I can run this games with wine now, but for some reason, sound effects will
play normally, but background music won't play at all. Movies are not playing
either.
I've tried with native QUARTZ, DSOUND, STREAMCI, tried installing codecs with
winetricks. Didn't change a thing.
Maybe it's related to this fixme I'm seeing on both games:

HEROES)
fixme:dsalsa:IDsDriverBufferImpl_SetVolumePan (0x19f740,0x19f640): stub (PSUAI)

But removing negotiate.c entirely would make it harder to work around bug

Screenshot showing missing window border in Safari 3.2
When loading up a new instance of Safari 3.2.3 (either loading up the browser,
or creating a "new window" from within the browser), the frame around the
window (including the ribbed triangle at the bottom right for resizing are
missing).
This is easily rectified by either:
- Resizing the window using the top-right corner
- Minimising the window and then maximising again
This seems to cause the border to be redrawn, after which it is present until
the window is closed; although any "new windows" spawned from Safari's File
menu will still show the glitch until they too are either resized or minimised.
I've attached a screenshot of the missing border for reference.

In Everquest II, the particle effects do not draw correctly. Most of the time
they don't show up at all, however, occasionally they are drawn and the screen
look correct for a split second.
This actually causes some of the important game features to not function
correctly. Playing with any GFX setting doesn't seem to fix it, including the
setting of ComplexShaderDistance to -1.

The needed patch to run Myst IV - Revelation
Hello,
the game Myst IV - Revelation offers some "special effects". That means that
more objects in the world are animated. Revelation is completely based on
pre-rendered images, and everything that moves is done through a video.
On some places, with many moving objects, these moving objects get black in
specific camera angles(you can rotate the camera free by 360°), and normal in
other angles. Most of the time during game that objects are just flickering or
black, since the "right" camera angle is very small. Regardless if the objects
are black or normal, they are moving correctly. I will attach 2 screenshots
which show the situation.
I will also attach a "hack" patch, which is needed to start Revelation. Without
it, the game just crashes.

I use several programs using Wine, and they run fine -- they all display some
text.
However I tested also FineReader 8.0 Pro using Wine -- previously I used it on
VirtualBox, and the general feel, usage, etc. was flawless.
Using wine is another story -- technically everything is ok, but displaying
text is an ordeal. FR shows menus, toolbar, etc and there is ok, but displaying
the "main" text, the OCR-ed version of the image makes program unusable.
For those who don't know FR -- FR shows a pane of internal word-processor, or
rather editor, it takes ~half of the screen. If I put a dialog over there, and
I move the dialog off, so the text has to be refreshed, or I scroll the pane,
or I edit something, so it would cause refresh -- I can almost see the text is
refreshing character after character.
There are no errors in Wine, nothing special.
Please tell me what kind of logs should I provide to investigate this issue
further.

When running Fantasy Grounds 2 the display flashes to black frequently. When

Demo is available here:

Reproduce: Install, Start, "Host game as gamemaster", "start", move mouse
around in game window
The following wined3d related messages are printed to the console:

The IWineD3DSwapChainImpl_Present message is printed frequently when moving the

I set the severity to trivial because otherwise the game seems to be usable,
BUT as you can't see anything most of the time it is really quite unplayable
with this bug.

This never happens when OSS is used; however, ALSA is desirable, as OSS is
extremely slow for this game.

Summary: Maximized and restored state not reported properly by
GetWindowPlacement
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux

Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dylan.ah.smith(a)gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=14562)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=14562)
wordpad: Properly save window rect on closing Min/Maximized windows
I initially noticed the bug in wordpad where closing the program while
minimized will cause it to be really small when opened the next time. This was
because wordpad was using GetWindowRect instead of GetWindowPlacement to get
the normal size and position of the window. The attached patch fixes that
issue, and I have submitted it to the wine-patches mailing list, however it
showed another bug in Wine that isn't in Windows.
Do the following steps to reproduce the bug:
1. Apply the attached patch to fix wordpad
2. Open Wine's version of Wordpad
3. Resize the window to be some size you will remember (e.g. skinny and tall)
4. Maximize the window
5. Close the window
6. Open wordpad again
7. If the window is maximized, then restore it.
Result in Windows:
The window is maximized after step 5, and will be restored to the same size the
window was resized to in step 3.
Result in Wine:
The result depends on the desktop environment settings. If you can take a
normal window, drag the corners to resize it to the size of a maximized window,
and have it actually be maximize, then the window will be maximized after step
6, otherwise it won't be. Either way, when you restore the window in step 7,
it will not be restored to the same window size.
I added in some printf statements to wordpad, and found that IsZoomed() and
GetWindowPlacement() were not recognizing the window as being maximized after
maximizing the window. GetWindowPlacement returns a WINDOWPLACEMENT structure
with a field rcNormalPosition, that should be filled with the position and size
the window should be restored to, but this contained the size and position of
the maximized window when the window was maximized.
Test case number 2:
1. Open up regedit
2. Change the DWORD value
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Applets/Wordpad/Options/Maximized"
to 1
3. Open Wine's wordpad
4. Restore the window
5. Close the window
6. Open wordpad again
Result in Windows:
The window will be the normal window size it was when wordpad was closed in
step 5.
Result in Wine:
The window will still be maximized.
This time IsZoomed() and GetWindowPlacement() returned values indicating that
the window was maximized after the window was restored.
Let me know if there are any problems with reproducing this bug.
My guess is that this is an x11 driver issue, but I haven't looked deep enough
into it to actually know. All I know is that my patch fixes the wordpad issues
in Windows.

When you double click on one of your contacts, a chat container opens. When I
drag that container outside of the screen on accident (even partially, just the

impossible to re-open the chat container. This leads me to believe that the

I should clarify that I do not drag the whole container outside the window. If
any of the container leaves the screen, the whole container disappears. Other
programs running in Wine (for example, NoLimits 1.6), do not cause this same

Summary: Minimize to tray broken - NoteTab
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.59.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: earther(a)eartherdesigns.com
Ubuntu Gutsy, Gnome and wine-0.9.59
Regression - NoteTab works pretty well in wine-0.9.58 (a few minor quirks)
Problem:
When NoteTab is launched, it only appears on the panel while loading. After
loading, it is nowhere to be seen on the panel. This makes it impossible to
minimize/maximize. If it is minimized from the application bar, it disappears
and there is no way to get it back. The process needs to be killed.
Photoshop and a few other Windows apps do not have this problem with
wine-0.9.59.
Testing:
Last night I installed wine-0.9.59 and NoteTab Pro 5.61 on a fresh install of
Ubuntu Gutsy on an old Dell and on Xubuntu Gutsy in Virtual Box.
Wine/NoteTab on the fresh install of Ubuntu produced the same bug which I
observed on three other Gutsy installs I tested including my new working box.
Several other NoteTab users also reported this bug on the NoteTab Linux list.
The shade format of XFCE handled minimizing NoteTab just fine. It has been
reported on the NoteTab Linux list, that it also works with KDE and XFCE on
Slackware.
I thought it might be related to Compiz that is running on my new machine but
since the bug also appeared on the old Dell that doesn't seem to be the case.
The bug seems to be Gnome specific.
NoteTab author, Eric Fookes also posted these comments which might be helpful
in correcting it:
"I suspect these issues affect any application that was compiled with Borland
Delphi. I very much doubt that NoteTab is the only application affected.
"Unlike programs created with other compilers, Delphi programs use an invisible
application window and a main application form that is the visible part of the
program. The Wine developers need to take this special approach into account if
they want their product to work correctly with all Delphi applications."
I searched and found several other possibly related bugs But wanted to report
the Gnome specificity and also the comments about Borland Delphi.
I have rolled back to wine-0.9.58 for the moment.

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: miken700(a)yahoo.com
Usually when starting up Homeworld v1.05, the sound will not work, but not
always. Works fine under Wine 0.9.53.
When it doesn't work it's broken from the very beginning. At the Sierra intro
movie, it will not have any sound. Then there will not be any sound throughout
the running of the program. There are no other noticeable issues during play.
But also when this happens upon a normal exit of the app via its menu system it
will normally (always?) hang in the console window after it closes its
application window. In the few cases when there is sound upon startup exiting
normally does not hang.
Choosing different audio drivers in winecfg seem to have any affect.
Running 'wineboot -s' or 'wineserver -k' doesn't seem to help either.
For a while it seemed like switching the default settings Windows Version in
winecfg back between 'Windows XP' and 'Windows 2000' would help, but usually
not. Probably just a coincidence though, as sometimes it will run fine anyway
and it certainly doesn't work every time.
Tested on the latest git version (wine-0.9.56-264-g848383a), broken there as
well as the release version (from gentoo distro wine-0.9.56).

wpkg is an interesting looking unattended
installation system for windows apps, said
to work on wine as long as you have ie6,
so I tried it without.
To work around bug 5541, you have to redirect the output of cscript.
Here's the recipe:
rm -rf .wine
winetricks vcrun6 wsh56
wget http://wpkg.org/files/stable/wpkg-0.9.10.tar.bz2
tar -xjvf wpkg-0.9.10.tar.bz2
cd wpkg-0.9.10
wine cscript wpkg.js /synchronize /debug | cat
This fails because of an msxml problem.

I don't know. Fixing this bug will not fix #9190, but enabling backbuffers

The game uses a different method (BACKBUFFER + 3DDEVICE), which is a bit more
complicated. The Combat Pillows game uses pure 2D backbuffer and just for
blitting.

Summary: Ad-Aware: Fails based on QueryDosDevice

Log of the output from launching Ad-AwareAdmin.exe (without FLTMGR.SYS)
Ad-Aware fails to run because Ad-AwareAdmin.exe fails to run.
To reproduce, download Ad-Aware,
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php , install it, and then when
you try to run Ad-Aware.exe it immediately says that Ad-AwareAdmin.exe failed
to launch and then continues trying to launch Ad-Aware.exe. When launching
Ad-AwareAdmin.exe itself it seems to fail for one of two reason.
1) It is missing FLTMGR.SYS.
2) There is an error message in the debugging, ERR [0034] 2010/03/30 23:50:28:
QueryDosDevice failed with error message 'File not foun' in method
'SystemUtil::ConvertToDevicePath' (..\SystemUtil.cpp:208) .
In order to eliminate 1, I copy FLTMGR.SYS to system32/drivers/ from a windows
xp partition. When running Ad-AwareAdmin.exe it crashes with a unhandled page
fault. I believe the real issue lies with, the error message in 2. I have tried
to find this SystemUtil.cpp but I don't see it in wine and google gives me
nothing. I assume then it is from Ad-Aware.
I am not sure what file it is looking for that can't be found. I originally ran
this program using appinstall and autohotkey. I had all the files verified and
sha1sum'ed based on what is installed in windows xp. So all of the ad-aware
files are installed. I believe something is not being converted correctly.

Good to know there is a demo for the game. I will try it today/tomorrow to see
if it uses the back buffer in the same way (i.e. only blitting, no other
playing with the swap chain).

The blizzard crash reporter information.
I've got starcraft 2 up and running. It's the retail version, updated.
I don't have a mmdevapi override, and I do have the kernel patch for icebp.
Twice now (out of two games i've tried to play) it's crashed out with a corrupt
file warning. First was:
e_fileCorrupt
"Your StarCraft II installation is corrupt. Would you like to run the Repair
tool now?"
Archive: C:\Program Files\StarCraft II\Versions\Base15405\Patch.SC2Archive *
File: Assets\Portraits\Terran\VikingPortrait\VikingPortrait.m3
Second was:
e_fileCorrupt
"Your StarCraft II installation is corrupt. Would you like to run the Repair
tool now?"
Archive: C:/Program Files/StarCraft II/Mods/Liberty.SC2Mod/Base.SC2Assets
File: Assets\Buildings\Protoss\FleetBeacon\FleetBeacon.m3
It offered to run the repair tool afterwards, but it didn't seem to change
anything.
I'll attach the console output as well as the latest blizzard crash reporter
info.

I'll just repeat what I heard from the experts (so don't ask me to explain).
The reason for the 'No Pixel Shader 2.0' error would be that the NVidia
proprietary driver reports the pixel size to be 63.75 instead of 64 as expected
by 3DMark.
Note that the error also happens with the Intel driver which means this may be
a general issue where OpenGL's and Direct3D's idea of where a pixel starts and
stops differs.

Summary: uTorrent is not shutting down correctly when system

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Hi! I have an issue with uTorrent (2.0.2 and older): it is not shutting down
correctly when host system is shutting down/rebooting. As a result, if I don't
quit uTorrent manually before rebooting, it rechecks all active torrents when
started, which is extremely slow on my poor Atom CPU. Perhaps uT doesn't
understands that the system is shutting down (doesn't receives WM_SHUTDOWN? Or
given too little time after that?). I'm experiencing this behavior since uT 1.8
(I think) and older versions of Wine (pre 1.0).
Steps to reproduce:
1) Start uTorrent
2) Add any torrent
3) Wait until it actually begins download
4) Reboot linux
5) Start uTorrent again (if not started automatically)
uTorrent begins rechecking all downloads that has been active at shutdown
Thanks!

Wine 1.2, yet ugly graphics in fullscreen (black box under mouse cursor leaving
traces, sprites for npcs and player are mixed), and in windowed mode there's no
movie playback (but game looks fine). Added a log

Good question :)
This used to require a huge amount of native dlls to work (IE, WMP and friends
+ siblings), but I'll try to find the SonicStage CD and make a new attempt
using Wine with no overrides.

Portal runs good (except from the mem consuming and the loosing on speed after
playing a longer time [strangely it's not enough to kill wine, but to kill X
...]).
Many times in the game I see a purple background most time when there is a
wall/ground where i can't put a portal or bigger background i can't even touch
like in the endscene (i attached a picture).
The ending video is played to the place where the br0k3n mashine lands (the sky
is purple too)
After this scene I'm missing the scene with the cake, the game just hangs up at
this time.
I will attach the whole wine output unabridged because i don't want to keep
back any information someone could use.

Ok, here's where Winamp installs the media library when I run the installer. It
winds up in Home/Documents/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/[user
name]/Application Data/Winamp.
It will actually play the demo mp3 right after installation so it seems to be
hitting it sort of. However; the media library still doesn't show. So which
Windows operating system does it think its running under? I have Wine set to
Windows 7. That folder layout looks like maybe Windows 98 or something..

Workaround for Pulseaudio + ALSA sound crash:
pulseaudio server has to be restarted, with "pulseaudio --kill". Then in the
wow, go to the sound settings, and you see there 2 sound devices. If you select
the other one (in my case: system, system default), which is not currently
selected, the wow sound will reinitalize, and you'll get a working sound back.
Not seem to be a wine issue, more like a pulseaudio issue.

I'm having this same problem. As far as I can tell, the winamp media library is
stored in "C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Winamp" in
Windows.
Where or how does Wine use the "documents and settings" folder? Is that
configurable in Wine? I think Winamp can't see that folder. That's causing the
Media Library not to display. The media library location is not configurable in
Winamp..

Folders containing output from wine run from command line
OED.EXE (Oxford English Dictionary) is a win31 application. It has run with
only a minor problem (displaying greek fonts) under wine through version 1.19.
With wine version 1.20 it runs but on closing (using the close button in the
right hand corner of the title bar) an error message about winevdm is
displayed. Under versions 1.21 through 1.25 starting the application only
causes the winevdm message and the surrounding window frame for the application
to display. I then have to use force quit to kill it.
I'm using ubuntu 9.04 with kernel 2.6.28-13-generic.
I'm attaching a zip file with the output from wine when I run the program from
the command line for each of the three versions 1.19, 1.20 and 1.21 plus a
screen shot of the winevdm error message for the latter two versions.
In the past there have been times when a change in wine has caused the oed to
fail, but this is the first time a problem has persisted through some many new
versions.

When running wing commander 4 dvd edition the game runs fullscreen using xrandr
to change to a desktop resolution of 640x480. However when the ingame cinematic
movies play via quartz they resize the screen back to the system default
resolution (2560x1600 in my case) and the movie appears in the top left corner
of the screen in a 640x480 overlay. Correct behaviour should be the game stays
at the ingame resolution of 640x480 and doesn't switch using xrandr for movie
playback. Else the movie should be stretched to fullscreen.

It's not a religious or ethical issue, but a legal one. Encouraging software
piracy gets wine in hot water.
Wine runs plenty of bible/koran studying software, and also some malware.
However, wine does not intentionally attempt to support malware, nor software
piracy.
Mfc42 may be implemented someday to help legitimate applications, not
keyloggers/generators. If they benefit, that would be unintentional.

There are programs that need the MFC.dll series and copying from windows
installation won't work even if they are the same.
If we work better with notepad.exe and regedit.exe implemented, shy wouldn't we
implement also some other libraries? If wine had strictly APIs will be
unusable. How many programs and libraries to implement as open source? Well,
from my point of view in depends on how much progress in the development are we
achieving.
I think religious or ethical issues like not developing libraries for a
program that read the bible or another that generates keys or another that
decompiles software, is a seatback in wine development. If not developing them,
I think it should obbey to other reasons.
I have an example 19KB program written in Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 and needs
the following libraries (see attachment for details).

analyse this and I see it is the eight of image was not adjustable. when you
maximise window, all 2/3 of image is not line up with screen. When I
unmaximize, the window can be adjustable, and I can stretch it at the
resolution of world editor, but, the window is small and you don't see
correctly. I think if the resolution of world editor is adjustable, the bug

StarCraft II ran smoothly in wine. A couple of days ago, two parameters

- I updated OpenSuse from 11.2 to 11.3.
- StarCraft II Patch 17 came out.
Now SC2 is very unstable. The following happens when I launch StarCraft II
Beta:
1) About 70% of the time, SC2 would crash immediately and not draw its window.
2) About 15% of the time, SC2 would crash after a couple of seconds in main
menu.

Summary: Silent Hill 2: messing up with pixels
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.29
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: t0p0linik(a)yahoo.it
I attached the video clip showing ingame behaviour. The game is unplayable. I
simply started a new game just to show you the issue.
First of all, look at the fading effects: graphics gets wrong when starting
fading.
Let's start, skip the intro (it's bink video, this works ok) and look what
happens into the room: some walls move, some others don't, James leaves a
"shadow" made of pixels behind himself, this is disgusting.
Then, after finishing the intro ("Mary... could you really be in this town?") I
try to get out from that room: this isn't easy at all! At last, I get out
(again, the fading is corrupted).
Now, the worst: outside, soon the fog covers everything so what you can see is
just...fog! And the statements don't disappear, they just appear one above
another, while the fog makes the older ones fade.
Please, help!
Is this a wine issue? or is it a video driver issue?
Note that this doesn't happen when I run "native" games (such as
neverball/neverputt).

I still experience lags with in-game mouse pointer and really slow movements
especially in combat in stable 1.2. Probably that's because I have much weaker
hardware than you (notebook with 1-core AMD Turion 2.0 GHz + VIA Chrome9 video
card). But it's still tens times faster than a hardware needed to run Fallout
1/2 flawlessly on Windows.

In current git (1.2), I do not experience lag with the mouse in-game in Fallout
1 and 2. Can some of the posters try again? If you still experience jerky
movements and lag, can you tell me how to reproduce this bug?

Tested and confirmed working with Xorg 1.8.1.902 and latest wine git, using
Mass Effect 2 as the test case. I was actually just looking into this with the
intent to fix it. Guess you beat me to it :P Nice work in any case.
My only gripe with the patch is the profusion of magic numbers. I would
suggest using #define's to make the code more readable and more robust, but it
looks like that is not common practice in the wine code base. One other
thought is that it might be a good idea to translate the rest of the dinput API
implimentation to XInput2. It seems like there is already a pretty
straightforward 1:1 correspondence between a lot of the dinput functions and
XInput2 functions.
Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the patch, and keep up the good work. Now off to
play some ME2

This does appear to be fixed but for a different reason. Wine no longer appears
to create the situation where a device symlink (d::) is present but a drive
symlink (d:) is not. Winecfg will still choose d: for the new drive if d:: is
present and d: is not, but that situation will not occur naturally.

this fix does nothing to warp or prevent regular mouse motion outside windows.
instead it properly notifies them with a simulated WM_MOUSEMOVE clipped to
their client edge when the pointer leaves the window, which fixes edge
scrolling.

Maybe I made something wrong I patch the wine 1.2 final source as:
patch -p1 > madscientist-X11DRV_LeaveNotify.patch
It made 4-5 lines, so it was patched...
I tested in Thief-Deadly Shadows and America's Army 3, both has the same mouse
could not escape from the window so you could not turn around, this patch DID
NOT WORK.

I had a go at fixing them, by changing TRACE/ERR/etc., but it then breaks on
other platforms. It's detected somewhere for other platforms, but not for
OpenBSD. Unfortunately, I don't know where that is :-). If someone could point
me in the right direction, I'll have a go at it.

Summary: Alpha Centauri will not run
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc5
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: intyalle(a)gmail.com
Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire both install perfectly, but upon running I
can only get as far as the screen to choose which version to play (original or
expansion). Upon choosing one or the other, the program promptly closes and
wine reports an app crash.
