in all of them. after reverting to wine 1.2 everything worked again. Adding

Summary: Cannot start TurboCAD v14
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: ole
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: louie928(a)gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=13655)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=13655)
Returned when starting TurboCAD v14 with WINEDEBUG=+loaddll
OS is Linux Mandriva 2008.1 Spring x86_64
Wine version 1.-rc3
Windows program IMSI TurboCAD v14 Pro
Free trial of TCv15 is available at
http://activate.imsisoft.com/freeen.aspx?Product=TCP15
Problem:
TurboCAD installs normally but will not start.
Starting from terminal shows an ole error of not loading IMSICTRL.TLB
Wine is using all builtin DLLs.
I find this statement from the Wine Users Guide confusing.
++++++++++++++
3.1.2.1. DLL Overrides
It's not always possible to run an application on builtin DLL's. Sometimes
native DLL's simply work better. After you've located a native DLL on a Windows
system, you'll need to put it in suitable place for Wine to find it and then
configure it to be used. Generally the place you need to put it is in the
directory you've configured to be c:\windows\system32 (more on that in the
drives section). There are four DLL's you should never try to use the native
versions of: kernel32.dll, gdi32.dll, user32.dll, and ntdll.dll. These
libraries require low-level Windows kernel access that simply doesn't exist
within Wine
+++++++++++++++
On one hand it says to use native (Windows) DLLs for some DLLs, presumably
these 4 DLLs, but then says to never try to use native DLLs for these 4, but
also says the builtin DLLs aren't adequate either. Which is it for these DLLs?
This is my first bug report. If I did not get it correct, please educate me.
The log file for trying to start TC14 with WINEDEBUG=+loaddll is attached.

that specific problem was fixed by commit

Thanks Alistair.
Now the app shows a license dialog and upon accepting it displays error message
box stating "Error 80010108" (RPC_E_DISCONNECTED).
Thats a different issue, deserving a different bug (though might be already
covered by other VB6/COM related bugs).

The ubuntu download page
http://www.winehq.org/download/deb
states that an archive is maintained.
This archive is
http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html
only maintained up to Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04).
At the other hand, there is NO wine-1.2rc2 for Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04), as the
formerly supported link:
http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt jaunty
ceased to be updated.
The versions after wine-1.1.38 suffer regressions, so that I cannot use it on
my machine.
Is it possible
a) to keep updating Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04) updates and archives
b) to select an archive (I will probably need wine-1.1.38 after upgrade to
Karmic) for newer releases ?

Hello devs,
This function may [1]always return S_OK and be compliant with the
specifications. However this function is likely to be small, here is some
pseudo code.
HRESULT OleQueryLinkFromData(
LPDATAOBJECT pSrcDataObject
) {
dat = /* Get a pointer to the clipboard data */;
ret = pSrcDataObject->QueryGetDat(dat);
return (ret == S_OK) ? S_OK : S_FALSE;
}
Please help get this bug off the UNCONFIRMED list.
1. "A successful return from OleQueryLinkFromData does not, however, guarantee
the successful creation of a link."

btw, on second thought it might be better to just set the error to

Looks like this is a problem in advapi - I get thousands of lines of trace:
fixme:advapi:ReadEventLogW
(0xcafe4242,0x0000000a,0xffff76d2,0xd07a20,0x00002800,0x32dca4,0x32dc90) stub
Is there any way we can:
- find what input is being passed to this function
- find what this function does on Windows
- update the code to do this.
I'm a willing coder if someone will give me a gentle shove in the right
direction.

With latest git (revision 8496db4976a9e068361b8e4737d085fbe37b98e0), the
freeware game irisu syndrome fails to render many graphical elements (see
attached screenshots). To be specific, only "activated" pieces - ie, those with
a glow effect applied - seem to be rendered. Changing locale to Japanese
(LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8) does not seem to have any effect.
The game in question can be downloaded from
http://www.vector.co.jp/soft/dl/win95/game/se463417.html - click the

I am using ubuntu intrepid with 64-bit kernel and userspace (32-bit wine) with
the binary nvidia video driver.
Note: I'm selecting directdraw because a component is required in the
bugreport, but for all I know it might be direct3d instead...

I'm using 1600x1200 desktop resolution and XF86VidMode. Any DirectDraw
applications have their graphics appear on the lower left part of the screen,
while mouse input is taken from the upper left part. This is apparently
because the fullscreen window that Wine creates gets stretched to really be
fullscreen, and Wine then proceeds to use glViewport(0, 0, width, height) width
the original dimensions to blit 2D graphics on the screen. Since OpenGL's
origin is in the lower left, the graphics are mispositioned.
In many games this game be fixed either using the game's own settings to use
1600x1200, some window manager trickery, or running the game in Wine's desktop
window. However, I've found Syberia to be impervious to all these methods.

It's not freezing and hanging your computer, per se. The freezing is just
hl2.exe(or in your case, hl.exe). The OS is running otherwise normally, you
just need to SSH in and pkill -CONT hl.exe and it will continue. hl.exe, like
other games, captures mouse and keyboard(leaving it impossible to do anything
when it hangs) so SSH is a must here.

It seems that the problem still exist even for the latest Wine version

CS 1.6 randomly freezes and hangs my computer leading to shutting down the
computer and hard reboot.
My graphic card is : HIS Radeon HD 4670 (AGP). However, it seems that my card
is not supported with open source drivers from ATI, so ive just installed
drivers corresponding to HD 4600 series, that is PCI-Express modules. Do any of

I had the same problem a while ago with a game using the kirikiri engine (I was
running wine 1.2). Here's the workaround I used.
These were the errors printed by wine:
fixme:quartz:MPEGSplitter_query_accept MPEG-1 system streams not yet supported
and after overriding quartz.dll:
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {feb50740-7bef-11ce-9bd9-0000e202599c} not
registered
err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {feb50740-7bef-11ce-9bd9-0000e202599c}
could be created for context 0x1
The solution I found was actually quite simple: register the "MPEG Video
Decoder" OLE interface, for the service provided by quartz (so that it can be
found by ole32.dll, right?). So:
1. Get quartz.dll (winxp sp2 version worked for me), copy it to
"c:\windows\system32" in the wine prefix.
2. Register it with "wine regsvr 'c:\windows\system32\quartz.dll'". (Or was it
'regsvr32'? Can't remember...)
3. Override quartz.dll in winecfg (or use the appropriate environment
variable).
4. Done.
If that didn't solve the problem, try manually importing ("wine regedit
path/to/file.reg") the registry entries for the "MPEG Video Decoder" interface:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{083863F1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}\Instance\{FEB50740-7BEF-11CE-9BD9-0000E202599C}
Or for the whole "ActiveMovie Filter Class Manager" branch:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{083863F1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}

GLSL shader bugs were causing frequent crashes for me in Oblivion; upgrading

Summary: Gallium + Indexed rendering = Null pointer dereference

Failed device.ok test in d3d9
First off, I *am* upstream (Mesa/Gallium), so assume they've been contacted. :3
Gallium and indexed rendering are not very happy with each other. I get some
fairly solidly reliable segfaults with both a d3d9 DLL test (device.ok) and
Civ4 (Steam version). Hardware is a Radeon R580 (X1900), driver is r300g from
Mesa git.
I'm attaching four logs. The first two are the original test and Civ4 logs; the
second two are the same, but edited to show the juicy bits.
My current guess, based on the Mesa debug info I dumped, is that the indexed
rendering code is slightly baked and maybe trusting the underlying GL driver a
bit too much.
get_arrays_bounds: Handling 2 attrs
attr 0: stride 16 size 12 start (nil) end 0xfffffffc
attr 1: stride 16 size 4 start 0xc end (nil)
buffer range: (nil) 0xfffffffc range -4 max index 4294967295
So right here (from device.ok) we have interleaved userspace VBO, that is being
prepped inside core Mesa. Two delightful things here; the first attr seems way
off-base, it shouldn't dare be giving us bad pointers, and the second attr's
pointers don't even line up! Compare to a sane program (Mesa's drawarrays):
get_arrays_bounds: Handling 2 attrs
attr 0: stride 16 size 12 start 0x8087020 end 0x808705c
attr 1: stride 16 size 4 start 0x808702c end 0x8087060
buffer range: 0x8087020 0x8087060 range 64 max index 3
r300g doesn't really care. The kernel drops the rendering on the floor for a
variety of reasons, not least being the ridiculous max_index.
But then it segfaults, and I have zero idea why. I'd guess it's something to do
with tossing around NULL pointers like candy, but I'm honestly not sure and I
haven't really dug into the DLL code yet.

The game is a freeware remake of a classic shooter game, called 'Aliens'.
When you start the game a launcher window should show up in the middle of the
screen (approx. 480x360 pixels), containing the options: <Run game>, <Change
mode> and <Quit>.
The launcher doesn't appear in Wine.
If I start the game in virtual desktop mode I can only see the blue background,
nothing else. Actually, the launcher is sitting there (in the middle of the
virtual desktop) but it is invisible. If I click on the appropriate area in the
blank virtual desktop, the game starts fine.
The launcher doesn't show up correctly in fullscreen mode either: a blank
rectangle is placed in the middle of the screen (supposedly that is the
launcher).

My machine : Windows XP / Linux Ubuntu 11.04 dual boot, both updated regularly,
desktop, stand-alone, sole user. I have installed Wine through method described
in ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1524397 (sudo apt-get install wine) which
automatically fetched Wine ver 1.2.2. In the meantime I had downloaded
e-Sword's setup983.exe, setup991.exe and niv.exe. I then installed setup983.exe
on wine after which I could run e-Sword successfully, but after I installed
niv.exe on e-Sword (which you must do) e-Sword failed and gave the above error.
(niv.exe is the NIV Bible which runs on e-Sword). This pattern followed on each
consecutive installation. I then uninstalled e-Sword from Wine and deleted all
remaining e-Sword files.
I then installed setup991.exe with the same procedure and the same result.
Then I tried to install e-Sword with method described on
ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=404042 and with both versions of e-Sword but
again with the same result.
Then I did a clean uninstall of Wine 1.2 and installed Wine 1.3 from Synaptic.
Installation of e-Sword with the same procedure described above gave the same
result.
ON WINDOWS XP I HAD NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.

position when mouse makes click.
This makes gameplay very difficult. The game is available freely for download.

Summary: Wine locks the initial executable
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.38
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: us(a)edmeades.me.uk
When wine first loads the main executable it leaves a 'shared read' lock
against the executable. A (deliberatly unnamed) application I was debugging
does a consistency check by opening itself using SHARE_NONE in the CreateFile
API. This works on windows but fails under wine. I've cut the problem down to a
simple testcase, where test (1) shows the failure.
The problem is I (a) dont know how to fix it and (b) cant add tests to wine
itself for it as it has to be a native executable (as thats where the bug
lies).
I reported it on wine-devel:
--------------------------------------------------------
I have cut this down to a 2 line test program, which basically fails
because a native executable called eg. test.exe subsequently calls
CreateFile(".\\test.exe", GENERIC_READ, 0 /* no share*/ - ie it's
opening itself for read access and non-shared access. It suffers a
sharing violation on wine whereas it works fine on windows
Diagnosing the wine side, we are in trouble here - the act of loading
a module ends up in load_dll which call find_dll_file which in turn
calls NtOpenFile for GENERIC_READ access. This returns a file handle
which is then used to create the in memory file mapping for the
executable code, and the handle returned from the NtOpenFile is then
closed.
However, when we come along to the application code and try the open
we end up checking the sharing and there are 3 things on the
inode->open chain:
The original open, with access of read
The mapping, with access of mapping
The open in progress (which is ignored for sharing checks) which does
not want to SHARE_READ,and hence the sharing violation occurs. For
reference we are failing in the 3rd (last) case of check_sharing
returning STATUS_SHARING_VIOLATION, ie existing access if for read
purposes, but the requested sharing doesnt allow this.
What I dont understand is why the NtClose for the handle does not
remove it from the 'open' list - I think from my reading of the
fd_destroy code it will put it onto the closed list if there are other
references to the same inode, although thats where my debugging will
head next.

Alexander replied:
Loading a dll keeps a reference to the file object, because it needs to be
returned in debug events. Probably it would be possible to reference the
mapping object instead and reopen the file from it.

I've got stuck and am out of my depth so leaving this for someone as a bug
report.

DVD Profiler includes the facility to drag and drop images into some areas of
the application - indeed this is the only way you can populate one area of the
database.
Wine does not seem to like dragging images from the desktop (or elsewhere) into
the Windows app - you simply get a circle with a bar across it (typical "can't
do this" icon).
I'm running KDE on OpenSuSE 11.0.

I am new to wine. I tried installing an education program for my daughter
called Quest Atlantis (http://atlantis.crlt.indiana.edu/#61). That part went
fine. At startup, I first had to add a couple dlls (mfc42.dll and
msvcp60.dll). Not a problem. Then, I started it up.
I first get a message saying it cannot load the web browser for some feature.
I click "OK".
Then I get a program error saying "The program aworld.exe has encountered a
serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I know this program works fine under windows because all the kids in my
daughter's class use it. Any help would be appreciated. I've attached the
dump.

Summary: RIFT 1.3 hotfix 2 hangs, weird behavior with vectored

Product: Wine

Created an attachment (id=35305)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=35305)
Trace with unchanged wine 1.3.23, +process,+seh,+tid
The game RIFT hangs as of 1.3 hotfix 2; after logging in, the game window
appears and the startup music plays, but does not display the progress display
for loading characters.
This is being reported widely on a number of configurations, but I'm on Ubuntu
11.04, NVidia GeForce GT 430 w/ 270.41.06 drivers as shipped by Ubuntu. Tested
on everything from the C-Korn PulseAudio-patched PPA Wine (1.3.22) to current
git HEAD (tagged as wine-1.3.23).
I've been trying to figure this out on my own, and have made some progress.
The problem is in the vectored exception handlers; one of the threads tries to
set a name for itself via the 406d1388 exception trick. Unfortunately, the top
vectored exception handler list entry appears to be garbage, and its handler
function almost immediately throws an c0000005 exception. This re-calls the
garbage handler, which trips, causing another call, and so on. Eventually the
thread runs out of stack and is forcibly aborted. Since the other threads are
waiting on this thread to do something interesting, the game hangs.
I've patched ntdll to include some extra tracing information and debug hooks,
including a complete dump of the vectored handler list on every exception and
every call to RtlAddVectoredExceptionHandler. In this trace, all calls to
RtlAddVectoredExceptionHandler appear to make sense; the call is made, and the
resulting list reflects the current call and all known preceding calls. But
then, when the exception to add the thread name is hit, a new exception handler
appears to have been added before the others without calling
RtlAddVectoredExceptionHandler.
I was able to set a watch on the list, with a condition that basically meant
"don't trip if we're in RtlAddVectoredExceptionHandler". As far as I can tell,
we're inside the RIFT executable at that point, so I'm at the end of my
abilities here.
Will attach traces with unpatched and patched Wine, plus a debug transcript for
setting the watchpoint.

This 16-bit game is from 1995, and was written for 3.1x family of windows.
"Bermuda Syndrome.zip" md5: c43b012e7342e56510983f75b91f8be3
After unzip you have to reedit BERMUDA.INI and set correct SRCPATH and DSTPATH
(Z:\path\to\BERMUDA\SCN and Z:\path\to\BERMUDA). This doesn't seem to help in
any way but the windows version in winecfg should be also set to "Windows 3.1".
Run the game in one of two ways:
1) wineconsole bermuda.bat
2) cd BERMUDA/SCN && wine BERMUDA.EXE
As of wine 1.1.20 the main menu should appear, but on mouse-hover buttons don't
enlight and are unclickable. The wine output does not complaint about anything,
output is empty, but the only way to quit is wineserver -k.
I tried running the game in dosbox/win311 environment and before the menu
appears first credits are run, which can be interrupted by mouse click. The
wine's problem maybe caused by unimplemented codecs only if this credit are
indeed a movie, but I'm not sure. I think running this game would very nicely
prove wine's claimed compatibility with pre-NT windows versions :)

run Photoshop_CS2.exe to extract files (or use unzip)
Run setup.exe, which pops up the license, and then runs the inner installer
Inner installer runs, pops up a second license.
On wine, the second one doesn't show up, and proceeds directly to the
User/Company/Serial No. screen.
I've got an automated test for CS2 install, should be ready in a day or so,
still working out the kinks...

This is a nice Deplhi-coded Windows game. But the game is affected by some
strange bugs, like bad physic (water "falling down" in left direction), ship
not rendered correctly, I can fly through solid, etc.
Note that maps are built from 3 bitmaps ([name]Back.bmp representing
background, [name]DotMap.bmp representing solid location and [name]Middle.bmp
representing solid graph) and script-like [name].map (map settings, water
placement, starting positions, etc.).
Also I can launch the game only with GDI as DirectDrawRenderer (OpenGL screws
up the window so it's unplayable).

It's possible it is the new dll that is interacting badly?

Created an attachment (id=35470)

A slightly nicer hack
This hack makes the software emulated ddraw implementation render to the device
window or clipper window. The device window is NULL in most cases, so the ddraw
app will essentially render to the screen, overwriting the content of all
Windows(including possible child Windows).
This is broken in a rather bad way, but that's what native ddraw does. It is
also broken in native ddraw, and Windows Vista and newer will disable Aero when
an app attempts to use ddraw without a clipper in Windowed mode. In Fullscreen
mode it most likely disables Aero anyway, so the apps still get away with this
behavior. The draw-to-screen behavior can be observed in the d3d7 SDK's "Font"
sample, like on this screenshot:
http://web.student.tuwien.ac.at/~e0526822/ddrawtoscreen.bmp
Drawing to the screen basically works in X11, but only as long as no
compositing Window manager is active(Compiz for example). If Compiz is enabled
the rendering will most likely go nowhere. Using a virtual desktop may also
help, this way Wine still renders to a proper X11 window from the window
managers point of view. In anyway rendering to a NULL window does not work with
opengl-accelerated ddraw or direct3d. OpenGL needs a Window to render to. The
only alternative is rendering to an offscreen buffer, but then the rendering
results don't show up either.
The hack needs improvements in a few ways:
*) Don't do this in Windowed mode, only fullscreen. If we're in Windowed mode
cling to any window the app passes to ddraw, otherwise we make bug 1347
worse(Bug 1347 is essentially the opposite of this bug, where the app doesn't
provide any Window and runs amok when locking the front buffer)
*) Test if using the device window in this way is correct. You can do this by
extending the test app and call SetCooperativeLevel with DDSCL_SETDEVICEWINDOW
and your partially obscured window, and probably pass NULL or a different
window to the DDSCL_FULLSCREEN | DDSCL_EXCLUSIVE SetCooperativeLevel call.
DDSCL_SETDEVICEWINDOW needs IDirectDraw7 I think.
*) Test what the behavior is when DDSCL_FULLSCREEN is used without
DDSCL_EXCLUSIVE.
*) Test clippers in fullscreen mode. E.g. try to set your obscured window as a
clipping window and see how Windows reacts(CreateClipper, Surface::SetClipper &
friends)

The error I get when I play a video
I am trying to run an Italian guitar course. This is a rather unknown piece of
software, and I am likely to be the only person on the planet trying to run it
under wine.
So, I am crossing my fingers where: 1) This is something that can be fixed
easily in a generic way 2) Other users have the same problem although using
different pieces of software.
The problem is only evident when I try to play a video in this course (they
show you how to play things).
Please note that this is likely to be pretty poorly written software... but you
never know.
Is there *anything* I can do to make this work? Even copy things over from a
Windows installation?
Bye!
Merc.

This bug started happening at about the same time as the 1.3.21 release. What
is happening is that the get_script_guid() function in dlls/mshtml/script.c is
being passed nsscript=NULL. This function contains the line:
nsres = nsIDOMHTMLScriptElement_GetType(nsscript, &val_str);
where nsIDOMHTMLScriptElement_GetType() is really a macro defined as:
#define nsIDOMHTMLScriptElement_GetType(This,aType)
(This)->lpVtbl->GetType(This,aType)
So being passed NULL for This is a "Bad Thing", obviously.
I have no idea *why* nsscript is NULL suddenly; presumably doc_insert_script()
is being passed NULL.

At first, i was thinking that somehow, wine64 'gets all confused' about its

loading 64bit dlls. Having a closer look at it, the program i'm running to run
is mixed 32/64bit executables and libraries. The 32bit main program pulls in a
32bit library that wants to load 64bit QT dlls. Is there a way to make it run?

As discovered by Wylda and posted on wine-devel mailing list, 32bit gcc fails
to compile a certain include statement sequence I used for my raw input patch.
Message confirming test-case failure -
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2011-June/090886.html
I fixed it by applying the following modification:
-#include <stdlib.h>

+#include <assert.h>
+#include <stdarg.h>

Looks like including "winternl.h" before "winbase.h" and "winuser.h" is
implicitly incorrect.

Audio is working fine in the main menu of the game. When you start a new game
(or the tutorial) and make your first move on the strategy board, the game
throws an error dialogue saying audio will stop functioning (see attached
screenshot about the exact text of the message).
The game doesn't crash, it keeps on running but without audio.
The game installs native openal32.dll by default. Overriding it to native is a
workaround.
I have Wine with Openal support (openal-soft-1.12.854-1.fc14 from the Fedora
repos)
My ./.alsoftrc contains:
drivers = alsa
I've tried with ALSA full / emulation settings; with OSS: the result was the
same.
Nothing relevant in the terminal while running the game.
How to reproduce the issue in the demo:
1. The installer of the demo requires at least .Net 2.0 (winetricks dotnet20).
Interesting enough, the game itself doesn't require .Net, so it can be tested
in a clean wineprefix if you copy the installed game into a brand new
prefix...it runs out-of-the-box.
2. Start a new match or the tutorial from the menu. Move one of your characters
to an available square on the table: when it reaches its destination the game
will pop up the error message and sound will be gone.

Summary: SWAT 4 does not save data properly
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: webmaster(a)geekstreak.com
SWAT 4 does not save game data properly in several areas:
Your officer name is not saved, leaving a blank space in the drop-down box
where the list of saved officer careers should be.
Progress in career mode is not saved from game to game.
Occasionally, the game will not advance the player to the next level, even if
they've passed the level, leaving the player to retry the same level until the
game lets the player advance.
Weapon loadout is not saved properly, and acts strange: sometimes the first
loadout you select is saved from game to game, sometimes your weapon loadout is
loaded for all of your squad members (most of the time, the game has a
different loadout for different members in different missions). Sometimes your
weapon loadout is never saved between games and only the default is loaded.
Weapon loadout custom names are not saved.

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #13429 +++
It was and still is not possible to enter Eudora in paid mode. I have paid for
my Eudora Pro (for over 10 years, more than 1 copy, also for many colleagues),
but since I moved from Windows XP to Ubuntu, I'm working in sponsor mode. Which
has a pesky irritating window reminding me about working in sponsor mode...
The pesky window just says "Eudora" in the window body. The window has no
title. The window can be moved around in the main Eudora window, but it is
always "on top", so also over any opened mailbox or email message, or over the
list of filters.
The pesky window forces Eudora to move its main window. That means, all other
windows with mailboxes and email messages are repositioned, and horizontal and
vertical scroll bars appear in the Eudora main window. It is irritating.

Nvidia's 270.xx.yy driver series fix the glMapBuffer alignment issues that
caused major

VBO instead of using
doublebuffered loading, which means that we fall back to the current
behavior(no dynamic VBO) as
needed. Dynamic VBOs are needed on Nvidia drivers for
GL_ARB_instanced_arrays.

Counter Strike: Source crashes for me when loading a map to be played but not
the video stress test (which runs fine). CSS crashes during the "initializing
game data" portion of the load process. I'm pretty sure this is not related to
bug 24064 since the crash occurs whether or not I have steam
in-game/gameoverlayrenderer.dll disabled. I also don't believe my crash is
related to bug 15841 since 15841 seems to be related to wine's sound
components, and I have no reason to believe that is the case here.
My graphics hardware is an ATI HD 4850 (rv770) being driven by mesa's
gallium3d. I'm experiencing the crash using mesa's software llvmpipe driver as
well, so I think that rules out the graphics driver being the culprit here.
attached should be a minidump of the crash as well as wine's output.
If I'm looking at this correctly, the minidump file points to somewhere within
the libcef.dll installed by steam/counter strike source as the problematic code
area. I'm not sure how to debug this further since my assembly foo isn't too
great.
Let me know if I can provide more information.

6b8753185f30197047773af6a26eafd34d45367c was made.
The above commit was found using a regression test between wine-1.1.25 and
wine-1.1.40. There was no particular reason for selecting these particular
releases except to have a reasonable bisect window + the fact I was using
wine-1.1.25 to run the demo _and_ the full game succesfully.

Demo source code and compiled executable
My best guess is the bug is in user32, but I'm not quite sure.
It seems that with reparented windows, child windows within them are getting
WM_MOUSEUP but not WM_MOUSEDOWN.
Here is a demo app. Yes it is in VB .NET, but it outright calls the SetParent
API call so the fact that it is .NET shouldn't matter.
Behavior on WinXP:
Press down on the button, display changes to MouseDown
Release the button, display changes to MouseUp and a message box comes up.
Bheavior on Wine 1.0rc2:
Press down on the button, nothing happens.
Release the button, display changes to MouseUp.
Wine version to emulate is set to 2000 as that is the only one for which .NET
works.

Multiples copies
The "new" Steam UI running under Wine has a weird effect when run along with a
compositing window manager. Instead of one copy of the window, multiple copies
appear tiled to the right and down. Only the top-left copy is "solid" in the
sense that it's the only one that receives events. Clicking on a copy sends the
events to the window below (another application or the desktop). All copies
reproduce the changes in the main copy.
I've reproduced this with Gnome-Shell, plain Mutter, and Metacity in
compositing mode. Metacity with compositing mode disabled doesn't exhibit this
problem.
I'm attaching a screeshot made with Gnome Shell. Metacity shows a different
effect: instead of the extra copies, it shows filled black.
Curiously in the "expose" mode of Gnome Shell (i.e. when the desktop is zoomed
out) the window appears correctly. I haven't tried similar features of the
other window managers.

To reproduce, go to view -> toolbars -> customize. On Windows, this makes it
possible to drag-and-drop the objects from the window that pops up, as well as

the tab bar. On Wine, it just shows an "action not allowed" cursor when
attempting this, and nothing happens.

This actually makes sense, although unexpected. Windows 7 doesn't start drawing
immediately for some reason. That's why you have to click. Some fiddling with
the test case should probably fix that. That's irrelevant to the bug.

This is expected. You do expect a window to come forward when you click it.
Although this only happens in virtual desktop mode.

I looked at your test case and it doesn't seem to work on windows 7. The screen
is completely gray with no animation, UNLESS I click on the part where the main
window should be. That seems to kick it off. However, clicking on the area
where the child window should be doesn't do anything (the screen stays blank).
In WINE, the animation starts immediately, although there is a black rectangle
in the top-left corner. However, when I click anywhere on the main window, the
child window is sent to the background and then animation plays out on the
whole screen. However, similar to the windows behavior, when I click on the
child window, nothing happens (the child window continues to obscure the
animation below).
Hope that helps.

Created an attachment (id=35469)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=35469)
Test case which consistently fails.
After some work with Diablo Spawn's traces I was able to find a test case which
consistently fails against current wine git.
Build with:
winegcc main.c -lddraw -lgdi32
Expected result: Flashing screen from black to white and back to black.
Wine results: Same results, except with a black square in the corner.
Now someone just have to find where in wine this bug is...
