ReportedBy: 011001(a)web.de
The game crashes if you're using a joystick and your ship collides with an
object.
Setting the game not to use force feedback makes no difference to the bug but
setting the controls not to use a joystick at all makes it dissapear.
The fastest way to reproduce this i can think of is:
Go to http://www.ifhgame.ru/ and download the “Babylon 5: I’ve Found Her”
prequel campaign “Danger and Opportunity” Full Package for Windows.
Direct link: http://ifhgame.ru/download/ifh11_setup.exe
Install and start the game.
Start a new Campain, not the Training, and fly towards some nearby object till
you collide with it.
You might need to take a look at the control settings to do this.

Until 0.9.56, Wine allowed me to use an external USB soundcard as well as
built-in Intel HDA sound through ALSA. In Windows applications (e.g.
foobar2000) I could select the internal sound card as dimx:0 and the USB sound
card as dmix:1. Since 0.9.57, however, when the external USB sound card is
plugged in I get two dmix:0 entries, both select the internal sound. I see
these two entries both in foobar2000 and in winecfg under ALSA Driver/Wave Out
Devices. The external soundcard still is accessible through the OSS driver.
I'm using Wine 0.9.58 from the Wine repositories under Ubuntu 7.10. The
external soundcard is an M-Audio USB Transit (with madfu driver).

Summary: UFO: Extraterrestrials Gold - regression - crash at

dsound/directplay
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.25
Platform: x86

Severity: normal

Component: winmm&mci

CC: aeikum(a)codeweavers.com
Regression SHA1: 901af51ea32f2d192a598808abab2d1b6a940773
It was possible to workaround UFO:ET crash at startup by using native (i.e. MS
versions from DirectX runtime) versions of dsound and directmusic. After 1.3.25
it is no longer possible - game crashes at start no matter were the
dsound/directmusic overridden to native or not.
Regression testing comes with the following results:
901af51ea32f2d192a598808abab2d1b6a940773 is the first bad commit
commit 901af51ea32f2d192a598808abab2d1b6a940773

Date: Mon Jul 11 08:28:24 2011 -0500

Reverting that patch isn't possible with the 1.3.28 - a lot of other cleanup
work followed completing the "Rewrite of the audio support, using the Win7
architecture." task noted in the release notes for 1.3.25.
I suspect that the Right Way (tm) to fix this regression would be to fix bug
#25728 I had reported long ago. In any case, this is a regression in wine
obviously, as the app that was working pretty well before (with one workaround)
stopped to work with a new release.

Microsoft's .NET framework 2.0 (installed via winetricks dotnet20), but not
Mono 2.8 (installed under wine via winetricks mono28, 2.10.8.1 natively on OS X

Interestingly, the menu bar is actually available using MS .NET, it's just not

Summary: JavaScript custom-actions not running?
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.14
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: msi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ilan(a)cogniview.com
I have an MSI package that installs fine on Windows, but has a problem on Wine
1.2.2 and 1.3.14.
On a clean Ubuntu with Wine, it gives the error:
"A previous installation of Cogniview none was detected."
I have access to the people who develop this package, and we came to the
conclusion that it might be because some JavaScript custom actions are not
executed properly.
For example, the custom action "MakeInstalledName" definitely doesn't execute.
You can download the package that has the problem from:
http://download.cogniview.com/PDF2XL-Setup-Eval.msi
Note, that a *different* but similar package of the full product *works and
installs fine* (it has some custom actions that are different):
http://download.cogniview.com/PDF2XL-Setup-Full-4.10.msi
I tried running the package with full logs, something like:
msiexec /lv* log.txt /i ...
but the log output is very minimal and only gives me one line.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The bug occurs whenever one tries to rename any file whose name would only be
affected with regards to letter case.
On Windows renaming always works fine. With Wine, one will get this error:
"File "Z:\foobar.mp3" cannot be renamed to "Z:\FooBar.mp3".
File already exists"

This is just an attempt to implement it's basic functionality, it does not

do was using lsof).

You may try to get rid of gstreamer usage. It fixed problems with Steins;Gate
for me.
1. Compile wine-1.4 from sources without gstreamer support (./configure
--without-gstreamer) or install older wine-1.2 (gstreamer was not implemented
here)
2. Use native quartz, devenum.
3. Install ffdshow (enable mpeg1, mpeg2 in video decoder options)

Rather, I dislike that it defaults to being in .wine under my home directory.
I'd be OK with it being inside a hidden file, because it's a single file,
rather than a whole folder that some tools (grep -R, find, etc) would then
search through.
Also, if the filesystem is virtualized from inside of a single file, then the
user's desktop can be an actual folder and wine can track links to that between
it and the real ~/Desktop. In addition it solves a lot of issues with multiple
users in the linux system wanting to share a single prefix (could move the
prefix out of ~/.wine and into /home/.wine or /home/wine as well as allowing
one to have and manage multiple prefixes from within winecfg could become
easier)...

Thinking further about the virtualized filesystem idea, it should, in theory,
be possible to virtualize the filesystem without needing a fuse driver, if the
user were to setup a single file that were to hold the filesystem, sort of like
a VHD or an ISO. I like the ISO idea better, but perhaps something that's not
associated with a read-only media would be more appropriate.
That way it could be mounted with the loopback driver already in the kernel and
reads/writes would just take place to the mount point. It would make managing
things easier because the user could create an fstab-like file for wine to read
(or just do it in winecfg) to specify the mount point and path to the file
containing wine's filesystem -- That's the one thing I've always disliked about
wine was having the filesystem default to being under my home directory.

I like the virtualized filesystem idea, but its probably not practical for wine
itself to implement, moreso something for a separate project (winetricks?)
As for the link tracking, the same thing happens in Windows when one moves the
.lnk file from their personal start menu folder or desktop to the public one.
IMHO, it should just be considered expected behaviour for the links to be
manually removed from the user's desktop when an app is uninstalled. That or do
a forced check of the user's desktop for a .desktop file in the wine
uninstaller tool, though I think the manual removal idea is better, personally.
As far as your comment on GNOME and KDE dropping support for XDG standards,
that's just sad. They used to be the pinnacle of openness, and the decreasing
support for those standards just shows the winds of change are not always good.

1. When the .lnk file is on the invisible desktop, we add a .desktop file on
the visible desktop.
2. When the .lnk file is on the visible desktop, we add a custom thumbnail to
that .lnk file.
Point 1 already works. Point 2 is difficult, since each desktop environment has
its own way of adding custom thumbnails to files.
I wonder if the Portland project could add a desktop-independent tool for
adding custom thumbnails to arbitrary files?
Oh and Gnome 3 / KDE 4 have dropped support for so many XDG standards that I
have even less hope for this working properly everywhere nowdays.

I am able to use the official League launcher just fine without any hitches. At
least until I try to create/join any game. I am unable to start a game at all.
I am unsure as to why. All I know is that after the champions are locked in the
game does not run and later a message appears within the league client (not the
bug reporter) saying something about not being able to connect to the maestro
server and that the client must now exit.
Attached is my rads_lol_launcher.log

The flickering is shown in this video (someone's trying to run a game):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOlCxcNNcEQ
The bug happens when DDR is set to OpenGL and applications are in fullscreen
mode. Setting DDR to GDI or using a virtual desktop solves the problem.
However, not all the programs work fine with GDI, and the lower resolution
games are often too small on a virtual desktop.
My Mac model is MB325LL/A, http://support.apple.com/kb/SP485 From what I've
read on forums, the issue isn't limited to the ATI cards.

Still a bug in 1.5.2, nVidia proprietary drivers.
Tried with wine 1.2.3 with no other change to my computer or game settings and
the the bug is gone.
Will try to revert some of those commits mentioned here.

works. Running the client fails quickly, though:

can't get it to happen anymore. I've removed the HUD modification and no longer
set hl2.exe to Win98. It would happen several times within in an hour for me
before, now I've played several hours over a few sessions and it never happens.

The AppDB should remove maintainers that don't do anything (by design), but it
isn't. Admins are removing idle maintainers manually, and there are a lot of
them!
This solution itself isn't ideal, as they just reapply, there is no way to
block this, and many users don't take the hint.

The patches related to bug 7929 fixes this problem. I'm assuming this as a
duplicate since the same patches fixes both bugs. Although this bug is older
the discussion there is far more advanced.
The issue is as Erich stated: specific interface bind and waiting for
broadcasts.

Summary:
Mouselook only goes 180 degrees, have to unclick & reclick to continue spinning
Steps to repro:
1. Install Everquest Titanium via Wine 1.5.1
2. Load game
3. Hold right mouse button to look around, spin in full circle
Expected:
I should be able to spin my mouse 360 repeatedly

I can only spin on a 180 arc, on each side once the camera has moved 180, the
camera stops moving further in that direction
Regression:
Occurs on 10.7.3 , Wineskin 2.5.4/Wine 1.5.1
Does not occur: Non-emulated install of EQ.

Reopen please. Bug still present in wine-1.5.2, affects Microsoft SQL Server
Management Studio 2005.
To reproduce:
Connect to a server
Select New database from context menu on "Databases"
In the appearing dialog box move the cursor over "View connection properties"
link/button. The hotspot is indeed in the lower-right corner of the cursor.
winetricks dotnet20 is needed to run the application. A running instance of SQL
Server is needed to reproduce this bug.

Yeah, me too :) I should probably update my old patches on my site and post
them against Wine 1.4.0, that way people can have a fix until the new patches
(hopefully) get in.

Maybe I'm misreading this, but it sounds like Bug #7929. If it's binding to a
specific IP and looking for broadcast packets on that socket then that won't
work unless you've patched Wine with one of my attempts to fix that issue.

Erich, can you give me a hint here?
This program opens 0.0.0.0:950, sets SO_BROADCAST and sends a message to
255.255.255.255:950 (it's own port). It does that so it can get the local
computer IP by receiving it's own message.
After receiving it's own broadcast it closes the socket (0.0.0.0:950) and opens
a new socket using the received address, let's suppose 192.168.0.1:950. It
again sets SO_BROADCAST in this new socket and sends a new broadcast, now to
192.168.0.255:950 expecting it to arrive to itself again. But this second
messages never arrives... It keeps sending this message in a regular interval
but as it does not receive it the program does not behave correctly.
The sockets are UDP.

MouseWarpOverride=force wine "Diablo II.exe"; # Didn't work, though I wonder if
I used this correctly?
>From the appdb:
by Jason Marty on Friday March 30th 2012, 23:49
Running wine 1.5 (and earlier), the mouse pointer jumps all over the place when
in-game. No problems exist when using the menus, but when attempting to move
the character the mouse cursor goes nuts. The pointing finger will literally
jump all over the screen with even minor movements of the mouse. *However, it
seems the "actual" location of the pointer moves correctly. Running an
up-to-date version of Arch Linux with the latest wine. It seems this might be
an issue with some other library/package, because even the version of Wine that
use to work fine for me with this game no longer works.
* -- Mike Mestnik, I noted that as the mouse does move fine clicks are passed
to the 'active' location.
by Mike Mestnik on Sunday April 15th 2012, 1:53
I get the same issue running 1.4 and I just upgraded to 1.5.2. However for me
mouse clicks are erratic, choosing the currently active location.

Using xrandr didn't help. However I did discover that including the menus the
in-game menu is also un-effected, thus only when the game board has focus is
there an issue. This presents an easy platform to test things as one can
activate/deactivate the bug with vary few other changes. *I'll see what else I
can glean.
* I discovered nothing.
I've just recompiled wine from **git and applied the 3 patches for Diablo III
and the changes from the wine/ppa and AFAICT these are working.
I'd be happy to test other patches.

Release 1.5.2.
by Mike Mestnik on Monday April 16th 2012, 19:08
I have some more information, remember reading I said the 'ghosted' positions
formed a rectangle? Well check this out:
Of the 4 locations x(1):y(1) to x(4):y(4)
x(1)=x
x(2)=x*2
x(3)=x
x(4)=x*2
y(1)=y
y(2)=y
y(3)=y*2
y(4)=y*2
When the mouse is in the upper left corner the 4 locations are vary close
together and when the mouse is near the center the 3 other ghost locations are
near the bottom and right of the screen. As indicated x(1):y(1) seams to track
the 'original'/intended mouse location vary well.

The test depends on local time settings, it's why there are different results.
The format of date strings looks the same. Marking as fixed.

I could trace the regression to between wine 1.3.32 and 1.3.33. It is also in
1.5.1 which I've tested first.
It makes the game menu completely unusable, because the menu entries aren't
displayed any more. The mouse cursor graphic is only a red square, now.
I've managed by blind clicking to run the single player game. There most
graphics weren't displayed correctly any more, too. E.g. the dust from the
tires was displayed as grey squares.

Summary: CSoundManager::Create fails on file names with >= 156
characters
Product: Wine

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sarastro.admin+wine(a)googlemail.com
Classification: Unclassified
Steps to reproduce:
- Download an application that loads sound files. I used the „PlaySound“
example from the DirectX Samples, available from the SDK at
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=21416 (together with the
source).
- Create a set of test files with increasing file name length. I used the
following command (where Sifa.wav is a dummy wave file):
for i in `seq 10 156`; do let j=$i-3-${#i}; name=`seq -s "_" $j | sed
's/[0-9]//g'`; cp Sifa.wav $i$name.wav; done
- Create a list of the files and their full name length (it is important to
use the full Wine path here):
find /home/jojo/.wine/dosdevices/z\:/Zusi3/SoundTest/ | awk '{ print length,
$0 }' | sort -n
- Launch the test program and try to open any of the test files.
Observation:
- Any test file whose complete name is less than 155 characters long can be
loaded and played without problem
- On any test file with a name greater than or equal to 156 characters an
error message "Could not create sound buffer." is displayed.
The relevant code from the sample is
if( FAILED( hr = g_pSoundManager->Create( &g_pSound, strFileName, 0, GUID_NULL
) ) ) { … (display error) }
where "strFileName" is defined as "static TCHAR strPath[MAX_PATH]" and
"g_pSoundManager" is defined as "CSoundManager*".

Looking through some of the existing bugs, I was thinking that MtGO might be
convinced to work with modern wine. I ran into this issue that does not seem
to have a bug already associated with it.
Steps to reproduce:
0. Install wine from Emulators:Wine repository on openSUSE Build Service for
openSUSE 11.2
1. Clean wine directory (if exists). Use (winetricks win2k) to switch to MS
Windows 2000 emulation.
2. Download and install
MtGO.[http://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Article.aspx?x=magic/magiconline/dow…
Download helper works fine. Installer makes a lot of noise in the logs, but
seems to work.
3. Install 'dotnet20' component through winetricks.
* This works around Bug 14067. You may or may not need this if you have a
more recent version of wine.

While playing Diablo 2 (Ubuntu Hardy + Compiz):
- Hold down mouse button to walk in a direction
- Hold down left-control to start running
- Release mouse button, and re-press
* The character should continue running toward the pointer, but instead returns
to walking until/unless left-control is re-pressed.
The game behaves as expected if the right-control key is used instead.
I suspect this regression is related to the now resolved bug #12343, but this
specific behaviour is still exhibited in 0.9.61.

Obviously text should always appear in the box. The app is Protel 99 SE.
It can be fixed by applying patch from "ExtTextOut with rotation and
MM_ANISOTROPIC inverted coordinates"
<http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2007-March/055559.html>
I was playing with CreateFontIndirectW() and indeed plf->lfClipPrecision has

Can anyone take a closer look at the patch above so it could make its way into
wine?

Some of the dialogs in CDBurnerXP display red Xs in place of descriptions of
the available options. Choosing an option still works though, if you know what
they are already...
To reproduce:
1. Install .NET with winetricks dotnet20
2. Install and start CDBurnerXP (I only tested the minimal installer with all
options unchecked)
3. Choose data disc mode
4. Click the "burn" button
5. Answer yes if asked "are you sure?"
Native gdiplus doesn't help here. Note that the bug can't be seen in Vista+

SynthEyes installs fine, then during the initial launch it requires
registration info. When the registration data is entered, it fails with the
typical "You need to start SynthEyes using 'Run as Administrator' to
authorize."
Using winecfg to set the simulated windows version to win98 doesn't help.
Their support site addresses the problem here: (Naturally it just has
instructions for Windows telling us to make sure the program is set to run as
administrator)
http://www.ssontech.com/support.htm
SynthEyes installer is 32bit, but the application will only launch in a 64bit
environment.
I am running a freshly-compiled wine-1.3.13, with separate 32bit and 64bit
build environments under x86-64 (RH-FC8).

When you try to load an image file however (browsing still works), then the
program window vanishes. It is still running, but not accessible. No suspicious

Hi,
this is my first bug report. Hopefully I get it right.
When starting Teamviewer 4.1.6597 in Wine 1.1.29 (Ubuntu 9.04 x86-64) I get the
attached rendering error. The text in the lower right is totally black. Usually
you should find some text there saying "Partner List".
Currently I'm using the xorg radeon driver (for my X1600) that normally works
flawlessly without any display corruption. I have no possibility to make a
cross check on other hardware so I guess it is a wine specific bug.
I have never used Wine before so I cannot tell if this may be a regression.
Maybe other users can help me sorting this out.
Best regards

Background:
Using Steam, I'm trying to start "Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition".
Before it can start for the first time, the program tries to install DirectX.
This is not successful so the game cannot be loaded.
Have tried installing the DirectX setup files manually and via winetricks but
with no luck.
Using wine package 1.1.29-3.fc11 @updates-testing
Error returned:
Trying to load PE image for unsupported architecture (AMD-64)
wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\temp\\DX1a3d.tmp\\infinst.exe": Bad EXE

Investigation details:
The problem seems to be related to wine choosing the correct binary to begin
with, then being unable to run a 64-bit binary which is also part of the
install (i.e. it uses wine32 all of the time, when some of the time it should
be using wine64).
Looking at the behaviour of wine, it correctly identifies that DXSETUP.exe is a
32-bit file and uses wine32 as expected. However, there is an executable file
that is supposed to run as part of the install:
infinst.exe: PE32+ executable for MS Windows (GUI) Mono/.Net assembly
This is a 64-bit file so wine32 chokes on it and the install fails.
Is this restricted to Fedora 11 or is it common to any wine environment where
wine32 and wine64 are present?
The infinst.exe application can be run successfully using wine64 infinst.exe
and simply returns:
fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation 0x7f98ba590000 0 0x7f98bcd4fd10 4
If wine32 infinst.exe is run, it returns:
Trying to load PE image for unsupported architecture (AMD-64)
Trying to load PE image for unsupported architecture (AMD-64)
wine: could not load L"H:\\Download\\Windows\\DX\\infinst.exe": Bad EXE format
for
Additional information:
The temporary folder (shown above) that is created when the files are extracted
disappear too quickly to be looked at in detail. I got a better look at
infinst.exe by extracting all the cab files with:
#!/bin/sh
for file in *.cab
do
cabextract "$file"

It requires .NET 2.0 or newer. I tried .NET 2.0 and 3.0 installed with
winetricks and both gave the exact same results. 2.0sp2 doesn't seem to install
at the moment and with mono 2.6 nLite would not even start.
The appdb had this program listed as platinum using wine version 1.1.24 and the
same version of nLite.
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14420&iTesting…
I am assuming this is a regression but have not personally confirmed it working
with 1.1.24.
I am using version 1.2 on gentoo linux.
The AppDB first lists someone having a problem with wine 1.1.26 but the first
report detailed enough to sound like the same problem is 1.1.30.
I am attaching the wine terminal output as well as a screenshot of the blank
page that should be full of options.

Summary: Epsitec games which need DirectX 3+ don't render

ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
Several games by Epsitec which feature their "Blupi" character don't render
properly in Wine 1.2rc5. The screen does not refresh/redraw, except for the
region where the mouse pointer is. If you move the pointer around, you can
gradually reveal the image. If the screen changes (e.g. when you click the
button to start a game), the previous contents remain until you move the
pointer to cause parts of the screen to be refreshed/redrawn.
The games which have this problem are Blupi at home, Speedy Blupi and Planet
Blupi. Demos of each can be downloaded from
http://www.ceebot.com/blupi/load-e.php
According to the readme files, the games work with DirectX 3 or later.
Strangely, this problem only occurs in full-screen mode. If you enable virtual
desktop mode with winecfg, the games mostly render correctly. (Tested with
Xubuntu 9.10, Nvidia driver 256.35.)

I agree that pure software shaders are not an option. However, one may be able
to pre-process shaders in software to eliminate unused portions and otherwise
simplify them. The question is how to do this on vertex shaders while still
maintaining the games ability to manipulate the vertex shader.
However, this seems less of an issue now that newer video cards can handle high
element count shaders, and the newer Mesa drivers are now about to implement
this capability. It seems newer video drivers also simplify shaders on their
own, giving a serious disadvantage to doing this in software.
We probably need to move on to the next blocking bug in this game.

I've been using Ubuntu Linux for a long time now and I have just about
transferred to it completely. I still have WinXP ase a dual boot in order to
run many other apps such as Adobe Suite and Microsoft Suite and some games. One
such game is Rumble Fighter. After downloading it from here ->
(http://www.download.com/Rumble-Fighter/3000-7423_4-10720212.html?tag=lst-0-1)
I then updated and installed the newest version of Wine (1.23). I ran it and it
all seemed to work perfectly; it updated fine, it installed fine, almost
flawless. Until I got to the login window. I entered my information (correctly)
and hit the login button, but it wouldn't log me in. So I ran it in the
terminal and recieved some fix me messages. The game works 100% in Windows and
it just about would work (I guess) from the looks of things. It's just the log
in button. I'll try to find an answer through something else, but Wine looks
more promising.
PS: System info

Intel Dual Core 2.2 (or 2.4) Ghz

In Mass Effect 3 thread someone suggested I install xorg-server 1.12 to see if
the behaviour he saw was just his machine. I can confirm it isn't.
With xorg-server 1.12 installed and so far tested with the following games;
Tomb raider - Underworld
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The mouse cursor seems locked in the middle of the screen and as you move the
mouse around the game camera will swing around wildly. To explain it; it's like
the mouse is stuck on an invisible crosshair and as you move it the cursor
flicks between the quadrants jerking the camera from one extreme to another.
It's not just sensitive it's downright unusable.
However in menu's the mouse works as expected. There's no console output to
suggest a problem and it very well could be an xorg problem. downgrading to
1.11.4 removed the problem for me.

Console output of Gates of Andaros
Installing Gates of Andaros is no problem. Running the launcher also works, but
launching the game won't. When you press the connect button the launcher
disappears and a dialogue containing three hexes(###) and an OK-button is
shown.
Pressing OK exits the game.
Please not that in the console output everything before and including the line
"fixme:font:ExtTextOutW flags ETO_NUMERICSLOCAL | ETO_NUMERICSLATIN | ETO_PDY
unimplemented" was generated while launching the program.

The reason given (above, by vitaliy) was that this doesn't reflect the native
behaviour. I think that it was originally suggested that it also caused slight
slow downs due to repeated polling. There have been various debates about
whether it is appropriate but I'd be pleased to see it included (especially as
someone who reported the problem with morrowind ~5 years ago). I didn't
entirely understand why the pragmatic approach wasn't followed in the first
place until an alternative fix was proposed, but maybe 5 years ago the slowdown
was a bigger deal than it is now.

xi2 support has been now in since about a year, no?
What is blocking the fix now?
This is a 5 year old regression affecting a huge number of applications, could
you guys share some news on this, at least explaining why it can't be fixed?

I would like to propose merging multiple game version into one, there is too
many of them and its hard to keep track (especially bugs that affects all
versions like 29142 or 17015 are usually only inserted in few of them).
Specifically:
I would like to versions "1.0", "1.01.012", "1.02", "1.03.021", "1.04", "1.05",
"1.15", "1.165" and "1.181" being merged into 1.x,
Also merge "1.03 - Entrenchment", "1.041 - Entrenchment" into "1.05 -
Entrenchment" it will be renamed to 1.x - Entrenchment.
Trinity version and Diplomacy should stay as is (maybe only rename to be
consisted with the other changes). This will reduce current 16 versions to just
5, making it simpler to manage howtos, find useful stuff in comments keep bug
list up to date etc...
I'll contact via AppDB all other maintainers so they can voice their opinions.

After some testing I noticed that "97.109.101.46" is in fact a part of the
hostname : "ame.". Further digging has shown that the application is using a
very nasty way to get the first ip address of the hostent struct by adding 0x28
to the returned pointer value.
The current way wine allocates the struct memory does not fit in this behaviour
so it causes the bug. That's why the target ip differs for different server
hostnames.
I'm working in a possible solution, I hope to give more news next week.

Blizzard Battle.net System Check program is used to create a "Beta Profile" on
Battle.net, i.e., to become eligible for consideration for entry into
Blizzard's new-game beta testing by filing a report of one's system
configuration.
When run under Wine, the current version of this program detects the OS version
as "Windows 2.5.1.2600 (Service Pack 3)". To the best of my awareness, this
version of Windows does not exist, and has never existed.
It seems to me that the program should either detect a version of Windows
within the valid range for the one as which Wine is set to run (which in my
case is "Windows XP"), or detect the OS under which Wine is being run (which in
my case is a variant of Linux), with possibly an added tag indicating the use
of Wine.
I can see how the latter could be undesirable in "fully transparent
compatibility" terms, at least as a default behavior. However, I see no reason
not to do the former.
Additionally, I would like for there to be an option to explicitly set the OS
version which Wine will report to checks such as this - including manually
setting it to a relatively arbitrary value, and/or pulling the OS version from
the host system in some way. I actually expected there to already be some
degree of customization available in this regard, but on poking around a bit, I
haven't been able to find it.
I apologize if this is intentional behavior; I have not been able to find any
discussion of the Windows version which Wine reports to applications.

I have downloaded the game and managed to get the error. There seems to be
nothing wrong in wine, the gethostbyname returns the correct ip address but the
game uses that other wrong ip. Maybe some sort of stack corruption or hook that
is not working. I'm still studying.

Ack, a correction to 5 above.
5. The game slows down, but the 3d stellar system part never shows, just a
black screen. Nevertheless, I can still quit the game. The mouse however,
blinks like mad and leaves a breadcrumb trail all over the screen. The same
with the menus or other windows. If I click on them and then close them they do
not disappear.

error log for Space Empires V
Sorry, for posting another bug report but managed to trim down things even
more. First, made a new, clean virtual wine install by setting WINEPREFIX.
1. Just to recall: Kubuntu Oneiric fully patched. Wine 1.4 fully patched to the
latest version in the wine ppa. GeForce 9300M GS graphic card with the nouveau
drivers (that is, not using nvidia proprietary drivers).
2. Space Empires V patched to 1.79. This time I registered the key upon
executing the program - my guess is that previously failed because I had
installed and then uninstalled, but cruft about the registration was left
hanging in the registry database. No significant errors on the log files.
3. Using amstream and quartz dll native overrides.
4. In the Data/Settings.txt set Allow Music to False.
5. Now I *can* start a new game, e.g. via Quick Start, but it starts slowing
down to a crawl, complains about missing files and finally halts completely.
6. The error log is attached. It is a looong list of
err:d3d_surface:surface_download_data Trying to read back converted surface
0x18dd20 with format WINED3DFMT_B8G8R8X8_UNORM.
with the occasional lines
err:xvidmode:ComputeGammaFromRamp inverted or flat gamma ramp (0->0),

ALSA lib pcm.c:7316:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred
