With wine-1.1.35, when starting a new game in Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, an
intro cinematic is supposed to be rendered, but instead, the cinematic is drawn
as black for the entire duration, although in-game rendering seems fine. A
related problem occurs with the Eidos logo animation shown when starting the
game, where it is drawn extremely slow. Testing showed that rendering worked in
wine-1.0, and regression testing revealed:

wined3d: Save some memory in vertex buffers.
In most cases we're fine with the vbo and glMapBuffer and never use the
actual
heap memory copy. Try to stick to just the vbo copy and avoid allocating
the
extra heap memory. In case it is needed(emulation or vertex conversion),
fall
back to the old double buffering mode.

Summary: Wine running out of address space (MacOS)
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.5
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
This is the MacOS variant of bug #13335: mmap failures on 32bit Mac OS X 10.5.8
+ NVidia
After upgrading my Mac from 1GB RAM to 4GB, Lego Star Wars 2 started crashing
in Wine-1.1.24 after a variable amount of play time. The error always starts
with:
wine(6017,0xa022e720) malloc: *** mmap(size=16777216) failed (error code=12)
*** error: can't allocate region
*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug
This is repeated 6/8/10 times, size always 16MB, followed by a crash like:
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x0000003c at address 0x7305cadb
(thread 0018), starting debugger...
The backtrace shows nothing particular.
The machine is an "early 2009" Mac mini 2GHz core duo with Nvidia 9400 graphics
processor. Using Mac OS X 10.5.8 and XQuartz 2.3.3.2. So this is a strict 32bit
system.
The crashes occur sometimes after half an hour, sometime after an hour of game
play. I'm pretty confident that the RAM upgrade is the cause because
- no SW upgrade of any kind was done around that time
(let's hope I got no trojan),
- I'm using LSW2 in wine-1.1.24 with a prefix distinct from
my git snapshot work,
- the app has been very stable in the past (the children played for hours),
- another app started failing as well (see next comment),
- syslogs prove the mmap failures began following the RAM upgrade,
- the crashes appear in levels the children played in the past, not new ones,
- such a huge RAM upgrade affects the memory mapping. Among others, the Nvidia
chip is said to make use of more main memory when the machine has more than 1GB
RAM (256MB? instead of 128MB).
Obviously the machine is not running out of memory. It now has more than
before. Instead, I believe this confirms the hypothesis about running out of
address space, c.f. R. Colenbrander in bug #13335, comment #96.
I have no reasons to believe that the new RAM is faulty. The machine is very
stable and only 2 apps in Wine are affected. I'm not going to remove the RAM
because of the effort it was to open the Mac mini box (the back sat so tight
that you couldn't slide in a putty knife, not even a sheet of paper).
Perhaps somebody knows a SW tool that can simulate a Mac equipped with 1GB RAM
only?
Few people ever reported the dependency of the mmap failure on the amount of
RAM. http://forums.adobe.com/message/1875853 mentions a perhaps similar failure
with native Photoshop.
Because of bug #22029 I cannot test the app in current Wine. It's unfortunate
that this mmap issue affects wine-1.1.24 because this release was excellent at
3D games with the 1GB Mac Mini.

It looks like an argument between len and null-terminated strings.
RtlQueryRegistryValues calls a user-supplied callback whose first
parameter is to a nul-terminated string... but it passes pInfo->Name,
which is not nul-terminated. (It comes from NtEnumerateValueKey,
and has a corresponding NameLength member.)
So... either we need to copy Name to a new buffer and terminate
it before calling the callback, or NtEnumerateValueKey needs
to silently nul-terminate Name. I guess it's time for another
conformance test.
(This error was seen before by Valgrind, but with a slightly
less informative description.)

Hi,
this is a cleaned up version of the issues first described in
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14038.
Game affected: Max Payne 2 (demo version tested)
Issue: MP2 uses some fullscreen post-processing effects to enhance gaming
experience. The famous bullet time effect is using a sepia tone filter, which
breaks on wine when certain ingame options are set.
MP2 offers two modes of post-processing effect quality (switching them
completly off is also possible):
(i) medium -> the sepia filter works
(ii) high -> sepia filter breaks
Notice that MP2 also uses some other PP (post-processing) effects, like a
motion blur filter in cutscenes. The filter from the cutscenes is NOT affected
by this issue described here, although it also affects the entire screen.
The issue also appears with wine-0.9.56.
Issue is gone when going back to wine-0.9.45, but the rendered area is now
confined in a rectangular portion of the visible screen. (read more about this
at the end (*))
Regression testing turned up this commit:
[d09cbcec91561186bee77aaba55b29cbf2d7e7ef] wined3d: Activate
GL_ARB_texture_rectangle.
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=shortlog;h=d09cbcec91561186bee77aa…
Notice the other five wined3d commits by Stefan Dösinger.
Somehow using ARB_tex_rect instead of using NP2 emulation breaks the sepia
filter, but leaves the motion blur intact.
In fact this commit does also correct "scaling" issues with the other PP
effect, motion blur (again see below (*)).
My wine settings for MP2:
UseGLSL=disabled
OffscreenRenderingMode=backbuffer
RenderTargetLockMode=auto
It doesn't matter though is ORM is set to backbuffer or fbo, the issue also is
reproducible with ORM=fbo. However testing this with ORM=backbuffer makes it
easier for me because of other issues with FBO (plus FBO generates a lot of
FIXME noise on the console).
Graphics hardware used to confirm:
(i) Me, using a Geforce FX 5900
(ii) Frank Roscher, using a Geforce FX 5700
Drivers versions:
(i) FX 5900 driven with 100.14.19 and 173.14.09 (makes no difference)
(ii) FX 5700 driven by driver version 169.12
(*) Interesting facts with wine-0.9.45:
Like I said above PPE set to high work with this version, but the rendered area
is suffering from "scaling issues". This can be reproduced all the time with
the bullettime filter.
However there are also the cutscenes, using the motion blur filter. The funny
thing there is that they are also affected by the scaling issue, BUT not
always.
Watch the first cutscene sequence after you gain control over Max in the
hospital room (the cutscene begins when you are right in front of the double
door). The scaling issue changes during the cutscene to correct rendering, and
back after some moments.
I don't know if the changes from "wrong scaling" to "correct scaling" and
vice-versa are always the same but I'm going to check that again.
Greets,
Tobias

I have found here a quit strange bug. Some objects in the game are on a wrong
position or floating around.
I don't use mods or something else like MWSE or so and I noticed the problem in
the Morrowind GotY.
I have one exception(related to mods): In the Morrowind-TCs Arktwend and Myar
Aranath are the same problem so maybe it is a engine related problem but this
is only a guess.
I attached an a terminal output from running Morrowind with wine an have a link
for 2 pictures to show the problem in-game.Maybe it is useful...

I don't know why =( Maybe it's a difference in X version or even graphic board.
I retested today using the latest git and the crash remains. My test is quite
simple, the app does not need installation so I create a clean prefix and run

I tried it with the latest version of AirRivals.
It's a pain.
The first problem is the API emulation function. (HackShield error 101)
HackShield copies part of certain API functions to a private buffer and
obfuscates them (interleaving garbage instructions and jmps, shuffeling around
registers and so on). This falls over with PIC code.
__i686.get_pc_thunk.bx sets $ebx to the module offset, but usually $ebx is
preserved for stdcall functions, so HackShield gets confused and clobbers it.
This happens at least for RtlAllocateHeap, GetCommandLineA and RegOpenKey.
This also breaks relay badly.
Compiling adavapi32, kernel32 and ntdll as non-pic code fixes this.
Add something like this to Makefile.in:
+EXTRADLLFLAGS = -fno-pic
+MODCFLAGS = -fno-pic
The next problem is even uglier:
HackShield copies ntdll.dll, kernel32.dll, user32.dll, ws2_32.dll and the
psapi.dll from the HShield directory to some Temp location, modifies them in
some way and tries to LoadLibrary them.
This fails badly on wine, because the files in system32 are only placeholder
dlls for the actual .so files. That's pretty hard to even hack around.

I can run examples from main entry and comment #4 inside the IDE in 1.3.26. I
can also compile both examples with a small fix.
The error happens because vbKeyEscape is not found but this is another bug
because one of the completion libraries was not loaded... Changing it to 27
fixes the problem (although there's an error in the condition anyway allowing
any key press to stop the demo).
Can anyone (specially Dan) retest it?

No, this is the same symptom described in comment 14. This is a result of a
difference between Windows and Linux: in Windows, you need no special
privilege to send ICMP echos, while in Linux you do. We can't "fix" it at
runtime. I believe the current recommended approach is to use something like
xattrs in your filesystem to allow an executable to have CAP_ICMP, but I
haven't tried.

If it's really because we don't read from the screen when locking the primary
surface, that could be a problem. In theory, we can do something like that in
virtual desktop mode without ill effects (assuming it's implemented more
cleanly and we can implement LockWindowUpdate), but performance may be bad.
Anyway, the thing we need to avoid (to be a good X citizen) is writing directly
to the screen, not reading from it. If we're already writing the screen
directly, well, we shouldn't be, but we can get away with leaving that as is.

Let's discuss how to implement this into wine then.
We understand that windows 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, and xp uses direct
rendering without compositing window manager.
We also undertand that microsoft decided that window manager was the new
default for windows vista & 7... and that a normal user could not disable it...
unless he terminates explorer.exe while he plays his game (starcraft)...
I'm thinking we should consider an approach like a dosbox frontend for old
school programs (games mostly)...
Maybe we should implement a hack in winecfg only for diablo 1 / warcraft2 &
starcraft (enabling the patch every time the game is started)
or
Maybe we should implement a hack in winecfg for ignoring Alexandre who is a
good X citizen ?!?

something that one of their developers referred to as "raw mouse input stuff"
in this post on the official Anarchy Online forums:
http://forums.anarchy-online.com/showpost.php?p=5917231&postcount=10
The result is that now it is impossible to use the left mouse button to look or
right mouse button to steer in Anarchy Online.

Summary: [Regression] Sound in Wine stopped working at all
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.26
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winealsa.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: goodgod261(a)wp.pl
Regression SHA1: 9ad60d1d143809c6ae477eb53e75c3dc93736e0e
First of all, I'm new to Linux, new to Wine and I don't speak English very
well, so I ask you to be tolerant.
Sound in my Wine stopped working. I tried changing the sound driver or its
settings, but nothing has changed, so I've done regression test and found out
that 9ad60d1d143809c6ae477eb53e75c3dc93736e0e ("winealsa.drv: Inject
handle_underrun=1 setting for pulse-backed devices.") was the first bad commit.
The program I have used in this test was XMPlay, however, sound doesn't work
even in winecfg built-in test.
In fact, I am able to force sound in XMPlay by changing device in its settings
from "Wine Sound Mapper" to "HDA Intel - ALC889 Analog". The only problem is
that it seems to "block" PulseAudio (again, I don't really know how it works)
and all its sounds.
Even if it's not my fault, I guess it's hardware-specific problem, so I'm
reporting bug with normal priority.
Once again, I ask you to be tolerant.

This is a follow up of bug 25717.
As noted there, commit cd96c59d9168fbda25536d328edb24c0bc0e5139 (wined3d: Track
framebuffer changes.) caused a regression, in that certain elements aren't
drawn if fbo is used, while they're still displayed correctly with backbuffer.
The game in question spits following warnings repeatedly, regardless of commit,
that caused the regression:

The patch isn't merged because it is wrong. The COM implementation in dsound is
pretty bad. So bad that until now I excluded it from my COM cleanup work.
Most likely the correct fix is to merge struct IKsBufferPropertySetImpl into
struct IDirectSound3DListenerImpl (and a couple of other COM objects too) and
clean it up as per http://wiki.winehq.org/ComCleanup . Eventually I will get to
this too with my COM cleanup but I'll avoid that piece of beauty as long as I
can...

Well; me I've got no idea if this is a bug or just bizarre IBM/Lotus

cd; wine start org5.exe

this is expected (can be disabled in options).

First of two patches to temporary work around the problem
Since I upgraded to wine 1.3.25, the cursor in Uru - Complete Chronicles (demo:

A bisect gave this commit as first bad one (so I added Huw to CC):
commit d4076d438cb5ff05f6800cdaae7ac88844e70595

The two patches I am going to attach fix the issue for me by reverting that

wineoss.drv is still there, though it will no longer build with anything older
than OSSv4. Someone should test on an OSSv4 system to see if the problem still
occurs. If, after a reasonable amount of time nobody steps up to do that then
ABANDONED would seem like the correct resolution.

The wine version for this bug is actually 0.9.59, but as of the time of
writing, this version is not available from the select box.
This bug is about the overall slow game performance of Call of Cthulhu (
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=3981
), compared to the same game with the same settings under Windows Vista.
Overall, the game is at least twice as slow, as compared to Vista, maybe more.
The test machine is a core 2 duo @ 2.20 GHz, with an 8400M GS video card, with
an nvidia driver version of 100.14.19. The same settings are used on both wine
and vista. The the resolution is set to 1600x1200, and the other graphics
related setting, the AA, is set to None.

Summary: Mis-spelling of "lose" when quitting Wine
Product: Wine

Platform: x86
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.6
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: winehq(a)xboxrepair.plus.com
When Wine is closed down, the following message appears:-
You are about to quit Wine.
This will terminate all running windows programs.
You will loose any unsaved data.
The third word on the third line should be "lose", not "loose". Maybe
"windows" (second line) should have a capital W as well, but then again it's
probably supposed to have a ™ at the end as well!
For reference, this is a Wine installed together with Winebottler 1.1.44 and
auto-updated to 1.2. The same spelling mistake appears on both versions. I
assume it's an issue with Wine and not Winebottler, but if I'm wrong please
accept my apologies.

When you run The Bat! version 4.2.6 it won't start because of a security lib
Ritlabs uses for The Bat! 4.1x upwards from Themida. The error message is
Themida - "Cannot open oreans.vxd driver. Make sure that oreans.vxd is not open
by another program"
This happens with my self compiled Wine 1.1.24 and prebuilt versions of
(Dar)Wine 1.1.21 and 1.1.23. Googling seems to show that this is only an issue
for Wine on OS X and the Themida/Oreans stuff.

This is my first time using Wine, and it works great for just about everything.
But the original reason I downloaded it was to play one of my favorite MMOs,
Rumble Fighter, which I got from here:
http://rf.ogplanet.com/downloads/game.asp
It downloaded, installed, updated, and ran perfectly right up to the login
screen. The login button doesn't work. I noticed that it says "This service
is for North America users only. Thanks for your interest." at the top of the
window. I don't know why, as I live in Shoreline Washington, and my computer
is set to US time. I have the most recent version of Wine.

Summary: UseGLSL=disabled stops FIFA WM 2006 with vertex shader

CC: stefandoesinger(a)gmx.at
With UseGLSL="disabled", FIFA WorldCup 2006 freezes with a black screen as a
zillion GL_INVALID_OPERATION scroll by.
Noteworthy log messages at the beginning are:
fixme:d3d_shader:shader_arb_generate_vshader HW VertexShader Error at position
0: "Error on line 28: missing comma (hint: '[')"
fixme:d3d_draw:drawStridedFast >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502)
from glDrawElements @ drawprim.c / 50
fixme:d3d_shader:shader_arb_generate_vshader HW VertexShader Error at position
0: "Error on line 33: missing comma (hint: '[')"
Later, it is this exactly this fixme:drawStridedFast >>>>>>>>>>> which scrolls
by continuously. I've used wine-1.1.24, although Stefan added a few patches
since. I prefer to stick to releases for tests.
Hmm, I already encountered that drawStridedFast message (with GLSL) in
2weistein Demo in wine-1.1.21 (there it was "only" reported ~ thousand times).
BTW, 2weistein Demo works great with or without UseGLSL -- even better without
it in the main menu, but that's another issue.
With (default) GLSL, FIFA WC 2006 works flawlessly on the MacOS -- the children
have totaled hours of game play. (Alas, I'd need to perform a full install
prior to submitting AppDB results about the Mac).

The game i'm trying to run is Anno 1404 (a.k.a. Dawn of Discovery)
I'm running the game with the following command from the game's install
location (in order to find correct libraries) :
DYLD_FALLBACK_LIBRARY_PATH="/opt/local/lib:/usr/X11/lib" ~/wine-git/wine
Anno4.exe
I've copied the usersettings from a copy on windows to get engine.ini and
account data in place. Performed D3D9 fix in engine.ini and set dbghelp.dll to
native with winecfg
D3D9 is installed with winetricks version 20100811.
When the game starts, it tries to authenticate the existing online profile,
showing a dialogue with 'Waiting for other online transactions', after a time
out, the dialogue shows 'logging in...', again after a certain amount of time,
the dialogue asks to enter password again. Clearly it didn't authenticate. I am
sure the credentials are correct. When trying to create an online profile, a
dialogue ask to enter username and password of your ubi-account. After doing
so, the dialogue 'Logging in...' appears and again after a certain amount of
time ask to enter your password again.
In the terminal output i found an error from winhttp that coincides connect
attempts:
err:winhttp:netconn_secure_connect couldn't verify server certificate (12157)
Attached you can find the terminal output from such a test flow described
above.
I've had this error also in the wine @1.2 and wine-devel @1.3.0 installed via
Macports.
Also the latest release of crossover games of Codeweavers has this problem to
authenticate an online profile for this game, although there was no error in
the terminal output but a warning stating RAS support is not implemented.
Bug 21868 insinuates a similar problem in wine version 1.1.39

Suggest that winetricks ask this question:
Have you installed DCOM98? (y/N) ?
With an abort message or call to DCOM 98 installation for Jet 4.0.
If this is already documented, please add this to the Jet 4.0 install

I can't upload attachments from a Mac running Mac OS 10.5. It does not matter
which browser I use (tested with Firefox and Safari). When I click submit to
begin the upload, the browser tells me it's sending the request, and then it
just sits there and does nothing. If I click the browser's stop button, I find
that my attachment is not there at all, like I didn't even try to attach
anything in the first place. Same thing happens when I try to create a new bug
with an initial attachment (like I tried to do with bug 19412; I wanted to
attach a log, but couldn't).
Don't tell me this is a bug with Mac OS or whatever browser I'm using (at the
moment, Firefox). I tried the Landfill test installation on Bugzilla's website,
and uploading attachments worked just fine. I tried both the 3.0 and 3.2
branches. Maybe it's time to upgrade?

(When bug 20762 is fixed, please change the OS to Mac OS X 10.6. Thank you.)
Building tests for Windows with mingw fails on Mac OS X. And yes, I do have
mingw installed. Specifically, tests fail to link with this message:
../../../dlls/winecrt0/libwinecrt0.a: could not read symbols: Archive has no
index; run ranlib to add one
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
winegcc: i386-mingw32-gcc failed
Yes, I tried running the mingw ranlib on the library but it had no effect. I
also tried cleaning out dlls/winecrt0. That had this effect:
/usr/local/bin/../lib/gcc/i386-mingw32/3.4.5/../../../../i386-mingw32/bin/ld:
cannot find -lwinecrt0
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
winegcc: i386-mingw32-gcc failed
I suspect that's because none of the cross tests depend on winecrt0 in their
Makefiles.
Running the mingw nm on libwinecrt0.a produces this:
i386-mingw32-nm: __.SYMDEF SORTED: File format not recognized
i386-mingw32-nm: delay_load.o: File format not recognized
i386-mingw32-nm: dll_entry.o: File format not recognized

i386-mingw32-nm: init.o: File format not recognized
i386-mingw32-nm: stub.o: File format not recognized
because a) it doesn't support Mach-O and b) it doesn't support Apple ranlib
indexes at all, let alone sorted ones.
Are you sure winegcc should be pulling in winecrt0 for the i386-mingw32 target?
Are you sure we don't want to use mingw's CRT startup code? If we want to use
winecrt0, why don't the cross tests depend on it, and why isn't a version built
for mingw32?

When trying to compile Wine 1.0-rc1 in Mac OS X Leopard, Wine errors during

failing. If i run 'make -k' to ignore the error, wine successfully compiles,
however this just ignores the problem, not solves it.

There is a long list of technologies in Mac OS X that could be used to improve
Wine on OS X. One of them is ColorSync. ColorSync is a color management
software that is HEAVILY integrated into the Mac OS. For instance, you can
calibrate your monitor and when OS X starts up, it will read the color profile
file and adjust the graphics card output. It will also do color correction
automatically in, e.g. Preview to get the best out of an image.
However, I do not know the relation between X11 and ColorSync. It is possible
that in order to take full advantage of ColorSync, a Mac OS X native front-end
will need to be developed.

Summary: Ankh2: main character, NPC and other things black

Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.24
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.5
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
With default Wine settings, that is without UseGLSL="disabled", the app
exhibits several related defects:
- The characters (Assil etc.) are drawn completely black.
- The intro displays black blocks on (correct) dark blue blackground instead of
the Deck13 logo in white and yellow.
- The game's first scene (alley/Gasse) is completely black except for the
passage to the illuminated main street. With "disabled", it's merely very dark
and Assil is visible (dark), which seems normal for this scene.
OTOH, The app seems to merit gold rating with UseGLSL=disabled, but it's too
early to tell after mere 10 minutes testing.
Alas, in both cases, there's a white square as background to the mouse pointer,
but that's another issue.
The logs are similar in both cases (not attached) and don't show anything not
already known from other apps (>1 backbuffer etc.) that work well.
Observed on nVidia Mac OSX 10.5.7, XQuartz 2.3.3.2 and Wine compiled myself
with nothing but Xcode 3.

When compiling Wine on Mac OS X under some installs, it fails to find X11's
libraries and include files.
The only thing that I can think of that's different is the lack of imake and
xmkmf. The default Leopard X11 install includes imake and xmkmf, however, if
someone chooses to not install base X11 and instead install Xquartz at a later
date, they do not get imake and xmkmf because they are not shipped with Xquartz
as of 2.2.0 - see http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki/X112.2.0 .
If the locations of X11's libraries and include files are specified with
--x-includes=/usr/X11/include and --x-libraries=/usr/X11/libs, Wine finds X11
and builds properly.

I have an Ubuntu (7.04) server at home, that server hosts my mp3s, oggs, .FLAC
etc.
When I try to listen an MP3 located on that server using foobar2k, Wine
crashes, and of course foobar2k crashes too. If I try to read (play) a .FLAC or
.OGG from the ubuntu server, I don't experience this issue at all ( the files
play normally ).
The files (mp3, ogg, .flac, etc...) are added to foobar2k playlist, the issue
comes when I try to play the added .mp3 files.
This issue is not present when I try to play an Mp3 from localhost using wine
of course.
Here is a link to download foobar2k , but I am pretty sure this is a Wine
issue, not a foobar issue. I haven't been able to install WinAMP to check if it
fails too.

Sehr geehrter Herr Matthies,

When trying to run the installer for Tejina, Wine is unable to start the
installer program. The errors in the logs are attached. I'm running Darwine
1.1.4 on Mac OS X 10.5.
Also tried in Ubuntu using Wine 1.1.4, with a similar failure. Ubuntu is able
to launch the installer, but crashes after the progress bar with the Earth
image. Ubuntu error log is in the second half of the attachment.
Tejina is a java-based kanji-recognition software. The company has since
discontinued making the application, but Download.com still has the program
available if further testing is needed:
http://www.download.com/Tejina/3000-2279_4-10069593.html
The installer application they used seems to be called InstallAnywhere by
ZeroG.com, if that is relevant.
http://www.acresso.com/products/installation/installanywhere.htm
Tried with and without Java installed in Wine.

Summary: Wine shouldn't assume the default visual supports GLX
Product: Wine

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Created an attachment (id=22631)

Output from glxinfo command
Right now, when initializing OpenGL support, and determining the OpenGL
capabilities of the host system (in X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo()), Wine makes
a very crucial assumption: that the default visual supports GLX. This is not
necessarily true, so therefore Wine should not make this assumption.
In the 2.4.0 release candidate from the Xquartz project, for example, the
default visual does not support GLX. The fact that it doesn't caused the
glXCreateContext() call in the mentioned function to fail.
In particular, that call to glXCreateContext() fails with the following
message:
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 0 ()
Value in failed request: 0x22
Serial number of failed request: 515
Current serial number in output stream: 515
That value in the message happens to be the ID of the default visual on my
system. Under 2.4.0 RC1, that visual doesn't support GLX. (In the next 2.4.0
RC, it will, for reasons which become apparent in the next paragraph.) I've
attached the output from glxinfo under that version, so you can see for
yourself.
I filed a bug with Xquartz (http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/ticket/287).
They told me they would fix it (and they did, and the fix is going into the
next 2.4.0 RC), but they also warned me that the default visual for a given
display and screen doesn't have to support GLX, and that I should report this
to WineHQ.

When I click on the Audio tab in winecfg, it begins to crash. First, it
displays this message:
There is no audio driver currently specified in the registry.
A recommended driver has been selected for you. You can use this driver or
select another driver if available.
You must click Apply for the selection to take effect.
When I hit OK on that message, winecfg briefly stays up with no menu options in
the open tab, and then crashes. Crash log is attached.
I thought this might be a duplicate of bug 4051, but since wine no longer uses

winefile screenshot of icon corruption
I've narrowed down graphical corruption with some icons on Wine compiled from
source on Mac OS X, specifically using Git on OS X 10.6.4, the latest update of
Snow Leopard. I do *not* see this on CentOS or Fedora hosts using Nvidia
drivers. I have only seen it on Mac OS X so far, on 10.5/Leopard and 10.6/Snow
Leopard.
I'm using the system-supplied X11 application on 10.6, and Xcode 3.2.3 which
equates to GCC:
**
rbwmbp:~ ryan.woodsmall$ gcc -v
Using built-in specs.
Target: i686-apple-darwin10

**
No special CFLAGS other than "-m32 -arch i386 -I/usr/X11/include" were used.
This happens in a completely empty, new prefix with no overrides, winetricks,
or anything else non-standard.
This corruption shows up in a number of apps, but I'm using winefile from a
source compile to verify the issue. I performed a bisect, and this issue
appears to have come up between 1.1.44 and 1.2-rc1; it is still an issue in the
release of 1.2 as well as the Git master. The bisect reveals the commit where
this issue first appears as:

Reverting the patch with "git show ea596f8a5f7d732bb56b5921ceb964137df0b930 |
patch -p1 -R" allows icons to appear as expected. A quick check of
physDevSrc->depth with printf shows a number of the passed values to be 24,
triggering the new get_no_alpha_mask path and resulting in the icon corruption.
Unfortunately I'm a bit out of my depth on the XRender extension, particularly
on the weird OS X X11 app, and the winex11.drv code. I didn't really notice
this issue until after the code freeze, and ran winefile and a few winetricks
to test the new release. I'll keep looking around the source and reading up on
XRender, but even if this is a simple fix I'm not sure I'll be able to fix it
simply and quickly.
Thanks all, and let me know if there's anything else I can provide!

Huw Davies' post 1.1.24 commit 7490f922e0adaacbf5396cf8afdc90e33bc1a808
"test for enhanced metafile retrieval" fails on MacOS.
After a variable amount of output about getdata and next, I see
clipboard.c:1356: Test failed: got 80004005
clipboard.c:1358: Test failed: got 0
Alas, the testsuite randomly crashes afterwards, because ReleaseStgMedium() is
not called only if(SUCCEEDED(hr)). In fact, n-1 occurrences of
ReleaseStgMedium in that file are not guarded. Therefore, the actual error was
not spotted until now.
Curiously, gcc -O0 tests/clipboard.c tends to crash less or show no crash
dialog at all. That may explain why using winetest.exe did not spot this
defect earlier. Sometimes test runs report no failure, it's just the missing
summary line that reveals the problem.
With the guard in place, the testsuite always runs to completion (with the
above 2 errors out of 381 tests).
