Install reports success, but not sure how to test this. I assume if it works
properly that I should see a printer port in wine applications, e.g., notepad,
but I don't, so I assume it's still present.

Yep, that's the correct way to proceed. I didn't mean to sound cranky earlier,
I was just very confused xD
I tested Civ4 on current git with my current patch stack briefly with Steam and
it worked fine =) I didn't need the dx9 overrides; that might just be the card
I'm using, and I didn't play very long. I didn't see any msxml errors though,
which was the point of the patches =) This is my pending stack, some of them
probably aren't needed for it to run but I don't feel like picking the
non-essential ones out xD If this doesn't fix the msxml issues for someone
please let me know.

I'm sorry, I did not make myself clear the first time. Let me try to explain
further.
I installed Civ4 a long time ago still using wine 1.1.xx.
I used overrides in this wineprefix (located in ~/.wine) to play the game.
When testing for the bug report I always used a clean prefix (located in
~/wine-tmp) which I deleted after every test.
Today:
Running Civ4 with wine from git with your patches in the clean prefix, caused
the mentioned shaders error.
Running Civ4 with wine 1.3.7 in the clean prefix, caused the game to crash with
the hundreds of dilogue boxes that I had before the patching.
Running Civ4 with wine 1.3.7 in the install prefix (with the overrides) worked
fine.
Then I ran Civ4 with wine form git with your patches in the install prefix
(disabling the overrides) and it ran. Every time I do this, the game runs fine,
but it caused:
Running Civ4 with wine 1.3.7 in the install prefix, with the overrides set to
native, and the game no longer runs.
To make sure everything is working:
I will install the game from the DVD, and try to run it without setting any
overrides, using wine from git with your patches. However, it will probably
require 2 dx9 native dll's, but that is another story.
I _think_ this is the correct way to do things, but please, if there is
something incorrect in this procedure, let me know! I want to help wine move
forward, not hamper it with my newbishness.

For bug testing you should always be using:
1. latest wine git (with any requested patches)
2. a clean prefix (aside from installing the app you're testing)
3. no overrides (unless specifically requested)
> After trying to use native msxlm3 again, the game just crashed immediately. So

... I'm confused. I was under the impression that the game has worked with
native (Windows') msxml3 for some time now. The point of my patches is to fix
the built-in (Wine's) msxml.

Yes, please do that. No msxml overrides, if you need others list them. I
think we have a copy of Civ4, gonna try to test it myself as well.

Yes, if you can find the disc, it would be nice to know the minimal set
of native libraries (if any) needed to run with wine from git.

I have managed to load the game!
I did not use a clean wine prefix. I have instead used my "normal" wine prefix,
resetting all the libs to native in winecfg.
I can now run the game using wine from git with your patches. Using wine 1.3.7
and using only builtin libs crashes the game with the error messages from some
time ago (the hundreds of error dialogue boxes).
After trying to use native msxlm3 again, the game just crashed immediately. So
now it only starts with the git version. I guess that's not a wine problem
anymore.
If you think it's useful, I can find the game DVD, install it again in a clean
prefix and see how well it turns out. But it might take a while since I'm not
100% sure where the DVD could be.

I also have:

I'll check if there is also any relevant dll inside the game dir.

Hi,
I am definitely experiencing these in game slow downs causing FO2 to be
unplayable. I have tried many suggestions from the comment history in attempts
to get it to work, but no success.
I have a Mac Book Pro OS X 10.6.5, xquarter 2.5.3, Crossover games 9.2.0, 2.16
GHz C2D, 4 GB Ram, and an ATI X1600 128 MB Vram. I applied the killap
unofficial patch which allows the game to get past the "Please Wait..." screen.
I've found no answers still :(.

That happens several times, looks like my XDR => XSD converter needs some work.
Use this patch with the other one so I can see the XML source. You don't need

Some more data:
* I ran the DirectX Caps Viewer
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee417852%28VS.85%29.aspx) on Windows
and in 'Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family\D3D Device Types' I got the
following information:
HAL\Caps: MaxPointSize = 256
Reference\Caps: MaxPointSize = 64
* I also ran the OpenGL Extensions Viewer
(http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/download.html) on Windows which showed:
Point size range: 0.5 to 1.0
Smoothed point size range: 1 to 256
So the DirectX capability matches the OpenGL one, but the Windows max point
size is a bit different from what it is on Linux.

> Note that the error also happens with the Intel driver which means this
> may be a general issue where OpenGL's and Direct3D's idea of where a
> pixel starts and stops differs.
One more note about the issue on Intel: I tested this during WineConf on my
EeePC 1000H which has a GMA 950 integrated graphics card. 3DMark06 works fine
on windows XP getting a fantastic score of 57 ;-). In Wine/Linux I get the
missing PS 2.0 error. By adding a trace I noticed that MaxPointSize was 255.0!
So that may be part of the issue. 'glxinfo -l' gives me:
GL_ALIASED_POINT_SIZE_RANGE = 1, 255
GL_SMOOTH_POINT_SIZE_RANGE = 1, 3
If told how to do so, I can check what value I get on Windows XP (3DMark itself
does not provide this information).
I then applied the hack that hardcodes MaxPointSize to 64.0. However 3DMark06
still complained about the lack of pixel shader 2.0 support. So there's
probably another issue.
The uptake is that we now have a second group we can ask to figure out what's
up with the point sizes.

I have uploaded the entire log into here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/929646/Civ4BTS%2Btid%2C%2Bmsxml%2C%2Bvariant.log.ta…
It's a 590 Mb long file, compressed with lzma, into 4,3 Mb.
I can't get my 9Gb log again. Also, this time it reached the error a lots
sooner then when I generated the 9Gb log.
Yes, I know this is no the correct way to do things as this log should be
uploaded into somewhere truly public like the bugzilla.
I hope you can find whatever the error refers to in this file.

Wow, this thing loads a lot of XML files xD I'm still not seeing the one with
the shader info tho. Lets try 10M lines xD You can break it up if needed by
piping head & tail together, eg:
$ cat full.log | tail -n 10000000 | head -n 1000000
would give you the first 1M lines of the last 10M lines. Or if you prefer you
can just email the whole chunk (compressed) to me directly. Generally it's
good to do as much thru bugzilla as possible, but with logs this big we're
approaching the limit of its usefulness.

The game still runs fine using the latest git and reverting to native MSXML.
The python error is also displayed even if running with native MSXML, so it's
not related.
Givem this, you are correct and there must still be something with wine's
native MSXML implementation, that is somehow failing (silently?).
Is there any further information I could send you that would be helpful?

If it works with the msxml3 override, and not with built-in msxml3, then
there's a problem in our msxml. That python error is probably because of
python 3, but if it works fine with native msxml3 then there is still a msxml
bug somewhere. If there is some doubt please retest with native msxml3 and
make sure that still works.

Here it is, the last 1M lines. However, I did make a:
cat logfile.log |grep -i shade
And got no results, there doesn't seem to be any reference to shaders in the
logfile. However, in the second to last logfile line there is a python error,
about a file not found. I noticed that my username in that path is not spelled
correctly. The letter "f" is replaced with "x0c". Is this normal or could it be
the reason for the error?
Or is it something else that is causing python to fail? It seems to be unable
to import the module "site". Could it be because I am running python3? I
thought Civ IV shipped it's own python.

The dialogue box says it's an error loading shader libraries, but I don't see
anything about that in the log. Is 1 million lines too big to upload?

I have installed Polar ProTrainer 5 software version 5.20.130 and attached a
USB IrDA dongle from Polar to use with my Polar RS800 heart rate monitor. After
installing the dongle and verifying that it can see my heart rate monitor using
irdadump, I tried to connect the software and the heart rate monitor. I
configured the softaware to use IrDA connection from
Options->Preferences->Hardware. (Other options are USB and COM1-COM9) Then I
try to transfer data from the heart rate monitor using Tools->Transfer Data. A
popup window appears saying "Reading Settings..." and disappears after a while.
No data is transferred and no error message is given by the software. The next
time I try to connect to the heart rate monitor from the software, I get an
error message saying "Communication port couldn't be opened." The next time I
try the transfer, I get the right dialog but no data transfer and after that
again the error message.
When I used irdadump to test the USB dongle, the red led inside flashed when it
was transmitting data. When I try to connect from the software, I do not see
this light.

you have [-10,10] in base 10

Hello,
I try to make an application to work in wine.
It's "ploader", an utility coming with the "Piwigo" photo gallery.
It seems to work, but have to connect to the web to upload photos and this
don't works.
This windows program is available here:
http://fr.piwigo.org/ext/extension_view.php?eid=270
when launched from wine it first shows locales loading:
wine pLoader.exe
fixme:msvcrt:MSVCRT__wsetlocale 0 L"Chinese_People's Republic of China.936"
fixme:msvcrt:MSVCRT__wsetlocale 0 L"English_United States.1252"
(....)
then:
fixme:msvcrt:MSVCRT__wsetlocale 0 L"English_United States.1252"
fixme:msvcrt:msvcrt_fdtoh wtf
(several times)
fixme:msvcrt:MSVCRT__sopen : pmode 0x01b6 ignored
fixme:msvcrt:msvcrt_fdtoh wtf
it asks for the gallery URL then is issues an error message: can't connect to
xxxx:80 (unknown error). I can connect from windows or some variant of Linux
(there is a linux debian only version, not working on my openSUSE).
Adding :80 after the URL gives the same result (http://dodin.org:80/piwigo)
the programm is a perl application.
thanks

Awesome, looks like I was right. The program is reading the variant set by
domelem_get_dataType() through V_BSTR() without checking its type first, and
getting garbage data as a pointer. This one should solve that issue. If it
doesn't resolve all of the msxml issues, please attach a +tid,+msxml,+variant
log.

Patch from comment #17 still works for me, and gives nice smoke.

Hello everyone... I don't know if you will see my post, but I was wondering if
this bug has been solved ?
I am using Wine 1.2.1, with Xubuntu 10.10, on an Acer 1360, and... What a
surprise, Fallout is extremely slow and cursor is terribly lagging ;D
Do you think I am one more victim of this #6033 bug, or such an old computer
won't be able to run Fallout through Wine ?

Far2 incorrectly downsized using mouse
** The previous two comments related to maximizing/restoring Far window using

And the last problem with the current implementation.
Using mouse you can upsize Far window successfully (it will resize itself to
fit a new space), but you cannot downsize it - Far client window will stay the
same and scrollbars will appear.

Far2 with horizontal scroll bar, instead of being resized to the full screen
The fix is incomplete.
You can *successfully* toggle fullscreen mode only once (that's indeed an
improvement), then Far returns back to its initial size and *then* it won't
resize itself ever again, until you restart it. Instead something strange will
happen - horizontal and vertical scroll bars appear taking turns.
I'm running Far2 with Wine b8d0c0dcc70dc06674c9b0f42230357c736359f9.

Summary: Floppy diskette label and serial number not reported
by WINE
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.6
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: kernel32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: cparke(a)parkerfamily.name
For floppy diskettes, GetVolumeInformation() returns blank for the diskette
label and 0000-0000 for the serial number. For key floppy diskettes needed to
allow an installer to run, this causes key validation to fail!
WINE should either read the volume label and serial number correctly from the
boot record and FAT file system on the diskette, or should allow us to hardcode
the values needed in WINECFG (currently this is allowed for hard disks but not
floppies!)
Still broken in 1.3.6 despite fix attempted in Bug 24871.

http://www.telltalegames.com/puzzleagent installs fine.
If you're lucky, it starts fine, too (see bug 25176).
The next problem is a z-order one; there's a puzzle screen
with a map of a field with some trees and a snowmobile,
and over it is a menu with five logs.
On Windows, it looks fine, but on Wine, the log menu is *behind*
the map so you can only see the top, and you can't see the
snowmobile at all.

The above patch "Hack to fix CSS (710 bytes, patch) 2007-06-23 22:43 CDT, Luke

The HUD modification alone isn't enough, I had to patch gdi32.dll
I suppose a lot of crashes reported here aren't linked to this bug, especially
card-related ones and all of crashes not fixed by the above patch...

executing World of Warcraft with WINEDEBUG=+wldap32
After a complete installation of the latest World of Warcraft patch 4.0.1, when
entering information to login it will kick back with an error message saying it
is unable to connect. When the wldap32.dll from a windows installation is
placed in the folder for WoW and the dll is set to native, builtin, the login
works properly. Attempted to run on a install from windows at first and had
this issue, so I downloaded and did a fresh installation. The strange thing
about the fresh installation was that it did work up until the point where the
World of Warcraft Launcher had successfully downloaded and installed everything
up to date and then it stopped letting me log in at that point. I also did a
fresh install and running the launcher to load wow that worked and I will post
the trace from it as a reply for comparison.

I am afraid that the laggy mouse pointer makes playing some games far too
taxing, to the point that the games are abandoned. Examples are Neocron.com
and Anarchy Online: Both playable on WINE, but left out to dry because of the
mouse latency.

On my Ubuntu machine, I get no sound, even with quartz and devenum. Terminal

This is from my gentoo machine, with builtin quartz. Native quartz with

Some subprocess of the installer still crashes at end on wine-1.3.6.
To repeat, do
wget
http://download.microsoft.com/download/platformsdk/wmi9x/1.5/W9X/EN-US/wmi9…
winetricks win98
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=wbemprox,wmiutils=n,b wine wmi9x.exe
(You can run unattended with /S, doesn't affect the crash.)
Log shows
wine: Call from 0x7b838b62 to unimplemented function advapi32.dll.WmiOpenBlock,
aborting
The installer still says it finishes ok.
It's not a showstopper, but it still seems like a bug.

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hpestilence(a)gmail.com
I was having a memory leak with eve-online and found the patch that caused the
memory leak was the added support of depth stencil formats with
commit f8c4832276fb740e527fed87aa27975f91546d26
wined3d: Use GL_DEPTH24_STENCIL8_EXT for depth stencil formats.
I disabled the stencil format in the eve-online options by choosing 24-bit
depth only and the memory stayed stable.
I wasn't sure if this was an ATI driver bug so I'm reporting it here first.
I also tested using a HDR demo from here
http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/
The demo starts with a 16-bit depth first which can be changed to a depth +
stencil format by going to File->Config Display.

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: winehq.org(a)eternaldusk.com
Playing Left4Dead and Left4Dead 2, I get consistently dropped from online games
with the message "Disconnected: Server unable to authenticate Steam ID". This
may happen anywhere from 10 seconds to 20 minutes into an online game.
At first, I thought this was a game bug, as some Windows users had reported the
same problem. Unfortunately, most of those users were having the problem due
to corrupt cache files, which I've ruled out. Copying the game files from my
Linux partition to my Windows partition and vice-versa, the game only fails
when run under Wine.
What I've tried:
- Deleting the ClientRegistry.blob,
- Deleting all of the Steam files and re-downloading.
- Validating/defragging the games' cache files
- Forcing steam to use TCP instead of UDP (-tcp option)
- Turning down all in-game settings to ridiculous levels (though they run fine
at 'high' levels)
- Renaming and re-copying my entire steam directory from my Windows NTFS
partition, where it works fine, to my Linux EXT3 partition.
- Creating a fresh Wine prefix.
I do not see anything in the console log that indicates an error when the
disconnection occurs. :(
Any suggestions for further troubleshooting are welcome.

Hello,
I applied all 4 patches on 1.3.5 and compiled the source with gcc-4.5.1: text
is still not visible, neither in Br1 nor in Br2.
The games never complained about the built-in d3dx9 libraries. Just to be sure
I installed them with 'winetricks d3dx9' but still no luck: text is missing.

Wine-1.3.7: text is still missing both in the menus and throughout the main
game. Unlike Bloodrayne 1 this game doesn't allow me to choose between the
OpenGL and Direct3D renderer. The OpenGL renderer displayed the text correctly
in Br1.
On a side note, the videos are playing fine now, thanks to the quartz/gstreamer
improvements in Wine.

Office XP installation is still not working as of wine 1.2.1 on ubuntu 10.10.
Everything in the installer works except no space used/available is calculated.
I deselected installing Access, outlook, and frontpage. When it starts to
copy files, the installer crashes (see attached, the error log starts on line
1). I have also attached the terminal output from running the setup using wine
(14 lines, starting on line 78).

When using Wine 1.3.6 to play Oblivion I get consistent crashes after a couple
minutes of playing. This works fine with Wine 1.3.5. The error is always the
following:
amapps\common\oblivion\Oblivion.exe: filesource.c:1181:
FileAsyncReader_WaitForNext: La declaración `rtStop == rtSampleStop' no se
cumple (that's an assertion error).
I've done a bisection, and it leads to the patchset by Aric Stewart. I can't
pinpoint it to a single change because the first four patches cause Oblivion to
freeze when it tries to play its intro video, I assume because the feature is
incomplete without the fifth patch. Git's bisect output:
There are only 'skip'ped commits left to test.

Since this is one of the more useful mkv applications out there, it might be

Newer MapSource version 6.16.1 upgrades ok (after changing OS from WinXP to
Win7 since the installer fails saying it needs WinXP SP3 at least).
After installing and running, window and menus draws fine, but the main map
window shows no map, just gray tiles.
The map legends still show up.
Opening a track or drawing routes do display the lines, but not the map.
Hovering the mouse over shows street names, etc., but we can't see the map.
Zooming in and out constantly makes the application crash.

I'll attach the fun "spybot search and destroy" window that alerted
me to the temporary directory thing on XP.

> In git, starts out with a blank bitmap. If window is activated, the bitmap
shows up fine.
I can confirm this behavior on 1.3.6. The bug reported (redrawing wrong
regions) seems to be fixed. I tried all kinds of ways exposing a hidden region
and I simply could not get Wine to redraw the wrong region.
I did, however, encounter several other bugs. The first one being that the
bitmap is not rendered at all before the window is activated, the second one
being that horizontal lines show up in the bitmap if I have another window
covering the dialog and then minimizing that window.
Conclusion: bug seems to be fixed but there are (at least) two other bugs that
should be reported separately.

MSXML SP2 installer +msi trace (lzma compressed)
With wine-1.3.6-240-g791b22a, after running the MSXML4 SP2 redist installer
with default installation settings, the side-by-side assembly files are placed
in "C:\SXS" rather than the expected "C:\windows\system32\winsxs" directory.
This seems to hurt the Flight Simulator X demo, which complains about broken
MSXML4 SP2 installation on startup. The SP3 version of the redist doesn't seem
to have this problem. A +msi trace is attached on the presumption that the
issue is msi-related.

'setup.exe' when I explore & they both fail to confirm installation at the end

Both it & Race Driver games make 2 entries in 'Wine uninstaller' list, which
doesn't happen on 'real windows'!!
No 'bug reported'?!

In the current git (wine-1.3.6-335-gd5fa2ce) the app doesn't crash anymore: it
shows an error dialogue stating:
'Unable to load NeoGeo System Bios rom neo-geo.rom'
Since I don't have the required system bios and don't know if that's legal to
download one I couldn't proceed further but something tells me the application
is working now ;)
Please re-test the application with a recent Wine.

Is there a way to disable gstreamer support (so it works like 1.3.5)?

Using Ubuntu 10.10 x86_64, with wine 1.3.6 installed from the ppa.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Create a fresh wineprefix.
2) Install LEGO Digital Designer 4.0. (Can be fetched from
http://ldd.lego.com/download/default.aspx)
3) Attempt to launch it.
The attached text file contain the error messages appearing, and wine fails to
start the application.
Asking around on IRC, if there was a way to disable gstreamer within wine gave
me an effective workaround. Running the following command:
# regsvr32 /u winegstreamer
seems to make the application able to launch.
I also notice that bug 24933 have the same error message mentioned (which seems
to be the only hit on google while searching for this error).

wine-dev lol. Anyway this didnt work for me getting this in terminal

driver

makes my cursor disappear when i shut my laptop screen. Nevertheless, the game

Summary: Wine iexplore crashes during the printing
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.40
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: mshtml
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: kondratyuk(a)etersoft.ru
wine 1.1.40, gecko 1.1.0
I run program and print with OleCommandTargetExec (calls print_exec). After
several calls to print_exec program crashes.
For example:
$ wine iexplore c:\\test.html
test.html content simple "helloworld" string. Print from context menu.
Backtraces are different, similar on memory damage.
More often crashes occurs on HEAP_CreateFreeBlock function, I think that it is
not important...

Screenshot from Chris on wine 1.0.0
On some systems, the starting screen (and, for what it's worth, in-game
screens) doesn't have any textures / colours on the models. A screenshot
(provided by Chris in the KOTOR discussion pages on appdb) is attached that
demonstrates this.
This issue is present on systems with the following specifications:
* Pentium III with an Nvidia Riva TNT2 M64 card
* ~1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, and an Intel 945G (GMA)
This issue is *not* present on systems with the following specifications:
* HP with integrated graphics
* ~1.6GHz Pentium 4, 256MB RAM, Nvidia FX5600
This was observed by me previously, but I put it down to my use of a computer
that wasn't good enough to be able to run 3D games under wine. Recent comments
in the discussion for this program have indicated that this is also an issue on
more recent systems that should be able to run the program properly.
As seen in the discussion for SW:KOTOR:

With Wine 1.3.6@Ubuntu 10.10 and Winambulancia 6.8, I get the same results.
Either a regression, since the program was able to run some time before, or
change in the program. I'll try with older version of both Wine and
Winambulancia.

Hm, perhaps Maarten/Aric's recent quartz/gstreamer stuff has helped here?

Works fine as far as I can tell in wine-1.3.6-304-g4cd2a0e. There is some
overlapping text that's a big ugly, but the models, etc. render okay for me on
nvidia.
