Summary: Halo CE's built-in chat does not work.
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.26
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: vladimiroski(a)gmail.com
When you're playing you usually press "T" or "H" to get a one-line chat prompt.
Problem is that you can't see what you're typing. Neither what others say.
I'll play with a friend to ask if he can see what I send (I'll just type
something and then press enter to send the message), as I think it's just a
problem with the text drawing.
This text is the only with a font one in pure white color, maybe it's related
to it or some missing font?.
What could I do to help debugging this?.

ReportedBy: jimmy(a)boombatower.com
Runes of Magic still installs using the method described on the winehq page,
but no longer loads.
I have it working on my laptop which runs WINE 1.1.33, but it fails on my
desktop with same distro and version except WINE 1.1.34. This has also been
confirmed by a number of comments from users.
The game window opens and remains black for a long time (like usual, even on
Windows), then you hear the music and then in WINE 1.1.33 you see the main
screen. As of WINE 1.1.34 this does not seem to happen after several minutes.
Let me know if there is anything else I can provide, possibly install devel
libs and dumb some debug?

I am new to Linux operating system so please bear with me if my explanation or
details shown below are not specific enough.
Description of problem
Spore shows black screen on start up. No Graphics, No Sound and No Cursor
displayed.
Installation process worked OK with no errors.
Software/Hardware
Wine 1.1.42
Spore 1 - Installed from DVD. (I am currently using the Correct No-CD to get
around the DVD not recognised issue).
Latest Graphics driver for Intel 945GM built in card.
32 bit Ubuntu 10.04 Operating System. (Also tried using previous Ubuntu 9.10
with no luck).
Dell Latitude D620 Laptop.
Other Details
I have tried to fix this issue using information from other bug reports with no
luck, details are shown below:
1. Changed the following Registry entries:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software, Wine, Direct 3D.
DirectDrawRederer = opengl.
OffscreenRenderingMode = backbuffer.
UseGLSL = disabled.
I have also tried using OffscreenRederingMode = fbo and had same error.
2. I have run the software from terminal using the -safe flag and got the
following message:
fixme:thread:SetThreadIdealProcessor (0x64): stub
fixme:thread:SetThreadIdealProcessor (0x6c): stub
after this message the terminal seems to wait and do nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this issue ?
Thanks

The program is called Exercitia Latina and it seem to work alright until I
updated to 1.1.29.
There is a section where you type in the appropriate word or phrase and hit
enter and you move to the next line if you are correct.
This worked alright in 1.1.28, but 1.1.29 opens an error dialog upon hiiting
the enter key that states "No MCI Device Open" and I am not able to move on.
I reverted back to 1.1.28 and it works again.
This is reproducable and happens on my girlfriends computer as well (fresh
kubuntu install virtualized using virtualbox on an OSX host) where the problem
was first observed.
I added an attachment of the basic wine output.
I can also try to attach a full WINEDEBUG=+relay or any other debug outputs as
well if desired.

After running winecfg Drives->Show Advanced to set drive Type, wine versions

confirmed by tracing through wine debug.
For example, run winecfg, choose Drives tab, Add.., D: drive, Show Advanced,
Path:/some-normal-directory-path, Type: CD-ROM
The D: drive is not detected as CD-ROM but rather as a normal disk.
Also confirmed with Type: Local using a path that is a bind mount point (not
even a network mount), and it detects as remote drive rather than local drive.
This is confirmed from version 1.1.7 to 1.1.12 (not sure after that).

history. Custom game mouse pointer hadn't been rendered at all until pretty
recent Wine version (more info available in bug #24956).

After studying a bit of the X server and searching for a way to create a global
keyboard hook in X I believe that what wine is doing currently is the best we
can have and I personally consider this bug fixed.
I searched several forums and lists and everyone has the same answer that it's
not possible to create a global hook to get keyboard keys in X server because
each application has it's own message queue, differently from windows that have
only one queue (or am I wrong?).
The current wine implementation get keys/clicks from the focused wine window
and is able to share them with all other opened wine windows.
My demo application is in the comment above if anyone have some time to test.

If that's the case then it didn't setup the capabilities correctly. Provided
that you compiled Wine and installed it to the "standard" prefix then this
should do it:
sudo setcap cap_net_raw+epi /usr/local/bin/wine-preloader
If you installed Wine somewhere else then you'll need to replace
"/usr/local/bin/wine-preloader" with the correct path. If you don't know what
that path is then you can search your computer for the wine-preloader binary.
> ...
> May I be missing something?
Apparently that application is a little noise, this should focus in on the
right information:
WINEDEBUG="+winsock" wine NameOfApplication.exe 2>&1 | grep interface_bind
However, if I'm right (above) then that's just going to tell you that the
CAP_NET_RAW capability is not set.

Hmmm... The patch should be used by itself, could you check that the
capabilities are set correctly? If you run " sudo getcap `which
wine-preloader` " it should return:
/usr/local/bin/wine-preloader = cap_net_raw+eip
Also, if you run the application like so:
WINEDEBUG="+winsock" wine NameOfApplication.exe
then it should report an explanation that ends with "broadcast packets will not
work on this socket" if something detectable went wrong.

I figured that it would be good to let the console-informed user know that the
feature is unsupported, but to only do so if the passed address actually
corresponds to one of the network adapters.

the support may be not available?
Isn't it better to simply:
+#ifdef SO_BINDTODEVICE
+ else if (interface_bind(fd, &uaddr.addr))
+ {
+ /* Bound to a specific interface, change the binding
+ * address so that broadcast packets work properly */
+ in4->sin_addr.s_addr = htonl(WS_INADDR_ANY);

+#endif /* SO_BINDTODEVICE */
Or maybe the code did something I didn't see in case it's not supported.

Created attachment 36613
--> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=36613
Patch to selectively bind while still allowing broadcasts [alternative]
Ok folks, I have an alternative solution to this bug based on the old
SO_BINDTODEVICE socket option. As we're all likely aware, SO_BINDTODEVICE
requires administrative access. However, SO_BINDTODEVICE can also be used if
the running process has the CAP_NET_RAW capability set. So, to use the
attached patch:
1) apply patch
2) compile and install wine
3) add the CAP_NET_RAW capability to the preloader:
sudo setcap cap_net_raw+epi `which wine-preloader`
4) run the application that requires interface-specific binding
Unfortunately, this solution will only work on Linux (unlike my other
solution). However, I believe that Alexandre might find this solution more
palatable than my previous attempt. If everyone affected could please review
and test the attached patch then I would greatly appreciate it.

Well, the CreateTypeLib problem is still present, the vbscript parser bug is
another problem and should get it's own bug report.
But considering that vbscript is very much WIP at the moment, it might be
better to wait a few weeks.

The problem is the CreateTypeLib call.
Forwarding it to CreateTypeLib2 makes it work without a problem, but the actual
on-disk file format will be different, so i'm not sure if this acceptable as a
general solution.
There is now also a vbscript engine in wine, but right now, it produces a
parser error.

I don't know if it should be marked as Fixed or not.
The drawing of the bitmap has improved substantially but it still shows some
green/blue lines around the shadow (when it should just be black/gray).
I'm attaching a screenshot. I'm using 1.3.29, which is the latest git afaik.

Prioritize focus for dialog owner on EndDialog
(In reply to comment #28)
> ... I don't have a copy of OrCad anymore ...
Oooo - I found my old installer for the 10.5 demo.
It turned out that my theory was totally bogus; however, I do believe I've
tracked down the problem. It appears that when a dialog is created with an
owner that that owner should receive the focus when the dialog closes <even if
the owner is disabled> (normally disabled windows do not receive focus). I
would appreciate it if someone would be so kind as to test placing a part with
the attached patch (includes a test case!) and let me know how it works out.

Created attachment 36592

Proposed patch
This is a patch I wrote which fixes both the menu text colors and the "acid
trip" color problems in the Age of Empires II demo. The problem was centered
around the following code in X11DRV_DIB_GetImageBits_8:
/*
* Hack for now
* This condition is true when GetImageBits has been called by
* UpdateDIBSection. For now, GetNearestIndex is too slow to support
* 256 colormaps, so we'll just use it for GetDIBits calls.
* (In some cases, in an updateDIBSection, the returned colors are bad too)
*/
if (!srccolors) goto updatesection;
When this statement was removed, the bugs went away but the performance
suffered. To fix the performance, I rewrote X11DRV_DIB_GetNearestIndex to
optimize for colors that are exact matches of the colors in the color map. This
optimization works excellently for Age of Empires II and should work well for
other applications also. I made a minor change to X11DRV_DIB_DoCopyDIBSection
to slightly improve performance as well.
Please let me know how this patch works for you. I would love to see it
accepted into WINE.

With Tomb raider Anniversary && Legend, there's some bink video for intros and
inside games. When these videos are played, I noticed some graphical corruption
and performance issues (massive slowdown).
Currently I'm using wine 1.3.23, but I remember (very) old versions of wine
that did not have these problems. I found bug #3112 on the same subject.
I tried to install the Tomb Raider Legend demo [1] into a new WINEPREFIX, to
see if I can reproduce. With this demo, I found another funny issue : when
launching the demo, the bink video intro is played, I can hear the music, but
the screen is completely black. This does not happen with the retail version (I
do have only graphical corruption with retail).

So, has anyone tried moving the WINPOS_ActivateOtherWindow call before the call
to SetWindowPos? (I don't have a copy of OrCad anymore, just going through my
list of open CCd bugs) If I had to guess, I'd say that OrCad is trapping the
WM_WINDOWPOSCHANGING call, changing the active window, and then we end up
overriding it with WINPOS_ActivateOtherWindow.

It works with the registry setting VideoMemroySize=16 AND using Windows version

If you read comments 72 and 74 above, you'll see the chances of this bug being
fixed are very small.

Revisiting this bug today (friday 23 of september, 2011) I have not other other
choice than agree with Dan Kegel. Actually is getting extremely hard to buy a
DirectX9.c graphic card unless you dig in a bargain bin or get some relic on
Ebay. I believe that is safe now to let this bug go, and WONTFIX seems fine
now. Let the dead bury the dead...

Summary: handle_underrun=1 hack causes IMMDevice::Activate to
fail with PulseAudio
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.26
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winealsa.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

Given Andrew's past 1.3.25
commit 9ad60d1d143809c6ae477eb53e75c3dc93736e0e
Date: Fri Aug 5 09:33:10 2011 -0500
winealsa.drv: Inject handle_underrun=1 setting for pulse-backed devices.
IMMDevice_Activate now fails when pulse is the default device. As a result,
mmdevapi is unusable (=> no more sound) and unwary apps like
dlls/mmdevapi/tests/render.c:test_session crash. dmix still works.
The console log is:
ALSA lib pcm_pulse.c:855:(_snd_pcm_pulse_open) Unknown field handle_underrun
warn:alsa:AUDDRV_GetAudioEndpoint Unable to open PCM "default": -22 (Invalid
argument)
render.c:141: Test failed: Activation failed with 80004005
I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid. Please don't tell me to update. That is not the
solution.
Probably the interim hack should check the effect and revert to standard
behaviour/configuration in case of an error.

Description:
Riven is an adventure game, originally released in 1997. In the game you can
change locations by moving the mouse pointer to the edges of the screen and
pressing LMB. The game offers 3 settings for screen transitions (fastest,
normal and best); they alter how smoothly the transitions take place.
The problem:
When I'm turning left or looking upwards, the screen gets garbled (see attached
screenshot). Interestingly, transitions to other directions (right, forwards,
downwards) work correctly.
No demo available.
Workaround: disable screen transitions in the option menu.
This feature worked in 1.3.28 but not in the current git

When I quit the application, I get a popup saying "Unexpected and unrecoverable
error. Would you like to save a diagnostic file?" Clicking Yes will save the
file properly. Clicking No opens a Program Error window saying
"The program TextPad.exe has encountered a serious error and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience.
This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in Wine..."
Clicking Close returns me to the first popup. Sometimes the Ubuntu Force Quit

Hi,
There is a problem with this game since many versions of wine.
The game runs completly without problem but there is a graphical bug when the
character is in the Kingdoms.
In the 4 city : Damas, Jerusalem, Acre and Masyaf, there isn't this problem,
the ground is visible correctly.
You can see the log, it's always the same message, there is nothing else.

In X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, entering a mission pops up a box with the error
"Direct Input Create FAILED" and no inputs are recognized. (The game requires a
joystick, which I have confirmed is on /dev/input/js0) Neither keys nor
joystick inputs are recognized, except the space bar key which seems to move
the game clock along. This is a regression in 1.3.26, since in the current
stable version of Wine (1.2.3) the game runs without flaw.

Summary: EVE online planets and planetary interaction icons
fail to render correctly after 1.1.41
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.41
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rcxdude(a)gmail.com
after wine 1.1.41, planets in EVE online (and some other effects) do not render
correctly - instead of an atmospheric glow a flat colour is shown. This is not
particularly important but in the latest test version of the client the icons
for the new planetary interaction feature do not appear at all, making this
part of the game unplayable.
I was able to bisect this to the commit:
[4cd69b8a097f16012f5c6ba3a6237df3495fba97] wined3d: Simplify the generated GLSL
for NRM.
and reversing the changes made there on the latest version of wine in git fixed
both the planet's atmospheres and the icons.
However, this appears to be graphics card dependent. I am using an NVIDIA
7950GT, while this bug was reported not to appear to occur on an NVIDIA GTX 275
(at least the planetary interaction icons appeared)
I have no idea what the above change does, but it appears to be incorrect in
some cases.

This has been an issue for many players and seems to be draging even from fglrx

This is a follow-up to bug 23472, for the following installer:

After selecting a program to install and completing the download process, the
installer fails with "an unknown error occurred". The exact procedure I've used
is this:
1. Run winetricks dotnet30
2. Set Windows version to Win7 in winecfg
3. Run the installer, selecting any one program
4. Wait for the download to complete, and the error should appear

Hello,
I am trying to run Gothic 3 1.7 on wine-1.1.17 using Ubuntu 8.10 (amd64).
My video card is: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M
Nvidia driver version: 180.29
I tried multiple OffscreenRenderingMode settings but all have graphic issues.
I will attach a screenshot of each.
The first screenshot shows the issues that occur when no OffscreenRenderingMode
has been set in the registry.

Summary: Eve Online: Incursion 1.x doesn't start with fglrx
8.81.5 (catalyst 11.1)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.13
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3dx9
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: vladimir(a)slate-project.org
CC: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Steps to reproduce:
1) Install Catalyst 11.1 driver (released 27th Jan '11)
2) Install EVE Online Incursion 1.1 from their website
3) Install corefonts from winetricks
4) Launch EVE online, and get a crash just after it loads the jukebox, with a
stacktrace leading to fglrx_dri.so
System information:
Ubuntu 10.10, kernel 2.6.35-26, wine 1.3.13 from the wine PPA on launchpad
Radeon HD5870 1GB, AMD Phenom X6 1050T
I did get EVE to launch on both 1.1.1 and 1.1.1 client update while following
the information in
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1464799&page=1#3 but
once it updated to client update 2 it didn't work any more, no matter how I
tweaked settings.
To clarify, EVE started up with 1.1.0 version and a vanilla wine setup with the
following winetricks things:
corefonts
ddr=opengl
glsl-disable
orm=fbo
winxp
gecko
vcrun2005
I will be trying to reinstall again and see precisely which configuration seems
to work. In no way however does EVE run for me just with corefonts installed.
Attached is the first and last 1000 lines of the log. The whole log was
obtained by running:
export WINEDEBUG="+dinput,+d3d9,+d3dx"
env WINEPREFIX="${HOME}/.wine" wine explorer /desktop=EVE1,1920x1080
C:\\Program\ Files\\CCP\\EVE\\eve.exe

In fact, the bug 7563 is unrelated. It was just a test to prove a theory where
the video driver is affecting different bugs.
I can run Dink Smallwood without any problems in a intel video board, while
users with Nvidia boards can't.
And users with Nvidia cards can run the program from bug 7563, while intel
video users can't.
Thank you so much, Gyb.

Austin, this is the second time you pass ahead of me when I'm checking a bug
state )))
Fixed for me as well though.
I found a regression - since some recent wine version the game shows black
screen in full screen mode unless "true color" option is ticked.
About to file a new bug.
Another regression - common ddraw performance decreased a great deal.

I guess it's a wine mapping issue because I've never been able to run anything
in wine+dosbox outside drive C. When the path is outside drive C wine should
wine mount drive C as usual and then mount a drive D with the outside path?
It's important to remember that dosbox has an internal drive Z, so wine should
not try to mount the outside path over it.

or from a directory with a space in the name?

Are you running the game from inside drive C? Sometimes I have problems with
dosbox+wine if the game is not in drive c or is in a path with spaces in the
name.

For me with dosbox no problem.
But crash when using through wine. When using wine, dosbox is called. I can see
the dosbox logo. But then, the wine winodws disappears. Strange

Confirming that this is still an issue on wine-1.3.28, and that wine was
deleting the LSANS.fot file - assigning the original .ttf to root so Wine
couldn't delete it made it work.
It was saying:
fixme:font:CreateScalableFontResourceW (0,L"LSANS.fot",L"C:\\Program
Files\\Infogrames Interactive\\Civilization III\\Conquests\\LSANS.TTF",(null)):

Bruno, lets try with "+all" log.
I've tried looking at the log in comment 10 , but after decompressing it the
data after line #50195 seems to contains ~41 megs of zeros (while the total log
is ~50 megs). Even vim chokes on that=)
Hopefully new log will be easier to read.

I tried with version wine-1.3.28. However, the program crashed when running the
installer and also when with the program itself. Maybe something broke the
win16 support. Actually, who crashes is winevdm.exe. I also tested with 1.3.12,
with a clean wine prefix, and got the same problem.
I'm running 64-bit OS but my wine is 32-bit. The exception is:
Unhandled exception: denormal float operand in 32-bit code (0x7e9dac77).
However, the Topdraw is a 16-bit application.
Maybe Austin English is still able to run it and test as he already tested with
1.3.17.

On a windows 7 machine, from c:\windows\syswow64, I copied iexpress.exe and
en-us\iexpress.exe.mui to a linux machine, preserving the directory structure.
Running 'wine iexpress.exe' results in a 1x50px window with no contents (an
interactive wizard should have been shown).
running 'wine iexpress.exe /help' results in an empty MessageBox with the error
icon (a usage message should have been shown).

Summary: EngineSite segfaults (Segmentation fault)
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
URL: http://luckasoft.com/download/perle_le.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Keywords: regression
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gdi-(printing)
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: xerox_xerox2000(a)yahoo.co.uk
A user reported trouble with this app in this thread:
http://groups.google.nl/group/comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine/browse_thread/…
I tried it , and it just segfaults after the splash screen. However , in
wine-0.9.2 it gets nicely beyond the spash screen, and seems to start fine.
I'll put some more info into this bug later on

Yeah, the basic dib engine is there now. Any problems
or inadequacies in it deserve new bugs.
