MCI is complex system, with 16 and 32 bit interfaces and drivers, dating back
to at least Windows 3.1. The only way any patch is going to be integrated is if
it does the right thing, and the patches here are just hacks that work around
the problem. An investigation into what exactly Windows does is necessary, and
nobody has done it yet: you'd probably have to test each Windows version
individually. It is worth noting that Heroes of Might and Magic doesn't work on
eg. Windows 2000.
In the meanwhile, Heroes of Might and Magic is a long game with a high replay
value. IMHO it is well worth the time you put into patching and compiling a
separate Wine prefix just for it.

Hello, as the title says, a self compile is crashing planescape torment. I
believe this happens on intro video, and i thought it might be useful for the
"crash on rest" bug (that is still reproducible on ppa supplied wine).
I opened a new bug since this is happening always, whether i install the
fixpack or not, so it appears another bug. Hopefully it is not just a compile
error, and it is useful.
wine head compiled with
"CC="ccache gcc -m32" LDFLFLAGS="-L./lib32" CFLAGS="-g -O0" ./configure
--verbose --disable-tests && make depend -j 3 && make -j 3"
Removed ~/.wine.
wineconfig settings different from default are virtual desktop 800x600 and

Yup. Who implied that this hack should be committed? It was purely to
demonstrate what causes the game to fail to start.
> * DirectX 10 capable nvidia cards(geforce 8+) support 1024 vertex shader

Last I checked, Wine hardcodes the constant instead of actually checking the
hardware. But what I've never understood about this bug is, lots of bugs are
filed that prevent an application or game from starting, and they might be the
only affected app/game, but people pay attention and usually attempt to fix the
problem. This bug for some reason has been demoted its entire life as
unimportant. Is it because of the complexity of it or just because it just
doesn't seem as important as a missing reference in a DLL? I would think any
known deficiency, whether a popular one or not, should be fixed simply to keep
Wine's performance as close to its targeted imitation as possible. I don't
mean this as an attack or anything, and I appreciate the HUGE undertaking of
Wine as a whole, I'm just trying to understand the politics.
Can't say that Sims 2 is too old and out of date... a lot of people still play
Sims 2 over Sims 3, if for no other reason than the massive amount of custom
content available to it, with still more being made.
Although I will admit, I don't think this bug alone will solve all the
problems. Last time I tried to implement the hack in Wine, there were reports
of some operation on stencils not being supported. This may have to do with
the visibility issues. The final glaring problem of Sims being spread eagle
and glowing I can't even begin to guess... although a similar thing happen when
a texture fails to load on an object, although that's a glowing blue effect.

Are those patches going to be integrated? I don't really like to compile wine
by myself, then I'd have to repeat the process each time upgraded package pops
up. (especially that I have some weird problems with wine1.3, so I prefer to
use wine1.2)

After upgrading wine from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 on Ubuntu 8.04.1 latest updates, every
sound-producing application I tried produced a "looping sound".
That is, a short period at the beginning of the sound, probably first sound
buffer or the whole of the sound, is repeated over and over again.
The System Monitor does not start (to kill the app) and the sound continues
even after Ctrl-Alt-BkSp (forced logout). Reboot needed.
Sound driver is either ALSA or OSS on Yamaha OPL3-SA23.
1.1.3 was tried in order to finally see this fixed :

Im trying to get Mass Effect 2 working with 360 degress mouse rotation, but I
still didnt succeed :(
I used wine 1.3.18 => didn't help at all
I applied the newest xinput2 patch
(http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=33574) to wine 1.3.17 (since the
patch isn't compatible with wine 1.3.18) and It didn't matter at all either.
The thing is, I'm running the newest Ubuntu (11.04 beta 2) which uses a very
new Xorg, and I wonder if the xinput2 patch is also compatible with this
version?
(everything else works perfectly, it's just the **** mouse rotation that makes
it SO hard to play the game)
I also tried to play Assassins Creed => same result as ME2 :(

If this is the game the OP talks about, it's an MMORPG with a subscription :
http://www.tibia.com/mmorpg/free-multiplayer-online-role-playing-game.php .
In git, the game runs fine for me. According to some comments here, this bug
was due to ORM not being supported at the time. It is the default now and runs
fine.

It looks like some of the xinput2 implementation provided by the patch went
into Wine 1.3.18. However the Wine 1.3.18 doesn't fix the issue the patch
solved in some games as noted by others.
The patch no longer applies cleanly, and I don't know the codebase well enough
to create a new one.

* it isn't about the number of vertex shaders. Only one vertex shader can be
used at a time. This is about the number of vertex shader constants(kinda like
read only global variables read by a function)
* it is not clear if the graphic bugs are caused by the hack or is entirely
unrelated. The hack is not in wine because it is an incorrect hack, not because
Sims 2 doesn't render properly with it. Even if Sims2 worked perfectly with
that hack it would not be committed.
* DirectX 10 capable nvidia cards(geforce 8+) support 1024 vertex shader
constants, so they should work around the SW vertex processing bug. This does
not apply to AMD dx10 cards.

This bug still exists. The current patch creates massive graphic flaws, and
thus has not been incorperated.
The exact bug has been identified on a similar bug on the full version of Sims
2.
Wine is limited to the number of vertex shaders supported by the graphics card
at once, while Windows can emulate as many as are requested by the program.
It would be nice to have an updated execution log.

I know I need to post a log here but haven't been able to produce one for steam
- any help on how to get the log to you guys and I'll do that ASAP.
The game is installed and I can run steam (it is currently running) however
once I click the link to play Magicka the screen pops up saying:
Preparing to launch Magicka...
that stay for a few seconds as usual - then nothing. Once that screen vanishes
the game doesn't load - and none of my computers resources are being used for
it so I know it hasn't loaded.
I looked through the bug database and have tried with the steam community off
(although that bug seems to be fixed -

There is also an error popup window window which states:

We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Summary: NtQuerySystemInformation(

and incorrect values
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.29
Platform: PC
URL: http://rh-software.com/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: ntdll
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ray(a)pobox.co.uk
CC: ray(a)pobox.co.uk
NtQuerySystemInformation( SystemProcessorPerformanceInformation, ...) has the
following issues:
1) DpcTime, IntTime, IntCount not zeroed, they need to be rather then returning
random values.
2) KernelTime should include IdleTime. This is the case on Windows as the per
CPU Idle threads run in Kernel mode.
3) the numbers returned should be 100ns ticks, not clock ticks as this is what
Windows returns.
I have worked round all 3 of these issues in my SIV (http://rh-software.com/)
program (4.01 and later). If they get fixed then please tell what will be
returned by the fixed version.
Both the __APPLE__ and the default sections need fixing starting from around
line 982 in dlls\ntdll\nt.c. The first 2 fixes are trivial and I can't imagine
the last one being too dificult. The current code seems also very strange in
that loads values into heap space when it would be much simpler and faster to
write them directly back to the user buffer.

The trouble is that the association we create for image types uses DDE, and
Wine's iexplore does not support DDE.

Install the demo, and run it. Ignore the nasty flickering (bug 26283), create
an account, login and join a match. Try holding 'w' to move forward. Your
character will move forward, but constantly starts and stops moving. Terminal
doesn't show anything related.
Additionally, the game seems to have bug 6971, but xinput2 patches didn't help.
Haven't tried the registry hacks yet, but that's a different issue.

Hi, I am about as useless at Linux as possible.
Basically, tried to install i TUnes today, everything worked and seemed to be
going normally.
The program suddenly quit and said that there were errors in the loading.
I cannot run/burn CDs and the whole thing shuts down.
Any ideas of what I can run to fix the error??
Try to really dumb the answer down too, I wont be offended.
Thanks

I agree=not fixed. Though I'm getting very strange results = Sanctum was
DEFINITELY working 100% with both mouse not leaving the game window
(full-screen no vdesktop) AND I had full rotations... (I have witness here that
assures me as well it WAS working as we both played a bit this afternoon) - but
tonight I just tried playing again, and the full rotation has once again
stopped. I haven't made any changes to the prefix or registry or anything
else... it just stopped working. Have been trying every thing I can think to to
get it working again.. no luck. The only other wine app used today was the UT3
test in it's own separate wineprefix which didn't work either :(

way they use the mouse ingame stil have the problem.

I haven't been able to make this work for years, but playing around with it, I
just found a way to trick it into docking.
On a windows system you would drag the window to one of the boarders and it
would then snap-dock to the boarder - what you need to do in wine is not to
drag the whole window, but rather click in the area to the left of the source
insight defined "min-max-close" buttons (I don't mean in the title bar, but
right under the title bar), then you can dock the window.
I tried this with the "project" window.

AFAIK the only way to create a new version of an app in the AppDB is to submit
a test result. When moving a test result the only option is to move to an
existing version. There should be an option to create a new version and move
the test result to it. It would make things easier for maintainers to separate
out test results that have been submitted for the wrong version.

George, is this regression still present? Have you filed some (another) bug

I just tried 1.3.18 (ie with the xinput2 raw mouse input enabled) and it didn't
work for Crysis. xinput2 was initialising correctly but unless I press the
mouse button, I still can't turn around 360 degrees.

Summary: Need a way to force processor affinity / or force

Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.14
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED

It does not appear possible to run a wine command with schedtool processor
affinity and have it carry on to what wine actually runs.
I tried it with steam and couldn't get it to do so in the initial command. (you
can do so after running, but then this get's very bad with full screen
games/etc)
I suggest it is added as an option in winecfg, possibly to just force single
core.

if it depend on mic volume level, you have to find out the dB values in

The DarkEngine games have a multicore bug where running the games without
affinity set to only one processor locks up the game (especially when attacking
a npc).
In windows, a affinity tool, or the task manager is used to set the process to
one processor, but in ubuntu with wine, tools like taskset, that are supposed
to do the same, don't work with wine programs.
It's hard to reproduce, but attack a npc with the bow on the first mission of
thief gold with sound set to emulated on winecfg.
and run thief with either:
taskset -c 0 wine THIEF.EXE
or
schedtool -a 0 -e wine THIEF.EXE
thief locks up.
Going to a console and checking the affinity with
taskset -c -p (pid of thief)
gives:
pid (pid of thief) current affinity list : 0,1
Obviously something is very wrong.
I have to kill wine to get my display back.
I attach a running output of thief gold after locking up.

I am trying to run "Anarchy Online" from Funcom using Wine 1.1.33 on Mandriva
2010.0 Linux. Patching works fine and when I am starting up the game the KDE
panel is still shown when going fullscreen.
The screen remains black for a long time, after that the startup logo is shown
and music can be heard (I have Pulseaudio off). As it takes a while to load up
I always become disconnected. Switching back to the original screen resolution
works fine though. I have attached my logs and hope they can be of help.

Warcraft 3 doesn't update the scene when the left mouse button is clicked, but
the in game time runs fine. When leaving the button the units jump to there
correct position.
It also seems to be the case, that the terminal from which the game was started
still has the focus, thus the keyboard doesn't work in the game. This might be
an issue in combination with twinview. But disabling twinview shows the same
pause while klicking the left mouse button.

Console log of crash with +tid, +d3dxof and +d3dxof_parsing
When launching Brigade E5, the intro movies play and then the game crashes when
it would normally be turning on the main menu. I've sorted through a +all
trace, and the only warn preceding the crash process was:
warn:d3dxof:IDirectXFileEnumObjectImpl_GetNextDataObject Object is not correct
Review the d3dxof trace shows that the parser had been reading the input file
into templates, until the one immediately before the warn. There were some heap
allocation activity when the first line in what should have been the new
template should have been detected, but I'm not sure if that is expected.
The demo available at
http://games.softpedia.com/progDownload/Brigade-E5-New-Jagged-Union-Demo-Do…
has the same problem.
I've attached a console log of the crash with traces of d3dxof and
d3dxof_parsing on.

Summary: Running any Half-Life based game in "Windowed Mode"
corrupts mouse movement
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: someprogr(a)yahoo.com
I have tried many steam games with this and many versions of Wine ranging from
0.9.48-1.1.4. For testing purposes try this with Counter-Strike Source.
To replicate:
1. Start Steam.
2. Edit parameters for Counter-Strike: -windowed
2.5 Also add any additional resolution parameters needed
3. Start Counter-Strike
4. Join server. When you spawn, or are spectating in freemode, the mouse will
automically and slowly start moving toward the top left.
To worsen this, if you move the Counter-Strike window to another location and
then go back to the game, the mouse will move at an even faster rate. This will
definately replicate it if it couldn't be replicated in the previous step.
This is reproducable every time. The in-game crosshair will always start moving
toward the top left.
NOTE: When you press escape (which takes you to the menus/etc) the mouse is
still. This problem only occurs in game when you are playing.

test MB_ERR_INVALID_CHARS
I ran the attached source code in both Wine and Windows XP environments. In
some codepages, inclueding Japanese (CP932), the result doesn't match.
For instance, Japanese Windows marks `X' (conversion fail) for 0xA0, 0xFD, 0xFE
and 0xFF. But Wine (LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8) marks `o' (OK) for them.
This only happens when I pass MB_ERR_INVALID_CHARS for MultiByteToWideChars.
This article might be help you.

Recently I played S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Shadow of Chernobyl and I needed to change
Contrls, so I went to Controls tab in settings and tried changing the buttons.
IT DID NOT WORK.
- I clicked "quick bandage" entry in both standard and laternative shortcuts
nad pressed button "B" on keyboard - it did not work and set "Pasue" value to
key bind all the time. Okay. Then - I clicked button "Cancel" in the window ..
and ..
SUDDENLY GAME FREEZED. I had to force-quit it.
Then - I wanted to launch game again, but I did not succeeded. I decided to
rebbot. After reboot - Wine did not launch again. The tray bar had new bar
"Starting stalker bla bla bla.." but nothing actually happened. Then I decided
to do it in terminal way. I inputed following and got this output:

I don't know what I did otherwise, but after tinkering with the sound some more
and once again decreasing my mic volume to 45% or so, people say my mic is a
little low (naturally) but no longer sounds horrible or breaks their sound
in-game. The self-test sounds exactly the same no matter what recording volume
is apparently, which is to say: scratchy and awful.. I'm guessing it does some
kind of gain control in the self-test that works differently than the actual
in-game chat for whatever reason. However, I had a friend send me a demo of
myself talking in game, and it sounded just fine there minus some minor buzz
which happens in windows too iirc (also after turning the recording volume and
other settings way down or off, as mentioned elsewhere on the net).
So.. consider my previous comments on this page void and probably unrelated to
wine, I suppose. Tf2 probably just does a lousy job of managing voice volumes
compared to any other recording programs used.

Summary: [Regression] Missing taskbar icon for "Progress

Product: Wine

Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine(a)cardot.net
The software I'm running is prowin32.exe (version 9.1E), which is the Progress
client environment (http://www.progress.com). This is a proprietary development
environment. I don't think there is a demo version.
I'm running the OpenEdge development environment, named Appbuilder.
The regresion is that there is no more icon in the taskbar (tested in KDE4 &
icewm), as there used to be.
As I've not used Progress during a quite long while I had to perform a large
bisection in order to find the problem. This took me a lot of time because I'm
still using an old Athlon XP 2600+...
This is a very annoying problem, as if the window gets minimised it's difficult
to restore (and even to know it is running!)
Well, it appears that the problem is caused by:

which appeared around Wine 1.2-rc1. It makes sense from what I read from the
patch, as it seems to me the owner window is an empty window: when using wine
1.3.14, I can see it in KDE4 when cycling through the applications with
ALT-TAB: I see a window named "Progress", which is not in fact visible. Whereas
with my last "good" compiled version, this "window" is not present, I can see
only "Appbuilder".
I have development skills and wish to help in solving this bug. I'm ready to
answer any question & perform any test you will need.
Thanks in advance

I've just updated today to 0.9.58 from wine 0.9.57 using the official ubuntu
repositories reported in the main page and i've found a regression regarding
quicktime (7.4).
At a first look the application seems to load fine but when i do file=>open
file... and choose a quicktime movie (it was exported from keynote in mp4 and
has points where the animation locks automatically waiting for the user to
interact: that's why i can't use linux applications to see these... they don't
support this) the quicktime window goes to the top left and after some seconds
it closes itself.
Running wine from command line reported an unhandled exception which wasn't
there till last version. and the application seems to quit before the crash
backtrace.
As a side note the only way to make quicktime even launch (and work almost
correcly till 0.9.57 except some gui glitches which are of little importance)
is loading a native gdiplus.dll.
attached is the console output.

SIV (http://rh-software.com/) can no longer access it's driver, the driver
seems to start, but there is no SIVDRIVER to \Device\SIVDRIVER mapping. I have
checked and both the IoCreateDevice() and IoCreateSymbolicLink() calls worked,
but the link is missing. This used to work with Wine 1.3.5.
Using the SIV 4.17 release you can check the MS-DOS names using
Menu->System->DOS Devices which uses QueryDosDevice( NULL, buf, 65535 ).
I have also tried to create the mapping using DefineDosDevice(
DDD_RAW_TARGET_PATH, ... ).

Summary: Wine and Dosbox use different MS-DOS (8.3) file names
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.15
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: dos
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: spammis(a)spam.la
MS-DOS and 16-bit Windows programs require file names to consist of 8 letters
followed by a 3-digit extension (known as "MS-DOS file names" in Windows 95,
sometimes also called 8.3 filenames). Wine and Dosbox both emulate MS-DOS file
names, but they do it differently.
Long name: C:\Program Files
Wine name: C:\PROG~FBU
Dosbox name: C:\PROGRA~1
Thus, a Windows program, running under Wine, may refer to a file as
"C:\PROG~FBU\SOMEFILE.TXT" whereas a DOS program, running under Dosbox using
Wine's Dosbox implementation, would know the same file as
"C:\PROG~FBU\SOMEFILE.TXT". This means trouble if the Windows and DOS programs
are trying to interact.
In order to view Wine's MS-DOS names, use certain 16-bit Windows programs (such
as the Windows 3.1 file manager).
In order to view Dosbox's MS-DOS names, use "DIR" in Dosbox or any DOS program.
Dosbox only uses MS-DOS names, so it won't show any other names.

ReportedBy: kennybobs(a)o2.co.uk
When Windows creates 8.3 names for long file names, it does so in the form
Progra~1 and increments the number by one with each new creation of a similar
filename.
So,
Program Files --> Progra~1
Programmers --> Progra~2
Program Blah blah --> Progra~3
and so on.
Under Wine, the 8.3 filenames seem somewhat random (PROG~HAE for example).
Is it possible to implement this behaviour?
It would make it easier to guess short path names, which makes it easier to add
paths to the registry (when needed for workarounds, for example).

Summary: when /dev/input/event* device is accessible, wine
fails to consider calibration and correction factors
of the linux joydev driver
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.40
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: corvus-wine(a)cybertrench.com
Created an attachment (id=26862)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=26862)
joydev log with event file accessible
Linux provides the possibility to correct joystick raw values automatically
when accessing /dev/input/js* devices, both autodetected/scaled and
"hand-calibrated" with tools like "jscal"
if wine uses /dev/input/js* for joystick access, it also takes the correction
factors into account, so a joystick that has been calibrated under linux, will
be calibrated correctly under wine.
However if the /dev/input/event* file corresponding to the joystick device is
accessible (at least for reading) wine seems to bypass the joydev driver and
accesses the device on a lower (event) level, thus unaware of the calibration
data and correction factors - whether manually set and autodetected!
As a result programs run under wine that use a joystick but offer no inbuilt
calibration option (which is most, since under native win32 joysticks are
calibrated system wide in the input device area of the control center) will
behave strangely as joysticks are potentially off-centered - mis-scaled - axis
flipped - or even unable to cross the zero position at all.
Depending on the actual joystick hardware and the required corrections.
the attached log1.txt shows the output of a joystick using program (il2fb
flightsim) started with dinput WINEDEBIUG output grep'd for "joydev" when the
event device is accessible (and the joystick is unusable due to miscalibration
> WINEDEBUG=+dinput wine il2fb.exe 2>&1 |grep joydev
log2.txt shows the same output with /dev/input/event5 (the joystick event
device) chmodded to 000
in this case the axis and buttons are mapped completely different, but centered
and scaled correctly (given that the jopystick had been calibrated under linux
using jscal)
for obvious reasons this bug is only visible if the axis values reported by the
event device, especially min and max:
...
> cur=97, min=0, max=255, fuzz=0, flat=15
...
are not equal to the actually reachable minimum and maximum values.
newer joysticks often autoscale in hard/firmware and actually reach those
min/max values with little need for calibration, while some, especially older
models, are in dire need of correction values since the actual range (as in
this case) is more like 30 to 120

A demo file that when run causes css to crash
This demo when run on my pc causes Counter Strike Source to crash everytime.
Unless I have the windows version set to Windows 98 or I have a resolution that
is not "native".
This means if I have my resolution set to 1680x1050 or 1400x1050 it will crash
but if I have it set to 1280x1024 or 1024x768 it works fine with no problems.
Someone has already mentioned this earlier though about the resolution problems

Summary: Random Crashes in Sacred 2
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.41
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: JakobRau(a)web.de
When playing sacred 2. from time to time wine crashes (sometimes in game
(singleplayer and LAN), sometimes in the menu). It does not happen too often,
but it is still annoying.
I am using Wine 1.1.41. on Ubuntu Lucid.
I am starting the game like this:
WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/sacred2 wine sacred2.exe
WINEDEBUG=+relay wouldn't work, but I hope you can get some stuff out of the
logfile anyway. If you can help me getting it to start with +relay, I will be
happy to post the log.

Like in comment 72, sending pkill -CONT "hl2.exe" is a good workaround. You
only have to issue it once when it freezes, after that it works for as long as
you play. I played 3 hours straight when I figured this out(I was so glad to
have finally found a way to make it work).
Just SSH in from another computer(a laptop nearby comes in handy), then launch
the game from Steam. As soon as it hangs, issue the 'pkill -CONT "hl2.exe"'
command. Then you can close the SSH, if you want.

Summary: Occasional sock_check_pollhup() error on Solaris

Additional sock_check_pollhup() traces
On Solaris 10u5 I would sometimes get the following error:
sock_init: ERROR in sock_check_pollhup()
Apparently I'm not the only one since it's present in the log of bug 18334
(although that bug is about something else entirely).
I have now found a way to reliably reproduce it on my system which is to run
the following WineLib command:
./wine memtest.exe.so mmap 50 100
Of course make sure that the wine server is not running yet.
The purpose of sock_check_pollhup() is to figure out what poll() does when a
socket is closed. The error happens because the poll() call that immediately
follows a shutdown() call returns no event.
I then discovered that giving poll() a 1ms timeout fixes this problem although
it still runs in 0.014 to 0.046ms.
Note that strictly speaking poll() is allowed to return nothing when given a
0ms timeout: 'if timeout is 0, poll() returns immediately', which it does.
Still it's annoying and could well be considered a poll() bug.
The workaround seems ok though, especially since this is in code that's only
invoked at startup.

According to a mesa developer the problem is that current mesa git master
implements ARB_texture_rg and wine thinks it also support R16G16_FLOAT

Indeed when disabling such mesa extension with the env variable:

Other than the warning I see no obvious visual differences. I am using wine

little blue-background icons ( see screenshot ). Ine Wine, these icons are
corrupted, with more and more random color points from bottom to top.
Interestingly, Bug 421's DIB engine solves the problem. So if one is able to
figure out which type of operation is involved, it should be trivial to fix it
!
Unfortunately traces are so big and make the app so slow that it is impossible
to get any clues from it.
Attached screenshot shows side by side left the regular wine drawing, with
bogus icons, and right the dibengine one

being unable to load the curses library, wineconsole doesn't try the window

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: misha-cn-ua(a)ya.ru
This bug occurs in every application, written using AlphaControls from
http://www.alphaskins.com
The problem: skins in that controls usually consist of indexed 8-bit bitmaps,
which at runtime are converted to 24-bit, splitted into parts and used to draw
controls. Under Wine such conversion results to messed up display, the
program's interface is very poor.
A workaround is to manually convert skin bitmaps to 24-bit, then program work
almost normally, however there some other glitches (track bars).
The easiest way to show the bug is to run AlphaControls demo application under
Wine. That demo can be freely downloaded from this page:

Proposed patch for fixing the issue
When wineconsole is launched implicitly, when an application in wine opens a
console, it currently defaults to using the user backend of wineconsole,
without any possibility of changing which backend to use.
The console application to launch can be changed using the WINECONSOLE
environment variable, and wine appends --use-event=xx to that command line when
launching the console program. Setting WINECONSOLE to "wineconsole
--backend=curses" is ignored, since wineconsole chooses the user backend as
soon as the --use-event argument is parsed. This isn't necessary, since the
user backend is the default one. By removing the explicit setting of the user
backend when parsing the --use-event argument, choosing another backend through
the WINECONSOLE environment variable works as expected.
The attached patch implements this proposed change.

type support is still to be improved (inherited classes should be fine (to be
