When I run windows applications with Wine, I'm only able to write in English.
When I try to write in other language (I tried Russian and Hebrew), input is
either ignored or I see blocks instead of letters, depending on application.
If I set LANG to ru_RU.UTF-8 or he_IL.UTF-8 before starting application, I'm
able to write in two languages (either English and Russian, or English and
Hebrew). There is no way to enable all three languages to work simultaneously.
I'm using Fedora 7 and Gnome desktop. I added both Russian and Hebrew keyboard
layouts in keyboard preferences and I'm able to write in all three languages in
Linux native applications.

Summary: Wine GetSystemMenu returns nil window handle at

Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.1
Platform: All

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: user32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: brent(a)mbari.org
Created an attachment (id=22098)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=22098)
Patch against Wine version 1.0.1 to fix this bug
GetSystemMenu() is always supposed to return a valid HMENU handle,
but the logic in Wine's version would return nil in some cases where
windows would return a valid HMENU. Specifically, when the relevant
windows dwStyle mask did not include WS_SYSMENU, wine would
return nil, but windows would still return a valid HMENU.
I've been trying to run this app in Wine for many years:
http://www.quadravox.com/AQ430.htm
The version I use is 2.0.6.9, but I strongly suspect the problem will
show up in their current versions as well.
You may download a 30-day trial version to verify the bug.
However, I think the logic bug in GetSystemMenu is pretty obvious.
After a few hours of poking
around with assembly code in the Wine debugger, it became clear that
the Quadravox app was getting a nil HMENU from GetSystemMenu even though
its bRevert parameter was false. Windows on-line docs state that
GetSystemMenu() should return a nil HMENU only when reverting
to the standard system menu. Real Windows apparently does not check
whether the current window's dwStyle bits are set appropriately, where
the wine version requires this. That's the easiest explanation
for the behavior I observed...
To replicate:
create a project in the Quadravox IDE
try to build it.
Aborts with invalid read from address 0x4 after GetSystemMenu()
returns the bogus nil handle.
The attached patch fixes the problem for me.
Others should confirm this...

Cadsoft's Eagle 3.55 schematic entry and PC board layout program crashes when
switching between schematic entry and board layout screens. Sometimes also
when maximizing those windows. Ideally the application should swap between the
two windows whenever the "switch views" icon is clicked. An early version of
Wine (0.9 era) failed to do that, but at least it didn't crash, and a work
around was to bring up the desired window from the task bar. Newer Wine
releases just crash the application no matter how the windows are swapped. The
reported error is:
The instruction at 0052283f referenced memory at 00000008
The memory could not be read from
Though there are newer versions of Eagle, 3.55 was very popular and somewhat
easier to use than later versions. The copy I have is a licensed version that
does larger circuit boards, though the problem seems to exist with the freeware
version too.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

First noticed in pegasus mail (winpm-32.exe), all of the characters in the
normal view window are printed on top of another, resulting in an unreadable
mess. This did not happen in 1.1.42, so it's a bug that's crept into 1.1.43.
The output I get is this:
fixme:font:GetCharacterPlacementW flags 0x00000012 ignored
fixme:font:GetCharacterPlacementW classes not implemented
And basically that just repeats itself for every character it tries to print.
Odds are this affects other programs too, but I've not been able to confirm
that.

But if there is no Wine program running in the background then we start a clean
server each time and these number are always the same. OPAS handles very badly
if there is a lot of temporary files from the same "namespace" already and
after killing the program five times (so that it cannot clean the files on
exit) it will refuse to start.
A workaround is to clean the C:\Windows\Temp or to keep a program running in
the background so that the pids are each time different. I'm also not sure if
the problem is in OPAS or in the Visual FoxPro runtime - the error 1410 that
appears is a MS defined error code (

currently, WINE stuffs all the programs into a single folder.
NSIS installer creates a shortcut to a UNIQUE (I think) uninstall.exe for each
program in its program group/folder in windows named simply "Uninstall" (it
does this automatically).
a program group is where the shortcuts are stored in windows. c:\program files\
is where the programs reside.
many other installers do this too. wine puts simply overwrites anything with
the same name. it has NO CONCEPT of program groups or a tree of program
groups. this needs to be changed.
I have about 20 of these utility programs I write for windows. so you can
expect about 20 Uninstall shortcuts, each in their own program group.
also,in WINE I don't remember seeing anything about an Add/Remove programs. I
could be wrong, but it was hard to find if it was there.
the bad thing about doing what WINE has done is it's like doing the same thing
with UNIX programs amd mushing all the directory contents toghether. all your
readme files get overwritten, INSTALL files get overwritten, configure files
get overwritten, you get the idea. you don't just dump the contents of the
installer into 1 directory. that's asking for trouble.
keep them separate.

Someone might want to test CounterStrike 1.6 to see if the problem is present
in other goldsrc games.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Half Life 1, Opposing Force and Blue Shift via Steam.
2. Start Half Life
3. Game crashes
Expected results:
-Game does not crash.
This is strange because up until now these games have been working flawlessly.

Bug #: 30156
Summary: LeagueOfLegends launcher crashes with nvidia 295.20
drivers
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.35
Platform: x86-64
URL: http://leagueoflegends.com/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: spindler.matej(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
I'm on arch x86-64 and running self compiled wine-1.4.
Before driver update launcher started without any problems. Downgrading driver
(packages nvidia, nvidia-utils and lib32-nvidia-utils) to 290.10 is still
working OK.
With new driver it crashes after clicking play button, with:
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x0000000c at address 0x7e6a1ea3
(thread 000c), starting debugger...
I'm attaching +relay, seh, tid log compressed as it is ~43Mb.
To reproduce:
I copied game files from windows install (used to work without problems).
Launcher needs native vcrun2005
Workaround bug26924
- go to : "GameDir"/RADS/system
- launch with:
wine "rads_user_kernel.exe" run lol_launcher $(ls
../projects/lol_launcher/releases/) LoLLauncher.exe
- wait for updates to finish and click PLAY.

(export WINEPREFIX=~/.winetmp && rm -rf $WINEPREFIX && export WINEDEBUG=winecfg
&& winecfg)
- Click Drives, click Autodetect..., click Apply, notice E: appears to be
mapped to /media/disk
- ls -l ~/.winetmp, notice there is no "e:" link
The lines below show up when I click Apply:

Regarding the last one, I looked at winecfg/drive.c, in apply_drive_changes,

understanding is that the DeviceIoControl is supposed to create those links, so
it seems it fails.

occured with "Euro Truck Simulator" and "Bus Driver Gold" at x86-64 and I know

We think that the problem is related to the new xorg-server 1.12.0 but we don't

I also have this crackeling and also the sound in WoW seems to play too fast.
When changing virtual Desktop the sound gets lost and only comes back when
changing the output device inside WoW. This usually helped bring the sound back
but this time it started crackling and playing the soundfiles too fast.
I'm running "wine Wow.exe -opengl" on Ubuntu 12.04 beta with Wine 1.4 with
"Windowed Fullscreen" set inside WoW and have not made any changes to the
default ubuntu wine install. WoW is run from a my Windows install on a ntfs

around Wine 1.1.40, STO worked fine, with mmdevapi set to disabled.
At 1.3.25, of course, it had to be enabled for sound... but since the forcing
over to mmdevapi for sound, sound has never worked in this game properly (at
least on CoreAudio).
up to the current 1.3.31, it still has the same problem. The sound stutters
and echoes itself over and over at each sound effect... for a long time, making
the sound next to useless.
I do not know of this affects more than just mmdevapi on CoreAudio... but sound
used to work fine before mmdevapi.

Nvidia's 270.xx.yy driver series fix the glMapBuffer alignment issues that
caused major

doublebuffered loading, which means that we fall back to the current

Summary: Age Of Empires III regression: Sound is muted once the

Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.35
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

(Affects versions from 1.1.35 and on)
Age Of Empires III's sound works great out of the game itself (read: playing).
All the sound effects, everything works. However, once the game starts, sound
goes completely mute and doesn't come back (ie: ending the game and going back
to the menu doesn't bring the sound back).
Regression testing made me believe that it was a dsound bug, so I found this
commit:
commit 317d95a9db5337c19a12a24a21502f4b44e8d8a9
Author: Maarten Lankhorst <m.b.lankhorst(a)gmail.com>
Date: Wed Dec 9 16:58:04 2009 +0100
dsound: Clean up DSPROPERTY_Description1.
As to 'why' it happens, I have no clue, but I may try to help debugging it. In
advance, let me warn you that I am quite busy nowadays and won't have any
'free' time for the next 3-4 weeks. After that, I'll be more available.
>From what I saw, no error messages were displayed, and I didn't see any output
difference between 1.1.35 and 1.1.40 (except for some unrelated language
stuff). Again, I can dig it up when I have more free-time...
I should also note that I tested this with all of Age Of Empires' extensions,
though I doubt any significant sound-subsystem changes were made to their
sources.

This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in wine. you
may want to check http://appdb.winehq.org for timps about running this
application.
If this problem is not present under windows and has not been reported yet,
you can report it at http://bugs.winehq.org.
Please note I am very new to Wine and have limited linux knowledge.

Enabling shadow maps in Far Cry produces some sort of visual distortions in

Wine 1.0-rc3 crashlog for Imperium Galactica 2, 20080602 @ 01:24am local
When going to either the Spying or Trading views in the Solarian Campaign for
Imperium Galactica 2, wine claims something is getting held at level 3 and that
a deadlock should be expected, then crashes and offers a "sorry" popup which
doesn't appear on screen since the game's graphics 'cover' it.
Hence it's unreadable. The deadlock etc is only shown in the konsole when
running ig2.exe through it.
The bug can be recreated by running the Solarian Campaign and switching between
Spying and Trading screens, or even by switching from the Starmap to either of
the two.
Another freak occurance along the same lines can be recreated by going to the
Spying screen from the Starmap and trying to give the spy (there's only one in
the beginning) a training mission before he's moved up front properly yet.
(i.e. the 'disc' with available spies is still turning.)
The Kra'hen campaign (which does not have the Spying OR Trading screens)
doesn't have an issue with Wine and is playable without any errors as far as I
can tell. (I sorta died a long way into the Campaign after the Solarian Fleet
decimated my own... time and again.. >_>)
I have yet to try the Shinari Campaign, but will see if the problem with the
Spying/Trading screens persist there. I do believe they have these screens,
with the Kra'hen being the only exception to the rule because of them being a
warloving race.

On multiple occasions, I have seen users open a terminal and attempt to run
their application by typing something like "wine itunes.exe"
Wine then looks in the current folder (where it isn't), then looks in its
system32 folder (where it also isn't), and then outputs this message:
wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\system32\\itunes.exe": Module not found
I suggest changing this error message to something clearer based on what the
typical error here, something like:
wine: could not load "itunes.exe": the specified program was not found in the
current directory
This message is more specific to the problem, and more importantly it tells the
user (even a clueless new terminal user) that they need to change the current
directory. So rather than saying "Wine's broken" and making a bad post on a
forum/bug tracker, they'll instead look up how to change a directory in the
terminal.

I'm using the cracked XP-compatible version by dopeman, since I don't have
-any- hope at all that the original Vista-only version could ever EVER work.
This version doesn't have an installer but instead provides you with a
pre-installed environment and asks you to install vcredist.msi and
XLiveRedist1.0.6027.msi manually.
XLive worked fine with msiexec /i, vcredist.msi doesn't (
err:msi:ITERATE_PublishAssembly Component not set for install, not publishing
assembly ) so I skipped it.
When starting, the game complains about numerous missing libs ( XINPUT1_3.dll ,
msvcr80.dll , msvcp80.dll ). I have used the xinput from one of the dll sites
out there and installed the msvc*80.dll with winetricks ( vcrun2005 and
vcrun2005sp1 ). So in theory, the msvc*80.dll should be provided in
windows/winsxs.
Trying to launch the game now fails miserably. To put it simply:
err:module:import_dll Library MSVCR80.dll (which is needed by
L"C:\\windows\\system32\\xlive.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library MSVCP80.dll (which is needed by
L"C:\\windows\\system32\\xlive.dll") not found
These are the dlls that have been installed by vcrun2005. Halo 2 fails to
recognize those. Manually putting these DLLs either in system32 or the game
folder fails of course.

The entire Season 1 (and probably 2) of Sam and Max titles from Telltale Games
suffers from odd graphics glitches. The games otherwise work fine, but the
animated characters are incorrectly drawn. Many are either completely or
partially invisible. Some, like the main protagonists Sam and Max, have some
segments of theirs stretched out and pointing into the distance.
This message may be of relevance, it gets flooded on the terminal launched
from:
fixme:d3d_draw:drawStridedFast >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502)
from glDrawElements @ drawprim.c / 269
The issue is discussed on the AppDB pages. Some appear to be having these games
running flawlessly, and I suspect this is an issue limited to nVidia cards and
drivers. I'm running the proprietary nVidia driver version 96.43.05 on a CentOS
5 distribution, with a GeForce4 Ti 4800 graphics card.
I've tried almost every wine version from 0.9.54 or so to 1.0rc3 and the
problem has been present throughout.
For testing this bug it may be interesting that the full Episode 104: Abe
Lincoln Must Die! is available for free at the Telltale Games website. Wine
should probably be set to "Windows Vista" to run it.

Hi,
most ingame texts are missing in this game. The only notable exception is
Change Profile (and profile name) in the main menu, possibly because it's done
differently, because other menu entries (in other place) are invisible. Other
than that, they are snsitive to the (invisible) mouse cursor.
The mouse cursor is missing everywhere except of the initial loading screen.
I guess these errors are probably caused by the same bug, see log. Please
ignore the gecko error, it did not work even before wine update broke gecko.

In Wine, sims3 lets me select off/low/med/high edge smoothing in settings,
but they all look the same.
In Vista (with a gt 220 and driver 197.45), those settings actually do
something; anything above 'off' subtly smooths out the jaggies.

Summary: Missing typedef keywords in ws2ipdef.h resulting in
multiply-defined symbols
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.42
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: winsock
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rmcdonald(a)bittorrent.com
I was building a program using Winelib and ran into multiply-defined symbols at
link time. I resolved them by modifying /usr/include/wine/windows/ws2ipdef.h
as follows:
136c136
< struct WS(ip_mreq)
---
> typedef struct WS(ip_mreq)
142c142
< struct WS(ip_mreq_source) {
---
> typedef struct WS(ip_mreq_source) {
148c148
< struct WS(ip_msfilter) {
---
> typedef struct WS(ip_msfilter) {
Here's the section of the file causing the problem:
/*
* Multicast group information
*/
struct WS(ip_mreq)
{
struct WS(in_addr) imr_multiaddr;
struct WS(in_addr) imr_interface;
} WS(IP_MREQ), *WS(PIP_MREQ);
struct WS(ip_mreq_source) {
struct WS(in_addr) imr_multiaddr;
struct WS(in_addr) imr_sourceaddr;
struct WS(in_addr) imr_interface;
} WS(IP_MREQ_SOURCE), *WS(PIP_MREQ_SOURCE);
struct WS(ip_msfilter) {
struct WS(in_addr) imsf_multiaddr;
struct WS(in_addr) imsf_interface;
ULONG imsf_fmode;
ULONG imsf_numsrc;
struct WS(in_addr) imsf_slist[1];
} WS(IP_MSFILTER), *WS(PIP_MSFILTER);
Without the typedef keywords, this code was defining a global variable from
every source file that included it.
I browsed the source code at
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=tree;f=include;h=1e4dce3adfe9c87b5…
and saw the head revision for this file and confirmed this part of the file is
the same as my copy.

New portal expanding, antialiasing enabled
Kubuntu 11.04 x86_64 running Wine 1.3.18 from wine ppa (plus winepulse
patches). Portal 2 was downloaded via Steam and then patched with the fixed
SKIDROW crack. Videocard is an Nvidia GeForce 580 running the proprietary
270.41.06 driver from natty restricted.
When creating a new portal, a completely black form of a portal is allocated on
the target surface. In the middle of this, the actual portal opening animation
starts, which will expand and and eventually fill the allocated black space.
This only happens with antialiasing enabled. With it disabled, there is a form
of warping effect which doesn't seem to work alongside antialiasing.
In the terminal, one line is constantly spammed;
err:d3d_surface:surface_blt_fbo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION
(0x502) from glBlitFramebuffer() @ surface.c / 3460
(Not attaching a log with thousands of those identical lines.)

I have the 4 cd version of the computer game blade runner. I could begin the
installation on with the first cd, but when prompted for the second cd, the
second cd would not mount (wine eject also did not work).
The game can still be installed with the following workaround:
Step 1: Copy the contents of each cd into separate folders on your computer.
Step 2: In each folder create the files ".windows-label" and ".windows-serial".
Step 3: In each ".windows-label" place the label of the cd, and in each
".windows-serial" place the serial. These can be found by placing the original
cd's into your computer, opening the "Drives" tab in "winecfg", highlighting
your cdrom drive and clicking on "Advanced". In my case they were as follows:
Label:BLADE_1 Serial:4B0CBE77
Label:BLADE_2 Serial:27F3C001
Label:BLADE_3 Serial:C8F1AFEF
Label:BLADE_4 Serial:E9261E6
Step 4: Create a new folder, lets call it "Install", open up the "Drives" tab
in "winecfg", and set this folder as a new drive. Click on "Advanced" and make
sure "CD-ROM" is checked, not "Autodetect".
Step 5: Copy the contents of the first cd into the "Install" folder, including
the ".windows-label" and ".windows-serial" files.
Step 6: Start the installation from the "Install" folder.
Step 7: When prompted for the second cd, move the contents of the first cd out
of the "Install" folder, and move the contents of the second cd in.
Step 8: Continue with the installation.
Step 9: Repeat with cd's 3 and 4.
Step 10: Enjoy the game :).

I am running Portable Apps Version 1.6 of Thunderbird Version 3.0.3 Initially
upon launch it seems to work fine. But after I use it to read several emails,
the display of part of the email and/or the display of the text in menus or
buttons of Thunderbird begin to disappear and not be rendered properly. This
seems to affect only certain subsections of Thunderbird at a time. For example
when reading an email that has been forwarded, replied to, or part of a mail
list thread, then only the previous replies, or the new added content of the
email is affected and does not show up. For menus perhaps only the submenus may
not show up, leaving just the major headers.. or perhaps the tool bar buttons
text will disappear.
It seems odd that not all the text in an email, or menus/buttons will disappear
but that is what is happening and it is hard to describe.

- if I run wine using the fglrx driver wow works correctly
- if I use the radeon driver the texture got messed up (the card get reported
as baseline nvidia)
- if I force wine to report the same model as the one reported when using the
fglrx wow works again.

Summary: Texture corruption in guild war with fglrx 9.8
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.28
Platform: PC
URL: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=versi
on&iId=9194
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tball(a)io.dk
I have some problems running Guildwar with fglrx 9.8 under Arch 64.
Actually the game installs/startup perfectly.
But get some odd texture corruptions. The corruption is noticable if you stand
in a long distance from the texture.
I attached a screenshot, where you see the distortion within the red markings,
and the same kind of texture (closer), without distortion in the green marking.
Actually the first time i load the game, there aren't any distortion. But when
I jump to another place within the game, the distortion starts to appear. It
seems like memory problems?
I got these setting in my user.reg file:
[Software\\Wine\\Direct3D]
"DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl"
"MaxFragmentUniforms"="1024"
"MaxVaryings"="52"
"MaxVertexUniforms"="1024"
"OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo"
"PixelShaderMode"="enabled"
"UseGLSL"="disabled"
"VertexShaderMode"="hardware"
"VideoMemorySize"="1024"
I have tried with/without UseGLSL enabled, and backbuffer instead of fbo.
pbuffer crash the game. Every settings gave the same corruptions.
I am willing to patch wine for getting this to work proberly.
Thx for your help.

Summary: Starcraft 2 - DirectX Mouse Capture broken (fullscreen
and windowed)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.15
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mizzao(a)gmail.com
When playing starcraft 2, mouse capture seems to be broken in both windowed and
fullscreen mode. Mouse capture is important in SC2 because moving the mouse to
the border scrolls the screen. This seems to stem from two separate problems.
Windowed mode: Since SC2 gives you more relative viewing area when running in
widescreen mode, I tried running in a widescreen window in my fullscreen
monitor. However, I can't get the mouse to stay inside the screen while
playing, either with the default mouse capture setting, or setting wine to
emulate a virtual desktop and using fullscreen mode in SC2.
Fullscreen mode: When using dual-head mode (Twinview on nvidia), and playing
SC2 at the native resolution of one of my monitors, the mouse doesn't stay on
that monitor. It still jumps over to the other monitor, whichever side it's
attached to. This is annoying, but not as bad as the first case, since the
mouse is captured on 3 sides.)
The mouse works fine when running in one monitor in fullscreen mode, which is
the only way to play at the moment.
To reproduce: run SC2 in windowed mode, or in fullscreen mode with emulate
virtual desktop, or fullscreen mode with multiple monitors. Might be problem
with the DirectInput emulation but I specified unknown since I'm not sure.

Output from running WoW's Launcher.exe
Wine has been running WoW fine for me for several months. After installing
WoW's Patch 4.2 yesterday, wine "hangs". Please see attachment. After
Launcher starts up, you click "Play" to start the game. The Launcher window
goes away and the last line in the log is where it sits. I have left it sit
for an hour (no exaggeration to make it sound "bad" :-) ), and it doesn't come
back to life.
I have already "regression tested". The attached log was generated with git
pulled last night (~8:30PM Eastern US, June 29, 2011). I am running this test
in a 100% fresh ~/.wine dir.
Is there anything else you need to know?

It was committed as wine-1.3.31-54-gd09ad48, so first in 1.3.32.
According to Henri:
<stringfellow> yeah, it was probably one of those patches
<stringfellow> iirc there are still a few bugs related to that though
<stringfellow> e.g. original StarCraft battle.net
<stringfellow> but they're probably more specific bugs
please file a new bug for Diablo (and anything else affected).

the game wouldn't detect the second disk (the window is blank so perhaps I
didn't change disk properly, but hard to know see bug 25905). After that
workaround, installs fine. Running, however, just gives me a gray screen and a

You can workaround the black screen by setting the wine registry key
Direct3D\OffscreenRenderingMode to backbuffer instead of fbo albeit things
appear upside down at the beginning.
Yes. Another bug should be entered so d3d guys can have a look.

backtrace of crash
I have rebuilt wine1.4-rc6 with patch 23934 applied (to get around the looping
update problem).
Stronghold Kingdoms now crashes after it has checked for updates.
I am running 64-bit Ubuntu 11.10, with the 1.4rc-6 version of wine from the PPA
with path 23934 applied.
Steps I took to install Stronghold Kingdoms
1) install playonlinux
2) install steam via playonlinux
3) into this wineprefix install .net 2 via playonlinux menu
4) run the installers provided by the steam version of stronghold kingdoms for
directx, vcredist and dotnetfx
5) launch steam
6) launch stronghold kingdoms

Hello, I tried to preform a fresh install of wine, and SWTOR, after getting it
installed and preforming the patch work around. I keep getting a few errors,

repairing and was wondering if anyone out there can shed some light on what's
going on; and what I did wrong to cause this problem.
attached is the backtrace results.
I would really love to get this game working.

This was fixed a while back by d09ad48328e9614b1f8a52157b5827eb23e2b0df.
Current iTunes does not show the bug (works fine in 1.2), so I used an older
version of quicktime. That installer shows the bug in 1.2, but works fine in
wine-1.4-205-g104e319.
Thanks Henri!

Summary: TREPCAD St3: no 'close' window control (regression)

CC: dmitry(a)codeweavers.com
TREPCAD3 St3 doesn't have a 'close' window control (the small x) any more.
Alt-F4 works. The control used to be there until recently.
The app can be used in two ways: as a plugin to MegaCAD and as a standalone
app. When used standalone, it doesn't have a menu bar (so, no 'File->Quit').
But it always has the 'x' to close (on real Windows and on Wine before the
regression).
I ran a regression test and the bad commit is:
commit e35e75b4bf5db54cd6cda0c95dc8c9e14c1fccfb
(winex11.drv: Do not allow WM actions for windows with WS_DISABLED style set)
Ping me which logs you need to investigate. Plain console log isn't that
useful, I suppose.

Summary: Security: use CAP_SYS_RAWIO during start up to map the
memory below mmap_min_addr instead of permanently
lowering it at install time
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.21
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: scott(a)open-vote.org
Background:
In order to work around the mmap_min_addr setting introduced a while back that
breaks Wine, many Wine packages now install conf files to /etc/sysctl.d/ that
disable mmap_min_addr entirely. This reduces security of the system, as any
kernel null pointer dereference bug can root the machine. One such bug was
found to be open for 8 years.
This launchpad bug gives hints at what we need to do to implement this within
Wine properly.
----
>From Launchpad:
I would like to see wine and dosemu using filesystem capabilties to temporarily
grant themselves CAP_SYS_RAWIO during start up to map the memory below
mmap_min_addr, instead of requiring that the entire running system have their
mmap_min_addr lowered.
Implementing this would involve two halves: setting up the filesystem
capabilities when the package installed (postinst most likely), and dropping
the capability once the program had allocated memory.
Here is a quick example of how to mark an executable with a capability:
http://www.friedhoff.org/posixfilecaps.html#Examples%20-%20Substitution%20o…
They use numeric values, but it may be more readable to use text version:
sudo setcap cap_sys_rawio=ep low-mmap
(setcap is in libcap2-bin)
Part 2 involves dropping the capability:
http://git.0pointer.de/?p=pulseaudio.git;a=blob;f=src/daemon/caps.c;hb=86de…
the pa_drop_caps and shows how to drop capabilities, and pa_have_caps shows how
to test for a specific capability. (In the example's case, CAP_SYS_NICE.)
(sorry, lost some context for my setcap paste: "low-mmap" is the program I was
setting capabilities on. "cap_sys_rawio" is the textual version of the
capabilities.)

Hi,
after upgrading to Nvidia 295.20 driver i noticed that Shogun 2 gets an
segmentation fault when you start the game. It starts loading the game but as
soon as the menu or video should get displayed the game segfaults.
The game loads without issues with older nvidia drivers.
Not sure if thats a driver bug itself or something which needs to be changed in
wine.
There are similiar issues with different games with this new driver:
See bug: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29931
For me also Rage does not work anymore with the new driver and i will file
another bug for that.

System specs: 32bit linux kernel 2.6.38.8-32.i686.PAE, AMD Phenom II x4 955,
nVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti with 1Gb VRAM, nVIDIA binary drivers v.295.17.
-----------------
How to reproduce:
-----------------
This bug is a pretty hard to catch as there's one requirement for it to show
itself up in this game: FPS should be sufficiently high and thus vsync should
be turned off. The game is buggy per itself as it always requests
WINED3DPRESENT_INTERVAL_DEFAULT when being run in window, and it behaves
somewhat unstable when run in fullscreen mode (window contents stuck without
redrawing after a while), so one would have to force-disable VSYNC which isn't
easily possible with current nVIDIA linux drivers and/or Wine. Personally I use
a simple patch which prevents Wine from calling EXT_swap_control and thus
allows me to control vsync using nVIDIA driver control panel. I would attach
this patch to this bug report in a few minutes.
There's another bug that affects FPS in this game heavily, which is major
slowdown in case wined3d utilizes ARB_map_buffer_rage. This usage had been
enabled by commit 68b15bc5f, so I have to revert that commit with another
simple patch (or by using "git show 68b15bc5f | git apply -R --").
Having vsync and ARB_map_buffer_rage usage disabled one may proceed with
starting up the game and heading towards some location where FPS isn't too low
(35+ will do, the more - the better). Easiest way to check current fps is to
use "+fps" debug channel.
As soon as game character is at the place where fps is 35+ - try to move the
character around by using "WASD" keys. You would notice that about half of
short presses (i.e. quickly tap "A" or "D" key, do not hold it pressed for a
prolonged time) are merely lost, and game reactions to actions like "press and
hold A key" might be delayed for as much as about a second (maybe slightly
less, I'm writing "about a second" basing on personal feel and human senses
aren't that exact).
Then, exit the game, revert commit cb3b7237, recompile Wine and start the game
up again. Proceed with the testing procedure described in the paragraph above
and you would notice that the lag had gone.
>From inspecting the commit cb3b7237 contents it looks like that input lag
should be somewhat expected with this patch in place, but is shouldn't be
larger than 50 ticks - which is not the case obviously, because 50 ticks are
not something that "feels like about a second". On the other hand, I'm not that
good in knowing all the inside chemistry of Wine's user32 implementation when
it comes to handling keyboard input so I might just be misinterpreting the
commit contents.
Another moment to note: when the bug is in place (i.e. running the game with
non-reverted commit cb3b7237 and at a place where FPS is 35+) there's and easy
way to "somewhat workaround" keyboard input lag. All you have to do is to press
and hold right mouse button - and there would be no more keyboard input lag.
Just in case you don't figure it out: click-n-holding RMB is used in game to
change to viewing angle, and the angle changes with the mouse movement while
you hold RMB.
P.S. There's another bug in wined3d blt implementation affecting this game,
about which I had posted another bug report #30115. Patch that fixes blt
implementation for this game had been attached to that bug report, but it is
not required/relevant for reproducing input lag bug. OTOH one may wish to use
that patch also so the in-game icons would be displayed properly making testing
easier.

Summary: Disprencies in results
Product: Wine
Version: 1.4
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: butraxz(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
The policy of bugzilla here states that issues later than 180 days with no
activity should be first noted and then closed as abandoned if no reply is
given.
If you query for bugs older than 180 days, this is true:
http://bugs.winehq.org/buglist.cgi?chfieldto=Now&query_format=advanced&chfi…
0 results.
However, if you take a date ranged query and examine individual issues, then
you notice that this rule does not work in practice.
In this example take all open issues from 2006:
http://bugs.winehq.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&type0-1-0=lessthan…
For example bug 5552 was updated, according entries, the last time more than a
year ago.
However, it was modified in 2011-11-23 when a component was changed by a wine
maintainer/developer.
The conclusion: The policy, that states that bugs should closed if there has
been no activity for 6 months, does not work in practice because changes in
components by maintainers are recorded as changes to bugs, whereas imho only
logger and solver changes should qualify for changes. Therefore a lot of old
bugs that should be marked as abandoned, but are just sticking in bugzilla
forever, because 6 moth query is hiding them from helping hands. Investigation
of the bug db shows a lot of cases like that.

I see the black hexagons on Nvidia on Wine. I suspect that the issue is
depthbias related. Getting the depthbias right in d3d is next to impossible.

in that case, I'd say it could also be a AMD driver bug. (they seem to have
problems with transparent things...look at current GnomeShell /w AMD's fglrx
driver)

Doom 3 hangs from time to time for about 10-20 seconds (cannot alt-tab out of
the game, cannot switch to another VT. SSH to the box works fine).
This started to happen since Wine 1.4-rc6. Previous versions worked fine (at
least for me - but I can't really tell if it's not because of the level I'm
in).
Absolutely nothing in console:
tommy@TommyPC:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Doom 3$ wine Doom3.exe
fixme:wbemprox:wbem_locator_ConnectServer 0x1312c8, L"\\\\.\\root\\CIMV2",

This happens both in fullscreen mode, wine-managed window mode, and windowed
mode. Tried to use different sound drivers, but no luck.
After ~20 seconds game again works fine and I can alt-tab out of it.
This happens ONLY when I play Doom, so it's not my PC's issue.

I used Wine version 1.1.29 to launch the freeware Stepmania DDR game,
and I noticed that when a KDE based alert appears, it would usually never
disappear like it normally does when the wine program is not in use. Instead,
the alert stays on forever, and the game locks up. The only way out is to force
a power down of the computer and to turn it back on. Sometimes, this results in
the data loss on the FAT32 partition the game is on.
Such KDE alerts are as follows:
-- a large bubble identifying the program the arrow is pointing at in the
taskbar
-- a bubble in kopete messenger indicating the message the sender is sending
-- a box from kopete indicating one's online status.
I have tried this using "windows vista" and then using "windows xp" in
"application settings" of the wine control panel.

I see the same with:
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce GTX 295/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 285.05.05
(though I don't get sound).
Native amstream cuts out the fixme's/the loop, but then the game hangs on
gstreamer related stuff.
In any case, the crash is fixed, the other issues are separate bugs.

Version of Wine: 1.4
Operating System: FreeBSD
Winetricks: Yes (Directplay is installer via winetricks)
Result: Could not connect to any server in Stalker: Shadow Of Chernobyl
This bug is very irritating... It's time to annihilate it, because several
games are not functioning properly because of this. It should be on the to-do
list in wine 1.5 milestone.

I believe this bug should be reopened.
I'm trying to install IE6 from winetricks with wine-1.4-rc6 on Ubuntu Precise
64 bit, using WINEARCH=win32 (installing on win64 doesn't even start).
Here's a snippet of the output I get:
Using native override for following DLLs: inseng
Executing winetricks_early_wine regedit C:\windows\Temp\_ie6\override-dll.reg
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0000003b at address 0x7bc4778c

If someone can compile the test code from duplicate bug 8159, I would be happy
to test it.

Bug #: 29245
Summary: WinUAE graphics trashed/corrupted, regression between
1.3.15 and 1.3.28?
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.34
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
Classification: Unclassified
Hi,
[I set the component of this bug to directx-d3d, but I'm not certain that's
correct.]
WinUAE is an open-source Amiga emulator. I tested WinUAE version 2.3.3 in Wine.
The test system was running Lubuntu 11.10 x86-64 with Nvidia graphics driver
version 285.
There has been a regression, probably some time between 1.3.15 and 1.3.28. (I
don't recall seeing this issue with Wine 1.3.15 in Xubuntu 9.10 32-bit.)
First test, using Wine 1.2.3. This works correctly:
- Download and run the WinUAE installer.
- Run winuae.exe
- Click OK at the dialog box about system ROMs.
- The WinUAE Properties window appears. Click Start.
- The emulation window opens. It shows shades of grey for several seconds,
then "No bootable media found..." text. There's a red mouse pointer which you
can move.
Second test, running Wine 1.3.28:
- First four steps as above.
- The emulation window opens. There is just graphical trash/garbage in it. The
window contents are static, and don't have any relation to the graphics which
should be there.
Testing with Wine 1.3.34 shows the same problem as 1.3.28.
There's little difference in console output testing with 1.3.28 vs 1.2.3. There
was this line in the 1.3.28 output:
fixme:d3d:swapchain_init Add OpenGL context recreation support to
context_validate_onscreen_formats
However I've seen similar lines with other programs before when there was no
corruption.

The game is not crashing for me in 1.4-rc6. Sound looks good (music). Possibly
a problem with intel driver because the game screen is black, but it never
crashes.
I agree there is an infinite loop of "pMediaSeeking->SetPositions(&fot_ini,
AM_SEEKING_AbsolutePositioning, &fot_fin, AM_SEEKING_AbsolutePositioning)".
Can anyone with nvidia/ati retest? The game is 189Mb.
