We don't need that kind of grief here. I've disabled Steven Vachon's bugzilla

Summary: Tom Clancy's Ghost Squad: terrain textures not displayed
on Core2 Duo PC
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC-x86-64
URL: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version
&iId=3666
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine-bugzilla(a)lovingboth.com
Game installs and runs ok, however terrain displays are solid black (Ubuntu
8.10 x64 with Wine 1.1.19) or solid light blue grey (Ubuntu 8.10 x64 with Wine
1.1.19 or 1.1.20). So for example, trees have the right shape and happily wave
in the wind, but are black / grey.
I can see the terrain in Igor.exe (the game's mission editor) and the sky /
characters / overlays like the grass in the first (caves) mission are fine.
This happens regardless of screen resolution, buffer depth, texture quality,
texture compression or mipmap settings. It is also unaffected by running on one
CPU core or two, or OpenGL's 'sync to VBlanck' setting.
Textures display ok on Athlon64 PC with 2G RAM, Ubuntu 9.04 x64, Nvidia 6150.
Problem on Core2 Duo PC with 8G RAM, Ubuntu 9.04 x64, Nvidia 8500GT which runs
several other games (e.g. Thief 2, The Thing) fine.

> Hurry the f*ck up.
Huw has been working on this for several YEARS and finally has a .plan to
implement most, if not all, of the DIB functionality. This WILL TAKE TIME.
This 'bug' is almost ten years old and many people, Max included, have picked
up and had to put this down because of the complexity of DIB engine
implementation. And your comment certainly will NOT speed things up. Each
addition has to be thoroughly tested to insure that nothing existing is broken.
There is a phrase that goes back in this project, this project, like it's real
world liquid beverage gets better over time. Some things have to 'brew' for
years before they are consumable. Patience is the best thing for both. In
other words, no code will be added before it's time and it has appropriately
'fermented' and is implemented properly and with much forethought.

Surprised too about lack of information, but anyways.... who cares ?
Soon or late it'll be completed, I hope soon, of course.
I've *not* looked at current Huw's implementation.... I lost interest in DIB
engine long time ago. It's just a pity that my patchset got broken, so who
needs the "old" dib engine should stay with an older wine version too.
I just tested the actual implementation, but, for my purposes, it doesn't speed
up anything. Your mileage may vary, of course.
AFAIK, most of apps needing it needs font drawing speedup, and there's still no
trace of dib font drawing in new engine, and that one isn't a trivial task.
My engine implemented it with some glitches, but at least it was usable.
Also, I've got no idea if Huw is grabbing something of my code or not, but I
guess not.
BTW, as a user, I would have liked something a bit more useful, or at least
something which wouldn't break completely the "old almost working engine", as
many people used it, but of course it's not under my control.
Nor I've time to rebase the old one on current three, mostly because, as far as
I can see, the interface is still changing too much and it'll be a very time
consuming task.
So, cross your fingers (as usual) and hope :-)
Ciao
Max

#2 grey lines are across the screen when in-game shadows are turned on.
The game is based on the Ogre3D engine.
Workaround: disable vertex shader support in winecfg's graphics tab.
How to reproduce the bug:
After installation make sure you have the latest (1.1.4 as of writing) version
of the game. Launch the game, a configuration window will popup. Start a new
game by selecting 'Story mode': cruise the streets in your car until you come
across some zombies >> watch them in strange colors.
Note #1: there is a demo available for the game (still at version 1.06), in
which the issues are not present (using the same Wine version and
configuration, of course). I suppose one of the changes in the game's graphical
engine causes the glitches in the rendering. The issue can be observed from
patch 1.1.1 onward.
Note #2: the game will automatically install OpenAL,DirectX,PhysX and some MS
VC++ libraries. You need to set 'openal32.dll' to 'native' in order to start
the game properly.
Note#3: if you have game version 1.1.1 or 1.1.2, I suggest upgrading to the
latest, 1.1.4 version. The patch corrects some stability issues which can be
observed in Wine, too (the game hangs in an early stage).

The program TypeFaster.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to
close.
TypeFaster is an Open Source typing tutor that offers a touch typing course in
15 lessons. The program can keep track of your progress with statistical charts
and create custom exercises based on the errors you make during your lessons.
An interactive keyboard display can assist you with finding the keys without
having to look at the keyboard. Type Faster also includes spaceship-shooter
typing game. Other features include support for international keyboard layouts,
customizable typing lessons, adjustable font sizes and more.
The program TypeFaster.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to
close.
When running the program in Linux Ubuntu 10.10 using Wine the above message
appears after three to five minutes of typing. Up until that point it works
fine and then it just crashes for no apparent reason.
If you try and paly the TypeFaster game as soon as I select "Play Game" it
crashes immediately.
The TypeFaster program works great in Windows but I have only Linux in my net
book and prefer using linux OS.
Thank you for looking into this problem.

In Morrowind, click-and-drag use of the mouse (eg. dragging a scrollbar thumb)

This is easy to test: when the main menu comes up, click and drag on an area
that isn't a menu option. The mouse pointer should move, but doesn't.
This is a regression: 1.3.18 works, 1.3.20 and newer don't. 1.3.19 is unknown:
it contains a bug with mp3 playing that causes Morrowind to crash before I can
test the click-and-drag bug.

patch to mmdevapi/tests/render.c to play silence
Hi,
I've attached one version of the patch to mmdevapi/tests/render.c that works
well with testbot and seems to work well with Ubuntu Intrepid with PulseAudio,
but produces random crashes within a critical section when used with dmix.
mmdevdrv.d:837 NULL pointer access when looking for a GUID, called from
test_session i.e. after my changes in test_clock!
I found that very suspicious and thus ran the test in Ubuntu Lucid with
Valgrind (and PulseAudio), and it shows:

My render loop may not be bug free - please check - but I believe the illegal
access to be in mmdevapi.
I recommend adding a player loop to the tests.
There really is a timing issue. Sometimes, even with Valgrind, there's no
illegal access during the test run. In that case I typically see:
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7f41a704 "?" wait timed out in
thread 0022, blocked by 0023, retrying (60 sec)
Perhaps the critical section was destroyed, somewhat too early?
BTW, the CoTaskMemFree within the patch are part of a bug fix that I'll submit
this Monday.

right-click again.
I thought I'd post this bug report for anyone using Wine to run these classic
Windows 3.1 16-bit games.
I have tried going into Wine configuration and ticking "Allow DirectX apps to
stop the mouse leaving their window", but that doesn't work. I don't think
16-bit games like ballistic use DirectX?

standard console log
In the multiplayer mode of the game Chrome, Wine frequently freezes either when
the game loading a new map or when disconnecting from the server. Both the
Steam version of the game and the demo shows the same issue.
How to reproduce the problem in the demo:
Install the demo, start it by ChromeNet.exe. Select 'Multiplayer' from the
menu, then 'Join net game'. The demo contains only 5 maps, so there is a slight
chance you can connect to one of the servers. The maps in the demo are:
Loomia2, Narrow, Skirmish, Soilent, and Trench3.
After successfully connecting you can play a bit (if you like it), then choose
Quit game...the game gets unresponsive and hangs.
I attached a console log, unfortunately it doesn't show any relevant
information.
These are the last lines of messages from the game itself (crash.log):
Creating client - port:27015
[CSocket::Bind]: <bind> error: WSAEACCES
[CClient::CClient]: UDP socket bind failed
[JAVA_CreateClient]: client crash

Backtrace
The current version of the Runes of Magic downloader does not work with Wine
(tested with 1.1.17 and 1.1.18, against both a clean prefix and one that was
loaded with stuff for Steam and other apps).
The installer aborts after the user selects an installation directory.
The entries in the AppDB indicate that it was installable at one time (and may
play just fine once this bug is squashed). It is unclear if it is now
uninstallable due to a regression in Wine or due to an updated installer exe.
I will try to quickly throw the wine 1.0.1 packages on to see if I get the same
results, and respond here.

Summary: Bus error in create_alpha_bitmap on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
with Xcode 4.1
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.25
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: camillo.lugaresi+wine(a)gmail.com
I have compiled Wine 1.3.25 on Mac OS X 10.7, with the latest developer tools
installed (Xcode 4.1).
Trying to launch any wine program, even winemine, results in it crashing with
the message "Bus error: 10".
Running wine inside gdb, and with WINEDEBUG=+relay, shows that the crash occurs
while doing:
0045:Call user32.LoadIconA(403b0000,403b5a84 "WINEMINE") ret=403b1899
Specifically, it crashes inside create_alpha_bitmap, soon after the call to
StretchDIBits returns, inside the loop that does alpha premultiplication. By
disassembling I found that the crash occurs in the line
ptr[0] = ptr[0] * alpha / 255;
when attempting to write back the value into ptr[0]. It occurs on the very
first iterations of the loop.
I tried googling a bit, and this seems to be the same problem that was
discussed here:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2011-January/088553.html
But that conversation was back in January, and it's unclear if any resolution
was reached.
Anyway, since this problem seems to make Wine completely unusable on Lion, and
can be reproduced entirely within wine, I think it should be considered both
easy to reproduce (as long as you have access to a Mac) and very urgent to fix

wined3d: Give GL_ARB_map_buffer_range another try.
See the attached screenshot for an example of the corruption. It is actually
pretty hard to capture a screenshot of the corruption because it keeps flashing
and changing between the correct image and the corrupted image.
I'm not using any override, but, as it should be obvious, I'm using ARB (on
regedit, the key "UseGLSL" is "disabled"). Without setting this the game barely
runs.
Running Ubuntu 11.04 i386 with a ATI Radeon HD 5450 card and using proprietary
driver fglrx version 8.84.6.
According to glxinfo, this driver has the GL_ARB_map_buffer_range extension,
but apparently it is broken...

Allows application to respond user action while waiting. For example cancel
button.
Example: http://netikka.net/dev/winhttpwait.exe
Click "download". There is time counter, but counter doesn't work. Same thing
with cancel button. Also request should timeout in 30 seconds, but it doesn't?
(Url is just some large exe-file, easier to reproduce problem also using fast
internet connection)

fhttp.send();
// waiting 30 seconds or user cancel.

See screenshot. There is no terminal output.
Tried winetricks riched20 riched30 corefonts, but none of those helped.
Interestingly, it only occurs on the first dialog, the others are okay.

WINEDEBUG=+seh (partial) output
I've got a VB6 application which I'm trying to run on Wine 1.0.9.
Several modules of the software are still made in VB3 (application name is
"Ec501.exe") and are called by the 32 bit part.
I understand that the 32 bit is put on hold until the 16bit is completed
(Mutex16 stuff)
When I start the 16 bit part I get the attached error message and the 16bit
part is not executed.
In particular I get:
"Unhandled exception: floating point stack check in 32-bit code"
PS: My machine is an Athlon 1200 with Ubuntu 8.10 and gnome.
PS2: Im running the etersoft wine version "wine_1.0.9-eter41ubuntu_i386"
because the software is protected by an USB Eutron Smartkey (which etersoft
version supports). The part related to the smartkey works correctly.
WINEDEBUG=+seh log attached
Thanks

in the kingdom level/map, the ground is not drawn. while the ground is drawn in
all cities, this bug happens only in kingdom. all other objects in the kigdom
appear normally, including mountains, people, horses, grass, stones/pebbles,
water, bridges, buildings, etc... everything is drawn, just on top of an
invisible ground through which i can see everything, including distant
buildings miles away.
i have lots of native DLLs, most of the DirectX files in fact, using winetricks
for that, but i did try creating an alternate wine prefix, with no overides,
and the bug still happened.
i don't know how to provide any useful logs for this issue, wine throws a lot
of output during all levels, good and bad ones, but i'll try providing a short
output log anyway.

My question, Is it possible to make wine running at a slow speed click time to
avoid this problem? (I presume it should be used for some older games)
In other word, Is it possible to virtualise the speed of processor in purpose
to use older program?
thanks.

It would be cool to develop/maintain under wine rather windows...

I then changed X11's screen depth to 16, and got some different errors and a
segfault. This bug is about the segfault, even though I suspect that the
segfault wouldn't happen if the previous errors were resolved. Backtraces from
wine and gdb are attached.
I pretty much know how the segfault happens on a low level, but I don't know
what the correct resolution is because I don't know anything about D3D or 3D in
general, let alone how wine implements that stuff. Here's the "flow" of code
which causes the segfault to happen:
IDirectDrawImpl_CreateSurface is called
IDirectDrawImpl_AttachD3DDevice is called
IWineD3DDevice_Init3D is called
IWineD3DDeviceParent_CreateSwapChain call fails
Jumps to err_out label, This->swapchains is never allocated
Error handling causes stuff to return until we're in
IDirectDrawImpl_CreateSurface again
... and you can see the rest from the backtraces

Mouse control is seriously broken in both The First and The Second Encounter of
the series (Serious Sam II is not affected). The player finds himself looking
at the ground very frequently.
In the menus the mouse works correctly.
Nothing relevant in the console.
On my system the problem is reproducible in
- Wine's full-screen mode
- virtual desktop mode, only when the option "Automatically capture the mouse
in full-screen windows" is checked.
Native dinput.dll doesn't help. Compiling Wine without xinput2 support works
around the problem.
The problem with the mouse began with the following commit:
a59c7cc8596b658d3c0854a737528cf60947ac1f is the first bad commit
commit a59c7cc8596b658d3c0854a737528cf60947ac1f

winex11: Automatically clip the pointer when the foreground window is
full-screen.
With that commit the mouse pointer was spinning around constantly mid-game and
it also jumped around in the menus.
Although the spinning issue as well as the problem in the menus were fixed with
a later commit, the mouse pointer still tends to point to the ground frequently

I am using nvidiagfx-legacy96.43. Switching to the free 'nv' driver with Mesa
as a GL library does display the GTA2 game screen - albeit slow, as expected
from Mesa. The card I am using is a Geforce2MX 400 ("NV11"). The lack of
potential features should be worked around, I would say.

As expected patch db8d681a5b088b3b0dd58c6952086891f6bbb4f5 broke water
rendering in StarCraft 2 with ARB shaders. The water is now black again.
This can be reproduced with e.g. the Agria Valley map on highest graphics. I
think especially the shaders are important here. As far as I remember the
important thing in SC2 is that the result of RCP(0.0) * 0.0 gives 0.0.
Reverting the patch fixes SC2. I'll give GLSL a try.

Running Starcraft 2 with current git wine and current git mesa on Ubuntu 11.04
works except for textures. They are not drawn.
It looks like a problem in the association of DXT5 formal surfaces. For some
reason wine does not set the "internal formal", "gl format" and "gl type" to
correct values, but leaves them as 0.
Here are the relevant log traces of mesa vs fglrx:
mesa:

I guess, the mesa-gallium detection does not cover the DXT5-Textures, as the
fglrx detection of wine initialization does.
I'll try to do some debugging myself, but if there are hints or solution ideas
of experienced wine-devs, that would be great.

I would like to check on this bug but I can't find a working download link
anymore. Probably most users know but I guess it won't hurt to say once again:
unprivileged users cannot bind to ports <1024 due to security reasons. Using
the local port zero tells the OS we don't care about it and the OS will select
a free port for us.

The music plays well in current git with one problem, I'm using
timidity+freepats and winecfg shows 4 timidity ports under alsa. The problem is
that music stops if the focus is removed from the game window (as does on
Windows) and does not resume when it gets focused again (differently from
Windows). After losing focus these are the last lines from mci:

What are the best flags do debug this? I'm using only +mci by now.

moving mouse cursor other my X screen hitting borders all the time.
I've tried to run games in separate X session with no windows manager and it
haven't changed anything.

At first it felt like a normal evolution of the game's hardware requirements,
but due to a LOT of recent feedback from WoW players under wine, it seems like
something doesn't work on Wine's side.
Since the expansion patch Echoes of Doom, World of Warcraft lost at least 30
fps in crowded areas (shows a lot in battlegrounds and raids), and over 15 fps
in completely empty areas. The new shadow engine is disabled. Turning all
details and other effects off has very little effect on the game.
The new (bug 14975) screenfog effect (ffxSpecial) is disabled. Existing
configuration hasn't been changed.
Enabling or disabling GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object shows no obvious difference
(feels slightly faster when disabling).
No relevant output is given in the terminal. Downgrading to wine 1.0, 1.1 or
1.1.3 (all three worked quite fine before) doesn't make any difference.

autocad setup log
Following a suggestion from Anastasius Focht, I'll report bug 14456 in a more
correct way and without making assumptions ow what's the cause of the problem.
Resuming it :
1) On wine 1.0 I could install AutoCAD 2005 on a patched wine, with following
patches :
a) Fixed opengl crash (see bug 13599, closed after 1.1), not necessary anymore
b) Fixed missing backslash returned on registry returned local path queries
(see bug 13838)
Other necessary stuffs were native DOTNET2.0 (broken 1.1 sp1, see bug 13995),
native MSXML3 (needed because of unimplemented stuffs leading to bad toolbars
contents) and native shlwapi (needed because of register today dialog,
displayed incorrectly).
With those prerequisites autocad could be installed and runs ok.
2) On latest git (after 1.1.1), the situation changed :
a) opengl bug is solved, no need to patch it anymore
b) missing backslash bug still present, needs a patch
c) theoretically no need for dotnet2.0 anymore, autocad installs its own
1.1sp1 which goes ok. Just to restrict possible areas of failures, I
did stil winetricks dotnet2.0 before setup.
d) steel needed MSXML3 and shlwapi as native, same reasons as above.
Autocad installs ok (well, it appears ok, see later); attached here is the
COMPLETE setup log, starting from fresh wine prefix, installation of corefonts,
dotnet2.0, msxml3 and autocad itself.
On first launch it crashes, see next report part.

In the editor, the same applies, the creature and background renders, but the
interface to the left does not. Moving the mouse over the buttons shows the
button, but they are invisible until you rollover them.

Using 1.0-rc3 on Ubuntu 8.04.
When making an SSH2 connection in SecureCRT 6.0.2, Wine give an unhandled page
fault error and backtrace right after supplying the login name. See attached
output from Wine. This happens at the point where SecureCRT would normally
prompt for a password.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new session with SSH2 to a server that accepts password logins
2. Accept the host key when prompted.
3. Enter login name when prompted.
SecureCRT should then prompt for a password and this is where the error occurs
in the Wine output.

Based on the application log, it appears that CE fails at the point where the
navigation chart (map) would be drawn. Startup to that point appears to be
nominal. The first run's (installation and app launch) entries in the app log
shows the chart portfolio being built as expected; the file was found and is as
expected. The second run's entries show a normal startup. Again, the point of
failure is when the app should show a map or chart in its browser.
Note: ~/.wine was deleted and winecfg was run, after updating from .57 to .58,
to create a new ~/.wine. VSN's were assigned to the C:\ volume and to Z:\
volume (/ or the root directory); this is a continuation of Bug 11832.
This bug prevents the application from fully launching and renders it unusable
(garbage rating down from bronze).

In the menu and in the game itself the cursor is present and can be moved
around but neither clicks nor hoovering over a an item registers.
In the windowed mode, I get e default X cursor blinking in the middle of hte
screen, in addition to clicks and hoovering not working.
This used to work fine in the previous versions of wine(can't tell exactly
which, since it's been a while, but if it would be helpful I can check
different versions to see when this behavior started).

Summary: Characters appear as shadows and other issues when
running The Longest Journey
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.10

--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=17847)
stderr log
When running the game The Longest Journey, build 142, all 3D characters appear
only as black shadows. Video in FMV sections only updates when the mouse button
is clicked, although sound proceeds normally. Sound is choppy during normal
gameplay (sound in FMV sequences is fine.) The game also will not exit
properly, requiring the virtual desktop window to be closed. The same problems
persist when 3D acceleration is disabled in the game's config, and doing so
causes the mouse cursor to no longer display.
I am using an Nvidia 7600GT video card using the version of Nvidia's binary
drivers provided in the Ubuntu 8.04 repositories. I'm using the onboard sound
on an Asus P5B motherboard, using ALSA drivers in both my Linux configuration
and my Wine config.
I have the Windows version set to Win98 as NT-based versions cause a warning
message to be displayed when the game starts.
Note: This bug applies to the original "The Longest Journey" game, released in
1999/2000, not to its sequel, "Dreamfall: The Longest Journey". I thought I'd
clarify this as the similarities in the titles can cause some confusion.

winecfg output and ossinfo
Hello,
at least for me, OSSv4 doesn't work with wine-1.3.25 built from source code.
This means there is no sound in games and "Test sound" in % winecfg; doesn't
work.
OSSv4 works just fine in wine-1.3.24. I even tried to recompile wine-1.3.24 in
case my libraries or whatever got changed and broken, but sound still works in
this version.
Also in my opinion '/dev/snd/' is obsolete. There are dev files located in
'/dev/' eg. '/dev/dsp', '/dev/midi', '/dev/mixer' and so on. See attached %
ossinfo;
If there is anything more I can do, let me know.
Regards,
Z.

When the launcher for the game is invoked in Wine's fullscreen mode I'm getting

refresh rates 50 Hz and 51 Hz.
However, choosing any resolutions other than the default resulting the
following message:
'Resolution not available with the selected refresh rate'
If I start the launcher in virtual desktop mode I'm getting fewer choices of
resolutions and only refresh rate 60 Hz is available. I can choose any of the
available resolutions and the launcher accepts the selection.
The same problem with Wine-1.0.1, 1.2.3, ...
Native devenum and dxdiagn dlls don't help.
Steps to reproduce the problem in the demo:
1) After installation start SettingsApplication.exe in Wine's fullscreen mode.
2) Try to change the screen resolution to a different one...it fails

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 136 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 26 (X_GLXMakeContextCurrent)
The crash happens after the game resizes the screen but before the very first
'Crytek' splash screen is shown, ie within the first few seconds.
If I set OffScreenRendering to backbuffer, they do not crash but the graphics

Crysis Warhead works fine with the default fbo, and so do the other

The crash doesn't happen with an older nvidia 8600M card.

Summary: RCT3: Crash in fglrx if you change/disable a ride sign
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.43
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine-bugs(a)digital-trauma.de
Created an attachment (id=28839)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=28839)
rct3 stdout/err with backtrace, wine 1.2-rc2, fglrx 10.5
Since 1.1.43 (the first ver to fix a unrelated crashing regression) I had
random crashes in Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 Platinum when setting a running ride
to testing and vice versa. I only recently narrowed it down to ride signs:
these are dynamically labelled signs in front of the ride queue which per
default are shown for every ride in your park (they marquee the name of the
ride, or "Testing..." etc.), Now if you cause this sign to change after it has
been on screen already, the game may crash with an NPE in fglrx.
Steps to reproduce: Start the sandbox, build one(!) ride and a queue tile in
front of the entrance so the sign is visible. Now in the details tab, disable
the queue sign. If it doesn't crash already, set the ride to Testing, show
sign, disable sign. At least now I consistently get a crash. If you have two or
more rides, one of them may survive the sign on/off roundtrip.
Expected behaviour: Just draw or not draw the sign.
Actual behaviour: Crash (access violation, null pointer with offset; see stdout
of two such crashes)
Workaround: when building a ride, disable the queue sign before building an
entrance. Doesn't work for parks you load where there already are signs present
- if they change because a ride brakes down or because you want to close / edit
them, the game may crash.
First seen in wine: 1.1.43 with fglrx 9.11
Last seen in wine: 1.2-rc2 with fglrx 10.5 (see logs)

Summary: SRCDS - Console only
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: kernel32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: laurikoivunen(a)hotmail.com
While using SRCDS (valve's Source Dedicated Server) over wine you are required
to use X even if one issues -console in the program parameters (will launch a
wine console). This is extremely frustrating because then you also need to use
X to even see something on the console window.
I found a workaround.
Hack kernel32's AllocConsole to just return true and make something like this
with GetNumberOfConsoleInputEvents:
================
BOOL WINAPI GetNumberOfConsoleInputEvents( HANDLE handle, LPDWORD nrofevents )
{
if (nrofevents) *nrofevents = 0;
return TRUE;
}
================
.. and issue export DISPLAY=''
This will allow running the server in console only mode but this naturally
disables text input. My C skills are nonexistent so I am asking here if a wine
developer could make this work.
