Alternatively, both Fedora 13 and openSUSE 11.3 (to be released 15 Jul 2010)
both report 1.8.0 in their version strings. Hopefully other distributions are
not far behind if not already there.

Sigh. I guess I'm poorly informed about exact version numbers, but I'm pretty
sure Ubuntu 10.04 is sufficient for testing XInput2-based patches.

Speaking as someone running 10.04, isn't it the case that it's running X 1.7
with a lot of backported 1.8 features?
Also, up to date 10.04 currently thinks I have
$ X -version
X.Org X Server 1.7.6
Release Date: 2010-03-17
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Is there an update I missed somewhere, or is this sufficient for testing
patches from this bug?

We are focused on XInput2 because that's how X.org is providing the needed
relative motion events. In other words, there will probably be *no*
fix provided for X versions below 1.8. If you want to help test these
patches, the easiest way at the moment may be to install Ubuntu 10.04,
which is the first distro that ships with X 1.8.

Hi
Thanks for the patch Vitaly.
I will recompile wine while i get some food and post the result.
Does the patch work with:
manuel@think:/mnt/data$ X -version
+
X.Org X Server 1.7.7
Release Date: 2010-05-04
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 x86_64 Debian
Current Operating System: Linux think 2.6.34-0.slh.9-sidux-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT
Sat Jun 12 23:27:41 UTC 2010 x86_64
Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.34-0.slh.9-sidux-amd64

Build Date: 03 June 2010 03:01:44PM
xorg-server 2:1.7.7-2 (Julien Cristau <jcristau(a)debian.org>)
Current version of pixman: 0.16.4
Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org
to make sure that you have the latest version.
Or is it just for X Server 1.8 ? And if so when will be X 1.8 in Debian
unstable ?
Another note: the patch http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=25097 does not
work anymore with wine greater than 42. I dont know if this is because my X
version has changed and i have now X2 input or if wine has changed and it is
not working anymore. This affects Borderlands version 1.2 of the game.
If my X is not Xinput 2 and the patch from Vitaly is only for X2 then please
submit a new patch for the older X versions without X2.
Thanks for your great support on this really long living bug in wine.

asking for somebody else to solve it, should avoid posting in Bugzilla.

You are very intelligent!
So if I'm not a coder and a tech guru who will not patching and debugging,
because I cannot, than I should "STFU".
If you also could not say anything useful please do not comment more.

A patch is one of the steps towards fixing Wine. Don't complain about it, it
will find its way into Wine soon enough.
Be thankful that with XI2 it's actually possible to fix this and that somebody
is working on this!
Having said that: Thank you Vitaliy so far!

Hi
That patch fixes the click registering issues in ME1 and AvP 2 MP Demo, but
still both have the same mouse movement issues (ME1 - no movement, AvP 2 -
crazy movement with mouse inside window, normal movement with mouse outside
window) as describribed above.

i have tried version 1.1.24 with the same result. i think wine does not have

I probably shouldn't be assigned to this bug right now since I haven't been
working on it since the last patch attached to this bug.
The EM_FORMATRANGE patch that has been deferred until after the code freeze
should help with handling a different target DC, but I don't think Google Talk
just uses NULL for the target DC passed to TxDraw.

Version: 1.2-rc5
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: kernel32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: denis.bonnenfant(a)diderot.org
When opening a file in SolidWorks 2010, it crashes with this message :
wine: Call from 0x7bc4b0a0 to unimplemented function
KERNEL32.dll.QueryMemoryResourceNotification, aborting
It sounds quite explicit that this function has to be implemented, or maybe
just stubbed ?
I'm not sure if it is a regression or not, as it used to work with SW2009 up ro
rc4, I will test it again to be sure.

There is a regression that prevents "bt all" from working correctly.

winedbg: Store the CONTEXT in each stack frame to enable register access in
the non topmost frames.
I used the multithreaded test program from bug #20617
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20617 to test this problem.
This is what a failure looks like:

On Linux the reported byte position is twice byte 0/11.
In addition, when gecko is present, there are 5 occurrences of

Starting from 1.2-rc1 fonts smoothing enabled by default, but I wasn't able to
disable it even after setting the following:
[CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
FontSmoothing=0
FontSmoothingType=0
I was able to disable smoothing by commenting this in /etc/fonts/local.conf
<match target="font">
<edit name="rgba" mode="assign">
<const>rgb</const>
</edit>
</match>
But starting from 1.2-rc2 even this trick doesn't allow to disable smoothing.

Hi,
I'm using wine for a long time to play one of my favourite game : Heroes of the
pacific. The game was working great from wine 1.01 to wine 1.1.22 (1.1.23 does
not work at all), but since 1.1.24 to 1.1.32 i have noticed a several
performance regression.
Let me explain :
When i play a mission where there is only water and no ground, there is no
performance issue, but when i play a mission where there is a ground and when i
look at the ground, there is a several performance issue (but when i only look
at the sky, no problem, strange isnt it ?) that does not appears in wine before
1.1.22.
I've tried to do a regression test but it's very difficult because 1.1.23 does
not work with the game.
P.S: Excuse me for my poor english, it's not my primary language :s

When trying to install IZArc the installer crashes with an exception. The
program installs fine afterwards so I guess this is a minor bug but it's a
crash nonetheless.

Testing various stuff with putty for appinstall, I found PuTTY never times out.
Very easy to test:
$ wget http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe
$ wine putty.exe www.google.com
On windows, times out after about 45-60 seconds (doesn't seem to be a hardcoded
value, though). On wine, let it run for 5 minutes and no timeout.

Summary: Macromedia Fireworks 8 trial sliders do not work
properly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.10
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=91PXTDPF
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: arethusa26(a)gmail.com
With today's Git (wine-1.1.10-267-g78798e3), the slider controls in Macromedia
Fireworks 8 do not work in a particular circumstance. The sliders can be
interacted with in two ways:
1. Holding down the slider arrow button, dragging the mouse up or down on the
slider to move the slider cursor around, then releasing the mouse to close the
slider.
2. Clicking once on the slider arrow button, then dragging the slider cursor to
move it around. The slider window only disappears when there is a click event
outside the slider window or the Fireworks window loses focus.
On Wine, the second option does not work properly. Clicking once on the slider
arrow, dragging the slider around, then clicking on an area outside the slider
does not dismiss the slider. The Fireworks window has to lose focus for the
window to disappear, which is an annoyance.
To reproduce:
1. Start Fireworks 8 and select the Create New Fireworks File option in the
main window and accept the default setting.
2. Select the Text tool, either by pressing the T key or selecting the A icon
under the Vector toolbar on the left hand side.
3. In the Properties window at the bottom of the window, there are several
slider controls that can be used to reproduce the problem which are denoted by
a button with a down arrow. Clicking once on the arrow then clicking outside
the slider window is sufficient to reproduce the problem, as the slider window
does not disappear as it would on Windows.

Here's the funny bit: if you copy one of these executables

winetricks vcrun2005sp1
it runs. But if you then install the app, that copy of echoid.exe

the installer is damaging the vcrun2005sp1 installation?!

The app also seems to run ok. The main hitch seems to be a dialog
that comes up on first run saying "Searching..." which takes forever;
fortunately, you can cancel that.
The first thing I tried to do was play a .wav file. That crashed
with an uninformative backtrace. Happily, turning on +relay,+seh

Or was that the breakage caused by a HackShield update, not a change in Wine?

Apparently, HackShield works in 1.0.1 Stable. Of course being as old at it is,
I'd rather not use it, and I'm pretty sure it's at least part of the reason why
my computer keeps crashing when playing the game.
Anyone know where the difference is between the versions that allows it to run?
I'm looking at it but I don't really have any experience with the wine source,
or Windows internals. :S

Summary: Team Fortress 2 launched from within steam loads, but
crashes when launching any map
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.13
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P1
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: zacharyjwelch(a)gmail.com
fully updated: Linux hostname 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC
2008 i686 GNU/Linux
Downloaded latest version of Steam YESTERDAY (1/19/09) from
www.steampowered.com and used it to download and update the latest release of
TF2 from my orangebox purchase.
The game launches from steam properly (after some tweaking) and i can see all
the main menu options, click and do.
However, when i "find servers" and choose a server to connect to, after I get
the familiar loading screen as all content is downloaded locally for the
server, it gets about 2/3 done loading and crashes. (TF2 not steam) with a pop
up error window saying:
Engine Error
CAudioSourceMemWave (****\***********.wav); GetDataPointer() failed.
where *\*.wav is any random directory and _.wav depending on which map is
trying to load. I tried it about 6 times and each time it was a different file
in a different location. The files are present in those locations however.
Also, after clicking "OK" on the error, clicking on my gnome system bar makes
it disappear, flash, both or crash the PC. depends how he gods of wine feel
that day.
I was unable to "Disable audio" in any manor that solved this.
I did add the following "registry" entires after the initial install per the
following thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=587780
and I reduced all the graphical options to minimum per suggestions in
debugging. This looks very much like a sound issue, so here's my sound config:
$sudo lspci|grep audio
05:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Audigy (rev 04)
In my wineconf I have ALSA and OSS active and seem to have no other problem
with other applications (have WoW, Digsby, Ventrilo installed currently) except
some mic issues with vent.
Since steam is loaded from an icon in my wine menu that I added there is no
command window ouput. And at the moment I cant do anything else because my PC
is crashing as a result of all this....(which is why I chose "critical" status)
To be continued....

refining my previous comment.
OrCad is an MDI (?) app. I.e. multiple windows in a workspace.
The place part functionality fails if the specific schematic window within the
workspace loses focus, either by clicking on another window in the workspace,
or moving the mouse outside the workspace.
Could it be that WINPOS_ActivateOtherWindow() is activating the 'wrong' window?
I do have a patch that allows test mentioned in #22 to succeed, and yet OrCad
to work.
Copy static DEFDLG_GetDlgProc, then use it thus:
{
DLGPROC dlgproc;
if (!(dlgproc = DIALOG_GetDlgProc( hwnd )))
if (hwnd == GetActiveWindow())
WINPOS_ActivateOtherWindow( hwnd );
}
I.e. only call WINPOS_ActivateOtherWindow if the hwnd has no dialog proc, i.e.
it is not a real dialog window.
I'd love to know what app and symptom the failing test, and this code are
addressing. I have be trawling through the CVS logs, this line of code was
added in 2004 by juilliard to wine/windows/dialog.c cvs r1.130, and the test in
msg.c was added at the same time, with no comment about why.
I still maintain that the usage of EndDialog in tests/msg.c is unusual, and
doesn't actually test the 99.9% usage case where it is called from within the
dialog's dlgProc.

Additionally, the Xi2 patch causes the X11 pointer to always be visible in
Anarchy Online (it should be hidden). It seems reasonable to assume that this
affects other games too.

I've tested the Xi2 patch with Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 2 demo [1] and AvP 2
MP demo [2], using Xorg 1.8.1.902.
ME2 demo:
Mouse seems to work perfectly - movement and click registering.
ME1:
Mouse doesn't really work at all. It doesn't seem to register any clicks at
all when in game, but it did register *a couple* when clicking furiously in the
menu. Movement doesn't really work at all, but when in game and waving the
mouse area furiously, the camera does twitch by a pixel or two in certain
directions. These things are true in windowed mode and fullscreen, and whether
or not the pointer is within the window.
AvP 2 MP demo:
Mouse works well in the menu, but not well in game. In game left click appears
to become stuck down after using it once. When the pointer is inside the
window (including in fullscreen mode) the camera spins around wildly. In
windowed mode, with the pointer outside the window, the camera works as
expected relative to mouse movements - until you move the pointer back inside
the window, at which point it goes wild again.
I find the two Mass Effect results interesting, as they both use Unreal Engine
3.

Just to clarify, as it is maybe not obvious from the descriptions unless you
use OrCad.
Orcad has a main drawing window. When "Place Part" is activated, a dialog box
appears allowing selection of the part to be placed. Then click OK, the dialog
closes, the focus returns to the main window, with the part to be placed
attached to the cursor. Clicking the mouse then places the part into the
schematic.
Even with Comment#3 patch, if the cursor is moved outside the Orcad window, and
back in, the windows repaints and the part is no longer attached to the cursor.
So as #3 suggests, the problem is something to do with loss of focus of the
main window.

Reverting this patch on top of wine-1.2-rc3-57-gb3f0425 makes the issue go

This is probably just a duplicate of bug 23015 but I'm using Gnome (2.30) with

What distro/version? If you're not on ubuntu 10.04, your X server is probably
too old to support XInput2, which his patch requires.

Searching the web for a way to remove just SecuROM, I came across this page:
http://reclaimyourgame.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=68&…
I didn't run any of their programs, I just deleted stuff. Mostly from
registry.
Like I said before, success was brief. After that procedure, I realized how
invasive the software is - using tactics you'd expect from malware.
Obviously, this is not a solution. More of an academic exercise.

Hard Truck Apocalypse and Hard Truck Apocalypse: Rise Of Clans are not improved
even when using Vitaliy's patch (none of the other mouse patches has helped
either). It's impossible to rotate the cannons freely, which makes the games
more or less unplayable. What's the difference between the games that works and
the ones that doesn't work?

Crash Log for Orgegon Scientific SmartSync
SmartSync is a small utility used to download heartrate data from the Oregon
Scientific WM100 via USB
Under Wine, the splash screen is displayed then a dialogue box titled pg3147
with the text "Out of Memory" with an OK button is displayed. Clicking OK
results in the application closing.
Interestingly, under Windows XP, all attempts to snoop the USB comms have
failed with SmartSync hanging.
I have contacted Oregon Scientific asking about a Linux version of SmartSync
and if I can attach the installer (no download on their website at this time)

Ice Cream Tycoon is a business/simulation game. This bug applies to the
downloadable version at http://www.reflexive.com/IceCreamTycoon.html (click
"DOWNLOAD NOW!").
Enable virtual desktop mode using winecfg, e.g. 1024x768 (assuming your X
desktop is significantly larger). Download and run the installer, then run
ICT.exe. Note that the initial window position is centred relative to the
larger X desktop, and so appears partly off-screen in the smaller Wine virtual
desktop window.

Summary: Moon Tycoon gets stuck in loop saying No Direct3D /

Moon Tycoon is a 3D simulation/strategy game set on the moon. Info at
http://www.anarchyent.com/moontycoon/index.asp
This bug is for the original CD-ROM full game.
A demo can be downloaded from http://www.anarchyent.com/moontycoon/demo.asp
However, the demo doesn't work for me (maybe mshtml-related issues from looking
at the console output), so it probably isn't very helpful for this bug.
I used winecfg to set the Windows version to Windows 98 since the game
installer mentions using Compatibility Mode if running in XP.
On running MT.exe, it opens a desktop-sized window (black background) and shows
a dialog box:
No Direct3D
Switching to software rasterizer.
Clicking OK causes the dialog box to reappear, seemingly in an infinite loop.
However if you click several times quickly the dialog box disappears. Press
Ctrl-C in the shell window to exit the program.
Console output is

The most important part is to get a clear understanding of why the bug happens
first. I.e., the patch removes the palette from any surfaces it is attached to
when it's destroyed, but that situation isn't supposed to happen. What you want
to know is why it's being destroyed while still being attached to a surface.

Attached fix is not complete at all. It ignores all parameters except target

The quirk used to prevent the use of OpenGL 2.0's NPOT texture functionality on

Adding a check for CARD_NVIDIA_GEFORCEFX_5200 to

For reference, my specific card is the FX 5500 with driver version 169.12.

Summary: PlayOnline viewer corrupts terminal console
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.42
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wylda(a)volny.cz
PlayOnline viewer corrupts terminal console - console is flooded by binary
chars. This was already mentioned in bug 22197, but unfortunately patch
attached there does not fix that. The reason is, that does not happen always.
Following steps have highest probability (for me) to reproduce that issue:
1. configure wine to run in windowed mode
2. "wine pol.exe" and _immediatelly_ switch back to console, so wine's window
lose focus
3. wait till music begins to play (music is also accompanied by console line
"err:d3d:context_apply_draw_buffer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION
(0x502) from glDrawBuffers() @ context.c / 1890" --probably unrelated to the
problem)
4. when you see above err:d3d press Ctrl+C
If there is no binary mess, than repeat.
Sometimes you get 1,5Mbytes of mess into a console and sometimes nothing (it
could still be corrupted but luckily does not display a byte).

this problem happen when i use Metatrader 4:
when i start this program, wine try to load it but nothing open. Glancing at

minutes later, the program opened but still not activated (frozen, can't open
menu or else), then 2 or 3 minutes later, the program is ready and activated.
Later, if i use an other workplace then came back to whatch wine program, i see
nothing because all the windows have diseappeared. If i check system-monitor:
activity is quiet and there is no problem of memory. Closing this app

causes Pumuckl / Klabauterjagd to crash at program start in winevdm, during the

The patch is not that bad either, as it makes sound work again in
Klabauterjagd. Sound was lost somewhere between 1.1.30 IIRC and 1.1.33.
The app worked fine with older releases such as wine-1.1.18 (or 1.1.30 IIRC).
Should I run another round of git-bisect to determine the ancestor commit that
caused loss of sound?

FlatOut 2 has some UI glitches on race. The UI elements (map, infos, speed

of the usual solid colored images. It swaps all the time in-game between the
correctly rendered ones, transpared ones and some times there is no elements at
all.
This didn't happen on Wine 1.1.25, but it does occur on 1.1.29. I haven't
tested any versions between them or the new 1.1.30. I'd call this bug a
regression.

Test program to show differences between drawing 1 bpp icons in DrawIcon() and
DrawIconEx()
The function DrawIconEx() doesn't handle Icons with 1 bpp correctly.
I've attached a test program that will draw many different icons in a line with
DrawIcon() and the same line of icons below with DrawIconEx() and
DI_DEFAULTSIZE, DI_NORMAL, DI_COMPAT flags set - which should normally result
in the exact same output.
The drawn icons are (fltr):
1 bpp 2x2 "chessboard" field
32 bpp white, black, red, green, blue icons without alpha channel
32 bpp white, black, red, green, blue icons with increasing values of alpha
This works fine in WindowsXP with 32-bit color depth (I'll attach a screenshot
later).
In Wine the 1 bpp icon is distorted/squeezed, the 32-bit icons are however
drawn correct.
I'll search where the handling of 1 bpp icons differs in those two functions
and fix DrawIconEx() accordingly.
When this is fixed, the DrawIcon-Function could just call DrawIconEx with
DI_DEFAULTSIZE, DI_NORMAL, DI_COMPAT flags (as suggested in
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms648065(VS.85).aspx and done by the
test application) and therefore a lot of complicated, duplicated code could be
removed from "dlls/user32/cursoricon.c".

Quicken 2007 is accepted by wine and shows in my "C Drive" on Ubuntu 9.04.
Quicken does start and has accepted my files which I copied directly from a USB
stick. (I believe this circumvented the problem I stated in Bug 16001 so that
Bug may still be valid.
Now when I attempt to "Open" the files Quicken crashes (program just closes
with no error message.)
When I restart Quicken I repeat the "Open" process and Quicken again crashes in
the exact same way.
Additional possibly related information;
When I start Quicken I continually receive a screen giving me the choice to be
a new user or be a current user of Quicken. The same problem exists if I chose
"current user." If I chose "New User" the program crashes in the same way
without giving me a chance to load a file.

Test showing similar behaviour
Observation:
Trying to run the launcher for The Witcher (1.4) an entry appear in the taskbar
but no window appear. This is using built-in gdiplus.
Using native gdiplus the window appear.
Investigation:
Reading trace logs it becomes evident that when using wine's gdiplus the
launcher calls CreateRectRgn(0, 0, 0, 0) and then nothing more of that kind.
Ending up with a zero size window. While when using the native gdiplus there's
quite a number of CreateRectRgn and CombineRgn following.
This happens after calls to GdipBitmapLockBits and GdipBitmapUnlockBits and the
window shown when using the native gdiplus is shaped after the background
image, so I assume that the pixel data returned is used to build the shape of
the window.
Based on this assumption and the function calls seen in the traces I have build
a small test which shows the same behaviour (attached).
Looking at my test I've noticed that I get different pixel formats reported
when using native and builtin GdipCreateBitmapFromFile/GdipGetImagePixelFormat
using a RGBA png image.
Also, when requesting PixelFormat32bppARGB the pixeldata returned by
GdipBitmapLockBits have an all zero alpha channel (i.e. the whole image is
fully transparent). In my test this is the actual problem.
It is noted in a comment in the code that GdipBitmapLockBits does not fully
consider format.

According to

Songbird is Mozilla's attempt to dethrone iTunes as the dominant music player.
Tried it in Wine, installs fine (though, it detects iTunes as installed for
some reason?), and, after installing wmp9, runs fine. Trying to play a file,
however, gives errors:

ReportedBy: louis(a)qdcec.co.za
I am running Warcraft III Reign of Chaos patched to 1.21a on Fedora 7 x86_64 on
an AMD Athlon 64 with a Radeon X1300. The game runs smoothly but MOST times
when I try to save, the save dialog comes up, I enter a save name, I select
overwrite if applicable, the words Saving Game appear. Now if all goes well
the words turn green and the game continues. If it fails, the words remain
there in white, the sound continues playing, but nothing else happens. If I
overwrote a saved game, that game is no longer in my list of saved games. The
only way out is to wineboot -k -f -s and then to restart from the last
successful saved game. I notice that usually (not always) I can save a game in
the very beginning of the game, and as long as I save again soon it may work.
However, 4 out of 5 times it crashes, making the game very unplayable (if I
need to save -- which I do).

Summary: the 'wine start' launcher does not open MS Office
documents that have spaces in their path
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.26
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rockorequin(a)hotmail.com
MS Office 2007 installs without problems, but if you try to open a file (eg a
.docx file) from nautilus and the file has a space in its path, MS office says
that it cannot find the file.
The launcher for docx files is
~/.local/share/applications/wine-extension-docx.desktop:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Microsoft Office Word
MimeType=application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document
Exec=/usr/bin/wine start /ProgIDOpen Word.Document.12 %f
NoDisplay=true
StartupNotify=true
Example case:
1. Create a document and save it as /tmp/test document/test.docx.
2. Try to open the file from nautilus (wine should have set up Word 2007 to be
the default; if not, select 'Open With' and 'Microsoft Word').
3. MS Word starts up but complains it can't find /tmp/test.docx and
document/test.docx, ie it is receiving the filename as two separate arguments.
On a perhaps related note, you also cannot open the document with the command
line:
wine "c:\\Program Files\\Office12\\Microsoft Office\\WINWORD.EXE" "`winepath -w
"/tmp/test document/test.docx"`"
since Word complains with the same error message as above.
This is on Ubuntu 9.04 (amd64).

Summary: Oblivion: No sound effects or music during game play
(voices only)
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: toddroe(a)charter.net
When playing Oblivion, there are no sound effects (i.e. no sounds of battle, no
ambient sounds, no background music, no sound from magical effects). Voices are
unaffected. Music plays during the intro and start menu sequences.
This began after Wine 1.1.38 I believe, and has already been regression tested
(see bug #21609).
I've attempted to patch the source code using the workaround given in bug
#21609, but it did not change the symptoms.
Bug #21609 was closed, but I believe that the issue still exists.
Since game play is severely hampered by the absence of sounds (no auditory
clues) and the fact that the game used to work just fine in earlier versions, I
consider this a major bug.

This problem dosn't seem to be just on linux through wine.
I believe that this is a problem even for windows because I have come across
similar results on windows where the screen dosent refresh.
I believe it happend when starcraft brought itself to the front of the screen
without resizing the windows desktop through a message(example: Lag message or
baned from game message)
it was easily fixed by alt-tabing out and back into it.
possibly windows implimented their own work around or blizzard worked around it
using resources not incorporated by wine.

terminal output
First, workaround missing msvp80 and bug 23356 (winetricks -q vcrun2005 d3dx9).
Be sure to also disable steam community.
Then run it. Choose single player, napoleon's battles, then battle of ligny.
Wait a few seconds, crash.
Terminal output attached. FWIW, I originally tried this in a virtual desktop,
no change.

Unless you turn Frame Buffer Effects off in the options menu (available
before you start, or controllable via the line
EnableFrameBufferEffects=1
in ~/.wine/drive_c/users/$LOGNAME/My Documents/BioWare/Dragon
Age/Settings/DragonAge.ini ), some dialog scenes are out of focus.
To see this, click New Game, esc to bypass long movie,
then click the rightmost icon in each row (Female / Dwarf / Rogue / Noble )
Next, Quick Play, OK (and maybe one more ok). Another
and sadly unskippable movie plays. After a minute,
you are asked a question, and have to select an answer
with the mouse. Half of the series of short scenes that start
here are very fuzzy and unfocussed unless you turn framebuffer effects
off.
The game was installed with 'wisotool dragonage', which does
winetricks physx vcrun2005 strictdrawordering=enabled .

I´m using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, and there I got two Programs folders, one contains
all my games, the other only Acessory>notepad. In my oppinion it would be
better for the eyes to have only one "programs" folder with both acessories
folder and games folders. What do you think?

world of warcraft 3.3.5 login error
After the update to World of Warcraft to 3.3.5 I keep getting an error whenever
I attempt to login with both opengl and d3d. Wow loads perfectly fine without
error with both d3d and opengl on a clean .wine folder.
I can type in my information but when I attempt to login it gives me a "There
was an error logging in. Please try again later."
My output shows that it is attempting to load WLDAP32.dll which I've copied
over into my .wine/Windows/system32 and World of Warcraft folders, but to no
avail.
Attached is my error output from the console.

First problem is in XPath evaluation or maybe expected MS-only called
XSLPattern. A position predicate starts with invalid index like:
---
001d:trace:msxml:xmlnode_selectSingleNode (0x174698)->(L"Tips/Tip[0]"
0x1fac820)
001d:trace:msxml:xmlnode_selectNodes (0x174698)->(L"Tips/Tip[0]" 0x1fac7d0)
001d:trace:msxml:queryresult_create (0x7c102fc0, L"Tips/Tip[0]", 0x1fac7d0)
001d:trace:msxml:xmldoc_add_ref (0x7c102fc0)->(3)
001d:trace:msxml:queryresult_create found 0 matches
---
<Tips> does indeed contain a list of <Tip> nodes (about 30 of them), but in
terms of XPath a starting index for first node is 1
(http://www.w3.org/TR/xpath/#predicates).
This needs some tests, for XPath vs XSLPattern switch. Anyway we need pre-parse
query string before passing it to libxml2 it seems.
Next problem is similar to bug 20223 - additional node expected for "<?xml"
declaration, attached patch doesn't work though (I need to study libxml2 code
more to hack it properly).

Summary: EVE Online Dominion 1.1 audio loops/client hangs
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.36
Platform: x86
URL: http://www.eveonline.com/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: webmaster(a)thw-theorie.de
Since EVE Online Dominion 1.1 (Version: 6.21.126344), running with wine-1.1.36,
audio starts to loop during character load, and after a few seconds, it hangs
completely. Turning audio off (in the client's options) fixes the problem.
Enabling audio after loading the character results in an immediate crash.
Steps to reproduce:
- If you don't have an EVE Online subscription, get a free 14-day trial account
and download the client at eveonline.com
- Make sure you have ANY wine sound API selected and working
- Run EVE, log in, and load a character. To recognize the begin of the sound
loop, enable ingame music.
- While the loading bar is shown, audio output begins to loop
- After a few seconds, the client hangs. CPU output remains at a high level.
Alternatively:
- Disable audio completely at the login screen
- Log in and load a character
- Play a while if you like, EVE will run stable
- Open the options screen, and re-enable audio
- The client hangs immediately
Remarks:
It makes no difference which audio driver wine uses. The bug occurs for all
APIs (OSS, ALSA, Pulseaudio).
It makes no difference whether EVE Voice is enabled or not.
CCP told me in reply to a petition, that they "changed the audio subsystem to
fix some bugs". According to the patch notes, these changes apply to EVE Voice.
I didn't test older wine versions. According to posts in the EVE forums, those
are also affected, at least down to 1.1.33:
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1254681
When using a native dsound.dll/dsound3d.dll from DX 9c, audio additionally
crackles, but the loop/hang still occurs.
