Yahoo/Wine error
I run Ubuntu 11.10. Downloaded Wine 1.2.3 from Ubuntu Software center and
downloaded Yahoo messenger 11. First thing I had to do was move msgr11us.exe to
c:\system32 file and did the install with Terminal. Everything downloaded and
installed just fine. I logged into YIM and got an error. See screen shot.
I myself am learning Ubuntu on my own by tinkering and reading various
websites.
I was wondering if there is a fix for this issue?
Thanks for the help.

The last 2 messages says the problem does not happen anymore. I tried to test
but my intel driver does not allow me to (game don't run). Can anyone retest in
a more recent wine version?
If you are in a non english system you need "LANG=C wine Tod_e_demo.exe" to run
the application or it will complain about not having support.

Screenshot of Missing Fonts / menus in TF2
I've been seeing this bug in TF2 on FreeBSD for as long as I can remember. When
you enter the game, the menu fonts appear to be missing, but some show up in
the game browser. I've tried the obvious stuff, like installing various fonts,
such as Arial, Tahoma, etc, but nothing seems to make a difference. When
playing the game, fonts show up just fine for in-game chat and such, its only
the menus which are effected.
I've also tested this on different systems, with nvidia, and intel cards, and
the issue is the same, which makes me suspect it's a wine issue, not drivers.
Here's a list of extra fonts in my .wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts folder:

I have tested it with "wine progman" and although the scroll bars do not appear
anymore, I'm not sure the current behavior is the correct one. If I drag the
bottom-right corner of the inner window to touch progman's borders, it works
fine. But if I pull it beyond progman's borders, then the inner window edges
disappear (beneath the edge of progman's window I guess). I'm not sure if this
is the correct behavior.

Star Trek Online crash -- mini log (+relay,+seh,+tid)
Star Trek Online is able to install, and launch fine. The login window also
appears fine, and the login procedure is successful.
After logging in, there is a "Cryptic Studios / Atari" loading screen. The
progress bar makes it to about 75%, then the program crashes and a separate
process "CrypticError.exe" is launched which is meant to report the crash to
Cryptic.
The full log, from program start, to crash is about 2.8 gigs in size, so I've
attached a small portion of the log (last 8700 lines) ending with the loading
of the CrypticError process, generated with WINEDEBUG channels
+relay,+seh,+tid.
Just let me know if I can provide any further information, such as another log
with more (or less) detail.

Sym For Windows (SFW.exe or just SFW) is proprietary banking software provided
by JackHenry for a GUI interface to connect to a banking database and perform
teller transactions. It requires a middleware program, RemoteAdminServer.exe
(RAS), to hide the telnet backend for the SFW GUI front end. RAS installs and
seems to run just fine. RAS then downloads from the unix host and installs the
SFW frontend. At the end of the installation it throws up some R6034 runtime
errors. The SFW program then starts fine and displays an initial http based
web page splash with a login link, but trying to login to a unix host it either
crashes or loops back to the web page.

Summary: Metatrader 4 Crashes on scroll in Experts Tab of the
Terminal Section
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.38
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: adam(a)gallantfx.com
When Metatrader 4 has an additional DLL (Any external DLL from Any EA) it will
crash when the user attempts to scroll through the Experts list view in the
terminal section of the program.
Please follow this URL for the crash log generated by MT4:
http://dpaste.org/19AO/
At the same time wine will output the following and quit:
err:listview:LISTVIEW_WindowProc unknown msg 0400 wp=00000000 lp=00000000
I have been searching for over 12 hours trying to find similar reports as it
would seem to me that it should have come up before no luck.
Note that the bug will not cause the crash unless there are enough items in the
list view to allow scrolling and you may need to scroll up and down a few
times before this happens.
I have reproduced this both on x86-64 and x86 only systems
Ubuntu Karmic x86-64
Ubuntu Jaunty x86-64 and x86

Maybe it's due to x86-64, maybe I didn't follow exactly all the steps, maybe

This is a kernel limitation for which a patch seems to be available:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/v86-64/
That kernel patch also comes with a wine patch.
We may want to support it sometime.

Then start the app, add somebody to your list of contacts

The instant message window will appear, but will crash almost
immediately in xul.
This is a regression, probably from the new gecko; the crash does not
occur in 1.1.11.

problem?).

Summary: Extra scrollbars in Langenscheidt e-Dictionaries
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: thuerrschmidt(a)gmail.com
Langenscheidt e-Dictionaries is a reference application that is mainly used in
German-speaking countries, where it is called "Langenscheidt e-Wörterbücher".
It works rather well with Wine, so much so that it has currently Gold status in
the AppDB
(http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=10360).
However, a few issues remain that need to be sorted out.
One of these issues are the extra scrollbars around the main application area.
These can be seen clearly in the AppDB screenshot
(http://appdb.winehq.org/screenshots.php?iAppId=10360&iVersionId=). The
outermost horizontal and vertical scrollbars are not present when the
application runs in any version of Windows, and they have no useful purpose in
Wine. All they do is shift the main application area by one single pixel in
upward/downward or right/left direction, respectively. I find them distracting
when working with the application, and they take up valuable screen space on my
portable computer.
>From a few experiments that I have done, my guess is that there may be a
rounding error of some kind deep down in one of Wine's core libraries, possibly
a ceil() where native Windows uses a floor() or the other way round. This would
explain why the application has one pixel left over in each dimension when
calculating the geometry of this part of its application window and, as a
result, needs those extra scrollbars.
Another oddity, probably closely related, is that the publisher logo for the
current book, which is displayed in the upper right corner of the main
application area (in the screenshot it's a red and white Collins logo) is
partly outside the visible screen area and also outside the scrollable area.
This, however, changes as soon as the application window's initial maximized
state changes. In the de-maximized window the full logo becomes visible, and it
stays so even after the window is maximized again. This strange behavior too
does not occur in Windows, only in Wine.
Langenscheidt e-Dictionaries is currently available in version 4.0, revision
20.1 (whatever that means). It can be downloaded gratis (i.e. free-as-in-beer)
at http://www.langenscheidt.de/service/service_2784.html. Judging from the
libraries it comes with, it is written in Visual C++ 8.0 and heavily MFC-based.
The application functions as a front-end for a number of commercial electronic
dictionaries published by Langenscheidt and a few other German publishers.
These dictionaries come in a proprietary, closed format on CD-ROM or via paid
download and have to be installed locally into the e-Dictionaries application,
where they can be searched and accessed one at a time or all at once. There is
also limited support for custom dictionaries. Langenscheidt e-Dictionaries is
derived from its older, simpler (and in my view, better) predecessor
application called PC-Bibliothek (or PC-Library in English), which also runs
fine under Wine, but shows the exact same issues as described above. (To
complicate matters further, there's a third member in this family of
applications, called Office-Bibliothek, but that's not really relevant for this
bug.)
Setting up Langenscheidt e-Dictionaries in Wine can be a bit tricky. The
installer does not currently work (which is a separate issue that I won't go
into here), so the application has to be installed manually by extracting all
the right files from the unpacked installer exe to the right places. The
interface language is German by default, but you can switch it to English via
the menu (if you happend to find the right option among all the German). To see
the scrollbar bug in action you need to have at least one dictionary installed,
which you can get by creating a "user dictionary" and adding a few dummy
entries to it.
If there's a Wine developer who wants to try and fix this bug, you shouldn't
have to go through all this. Just give me a shout, and I'll provide you with a
fully functioning test kit that you can simply unpack and fire up immediately.
This shouldn't be a problem copyright-wise as the application itself is legally
downloadable for anybody from Langenscheidt's website (see link above) and I
won't share any actual dictionary content.

It seems to install ok, but when you start the app, it compains that jet40
is missing. This happens even with AF's workaround, sh winetricks wsh57 nt40.
Doing "winetricks jet40" before installing the app makes it run properly,
and the funny Progra~1 directory is not created.

Summary: kde 4 drag&drop not working (xdnd failure)

Wine log for xdnd
Operating System: Kubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4.1 / i386 / nvidia grafics
While running any wine-application its impossible to drag & drop files to. For
exampe: Starting up 'notepad.exe' from the wine package. Then drag&drop a text
file from konqueror or dolphin (both doesn't work) to the notepad-window. But
the file won open up in notepad; but then I got the message from notepad >"
could not be found<.
So what happened? On my old system with KDE 3.5.10, everything is working
fine... so i looked a bit closer and logged the output of wine for xdnd (see
attachement). The problem can be isolated to the following lines:
KDE 3.5.10 wine notepad.exe trace of xDND reveals:
trace:xdnd:X11DRV_XDND_SendDropFiles Sending WM_DROPFILES: hWnd(0x0x1002a)
0x1e524c(Z:\home\gizmo\test.txt)
But in KDE 4.1:
trace:xdnd:X11DRV_XDND_SendDropFiles Sending WM_DROPFILES: hWnd(0x0x1002a)
0x2454354() <= here missing target !!!
The bug occurs because the target (file) is missing at WM_DROPFILES.

Please someone fix this, because i concerns all wine application and leaves
them without drag&drop support on KDE 4. Thanks :-)

All previously working Wine versions now exhibit the problem. This happens with
Nvidia drivers 285.05.09 as well as with 290.06. I couldn't revert to Nvidia

I also tried recompiling Wine with former gcc (4.5.3) but the result was the
same.

The following is spammed once per second in game:
fixme:quartz:AsyncReader_FindPin (L"Output", 0x33f2e0)
Every time the game gains focus (after an alt tab, ...), sound starts back up
for a few milliseconds (maybe 150ms), and then is lost again.
There is no rendering nor sound when the game is not focused -- I believe
that's intended.
(Tentatively marking quartz)

No change as of wine-1.3.32-122-g2e5f73e: the game crashes when initiated from
the launcher unless I disable music in Settings.txt. Music is stored in mp3
format and I can play the files via Totem using the Gstreamer backend.
Native quartz + amstream dlls also act as a workaround for the initial crash,
but the game is way too slow to be playable and other issues also arise.
This bug also affects Space Empires: Star Fury.

When I install programs, specifically Ancestral Quest 12.1, PAF 5.2.18.0 or

fail, usually with a "file not found" error window. However, the desktop
shortcuts that the programs themselves install work just fine. In other words
this would be a severe problem IF the program didn't install its own shortcut.
I've tried this with Linux Mint 11 in both 32 and 64 bit installs and with a
latest version (in Sept) beta as well as 2 different versions from Mint's
repository. Currently I'm running 1.3.15.

Terminal output when Multimine crashes after following the above steps.
After doing the following steps, Multimine crashes and a backtrace and a memory
map appear on the terminal. If you follow the steps correctly, a dialog should
pop up saying "The program multimine.exe ... needs to close".
My distribution is openSUSE 11.3.
My kernel version is "2.6.34.8-0.2-default #1 SMP 2011-04-06 18:11:26 +0200"
The crash happens using the default settings in "winecfg".
This version of Wine is from the "wine-32bit-1.2-0.1.1.i586.rpm" package
available from http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.3/
To reproduce this:
1. Start two instances of Multimine
With the first multimine:
2. Select Game>Create Server
3. Click on Start Server
With the second multimine:
3. Select Game>Join Server
4. Click Join
5. Select Game>Exit from the menu of the first Multimine
6. Without acknowledging the "Server Closed" dialog, select Game>Exit from the
second Multimine
7. Close (don't kill) the "Join Server" dialog using the window manager.

The game becomes unresponsive when sounds are enabled and Alsa is set to full
hw. acceleration (default).
The easiest way to reproduce the issue in the demo by choosing <Credits> from
the main menu then click on <Close>. Another occurrence of the problem is when
you try to create a new game: the game hangs after you've entered the name of
your ship and commander.
Workaround: Alsa with 'emulation' mode.
Note #1 (when testing): in-game music must be disabled otherwise the game hits
bug #2748.
Note #2: if you encounter mostly black screen after starting the game you need
to change ORM to backbuffer.
To reproduce the problem in the demo:
1) Install the demo as usual.
2) Launch the demo by StarFury.exe the first time: this will create the
corresponding registry entry for the game. Quit the launcher and fire up
regedit. Look for the key under HKCU/Software/Malfador Machinations/Star Fury.
Change the value of 'Play Music' from true to false.
3) Launch the demo again (now with disabled music). In the main menu select
<Credits>. When you've seen enough of it click on <Close>: the game will hang.
The problem didn't occur in Wine-1.3.16:

I'm trying to pinpoint the way to close this bug... discussion is the best way
to write some more code.
How could this "ugly fix" be changed in a generic patch?
Should wine monitor the win32.application.screen and make the conversion to the
size of the active window?
Should wine implement a virtual graphic adapter (video card) driver to capture
what is painted directly to the screen? (the driver should be optional inside
the wine config)

Summary: FeedDemon wizard cannot check NewsGator account
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified

log of the first run of FeedDemon
Version is wine-1.1.27-40-g0c862de
Steps to reproduce:
1- clean wine prefix;
2- download FD 2.7 from URL above
3- install it (it finishes with few unimportant fixmes);
4- registrate an account on NewsGator;
5- run FD.
At the first run, you will be shown a wizard that checks your account and syncs
with its feeds, but it fails showing the err:ntlm:SECUR32_initNTLMSP and the
others.
I don't know which is the fatal error so i couldn't decide between secur32 or
wininet components.

screen shot of corrupted display
No idea how I would find if this is duplicated elsewhere, alas, as it doesn't
give me much to go on.. if so, perhaps some of the data is useful.
In Dark Age of Camelot, 1.98 Labyrinth, text displays (chat, combat window,
inventory screen, mouseovers, entry window, info splashes, but interestingly
NOT dialogue boxes that i've seen) become corrupted, seemingly at random though
using the mouse wheel to scroll the chat bar triggers the issue within a second
or two. each of the listed items is separate. The corruption in the inventory
window is distinctive involving miniature copies of the window contents.
No error in terminal screen associated with the bug, so I don't know enough to
diagnose it well enough to check what the bug status is.
Tested in Ubuntu 9.04 in 1.1.18,21,and 22 (I was unable to pass the login
screen with 1.1.23 - different bug)

It is possible to activate that "fancy shadows"(well, they are rendered in
realtime in contrast to the old ones) with latest Wine.
Sadly, they won't render correctly. The shadows are there, but not displayed
under the objects that should get the shadows. They are just floating in the
air. It gets even worse if you set the shadows to the maximum, enabling
building's shadows.
Attached is a screenshot showing the situation. The red circle shows my
character's one.

Summary: Ubuntu 8.04.2 (64bit), WINE 1.1.23 not opening any

Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.23

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tom(a)capi7.ca
After upgrading to 1.1.23, wine seemed to not work at all. I only use it for a
couple of applications, specifically a game for my wife called Scrubbles.
When trying to start the game, nothing happened, then a series of crash reports
started showing up on the desktop in ~1 minute intervals. I could not read the
contents at all, but you might be able to, so i ahve attached a copy of one.
I tried other wine-dependant apps and could not run them either so I
uninstalled 1.1.23 and installed the last good (for me) version 1.1.22 and
everything seems fine now.
Let me know if there is any other info needed and where to find it/how to
access it (in detail please).
Thanks.

Well, at least one factor is that it's from Anastasius, and Wine doesn't accept

seems to be a bug in wine's implementation.

Unlike bug #28731, this one is still present as of wine-1.3.30-205-g472a8f7.
Steps to reproduce the problem in the demo:
Install...launch. When the main menu appears select Single Player -> View Intro
>> you can't skip the intro movie.
Terminal output doesn't reveal anything interesting. Here I'm attaching a

pressing <Space> several times. Afterwards I killed the game immediately.

I'm pretty sure the game was still working on wine 1.1.2 and was broken shortly
after (this bug was already present in 1.1.7 IIRC and possibly before), but
I've upgraded my Ubuntu a while ago so I can't go back to that version (well
not without compiling stuff).
Both the demo and the full version are affected. I can't seem to figure out how
to connect this bug to Trickstyle in the appdb or mark this bug as a regression
so I hope that happens automatically or something. :-P

Running SeeYou (flight analysis software - www.naviter.si) and loading a flight
(IGC file) results in the map window showing but remaining blank.
Selecting the graphs or statistics file results in the window changing
appearance, but the main contents is never shown.
The mouse context changes correctly when moving the mouse around the window.
Right clicking brings up the correct menus, but when the menu is cancelled, it
remains on the screen.
It is almost although the application is not being notified that the window is
visible.
This application worked fine with previous versions of wine. However, I will
confirm with previous versions in due course.
If you need any additional information, let me know (and let me know how to get
it.) If you need an IGC file to try out yourself with this, I can supply one
too.
Thanks.

I run a Borland Delphi program that prerfoms 2 seeks in an dbase database and
puts text from the found record into a richedit control.
With that patch included, there is a delay of several seconds before each info
gets displayed and the CPU goes to 100% busy.
Reverting the patch 3b5e14a9b0a925052e2b1b71f76a7f1eff6d84bf removes the delay.

Terminal Output
Pretty much the same as bug #20789 (which got closed), but I've installed GTASA
on my linux partition this time.
Steps are almost the same:
1.: Install GTA SA from DVD into a directory of your choice (I've installed
into "~/.wine/drive_c/games/GTA San Andreas").
2.: Apply NOCD crack.
3.: Create Windows-links to your tracks into the GTA Userfolder (which
usually resists in "~/GTA San Andreas User Files/User Tracks/").
4.: Start GTASA by running the cracked gta_sa.exe:
cd "~/.wine/drive_c/games/GTA San Andreas/" && wine gta_sa.exe
5.: Goto the Options/Audio Menu, choose User Track Options
6.: Let the game scan your Tracks.
7.: Experience Crash (followed by an Errormessage from Wine).
Slightly different Terminal output has been attached.
Used Wine Version: 1.1.33.
Additional Notes:
The game itself runs just fine. Only searching for Usertracks fails.

This avoids either loading sysmem surfaces into video memory (wasting GPU
memory) and then doing a blit on the GPU, or downloading GPU surfaces to
sysmem, doing a blit on the CPU, and likely uploading it again. This mostly
matters for ddraw and d3d8 applications, d3d9 already has to go through
wined3d_device_update_surface() to transfer data from sysmem surfaces to
GPU

I am using with wine a custom-made program for windows which can produce a
page-like output for printing. I use the 'wineps printer using CUPS' for
generating postscript. This works, except one feature: whenever the page to be
printed contains vertical text from bottom to top, that one will print starting
at the right place but from top to bottom.
(If the text is a single letter, it is easy to correct in the output postscript
file-the lines
900 10 div matrix rotate
can be changed to
900 3.333 div matrix rotate
which fixes the problem. However, this simple trick will not work for a longer
text.)
The program is custom-made under Virtual Pascal, and the text is printed here
using the function CreateFontIndirect. For the screen, it is called
with lfEscapement=900; however, for printing, this has to be set to -900
because of reverse y coordinates. It seems that wine is not in line with this
convention of Windows...

I have a test program which prints out a monochrome and colored bitmap and some
text. It prints outs the monochrome image inverted and non inverted.
On windows this test app works as expected, it prints black drawings with white
background on none inverted page, white pixels and black background on inverted
pages. I tested this with PDFCreator and a real HP laserjet compatible printer.
Running this application on wine shows coloring problems (see appended
screenshots).
I have verified that this is not an os related problem by running this test on
two different opensuse linux machines, one with running version 11.2 and the
other opensuse 11.4. On both machines this problems occurs with slightly
different wrong colors (green on the other machine)
I created the appended pdf files on both machines using a generic postscript
level 2 printer driver and converted it to pdf with ps2pdf.

are also appended. The related gdi commands are located in the source at

Summary: μ-law rendering with pauses and repetitions
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.26

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: mmdevapi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
CC: aeikum(a)codeweavers.com
On MacOS, playing the 11kulaw.wav sample from the MCI shell causes intermittent
pauses (of variable duration, roughly ~0.5s). After each pause, sound does not
necessarily resume where it left off, but the audible output is correct (μ-law
was decoded).
MCI shell (bug #20232, comment #10): wine wintest.exe mcishell
open 11kulaw.wav alias u
play u from 0
close u
By contrast, rendering IMA_ADPCM works. The difference is that ADPCM goes
through Wine's codec, while μ-law is apparently handled by MacOS, as you can
tell from the missing
fixme:g711:G711_StreamSize
lines that appear on Linux (or in older versions of Wine on MacOS, e.g.
1.1.35).

One possible fix might be to have mmdevapi refuse all but linear PCM. Perhaps
this particular bug is nevertheless interesting because it might reveal faults
in the handling of the Mac OS audio units. After all, μ-law might be
transparent to the player because its samples/sec, blockalign etc. look exactly
like linear PCM.

Summary: BioEdit errors if datafile is closed
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.6
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

Program error Dialogue box
BioEdit gives an error when closing an open datafile. This error provides no
console output, just a dialogue box with the following message:
External exception: C000001D
After clicking "OK" the program continues to run. However, closing BioEdit
after this results in the attached dialogue box.
Afterwards there is console output (in attachment too).
Steps to reproduce:
Download and install BioEdit (http://www.mbio.ncsu.edu/BioEdit/bioedit.html);
Open a datafile (example datafile in attachment);
Close the datafile;
Close BioEdit.
Note: Do not use a very large datafile, or this will trigger bug 24960. The
example will work fine.

This causes a regression exhibited in the game "Prince of Persia 3D" as well as
the demo.
During the game, icons are displayed at the bottom of the screen indicating
health/weapon/etc. After the commit, the icons are surrounded by squares.
In virtual desktop mode only (not full screen mode), this commit does fix the
menus which flash/strobe what appears to be the previous contents of the
screen.
To recreate:
Download the demo, prince_of_persia_demo.zip, from one of the following URLs:

Log of crash
I upgraded from Wine 1.3.4 to Wine 1.3.5 recently, and when I tried to play
Guilty Gear X2 #Reload, it crashed when it tried to play the intro movies.
Before, it would just fail to play them and skip them.
This can be worked around by checking "Movie off" in the config, and it won't
try to play any movies at all.

Expected behaviour:
None of above things.
Additional information:
1) I use wine-1.3.15-297-gbd8b13a.
2) This is regression because it didn't happen in Wine 1.3.15.
3) Running AdMigrator.exe with Wine 1.3.15 doesn't help. Therefore regression
test would need me to re-install whole AutoCAD many times and I won't do this.
4) AdMigrator.exe complains when there is no dotnet20

This does not happen when running the application on Windows. 80090005 is
NTE_BAD_DATA.
The output from wine is attached when running:
WINEDEBUG=+relay,+crypt wine GearoticMotion.exe
This is running from an amd64 install of Gentoo linux, Wine is compiled with

This error is preventing the application from opening an encrypted license file
which causes it to think it is unregistered, disabling some key features. This
error is reproducible even with no license file.

Summary: Warcraft 3 disproportionately slow in d3d mode unless
RenderTargetLockMode=disabled
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.33
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Simon80(a)gmail.com
Under default settings, Warcraft 3 runs very slowly on my system, whose
hardware is more than capable of of running it without framerate issues. When
run in OpenGL mode, the game runs smoothly without exception (60fps), but there
are probems with the rendering. In Direct3D mode, it renders correctly, but the
framerate is very low, under 15 fps. In the search for a playable
configuration, I discovered that setting
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D:RenderTargetLockMode to disabled
results in much better framerates, around 30 fps. This isn't as good as the
OpenGL mode, but is still playable, and I didn't notice any rendering problems.
I tried some of the other possibilities (textex, readtex, texread, I think),
and the performance was just as slow.
I also discovered just now that Warcraft 3 has a registry setting,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III\Video:lockfb,
which acts similarly (defaults to on, and when set to 0, performance becomes
acceptable). If neither of those two values are disabled, then performance is
disproportionately slow on this hardware.
I can grab debug output on request.
