Roy's recipe in bug 14381#14 (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14381#c14)
for installing lively includes copying msxml3 and msxml3r from windows xp.
We shouldn't need to do that.

osu! requires .NET Framework 2.0 to run, so it cannot be checked on ABSOLUTELY
CLEAR Wine (also there must be gdiplus lib override). Game wasn't installed
from original installer, I extracted it from that package -
http://tinyurl.com/osuunpack - they're absolutely identical.
Game runs, all is working properly before I select a song to play. After
selecting I can play only about 20-30 seconds, and after that music continue
playing, but there is no game window, only error screen (see attachment pic).
Also, pressing both "Restart osu!" and "Exit osu!" buttons make game restart.
My computer hardware: Processor - Intel Pentium 4 506 (overclocked to 3,66

this bug is a foobar2000 (latest version) regression. when i upgraded from
1.1.24 from 1.1.23 foobar2000 no longer worked (an apparant display issue where
everything inside the window was messed up: displays a copy of the windows
below it), you'll notice the bug right after launching the program
this was my first attempt at regression testing and i could have done it wrong!
(the last several bisects were "git bisect bad" which formed a suspicious
pattern)
in other words, this might be the wrong section of code, but i am sure this is
a regression that occured with the latest update

Rainmeter displaying no skin on the desktop.
Firstly, I've attempted to see if similar bug postings were available for these
two outputs, but my limited knowledge on the subject isn't exactly aiding the
process. I *think* posting a new bug regarding this is correct as I am somewhat
undecided on what bugs may affect the usability of Rainmeter in relation. If I
am incorrect in my synopsis, I'll gladly move this bug information elsewhere
per reasonable request.
Rainmeter is a program which displays various GUI elements within Windows,
featuring system information neatly displayed in a varying array of skinned
elements, whether they be text, abstract graphic, anime, or otherwise.
The program itself installs and loads with no issue presented, however on
loading a skin, the problem becomes very evident. A screenshot and command
prompt log are attached to this report for show. If other things are requested,
I will attach them as well.
FYI: The stability of the program seems to be reasonable, but the failed
loading of any skin I've tried (default and non-default) makes this program
virtually useless.

Older builds of X-Lite 3.0 just disappear as soon as it crashes and newer

Same problem with commercial version : eyeBeam.
You can download older build from tucows here :

Or search for X-Lite_Win32_1104o_56125_100106.exe to get newer v3.0 build.

I tried testing a couple batch scripts I use at work on wine. Since batch
doesn't have a 'sleep command', the common workaround is to use ping several
times instead, which works fine on windows. Wine, however, lacks ping, so it
fails miserably.
Implementing our own ping.exe shouldn't be too terribly hard. There are several
open source versions floating around to base the work off of. Hell, here's the
original public domain source:

Just for fairness: those who know that "app X doesn't work because of this
bug", pls do include this bug in appDB for such app. Also: those who find this
bug really important (as I do, because I do need my app running), pls consider
voting.

Summary: Starcraft II "long lances" with newer nvidia drivers?
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.20
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
Nvidia 200 series cards work fine on this game with the 195.36.15 drivers,
but with the 270.41.06 drivers, your units have
long antennae or lances (much longer than their body).
The extra-long lances throw proper shadows.
Happens back at least as far as 1.3.15, so I doubt it's a wine regression.
To reproduce,
1. launch demo
2. click "Play Skirmish"
3. click on Quicksand mission
4. click "Create Game"
5. Click on "+ A.I." (5 times, fill all six slots)
6. click on "Start Game"

When playing Shadowgrounds 1.05 if i move the mouse just a little bit it will
move a few degrees very fast, around 20 to 30 degrees. If you just try to move
it a little it will move those degrees. If you keep moving it it will move
every 1 to 2 seconds that many degrees and you move the mouse very fast to one
of the sides, like trying to point something 90 degrees of you, it will move
the mouse almost 180 degrees from the point you wanted.
The problem of some crashes has ended with the 1.3.20 i must say but am still
testing this.
I have to add the in 1.3.19 an previous the problem was that when i moved the
mouse it started doing circles around me very fast, like i was moving the mouse
very fast. Now the problem is only that it moves several degrees when i move it
around.

The capture option now works for me in UT3, but with it enabled I get excessive
mouse lag when clicking, making it difficult to simultaneously aim and shoot.
It's a slow refresh rate of the mouse, causing aim to jump about once or twice
a second while holding a mouse button. Frame rate and keyboard are fine while
it is happening.
This lag isn't an issue if the capture option is disabled. Has anyone else
noticed this? It seems to be a regression related to the fix, though I'm not
sure since I've barely touched UT3 before 1.3.20 and haven't done regression
testing yet.

""" Using Internet Explorer? There's a good chance you're not reading this. A

The source code that causes it to crash is below:
<script>for(x in document.write){document.write(x);}</script>
This one does the trick for older versions: <input type crash>
However, I have tested Wine built-in IE with several fake windows version,
such as WinXP, Win98, Vista, none of them crash. I'm not sure whether this is a
feature or a bug.
Is there any way to works around it?
A screenshot and a full log are attached.

In some applications (namely PowerDesigner, MSOffice 2007) there are GUI
controls incorrectly painted. The attached picture shows a bad and a good case.
Using git bisect I have found that problematic commit is
c29cf0591976f96c3adb30c3c3b6db59f4983251 - winex11: Add support for 32-bit DDBs
I also verified that git revert of villain patch on the current master branch
(5815b639794fa5e8e79754d86b66c6a03596731d) really corrects the problem.
I have tested that the problem is not in the placement of wine_tsx11_lock call.
I moved it before the line
if (!X11DRV_XRender_SetPhysBitmapDepth( physBitmap, bitmap.bmBitsPixel, NULL
...
but the problem remained.
Currently I have no clue where the problem could be. I will continue in
investigation, but may be someone who is more experienced could find the origin
of problem immediatelly.

Scrollbars work fine in wine-1.3.20-230-g456e48e, and the canvas draws fine.
One bug remains afaict, adjusting the window size doesn't take effect, only the
original area is filled.
That should be a new bug though, the original bug is fixed.

Hello,
--- quote ---
What's in that .exe? I'm tempted to delete it, since it's not
clear what's in it, and you didn't describe it at all.
--- quote ---
that binary is a compiled (password protected) AutoIt script.
AV scanners can't really decompile these scripts hence some flag it
precautionary as "trojan":
http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/topic/34658-are-my-autoit-exes-really-inf…
Raw scan (not unpacked):
http://www.virustotal.com/file-scan/report.html?id=9b47462b62f7a094fdab42b9…
Interestingly when I manually unpacked the thing (UPX) it gave less hits:
http://www.virustotal.com/file-scan/report.html?id=50815f7712bbbaf7dfccdca8…
Now to the real thing ... it looks to me like a script someone made to create
an inventory of Windows PCs.
1. if no parameters given -> do nothing -> exit
2. when given a "zone" command line parameter: map a Windows file server
network share from Universitat de Barcelona (spain) with hard coded credentials
(that's what I got from following DNS info)
3. run an executable from that share (from the name it looks like some kind of
inventory tool)
4. wait for some specific process to exit (probably a sub-process spawned from
the initial agent process).
5. write back a file back to a specific share location (probably inventory
list)
6. *boom* ... hehe no, just exit
Depending on the remote binaries it executes it _might_ be harmful or
legitimate.
I did not exploit the credentials to fetch the remote binaries ...
It should be deleted anyway.
Regards

"insufficient memory". When closing, the previous crash log shows up, no matter
whether ole32xxx was set to native or builtin. The OS was set to WIN98.

terminal output
Installation, starting the game and choosing a theme from the menu all works
fine. As soon as I press <Enter> to launch the ball the game freezes.
The same problem persists with Wine-0.9.47, 1.0.1, 1.2.2 and so on.
To reproduce the issue in the demo:
1. After installation start the demo by dp3d_demo.exe.
2. <New game>, then select <Amber Moon> and wait until the game is loaded. The
camera animation works and sound is playing. Press <Enter> to shoot the ball:
the game will hang (although sound is still playing on).

things... Regression, I guess. Version 1.3.18 was refreshing interface
properly.

This is a regression, see also bug 27156 . Compiling without XInput2 support
makes the jumping in WoW stop.

Fwiw, Lionel Ulmer is unlikely to fix either bug because he hasn't been active
since years.
Also the bugs aren't duplicates. They are different bugs with similar symptoms.
In this bug the app's content is visible, but the entire screen is cleared to
black once. In the other bug the app's contents never show up because they are
rendered to a window that is obscured by another window.

ReportedBy: zorael(a)gmail.com
Kubuntu 11.04, running Wine 1.3.20 with winepulse (ppa:c-korn). Dead Space 2
was downloaded via Steam and is as such up-to-date.
Since 1.3.20, and likely due to the changes to mouse clipping in that version,
the cursor jumps about furiously in Dead Space 2. Every one second precisely,
the cursor takes a jump toward the nearest edge of the screen if you're moving
it at that instant. Likewise it takes a jump whenever you click a mouse button.
The game becomes unplayable.
Noteworthy is that the game does not seem to theme and use Xorg's own cursor
("hardware cursor"), but rather hides the real one and draws its own one
in-game.
The behavior disappears if I downgrade Wine to 1.3.19. Toggling "Automatically
capture the mouse in full-screen windows" on or off does not seem to make a
difference.

Summary: Gothic III: Flickering black/textured polygones at some
places
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.15
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: svenbrauch(a)googlemail.com
At some places in the world of Gothic III, especially at towns (places with
many objects), there are polygones in the air which are either black or
textured. They are not "steady", changing the camera view and moving the hero
makes them flicker, move or change. Textured polygones are more steady and more
solid than black ones.
Looking at these polygones decreases performance of the game, the more of them
is visible, the lower the performance.
I *think* (im not sure) the appearing of these polygones is related to this
error message:
fixme:d3d_shader:shader_glsl_select >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION
(0x502) from glUseProgramObjectARB @ glsl_shader.c / 3584
which obviously doesn't say much (... or does it do?).
The polygones appear with both fbo and backbuffer offscreen rendering method.
With fbo, performance decrease is, as far as i can see, worse.
The problems are acceptable in the desert, in the ice part of the world, and
generally outside towns; towns in myrtana are kind of unplayable, full of these
things. Here's a screenshot:

crash log when run without setting WINEDEBUG
I have been running its version 3 (which I have created an entry in Wine's
AppDB) with Wine for over a year with basically no problem. Lately, the program
is upgraded to version 4 and it crashes with Wine. I tried to print out debug
messages but can't seem to get any clue about what is wrong. While I was
testing with the debug messages, an interesting thing I found is that if I run
it with the following debug setting, it runs.
WINEDEBUG=relay wine tradeblazer.exe >& test.log
I found that the program has 2 processes running (same as version 3) -- one
main program and one data server. I am guessing the comms between the 2
processes in version 4 have some syncing problem. With WINEDEBUG=relay, Wine
writes a lot of data to disk, so one process is delayed and somehow helps with
the syncing.
Attached is a log file run without setting WINEDEBUG.

Free game to download, and has penguins, so it must be awesome :).
Accept the license and start the installation. Immediately, get an error box:
trace:text:DrawTextExW L"Error opening file for writing:
\r\n\r\nC:\\Games\\TAGAP\\data\\sound\\plugins\\codec_oggvorbis.dll\r\n\r\nClick
Abort to stop the installation,\r\nRetry to try again, or\r\nIgnore to skip
this file.", -1, [(0,0)-(279,91)] 00000850
Ignoring the error, you'll get 3 more errors, all related to sound dlls
(codec_oggvorbis, codec_wav, output_dsound, output_winmm). After that,
installation seems okay, but the game doesn't run (which may or may not be
related to this bug).
Starting the game gives an error dialog saying:
Failed to unregister window class
then:
Initialization failed
but I'll hold off on filing a bug for that until this one is fixed.

Mouse input in Source Engine games(Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 2, etc)

solve the problem.

gold is a new replacement for ld which is much faster
(doesn't matter too much for wine, but it helps some
apps a lot).
Installing gold as the system linker, e.g. by installing binutils-gold
in Ubuntu Koala, and then building wine, fails with
/usr/bin/ld: -init: unknown option
Presumably this is gold's fault, but it'd be nice to have confirmation.

Hello,
--- quote ---
Is it possible to now why "it's Hard" to fix ?
Is it due to various unimplemented methods ?
--- quote ---
Well HackShield is wrapped with Themida software protection.
It's very sophisticated (has its own virtual machine/code + API emulation).
Various versions of this protection scheme are simply _broken_ for Wine beyond
fixing.
Although the company acknowledges Wine existence somehow by adding _some_ Wine
compatibility fixes, there is some intrusive stuff that can't be implemented by
simple means (if ever).
That 108 error is Themida related, most likely it encountered inconsistency
during VM/API emulation.
Don't know if AhnLab updates their malware with newer - more 'Wine friendly'
Themida versions ... thought that might happen very rarely.
Basically to work on HackShield you have to defeat (unwrap) Themida protection
first.
It can be done but this target requires a considerable knowledge and serious
waste of time.

@Jacques-Pascal Deplaix: I find that the crazy mouse jumping goes away in CoD4
if you untick the option to allow fullscreen applications to grab the mouse.
Although I guess it is true that this bug is resolved, I suspect it could be
improved further. With 1.3.17 + xinput2 patch, there was no crazy mouse
jumping, and auto-clipping was automatically enabled when the application
wanted to use the mouse to let the player control his character, but disabled
when you went back into the menus, so eg in Crysis you could press the escape
key and go to another (Gnome) window.

Since most games appear to be working, I think it's safe to mark this bug
fixed. Keep in mind, there are a few more open bugs, namely bug 27156, which
sounds like the problem most people are having with crazy jumping (Half
Life/Bioshock/etc.).
Any other problems should be tracked in separate bugs (check for dupes first).
If the behavior is different from a previous version of Wine, please run a
regression test before filing a bug:

I'm not sure if there's a way to "unlink" an application from a bug, but this
issue is also fixed with Fallout 3 in Wine 1.3.20.

STALKER: Clear Sky is also improved with git master. You still need to start
the game with "-i" to get any mouse movement at all, but now there's no need to
toggle this option on and off the get mouse movement in the inventory screen.

To have 360 rotation work properly, yes this option will need to be ticked. It
enables cursor clipping.

I filed the bug, #16572, in regards to a missing component in the
'msvcirt.dll'. However, while looking over the bug, I noticed that the
'Component' selected is incorrect. Currently, the component indicated as being
at fault with the bug is 'msvcrt.dll'. The component at fault -- and not
selectable in the 'Component' dropdown -- is 'msvcirt'. As this is the correct
component at fault for the bug I reported and a DLL of the same name is shipped
with Wine, I would suggest this DLL name, msvcirt, be added to the components
selectable on the 'Components' dropdown.

This bugs affects at least 12 different versions from at least five games from
Winning Eleven series.
To get the game running, you must:
1- Activate "Emulate virtual desktop" in Wine settings
2- Disable audio in Wine settings (as there is another bug associated with
this)
3- Run settings.exe and set resolution at 640x480, either windowed or
fullscreen
If you set resolution higher than 640x480, then the bug happens.

screenshot of non-functional Quicken 2008 Deluxe help window
In Quicken 2008 Deluxe, choosing Help > Quicken Help brings up a Quicken
Personal Finances Help window with a Contents navigation pane (good!), but it
has several problems.
1. Most serious, no matter what you click, no help appears.
2. I'm pretty sure under Windows XP Quicken Help also had the usual extra Index
and Search tabs in the navigation pane, under Wine "Contents" is the only tab.
3. All the help window icons appear as a printer icon. This sounds like bug
17021.
4, The menu items are Show Back Options Print and Jump1. I'm pretty sure Jump1
is the wrong name.
5. One of the help contents titles had & in it. I'm pretty sure that HTML
entity does not appear under Windows.
I'll upload a screenshot that shows 1-4.
After clicking help items a few times to reproduce the main, I got a series of
Crash "Com Error" dialogs, then a "Quicken has encountered an unexpected error.
Error Code: 7185", but that may be unrelated -- qw.exe is now crashing with
this every time I start it.

The url above is a link on how to patch Wine to make two games (Rail Simulator,
RailWorks) playable.
The issue is that both games call IDirectSoundBufferImpl_AcquireResources and
then crash unless the return value is DS_OK. Neither game actually calls any
related functions or requires the functionality of the real dsound function.
Upon returning DS_OK, sound works correctly in both games.
Returning DS_OK is definitely not the solution to the problem since the
function is still unimplemented but it fixes the above and maybe some other
games.

test binary
In some applications, it is desirable to temporarily redirect stdout/stderr to
a file, and then switch back to the console output. This can be accomplished
using the special file "CON", as stated at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/58667/en-us
Wine seems not to handle this as windows does:
To reproduce, please compile the following C source or run the attached binary:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <errno.h>
int main() {
errno=0;
fopen("CON", "w" );
printf("errno: %u\n", errno); errno=0;
freopen("CON", "w", stdout );
printf("errno: %u\n", errno); errno=0;
freopen("CON", "w", stderr );
printf("errno: %u\n", errno);
}
On native Windows, this outputs 'errno: 0' into the terminal three times.
On wine, it outputs 'errno: 13' (=EACCESS, permission denied) after the first
fopen. The further two output lines get lost. They're not written to named file
"CON" either.
I set the severity to normal, since I don't know another way of accessing the
console attached to the program, if stdout/stderr were redirected. Also this
might affect any SDL program, as re-redirection to the console is recommended
there (http://sdl.beuc.net/sdl.wiki/FAQ_Console). (Running SDL apps through
wine is convenient during development)
Note:
For SDL programs, however, the redirection of stdout and stderr to files can be
disabled in the first place by setting the environment variable
'SDL_STDIO_REDIRECT' to '0'.

I filed this bug against Wine-1.3.15 because later versions show bug #26903,
preventing the game from starting correctly.
The problem: the game's custom mouse pointer is invisible in the menus.
Actually, the pointer is there somewhere because I can manoeuvre the mouse over
the buttons and they become highlighted.
So after all, I can start the game. Much to my relief the mouse pointer is
showing up correctly in the main game (so only the menus are affected).
No demo available.
P.s: with the reverted commit in bug #26903 I was able to start the game in
Wine-1.3.18. Unfortunately the mouse problem became more serious: the pointer
isn't just invisible but I lost the ability to click on any buttons (mouse is
completely unusable).

Output from terminal (I broke it down to show what I saw, when I saw it

After using ProcessExplorer to figure out what it used, I used a few DLL
overrides and got the program to load it's window. After that, it locks up and
simply can't load the 3D panels in the program for some reason. I've tried all
I know so I figure it would be a good idea to tell about the bug on here (I
also submitted my test data recently, and at this current moment is yet to be
accepted).
My WINE version is 0.9.59
This is the list of DLL overrides I had to use. You will likely have to tweak
them to try getting DirectX rendering to work.

You can remove the opengl32 override from the list if you want to try DirectX
rendering. I also observed that unlike trying it in OpenGL mode, the only time
that the window loads properly under DirectX rendering mode is after first
selecting that mode, but trying to run the program again, it renders garbage
for the window.
There may be some dll's in there that are unecessary, but I grabbed the ones
that processexplorer said 3D Studio MAX was using during the time, and a few
that I thought might also be necessary for the DLL's listed to work properly.
Also, Software rendering failed, too. :(

Running Ubuntu 9.10 amd 64 with onboard Geforce 8200 running official nVidia
drivers version 185.18.36.

After starting Atlantis 3: The New World, the intro video is playing fine.
However a crash occurs when the video ends (or if I press <Esc> to skip the
video) so I can't get into the main menu.
This didn't happen in Wine-1.3.15:
60a710455ef8dd4ac38901a8741189defa427e1f is the first bad commit
commit 60a710455ef8dd4ac38901a8741189defa427e1f

wined3d: Try to evict the surface's sysmem copy in surface_load_location().
The memory may not be freed until surface destruction otherwise. The PBO
creation code in surface_prepare_system_memory() also depends on the SYSMEM
location being recreated regularly, although arguably that's just a symptom
of
the resource location management being somewhat broken.

The patch can be reverted on wine-1.3.18-170-gfa2e4bb and that fixed the
problem: the game loads up to the main menu just fine.
No demo available.
P.s: interestingly, this is the commit that fixed a very similar issue in
Salammbo (bug #25507). Both games are from the same developer/publisher and
they utilize a somewhat similar game engine.

Summary: The regression of Titan Quest game
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.56.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: barafu.albino.cheetah(a)gmail.com
People in AppDB claim that they have managed to run Titan Quest game nearly
flawless. However, with Wine 0.5.56 it fails after changing the resolution,
saying that
wine: Call from 0x7b843ad0 to unimplemented function
d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXAssembleShaderFromFileA, aborting
though the app was told to use OpenGL instead.
I guess it is a bug in DirectX implementation.

Log from the centrale crashing
Creative Centrale needed by Zen-MX player to transcode movie files fails to
install. It reports that Windows Media Format 11 Runtime is needed and will be
downloaded. Then it just waits. No crash, no error messages.
If I copy the installed application over from XP, without changing anything, I
get an "unexpected error" window. (crash log attached just in case it's
relevant)
Installing wmfdist11 seems to still fail (already known bug#10219)

Summary: America's Army 3.0 goes black after about ten minutes
of play

I installed Steam with
rm -rf ~/.wine
sh winetricks sandbox gecko corefonts steam
After disabling in-game notifications and chat in the Steam settings as usual,
I downloaded AA3 with Steam successfully.
Running crashed immediately because it needed msvcp80.dll;
winetricks vcrun2005
worked around that.
It then crashed quickly anyway (bug 19885);
running it outside Steam with
cd ~"/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/america's army
3/Binaries"
wine AA3Game.exe
worked around that.
It then started, but screen went black right after game prompted for username.
Setting a virtual desktop in winecfg worked around that.
It then ran fine for ten minutes, and then seemed to hang.
There were still sounds, so it wasn't completely hung.
This happened both times I tried it.
There was nothing suspicious on the console.
(The game suffers from The Mouse Bug, so you have to scrub the mouse around
to compensate. I haven't tried any patches or settings for this yet.
Tips for newbies: in the third part of the initial obstacle course,
you can't turn, you have to sidestep and backstep to get through the maze.
In the weapons training, use Space to pick up the weapon.)
