This should be greatly improved.
Editing including selecting and such is not rational yet. But simply loading

After upgrading to wine1.2-rc1 on Xubuntu 10.04 I don't have any font smoothing
in neither old wine prefixes, nor in newly created ones. And registry values
also do not affect font smoothing. So, I cannot enable font smoothing at all.
Font smoothing can be easily checked in winecfg, Graphics tab. Just play with
Screen Resolution slider to make text bigger, so that you can see if it is
smoothed or not.

same error message. That makes me think it's a video driver or OpenGL issue,
not an issue with Wine.

Component: -unknown

Affects: Foobar2000 1.0.3
This appears to be a regression as this behaviour did NOT occur with Wine
1.1.44.
In the file properties box (used to edit tags, opened via right-clicking on the
playlist), the edit box which opens when you click on a field to edit its
content is displayed in the wrong place, namely always in the first row of the
dialog box (independent of which row one is actually editing). There is no
problem with the result of the editing itself, ie the result is written to the
right tag. Also the correct row is shaded when one clicks on it - it is only
the editing itself which is displaced.

It is, but doesn't have much to do with critical sections. The NFS games screw
around with the FPU control word, unmasking some exceptions. That patch masks
them again in a convenient place, but it's unlikely to be the correct place.
(And this really doesn't have a whole lot to do with this bug.)

I have modified SetDisplayMode in ddraw.c to reject the wanted BPP and always
use 16bpp. Screenshots showing this have been attached. I have only tested this
in Emulate a Virtual Desktop mode.
One more thing to add, when playing with the Blt and Unlock methods (from
surface.c in wined3d.dll) - adding wglFlush to them, I was able to even get a
cursor for a while, though, the cursor's movement was restrained and it always
reverted to the center of the screen. I can not reproduce this yet...

> Anytime I hit ESC key to go back to menu from in-game (e.g. training mission)
> or after a mission completes, the game crashes.
The crashes only occur when all these conditions are met:
(a) [xorg.conf] the X11 display mode depth != 16
(b) [registry] OffscreenRenderingMode == fbo
(c) [game's cam.cfg] game_hardware 1
(d) [game's cam.cfg] game_screen_size W H (!= 640 480)
In other words, if you have (a)+(b)+(c), then, to avoid the ESC/menu crashes,
the in-game resolution must match the hard-coded menu resolution (640x480).

Quick-and-dirty fix for wine 1.2-rc1.
Don't know why but some patches in gdi/winex11 code make some SetDIBits() calls
with "numlines" parameter negative.... No time to look if it's a correct
behaviour or not, but the fix works changing sign of it if negative.

key OffscreenRenderingMode to backbuffer. This fixed the crashes when accessing
the menus.

Well, I didn't look for which patch of yours makes current wine crash, but
which change in wine patches made your patches stop working. I'm sorry if it
was more useful if I had done the opposite.

I installed git and followed steps for regression testing here:
http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting
But building 32-bit Wine on 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 is difficult.
Wine current git:
$ CC="ccache gcc -m32" ./configure --verbose
(snipped)
checking for -lfreetype... not found
configure: error: FreeType 32-bit development files not found. Fonts will not
be built.
Use the --without-freetype option if you really want this.
Is the freetype error something I can ignore?
If not, how can I fix it?

Thanks, this worked for me, except that I had to patch wine-1.1.43 and I don't
think you can apply that patch against wine-1.1.25 (the patched file doesn't
even contain the patched function). Other than that, NFSU2 works fine with the
patch and native dinput8 :)

I am seeing this bug with Freedom Force 1.3 installed from the CD and patched
(i.e. Not through Steam).
I saw this with wine versions 1.1.3(0?) and 1.2
I ran in full screen mode and I also tried with windowed mode (1024x768)
I'm running Ubuntu Karmic with Compiz running and cairo-dock (software
renderer) on a Dell Latitude D630 with the lousy wireless card and the lousy
video card, so it may not be a friendly environment.
I'm happy to try to help debug this - I have copies of Windows available on CD
and am an experienced software developer. I don't know the wine code, but I
can compile and test if needed. Let me know if I can do anything.

basic context shaping is in place now. (1.2-rc1)
I have patches submitted to do mandatory ligatures via the fonts GSUB tables.
Need to implement fallbacks for fonts that do not have 'rlig' features, maybe
using the 'liga' feature or even falling back to tables to get the 'lam alef'
ligatures correct.
Then basic required arabic shaping will be implemented.

It's impossible to play Dungeon Keeper 2 on current Wine. Without the
MouseWarpOverride fix the mouse jumps back to the center of the screen whenever
you move it. With the fix, mouse can be controlled, but I have two cursors in
the game; the normal dungeon keeper cursor and the X11/Gnome cursor.
The problem is that it seems the game thinks that the X11 cursor is the actual
cursor when considering movement - but not when cosidering clicking etc.
Because the X11 cursor is displayed an inch or two from the *real* dungeon
keeper 2 cursor, I can't click any buttons that are in the corner of the screen
because I cant move the *real* cursor onto the buttons.
I can only move the X11 cursor to the end of the screen, but this effectively
stops the DK2 cursor from moving anymore as well, however because the X11
cursor is rendered offset from the X11 cursor and the clicking is effective at
the DK2 cursor position I cant click... so it seems DK2 thinks the *real*
cursor hit the screen edge, but it didn't!
Attached are two images; one showing the buttons i can click (those NOT in the
screen corner) and another showing those I cant.

Summary: crypt32 doesn't support wildcard certificates with

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: crypt32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: NightNord(a)gmail.com
Reproducing:
1) try to install Google Earth browser plug-in (see bug's URL).
2) get connectivity error
3) Look at logs for 'err:winhttp:netconn_secure_connect couldn't verify server
certificate (12038)'
12038 means "invalid CN"
It tries to connect to "https://tools.google.com/service/update2", which is
using wildcard (*.google.com) certificate.
Further tracing shows that it fails into function
'match_dns_to_subject_alt_name'
trace:chain:match_dns_to_subject_alt_name dNSName: L"*.google.com"
trace:chain:match_dns_to_subject_alt_name dNSName: L"google.com"
While ChangeLog for 33 says, that crypt32 supports wildcards, it seems, that
only match_dns_to_subject_dn support them, while match_dns_to_subject_alt_name
uses dumb case-insensitive comparison with 'strcmpiW' function.
Full +winhttp,+crypt,+chain log comes as attachment
P.S. Commenting check will not make it work, but now with 'bad request' answer
from google server. That seems to be another bug.

Summary: Modern Warfare 2: Fog and smoke rendered incorrectly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.44
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: knaprigt(a)gmail.com
Fog and smoke seems to be rendered incorrectly in Modern Warfare 2 when using
Wine 1.1.38 - 1.1.44. While fog used to be rendered correctly with Wine 1.1.37
something happened after that version, in other words, this is a regression
(yes, I've downgraded and tested with multiple versions).
To test this bug, start Modern Warfare 2 - Single player with Steam, select
"Special Ops" from the main menu, then "Solo play", "Alpha" and "The Pit" (this
is the first level which should be available to everyone). When the actual game
starts one can notice a significant difference in the rendering of fog. While
smooth in Wine 1.1.37, it flickers a lot and sometimes seem to "get stuck" in
later versions. The same goes for smoke if the player shoots into the ground,
etc.
Also, this bug should not be confused with bug "16641" (Call of Duty 4 - Depth
of field and soften smoke edges broken), since the rendering issues in this bug
looks just the same with soften edges turned off (or on for that matter).
I'm not sure what component is causing this, but a good place to start might be
any Direct3D changes done between Wine version 1.1.37 and 1.1.38. I'll try to
find out exactly what's the problem when I get some free time but, in the mean
time feel free to help out! =)

Hi,
With an eeepc 1005, we have no graphic card. The graphic chipset is integrate
with N450 processor.
It is named GMA 3150.
When I try to load DAOC with it, I have the message "No card selector available
for GL vendor 3 and card vendor 8086".
I have search in code and found that it come from the fact that in
dlls/wined3d/directx.c, we have a table :
static const struct vendor_card_selection vendor_card_select_table[] =
{
{GL_VENDOR_NVIDIA, HW_VENDOR_NVIDIA, "Nvidia binary driver",
select_card_nvidia_binary},
{GL_VENDOR_APPLE, HW_VENDOR_NVIDIA, "Apple OSX NVidia binary driver",
select_card_nvidia_binary},
{GL_VENDOR_APPLE, HW_VENDOR_ATI, "Apple OSX AMD/ATI binary driver",
select_card_ati_binary},
{GL_VENDOR_APPLE, HW_VENDOR_INTEL, "Apple OSX Intel binary driver",
select_card_intel_binary},
{GL_VENDOR_FGLRX, HW_VENDOR_ATI, "AMD/ATI binary driver",
select_card_ati_binary},
{GL_VENDOR_MESA, HW_VENDOR_ATI, "Mesa AMD/ATI driver",
select_card_ati_mesa},
{GL_VENDOR_MESA, HW_VENDOR_NVIDIA, "Mesa Nouveau driver",
select_card_nvidia_mesa},
{GL_VENDOR_MESA, HW_VENDOR_INTEL, "Mesa Intel driver",
select_card_intel_mesa}
};
I found the enum in dlls/wined3d/wined3d_private.h:
GL vendor 3 mean GL_VENDOR_INTEL
card vendor 8086 mean HW_VENDOR_INTEL
So I think, we have to add
{GL_VENDOR_INTEL, HW_VENDOR_INTEL, "Mesa Intel driver",
select_card_intel_mesa}
or made a new select_card_intel_intel...
and intel card have to been added in struct driver_version_information
driver_version_table.
So we have some work to do to add other netbook graphic card here!

We have an app written in VB6 that worked fine in v1.1.38 and now breaks in

It fails during initialisation when trying to set the colwidth property of an
msflexgrid grid common control with the error:
Runtime error 451
Property let procedure not defined and property get procedure did not return an
object.
Setting other properties of the grid e.g. width at the same point in the code
is fine.
As I say it works fine in v1.1.38 - I haven't tested the intervening versions
as I couldn't find the binaries but if someone can point me to them I'll see
exactly which version breaks it.
This is my first bug report so apologies if I haven't conformed to any posting
protocols.

Since Wine-1.1.42: in Osmos, the mouse pointer is invisible in the game menus.
Howto reproduce the bug:
Start the demo, chances are good that the pointer is already invisible. After
you start a new game press <ESC> (brings up the menu) >> mouse pointer can not
be seen. You can switch between fullscreen and windowed mode in the game which
brings back the pointer in the menu...but as soon as you return to the game and
press <ESC> again, the mouse pointer is invisible again. Tried with both Wine's
fullscreen and virtual desktop mode.
Bisecting between 1.1.41 and 1.1.42 resulted the following:

can click on it.
1. The start up videos play fine
2. The game lobby: The whole screen flickers and you are able to distinguish

background video.
3. In game: The UI flickers, build icons are invisible or flicker into
existence for a very short time - to short to recognize them.
The flickering seems to be timing related, because it stops if I add debug
channels (like +d3d). For a log of Supreme Commander Forged Alliance with
flickering see Bug 21707.

last copied file. Pressing Ctrl-C in terminal continues with "Installation
aborted. All installed components were removed via the rollback feature."
However, the application files are installed and runs OK.

I use EasyPlot version 4.0.4 a scientific graphing software.
If you need it I can send you a copy.
Till the version 0.9.33 of WINE I can use it in Ubuntu Linux (Feisty 7.04
distro), after that version I always had to reinstall the old version of WINE
in order to use EasyPlot. Using a newer version of WINE the result was a great
use of CPU power (with increasing temperature) but nothing happened.
Now I upgrade my OS to Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex-8.10 and now it's impossible to
reinstall the old 0.9.33 version of WINE because of a conflict between
libldap2_2.1.30-13.3_i386 (required by 0.9.33) and the new libldap-2.4-2 that
is present in Ubuntu.
Obviously also the new 1.0.1 version of WINE doesn't work...
In the Internet you can find (here: http://www.amion.com/ep/eplot.html) the
demo version 4.0.5 of EasyPlot. With this version you can install it by WINE
but when you try to use it, it seems to start but it start (like 4.0.4 version)
to use CPU doing nothing.

I was hunting around for small windows programs to display bitmaps via GDI so
that I could test the bitmap display code in Wine (to follow an afterthought I
had relating to bug 14868). Since I wasn't able to find anything, I decided to
write my own (attached), then run it through Jason Summers' bitmap test suite
(http://entropymine.com/jason/bmpsuite/reference/reference.html). One of these
bitmaps failed the test (g08offs.bmp), appearing different to the reference
image. According to the reference page, the "... bfOffBits in [the] header not
set to the usual value. There are 100 extra unused bytes between palette and
bits."
The program has been compiled with mingw32 (Version 4.2.1.dfsg-1) on a Debian
system (see Makefile for full parameters etc.).
Running Wine off a git branch pulled ~1.5 days ago, with patch from bug 14868.

CoInitialize(NULL);// NOT NEEDED IN WINDOWS

OleLoadPicturePath(wpath, NULL, NULL, NULL, IID_IPicture,(LPVOID*)&pPic);
...
In case where the file does exist, OleLoadPicturePath isn't initialising pPic.
If the app tests for file existence first, and doesn't initialise pPic, the
result could be an access violation.
(I'm using the VMWare MultiBrowser Appliance as a way to run Linux on my Vista
machine.)
Source code for app attached, obviously replace the example pictures with
existing files on your machine.
Hope this helps. The reason my app calls OleLoadPicturePath(..) instead of
LoadImage(..) is because it is an easy way to add the capability to load jpegs
and gifs without need to add extra image libraries (which would add to the size
of the installer).
Not that important for my program, just means the users would have to convert
the skin images to bitmaps in order to use them. But maybe it might affect
other programs too, and could cause an access violation if the programmer
doesn't initilise the pPic.
Hope this helps, any questions?

ReportedBy: anisimkov(a)ada-ru.org
I have an Win32 application written in Borland Delphi using Eureka tool
(http://www.eurekalog.com/)
working in Wine but with one error.
If exception occured in main thread,
WinAPI 'select' call in secondary thread interrupted with WSAINTR error code.
The short Delphi example is in the attached sample.tar.bz2.
WSAINTR result in Win32 select mean
"A blocking Windows Socket 1.1 call was canceled through
WSACancelBlockingCall."
But
"The WSACancelBlockingCall function has been removed in compliance with the
Windows Sockets 2 specification, revision 2.2.0.
The function is not exported directly by WS2_32.DLL and Windows Sockets 2
applications should not use this function.
Windows Sockets 1.1 applications that call this function are still supported
through the WINSOCK.DLL and WSOCK32.DLL."
Wine translates EINTR error code into WSAINTR error code.
But in Linux EINTR have a different meaning
"EINTR A signal occurred before any requested event."
(man poll)
I propose the following patch to ignore the EINTR error code in Wine
'WS_select' based on Linux poll call:

Wine's output during the installation
During the installation of Dungeon Siege, the text in info boxes is not drawn
correctly, i.e. they boxes are plain blank.
This makes it impossible to install the game.
I believe that at one point of the installation the routine tries to ask me to
put the second CD into the CD slot but it is not possible because the O/S says
it is used by another process.

Concerning the attachment. The first line about ALSA not found has to do with

Hi there, I am pretty new to this, so don't bash me if i did something wrong. I
looked in the bugs, and there were some regarding Guild Wars running not at
all, but my problem is something different:
Guild Wars starts pretty normally, then after connected to arena net, the main
game window appears in a few seconds-minutes. Then it becomes real carnage,
slideshow, i mean, horrible mess, like 1 frame per 5 seconds.
SW Wine configuration:
tried alternatives for Win98,W2K,WXP settings for GW.exe; tried -dx8, -opengl
(doesnt work at all), -dx9 swithes, tried -noshaders, nosound, dsound, nothing
helped.
Distro: Elive Gem 1.0. - basically Debian Etch
HW:
AMD64 3000+ on ondemand k8 powernow module
512 MB ram
ati Radeon 9550 128MB graphics card
(these should not be the limits, since game runs smooth on windows)
I will post any log or anything, just tell me what to do. Thanks.

Ok, some preliminary tests.
I've compiled wine with DIB engine and your patch against latest git wine (last
commit is 0d84ccbfa1d542e333a2f706414420d05af07587).
With "WINEDIB=ON", wine iexplore does not launch. It appears a Wine "Program
Error" window saying "The program wineboot.exe has encountered a serious
problem and needs to close. [...]"
Clicking close, a similar window appears, but with "explorer.exe" instead of
wineboot.exe. After clicking close again, the window of iexplore does not
appear.
Same thing seems to happen with notepad and regedit, except that with regedit
the register editor is actually launched.
With "WINEDIB=OFF", everything works, off course. I didn't test it with DIB
engine but without your patch yet.

Ok, there we go. I needed midlc.exe, cl.exe, c1.dll, and mspdb60.dll too.
The output has improved over the output from 2007 - a missing custom() line got
added to the first set of []. There's still an extra interface IUnknown though.
And notes to self:
1. The original report should have read: "and got the wrong output with
_builtin_ oleaut32."
2. This whole exercise is to get Picasa 2.x to compile on MSVC6 on Wine.

Ellipses that touch the edges of the window are stretched to fit on screen
instead of being properly cut off. Ellipses that are not filled do not show up
at all. Iji now errors out when playing Hero 3D and during the final bossfight.
I suppose this is due to DIBDRV_Ellipse drawing outside of the allowed range.
Using my added debug messages in the screenshot you can see it attempts to draw
a few pixels at y=600. The window size is 800x600, thus the allowed y-values
should range from 0 to 599 I think.

Also: 25% of your patch file is unrelated whitespace madness.
Also: You're not supposed to patch configure. autoconf does that for you.
Unrelated to your patch:
Something between 1.1.44 and current git has completely broken the engine for
me. If winedib is enabled it crashes immediately.

Just ran it on AMD hardware (Catalyst 10.4), the bug is fixed as of Wine
1.1.44. I'll need to test it on Nvidia hardware to be sure.
Now it only screws up geometry - I'll open a new bug for that.

Summary: Hardcoded "C:\windows\system32" paths autorun paths
fail in a syswow64 build
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.44
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: stefandoesinger(a)gmx.at
The DirectX 7 SDK puts a file "dxdllreg.exe" into C:\windows\system32 and
creates a registry key to run it on the next boot. On a pure 32 bit Wine this
works OK, in a syswow64 build wineboot complains that the file cannot be found.
It seems that the following happens:
1) The installer places the file in system32\dxdllreg.exe. Since it is a 32 bit
app this is redirected to syswow64/dxdllreg.exe
2) The installer writes "C:\windows\system32\dxdllreg.exe" into the registry
3) Wineboot runs, reads the string from the registry. However, wineboot is a 64
bit app, so it tries to find the file in system32\dxdllreg.exe
Running the 32 bit wineboot manually correctly executes the application.

dosmem use MAP_FIXED; new WINE_NO_DOSMEM_64KB environment variable
Dosmem forgot MAP_FIXED when calling wine_anon_mmap() to allocate memory at
assumed fixed addresses for the low 1 MiB and 64 KiB. It is a bug to assume
that the result address equals the requested address, unless MAP_FIXED. Also,
add a new environment variable WINE_NO_DOSMEM_64KB to inhibit the low 64 KiB,
even if the opreating system would allow it. By default, Linux 2.6.24
prohibits mmap in the range [0, 0x10000). Patch is attached and will be sent

Certain menu options disappear when navigating the menus. Specifically, the
single player "Historical Battles" and "Provincial Campaign" options disappear.
When this happens, it causes another strange behavior. Selecting "Prologue" or
"Imperial Campaign" does not work. Instead, the message "Please select an item
from the list" pops up. After this, I cannot start any single player campaign
until I quit the game and restart it.
To further confuse things, sometimes this message comes up without the
aforementioned menu options disappearing.
To reproduce, select "Single Player", then select either "Imperial Campaign" or
"Historical Battle", then click the icon to return to the previous screen.
Repeat selecting "Imperial Campaign" or "Historical Battle" and returning to
the previous screen until finally the historical and provincial options
disappear.
I've also noticed that if I reproduce this bug by repeatedly selecting the
historical battle option, the final time I enter that screen before the option
disappears, the list of historical battles is empty.

Hi,
i have an issue like the old bug (1689). A special application has tabs to
navigate between screens (like the tabs on certain Excel or OpenCalc).
If I start the application all work fine on the first mask, but if I click on
the second or third tab only the field where the cursor is blinking are
refreshed. The rest of the screen shows the the first mask.
If I minimize and restore the application the complete screen is correct.
I test the application with all wine versions from 0.9.44 through 0.9.56 and
some older versions, but I have no luck.
I test also with native comctl32 and comdlg32 also with no luck-
I think that is a problem with the winex11.drv system.
I hope anybody can solve this problem

months. Is this still an issue in current (1.1.44 or newer) wine?

test patch
Hi,
I have try to add some missing features to dib but I am not as skilled as max
and it is a very long time that I have not code in C.
If someone can test my patch and give me feedback.
The patch contain:
Ellipse
GetDirection
SetDirection
SetDCPen/Brush
round rectangle, arc, pie, chore is coded but arc have a big todo in it.
and I use it in other part. So this function is alpha supported.
I have try to use the optimised algo of ellipse drawing to have good
performance.
Else I can do a working algo but not optimised quickly.
I really try to just bring my little stone to dib patch if it is too buggy just
throw it to rubbish or give me feedback and I will try to fix it.
thanks,
Olivier

Current status is "not very well documented nor well understood by me". I was
intentionally waiting, however, as winelib has been going through some changes
and this way I could minimize the amount of rewriting. I'll start trying to
piece together an overview and poking Francois when I get stuck.

RegisterWaitForSingleObject() fix special tmo == 0 case.
At http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa332406%28VS.71%29.aspx one
can read:
"If the timeOutInterval parameter is not zero (0) and the executeOnlyOnce
parameter is false, the timer is reset every time the event is signaled
or the time-out interval elapses."
timeOutInterval == 0 makes the above false and the timer should NOT
be reset, the attached patch fixes that.

Pre-packaged .lnk files that get just copied into place would bypass shell32's
IShellLink's IPersistFile_Save, and winemenubuilder won't get invoked to build
.desktop files. Such files also imply that you can't choose where to install
the application, since that affects the .lnk contents?
We shouldn't store the Wine prefix in the .lnk file, it could go into some
other settings database (maybe not the registry, since that's local to each
Wine prefix), from where the tool that starts .lnk can look up which Wine to
use.
At least we can patch Gnome and write a thumbnailer - it must be real fun and
games to fix this on MacOS :-).

Those are broken on Windows too, although differently. I recall that
Windows has a dialog to search or browse a missing shortcut target.
We could do something along those lines if we don't find the prefix.

Perhaps we can store the Wine prefix in the .lnk file somewhere. Then we'd
write
a Unix tool that extracts the prefix and runs 'wine start <shortcut>.lnk' in
it.
We'd register the tool with the native desktop as the handler for
application/x-win-lnk and stop writing separate .desktop files when writing
to the desktop folder.
That leaves the thumbnail issue. Presumably thumbnails are cached to mitigate
the performance issue? Alternatively we could have our own thumbnailer cache
the generated icons.
Another issue with this approach is that Gnome hides the .desktop extension
but not the .lnk extension, like Windows does.
