Summary: Project64 does not work with gamepads anymore
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.30
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ragnara-dba(a)gmx.de
Project64 1.6 with input plugin N-Rage's Direct-Input8 V2 1.83 does not
recognize any buttons pressed on a usb gamepad anymore with Wine 1.1.30 (and
crashed with 1.1.29) - it works just fine with 1.1.27.
The gamepad is an original gamecube gamepad connected over a usb adapter.
I'm using Archlinux with all recent updates and a default kernel. AppDB states
that Project64 was tested recently on a similiar system but only with other
input devices.

Summary: Houaiss Portuguese Dictionary (blocked window)
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mrx(a)riseup.net
Hello friends. I appologize for disturbing you, I hope I'm not doing anything
wrong by posting this thing here, but, I decided to try.
I've been using Debian for about a year, and I've got a bit of a problem with
an electronic dictionary which is very dear to me, since I work with texts...
It's the Houaiss Portuguese Dictionary, made for Windows.
All the other dictionaries I use run perfectly well in Wine, but this one has
got some kind of strange bug. Sometimes, when I open it, it appears as a
minimized window at the panel below. If you then click on it to maximize it,
instead of a full screen window what you get is only a very narrow strip of
window. If you click on its right-hand upper corner in order do maximize it,
nothing happens. All you can do is close it. Then, if you run the programm
again, the same thing will happen, no matter how many times you try. If you
uninstall the software and re-install it completely, usually the same thing
happens!
A friend of mine wrote a script for me which has helped, since with it I
usually can make it work again, but it's always a little bit annoying, since it
doesn't work immediately, and you have to run the scrip a thousand times before
the moody dictionary decides to work.
The scrip I've been using to fix the problem runs as follows:
#!/bin/sh
cp -a ~/.wine_working/* ~/.wine
echo "old good wine restored..."
I'm no expert al all, as you can see, so if you could help me (and probably
other portuguese speakers who use this dictionary) to definetely solve this
problem I'd really appreciate!
I thank you very much for your attention and help!
Zac

This might be a bug in "LineTo".
Any call to "LineTo" or "Rectangle" or "PolyLine" should force a refresh.
Currently a call to LineTo on its own does not update the screen in WINE but
does in Windows.

Hate to add more noise, but I fixed my own issue. Not sure if this will cause
issues again with crashing, but the HUD mod needs a fairly large section added
to make the scoreboard visible.
See: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1329454
Not sure how to make this consistent with the one already added as an
attachment here. Perhaps someone that knows what they're supposed to be looking
at can tell us. So far it seems to work fine with the additions from the link
above.

Unfortunately this bug seems to exist still, at least as of wine-1.4-rc2. It
basically makes the game unplayable for me because the crashing is so random
and frequent.
I tried the HUD modification as a possible work around but it causes the fonts
on the scoreboard (when you press tab in-game) to be invisible. Perhaps it
relies on a font I don't have? I did install the MS core fonts, so not sure
what's going on there.

I'm pretty sure this is not a pulseaudio issue as it's been occurring for
years, though I haven't reported it until now.
In Full Tilt Poker you can hear a few sounds - a slight ding when it's your
turn, the sound of cards being delt, and chips stacking. In Wine, however,
they stop completely after about 4 or 5 hands have been played.

Summary: STALKER-SoC/CoP hangs at splash screen due to OpenAL32
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.37
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: openal32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: roland(a)rptd.ch
CC: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Classification: Unclassified
Starting STALKER-SoC using wine 1.3.37 results in the splash screen shown and
then the game hangs. Testing shows that if openal32 is overwritten to be
"native" and an OpenAL32.dll from the Internet is used (overwriting
OpenAL32.dll in bin directory) the game runs and can be played albeit there is
no sound output.
So there are two bugs:
1) "openal32" set to "builtin" => game hangs at splash screen
2) "openal32" set to "native" + replace OpenAL32.dll => game playable but no
sound
Could not get further information about the problem. Debug output of wine shows
nothing helpful. Looks like the builtin OpenAL is broken and causes the hang
most probably on initializing the sound system somehow.
Testing system is GenToo amd64. Installed system openal is
media-libs/openal-1.13 . No Pulsed-Audio is installed. Sound output with ALSA
works. Sound output with DSound works (tested on various other games). Only
OpenAL32 seems to be affected by this bug.
STALKER-CoP does not run no matter with or without setting "openal32" to
"native" so most probably a special OpenAL32 would be required to get at last
in-game.

you click yes, it will tell you that the workbook cannot be opened or repaired.
Word and Powerpoint behave similarly, though the wording of their error

I don't have a workaround for this one. I tried winetricks msxml3, msxml4, and

To reproduce this start the console with 'wine wineconsole cmd' and then type
'winepath c:' in the wine console.
The usage will be displayed in the terminal in which you started the
wineconsole instead of in wineconsole itself. This is because winepath uses
regular Unix stdio functions like printf() instead of WriteConsole().
See the XCOPY_wprintf() function in programs/xcopy/xcopy.c or the output_*()
functions in programs/net/net.c for a model on how to fix this.
After fixing this, verify that running 'winepath c:' still works fine in a
regular xterm or equivalent.

pol.exe refresh problem when in windowed mode
In windowed mode, when you move app's window that only part is visible, then in
this partially visible state is not correctly updated.
1) Probably nobody can explain that better than Henri
I think what happens is that the blit is rejected because it's partially
outside
the screen. While moving the window to the outside that isn't very noticeable,
but as soon as you move it back you see the now cleared parts of the window
that don't get updated until the window is fully inside the screen again.
2) Another test scenario:
When app's window is only partly visible and then resized, it becomes black.
Attachment shows the 1st test scenario (they are probably related, thus in one
bug report).

Summary: winmm kept busy playing silence after play finishes
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.25
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: mmdevapi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
CC: aeikum(a)codeweavers.com
The winmm player is kept busy for several seconds after audible rendering ends.
This is easily reproduced using my MCI shell from bug #20232, comment #10.
Issue these commands to the MCI:
open 8k8bitpcm.wav alias 8 ; any sample with at least 2 seconds of data
play 8 from 1000 to 2000 notify ; play sample from position 1s to 2s
play 8 from 1000 to 2000 WAIT
status 8 mode
I recommend to use a multi-line copy&paste to the console instead of typing.
The MCIWAVE player will correctly play 1 second worth of data. After that
however, a random amount of upto 4 messages about ALSA pcm underrun are sent to
the console, approx. 1 per second. It's only after those that the player
eventually stops, i.e. execution of the synchronous command ends.
The command "status 8 mode" serves to show when execution of the previous
command ends.
I suspect the cause is the way mmdevapi handles silence and/or feeds too much
data into the "default" ALSA device. I have no idea where that 1s log message
spacing comes from.
Expected behaviour (as in 1.3.24): the synchronous (WAIT flag) player is kept
busy for 1 second, after which the MCI shell processes the next command. Upto
one ALSA pcm underrun log message is the norm, since indeed WINMM is closed
only after all buffers (headers in waveOut* speak) have been returned to the
app, i.e. there's a tiny gap between "played last header => Set Event" and
waveOutClose. I.e. one underrun is designed into the WINMM API, after playing
ends.

Fixed in 1.4-rc1 (was still present in 1.3.37).
Now it's possible to run the game in hardware accelerated mode.
The performance of WineD3D is terribly poor, however - the game runs smoothly
in SW mode, even with highest gfx settings. In order for it to be playable in
HW mode, one has to turn off almost all gfx options and play in the lowest
screen resolution. But this is not related to this bug report.
As for me, the bug can be finally closed.

The Steam window, when resized or moved shortly after changing tabs, ex. from
Store to Library or visa versa, will act as though the mouse has not been
released after it has been and will remain in its state of resize/move window.
Possibly also related to this, shortly after starting steam and attempting to
move the window occasionally the mouse will stick but the cursor will move
itself to above the Steam window and any attempt to move back within the window
will force it away from the cursor.

The DirectDraw renderer works without this problem. According to bug 21878,

Attachment 36962 from that bug fixes the issue.
The demo has the same problem. It will most likely crash on startup due to a
game bug unless the CPU power available to it is limited somehow, e.g. by
running a program with high CPU usage while starting it.

Summary: Suggestion: Editbox with terminal output in crash

Product: Wine
Version: 1.2

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P5
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: VincentBeers(a)gmail.com
This is a feature request, not a bug.
Wine has an utterly useless "the application has crashed" window, or at least,
it had for a while, I don't know if that has changed. Anyway, I think said
window should have an unfoldable edit box containing all the terminal output of
the application up to its crash, and a button to copy the content in this edit
box. Finally, the crash description should indicate that you should copy that
text and bring it to the Wine forums in order to get help/troubleshooting.
Why? Because it makes giving feedback on Wine apps a lot quicker. A lot of us
do actually run Wine apps from the terminal, but most newbies don't, and this
is a way to assist them helping the Wine devs know about the problem a lot more
quickly than the usual routine, which is:
- Make a forum thread about how the app doesn't work, with little to no further
info;
- Have someone tell you to run in terminal;
- Possibly learn to use the terminal, then run the app from there;
- (At this point, a day may have passed) Run back to the forums with actual
terminal output.
Adding the text box with the terminal output straight into the "application
crashed" window not only makes the window actually useful, but it also
eliminates the delay that exists because new users may have to be assisted in
actually running the app from terminal.
Further notes: of course, from that point, the user may be advised as to how to
run the app from terminal anyway, but at least for this time, or for any time
when they just want to double-click an app to run, they'll get the actual log
much more quickly.

The Atlantis Word Processor works otherwise perfectly, but the main window does
not appear on the Ubuntu/Gnome taskbar panel nor in the alt-tab quick switch
list. If the system is configured to only have one virtual desktop, there is no
way to access the window if it gets hidden by another window. With multiple
virtual desktops in use, the taskbar "button" for Atlantis gets wrongly placed
on the *second* virtual desktop, while the window itself opens on the first one
as expected.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 with wine 1.3.17 from the WineHQ PPA Repository.
The program itself is a 32-bit Windows executable. I have also tried this with
the Ubuntu wine1.2 package, but it has the same problem.
A demo can be downloaded here:

Jacek, let me know if you really need the regression test, it worked for me a
couple years ago, but it's been broken since at least 1.2, and compiling really
old wine will be a pain..
In wine-1.3.19-203-gf555c2d, the launcher screen is non-functional, instead
showing the raw html code. Native ie7 gets a working launcher.

terminal output
'Clones' is a nice Lemmings clone.
After choosing to play the game in single-player mode, the game is stuck on the
level selection screen: clicking on anything on the screen does nothing. The
keyboard is still working and pressing 'q' brings up a window where I can
choose to quit the game (by using the mouse).
Interestingly the bug only appears when selecting single-player mode: no such
problem when entering the multiplayer menu of the game.
The game works without the issue in Wine-1.3.6 and here's the result of the
regression test:

The patch can be reverted cleanly on top of Wine-1.3.10 and that fixed the
issue.
How to reproduce the problem in the demo:
1. After installation launch the game by ../Bin/ClonesGame.exe
2. Create a new profile then choose the first option in the main menu, named
'Pilgrimage'.
3. A level selection screen is shown but you can't proceed further because the
game is stuck.

1. Make sure to keep running an application (e.g.: text editor or terminal,
preferred non-MDI) that opens a window selectable in Alt+Tab keyboard function
of the window manager (tested on Metacity), used to switch windows on the
desktop environment.
2. Download sample application and run it on wine:
http://www.torry.net/vcl/forms/other/mditab.zip
3. The application shows the main window, which gains focus of the window
manager (Metacity).
4. Select File on main menu, then choose New.
5. A new child window is opened inside main window. Both main and child windows
are focused.
6. When pressing Alt+Tab on keyboard, the first selected window is the child
window of the wine application itself. On MS-Windows the first selected window
would be the one of another application.
7. When pressing Alt+Tab again to return to wine application, only the child
window is focused.
8. With only the child window focused, pressing Alt+Tab again first selects
window of another application as happens on MS-Windows.
Expected behavior: when the Alt+Tab function is used, the first selected window
should be of another application. Also, when focus returns to the MDI
application, both main and child window should be focused, not only child
window. Using other non-Delphi MDI applications (eg: Wine File Manager), when
switching back to it with Alt+Tab, both main and child window are focused, as
happens on MS-Windows.

DVD Profiler's 'general' windows contains a link called 'view contributors'.
The 'general' screen appears to be a part of the application. If you follow
this link, it opens a new window showing contributions for that profile. This
screen appears to be an html page rendered in an application window. I make
this distinction because of the different performance.
The main windows of the application perform (more or less) as you would expect,
but some of the html-based windows do not function correctly. In the 'view
contributors' window, you can not scroll or follow links (although a scroll
mouse wheel will scroll the page and the icon changes as you move over a link).
If I install IE6 using winetricks, the screen allows scrolling by clicking with
the mouse, but links still do not work.

dinput: Clip the mouse to the entire window instead of a 1x1 rectangle in
exclusive mode.
The easiest way to see the problem is to
1) download and install the demo (I'll add the download link)
2) go to the graphics options and disable fog and water effects (water effects
work fine in the latest Wine, fog doesn't)
3) start a new game and move forward (Z-key) to exit the "movement tutorial"
4) skip the introduction movie via Esc
5) press the f key to switch to mouse look mode
6) move the mouse/trackpad around
In step 6, you should be able to look around 360 degrees. The breaking commit
limits the area in which you can look around to about 90 degrees (sometimes you
can break out of it, and the area is not always the same 90 degrees). In
particular, looking down is almost completely disabled most of the time.
Sometimes, after pressing Esc to activate the in-game menu, the mouse cursor
will also be stuck to a particular area of the screen. Quickly moving the
cursor around sometimes allows you to break free of those areas.
I'm using a 13" MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.8 and XQuartz 2.7.1_rc1 (same
problem with XQuartz 2.7.0)

I have an in-house windows app.
It's an image viewer that creates a full-screen window to do slideshows.
When you exit the slideshow, the mouse works fine in the windows app's window,
but it doesn't work anywhere else on the linux desktop.
If you alt+tab away from the windows app, then the mouse starts working
everywhere again.
I've had this problem in various environments under ubutnu, including unity 3d
and lubuntu.
The weird thing is I can't reproduce it in fedora 16 under lxde. Also, I tried
crossover on ubuntu (lubuntu 11.10), and it doesn't do it either.
I was able to fix it for myself by doing this in mouse.c (in wine-1.4-rc1)
BOOL clip_fullscreen_window( HWND hwnd, BOOL reset )
{
struct x11drv_win_data *data;
struct x11drv_thread_data *thread_data;
RECT rect;
DWORD style;
/* HACK? */
return FALSE;
I think what's happening is wine is making an invisible window and grabs the
pointer to it, and wine doesn't get rid of this window or ungrab the pointer
when it's supposed to. My app works fine without this behavior (works fine if
clip_fullscreen_window() always returns false).

Notepad2 is a light-weight, freeware text editor. Source code of the
application is also available.
When starting the application, Wine doesn't complain about unimplemented stuffs
(nothing is shown in the terminal actually), yet the application doesn't work
correctly without native msvcp60.
Here are 2 problems which are remarkable at first sight:
- entered text doesn't appear in the editor
- type something in the editor then activate any of the menu options: you can
observe, that the activated menu options remain on the screen even after you
switched to another menu (e.g. press <F1> to open the about window, then click
on the <Ok> button. The about window remains on the screen.)
These issues can be worked around with a native msvcp60.dll

Under recent versions of Wine, after logging in successfully (using PyLOTRO),
DDO will display the loading screen, and then crash silently before the
character select screen appears.
Reproducibility: Always
Steps to reproduce:
1) Open PyLOTRO.
2) Log into game.
Expected behavior:
Loading screen appears, blue bar fills up, character select screen appears.
Actual behavior:
Loading screen appears, blue bar fills up, game shuts down, displays the
PyLOTRO output window, which displays ***FINISHED***.
After some digging, it appears that this crash may be audio-related. The bug
first appears in Wine 1.1.30, and the one Mac-related fix listed in the
changelog for that version refers to OpenAL. Also, in previous versions of
Wine, after quitting the game the message "opena32.dll - cannot find exact
match; picking first". This message does not show up in later versions.
Haven't yet found a backtrace with any telling details, but this message does
show up in my debug log, starting with version 1.1.30:
err:gsm:GSM_DriverProc libgsm support not compiled in!
I haven't tested every version in between, but the crash does occur in 1.1.43,
.44, and all of the 1.2RC's. Tested on a MacBook Pro, Core 2 Duo 2.33, Radeon
Mobility x1600, OS X 10.6.4.

A really simple way to allow SIGINT to break the debuggee
0) In gdb proxy mode an interrupt from the command line (e.g. Ctrl-C), which
should break the application debugged and bring up the gdb prompt, actually

Attached is a capture when the problem is happening, I just fired after turning
right, and the window is now in "resize mode"
Tested on Skulltag 0.98d (windows version), but I guess similar behavior could
happen on other windowed app in exclusive mode.
For example, in windowed mode, when I move the mouse to the right (turning the
player right) and click (to fire), it will result in the window trying to
resize to the right instead of firing, and then doing garbage (firing
automatically, that sort of things).
I tested in "Virtual screen" mode of winecfg, I don't know if it happens in non
virtual screen mode.
I "guess" this bug is linked to this new feature :
"dinput: Clip the mouse to the entire window instead of a 1x1 rectangle in
exclusive mode."
Maybe the new rectangle should be 1 pixel smaller than the window size in order
to avoid system from catching the resize event.
I tried downgrading to the default ubuntu 11.10 version (1.3.28) and the bug
disappear.

Most of the WAV files I've tried to play in IrfanView thus far have exhibited
the behavior described in bug 19496: IrfanView displays an error four times but
plays the file anyway. However, I have one WAV file (not freely downloadable)
which fails to play at all (it also shows six errors instead of four).
I found that this particular file could be played in 1.1.32 and earlier, though
it would be cut off after a few seconds. For a brief time between releases
(e.g. wine-1.1.32-321-g1c7c406) the entire file was played successfully. There
were only five errors displayed when this worked.
Anyway, this is the result of regression testing:

Unzip the installer, then run ClasswareInstaller.exe.
This unpacks itself, then tries to put up an initial GUI.
In wine-1.3.15, the initial GUI comes up ok. In wine-1.3.30-145-g7a4349b
it seems hangs before it draws the contents of the windows.
The GUI appears to hang, but really, it's just not drawing anything.
Clicking in the lower right of the window where the 'Next' button
should be lets it progress.
You can get the same problem by unzipping ClasswareInstaller.exe itself
and running Windows/ClasswareInstaller.exe.
The "hang" occurs not too long after a call to wined3d_surface_blt, so
perhaps that's not doing its job.
export J2D_D3D=false does not help.

Is this still a problem with Wine-1.4rc1 (or newer)?
If so, what video card and driver are you using?
Can you reproduce the issue with the demo as well?
http://www.fileplanet.com/86406/80000/fileinfo/Freedom-Force-Demo-%28large%…
I couldn't reproduce the problem (tried with Wine-1.1.26, 1.1.40, 1.2.3, 1.3.x,
1.4rc1), Freedom Force (Steam version) always started fine, using a Nvidia gfx
card with the proprietary driver.
I didn't install native d3dx9 libraries at all.

I tried the Fallout 1 demo, and I did not see any issues with the game(mouse
pointer or otherwise) with the default opengl renderer.
With the gdi renderer the performance is sluggish. This is not surprising and
most likely caused by the lack of asynchronous blits to the screen. The old
ddraw code had a broken hack for that. If anybody cares about this(e.g. really
old hardware) he can try to implement a similar blitter thread in a clean way.
But I think the chances of that getting accepted are slim.
All in all the bug report is full of it works/it doesn't work/it fails on
Windows too reports mixed with different hacks that makes it difficult to
understand. If nobody clearly states that the bug is still present(ideally with
information about the video hardware and driver and settings) I suggest to
close it as abandoned after the Wine 1.4 release.

With Wine 0.9.50, font sizes were consistent. (The installer failed with Wine
0.9.51.)
To reproduce the problem, do one of the following:
First, in the Family tab, observe "Marriage" has obviously inconsistent font
sizing.
Second, create a new person, named "Fred Flintstone" and observe his name
showing with inconsistent font sizing in both the Family and Pedigree tabs.
Third, import the GEDCOM file I am about to attach. Observe Fred's name in the
Family and Pedigree tabs, plus "Marriage" in the Family tab.

In current git (wine-1.4-rc1-73-g57bb089), I am able to run Planescape Torment
in Windows 7 mode without modifying the registry.
Arch Linux X64
nvidia 290-10
I use the GOG version of Planescape Torment with the suggested fixpacks on this
page : http://www.gog.com/en/news/mod_spotlight_planescape_torment_mods_guide/
Stefan, did you added code recently that could have had an influence on this
bug?

WINEDEBUG=warn+all logs for running pol.exe with wine-1.3.29 and wine-1.3.31
Final Fantasy XI hasn't been working for me for a while. The last working
version that I could find was 1.3.17. I wasn't able to find FreeBSD packages
for 1.3.18 and 1.3.19, so I didn't test these.
>From versions 1.3.20 to 1.3.29, it hangs after character selection and setting
up active characters on the server. A log with WINEDEBUG=warn+all for 1.3.29
is attached (first half of the attached file).
With versions 1.3.30 and 1.3.31, it crashes right after entering login
information. A log with WINEDEBUG=warn+all for 1.3.31 is attached (second half
of the attached file, look for "wine-1.3.31" in the file).

I'm using an ERP client that works quite well with Wine 0.9.46.
After that version something is changed and background windows does not
correctly redraws when you close the top one.
The app uses MDI windows, so all child windows are in the main frame window
context. If you close a top level child window the back one does not redraw
itself.
It seems that invalidate regions are changed after the 0.9.46 version(an
optimization?), resulting in a wrong paint area.
Thanks,
Simone Tregnago

Currently I am using wine-1.40_rc1, but had the same issues with 1.3.37. I did
*NOT* have the end-of-game-delay with version of wine lower than 1.3.36!
When using 'RAD game tools RSX 3D audio', there is a short delay and I get:

QQ Install log, an error is thrown but installation proceeds successfully
Installation of the application works after installing vcrun2005 and mfc42
using winetricks.
During installation an error is thrown, but the installation proceeds
successfully. (see log)
When starting the application right away, it will crash after login (see log),
this can be fixed by installing riched20 or riched30 using winetricks, then
login will work and the contact list gets shown, but after a few seconds the
application crashes. (see log)
Out of curiosity and in an attempt to get the error during installation fixed
(didn't work), I installed dotnet20 using winetricks. With this I can get a
little bit further to the browser window (although it sometimes also gets shown
without .Net) but more importantly I get error messages hinting a threading
problem. (see log)

This problem does not appear to affect all versions and configurations of
bugzilla. I have filed bug reports for Thunderbird and a few other products
using bugzilla but googling my email address does not find those. It does find
my Wine bug report however.
I suspect bugzilla already has an option to fix this - you just need to install
the right version and configure it right...

There are too many open font bugs in bugzilla, sorry if this is a dup.
Can this bug be fixed in wine-1.4, or is there any known workaround?

In the Solaris 10 math.h isinf is only defined if either _STDC_C99 or
_XOPEN_SOURCE - 0 >= 600 or __C99FEATURES__ is defined.
What surprises, is that in config.h HAVE_ISINF is defined with 1. So the
configure check seems to not work correctly.
If I use CFLAGS=-D__C99FEATURES__ wine compiles fine.
This behavior is also showing up on the trunk version.

I can alt-tab out of world of warcraft just fine, but when i go back to world
of warcraft i lose sound and must restart world of warcraft to get sound back.
I think this must be a regression in Wine 1.3. I remember some releases back
that wine and world of warcraft did the exact same thing. So until this gets
fixed i have reverted back to wine 1.1.37 where it does not have this problem.

Summary: Half-life 1: missing PAUSE banner and looking through

Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.37
Platform: x86

Screenshot showing the problem
1. When you press pause key in Half-life you should see banner(or notice)
"PAUSED", but this is missing now. Also when you come as close as possible to
some wall, the texture is cut in half and one half is transparent, so you can
see what is in next room without opening the door.
2. I did a regression test between 1.1.36 and 1.1.38 (.37 does not work):
commit 69861cf8730047a06ad898f9b45a4914a172745c

3. This commit helped "Dragon Age: Origins" with texture glitches. See bug
20469.
4. Revert of this patch on top of wine-1.1.43-321-g94a3c09 makes that problem
go away. (revert of some test was not successful, but doesn't matter here)
5. Adding author of this patch to CC.

Note2: To save time with testing, you can skip initial Sierra logo by renaming
sierra.avi and valve.avi.

This is still a problem with Wine-1.4rc1. The bug can be reproduced with any
older versions of the game (v1.4-v1.8). The current v1.91 version of the game
is free from the problem and mouse works in the menu.

That's not the equation editor; that's the equation toolbar. The equation
editor is accessed via Insert=>Object=>Microsoft Equation 3.0.
Both the equation editor and the equation toolbar work fine in 1.4-rc1, as they
have since this bug was fixed. You probably caused your own problem by
installing unnecessary overrides. Reinstall in a clean wineprefix using plain
Wine following the instructions in the AppDB, and if you still have problems,
ask for help on the forum. Bugzilla is not for user support.

This bug is still present for me with this setup:
- Wine 1.2.3
- PlayOnLinux 4.0.14
- Office 2007
- Ubuntu 11.10
Things I tried, without success:
- Making 'usp10.dll' and 'riched20.dll' native
- Replacing 'ole32.dll.so' from Wine with Crossover's (in the trial version)
Bug symptoms:
- Word 2007 crashes when clicking on 'equations' button in 'insert' ribbon or
when opening a document containing equations.

I have joystick Saitek X52 and it works very well in wine. This device have a
mini-joystick which I use as mouse. I have configured that with
xserver-driver-joystick: map mini-joystick axis to mouse axis.
All this works very well before wine 1.1.28. This version introduced the bug.
When I use mini-joystick to move mouse pointer left an application receives
signal as main axe moved left to the end. Mouse pointer moves as expected.
I have do 'git bisect' to find commit introduced this behavior. So, here is the
first 'bad' commit:

Crysis doesn't play any sound with wine 1.3.30, but it works fine with wine
1.3.29.
I don't seem to have any other sound issue with wine 1.3.30 (I tried the
winecfg sound test, Assassin's Creed, and Guilty Gear XX).
I tracked the regression to this commit:

Summary: Regression in 1.1.12 - Visual FoxPro List View control
renders no text
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.12
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jtk(a)yahoo.com
A regression between 1.1.12~winehq0~ubuntu~8.10-0ubuntu1 and
1.1.11~winehq0~ubuntu~8.10-0ubuntu1 caused a Visual FoxPro application
(CortexEDI specifically) to incorrectly draw a list view.
The list view did not render text data in none of its rows. Because of a
peculiarity of this application, the number of rows always fill the fixed
height of the control, so I can't confirm whether the list has no rows, or all
empty rows.
Downgrading wine from 1.1.12~winehq0~ubuntu~8.10-0ubuntu1 to
1.1.11~winehq0~ubuntu~8.10-0ubuntu1 fixed the problem.
Specific application library information (any DLLs in the program directory,
etc.) available on request, just let me know what would help identify the
regression.

It appears to be related to Bug 17402, also for Battlefield 2. But I run

I don't have any slowdowns as described in Bug 17402 but I also get those

I can play without any other issues, but the texture corruption together with
the console error output indicates something is wrong.

Regression SHA1: 0f10ac93580d5a055f0b3f6e7c3d77738135f031
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Install the demo as usual. Launch the game by ..Bin/Winblade.exe. In the
launcher go to Setup and select audio and video devices (you can also adjust
the screen resolution here).
2. Start the demo by clicking on the <Play Demo> button in the launcher. When
the main menu appears you can observe that the menu options are flashing badly.
Start a new game by pressing <Enter> twice, and you can see that the screen is
flickering, flashing between the loading screen and the actual game screen.

Summary: Midtown Madness 2 speedometer slows game down

I installed the game after using 'winetricks directmusic' as described in
report #21249, and everything worked pretty well. But rendering is a little
sluggish, so after doing some trial-and-error I found the cause to be the
digital speedometer in lower left corner. You can toggle it on and off with H,
and as such I found the game to run quite a bit smoother after toggling it off,
and then slower again when toggling it on again.
I found that this affects both the full version of the game, and the trial
available at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/midtownmad2/Trial/1.0/W9X2K/EN-US/mm…
(You may need to use a virtual desktop in order to get the setup rendering
correctly. However, the game runs well in fullscreen in my experience.)
In multiplayer games it's quite a nuisance having to turn off the speedometer
to achieve acceptable rendering, so if someone could have a look at this and
perhaps improve the situation, I and my friends would be very grateful.

A small source example to reproduce the mt.exe crash
Hi All,
I've been using wine to build binaries with vc9 for a while and it's gone ok,
but I've hit some projects where I need to embed a manifest. It's doing that
that I'm hitting a problem with wine crashing. Mt.exe runs fine when called
with no arguments (just outputs help text).
I installed VC9 by copying the files over from a windows installation. I then
installed vc2008 sp1 runtime in order to fix up some issues the compiler had
finding some msvc* libraries.
I'm running Mandriva 2009.1 x86_64 and I've tried this using both it's standard
wine (1.1.17 at the moment) and compiling 1.1.30 from source (It appears to
work, but I can't be certain I did everything correctly as it pushes out a lot
of text during a run of mt.exe - mostly font stuff).
I've attached two archives. One contains the output of WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh
wine c:/Program\ Files/Microsoft\ SDKs/Windows/v6.1//bin/mt.exe -manifest
win32/indexedTextureLookup.dll.manifest
-outputresource:win32/indexedTextureLookup.dll\;2 run on both 1.1.17 and 1.1.30
The other is a small set of source (the makefile has some extraneous stuff that
is part of the build process I put together to do cross-platform compilation
using wine and VC, but other than that it's all pretty barebones). The line(s)
in Makefile.generic which call mt.exe are commented out.
Let me know if you have any questions or if there's something I can do to help
track down this bug.
Cheers,
Alan.

I can find several hints on the net regarding this missing GetThreadUILanguage.
To me these look like this is something to fix in Wine, not in HeidiSQL.
I'll mark this as Upstream.

Adventure Games crash almost immediately. Up untill wine 1.3.6 it runs fine
(except for the mouse issue reported in bug 6971)
I'm running wine-wow64 on top of archlinux x86_64, but in a win32 wineprefix,
so i figured that would qualify as a x86 wine setup.
The attached log file contains all output that WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid wine

Steps by which I can reproduce:
1. Create a clean wine prefix.
2. Link (or move) a functional Starcraft 2 directory into "C:\Program Files"
3. Run Starcraft 2.
Note: This will seem to work correctly, it loads and even can get into a game.
I believe that it may crash immediately afterward. That crash may be unrelated,
so I don't want to deal with it right now.
4. Close Starcraft.
5. Run it again.
6. Crash before load.
The Starcraft Error Reporter says:
> ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xC0000005)
> occurred at 0023:F7620108. The memory at '0x04F9100F' could not be read.
Later on in that same window "wine_cp_mbstowc" is mentioned (under "Manual

I can provide the full text of this if you would like.
This behavior definitely does NOT occur in 1.3.29 (which for other reasons is
the last version I was using that worked). I do not believe, however, that this
behavior was present in 1.3.35. Cursory testing discovered this problem in
1.3.36, though I performed these more careful steps with 1.3.37. For this
reason, I believe the first version with this regression is 1.3.36.
Attached is a WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid log of the crash behavior. I have
replaced my name in the log file by "myname".
A note: downgrading to 1.3.29, the game runs again. By this, I mean:
7. Downgrade to 1.3.29
8. The game runs perfectly.
(There is no "reinstall" step: the same exact wine prefix and game directory
are used.)
Repeating the upgrade to 1.3.37 causes the behavior to return. For this reason,
I don't think that the game directory is somehow damaged.

The new "Allow the window manager to decorate the windows" option introduced in
Wine 0.9.60 also effects the Wine virtual desktop. When unchecked, the virtual
desktop lacks window decoration itself.
Shouldn't this option be disabled when Wine is set to use a virtual desktop?
Since all Wine apps are going to be inside the desktop, Wine already does all
the window decoration. The window decoration option should probably be grayed
out if the "Emulate a virtual desktop" option is enabled.

When starting a new game in Hardwar 2.04 the player must save the game first.
There is a file dialog box asking for the save game name. The game accepts the
given file name (by default this is Untitled.sav) and begins to load the game.
However an error message appears soon, before the menu could appear. The text
in the error dialog box says:
'Save file extension must be ".sav" - can't use "C:\Program

See the incorrect file extension? Thus the game fails to load and quits.

The reverted patch fixed the issue.
The original demo for Hardwar doesn't have the option to save the game, but you
can reproduce the problem after installing the 2.04 patch over the demo. Please
follow the given instructions carefully (it's gonna be a little tricky doing
this).
1. Launch harddemo1.exe (download link located in the URL field) which extracts
the content of the installer. The default location for the installer will be
C:\users\your_username\Temp\harddemo.
2. Launch the installer with Setup.exe.
3. Download, unpack and install the 2.04 patch, available here:
http://www.downloads.hardwar.info/ftp/patch/official/u204patch.zip
4. Start the demo with Hardman.exe. In the launcher go to the Controls tab and
change the flight controls from keyboard to mouse, then change it back to
keyboard.
5. Go to the Display tab, select Direct3D Primary Display and choose a valid
screen resolution.
6. Go back to the Game tab and click on the <Launch...> button.
7. In the first dialog click on <Ok>. A 'save file as...' dialog appears with
the name Untitled, click on the <Save> button. The game begins to load but soon
it is interrupted with an error message.
The only relevant line in the terminal is
>fixme:commdlg:GetFileName95 Flags 0x00008000 not yet implemented
But this line was present before the regression too.
Please let me know if you need a log with debug channels enabled.

terminal output
Black Mirror 2 is a point-n-click adventure game.
When there is nothing of interest under the mouse pointer, the pointer is shown
as a silver (grey) arrow (this appears correctly in Wine).
When the mouse pointer hits a "hotspot" in the game (e.g. an object with which
you can interact) it turns red.
This red arrow is covered by a solid white box in Wine.
I can't show you a picture of this artefact simply because the white box
doesn't appear in the screenshots.
Steps to reproduce the problem with the demo:
1. Install the demo as usual (DirectX installation is not needed).
2. Launch the demo. You will be greeted with an error message. Click on the
<Ignore> button 7 times to get rid of it (that's bug #24563).
3. You can see the white box on the screen while the game is loading to the
menu. In the menus the pointer appears correctly (it's the default silver
arrow).
4. Start a new game, skip the intro videos. When you gain control over your
character move the mouse across the screen. There are several hotspots on the
scene, when the pointer is hitting one of them it turns to a white box. If you
move the mouse quickly you can spot the red arrow, hiding behind the white box.
I found that the mouse pointer appeared as it should have in Wine-0.9.50, and
bisecting resulted:

engine runs to provide conversation in the game, the game slows to a crawl.
SUSPECTED CAUSE:
The TES: Oblivion game uses an internal scripting engine to run dialogue within
the game. WINE is probably not cooperating well with this scripting engine.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
The conversation engine in TES: Oblivion is run by an internal, LUA-like
scripting engine in the game that has leaves with certain conditions that
determine if the leaves are available. These leaves display a conversation
text on screen, play a related SFX file, and execute a lipsynch animation on
the NPC ("actor") that is speaking. Several conversation leaves use LUA-like
scripts to run game commands, such as giving the player items, setting game
flags, adding quest journal entries, etc.
INSTANCE SPECIFICS:
This crash occurs for me specifically on the opening dialogue with the Emperor
when the Emperor first meets the player character in the Imperial City Prison.
The game slows significantly, and then will eventually crash after a few
dialogues. This is probably related to the crash of certain game
initialisation scripts.
WORKAROUND/FIX:
I was unable to find a way to work around this problem without modifying the
game data. Modifying the conversation script resulted in the game running
longer, but it still seems very unstable in conversation scripts, especially
those heavy in scripting.

Both demo and full version are affected. When the first dialog pops up, after a
second or two, you should be able to press 'enter' to advance to the next
dialog. After the below commit, you're permanently stuck, enter doesn't work,
and the game never advances on its own.
Still present in today's git.

Failing test run, including stacktrace
(FWIW I also hear this audio popping, and see this crash, in Unreal Gold,
although that's going to be hard to find to test with. The crash goes away if
I use directsound (presumably the non-directsound config uses winmm, though I
don't know for sure; it's only UseDirectSound=True or False) in the Unreal
config. But with directsound, I get no audio at all; I'll go debug that one
next. Luckily, the same issues show up in the winmm tests.)
The winmm regtest crashes ever since the mmdevapi rewrite change (either
901af51ea32f2d192a598808abab2d1b6a940773 or
be158e48ad8ee556941bd3f1ff94ca7116680d00 was the change that caused the
breakage to start; in between those two, the dlls/winmm/tests/wave.c test
refuses to run). It also outputs a lot of audio popping before the crash in
some modes, see below.
This test runs several iterations of the 440Hz tone. The first (reference)
tone runs fine. The CALLBACK_FUNCTION and CALLBACK_THREAD runs also work fine.
Then the "10 headers" / CALLBACK_EVENT run is full of pops (approximately ten
of them; looks like one per header). The "5 headers" / "1 loop" /
CALLBACK_EVENT run is also full of pops, though I didn't count how many. (It's
in the neighborhood of 10, though.) Then the 1-second 1-header test runs, with
all three callback flags, and each run works fine (no popping).
Then the 1-second 10-header CALLBACK_EVENT run starts; this one crashes almost
immediately (though it does get a tiny bit of sound out the speaker first).
The tests were all run like this, starting with the .wine-test2 directory not
present:
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-test2 WINETEST_INTERACTIVE=1 ../../../tools/runtest -P
wine -M winmm.dll -T ../../.. -p winmm_test.exe.so wave.c
The full test log (from a git tree as of the 1.3.25 release) is attached,
though note that I had to ctrl-c the test program at the end. I did let it run
for a few minutes after the crash and before sending the ctrl-c, though.
This system is LFS from a few years ago (and a couple local changes as well to
get multilib). Versions of any package are available upon request, though
everything is from source. Packages that I think are important:
gcc-4.4.1
glibc-2.10.1
linux-2.6.39.3 (I have kept the kernel up to date)
alsa-{lib,utils}-1.0.21
Sound device info (from "lspci -v", as root):
00:08.0 Multimedia audio controller: ALi Corporation M5455 PCI AC-Link
Controller Audio Device (rev 20)
Subsystem: ASRock Incorporation ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 Motherboard
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 96, IRQ 18
I/O ports at e800 [size=256]
Memory at febff000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2
Kernel driver in use: Intel ICH
Kernel modules: snd-intel8x0
(This is using ALSA, not OSSv4. "WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-test2 ./wine winecfg"
from the top-level directory shows that ALSA is the only system available; it's
also selected.)
The CPU is a dual-core Athlon64, and although the kernel was built in 64-bit
mode and most of userspace is 64-bit, wine is built in 32-bit mode (USE_ARCH=32
CC="gcc -m32" CXX="g++ -m32" ./configure --prefix=/usr/local --disable-win64),
and I have 32-bit versions of most libraries built and installed (which get
activated based on a wrapper script around their xxxxxx-config scripts when
present, and the USE_ARCH environment variable above).
For any other system info that may be needed, just ask.

The game shows a black screen on startup for a second or two, then it crashes

In the game PoP: SoT, in-game water effects cause the following glitches: the
screen turns to black intermittently, as you rotate the camera with the mouse.
How to reproduce the issue in the demo:
1. Start the demo, create a new profile. If you suffer from the 'fog effect'
bug, go to options and turn off 'Fog effect', but make sure 'Water effects' are
enabled.
2. Start a new game, move your character into the light (skip the video), when
your character re-appears switch to first-person view (by pressing 'F') and
turn the camera with the mouse >> see the intermittent black-outs.
During gameplay the console is flooded with the following two lines of

Whiteness in Sim City 4 Deluxe city view
Sim City 4 installs and runs in software rendering mode but has severe
graphical glitches in hardware rendering mode. In hardware mode fog/smoke is
rendered in a blocky manner and the entire terrain is white so it is very
difficult to distinguish anything. In addition, rendering performance is very
slow in hardware mode. In software mode the game is very responsive. I have
encountered this problem in release candidates 1-4. I was unable to install it
at all using one of the 9.5x versions so overall there has been improvement.
I have attached a screenshot of the city view which is most affected by the
glitch. The cityscape is supposed to be mostly green and brown. Region view has
blocky fog but no whiteness.

Log of: WINEDEBUG=+wgl,+opengl wine ./glWin.exe
OpenGL on an ATI Radeon HD6970 with the fglrx driver release 11.12 (8.920)
fails when the rendering context is created in a child window. The example
program here demonstrates the issue: http://www.songho.ca/opengl/gl_mvc.html,
direct download link: http://www.songho.ca/opengl/files/glWin.zip
When I run that glWin.exe with WINEDEBUG=+wgl,+opengl, the log shows that
rendering is going on and wine indeed gets the calls and does not return
errors, but on screen the window is full of garbage (old framebuffer contents).
It's probably a driver bug, but maybe there's some workaround...
AMD driver release 11.10 had the same problem. I did not try older versions.
This is probably not a duplicate of bug 16806, because the rendering works just
fine with an NVidia graphics adapter and their closed-source drivers, using the
same wine version.

Hello,
I'm able to launch Might & Magic Heroes VI to menu but unable to start a map.
My config : amd64 on gentoo 64. wine 1.3.33 (32bits not 64). fglrx 11.8. ATI
5770.
no winetricks used. all wine settings per default (only tried to change video
memory but the same)
I know there is lots of problems with fglrx+glsl but the crash seems to be in
d3d9 (wined3d_device_draw_indexed_primitive+0xd0) not in fglrx.
The game doesn't allow to disable fbo to backbuffer or disable glsl.
Maybe something i can try to help out.
Thank you

In dlls/winealsa.drv/mmdevdrv.c!AUDDRV_GetAudioEndpoint, the error exit path
for failure to allocate This->hw_params frees This, then calls snd_pcm_close on
This->pcm_handle. This is lines 625-626 in commit
c9a8d3bd8906932130cd98b667574031895f83f0, the value of master at the time of
this writing. This is unlikely to cause problems in regular usage, since it
only occurs on failure to HeapAlloc hw_params and accesses the freed memory
immediately after freeing it. However, as a use-after-free, it is worth fixing
on principle.
This was found accidentally via code inspection while trying (unsuccessfully)
to understand why Wine 1.3.28's ALSA code acquires exclusive access to the
output device. However, the use-after-free is still present in master.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new map.
2. Save the map. In the Save As dialog, type "test".
Expected results:
The map is saved as "test.scm"
Actual results:
The map is saved as "test.scm;"
The problem is in the way the Save As dialog determines what extension to
append to the file name. A workaround is to type "test.scm" yourself in the
Save As dialog.

Summary: Left 4 Dead 2 Sound Drop
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc6
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P1
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tumpster84(a)gmail.com
The sound drop is likelier to happen when you either rescued (by incap or fall)
or you rescue someone else. You expect the rescue sound to play, but it
doesn't, and then most sounds don't play. This or after you rescue someone
parts of the sound will drop, i.e. you can hear a gun firing but rain drops and
voices cannot be heard. There are other instances where this also occurs (like
luck), but the rescue one is the most reliable one to reproduce. Maps like the
Passing and Dark Carnival, and game types like realism have a higher chance as
well. I have not noticed any trends on weapons (melee or guns) and items, or
characters (survivors or infected).
If you turn on captions and play the game, you expect to see readable words.
When the sound problems occur, you'll see garbage appear in the captions
whenever a sound event happens. You could play with the sound drop until:
- you get kicked off the server (even your own) and get the Server not able to
authenticate message
- there is a round change, then the game "breaks", and you'll have to kill
left4dead2.exe and/or crashes back to desktop.
- you take the initiative, quit, and restart the game before the first two
happen
