I can confirm that there never was a problem with the demo version.
Unfortunately I broke my Future Cop CD in two (not on purpose ...), so I cannot
test it anymore.
I'm reopening this bug until someone can confirm that the full game is working.

Wine output when running SAS
I'm always getting this crash when trying to start SAS 9.1.3 with Wine 1.3.19.
SAS was working with Wine 1.2.2.
I've tried with a completely clean user, and it still crashes.
I'm attaching the Wine output when running SAS. Please ask if I can do
something else to help. (There are illegal versions of SAS on Bittorent, if you
want to try... ;-)
Thanks for the hard work BTW - running such a beast as SAS for Windows on Linux
is an incredible challenge, and I was astonished when I saw it actually worked
(sometimes better than on Vista)!

Still an issue in wine-1.3.19-203-gf555c2d: the game hangs at the splash
screen, spamming the console with:
err:gstreamer:push_data Sending returned: -2
As a workaround, I had to disable in-game music via the registry: under
'HKCU/Software/Malfador Machinations/Star Fury/' the 'Play Music' registry
value must be changed to 'false'.
Afterwards the game starts but the screen is mainly black: I had to change ORM
to backbuffer. The game is kinda slow, though.
I wouldn't be surprised if this one and bug #9059 were about the same problem:
both games are from the same developer and disabling music work arounds the
initial startup problem in both games.
In-game music files are encoded in MP3 format: 44,1 kHz, Stereo, CBR 128 Kbps.
They also contain some id3 tags: artist, album, genre.
I've tried the full version of the game (v1.17), with only built-in dlls in
use.

There appears to be a regression in 1.3.18 for Raven Shield. In 1.3.17 and
earlier, setting MouseWarpOverride to force worked perfectly, but in 1.3.18 and
1.3.19 it doesn't work at all. The cursor is stuck in the middle of the main
menu and the mouse escapes. The keyboard cannot be used to navigate the menu,
so it's now unplayable.
I also have Unreal Tournament 3 and I haven't noticed any change in this bug
for it. In this case MouseWarpOverride force works as before: prevents mouse
from escaping, but locks it to center of menus and requires keyboard
navigation.

Will wine partial implement a buitin mfc42.dll to make freegate working?

Is it possible to now why "it's Hard" to fix ?
Is it due to various unimplemented methods ?

Did it actually apply? It didn't for me, had to change all lines manually.
Also, what is your xserver version?

Thanks a lot for replying!
Well since you had a positive result I tried it again and I also tested ME2 in
a virtual desktop, result:
wine 1.3.17 + dinput2 patch => NO 360 degrees rotation
wine 1.3.17 + dinput2 patch + virtual desktop => NO 360 degrees rotation
wine 1.3.18 => NO 360 degrees rotation
wine 1.3.18 + virtual desktop => NO 360 degrees rotation
wine 1.3.19 => NO 360 degrees rotation
wine 1.3.19 + virtual desktop => NO 360 degrees rotation
In conclusion I don't know how your setup differs from my setup, but apparently
there is something that is making my setup fail :(
It might be that the applied Ubuntu patches broke something that the Gentoo
kernel left intact. Or perhaps you compiled your kernel with different
parameters than the default Ubuntu kernel build, which just make the
difference. but I'm out of ideas :(
If you find anything special about your kernel or Xorg build, please let me
know!
some more info about the patched wine 1.3.17:
I downloaded wine 1.3.17 from sourgeforge and patched wine 1.3.17 using the
following commands:
patch -p1 < lib/wine-src/extracted/wine-1.3.17
./configure
make -j 4
And then I set the the correct wineprefix (using 'export
WINEPREFIX=/dir_to_wine_prefix' )
and I ran ME2 using this new wine (when I'm in the correct dir) using its
absolute path, as in:
~/lib/wine-src/extracted/wine-1.3.17/wine "MassEffect2.exe"
If anyone has a working Ubuntu 11.04 + wine + ME2 setup please let me know!

Summary: fomit-frame-pointer causes crash in iexplore and WoW
Launcher
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.5
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ranguvar(a)archlinux.us
I noticed this problem when using GCC 4.6, but it seems that is due to
-fomit-frame-pointer being enabled when it was not before, as GCC 4.5 also
fails using that option specifically.
This is from a 64-bit GNU/Linux distro, compiling Wine with 32-bit libraries
for running 32-bit programs.
Compiler options were "-march=x86-64 -O0 -pipe -ggdb -fomit-frame-pointer"
I found the problem when running World of Warcraft's Launcher program, but it
seems the problem is in anything dealing with web page viewing, as iexplore
also dies instantly.
The output from WINEDEBUG=+mshtml WINEPREFIX=/home/ranguvar/.winenew wine
winedbg iexplore is here: http://pastebin.com/9xx1Xg0N
This is with Gecko 1.2.0, without Gecko pages will not load in the first place.

I downloaded the sources and found the caller wxWindowMSW::MSWOnDrawItem()
here:
http://trac.wxwidgets.org/browser/wxWidgets/branches/WX_2_8_BRANCH/src/msw/…
It seems the bitmap rectangle calculation is tries to use a bmpsize (0,0)
which results in empty rectangle.
hbitmap == HBMMENU_CALLBACK -> MENU_GetBitmapItemSize -> WM_MEASUREITEM -> app
returns cx = cy =0 because it doesn't handle WM_MEASUREITEM at all (defers to
default winproc).
The reason is this code:
http://trac.wxwidgets.org/browser/wxWidgets/branches/WX_2_8_BRANCH/src/msw/…
(id -> wParam)
WM_MEASUREITEM Message MSDN doc:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb775925.aspx
--- quote ---
wParam
Contains the value of the CtlID member of the MEASUREITEMSTRUCT structure
pointed to by the lParam parameter. This value identifies the control that sent
the WM_MEASUREITEM message. If the value is zero, the message was sent by a
menu. If the value is nonzero, the message was sent by a combo box or by a list
box. If the value is nonzero, and the value of the itemID member of the
MEASUREITEMSTRUCT pointed to by lParam is (UINT) –1, the message was sent by a
combo edit field.
--- quote ---
MENU_GetBitmapItemSize -> HBMMENU_CALLBACK -> WPARAM must be _zero_ for
WM_MEASUREITEM.
If you fix that the app works fine (displays menus).

This breaks applications that rely on redownloading a file even if it is

The windows of SimSig (Scrolly sims) do not have the correct size in Wine. This
is no problem for me.
Since Wine 1.3.9, I can't resize the message window anymore: any attempt to do
will hang the program. The automatic scrolling does not work OK with the
standard size. In Windows (XP and Vista tested), it does not have problems
resizing. Resizing other programs and SimSig's main view is still OK.
In Wine 1.3.8 it worked fine.

Hello,
--- quote ---
The new version (14.0.1383.0530) of FolderShare relies on more unimplemented
WINE features than the old version does. I don't have the old binary anymore,
but you can download the new one at http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=7580407
--- quote ---
I filed bug 26992 for the crash.
Has anyone an older FolderShare installer?
Is that crash reproducable with 1.3.19?
If yes, provide logs or the installer.
If no, close the bug.

Summary: Wine does not build on amd64 when linking to 32-bit
libmpg123
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.29

OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: build-env
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: scott(a)open-vote.org
I'm not 100% sure this isn't a distribution issue, however I couldn't think of
anything else to do so I'm reporting it here in case there's something obvious
in Wine I've missed.
Essentially, I've added libmpg123-dev to the build depends in the latest Wine
package, and it seems to build fine on i386:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31760091/buildlog_ubuntu-karmic-i386.wine1.2_…
However, doing the same thing on amd64 generates a build failure, even after
I've added a 32 bit version of libmpg123-0 to the ia32-libs package (and thus I
have /usr/lib32/libmpg123.so, /usr/lib32/libmpg123.so.0, and
/usr/lib32/libmpg123.so.0.14.3)
Configure detects /usr/include/mpg123.h as usable, however build later fails
with: mpegl3.o: In function `MPEG3_Reset':
/build/buildd/wine1.2-1.1.29/dlls/winemp3.acm/mpegl3.c:401: undefined reference
to `mpg123_feedseek'
You can see the build log here (compare with the first one above) -- search for
mpg123 to get to the relevant stuff:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31759796/buildlog_ubuntu-karmic-amd64.wine1.2…
If it's relevant, the libmpg123 version is 1.7.2

it'd be cool to have a column for rating so you can see how many
of their games are platinum.
And then it'd also be cool to be able to have a column in
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=vendor
showing how many games from that vendor are platinum.
And, to complete the dream, it'd be cool to have a fiter

apps rated platinum.

This is next-gen of #26265 which was, mostly wrong, belived to be a duplicate
of #23048. It seems that game also affected by #23048 anyway, but futher
investigation required.
Environment: Steam installed Bulletstorm, winetricks xact physx vcrun2005 gfw
HD4570, fglrx-11.2
I'll attach two WINEDEBUG="+d3d,+d3d_caps,err+all" logs. First comes from
vanilla wine and ends with X11_CritSection hanging up. By some lines right
above hang you may see, that process actually crashed, but debugger is messed
up. Right above debugger messages, there is two lines:
trace:d3d:context_destroy_fbo_entry Destroy FBO 7
trace:d3d:context_bind_fbo glBindFramebuffer() call ok.
By trivial TRACE into context_bind_fbo you may check, that binded FBO is also
7. Fglrx seems not to have any additional checks, so it simply locks down,
dumps some garbage on screen and finally bails out. Only console-reset
(ctrl+alt+f1 and back) and wine kill may recover it from this state.
Second log is from hacked wine, with context_destory_fbo call in
context_destroy_fbo_entry commented out. As you may see, game proceeds some
futher - it shows terribly miscolored scene and suggest to "Sign In", crashing
afterwards (after trying to acquire NULL context target)
Second crash may be because a hack, but first is almost sure not-fglrx related.
Maybe nvidia just checks buffer existence before binding it? Anyway, same log
from NVidia user whould be useful.

I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.11 + XQuartz-1.4.2-apple44 (also compiled by hand)
any other applications (except wine) cooperate with Xorg nicely, opengl
working, everything's fine.
However if I try to run any application, even notepad, I get hundreds of
messages:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Maximum number of clients reached
I included part of output as attachment.
Also, sometimes after closing wine & wineserver I'm not able to run any other
application in Xorg anymore, I must restart Xorg. But that's not always the
case.

I have a Ubuntu Desktop with 2 Desks, left and right.
I launch EPIM on the right desk (because of a bug I'm going to report

After a few minutes of working with other programs, and/or switching desks,
and/or working with EPIM (involving opening of popup windows, but always
keeping the app in the right Desk), EPIM autonomously moves to the left
desktop.

The game starts up, changes the resolution and then crashes.
Slowing down the execution (for example by using strace or WINEDEBUG=all)
reveals, that a small window with three buttons on the bottom, one of which
being "Start Game", appears for a very brief moment before it closes again and
the game switches to fullscreen mode. The content of the window is not visible.

The shell32 appbar test fails in a wine configured with --with-wine64. (An
existing 64-bit process may need to also be running.)
This is probably because shell32.dll is 32-bit and explorer.exe is 64-bit,
meaning the structures they use to communicate differ in size.

The first option, Common Tools, will not load from main menu.
This is a practice program for the Architectural Record Exam - required by all
persons seeking an architectural license. The testing organization, NCARB (see
above), only provides a 16-bit version of this program which is incompatible
with 64-bit systems. NCARB has not, and appears to have no plans to updated
this software. Therefore, anyone with such a system must install a virtual
machine and run an earlier version of Windows to operate.
If this program could be made stable on Linux, Linux would become a very
attractive alternative for that anyone without access to an earlier Windows OS.
At the above website, there are six other practice programs. Unknown what
issues may exist with these.

0) In gdb proxy mode the replies to "query packets" are constructed in
programs/winedbg/gdbproxy.c:packet_query(). The reply to qOffsets is based on
gdbctx->wine_segs (that reply has the form: Text=[...];Data=[...];Bss=[...]).
1) As far as I can see gdbctx->wine_segs is never properly set, so the reply
seems to be (basically) random.
2) If the above is correct, the code needs a patch. I have no idea to what
value(s) gdbctx->wine_segs should be set, so I can't draft that patch.

There is no charset translation for windows applications that output to
standard output (console). This may be tested with country specific (Polish)
RAR.EXE executables found in WinRar. Instead of native characters I see
garbage.
If it is not possible to detect charset for non-gui output, there could be a
registry key for default charset. Windows has option to select default charset
for non-unicode programs in Regional Settings, so I think this can be used.
(btw. with wineconsole everything is fine)

Patch fixing this behaviour with a testcase
Europeans write dates generally as dd-mm-yyyy. This makes sense. So does
yyyy-mm-dd. Native will parse dates written yyyy-mm-dd correctly. Wine for some
reasons assumes they are yyyy-dd-mm. This is not a date ordering used anywhere
as far as I know and contradicts the MS behaviour.

It's not possible to play The Typing of the Dead with wine-1.1.23 because it
freezes either during the intro video or upon the attempt to skip it.
This bug has something to do with the sound. Switching off all sound drivers in
winecfg acts as a workaround. It's definitely related to Bug 2361 but it's not
a duplicate because the symptoms are different.

the dlls of a process posses a mapping instead of the original file object. The
consequence is that the only info about the fd is the the one contained in
mapping->fd, which is created by dup_fd_object. This copy does not include
fd_ops. Since commit

server: Fix sharing parameters for debug event files, and don't fail if
the file can't be opened.
this causes a crash in wineserver if programs are executed in the Borland
Delphi debugger. This is because the "hFile" object returned in the debugging
event refers to duplicate (again created by dup_fd_object) of mapping->fd.
Borland Delphi then tries to use SetFilePointer() and ReadFile() on that
object, and at that time, wineserver dereferences the NULL fd_ops in the fd
object and crashes.

Hello,
--- quote ---
Don't know if it really helps, I can't find any errors in the log file, but
ratDVD is stuck in a loop at the end of the process.
--- quote ---
Well the start and the cancel request can be seen in log (~35 mins conversion
time?).
Everying thereafter is just cleanup - including removing the already converted
movie parts.

Does the content of "C:\\users\\promi\\Temp\\XEBCore.log" tell anything useful?
The app is heavily multithreaded which leads to lot of interleaving trace
messages (sometimes hard to decipher).
When providing logs please make sure you create them with:
WINEDEBUG=<channels> wine ./foo.exe >>log.txt 2>&1
to avoid interleaving stuff.

Hello,
--- quote ---
Crashes for me on start in 1.3.17.
--- quote ---
yep, there is an initial crash preventing the game to load which needs to be
fixed first.
IDirect3D3::EnumDevices calls the app supplied callback two times.
It seems the game doesn't like IID_IDirect3DRGBDevice and resets some internal
data structures - one of them is a pointer to an internal device string
"D3D-display".
When the enumeration callback is called a second time for
IID_IDirect3DHALDevice, the app code tries to do some search/replace on that
string - but the pointer member was reset by the first callback call (NULL).

--- snip dlls/ddraw/ddraw.c ---
If you reverse the order of callback calls (IID_IDirect3DHALDevice first,
IID_IDirect3DRGBDevice second), the game starts successfully and seems playable
again.
Though it crashes at exit (which seems to be another bug) and the load savegame
bug of course.

Anything bogus from UuidCreateSequential() is most likely not the cause for the
error.
The code following checks the first 3 bytes of uuid->Data4 for constant values
(0x00,0x03,0xFF) probably to detect some virtual network adapters from PC
emulators (like VirtualPC).
After that it processes internal data and calculates something like a checksum.
Prelimary debugging though the code mess pinpoints the validation failure
between checkpoint LP5 and LP6.
The internal error code is 0x17 - it is never printed but one can see it in
debugger data/code string references.
CCx,LPx = some Armadillo internal mechanism to track the stage of protector
initialization.
Will revisit later ...

Hello,
the initial (RAS) problem is long gone so this bug is about main window state
not retained when popup windows are closed.
To reproduce just fill in some values, "connect" and cancel connection.
Close/minimize buttons are not be restored and the main window focus is gone.

ratDVD produces output and doesn't crash, there is nothing in the wine console
output.
It decodes 99% of my test file, but it seems to be stuck in an infinite loop at

I can still press the Cancel button, but it is impossible to get the last few

I need a little help here. I can't patch Wine 1.3 as it has a weird bug - HoMM1
screen displays only a upper-left quarter of the proper graphics scaled to full

bit so let me provide the patch, it was applied to the version
1.2.2-1ubuntu1~maverick2 from ubuntu-wine PPA.
Now when I try to run wine, I get this:

That's a CodeWeavers limitation of being sensitive to that kind of
consideration. It doesn't necessarily hold for Wine in general. In the general
case you just need to find someone who's willing to spend a couple of months
implementing this, either because that person really likes Sims 2 or because
code generation is interesting, and actually has a chance of getting the work
committed.

We don't need SW emulation for fragment shaders. Windows doesn't offer that, at
least not in a way that it can be used for "productive" playing(there's the
refrast, but it is not a replacement for GPU fragment processing).
But still you want a fairly sophisticated solution for SW shaders that includes
generating x86 / x86_64 code. An interpreter will probably not give satisfying
performance, especially on older hardware where SW vp is intended to replace
missing GPU functionality. So LLVM sounds like a good idea. Integrating LLVM
into Wine is already a challenge.
The other challenge is integrating SW shaders into the existing wined3d
codebase in a clear way. The SW shader stuff should be a new shader backend,
and you'll have to make sure the shader input(Steam sources) are read properly.
The shader output(processed vertices) has to be passed to the opengl fixed
function pipeline. The gl pipeline has to be set up in a way that the processed
vertex data is passed through to the fragment pipeline properly, similarly to
how RHW vertices are treated now.
Wrt Microsoft Office & friends: Yeah, there are monetary incentives for that.
Lots of CodeWeavers customers use that app. Wrt WoW, the fixes are likely to
benefit other apps. Monetary incentives could help Sims 2 as well, but the
amount we're talking about would probably in the tens of thousands of dollars
given the amount of work needed for SW vertex processing.

Well, the way to fix this is to implement support for software shaders. That
shouldn't be terribly hard, but still at least a couple of months of work for
vertex shaders, and probably more than that for fragment shaders. You'd
probably want to use LLVM.

I think (B) is not very relevant. There are a lot of fixes made to run a single
piece of software (ex: WOW or Microsoft Word), that probably affects only the
single app or just a simple subset.
I know I'm just voicing my frustration here. There is little save putting a
small reward that I can do to help this bug fix, but is the single bug that
refrains me from migrating my girlfriend's computer to ubuntu, as she is a very
avid sims 2 gamer (and doesn't like sims 3 -too many micropayments, and too
much money invested on previous game-). I can replace office, and teach her to
use shotwell to manage her photo collection, but if she has to reboot to play
the sims 2, is no use.
Many sims 2 players are like my girlfriend, avid fans, but no tech skills (I'm
no programmer myself).
A suggestion... There's any mechanism for offering bounties for bugfixing?
Maybe, while we cannot offer tech expertise, we can offer a monetary
compensation...

Where would that be? Wined3d reads the constants from the opengl library. It
subtracts a number of constants from the available ones on certain drivers(e.g.
fglrx and OSX) where we know that the driver needs some for its own purposes.
This doesn't change the number of constants that is advertised to the d3d app
though. The driver reserved constants are there to avoid GLSL compile errors
with shaders that use indirect addressing(and thus potentially use all
available constants)
We do limit the hardware shader constants to 256 in d3d9 and d3d8 because there
are some games that break if more constants are supported.
d3d9:Set*ShaderConstantF rejects constants >= 256 as well. This seems incorrect
with software vertex processing and we should probably change the check a bit.
(e.g. check against the HW capabilities, and if hardware VP is used cap the
constants at 256, otherwise 8192)
> But what I've never understood about this bug is, lots of bugs are

There are three things in play here: (a) the effort needed for a proper fix,
(b) the limited effect on other games(we'd probably just fix a single game) and
(c) that implementing a proper fix requires a lot of knowledge how wined3d
works.
(a)+(b) prevent the main wined3d developers from working on this bug, (c) makes
it unlikely that a new volunteer shows up and writes a patch.

MCI is complex system, with 16 and 32 bit interfaces and drivers, dating back
to at least Windows 3.1. The only way any patch is going to be integrated is if
it does the right thing, and the patches here are just hacks that work around
the problem. An investigation into what exactly Windows does is necessary, and
nobody has done it yet: you'd probably have to test each Windows version
individually. It is worth noting that Heroes of Might and Magic doesn't work on
eg. Windows 2000.
In the meanwhile, Heroes of Might and Magic is a long game with a high replay
value. IMHO it is well worth the time you put into patching and compiling a
separate Wine prefix just for it.

Hello, as the title says, a self compile is crashing planescape torment. I
believe this happens on intro video, and i thought it might be useful for the
"crash on rest" bug (that is still reproducible on ppa supplied wine).
I opened a new bug since this is happening always, whether i install the
fixpack or not, so it appears another bug. Hopefully it is not just a compile
error, and it is useful.
wine head compiled with

Yup. Who implied that this hack should be committed? It was purely to
demonstrate what causes the game to fail to start.
> * DirectX 10 capable nvidia cards(geforce 8+) support 1024 vertex shader

Last I checked, Wine hardcodes the constant instead of actually checking the
hardware. But what I've never understood about this bug is, lots of bugs are
filed that prevent an application or game from starting, and they might be the
only affected app/game, but people pay attention and usually attempt to fix the
problem. This bug for some reason has been demoted its entire life as
unimportant. Is it because of the complexity of it or just because it just
doesn't seem as important as a missing reference in a DLL? I would think any
known deficiency, whether a popular one or not, should be fixed simply to keep
Wine's performance as close to its targeted imitation as possible. I don't
mean this as an attack or anything, and I appreciate the HUGE undertaking of
Wine as a whole, I'm just trying to understand the politics.
Can't say that Sims 2 is too old and out of date... a lot of people still play
Sims 2 over Sims 3, if for no other reason than the massive amount of custom
content available to it, with still more being made.
Although I will admit, I don't think this bug alone will solve all the
problems. Last time I tried to implement the hack in Wine, there were reports
of some operation on stencils not being supported. This may have to do with
the visibility issues. The final glaring problem of Sims being spread eagle
and glowing I can't even begin to guess... although a similar thing happen when
a texture fails to load on an object, although that's a glowing blue effect.

Im trying to get Mass Effect 2 working with 360 degress mouse rotation, but I
still didnt succeed :(
I used wine 1.3.18 => didn't help at all
I applied the newest xinput2 patch
(http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=33574) to wine 1.3.17 (since the
patch isn't compatible with wine 1.3.18) and It didn't matter at all either.
The thing is, I'm running the newest Ubuntu (11.04 beta 2) which uses a very
new Xorg, and I wonder if the xinput2 patch is also compatible with this
version?
(everything else works perfectly, it's just the **** mouse rotation that makes
it SO hard to play the game)
I also tried to play Assassins Creed => same result as ME2 :(

If this is the game the OP talks about, it's an MMORPG with a subscription :
http://www.tibia.com/mmorpg/free-multiplayer-online-role-playing-game.php .
In git, the game runs fine for me. According to some comments here, this bug
was due to ORM not being supported at the time. It is the default now and runs
fine.

It looks like some of the xinput2 implementation provided by the patch went
into Wine 1.3.18. However the Wine 1.3.18 doesn't fix the issue the patch
solved in some games as noted by others.
The patch no longer applies cleanly, and I don't know the codebase well enough
to create a new one.

Word automatically substitutes ==> with a bold arrow. Word in wine won't

Instead, a different character is displayed, as shown in the attached

This issue is very annoying when printing such a document with wine.

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Steps to reproduce:
1) Start winecfg
2) Go to Audio tab
3) Select (any) audio driver (example below with ALSA Driver)
4) Click Apply
5) Click Test Sound
Result:
No sound is played
Expected Result:
Sound is played
Interestingly sound works just fine in wine applications (tested with winamp).
So this points to some problem in winecfg.
This has not worked for me since at least 1.3.10.
WINEDEBUG=coreaudio+all winecfg gives:

* there's not really a point in attaching new logs. The cause of this problem
is well understood
* it isn't about the number of vertex shaders. Only one vertex shader can be
used at a time. This is about the number of vertex shader constants(kinda like
read only global variables read by a function)
* it is not clear if the graphic bugs are caused by the hack or is entirely
unrelated. The hack is not in wine because it is an incorrect hack, not because
Sims 2 doesn't render properly with it. Even if Sims2 worked perfectly with
that hack it would not be committed.
* DirectX 10 capable nvidia cards(geforce 8+) support 1024 vertex shader
constants, so they should work around the SW vertex processing bug. This does
not apply to AMD dx10 cards.

This bug still exists. The current patch creates massive graphic flaws, and
thus has not been incorperated.
The exact bug has been identified on a similar bug on the full version of Sims
2.
Wine is limited to the number of vertex shaders supported by the graphics card
at once, while Windows can emulate as many as are requested by the program.
It would be nice to have an updated execution log.

I know I need to post a log here but haven't been able to produce one for steam
- any help on how to get the log to you guys and I'll do that ASAP.
The game is installed and I can run steam (it is currently running) however
once I click the link to play Magicka the screen pops up saying:
Preparing to launch Magicka...
that stay for a few seconds as usual - then nothing. Once that screen vanishes
the game doesn't load - and none of my computers resources are being used for
it so I know it hasn't loaded.
I looked through the bug database and have tried with the steam community off
(although that bug seems to be fixed -

We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Everything seemed to work under wine 1.0.1 and this problem is not present
under Windows XP.

Armalyte is the PC remake of a classic C64 arcade game.
The game doesn't produce any console output but it hangs after starting
(consuming 100 % CPU power).
The same behaviour in Wine-1.0.1, 1.2.3 and so on.
Workaround: native msvcrt.dll (the game starts and runs fine with it).
Here I attached a log containing +msvcrt,+file traces. It was created by
starting the game, waiting for 10 seconds and aborting the unresponsive game.
In the log the following message is repeated over and over again:
trace:msvcrt:read_i already at EOF, returning 0
