This does still seem like something that should be looked at for 1.2,
as it affects a popular CAD package and has a simple hack.

This bug is still present in Wine 1.1.44 and affects even OrCAD 16 in the same
way, and the same workaround as mentioned in Comment #3 works.
I personally think should be fixed! It's been almost 5 years and people have to
edit dialog.c everytime they want to upgrade Wine. That's not how it should be,
is it?

I am running both 7.0.4 and 8.0.2 FP5, and I had to copy in both oleacc.dll and
oleaccrc.dll to their respective Notes program directories to get the

Both of these versions work, and can even run at the same time by launching via

It's fine the bug isn't related to concrete windows app, rather common MDI
problem -it's more determined.
Currently I have not opportunity to create a box with old evironment (libc,

problematic commit takes place between 20041019 and 20041201 releases. I can

wined3d: Disable strict draw ordering by default.
While some performance hit from the extra flushes was expected and would be
acceptable, the performance hit can be over 50% on some configurations,
which
clearly isn't acceptable. This patch introduces a "StrictDrawOrdering"
registry key for applications affected by this, until we have a more
structural solution.

You can't trust that database, because different languages of the same game can
have different versions of that protection, patches changes the version
(improve) in a lot of cases... You should always figure that on your own - from
your installed game.
Also these days older games are pretty cheap and "bundled to magazines or
chips" ;) For example you can find editions like "Golden classic" sold legally
with cracked exe!
Not counting human mistakes, when filling such database.

Problem relevant to specific SecuROM versions??
I have:
[Game] [SecuROM version]
Homeworld 2 1.0 - 4.84... Works
Homeworld 2 1.1 - 5.00... detects "CD Emulation"
Star Wars: KotOR2 - 5.03... Works
F.E.A.R. - 7.11... Works
Bioshock 1.0 - 7.34... Works
(version numbers from DaemonTools website, See Comment #1)
Results noticed from Wine 1.1.29-1.1.42
Did not require online activation (except maybe Bioshock during "update")
With version 5.00 I was able to change OS mode to WinNT to get it to run for a
short while, then it seemed to 'adapt' and wouldn't run again. I got lucky the
next day after deleting some keys, but it didn't last long before it 'adapted'
again.

Still present with current wine-1.1.44-72-g658209b.
It's not a drawing problem, a possible issue with custom window colour is fixed
by commit dcddea361f3cd2717c92757adddb87badc55d3ff (isn't directly related to
this bug, just for record).
A real problem is that application (most likely VFP runtime itself) does
something like this:

And this is constantly repeated - Sleep() -> GetQueueStatus() -> SetCaretPos().
In SetCaretPos() we're doing SetSystemTimer again and again which starts it
every time and timer callback is never reached. Consecutive SetCaretPos() calls
happen really fast - always <=50ms (normally 10ms) on mine vbox.
Removing SetSystemTimer() from SetCaretPos() fixes this, and lets a caret blink
normally. I'll test it more.

See bug 22597 and bug 22598. I've created them to be more precise with the
problems of these games. They crash in two situations: when you set resolution
higher than 640x480 (22597) and when you enable audio in Wine settings (22598).
Please see this attachment i've uploaded:
http://bugs2.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=27767
It's my backtrace from PES 6 demo. It's almost identical to yours, except for
the "GetParent" thing.
Make sure you don't have any addons (winetricks, Play On Linux, etc.), also you
must have a clean installation of Wine without native dlls or DirectX
installed. Also specify wich hardware are you using.
I still believe this bug should be closed and we should focus on the new bug
reports.

I see this with 'wine progman' (Wine built-in application). If you wish this

Heh.. Ok, I'll try to describe the issue again :-)
Say, we have internal window inside main window, and the first one doesn't
touch any edge of the second. Now, let's try to resize intenal window this way:
take with mouse, say, right bottom corner and drag it towards right bottom
corner of the main window. At the moment when you drop "resize mouse pointer" -
and last one touches any edge or right-bottom corner of main window, scroll
bar(s) suddenly appears. Expected (and old, very old :-)) behavior: after
dropping resize pointer, intenal window is resized to be *adjoining* internal
window edges. *Without* any scrollbars.

Summary: [NOT A BUG] Wine doesn't need 1.2 release
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P1
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: t.artem(a)mailcity.com
Hello, everyone!
Recently Alexander Julliard announced plans concerning stable Wine 1.2 release.
Let me voice my opinion here and some thoughts concerning Wine development and
future.
The whole point of releasing Wine 1.0 was to attract developers and say to the
world, “We are stable” you can join us; you can even port Windows applications
to Linux using Wine-lib. AFAIK, not too many developers joined afterwards,
AFAIK few to zero Windows applications have been ported to Linux using Wine
1.0(.1) codebase. So, we shook the world by releasing the first stable open
source Win32 API and it was good for Wine's publicity and popularity. However
no such point exists at present, Wine is well known and there is no need to
announce the next stable release.
Another point of releasing Wine 1.0 was to *maintain* a stable Wine. Time has
shown no one wants to maintain stable Wine releases (do not tell me the single
update counts as an example of maintaining a project).
So, it seems to me two most important reasons of releasing a "stable" version
of Wine are completely irrelevant.
The third reason of why doing this doesn't make too much sense is that any
newer Wine release (like 1.1.44) can successfully run for more applications
than semi-stable Wine 1.0. Forcing developers to resolve 1.2 nominee bugs also
doesn't seem a good idea - some of those bugs simply need paid developers
because bugs are so complicated they need developers' sweat and blood, so
external contributors will not likely be interested and if they start fixing
them, they can be distracted from working on other no less relevant problems.
Wine's real problem is that it lacks profound regression testing. Generally,
every new Wine release is better than a previous one, but since regressions are
introduced regularly, people complain.
The bottom line is that Wine does not need the next stable release (which will
be a waste and strain of developers’ time and energy); Wine only needs a good
regression testing.
My only proposal is to change Wine releases naming scheme.
Right now we have quite meaningless 1.1.XX releases, which is dull at best. I
propose a scheme based on a year and a release number within this year.
So, the first release of year 2010 will be 10.1, the second release 10.2 and so
on and so forth. Releases' numbers are assigned on a day of release to avoid
confusion. Since this scheme has not been used before, I propose instead of
releasing Wine 1.2, start a new versioning scheme, where the next Wine release
will be 10.1. That will be a bomb, and Wine we will be a super star once again.
Thanks everyone for their hard work,
Artem S. Tashkinov
P.S. Please, repost this message to wine-devel if you find it deserving other
developers' attention.

Regarding your question, MDI applications work in Wine, it's not clear to me
from the description what kind of a problem your app has.

Dmitry, it seems I'm not experienced enough, especially taking in mind I have
the only (and new, and critical) environment in hands.
Not having Windows distribution I, of course, have not Windows applications :-)
- LTspice is almost the only I use (and the second and last one is also free).
I wonder, is LTspice the only MDI app having the problem? Do other MDI apps
work fine? The case LTspice is unique seems to me too surprising.

Dmitry, just want to inform 1.1.42 is also affected (under Kubuntu 10.4). If I
understand you correctly, you mean version field must be one when the bug was
discovered.
As for platform, I have switched to amd64 an age ago, and the issue doesn't
depend on platform arch. As a result, I think setting the field to All is a
correct as far as selecting a concrete one is misleading.

When started, Guitar Pro 5.2 spits out an access violation error message in
French about gdiplus.dll and freezes.
GP5 comes with its own gdiplus.dll, though, so if I remove it, the application
starts with Wine's own gdiplus, but it renders stuff incorrectly - symbols are
displaced and there is no font smoothing.
The freeze after playback issue (bug 17001) is still there.

This allows the swapchain to know what depth format its window contexts

of the

Summary: Major performance drop in King's Bounty games with
shadows enabled
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.43
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: gyebro69(a)gmail.com
Since Wine-1.1.43 both King's Bounty: The Legend and the sequel, King's Bounty:
Armored Princess are unplayable when shadows are enabled in the game. Both
games suffer severe performance drops with shadows enabled.
This was not the case prior to 1.1.43: I was able to play both games at
reasonable framerates with 'normal' shadows enabled on my mediocre hardware.
Tested with the Steam version of the games.
Workaround: disable shadows completely in the game. The issue doesn't seem to
affect the gameplay any other way.
Howto test the issue:
Start King's Bounty-Armored Princess, click on 'Options' and set shadow quality
anything beyond 'Neutral'. See the performance drops on the animated background
behind the princess in the menu. The main game itself also becomes unplayable
due to low framerates.
Bisecting between 1.1.42 and 1.1.43 came up with the following commit:

Prior versions to 1.1.38 do work without problem on the very same system. My OS

Mono is doing something like the following:
* Create a new registry key.
* Delete the new registry key, while it is open.
* Call RegEnumValue on the open handle.
* Expect failure.
Wine apparently succeeds in this case.

Pegasus Mail 4.52 works very well :) except it closes when you send a message
(either to "queue" the message or send it over SMTP) - fortunately the message
sends successfully, despite the program closing. I sent a few messages to my
own e-mail address and they arrived fully intact, including one with an
attachment.
As I'm new to Linux, please bear with me. I cannot take part in expert
testing. I'm posting bug reports voluntarily to help improve Wine.
Thank you for reading.
PS I'm already aware that a separate bug report has been posted about the
secure ("SSL", "STARTTLS" or "STLS") mode not working for POP3 and SMTP under
Wine. I don't know if I need to install a beta version of Wine for the secure
sending/receiving modes to work?

Now that we have a spiffy new msvcr80, I tested it on two
real apps: World of Warcraft and Starcraft II Beta, by
removing their bundled copies of msvcr80 (or equivalently
by marking msvcr80 as builtin only). This failed with
wine: ... unimplemented function msvcr80.dll._initterm_e, aborting
(imported by Battle.net.dll).
_initterm_e is supposedly a version of _initterm that returns 0 on
success, and adding a version that simply calls _initterm and returns 0
gets us on to the next problem.
wine: ... unimplemented function msvcr80.dll._encode_pointer, aborting
(imported by Battle.net.dll).
This is probably just a cdecl version of EncodePointer; implementing
_encode_pointer and _decode_pointer as simple cdecl wrappers gets us to
the next problem,
wine: ... unimplemented function msvcr80.dll._controlfp_s, aborting
(imported by d3dx9_41.dll)
That function's actually documented in msdn, and is probably easy to
fake-implement as a wrapper around control87, but needs tests.
That's where I stopped adding wrappers, and started using winedump
to see if I could get a more complete list of missing functions.
winedump -j import Battle.net.dll plus a little text munging shows
that file imports the following additional functions listed as stubs
in msvcr80.spec:

have found that Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind slowed down to < 1 fps on my ASUS
X70 laptop with ATI HD3470 graphics and fglrx.

WINE's terminal output without any additional debug traces
After starting new game in Giants: Citizen Kabuto Reaper demo v.1.0 (using all
of the default graphics settings) water and sky is rendered correctly, ocean
and lakes are bluish, and on the sky you can see clouds. When the first enemies
(rippers) appear and you shoot them using long distance weapons they blow up
and generally (but not always) in the same time clouds and water dissapear. The
sky becomes composed of one colour, and water is fully transparent, you can
only hear you stepped into it.
I made two movies presenting it:

Summary: Inconsistent initial highlighting/selection of text in

Product: Wine

Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor

ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
IDA Pro is an interactive disassembler. A freeware version can be downloaded
from http://www.hex-rays.com/idapro/idadownfreeware.htm
The initial highlighted state of text in dialog boxes differs between Wine and
Windows, reducing the usability of the program.
Download, install and run it. Open a Windows executable in IDA Pro. When the
analysis has finished, move the cursor over a label and press N to open the
"Rename address" window. In Windows the label name field appears highlighted,
so the current name is replaced when you type something. In Wine it is not, so
you need to delete the existing name manually.
This highlighting (or not) is inconsistent. Press ; to enter a comment on the
current line. Type anything and press Shift-Return, then press ; to edit the
comment you just entered. In the dialog box which appears, the current comment
text *does* appear highlighted, as it should. Note that the behaviour differs
between Wine and Windows here though. If you press cursor-left when the text is
highlighted, the cursor should move to the beginning of the text. In Wine it
does not, moving to the second-last character instead.

The folder icon appears clipped at the bottom edge, while the open folder icon

Both can be seen in the standard file open dialog from any program. I've

corrupted in 3 places (within the first second of time -- actual number of

hack to improve performance greatly
Aliens vs Predator 2 game (DirectX8, I think) is slower in wine by a factor of
5-10 at least, often giving seemingly just a few fps even on lowest settings
whereas on windows it runs great on highest settings. Basically unusable.
The cause is certainly this:
fixme:d3d_draw:drawPrimitive Using software emulation because manual fog
coordinates are provided
I'm sure because a hack that disabled this software emulation makes the game
run in much more acceptable speed. I'm at the moment unaware what side effects
it causes, but the game looks mostly allright with it (I didn't manage to go
beyond the very first room though because of mouse input bug).

The application tells shell32 to write the .lnk file to a specific
C:\path\to\file.lnk location and remembers that location. Any attempt to move
or rename the .lnk after that - even to the other desktop - loses that file and
stops the application from deleting it on uninstall.
The only thing I can think of that would fix this is to virtualize the
filesystem - eg. use a FUSE module that merges
~/.wine/drive_c/users/user/Desktop with ~/Desktop when reading, but write .lnk
files to ~/.wine/drive_c/users/user/Desktop and everything else to ~/Desktop.

I have done a block of uniscribe work (usp10.dll) to greatly improve the bidi

start rendering things with bidi ordering correct. This includes Internet

Mirroring work is ongoing, and shaping is still completely unimplemented.

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell Vostro 1000 using an AMD 64 processor. I
loaded wine 1.1.42 using synaptic and ran wine config.
I tried to use the wine loader to load the M$ windows based program called
Memory Map. This will not run unless a version of IE 4 (or higher) is
installed. The installation failed with the error message "IE4 or higher is
required" (can't remember the exact wording).
I tried various fixes as noted in this link:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1472132
but the only way I could get Memory Map to run under wine was to install the 32
bit version of Ubuntu 10.04.

Dmitry, that is the (indirect) part of my question :)
If Wine's design is too restricting, then in real kernel you could do a lot
more things. That's why I have asked about LKM usefulness with regard to
supporting copyprotection mechanisms.
Readimg mentioned wiki page about GG is useless as it doesn't describe
architectural it's aspects.
But now I've found technical Anastasius reply on this, so my question is over:

Well, there can be many solutions:
Some dummy drivers or a specific routine for emulating them so GameGuard can
recognize them.
There can be many ways for emulating them, or maybe some module just for
emulating gameguard as it can check for it.

Wine has 2 desktops: the user desktop under C:\users\user\Desktop, and the
public desktop under C:\users\Public\Desktop.
Applications that install .lnk files to the public desktop end up putting those
files under ~/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/Desktop, from which winemenubuilder
generates a .desktop file in ~/Desktop. All is well.
But some applications (eg. WinRAR) want to install .lnk files to the user's
desktop, which is ~/.wine/drive_c/users/user/Desktop, but that isn't a
directory, it's just a symlink to ~/Desktop. So the .lnk file goes onto the
real desktop instead of the hidden one.
The selection of where to save the .lnk happen in shell32's IShellLink's
IPersistFile COM interface, before winemenubuilder is launched. By the time
winemenubuilder runs, the .lnk file already exists in the wrong place.
It would be possible for winemenubuilder to move or delete the .lnk file after
it generates the .desktop file, but then we'd lose track of the .lnk <->
.desktop mapping which winemenubuilder can do in order to delete .desktop files
when the corresponding .lnk files are gone (because eg. the application was
uninstalled). Some more intelligent Wine desktops <-> ~/Desktop synchronization
might be necessary.

I will upload crash logs from at least five of these games. But first, I want
to know what to do with this bug reports, as they are messy and confusing. In
the forum, I was told to declare one as duplicate of the other, and that's what
I did, but maybe it's better to close both 9001 and 9121 and creat two new ones
wich accurately describe each of the problems.

The bugs do look somewhat similar.
I'm pretty sure the originally reported crashes for both reports should no
longer happen (http://bugs2.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=10939 and
http://bugs2.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=7325). I can't say much about the

that that's necessarily a Direct3D bug.

The crash logs look different because there are two different bugs, but they
affect various games from WE series, including WE8 and PES6.

Summary: Regression needed to fix some errors that prevent apps
to work correctly on OpenSolaris
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.33

Errors I get while running any application
This is the first bug I file, so I apologize if I missed something.
>From version 1.1.33 on (I tried it up to 1.1.40; sorry for the delay, but wine
was not building on OpenSolaris[1]), wine gives some errors while running any
application (at least, every application that i have installed); also I'm not
sure if these problems happen just on OpenSolaris or on other OS aswell. All
the errors I encountered are in the log that I attached.
With most applications (for istance, Guild Wars, Plants vs Zombies), this
happened while starting them, which led to an empty black screen (wine is still
responding though), but with a few ones this happens after performing some
actions (for istance, Guilty Gear XX #RELOAD, this happens at the character
selection screen: the graphics gets ruined and the game is slowed down to the
point that the seconds timer isn't going down).
I've run a bisect between 1.1.32 and 1.1.33, and I found out that this patch is
causing the issue:
1aa749d9e7ee54f221373ccb2b47bcb31ef6533f is first bad commit
commit 1aa749d9e7ee54f221373ccb2b47bcb31ef6533f
Author: Alexandre Julliard <julliard(a)winehq.org>
Date: Tue Oct 27 19:06:48 2009 +0100

I tried building wine from the git repository reverting only that patch (of
course, adding the patch[2] to fix the compilation problem on OpenSolaris[1]),
and it works flawlessy.
As a closing note, this has been tested with both a clean .wine directory and
my usual one, with the same results; the version of oSol that I'm using is:

In the previous ubuntu version it worked perfectly with wine 1.1-43, so I
suspect the ATI driver, although there might be a relation with wine.
This system suffered from an ATI bug in the previous ubuntu version:

I'm running Ubuntu, 9.04. 64-bits.
When I upgrade from the wine version in Ubuntu's repositories to 1.1.43, and
run the latest Spotify client (0.4.3.383), my xwindows session abruptly crashes
and I get thrwn out to the logi screen.
This did not happen with the last version of Spotify.
And, if I downgrade wine to version 1.1.31 (the one in ubuntu's repos)
everything works.
So: the combination of wine 1.1.43 and Spotify 0.4.x, and my x64 system,
doesn't seem like a good combo.
See attached log.

Hello,
unfortunately it appears the problems has even worsened:
Now the application crashes without even starting with the following errors:
wine Circ.exe
err:module:import_dll Library krb5_32.dll (which is needed by
L"C:\\ALEPH_20\\Circ\\bin\\Circ.exe") not found
err:module:import_dll Library comerr32.dll (which is needed by
L"C:\\ALEPH_20\\Circ\\bin\\Circ.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for
L"C:\\ALEPH_20\\Circ\\bin\\Circ.exe" failed, status c0000135
This is with ALEPH version 20.01, wine 1.1.43 and Ubuntu 10.04 32bit
Also the installer, which previously worked without problems, now complains
about random dlls missing (i.e. msvcirt.dll which instead is present and other
ones) and aborts the installation. This test has been made by manually copying
a working installation from a native windows into wine's drive_c folder.

I am using a Logitech USB headset with microphone when playing TF2 and I am
told by others that when I talk it sounds broken-up (stuttered audio) and
crackly.
So I think I can confirm that this is still a problem with Wine 1.1.43 and ALSA
(over PulseAudio on Ubuntu 10.04, was a problem for me in 9.10 as well). Is
there some test I can do to confirm this is correect?

Log of trying to scroll the chipset in RPG-Maker 2000
I found this bug using the DIB engine. Though most parts of the RPG-Maker are
working much faster then without the DIB engine, one can not scroll the chipset
on the left side.
Just a quick note on the program: The RPG-Maker 2000 (rm2k for short) is a
program to create 2d-games. The chipset is a set of tiles you can use to create
maps. The problem with the engine is, that you can't scroll through it. But if
you extend the window, you can see more of the set.
I think the following lines of the log are the important ones:
[...]
err:dibdrv:_DIBDRV_ConvertDIBtoDDB SetDIBits failed
trace:dibdrv:DIBDRV_DeleteBitmap hbitmap:0x45f0
err:dibdrv:DIBDRV_BitBlt Failed converting source DIB to DDB
[...]
(found near the end of the log; the errors always occur, if I try to scroll.)
With the engine turned of, the scrolling works fine, but other parts of the
rm2k are extremly slow; to slow to work with it.
Is there anything I can do about this problem?

Newest git still has this bug. The output is the same.
