Nitpicking... It's certainly not fixed.
http://bugs.winehq.org/page.cgi?id=fields.html#resolution
"Abandoned" is AFAICS when the OP doesn't respond any more and nobody else can
test whether an issue is still present.
The gateway is broken or non-existant. Nobody is going to fix it, rather than
declare it officially dead, hence "wontfix".
Enough noise, please concentrate on important discussions now, thank you.

The Forum section of http://www.winehq.org/help currently includes this

comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine."
This is simply not true; the Google Groups page has nothing to do with our
forum, and never has. While the group may at one time have been a legitimate
site for Wine questions, at present it is almost entirely spam, much of it for
porn. We really should not be directing users to it from our support page.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get build-dep wine1.3

I do see one issue with this patch: as the mouse moves outside the game window
rather odd things can happen to mouse clicks. I haven't tested very thoroughly
yet, but it looks as if both the game with focus *and* the window under the
cursor receive clicks.
This may be a bit window manager dependent. I'll try and do some more careful
testing, but there may be a problem here...

Hi,
I have submitted a change to the WineFAQ but it seems like you don't like it -
as it keeps getting reverted... I'll try to explain the change here (as a last
attempt)
In section 7.5. "I want to associate a native program with a file type in Wine"
If the argument to the program contains spaces it will not work - so I have
added sed to change " " (spaces) to "\ " like:
#!/bin/sh
$1 "`wine winepath -u "$2"`" | sed 's/ /\\ /'
I.e. you try to open a .doc file named "my document.doc" then without sed,
openoffice will not be able to open the file. With sed added it will.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one with this problem.
Another minor thing: I believe most people will find it easier to understand if
you use ~ as the reference to home instead of telling them to: "make sure that
$HOME/bin directory is in your $PATH."
But that's just my two cents
Sincerely,
Kim Jensen

File Systems: ext2, ext3.
Reprodused: always.
Function: WriteFile(any params). Haven't tested ReadFile yet.
WriteFile causes FS buffer grows equal to amount of data written (after writing
threshold amount of data, kernel kills process with "out of memory" message).
Memory freed only after buffer become invalid (for example, echo > <filename>.
FS keeps memory even after wine process and wine server finished execution).
Simple program:
BYTE pBuffer[1024];
DWORD dwWritten = 0;
memset(pBuffer, 0xCE, sizeof(pBuffer));
HANDLE hFile = CreateFile(_T("C:\\test.img"),
GENERIC_ALL,
0,
NULL,
OPEN_EXISTING,
FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL,
NULL);
for (int i = 0; i < 256 * 1024; ++i)
{
WriteFile(hFile, pBuffer, sizeof(pBuffer), &dwWritten, NULL);
}
CloseHandle(hFile);
Output: 256Mb memory leak.
Temporary I have added O_DIRECT option support to wine server and switched to
ext2 FS(works fine for me).

Summary: StarCraft2 screen garbled as "bad glass" on ATI cards,
when not using orm=backbuffer
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.0
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: NightNord(a)gmail.com
With any OffscreenRenderingMode other than backbuffer, game screen (both in
menu and missions) is garbled as shown on photo. There is few moments about
this garbling:
1) It happens only if SC2 rendering size is the same as you monitor resolution.
I.e. if you are playing fullscreen OR using virtual desktop with same size,
dispite of virtual desktop's window state.
2) It could be reverted by switching resolution or windowing mode in-game. But
it will return when;
a) You are entering settings, from menu or from in-game, doesn't matter.
b) On loading screen, at ~90% of load.
Common surrounding of reappearing of the bug is that at this moment screen
flickers once.
When you are using orm=backbuffer, but also appears at noted actions for a few
seconds, but then screen reverting back to normal.
Photo attached are done with settings:
orm=fbo
videomemorysize=512 (unrelated)
UseGLSL=disabled (unrelated, but fixes another bug)
This is not only wine related, as same bug could be encountered in native games
and screen isn't cleared on SC2 exit until you will (blindly) execute something
like xrandr -s 1,
I'm making photo of this bug, as I've failed to make screenshot - i'm getting
black image every time with any tool. Also note, that only right part of screen
is heavily garbled, while left part is mostly clear, and this is as it always
is.

Where does this stand? Dylan's patch doesn't apply quite cleanly anymore,
and if you apply the failed hunk by hand, it crashes in "make test".

multi core systems, but the other bug isn't random. (Adding maxcpus=1 to

I just updated from wine-1.3.11 to 1.3.12 and now foobar2000 1.x (currently
using 1.1.2 but this also happens with the 1.x series) crashes when opening
certain dialog boxes.
One example:
1) Select a large amount of files (110 in my case)
2) Open the properties dialogue for these files
3) Double-click on an empty area in the metadata tab
4) Dialog box to add a new field to the metadata should open
5) Application crashes
I have run this through winedbg and attached the output. Crash seems to
originate from user32.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_word#Word_1981_to_1989,
the full version of Microsoft Word 5.5 for DOS is available
for free download from Microsoft's servers. The filename is Wd55_ben.exe
and the sha1sum is da7c939d6bd7b06d91d3abe6094bd6e424009089.
The app is delivered as a self-extracting zipfile.
Letting it unpack itself curiously unpacks everything
in the same directory, leading to multiple clashes.
Better to unpack it with unzip, then it puts things in
multiple directories with no clashes.
Running the unpacked SETUP.EXE fails with
SYS2090: The system is unable to load the program.
According to http://pages.videotron.com/mikereid/readme.txt,
this error means insufficient free memory.

and then it outputs the SYS2090 message. Evidently it tries to
resize a block of memory to the maximum possible size in the
DOS memory space (1MB, or 65535 paragraphs); DOS replies
"sorry, you can only resize that to 36661 paragraphs"; the
app says "OK, mate, give me 36661 paragraphs"; and DOS
says "Ha, ha, fooled you, you can't have that after all."
I'd abort if it were me, too.
Looking at winedos/int21.c:DOSVM_Int21Handler and
winedos/dosmem.c:DOSMEM_ResizeBlock, it looks like the
resize functionality isn't yet implemented.

Although installation and execution of The Sims 3 works well, the game crashes
to desktop when attempting to enter Create-A-Sim (CAS). Since CAS is an
extremely important aspect of Sims 3, and creating new sims is mandatory for
new installations, I am rating the severity of this bug as Major.
Terminal output gives the following at the time of crash to desktop:
wine: Call from 0x7b836462 to unimplemented function
d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXFillVolumeTexture, aborting

Error messages from wine
I downloaded and installed Universal Combat
from the given url.
After I first launched the game it claimed
that d3dx9_25.dll could not be found.
So I downloaded it from this url:
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_25
I moved it to:
~/.wine/drive_c/Programme/3000AD/Universal Combat/
I launch the game with this command:
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Programme/3000AD/Universal\ Combat
env WINEDEBUG=fixme-all WINEPREFIX="~/.wine" wine
"C:\Programme\3000AD\Universal Combat\uc.exe"
The game has to be launched from the install directory
because otherwise it claims the the config files
can not be found.
After executing the command sometimes a black game window
appears without changing and sometimes it does not.
But the error messages from wine are always the same
and can be found in the attachment.
Can someone confirm this bug or present a fix?

EVE's log server output showing the failure
EVE Online crashes, somewhere between 30 seconds and 30 minutes of gameplay.
This crash happens when a character portrait image request fails.
It can be reproduced instantly on login by overriding the image server dns so
it always fails:
echo "127.0.0.1 images.cdn1.eveonline.com" >> /etc/hosts
I tried this on my Windows Vista laptop, and when I did the same hosts file
thing, the game played normally with all character portraits being replaced by
the default.

As long it is not always reproducible, it is not this bug. I'm experiencing the
bug after each wine update (including 1.3.13), and the workaround patch is
fixing the problem each time. So I'm pretty sure you are experiencing another
one.
Try to look for another bug or submit a new one...

None of the patches or hacks here work anymore. Disabling gameoverlayrenderer
and disabling Steam Community In-Game has no effect. Setting Windows version to
win98 or winnt no longer have any effect.
Using the latest git on Debian Squeeze.

because posChanging->cy is taller than newComboHeight.
Then, The combobox can be hidden by the label.

This should make us crash when trying to use the "currently active" context

Summary: directx9 clobbers dotnet20 (mscoree)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.13
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: mscoree
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: scdeimos+bugs.winehq.org(a)gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=33318)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=33318)
Steps to reproduce the problem.
SETUP:
Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat
wine-1.3.13
winetricks 20110123
PROBLEM:
After using "winetricks directx9" users may see the following error message
whenever they start a wine application:
The program mscorsvw.exe has encountered a serious problem
and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
The started application is (usually) unaffected.
CAUSE:
The last couple of lines of winetricks' load_directx9() function are:
# reenable mscoree, or other installs may fail, see issue 25
w_override_dlls builtin,native mscoree
Doing this, however, clobbers mscoree as used by .NET Framework 2.0. Whenever
you try to start Wine (even for something like wine regedit) the ".NET Runtime
Optimization Service v2.0.50727_X86" service fails to start with the following
error message:
The program mscorsvw.exe has encountered a serious problem
and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
WORKAROUND:
Start winecfg, go to the Libraries tab and change the override from "*mscoree
(builtin, native)" to "*mscoree (native)". The error message goes away.
REPRODUCING:
See attachment.

AFAIK, the gateway has not been functional in the time I have been here (since
2008). IMO, it should remain closed and the links removed from the website. The
Usenet group is unmonitored and overrun by spam. See bug 26144.

There are several different virtual machine offerings out there,

- Remove Bochs, not longer developed
- Add virtual box (based on QEMU)

Summary: Wine doesn't merge HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes
into HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.11
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: damjan.jov(a)gmail.com
According to the MSDN
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms724498(VS.85).aspx), in the registry
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT is a merged view of 2 registry locations:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes.
My tests show that, under Wine, only HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes gets
merged into HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
Some applications install registry keys only under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes. These keys won't appear in the merged view,
and will be missed by tools that look at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
Simple test to reproduce:
Start regedit
Make a new key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes
Look at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT - it isn't there

The dpkg log for install and removal
I have an Ubuntu 10.04 with latest fixes.
I have used wine without problems for year but a couple weeks ago' it started
not working. Even winecfg has problems like this:

After many tentatives I decided to wipe wine and reinstall from scratch.
I tried 1.3, 1.2, 1.0 but this is what happens when I try to install Wine:
Selezionato il pacchetto winetricks.

There is something wrong in the installation that I cannot trace back.
BTW, winecfg has the same problem as above and also no other program works.

BBC BASIC for Windows:
http://www.bb4w.com/
Plus, importantly, applications compiled using that language. That's part of
the problem: there is an ever-growing number of applications that use
GetBoundsRect, because they're created in BBC BASIC!
It's perhaps also worth mentioning that GDI+ supports GetBoundsRect too; GDI+
drawing functions update the bounding rectangle just the same as GDI drawing
functions do.

After doing ./configure --without-pthread and make, I get compile errors as
below.
I need without-pthread because I'm compiling for old hardware that's running a
2.4 Linux kernel and cannot be upgraded to 2.6.
Wine 1.2 and Wine 1.3.13 won't compile, but Wine 1.0 compiles OK (although I
have not yet been able to test the resulting binary on the target kernel).

My HOME version is 2.8.0.2146. 53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b is
the 'Disk Device' interface class. The key is used indirectly by HOME via

Please disregard my last comment. I had installed riched20 through winetricks
and had not set back the global defaults.
However, the main font for e-Sword DOES change with Options -> Main Font. This
changes the font for the ENTIRE program. And the EM_FORMATRANGE fixme messages
still appear. Will have to change the message for this as it says "stub" and
it should say "Not Implemented."

Also, text is properly formatted in the Main text window for e-Sword and the
print preview function appears to work properly.
Wine was build using the osxwinebuilder application created by R. Woodshall and
used Wine tar.bz2 downloaded from a Wine mirror.

Errors no longer occur with Wine 1.3.13 although there is no proper

Yes, I found an alternative workaround that involves copying registry
entries:
0. Attach the device to a Windows machine.
1. Navigate to this key:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}
and find the subkey that has TomTom somewhere in the name. Export it.
2. Navigate to this key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR
and find the subkey that has TomTom somewhere in the name. Export it.
3. Export this key: HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
and edit the reg file to contain only the value that corresponds
to your TomTom device. In my case this is \\DosDevices\\D:
4. Import the registry keys in Wine.
It's looking up a device identifier through setupapi and tries to match
it to the value found under the MountedDevices key for a particular
(removable) drive.
On Wine the relevant setupapi functions are implemented but the registry
keys they query are not populated yet when a new device is attached. And
the values under the MountedDevices key are currently filled with
the targets of the drive symlinks under ~/.wine/dosdevices instead
of device identifiers.

Well, Renault cars don't come with long USB cords. It's kind of logical that

Interesting. It does make the difference here and my device is a TomTom
ONE. If I create a dummy filesystem TomTom HOME detects the device and
the app is very much usable; I was able to update the device for example.
If I remove the file detection fails again. Perhaps there's a second file
that's also sufficient for detection of the device.

It's used on the TomTom devices in Renault cars. Now that may be a bit of
hardware that's harder to get your hands on ;) Joking aside, this call should

So if I create a small ext2 filesytem and copy it there the app finally
detects the device:
$ dd if=/dev/zero of=ext2.img count=1024 bs=4096
$ mkfs.ext2 ext2.img
$ cp ext2.img /media/INTERNAL/loopdir/ext3_loopback
The app bundles e2fsck.exe and it looks like it's only interested in
getting a clean filesystem check. I don't understand why this file isn't
present on my device though.

Created an attachment (id=33254)

kernel32: Implement GetVolumePathNamesForVolumeName.
I created a drive D: with winecfg and pointed it to /media/INTERNAL
(the place where the TomTom device is mounted on my machine). Then I set
its type to 'Floppy disk'. This means Wine will report the drive as a
removable drive, which is what TomTom HOME is looking for.
With this configuration and the attached patch the app proceeds to read
from the device:
Call KERNEL32.CreateFileW(00e9b458
L"D:\\loopdir\\ext3_loopback",80000000,00000003,0033dee4,00000003,00000080,00000000)
The call fails because that file is not present.

No. We _might_ get support for linux with the web interface with the new Tomtom
GO 100x series.
But all older models are still supported and will only be supported by Tomtom
Home.
And it's quite clear by now there'll never be any release of Tomtom Home for
Linux since:
- it's for older models
- they've ignored all petitions for years
So we still need to get the final bits of support for Tomtom Home in wine.
Is there any wine developer who would like to get a tomtom GPS?

Wine 1.1 doesn't allow Eve to open a Direct3D window, it always comes up

windowed works but places the window down and to the right of the initial
specified position.
Re-installing Wine 1.0 fixed the issue.

A few responses:
Adding a \\.\Volume{...} isn't enough. That list includes all drives, including
normal USB sticks etcetera. HOME cross-checks it against TomTom USB devices to
figure out the DOS path to the right USB device.
TomTom has been asked in the past to make a Linux version of HOME2. This hasn't
happened yet. One has to wonder if this is going to change, consideing that the
newest Go series (1000/1005) doesn't use HOME anymore. Instead new content is
uploaded to the device from the webbrowser. The site for this is under active
development, but doesn't use hacks like ActiveX. So it's quite possible Linux
support will become a lot easier.
As for devices, I've got no doubt that a serious developer could get a device
from TomTom for free.

Hi,
Without the high resolution patch, it will not even start up.
With the high resolution patch, it does start up.
In the FO2 'ddraw.ini' file added by the high resolution patch, Mode=4,
fullscreen dx9, and mode=5, windowed dx9.
Both result in a white screen on my system (codeweavers 9.2, OS X), just like
the native OS X port (for PPC).
Please try changing the Mode in ddraw.ini in FO2 to use dx9 mode and see what
happens for you.
Otherwise in default mode I get the unplayably slow graphical lag. (push an
arrow key and watch it sluggishly re-draw the screen as it scrolls)

Is it possible that the software fallback for opengl rendering is causing the

I tried today with the GOG version of the game, the unofficial patch and the

very slow.

It's been labelled as fixed for a couple of reasons:
* trigger-happy maintainers that mark bugs as fixed without asking if the
problem has been resolved (e.g. comment #45)
* testing to see if this bug still exists is tricky. I have a suspicion that my
comment #48 was incorrect, because I have also observed slowdowns (but to a
lesser degree) since then
Stefan's patch has not been implemented because the wine architecture has
changed a fair amount since then. I have some vague feeling that fixing bug 421
will be a good canary for when the drawing architecture has stabilised.

This bug does not seem to be fixed. I still get big slowdowns with cursor
flickering on recent versions of Wine (for instance 1.3.13). The game runs much
better in Wine 0.9.51 with Dösinger's patch.
(Note that running the game in 16bpp helps, but not at all as much as
Dösinger's patch.)
Has Dösinger's patch not been implemented? Why has this bug been label as
fixed?

The bug is going to be fixed once the fixed-function vertex pipeline
replacement is in place and working.

This patch is bugged; while vertex shaders in general seem to be fixed,
there're some weird graphical glitches like hands and fingers being detached or
a morphed body (like a moving snake) not having one body, but many detached and
straight body parts.
Also, when will this bug be fixed? It shouldn't be too had to update the wine
source finally...

Whenever I attempt to click on anything that requires Wine to start,
services.exe happens to show up in the System monitor and nothing happens after
a LONG time. Note that it has done this numerous times when upgrading to
another version of wine, sometimes it's successful, and sometimes it's not.
Unlike the "services.exe uses 100% of CPU" bug, it doesn't use anything, except
block what I'm about to run/install.

The game becomes unresponsive after I launched a singleplayer game. Both the
demo and the retail version are affected. The game doesn't hang in Wine-1.3.8.
How to reproduce the issue in the demo:
1) you will need 'winetricks d3dx9_36 dsoundbug9612' before launching the game.
2) In the main menu click on single player, then choose a nation on the map and
click on <PLAY>. The map will be loaded but the game becomes unresponsive
instantly after that.

Reverting the patch on top of wine-1.3.8-204-g24d2f69 was successful and that

Installing safesign_icbc_per.exe
safesign_icbc_per.exe is the driver installer for G&D USB-Shield. G&D
USB-Shield is the usbkey for ICBC online bank.
The download page is here: http://goo.gl/yqL5w
There are several drivers, the one I have tested is http://goo.gl/QmnFq .
While installing safesign_icbc_per.exe, the installer is crashing.
Here are the steps:
1. install mfc42 with winetricks (safesign_icbc_per.exe required mfc42)
$ winetricks -q mfc42
2. install safesign_icbc_per.exe
$ wine safesign_icbc_per.exe
There will be an Error Dialog says,
" The program regsvr32.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close
"
Attachment is the full log.
If I install crypt32.dll with winetricks to replace wine builtin crypt32 , then
there is no crash.

I've been trying to see if Max' DIB engine implementation would have some
performance improvements with FL Studio (version 9). However, when I try to
launch the program with the "WINEDIB=ON" enviroment variable, I get the

Using wine 1.3.10 with the latest set of patches (1.3.7), compiled just fine.
Also have tried with earlier versions, same thing. And although it says
"starting debugger", it never starts, the program just hangs after the "Program
error" window. Eventually, I have to use 'kill' to stop the process. So, does
anyone have any idea what's the thing with this?

Making moves is incredibly sluggish, everything is very slow.
>From the official website support:
"Why is the piece movement slow? Why is there a delay when I make a move on the
board?
BabasChess uses a double-buffering technique to draw the board without
flickering; unfortunately, on a few video cards this technique determines a
slow board redraw (delays when moving a piece or between the end of the piece
movement and the subsequent board update). This problem can be usually fixed as
follows: 1) open the Windows Display Properties (right click on your desktop
and select "Properties"), 2) select the "Settings" tab (where you can change
the screen resolution, color quality, ...), 3) press the "Advanced" button, 4)
select the "Troubleshoot" (or "Performance") tab and 5) decrease the hardware
acceleration by one step."
No way to do something similar in wine.

Wine has a severe bug that makes it not draw the board by default. Using a
native gdiplus dll library does fix this problem, but the buttons are still
messed up.

Summary: WINE msi does not uninstall files correctly and does
not update registry
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.7
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: msi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: support(a)securenetterm.com
When the wine unisntall is selected to remove a program, it starts the program
msi uninstaller, which runs and indicates the program was uninstalled.
However, the wine uninstaller still shows the program as being installed, the
registry entry for the program unistalled is still in:
/hkey/local_machine/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/uninstall
which prevents the program from being installed again and the programs install
directory and its contents have not been removed as they should have been.
Its as if all the WINE msi unistall functions are placeholders.
I would recommend a real live Windows application which has an Installshield
installed be obtained to see what actions should happen on install, uninstall
and install again. Compare what happens on a real Windows systems and what
happens on WINE.

ReportedBy: turbolad995(a)hotmail.co.uk
Just a minor glitch...
If you are running 1by1 Player via Wine (see download link) and go into the
settings e.g. press <F6>, click the "List" tab and then move the slider
labelled "Font and size" towards the right too much in order to make the font
larger, the track listing becomes unreadable. What's supposed to happen is the
font becomes larger to make it easier to read (this does not happen if you run
1by1 player in Windows).
Try it and see.

Error log
I am attempting to run the game dragon age: origins in fedora 12 x86_64 with
latest updates from the repository. I used winetricks to install various things
i saw on the appdb, including vcrun2005, and then used the .exe with the no_cd
crack. When trying to start up, it has errors about msvcr80.dll(attached) and
then comes up with a error dialog box(also attached). I'm not sure whether i'm
doing something wrong still, or whether it is a bug, so i would appreciate
troubleshooting help.
P.S. I've also tried copying a msvcr80.dll download from the internet. Same
error. Different error if i remove msvcr80.dll.

I am trying to remove microsoft visual C++ 2005 and I get a crash, I'll post a
screenshot. There is also a backlog, that will be here as well. I am removing
this component in hope that a reinstall will fix my problems I'm having with
runes of magic.
