Wine output running mapsource, doing some zooming on the absent map, and
closing
Newer MapSource version 6.16.1 upgrades ok (after changing OS from WinXP to
Win7 since the installer fails saying it needs WinXP SP3 at least).
After installing and running, window and menus draws fine, but the main map
window shows no map, just gray tiles.
The map legends still show up.
Opening a track or drawing routes do display the lines, but not the map.
Hovering the mouse over shows street names, etc., but we can't see the map.
Zooming in and out constantly makes the application crash.

> In git, starts out with a blank bitmap. If window is activated, the bitmap
shows up fine.
I can confirm this behavior on 1.3.6. The bug reported (redrawing wrong
regions) seems to be fixed. I tried all kinds of ways exposing a hidden region
and I simply could not get Wine to redraw the wrong region.
I did, however, encounter several other bugs. The first one being that the
bitmap is not rendered at all before the window is activated, the second one
being that horizontal lines show up in the bitmap if I have another window
covering the dialog and then minimizing that window.
Conclusion: bug seems to be fixed but there are (at least) two other bugs that
should be reported separately.

MSXML SP2 installer +msi trace (lzma compressed)
With wine-1.3.6-240-g791b22a, after running the MSXML4 SP2 redist installer
with default installation settings, the side-by-side assembly files are placed
in "C:\SXS" rather than the expected "C:\windows\system32\winsxs" directory.
This seems to hurt the Flight Simulator X demo, which complains about broken
MSXML4 SP2 installation on startup. The SP3 version of the redist doesn't seem
to have this problem. A +msi trace is attached on the presumption that the
issue is msi-related.

I try to install Toca Race Driver 2, but the 'Now(Later)Technology' Installer
refused to work when I click on it. I have to 'autorun' the icon or click
'setup.exe' when I explore & they both fail to confirm installation at the end
of the event when I click on 'play'! Setuphardware runs, but goes no further.
Both it & Race Driver games make 2 entries in 'Wine uninstaller' list, which
doesn't happen on 'real windows'!!
No 'bug reported'?!

In the current git (wine-1.3.6-335-gd5fa2ce) the app doesn't crash anymore: it
shows an error dialogue stating:
'Unable to load NeoGeo System Bios rom neo-geo.rom'
Since I don't have the required system bios and don't know if that's legal to
download one I couldn't proceed further but something tells me the application
is working now ;)
Please re-test the application with a recent Wine.

Application programs that produce a lot of screen output (such as telnet, ssh,

error messages are generated for every line of text written.

Battleswarm crashes with wine 1.3.6 during loading up, right before showing the
intro video. Seems to be gstreamer related. It did not occur with 1.3.5.
I've attached the terminal output, which catches the exact moment that it
throws an error and crashes.
Is there a way to disable gstreamer support (so it works like 1.3.5)?

ReportedBy: trygve.vea(a)gmail.com
Using Ubuntu 10.10 x86_64, with wine 1.3.6 installed from the ppa.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Create a fresh wineprefix.
2) Install LEGO Digital Designer 4.0. (Can be fetched from
http://ldd.lego.com/download/default.aspx)
3) Attempt to launch it.
The attached text file contain the error messages appearing, and wine fails to
start the application.
Asking around on IRC, if there was a way to disable gstreamer within wine gave
me an effective workaround. Running the following command:
# regsvr32 /u winegstreamer
seems to make the application able to launch.
I also notice that bug 24933 have the same error message mentioned (which seems
to be the only hit on google while searching for this error).

Screenshot from Chris on wine 1.0.0
On some systems, the starting screen (and, for what it's worth, in-game
screens) doesn't have any textures / colours on the models. A screenshot
(provided by Chris in the KOTOR discussion pages on appdb) is attached that
demonstrates this.
This issue is present on systems with the following specifications:
* Pentium III with an Nvidia Riva TNT2 M64 card
* ~1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, and an Intel 945G (GMA)
This issue is *not* present on systems with the following specifications:
* HP with integrated graphics
* ~1.6GHz Pentium 4, 256MB RAM, Nvidia FX5600
This was observed by me previously, but I put it down to my use of a computer
that wasn't good enough to be able to run 3D games under wine. Recent comments
in the discussion for this program have indicated that this is also an issue on
more recent systems that should be able to run the program properly.
As seen in the discussion for SW:KOTOR:

With Wine 1.3.6@Ubuntu 10.10 and Winambulancia 6.8, I get the same results.
Either a regression, since the program was able to run some time before, or
change in the program. I'll try with older version of both Wine and
Winambulancia.

Just install WINE from the repository. Copy CCG both cds to one directory. You
can overwrite files like autorun.inf. Change the file attributes of setup.exe
to executable an start it. Now you can install CCG.

Output from powerpoint run with wine on the command line
When using Office 2007 word and powerpoint (I haven't tested others), I get a
crash and "*** buffer overflow detected ***" message when I perform an
operation that would normally open a file dialog, such as "open" or "save as".
I'm using the fedora 14 packaged wine, wine-1.3.5-1.fc14.i686. I deleted my
.wine directory and reinstalled office from scratch and get the same error.
This same configuration worked in an earlier version of wine from fedora 13
(not sure which version).
I am using the riched20 override. A backtrace is attached.

I found the solution. It was very simple. The problem is not wine, its the
configuration of CCG. Here is the solution:
- Install CCG with WINE.
- Copy the cracked files genererals.exe and game.dat to your
"~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/EA Games/Command and Conquer Generals"
directory.
- Install the latest 2D-3D driver for your graphic adapter.
- Create a directory called "~/Command and Conquer Generals Data" and create
the file options.ini as in comment 31.
- Open the file options.ini and change the resolution "resolution = " to this
of your monitor (resolution = 1280 1024).
Thats it...

There are two patches, which apparently fix this bug
(http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=9528 and
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.wine.devel/54403 - very much
related from a quick look).
Please consider applying/adopting this patch finally.

I have tried this with wine1.3 and it still stalls.
Is there something that can be more helpful to debug? A process that I can
try?
The web-based client is ultra-crappy.

During my work on cnc-ddraw (https://github.com/hifi/cnc-ddraw) I discovered
that this issue was completely avoided my my minimal ddraw implementation.
It seems that this is somehow related to ddraw async API and thread
synchronization. Sometimes when I changed the synchronizing style I got a
lockup almost instantly (like in Wine ddraw).
Currently I think my code avoids this problem. Both games can run without using
schedtool.
Its worth noting this is also an issue on real Windows with multiple cores. The
game occasionally freezes without setting one core affinity and/or setting
win95/win98 compatibility mode (which probably also sets one core affinity).
So, this is most probably related to Wine's current ddraw implementation and
its async API not being thread safe.
cnc-ddraw is still a work-in-progress.

During my work on cnc-ddraw (https://github.com/hifi/cnc-ddraw) one of my goals
was to fix this issue. It is true the game does a whole lot of front buffer
locking when its drawing the menu. It also does that during the game but a lot
less which makes the game somewhat playable on a recently powerful PC.
What I did to address this was to create a separate drawing loop that flips the
software surface to a OpenGL texture (or lately a real ddraw surface).
This way the async API is fully asynchronous for the game, locks and unlocks
are instant and it works very well.
One problem was that the game worked too well, especially scrolling. Somehow in
Red Alert the scrolling speed depends on how fast the game can Blt the whole
scene on the screen. This issue was addressed by synchronizing Blt with a
emulated vblank wait triggered by the drawing loop after each frame which can
be limited to slow it down even further without affecting the visual quality.
C&C has a bit newer drawing engine (the Windows port was done after RA) and it
actually calls WaitForVblank which does a similar wait between frames drawn.
Overall the results are enjoyable. The game runs fast with minimal flickering
(if at all), scrolling works slow enough and some of the other bugs that affect
this series are also avoided.
So, what Wine needs is probably something similar to support the async API
fully.
cnc-ddraw is still a work in progress.

I have managed to solve this whilst looking at other threads. Turns out that
the problem is to do with recognising the resolution of the macbook display.
Emulating a virtual desktop solves the problem and the game runs fine, although
there are a lot of missing folders which need to be manually created for the
game to run.

Alright, so here's the deal. It's checking for the dt:type of the node, which
is supposed to be set by the XDR schema. Problem is, our msxml doesn't
understand XDR schemas; it stores them in the cache, but doesn't actually use
them. There are a couple of potential solutions... will have to think about it
for a bit.

Sorry to reopen this issue but seems most appropriate for the problems I'm
experiencing.
I am using wine version 1.2-rc5, installed on a MacBook running OSX 10.6.4. My
graphics card is Nvidia GeForce 9400M.
DoW installs fine, and after adding GraphicsOptions/Data the GraphicConfig
utility runs. The first point is that the card it recognises is Nvidia GeForce
9400 GT. Having selected either this or default and pressing next gives dialog:
"No suitable display modes were found. Make sure that you have a suitable video
card and recent drivers". Once I have pressed okay I am unable to select a
resolution or run a graphics test, and can proceed no further with the utility.
I have attached a log for WINEDEBUG=trace+d3d9,d3d_caps,warn_d3d,d3d_caps, and
the ouput from glxinfo.
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, the last 5k lines are all some busy waiting for some shared
resource farther up xD May take me a lil while to wade through the full one.

Hello,
For uninstalling a program running on wine, we have to use the wine program
with "uninstaller" name. I propose to use a naming which better fits the wine
programs naming policy.
I searched this uninstaller for a while because I typed "wine" first in my a
console and I wanted my shell to propose all available programs like "winecfg",
"winecpp", etc.
If the uninstaller would have a name like "wine-uninstaller", then it would be
easier to find the uninstaller, without any documentation.
