Correct, this patch doesn't handle all cases. That's why it's here not in Wine.

With the latest World of Warcraft Patch 4.0.1 i only have low quality settings
available in the graphics section.
Some settings are not selectable cause of missing shader 3.0.
See the screenshot for details.
I am using Ubuntu x64 10.04 and tried it with wine 1.2.1 and 1.3.4.
Game runs with opengl and a NVIDIA 9600 GT (Ubuntu 10.04 nv driver).
The game itself is running fine but just low settings.

With the four patches starting with
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2010-October/094566.html
the "Tale of the Twister" demo starts fine, its only remaining problem
seems to be the lack of ID3DXFont. I've filed that as bug 24754.
Kapu Cave, however, still fails to start, so we can't close this bug yet, I
think.
I'll look for a downloadable demo that also still fails to start.

Textures on EverQuest2 are normal when shader distance are not turned on. With
shader distance turned on their is a few issues.
First Issue is a clipping issue I believe. When shader distance are turned on
and when you move your character you can see a translucent reflection of you.
The reflection will be the spot you were at previously. Now when you enable
bloom this graphic error does not happen anymore. Their is a error with this
work around. With some zones with bloom enabled the whole screen will turn
white.
This is with no bloom.

This is with bloom.

Second Issue is some textures with shader distance enabled reflect the
surroundings. It does not have the shadowing effect like above where you have
to move to see the error with the complex shader distance. If complex shader
distance turned of this texture glitch does not happen anymore. Also, I found
out a way to fix this graphic glitch. If you minimize the window and then
resize the window this graphic issue will not happen until the game is
rebooted.

Summary: Plants vs Zombies is stretched on widescreen monitors
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.38
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: malteskarupke(a)web.de
Plants vs Zombies is stretched on widescreen monitors. In Windows the game
displays black bars on both sides of the screen instead. (see
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16096 for example
screenshots for the desired behavior)
This results in seemingly erroneous mouse input. Because the game assumes, that
it is not stretched, and that there are black bars on the side. The attached
screenshot illustrates the problem. In that screenshot, my mouse is at the
position where the Quit button should be, (and the Quit button is highlighted
as a result) but the button is displayed further to the right because the
display is stretched. While this is a minor problem in the menu, once inside
the game it is really annoying, because you always have to click slightly to
the side of where you want things to go. And collecting coins or sun is very
annoying, because it is supposed to be just mindless clicking, but now you
never get the location right on the first try.
This bug has only been present since 1.1.38, because before that the game
suffered from (the similar, but worse) bug 19373. I think that bug and and this
bug are related. That bug drew the game at the wrong position, and this bug
draws the game in the wrong size.
The bug is also present in the free demo version of the game, so that can be
used for testing.

Summary: Deadlock in vectored exception handling
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.0
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: ntdll
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: krissn(a)op.pl
When running MapSource (a Garmin GPS map manager) I noticed that the
application will hang soon after starting. The hang occurs at random time when
MapSource is drawing the map on the screen. The log output clearly indicates a
classic deadlock:
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7efec6e0
"/var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/wine-1.3.0/work/wine-1.3.0/dlls/ntdll/exception.c:
vectored_handlers_section" wait timed out in thread 001b, blocked by 0009,

err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7e9f3d80
"/var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/wine-1.3.0/work/wine-1.3.0/dlls/gdi32/gdiobj.c:
gdi_section" wait timed out in thread 0009, blocked by 001b, retrying (60 sec)
Some deeper investigation revealed that the GDI's DIB exception handler is
involved in this problem. Here's the scenario:
1. Thread A calls a GDI function. The function takes the "gdi_section".
2. Thread B raises an exception (could be a C++ exception). The
call_vectored_handlers() function is called to call the handlers. The
"vectored_handlers_section" is entered.
3. Thread B execues the X11DRV_DIB_FaultHandler(), which eventually leads to a
call to GetObjectW() and in turn GDI_GetObjPtr(). The last one blocks on
"gdi_section".
4. Thread A throws an Access Violation exception in the DIB functions. The
call_vectored_handlers() function is called, but this time it blocks on
"vectored_handlers_section"
A possible solution would be to replace the "vectored_handlers_section" by a RW
lock. This would ensure that multiple exception handlers are called
simultaneously while still maintaining consistency in case the vectored
exception handler list needs to be changed.

On startup, Crystal Cubes (a freeware tetris clone in 3D) shows an error
dialogue, stating a runtime error happened, then it terminates. There is
nothing relevant in the console.
Installing native msxml3 via winetricks makes the game happy, and it starts up
correctly (after a native d3dx9_36.dll is also installed).
The game reads its configuration from the settings.xml file.
Link to the game's installer added to URL (14 Mb).

The game installs and starts fine. When running the program, the opening movie
plays, but only the audio can be heard. The entire screen is just a scrambled
mess of colors or maybe plain white with random black lines. The mouse cursor,
however, appears perfectly, and audible clues are heard when the mouse tracks
over a clickable hotspot.
Unsure if game would be playable if this were fixed. In earlier Wine versions
this was not a problem, but the game was unplayably slow once actual gameplay
began.

Hi guys,
First off, thanks for an amazing product!
I am running Oblivion and have been doing so successfully under Wine 1.2
As soon as the 1.3.3 version was installed, the video in the game was rendered
differently.
Everything in the game is still functional, with the exception of anything that
needs to be rendered in 3d.
The status displays (2d) are rendered correctly, as is the mouse icon. These
are still dynamic.
The sounds and the interactivity are the same, including the physics.
The menus are functional as well.
I have tried reloading different saves and creating a new game, thinking that
perhaps it was just a corrupted save tree... but no :(
I would really like to get this game working again, the regression is a pain in
the ass, but I don't want to have to go back to 1.2 unless I have no other
choice...
Thanks in advance!

A workaround was posted to http://bugs2.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=6623 (not
sure if it still applies) - see #6. So I think the problem is well known and
not fixed. You could read the comment, it describes the problem very well.

Hi,
I followed the instructions for downloading Debian Lenny and it worked
fine.
The package recommends:
ia32-libesd-alsa0 ia32-libesd0 ia32-libjack0 ia32-libcapi20-3 ia32-libcapi20
Apparently the current Lenny replaces these with
ia32-libs
and the recommends don't exist. I have lost the record but the
audio/ia32 process produced a bunch of confusing processe messages while
I was downloading ia32-libs.
As far as I can tell Rosetta stone worked without either though.
Confusing or not your version wine seems to be working fine: Congratulations!

The Wine error:

Explanation:
This error is shown in the console every time I try to add a .torrent file via
WebUI while running µTorrent 2.0, but never when I'm running µTorrent 1.8.5.
What that means is that µTorrent 2.0 is using a Windows API (ReplaceFile with
the REPLACEFILE_IGNORE_MERGE_ERRORS flag), which Wine hasn't yet fully
implemented. As such, the right course of action is to file a bug report with
Wine and get them to fix the issue.

The patch's author does not seem to take in account that there may be two

likely to handle the first started window alone, whereas the second window keep
on conducting as if there was not a patch applied. Can anybody reproduce?

Summary: Tron 2.0 mouse trying to revert every user movement
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc5
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: NightNord(a)gmail.com
There is some strange problem with Tron 2.0 mouse look:
Symptoms: Every time you are moving camera for some degree to one side, it jump
back for a bit fewer degree to opposite side, resulting in hardly usable mouse
look.
There is some things I found about this bug:
1) Joystick interface has no such bug. I.e. it affects only _pointer_ devices.
2) If I'm running game in virtual desktop and mouse pointer initially was not
in game resolution space, it will stay visible and will reflect any movement,
including revert moves. I.e. game definitely trying to keep pointer stay still.
Maybe some hack like MouseWrapOverride=force, but on game side. (tested with
any possible mwo setting: disabled,enabled,force)
3) Setting pointer exactly in screen center or game-space center makes no
difference. (Pointer operations via xwrappointer program)
4) Xi2 patch making things even worse, but this issue still exists - Xi2 will
not help here.
In my opinion, game trying to reset pointer on it's pre-move position. Maybe
there is some special flag or whatever in native directx, so game later may
differ user-initiated mouse-move from itself-initiated one. And it seems that
wine not setting thig flag or whatever. Cons of such theory - game not trying
to revert own-initiated jump, so it seems to differ it anyway and revert
movement in depends on sensibility settings and may be much lesser than
original movement in some situations.
Also, there is appdb record about some 'DVD' version, which may have no such
problems. I'm trying to test specified versions, if this is some kind of
regression.
Currently known affected versions:
1.1.44, 1.2_rc5

Summary: Black text background and black controls on Intel

Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.4
Platform: x86

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sb56637(a)gmail.com
Hi,
I used to use wine with no problems with versions <1.1. But now, from wine 1.1
onwards, it causes major problems on my laptop with Intel GMA 4500MHD onboard
graphics.
My win32 programs are unusable because text that should have a slightly
highlighted background becomes black, and many controls also turn black. Here
is a screenshot of wineconf with a clean .wine directory:
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/4959/snapshot7o.png
This is a mild example here, other programs are impossible to use due to black
controls and text, it makes it so I can't see labels on the buttons nor
highlighted search text. I have confirmed the same behavior on openSUSE 11.3
and Ubuntu 10.10. Wine 0.9.37 on openSUSE 11.3 does not present this problem.
This appears to be the same bug here:
http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=50746
Thanks for the help!

Summary: Computer Randomly Naps When Playing World of Warcraft
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.42
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jeffoldham1(a)gmail.com
I did my best too look for a similar situation and didn't find one, so here
goes:
After getting World of Warcraft all installed, tweaked and patched up on this
new partition, everything seems to be working wonderfully, but only for about
10 minutes at a time. After about that amount the screen goes dark and
unresponsive, like the computer is suspended or something. It used to ask for a
password to unlock the screen as soon as going dark, but the login window was
only responsive for a few seconds before everything went black.
I first tried adjusting my settings under gnome power management and gnome
screensaver; IE, telling the computer never to sleep under the former and to
turn off the screensaver under the latter. When this didn't fix the problem I
used gconf-editor and turned on both "use screensaver settings" under power
management and "Disable_lock_screen" under gnome desktop, but this has only
succeeded in getting rid of the login box; the computer still seems on standby
as it hums along just like it always does.
Thanks for your help!

A step by step show of how the error is gotten w/ edited terminal output
session
During a debug of a set of 3rd party DLL's combined with a program, calls to
memory pages which need to be ?swapped in? will cause an Unhandled page fault
when stepi is used, *but* will run properly if that code segment is executed
seamlessly. Essentially, the debugger is interfering with the page swapping
algorithms intermittently making debugging nearly impossible.
The test program is ebook_msc.exe found here:

In the attachment, a short step by step view of how to re-create the bug is
given including my comments (!)
The backtrace often shows the error point in ntdll.

The dbghelp problem is gone in 1.3.4 (even without native dbghelp).
It still crashes on startup unless the right version of the NoDVD patch is
installed (exception c0000005 is the typical error there), but that's no longer
related to dbghelp and probably shouldn't even be a bug on its own (I think
there's a meta-bug for Tages copy protection not working)

I think that dardack would have to submit it, reveal his identity and
demonstrate that he has no affiliation with Microsoft. Otherwise, I am not sure
that the WINE project's requirements would allow WINE's developers to even look
at it.

One more thing to note is that despite what everyone is saying, it appears to
happen much more often on ATI. When I switched from an NVIDIA Geforce 8800GTS
to an ATI Radeon HD 5770, Counter Strike Source immediately began crashing at
random(when it never did on NVIDIA). I had not updated or otherwise changed
versions of wine after installing the new card.

Sure. Assuming an empty wineprefix (vcrun2005 required only for new free mektek
release of MW4 mercs, directplay for multiplayer issues, the rest for videos):
winetricks vcrun2005 directx9 directplay quartz
copy native amstream.dll to installation folder.
As mentioned above, autoconfig executable does not work, so create the
options.ini file (if it doesn't exist) with the content from MechWarrior 4:
Vengeance, as I stated in appdb.winehq.org.

Try again with the latest git (with built-in msxml3). Most XSLPattern queries
should work now.

Valve, as of yesterday, has introduced a major update that has broken the
application. When playing in an active game server --at sporadic times-- the
game will become unplayable with the framerate being under 10 FPS and the ping
climbing past 200ms. This is not due to hardware or network issues but the
application and WINE itself. The game continues to work normally for native
Windows users. A couple of other WINE users have reported this issue in TF2's
WINE AppDB comment section.

Summary: qemu.exe exhausts file descriptors (regression)

Status: NEW
Keywords: download, regression
Severity: normal

Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mstefani(a)redhat.com
There is a regression in Wine triggered by qemu.exe:
wine client error:31: pipe: Too many open files
Good: wine-1.1.38
Bad: wine-1.3.0-166-g277040d
Steps to reproduce (courtesy of Kevin Wolf):
- Get the qemu source either from git or a release tar-ball; qemu-0.12.5.tar.gz
will do.
- Install the mingw cross compiling environment (on Fedora: yum install
mingw32-gcc mingw32-SDL mingw32-zlib)
- Unpack and cd to the qemu dir.
- ./configure --target-list=i386-softmmu
--cross-prefix=/usr/bin/i686-pc-mingw32- (this is for Fedora)
- Link the SDL.dll and zlink.dll to the qemu.exe dir so Wine can find them. On
Fedora:
ln -s /usr/i686-pc-mingw32/sys-root/mingw/bin/zlib1.dll i386-softmmu/
ln -s /usr/i686-pc-mingw32/sys-root/mingw/bin/SDL.dll i386-softmmu/
- Run qemu:
wine i386-softmmu/qemu.exe -L pc-bios -hda $DISKIMAGE
- After a few seconds something like:
"wine client error:3f: pipe: Too many open files" will show up and qemu will
hang.
I'm running a regression test at the moment.

Canon DPP 3.4.1.1 - When an image is opened in an Edit window with "Fit to
window" the image is shifted up by about 20%, and the lower display region is
black. Sometimes almost the entire image display is corrupted. This occurs for
all image types:- cr2 (raw files), jpeg, and tiffs. (But note: the 50%,100% and
200% views all function correctly)
This bug also affects the before/after comparison when viewed with
fit-to-window (in both up/down & left/right modes, and in split single
image/single window modes).
If the fit-to-window issue can be resolved DPP would be much easier to use
(since this is a raw image converter and an image manipulation tool - seeing
the whole image is important). This issue appears to be a constant through each
release of DPP and also of wine (see the wine appdb test reports).

I write this because one of my students of Ubuntu just happen to do something
that i did not think of. He open winecfg and change the resolution to 10x800.
Winecfg allowed him to change to that resolution which created a problem when
opening winecfg or any other window without the resolution parameter.
My bug is about limiting the smallest resolution on winecfg. It should be
something around 640x480 since that is the lowest VGA. So resolutions lower
than 640x480 or maybe something smaller should not be allowed to make it a bit
more friendlier to new ubuntu and wine users.
My solucion was to edit the .wine/user.reg file, find the line that points to
the 10x800 resolution and change it there but this does not help in making it
easier to newcomers. Hope this gets somebody to help with this.
Thank you.

This patch appears to not apply cleanly to the latest git anymore as of

$ unzip -d ffvii ff7demo.zip
$ cd ffvii
$ wine ff7demo.exe
Watch as Cloud walks down the stairs. He'll raise his sword to swing,
then the screen is supposed to rotate and you're supposed to get dropped into
a fight/battle, but the game crashes.
For comparison, here's how to run on Windows 7:
Download
http://download.cnet.com/Final-Fantasy-VII-demo/3000-7538_4-10020419.html
extract zip
right click on ff7demo.exe, choose compatibility tab, use:
Windows 98/Windows ME mode
Run in 640x480 screen resolution
Disable visual themes
Disable desktop composition
This works, at least for a few minutes. I can't be completely sure
though, since it's not a clean install, and has had the full version
installed on it.

I'm not sure if it's driver related but I thought that it is in a first place
cause I tested this issue on two machines, both with AMD processor:
first AMD Athlon X2 2.1GHz (25W) 2GB DDR3 of RAM, Radeon 4200MB 256MB DDR2 RAM
On this machine the problem is present and that what I use daily Ubuntu 10.04
and now Ubuntu 10.10 beta with drivers since 10.6 to current 10.10, since wine
1.2rc to 1.3.4.
second AMD Athlon X2 2.4GHz (65W) 2GB DDR2 RAM, Geforce 6100 IGP Ubuntu 10.04
But on second machine I didn't update wine nor it's configuration for long time
I don't have much contact with that machine. After finding workaround with
winversion and installing wine 1.3.4 which broke that workaround I changed my
mind more towards wine bug, but if you have some other expirience on other
hardware please share it with us.

Tried using it to patch 1.1.44 under osx too, also with no effect. The patch
works fine for me on 1.2 patched and built in ubuntu running in virtual box
(agonizingly slowly though, at a rate of less than 1 fps, but that's almost
certainly vbox's fault).

Well, applying the 1.1.44 patch to wine 1.2 works flawless in Linux (tested
myself), but it doesn't means that it couldn't fail in other operating systems.
Did you tried some other older patched wine versions? It might point if this
fix is valid for you, because the patch itself didn't changed too much since
the first one (1.1.16), is just re-released from time to time to keep it
working with latest wine versions.

Running Zultys MXIE (a phone client to Zultys phone systems) I am seeing this
message repeating over and over (to a tune of thousands of times) while MXIE is
running:
fixme:tapi:lineGetDevCapsA (0x16ef128, 000229c2, 00020002, 00000000,

Wasn't seeing this previous to 1.3.1 running Zultys MXIE client, but since the
.xsessions-errors file was never an issue before, I've never looked. This is a
major problem as an average session of mxie will make for a 4 gig
.xsession-errors file.
As a work around, I've changed my ~/.xsession-errors to a symlink to /dev/null.

still getting this mistake... something may has changed in wine and so this is

my font appears to be too large, and it didn't change at all when I replaced

I really need to get this software to work, and I don't want to switch to

D3DXCheckTextureRequirements hack
The game here exits after a failing call to D3DXCheckTextureRequirements
(because of a CheckDeviceFormat with D3DFMT_R8G8B8). The attached patch (it's
really a hack) makes the game start, but with some important bugs: images
appear just in the upper left corner of the screen, no mouse pointer and
missing buttons. From the +d3dx log the likely culprits are buggy/incomplete
ID3DXFont and ID3DXSprite implementations (and maybe also something to do with
the d3dx texture functions).
As a workaround, native d3dx9_36 allows to play the game without issues, as far
as I can see.

Summary: Steam windows won't close sometimes
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc6
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: FinalCrisisSX(a)Hotmail.com
Windows in the current ("new ui") Steam sometimes refuse to close. They start
to fade out as if they're going to, but then pop back up.
I can consistently reproduce this via..
1) Right click the system tray icon for steam, and click "Library".
2) Right click the system tray icon for steam again, and click "Friends".
3) Try to click the close button on the steam Friends window. It will not work.
Note #1: The order seems semi-important. I don't know why, but it apparently
doesn't work AS consistently switching 1 & 2.
Note #2: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23353 this same bug marked as
solved is not solved. I replied, but it was not re-opened and I see nowhere
else to request it to be re-opened manually, so I'm assuming I needed to post a
new report. Many apologies if this was not the case.

I also confirm that only simple/unformatted text can be copied. I tried copying
text from Google Chrome to Mp3tag and it doesn't work. However if I paste first
the text into gedit and copy it from there into Mp3tag, it does.

Problem, you cant print checks like that, other wise I would being using it
under wine instead of Sun Virtual Box and XP. If you cant print invoices from a
financial app, it is not working perfectly at all.

The same happens in Wine-1.0.1.

I obtained the game via http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/ , which doesn't come
