I have this same problem, but only when I uncheck "allow the window manager to
decorate the windows".
The problem seems to go away as soon as you move the window.

Summary: Starcraft 2: Broken Sound
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.20
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: mmdevapi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: aeneas(a)q-mail.me
Since wine 1.3.19 the sound in StarCraft 2 as well as in other games (see
comments from
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=20882 ) is very
broken. It has a lot of glitches and crashes very often. If it crashes, I have
to select another Sound Device in the StarCraft settings to enable the sound
again.
Pre 1.3.19 using a mmdevapi override (disabled) was enough to enable sound.
I report this using ALSA as my sound driver. eSound actually works pretty well
but has a latency of about 0.6 - 0.8 seconds which is very anoying
If you need any further information, like logs or something please contact me.

Created an attachment (id=35287)

terminal output
When starting the current version of the game (v1.30) I'm getting a warning
from the game that it can't communicate with it's website.
This prevents the game from
- receiving updates
- finding on-line tournaments
- keeping track of high scores etc.
Previous versions of the game (prior to v1.29) have no such problem when
running under Wine.
To reproduce the problem in the demo:
1) Download the demo from the linked url. A standalone patch (1.30) is also
available but it is not mandatory to download because the problem can be
reproduced in v1.29, too.
2) Install the demo as usual then start the game by ../Bin/ClonesGame.exe.
Create a new profile.
3) In the main menu a notification should pop up about available updates (if
you wait for a couple of seconds.) Alternatively, click on <Tournaments>, <Find
Tournament>...a message is shown claiming that the game can't get the servers'
list (check your internet connection or firewall settings...)
Native wininet doesn't help.
The same problem with disabled iptables (just to be sure it's not a firewall
issue).

It seems that I don't need to override any DLLs anymore. I used to need to
override msvcrt, mshtml. I think I still need these to install, but removing
them after installation doesn't seem to have an effect.

Found out that this DotNet download works with wine-1.3.5 and only libraries
msvcrt, mshtml. If I add windowscodecs, and gdiplus, I get TroopMaster hanging
again after downloading the DotNet data.
Although I don't get the hanging, I do get a couple of popup dialogs saying
"Out of Memory". I click 'Ok' and the program continues. Another symptom is the
background picture (a JPEG image) is not displayed, but is just white.
This same configuration doesn't fix the bug using wine-1.2.
Working on trying to narrow this down.

Summary: Application fails to restore window decorations after
exiting fullscreen mode
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.3
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: bazurbat(a)gmail.com
CC: julliard(a)winehq.org
Hello! I have the following problem affecting Lineage II (maybe also other
games, that use fullscreen mode)
In wine versions prior 1.1.3 when maximizing window it just takes all available
desktop space (excluding panels and such). Starting from 1.1.3 on maximize
event app going fullscreen but on exiting this mode (through Alt+Enter) window
decorations are not restored (tested in gnome with metacity, kde with kwin and
compiz with emerald). Also on entering fullscreen mode second monitor goes
blank if I have one enabled (video mode sets to whatever I have on main
monitor).
I use nVidia 8800GT video card with 173.14.12 drivers. Tested on KDE 3.5.9,
GNOME 2.22 and Compiz 0.7.6, with TwinView enabled and disabled.
Through regression testing I've found the commit that introduces the problem:
----------------------------
commit aca0296879dbf634013ea4e08319daf26e45d8db
Author: Alexandre Julliard <julliard(a)winehq.org>
Date: Thu Jul 31 17:11:28 2008 +0200
winex11: Check for wm maximized state in ConfigureNotify and update the
window state accordingly.
----------------------------
It is possible to revert to the old behaviour? At least app should not switch
to fullscreen on maximize. Or, if this is requested by app itself, maybe there
is some way to force it not to go fullscreen but just resize?
Best Regards

Attached is a test case with source and executable.
Steps to reproduce:
- wine explorer /desktop=foo,800x600 graphics.exe
- press the start button
- the new window should now have keyboard focus (but it doesn't) - could be
verified by hitting any key, which would close the window
This works in full screen mode and on win XP. The window could get the keyboard
focus by clicking outside the window and clicking inside the window. It won't
get the focus by only clicking inside.

Wine 1.1.20 console output
WMP9 is needed by a number of other Windows apps.
WMP9 causes two unhandled exceptions that could be safely ignored, but Wine
1.1.20 has introduced a "Program Error" dialog in winedbg. This dialog shows
twice every time any app is run under Wine.
To recreate:
1. winetricks -q wmp9
2. winecfg
Although this is a new feature, I guess it's technically a regression.
Two options: 1. Fix the exceptions or 2. Remove the dialog from winedbg.
Unhandled exception: unimplemented function ntoskrnl.exe.KeInitializeMutex
Unhandled exception: unimplemented function
ntoskrnl.exe.ExInitializeResourceLite
To clarify, once WMP9 is installed, two unhandled exceptions occur EVERY TIME
Wine is run.

Mutter 3.2 supports suspended composition for apps that requests it. Wine
doesn't seem to request / fall into the heuristics.
I'm currently playing some DOOM 3 and it's clearly not undirected when playing
from GNOME Shell. Fallback mode has better performance as nothing is
composited.
If an app is fullscreen it should suspend composition.

Yes I did that back then when I decided on that heuristics, even "benchmark
only" stuff like unengine heaven does that.
They missed Wine games.

I can reproduce this with wine-1.3.34 and Intel Sandybridge graphics when using

I've captured traces using apitrace, and I can replay the dxlevel 90 trace on

the fault of the Intel driver.

Backtrace and wine output from the moment save/open is clicked
When opening or saving with Microsoft Office 2003 applications (have tested
with Word, Excel and Access) a buffer overflow is reported in the terminal
output and the application crashes.
This only seems to affect the open and save dialogue. I have an installation of
1.3.23 on the same machine, and the applications run flawlessly when I use it -
so I suspect this is a regression between then and now.

I can confirm that the problem is no longer present since Wine-1.3.31.
According to my testing this was fixed by
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commit/2ac6a1bbf6eb192a906f31837719e3…
What confused me is the attachment in comment #19: a modified Map.dat file,
which places 2 trees in front of the house, so you can reproduce the problem
easily, without playing the game to the point where the real issue was.
Now I tried that modified Map.dat in Virtualbox (Win XP guest) and it turned
out that those trees appeared incorrectly there as well.
To sum up, trees appear correctly with the original Map.dat file when using
Wine>=1.3.31.
Marking as FIXED.

Same thing happens with Age of Empires II.
It has visually similar game engine.
Playing on lower resolution or more powerful computer makes it lag less but
once more units in the game are built, it lags badly once the mouse movement
occurs.
Also the mouse cursor that game draws, flickers a bit when it is moved around.

Visual C++ 2008 Express installs very nicely in current wine, but I
ran into a missing function _ultow_s:
wine: Call from 0x7b83a43f to unimplemented function msvcr90.dll._ultow_s,

This is after installing a few native things (dotnet20, msxml6, comctl32,

clicking around a bunch.
I'll add a recipe here when I reproduce it.

Thanks all who help to fix the bugs. Now I would declare that WINE can run
BCS.EXE. Although there is still couple of 'fixme' messages:
fixme:hook:SetWindowsHookEx16 System-global hooks (3) broken in Win16
fixme:hook:SetWindowsHookEx16 System-global hooks (4) broken in Win16
But it doesn't bother me in terms of running BCS.EXE in Fedora 14 x64bit
version with WINE version wine-1.3.21. The command to run is as following:
env -i PATH=$PATH DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY HOME=$HOME
/usr/bin/wine "C:\bcs\BCS.EXE"
One caveat to be aware of is in order to view all the installed "bibles", you
may need to rename all the bible files in CAPITAL case. For example, cp Niv.dat
NIV.DAT, etc. Otherwise you won't be able to see and select them in the "New
Bible Window" of Gramcord menu.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year!

2. install chromium.
3. start chrome.exe
4. open two tabs, drag out one of them to create a new window, then try to drag
them together. On windows, the two tabs will merge to a single window again,
but on Wine it fails.
Same result if "Allow the window manager to decorate the windows." is set to
false.
Any suggestion for wine debug channel?

wined3d: Skip some unnecessary FBO binds.
sounds innocent, but causes a curious effect: the screen freezes always at the
same position, in a scene one can reach roughly 5 minutes after starting the
first level. It happens when the camera starts zooming onto the tunnel whose
door Leia unlocked by moving 2 boxes.
Pressing Esc to enter the (OSD) menu does not unblock the screen.
However the app is not dead. Once one moves back (despite the frozen display),
away from the tunnel, everything works perfectly once again. One can return to
the rooms previously visited.
The app gets a garbage rating with that regression, because the frozen screen
prevents progression to the next level. OTOH, wine-1.1.24 deserves
silver-gold. The bug is still present in wine-1.1.40.
Using MacOS X 10.5.8 with NVidia 9400 graphics. IIRC, but perhaps I used an
older version, Ubuntu with Intel i915 graphics is not affected (it has no FBO
AFAIK?), but the Intel is too slow generally for this app.
I have attached no log because the console shows nothing distinguishing.
Unable to load NVCPL.dll [not seen on Intel]

Now that bug #27730 has been fixed the game exits normally, but I noticed that
Wine doesn't restore the original desktop resolution after exiting the game.
The screen stays at 800x600 resolution after quitting the game. This is
reproducible with both the demo and the latest officially patched game version,
also sold by GOG.com (v1.0.7.4). The problem also occurs with the unofficial
high resolution (widescreen) mods.
Terminal output doesn't reveal anything interesting.

Although the patch was for gdi32, the icons appear correctly (except with
broken transparency) if native comctl32 is used, so I guess the problem could
be there too.
To reproduce: install the program - it isn't necessary to generate a serial
number or register as an Avira user. Eventually, it prompts to reboot. Choose
yes, and it should start up automatically afterward. Double-click the tray icon
to bring up the interface, and the regression should be apparent with the
configuration and online help icons on the initial screen.

Ideally, wine would compile without any warning whatever your compiler or

Cashbook Complete (which uses the MS Access runtime) used to display and work
mostly just fine with wine version prior to 1.1.2x, but since I upgraded to any
wine version greater than 1.1.2x, icon text has been incorrectly displayed and
all text input fields are unreadable while editing or filling in. Mouse
positioning within text is not possible as the cursor will not go beyond the
first inch of the left margin of the text input field no matter where I click
within the viewable text field.
I have attached a .gz file with the following snapshots
wine-snapshot1.png - shows the program operating normally using wine 1.1.15
wine-snapshot2.png - shows the program during text edit using wine 1.1.24. Note
the input field is unreadable in the Description column.
wine-snapshot2.png - As above but have tabbed the cursor to the Quantity field,
the text I typed appears, but if I try to re-edit it by clicking my mouse
anywhere in the text, the mouse cursor sits in the middle if the word
"rendition" and the text input field is unreadable again.
I have edited snapshot3 to draw attention to the icon text as well, which you
will see is the same in snapshot2, but no problem in snapshot1.
I did save a terminal output file of the complete wine cshbk502d.exe install
process followed by winetricks dcom98 as is required to get this program
working but I copied the wrong text files to my LAN and am unable to recreate
them for time restraints. If you need them, I will repeat the process through

You can get a copy of the cshbk502d.exe from

Missing title bar in editable dialog
A child dialog (WS_CHILD) window can request WM_CAPTION and WS_SYSMENU.
The very obscure case of this is a free resource editor like ResEdit. With
ResEdit the WM_CAPTION style is ignored when the window is first created
leaving the editable window without a title bar, this is incorrect and also
causes height calculation problems when the program expect the title bar to
exist.
The incorrect rendering is shown in the attachment. Toggling some style options
which triggers SetWindowLong() will make the title bar appear and everything
continue working correctly.
I'm not 100% sure about WM_SYSMENU showing up on Windows, I'd expect it to be
shown if requested altough not working as the dialog is in disabled state to
prevent using them.
Patch attached to show the incorrect handling of WM_CAPTION. Fixing this should
be trivial by loosening the restrictions posed on WM_CHILD windows.

Summary: IAudioClock_GetPosition must not depend on buffering
(ALSA/Pulse)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.25
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winealsa.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
GetPosition is critical because the new "winmm on mmdevapi" layer relies on it
for its buffer management. Currently, neither winealsa nor winecoreaudio
entirely fulfill GetPosition's contract.
GetPosition yields "the stream position of the sample that is currently playing
through the speakers". My tests show that it ignores underruns and is therefore
not identical to a clock. One can derive at least 2 tests from that:
1. GetPosition <= elapsed time * samples/sec (cannot hear the future).
2. GetPosition <= sum of samples fed to the device.
3. GetPosition == sum of samples once all have been played.
4. Getposition is monotically increasing (except when Reset).
Actually GetPosition does not yield samples (rather than time, which will be
important the day Wine implements the SetSampleRate API), replace the above
with GetPosition / GetFrequency * samples per sec to be correct.
My tests attached to bug #27937 show that:
- winecoreaudio fails test 3 (then 2).
- winealsa with dmix fails test 1 during the first seconds of play.
- winealsa with pulse fails test 1 much worse because it buffers more.
See bug #27937 comment #1 and 2 for log snippets.
snd_pcm_delay must be used to get the speaker position, as I noted in
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2011-August/091371.html
Unfortunately, GetPosition in winealsa.drv/mmdevdrv.c instead uses
snd_pcm_avail_update, returning not the position of the sample currently
playing rather than some number related to how much data was buffered, i.e. it
is ahead of time. Hence the name of the present issue.

On windows, if you press CTRL+tab, then release CTRL, it automatically

switched to. On wine, the menu remains open, and the only way to dismiss it is
to click on the document in the list that you want.

Fujiprint. Fujiprint offers them some kind of customizable ordering software,
available for free eg. at:
http://photoservice.fujicolor.de/downloads/SG-EC-20/Rossmann_Fotoservice.exehttp://downloads.poi.de/lidl/LIDL_Fotoservice_Setup.exehttp://www.aldifotos.de/sued/index_leinwand.html
This software works flawlessly under wine 1.1.1, except for the vital network
connection (easy test: start the software and hint "Update" from the main menu
bar).
Putting the IP and hostname of the local computer as only entry into /etc/hosts
does not help. Other networking software such as firefox 3.0.1 work without any
problem under the same installation.

Log with WINEDEBUG=all+relay,+seh,+tid,+ddraw,+d3d_surface
Starting with Wine 1.3.33, when I start Gens-11b rerecording (available for
free at http://code.google.com/p/gens-rerecording), I get the following error
message:
Ooups...
Error with lpDD_Back->SetSurfaceDesc !
The error message appears on a message box, twice on a row -- once trying to
create a 2x surface, another time trying to fallback to 1x. Following that, the
emulator window is transparent and won't draw anything; everything else seems
to work fine. This is for the emulator in windowed mode, by the way.
If I try it full screen instead, the emulator fails to initialize fullscreen
and tries to fallback to windowed mode, in which case the error chain proceeds
as above.
The error happens whether directdraw drawing mode is GDI or OpenGL, and whether
or not a virtual desktop is enabled in winecfg.
Up until the previous version of Wine, the emulator worked perfectly fine. I am
working on Ubuntu Oneiric, and using the Wine version from the official Wine
PPA. I have tried with a clean Wine directory, as well as one with the D3D
libraries overridden using Winetricks. Other Windows games work normally.
I am unsure which component exactly is affecting this, so I am marking it as
'unknown'.
Attached is the backtrace with
WINEDEBUG=all+relay,+seh,+tid,+ddraw,+d3d_surface

I am running Wine 1.3.34. This also happens in Wine 1.2.3. The error
is with the Java RE installer. In a nutshell, it won't let me
reinstall once it detects it's already (partly!) installed...
This is just a problem with how a button in a dialogue is handled. It
does ask twice if I want to reinstall if I say yes but then fails.
This is Slackware 13. I'm using the binary Slackware package linked on
winehq.org. The java installer I'm using is
jre-6u29-windows-i586-s.exe from java.com I think. Um
So I am saying wine jre-6u29-windows-i586-s.exe. It goes,
err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"reinstalldialog"
returned 1602
fixme:storage:create_storagefile Storage share mode not implemented.
err:msi:msi_load_all_components can't initialize assembly caches
err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"reinstalldialog"

That's just from me hitting "yes" twice. Then it exits. Any ideas?
Thanks,

The launcher used by several games from Telltale Games used to work reasonably
well in Wine with only Gecko installed (at least those games could be started).
Now the launcher is unusable mainly because none of the buttons in the launcher
can be activated thus the games cannot be started. Additionally the launch
button appears off-screen, only the left part of the button can be seen.
Workaround: winetricks ie8
Steps to reproduce the problem with the demo:
1. Install the demo for Strong Bad Episode 1.
2. Launch the demo by Homestar101.exe and wait for a couple of seconds until
the launcher is fully loaded. You can notice that the green <Click here for a
free demo> button is off screen. The biggest problem is that that button is
unclickable (as well as other buttons in the launcher).

After working around bug 21794 by installing ie6 from winetricks and installing
vcrun6sp6 and vcrun2008 from winetricks to allow the H&R Block At Home 2009
Deluxe updater to run, I notice that the updater seems to clobber the vcrun2008
winsxs manifests and libraries, making H&R Block At Home 2009 Deluxe unusable.
If I avoid installing vcrun2008 until after the updater finishes, then I do
manage to start the program, but the updater tool still wants to install
updates, suggesting that the tool didn't run correctly. Initiating an update at
this point causes the same winsxs destruction issue. The log when running the
program and updater is attached.

Only one small function broke, I think with the latest update in late October
2011, but it could be unrelated. I am on Ubuntu 10.04.
Quicken gracefully crashes when clicking on an investment account in order to
open its register. The message is: Quicken has encountered a problem and needs
to close. Quicken reports error 7027, 7028 and such.
This happens with ALL investment accounts. Also, data seems to be all there
because Quicken still shows correct amounts in sidebar. You just can't go in
the register and record more transactions, however ONLY for investment account
registers. All other accounts/registers work fine.
Thinking data file corruption, tried recovering an old file from backup, still
same behavior. Also tried adding a new blank investment account, also refuses
to open its register.

Neon Wars is a simple arcade game similar to Asteroids.
Mouse movement and animations are extremely slow, jerky in the game. Can be
observed in the menus and during gameplay, too.
The game offers DirectX and OpenGL rendering modes; the problem is present in
both modes.
Fullscreen as well as virtual desktop mode produce the same behaviour.
The game was running fine in Wine-1.3.14:

It's not due to a spoiled wineprefix, as i tested and reproduced this behaviour

The Icons in the Filedialog are missing as well.
Terminal output is not attached, as the only thing i get are two fixme's at the
very start of "msiexec /i SteamInstall.msi", and i highly doubt it's related to

ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
This bug applies to Paradise Quest and Treasures of the Serengeti, two games
developed by I-play.
These games have an option to use a custom mouse pointer instead of the
default. When that option is enabled, enabling or disabling full-screen mode
causes the previous (default) mouse pointer to remain on the screen. I tested
with Wine 1.2rc6, Xubuntu 9.10, Nvidia driver 256.35.
To reproduce, download and install the game. After installing you'll need to do
"winetricks ie6" in order for the trial front-end to work. Run the game, enable
custom cursor in the game options and switch between full-screen and windowed
modes.
The games can be downloaded from
http://www.egames.com/game/download/paradise+quest.html and
http://www.egames.com/game/download/treasures+of+the+serengeti.html
Alternatively, a bundle with both games plus one other can be downloaded from

Summary: WinUAE DirectDraw graphics overwrite windows which are

Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.3

Severity: minor

Component: directx-ddraw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
WinUAE is an open source emulator of Amiga computers, downloadable from
http://www.winuae.net/
WinUAE uses DirectDraw for its display, which shows up several bugs in Wine's
DirectDraw implementation.
Run WinUAE and start the emulation. If you move or resize another window in
front of the main WinUAE window, the WinUAE contents "shine through",
overwriting the window you are moving. If another window is opened (partly)
overlapping the WinUAE window, its contents appear correctly, until either the
new window is moved or resized, or until WinUAE renders into its window, when
the inside part of the WinUAE window overwrites the frontmost window.
Also, minimising the WinUAE window causes the whole desktop to turn black.
(That issue is bug 1347, but I believe the "shining through" issue is different
to that.)

This only occurs when compiling Wine with gcc -O0. It works fine with gcc -O1
and the precompiled .deb (which I believe to be -O2).
Workaround is to use native msxml3 OR compile with gcc -Ox where x>0.
Bug also does not exist with Wine-1.3.0 or Wine-1.2 with gcc -O3, but I cannot
recall this bug occurring before so could be a regression (perhaps even in
gcc).

Hello,
--- quote ---
Dan, download link no longer works. I can't find this old version for download.
Over 1 year without posts.
--- quote ---
yep, the Adobe website is a mess (as their products) ... many broken download
links.
Marking this one abandoned...
Reopen if you manage to find FlexBuilder version 2.0.1 and demonstrate the
problem with _recent_ Wine version.

Both games install fine, but will not run at all.
I am new at all this and apologize for not doing a regression test. I will
however eventually figure it out.
I have run both age of empires 2 and 3 on previous versions of wine (probably
around 1.1.23) without this problem so i am guessing a regression. I'm use
Nvidia drivers version 195.36.24 also have tried reinstalling and upgrading
drivers to the latest version. no luck, same error.

Bug #: 29346
Summary: Gens 11b rerecording: unacceptable performance in Wine
Product: Wine

ReportedBy: marzojr(a)yahoo.com
Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 37969
--> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=37969
The end result of regression testing with git bisect.
Gens rerecording (possibly also the original Gens, I haven't tried it) has been
having unacceptably bad performance under Wine -- to the tune that, in my
computer, it runs faster in a XP virtual machine than it does on Wine. I knew
that at the start of the year the performance was fine, so I performed
regression testing to find out what was causing the problem; the results of the
bisection are attached.
I have chosen as the component what I think is the culprit; strictly speaking,
the user32 component was also changed in the patch, so maybe both are to blame.
I also have marked the current release of Wine because the problem persists
since then.
For reference, Gens rerecording is open source, and can be obtained here:

Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.34

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: wineserver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: t.artem(a)mailcity.com
Classification: Unclassified
I have several wine prefixes but I want to keep the default ~/.wine temporary
thus I created a symbolic link from ~/.wine to /tmp/wine. I do it because I
don't want to have temporary software kept (and survive reboots) at all.
The problem is that my /tmp folder is a tmpfs mount point thus after every
(re)boot /tmp is empty and /tmp/wine doesn't exist any longer. In this case
wine fails to run with this message:
wine: chdir to /home/username/.wine
: No such file or directory
Please, allow such a usage scenario (e.g. try to create ~/.wine regardless).

It has come up at WineConf / on #winehackers, though not discussed in (great)
detail.

Austin, are you saying there's talk (but no decision) about removing vm86?
I think dosbox would need to be turned into a library that Wine links with,
instead of just being called started and left to run standalone, or maybe vm86
could run with QEMU on systems that don't support vm86.

make a release with this fix).
At this point, no decision has been made on removing vm86 support (to my

With dosbox 0.7.4 it dies but it works with current dosbox svn.
These messages appear in both cases:
CONFIG:Loading primary settings from config file
/home/xxx/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/xxx/Temp/cfg21b.tmp
MIXER:Got different values from SDL: freq 44100, blocksize 512
ALSA:Can't subscribe to MIDI port (65:0) nor (17:0)
MIDI:Opened device:oss
And it works fine both with wineconsole and wine.
So I guess this bug is fixed (due to dosbox integration?).

The installers for several CD-ROM titles published by GSP have a similar PIF
file issue, but it's slightly different. Titles I checked so far are 20000
Pictures volumes 1 and 2, Business Cards and Discovering Endangered Wildlife.
[Failing to run the batch files for these is not serious; they would just
delete temporary files created by the installer.]
Based on the PIF file contents, the installers seem to be created using a
program called PC-Install. The PIF file invokes COMMAND.COM instead of
specifying a batch file directly.
I'll attach a +winevdm trace but the most significant lines are these:
trace:winevdm:main GetCommandLine = 'winevdm.exe --app-name
"C:\users\mark\Temp\dosshell.pif" C:\users\mark\Temp\dosshell.pif /C
C:\users\mark\Temp\~0000.bat'
...
trace:winevdm:read_pif_file header: program "COMMAND.COM" title "PC-Install DOS
shell " startdir "" params ""
...
winevdm: can't exec 'C:\users\mark\Temp\dosshell.pif': file not found
In this case C:\users\mark\Temp\dosshell.pif does exist, so the message Wine
prints is slightly misleading. It should be a simple patch to check if
COMMAND.COM is specified in a PIF file and print a similar message to the .bat
file case.

I had to either disable spell checking in the application, or use native

I built wine 1.3.2 from git like this:
$ cd ~/wine-git
$ git checkout wine-1.3.2
$ cd ../wine32
$ ../wine-git/configure
$ rm -rf /home/edwin/.wine-cs4/ && mkdir ~/.wine-cs4 &&
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-cs4 sh ~/winetricks msxml6 gdiplus gecko vcrun2005
So far so good, but the installer is all a white dialog (except for the
'checking your system profile part' which is shown):
I filed this as an shdocvw bug due to these messages, please change component
if this is not the cause:
fixme:shdocvw:ClOleCommandTarget_Exec Unimplemented cmdid 26
fixme:shdocvw:ClOleCommandTarget_Exec Unimplemented group

fixme:shdocvw:ClientSite_GetContainer (0x154270)->(0x32e6b0)
I tried using winetricks ie6, but that only leeds to the setup telling me it
encountered an error.
Tried with winetricks ie7, I got a white dialog there too.
I'll attach the logs now.

Bug 24078 is about incorrectly settings of resolution, which probably never
worked correctly in wine.
This one is about regression... When the game starts up, it doesn't show game
menu on right side, because it's cut off. Because the game by default runs in
windowed mode, i can stretch out the window. And this is broken since 1.1.41.

Unfortunately there are plenty of other places left. Perhaps we should
consider creating our own window when the context becomes invalid and

I am running Gentoo Linux with Gentoo-Sources 3.1.1-hardened for a kernel, and
wine-1.3.34 compiled from source. USE flags for wine are:
X alsa cups dbus fontconfig gecko gnutls hardened jpeg mp3 ncurses openal
opengl oss perl png samba scanner ssl threads truetype win32 win64 xcomposite
xinerama xml
USE flags NOT enable:
capi custom-cflags gphoto2 gsm gstreamer lcms ldap opencl test v4l
So I have a working install of Microsoft Office 2007 installed in its own
32-bit prefix in /home/bobby/.win32, if I run:
WINEPREFIX="/home/bobby/.win32" winecfg
I get no errors at all and also the drive tab will work in winecfg, however if
I then remove my 64-bit prefix with
rm -rf ~/.wine
and then
WINEPREFIX="/home/bobby/.wine" winecfg
I get the following errors in terminal:
preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 00007ffffe000000-00007fffffff0000
err:process:start_wineboot failed to start wineboot, err 1359

L"C:\\windows\\system32\\winecfg.exe", err 1359
preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 00007ffffe000000-00007fffffff0000
and if i then go to the drive tab in the winecfg window that opened another
error shows in terminal:
err:winecfg:open_mountmgr failed to open mount manager err 2
however all of this works just fine if i specify
WINEPREFIX="/home/bobby/.win32"
Note that I do run a hardened kernel but it does not have grsecurity or SELinux
enabled, only PaX and all PaX markings are disabled for /usr/bin/wine, in fact
I ran:
paxctl -zpemrxs /usr/bin/wine
just to make sure
Also I have this problem in wine-1.3.29, im not sure of the builds in between,
i had masked upgrading past 1.3.29 because 1.3.30 broke my Office 2007 install,
but that regression is gone in 1.3.34 but not I have this problem...
I have searched every where for some answers but have found little. If this is
the wrong place to post about this then my apologies, I just didn't know who
else to ask and thought the people that made the software might be a good place
to start. :)
I am not attaching anything at this point because I believe I have posted
everything relevant here but I do have the build log for 1.3.34 if it would
somehow help or if you need anything else just let me know and I will post it
with haste ;)

Hi,
Some programs cause the following text to be printed over and over to the
console:
fixme:d3d_surface:wined3d_surface_blt Blit clipping not implemented.
It would be good if that message could be shown only once (or suppressed after
a certain number of times).
One program which shows this is WinUAE 2.3.3. I tested in Lubuntu 11.10 64-bit.
To demonstrate:
- Download the WinUAE 2.3.3 installer
- Run the installer, check the box to run WinUAE at the end.
- When the WinUAE Properties window opens, depending on the graphics driver,
you might need to change filter type from Null filter to None for this issue to
show up.
- Click the Start button.
- Drag the emulation window until it is partly off-screen.
- Wine prints the same fixme over and over:
fixme:d3d_surface:wined3d_surface_blt Blit clipping not implemented.

Running any application generates repetitive log information
that makes uploading and analyzing logs difficult, and confuses users.
For instance, here's a tally of the log messages generated by
just launching Firefox and loading one little web site:
239 fixme:font:ExtTextOutW flags ETO_NUMERICSLOCAL | ETO_NUMERICSLATIN |
ETO_PDY unimplemented
105 fixme:resource:GetGuiResources (0xffffffff,0): stub
60 fixme:ntdll:NtLockFile I/O completion on lock not implemented yet
2 fixme:file:MoveFileWithProgressW MOVEFILE_WRITE_THROUGH unimplemented
...
It would be good to reduce this verbosity, without hiding
useful fixmes. Because it's difficult to know which ones
are useful, let's focus on just the few highly repetitive
messages.
One thing we've done in the past is added a check to only print
the fixme the first time it's hit. This is probably the way to go.
Another thing that is a little easier to do is to change
the fixme to a trace; if we do that, we might want to put 'fixme:'
as the first thing in the trace message, to remember that it
needs fixing.

Hi,
This issue is shown with WinUAE, an Amiga emulator. It does happen with the
latest WinUAE release (2.3.3), but is easier to reproduce with earlier
versions.
With certain settings, thousands of identical fixme messages are "spammed" to
the console output:
fixme:d3d_surface:surface_cpu_blt Filter WINED3DTEXF_LINEAR not supported in
software blit.
It would be nice if the fixme could be printed once only. I tested Wine 1.3.34.
To reproduce:
- If using Wine 1.3.28 or later, first do "winetricks ddr=gdi" for there to be
any emulator output at all (see bug 29245).
- Download an example disk image, e.g.
http://www.amigaemulator.org/files/rsi1.adf.gz
- Download and run the WinUAE 2.2.0 installer from
http://www.winuae.net/files/InstallWinUAE2200.exe
- Run winuae.exe
- Click OK at the dialog box about system ROMs. The WinUAE Properties window
opens.
- Click Floppy drives in the tree view at the left of the window.
- Click the ... button to the right of the DF0: entry (at top right of
window), and select the rsi1.adf.gz file.
- Click Start. The emulation begins.
- After a while, press F12 to bring up the WinUAE Properties window. Click
Filter in the tree view. Change Filter Settings from none to Null filter.
- To work around Wine bug 10643, click in the emulation window and press F12.
- Click OK to continue emulation.
- Notice how the fixme is printed over and over.

2. Start Excel. When the activation wizard comes up, click cancel (bug 25478)
3. Try to open an xls or xlsx file. Excel will throw up an error message that
says "Cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough
available memory or disk space."
Winetricks urlmon partially fixes the problem; it enables Excel to open xls
files, but not xlsx files. (I'll file another bug for the latter issue.)
Word and Powerpoint behave similarly, though the wording of their error
messages is somewhat different. Powerpoint says it found an error it can't
correct, while Word just says it has experienced an error. Both are also
partially fixed (for doc and ppt files) by native urlmon.

Backtrace outputed when running the setup program via terminal.
I'm trying to install Trillian 5 but it crashes upon launching the installer.
There were reports of it working with Wine 1.3.22 but I tried that version in
my system and it didn't (which makes me think it may not be a fault in Wine but
in its interaction with another thing).
Wine GIT as of 3th of July 2011 produces the same output. You may find as an
attachment the backtrace it produces when running Wine from the console.
Please don't mind the winemenubuilder.exe error, it's displayed because I
disabled it in the Wine configuration program.
The system I'm running is a 64-bit Arch Linux, with OpenSSL 1.0.0.d (relevant I
think as the offending library is libcrypto).

Console log from opening and then trying to close Word 2003
The file normal.dot is where Word stores the default document settings; it is
normally loaded on startup, and updated on closing.
In 1.1.35, on opening, Word throws up the error message "Word cannot open the
existing (Normal)." Clicking okay, the dialog closes and the program seems to
operate normally. However, on closing, Word throws up the error message: "There
is a serious disk error on file ~WRD0000" and after clicking okay, "The network
path where you are trying to save the document is unavailable." (The path is in
~/.wine, on my local disk--there is no network.) After closing that dialog by
clicking cancel, and trying to close the program again, Word this time throws
up the message "Changes have been made that affect the global template. Do you
want to save those changes?" If you answer no, the app will finally close. (If
you answer yes, it repeats the message about a serious disk error.)

It does not fix the bug. The behaviour is different, though. Instead of
reporting the failure the installer window disappears but the process stays
around. You have to kill it with ctrl+c.

Summary: Worms Armageddon produces a black screen on boot when

Created attachment 37501

terminal output logs for WA with OpenGL and GDI.
When Worms Armageddon is started with the OpenGL renderer (the default,
remember), a black screen is produced. The frontend appears to work despite it
(you can hear the menu sound effects when you mouseover/click buttons), but
obviously you can't see anything, aside from a few white marks on a few screens
that could be the borders to certain controls (which can also be seen when
similar bugs occurred for different reasons on Windows). I have not confirmed
whether or not ingame works, but I can if it is deemed relevant to the bug - I
have a feeling it probably will, because ingame stuff is in general a lot
better-coded than the frontend of WA ;).
I've attached the terminal output from running Worms Armageddon with OpenGL
first and GDI second so you can compare and contrast - note especially line 7
of the OpenGL output.
As usual, the same bug almost definitely applies to Worms World Party, but due
to the difficulty in getting it running with wine (bug 2082), I do not wish to
test for sure. (For the record, Worms Armageddon's latest updates have a
workaround for bug 2082 that is enabled when wine is detected, but at the cost
of being able to minimise once ingame - not usually a problem when you are
running in a virtual desktop).
There are no demos of these games that can be run under wine (again, bug 2082),
unfortunately, so you'll have to buy Worms Armageddon if you want to test
yourself.
Initial discussions of this bug took place in bug 28217.

Click in the date box, on the year (2009). On windows, one click on it

immediately cleared, and 2001 put in its place. On wine, typing the last

Additionally, the calendar selection tool is really buggy, but there are other
bugs for that, I think.

Testing tool MS ControlSpy allows to learn common control (and some from user32

Running in Wine parent notifications list works as it should while control
messages list is always empty.
This causes a loss of functionality - this is list is useful to check redrawing
messages for example.
I could help with any needed debug output to solve this.

Summary: Motocross Madness 2 crashes at start (d3d)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.30
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal

I wanted to retest bug 17836, but my effort failed shortly. When mcm2 is run,
it should test graphics capabilities and display classical window "Please
choose a 3d card: 1. Software Rasterization / 2. DirectDraw HAL". But instead
the game crashes.
1. I did a regression test between 1.1.29 and 1.1.30:
commit a5214c306fd82982ed10fd8221ac00230186c9a6
Author: Henri Verbeet <hverbeet(a)codeweavers.com>
Date: Wed Sep 16 08:37:15 2009 +0200
wined3d: Don't free D3D surfaces until the wined3d surface is destroyed.
This prevents for example a d3d9 depth stencil from being destroyed when it
has no external references but is still in use by the device/stateblock. A
nice side effect is that it simplifies handling of "implicit" surfaces like
the frontbuffer and backbuffers, as well as the forwarding of reference counts
for surfaces that are part of a texture.

2. No other bug report suffers from this commit.
3. Revert of this patch after git checkout makes that problem go away.

regression test result identifying the bad commit
I and 2 other guys don't have sound while playing DoW. Other games work fine.
I made a regression test and found the bad commit, see attachment.
Removing the commit from yesterdays trunk I can play the game with sound.
All tests are done on a Sidux x64 Box, running a Debian unstable 32bit chroot
environment in which I compile and use wine.
