.17 from mozilla.com
2. Go to battlefield.play4free.com
3. Log in
4. Press Play now
5. Install the requested plugin, and press restart.
6. The game (or actually the updater) starts, and shows you the EULA, but
crashes.
A little explanation on how this game works when launching. You go on the
website and installs a plugin, this plugin basically contains an exe file
called BP4FUpdater. When you press on the "Play Now" button online, this file
gets called with a bunch of parameters. This exe will check that the game is up
to date before launching it, and if this is the first time you run the game, it
will download the game.
If you want to try and launch the updater directly you can go into:
C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ceaeu01e.default\extensions\battlefieldplay4free(a)ea.com\plugins
and run BP4FUpdater.exe -sessionId "<YourSessionKey>" -serverDeltaTime "0"
-loggedIn "true" -showStaticAdImage "false" -lang "en" -ip "<YourIP>"
-soldierName "<YourSoldierName>" -hostname "battlefield.play4free.com"
The variables sessionId, ip and soldierName are you able to get from the
webpage you get to when you press Play Now, inspect the source, and search for
sessionId.
Attatched are the errors I get when running the updater directly from the
command line, with the correct parameters (as seen working on a vmware image).

The executable which crashes
Win 3.1 programme, which installs and runs under at least Win98SEII, has to
have directories created for its components whilst installing then gets as far
as drawing it's window frame on running before winevdm crashes. Wine had been
set to emulate Windows 3.1 for this executable after installation.
The installer does not add links to Wine's menu despite indicating that it has
done so.
The programme is a graphics editor that I always seem to go back to using
despite more modern competition. I like the way it works even if it can't cope
with long filenames!
Please advise if corrections or additions are needed to this submission. Thanks

Execution log without any WINEDEBUG
Gentoo Linux 32 bit - ATI fglrx 10.10
After successful install and intro execution, on start game unfortunately all
the world is rendered correctly but the any 3D model doesn't appear at all on
the screen.
Severity is MINOR because by forcing rendering engine in OpenGL, the game works
perfectly; anyway I suppose the game was built for D3D8.
Default log attached.
Into appdb I read about nVidia's graphic card successful problem less
rendering: maybe the issue is the ATI driver I do not know.
Please note that the game uses Pixel Shader: maybe something strange is
happening during ATI pixel shader activation.

lshw output for display controller
Trying to run Guild Wars on HP Mini 5102 netbook - getting 1 fps! Have run both
glgears and amoeba and they run fine so OpenGL is installed and running
properly. lshw does report that the display controller device hasn't been
"claimed" - not sure if this is a problem.

Installing Solid Edge ( V20 an ST2, into separated and clean wine prefixes )
using winetricks vcrun2005, vcrun2008, dotnet20 and msxml6. Installantion runs
smoothly (at least visually), but at start, the following erros messages
appears before Splash Screen disappears:
-Hangs at Splash Screen with terminal message:

wow crash of several runs
World of warcraft crashes at the end of startup - that is, one minute into the

At least on current Debian unstable with gcc 4.7.0 and at least with the Debian
1.4 package (which includes -g in CFLAGS) kernel32.dll.so cannot be relocated
with prelink older than the latest release (20111012):
prelink: kernel32.dll.so: Unknown DWARF DW_AT_8465 with block DW_FORM

It may be not clear from the message but prelink actually exits without
changing the binary so kernel32.dll.so is not relocated which causes all bugs
that was fixed by adding the relocation.
Support for "DW_AT_8465" which is DW_AT_GNU_call_site_value was added to
prelink in r188 on 2011-04-01 so at least in some cases if you build wine with
debug, you are required to use prelink >= 20111012, otherwise you deserve the
same configure warning that is issued when prelink is not installed.
Unfortunately I don'see an easy way to check the prelink binary version as they
all report "prelink 1.0" in -V.
When wine is built with gcc 4.6.3 prelink fails on DW_OP_242
(DW_OP_GNU_implicit_pointer) instead which was added in the upstream r187 on
2010-11-23 (so 20111012 is still required). When wine is built with gcc 4.5.3
prelink 20090925 doesn't fail. This may be the real cause of "Steam overlay
requires gcc 4.5" reports such as #22053.

That wording leads users to believe that the PPA is under the control of WineHQ
when it is not. As a result, bugs don't get reported promptly to the package
maintainer and users expect support on the forum for any problem they may have
installing Wine packages. When told otherwise, many choose to argue, pointing
to the wording on that page. I can't really blame them.

Don't know if this is a wine bug, an ubuntu bug, or a kernel bug yet.
kernel32/thread.ok fails reliably for me on ubuntu 11.10
(which uses linux-3.0.0, fwiw). Logs are slightly clearer when
run on a single core, but it still fails. Log:

The errors vary, but there's always a bad file descriptor, and often
a crash. Sometimes starting a wineserver in the foreground fails

crash near the start of the thread that runs a queued work item?

Wine error when joining game
To reproduce this bug you need to do the following.
1. Copy a already downloaded and working copy of battlefield play4free from a
windows install. ( It resides under "C:/Program Files (86)/EA Games/Battlefield
Play4Free" by default)
2. Copy this to your Linux installation.
3. Install vcrun2008 from winetricks.
4. Run BFP4f.exe with the following parameters: +webSiteHostName
"battlefield.play4free.com" +battleFundsHostName "battlefield.play4free.com"
+frontendUrl "http://battlefield.play4free.com/game" +survey 0 +sessionId
<yourSessionID> +webSiteHostName battlefield.play4free.com +lang en

5. Starting the game now works, and you are placed on the initial soldier
selection and equipment screen.
6. Press "Play Now" in the top right corner.
7. The game crashes after a while with the attached error.

In game characters are exploded and appear as almost plant like objects. Pretty
similiar to the issue in bully, though more sever. Also it seems like this
issue causes a slowdown in-game as well, since the speeds are a lot slower than
they should be.
