Obviously, in reading further in the documentation, it seems that the file

It may have security and DDoS implications that an end application is able to
take down a machine thus.
It seems that the command interpreter should check the existence of a binary,

Of course I would like to test it :)
I use Fedora 11 (soon to be 12) 64 bit.
When I compiled I had some dependency problems but nothing too complicated.
Wine has a good wiki about it. I don't know if you need to look into that for
rpm package.
I can see hamachi's IP on network, so you are right that /etc/hosts is not
necessary.
The route that I mentioned was a bit incomplete. The full command would be:
route add -host 255.255.255.255 dev ham0
I will try with and without the routing when I get the chance.
But I guess this one is exclusively about the VPN unlike the /etc/hosts line.

> 255.255.255.255 either?

That's correct. Unless you need to do something with your configuration to get
hamachi to work at all then these patches should remove the need to do the old
tweaking. Relevant explanations:
/etc/hosts:
The patch does a test to see if the loopback IP is returned for
gethostbyname("your_computer_name") and if this would be the case then it
returns instead the list of IP addresses corresponding to all of the "local" IP
addresses. This list is returned based on the routing priority, as it is
according to the documentation and under all my Windows testing. So, provided
that your hamachi VPN connection has the highest routing priority then that is
the IP address that gets returned to the game (you can check this in-game by
going to the network settings).
route 255.255.255.255:
I never saw this configuration actually work; however, my understanding of the
code and this option is that this change allows the game to send to the
broadcast address as if it is any old IP. This set of patches should not
require such a change as it is setup to do broadcasting "properly."

Well "online" never worked for me for some reason.
So when I mean online I mean over a VPN using hamachi. That's how I always
played (in a win machine).
I compiled wine with your patches and all went well so far.
However I couldn't test LAN support just yet.
I tried last weekend and it didn't work, but I think i was having problems with
Hamachi since I couldn't see the other player online there, so that might be
the cause. Hopefully I will test it again soon.
So you say I don't need to add hamachi's IP on /etc/hosts? No need to route to
255.255.255.255 either?
I will let you know how it went later though.
Let's hope it will work.
Thanks!

Add force-box option to MouseWarpOverride registry key
Here's a patch to add ``force-box'' option to current MouseWarpOverride
registry key against current (2009/11/17) git.
You can also add a ``BoxPixels'' key with values 1-999 to define the size of
the box (it defaults to 10) that'll wrap the mouse.
It works quite nicely for me in Borderlands, much better than ``force'' at
least. I've written it during a lunch break and I'm not familiar with wine
internals at all (basically I just retro-fitted an existing patch
http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=11303), so someone more knowledgeable
please take a look at it and fix if necessary.

When using the awesome window manager, Wine windows behave strange (see below).
I didn't get an answer on the awesome mailing list, but someone sent me a mail
in private, stating that he had the same problem with Photoshop.
Here's the mail I sent to the awesome mailing list with the description of the
problem:
Hi,
I use Lotus Notes in WINE and the windows behave quite strange. Now
this might be a WINE problem, but I wanted to ask here if someone has
experienced smth. similar with other applications or if someone has
ideas about what the reason might be.
At first the window is positioned correctly. But on focus change (either
focus-in or focus-out) or if any control in the window is clicked, the
window moves 2 pixels to the right and to the bottom. From now on, on
each focus change the window jerks once very quickly: it moves to
its original position and then back to the 2 pixel off position.
Sometimes, but not always, this also happens when clicking controls.
Or it moves further right and down in 2 pixel steps each time the focus
is changed or a control clicked.
Whether it jerks or keeps moving is quite erratic.
If the window is set to floating it still does the initial move on the
first click/focus change after the window has been moved with the
mouse, but no further jerking/moving occurs on subsequent clicks/focus
changes.
The window can be moved back to the original position by switching tags
or between layouts.
Cheers,
harry

Valgrind reports a definite leak in chromium's test suite.
To reproduce:
mkdir demo
cd demo
wget -c http://kegel.com/wine/chromium/chromium-tests.tar.bz2
tar -xjvf chromium-tests.tar.bz2
valgrind --trace-children=yes --leak-check=full wine
src/chrome/Debug/app_unittests.exe --gtest_filter=ClipboardTest.WriteEverything
The warning is

Can't and won't are two very different concepts. As far as I understand, it's
the "won't" that is really holding you back. You just don't want to write such
a tool. Objectively, nothing else is holding you back. Yet look at the number
of votes this bug got. It's more than a lot so-called first priority bugs
gathered. Doesn't it tell you anything? Maybe the interface thing is not so
unimportant after all? Sure, it doesn't break anything, but such improvements
are the most visual. Personally, I think the possibility of better integration
is "very very good reason" to use whatever is needed to achieve it.

Hack to get the installer further
So I tried this app out today and the symptoms that I saw was that it got into
an infinite loop calling IDispatch::Invoke to remotely call a function that
calls MsiRecordReadStream.
This one was a real pain in the arse to debug due to the subtle nature of the
bug and the sheer amount of code being executed. It turns out that the bug is
that the value returned from that call isn't copied back into the memory that
was passed into the function.
This patch hacks up IDispatch_Invoke_Proxy to cope with the specific type of
byref type that is used by this installer. A more complete patch will have to
work for all byref types and analyse whether the parameters to the remote
function are used correctly.

Then what's holding you back from implementing it if it "seems" so simple?
Wine can not and will not use GTK/QT tool kits for it's GUI - it plain can not
work for windows apps. Wine does not and will not depend on something it has no
use for (the tool to import color data from GTK/QT). Wine does not have any c++
code and will not accept any without a really really good reasons.
Closing won't fix. There is nothing that can be done beyond of what Wine
already have. If some one wants to implement external tool to get theme data
from GTK/QT and import into Wine or create a Windows' .theme file for Wine to
use - they are welcome to make it an external app. It won't be included into
Wine.

AppDB currently allows only receiving all e-mails or none at all. It's not so
bad if you maintain a few apps, but when you've got admin rights, the global
e-mails flood my inbox. Something more like bugzilla, allowing to fine tune
which e-mails are/are not received would be helpful.
For instance, I'd like to receive e-mails just for apps I maintain, or for
private messages, but not for all other global e-mails.

I thought Wine was supposed to provide a seamless native layer for Windows
application in Unixes, but this philosophy of separation seems a lot like what
we get with virtual machines. Whereas Wine Myths
(http://wiki.winehq.org/Debunking_Wine_Myths) supposedly states: "Wine
integrates with the desktop ... and makes Windows applications first-class
citizens. Now you can ... place that application's window side by side with
native applications". The next logical step with the integration aspect is, in
my opinion, theme integration, so that placing Wine applications side by side
with native ones wouldn't make them look crippled in comparison.

As far as I know, those themes are unusable in Wine, because they are so slow
and CPU-hungry no one uses them. Besides, there is no external tool yet, so the
problem isn't solved. Plus, I think this tool should be part of the Wine
project. Who said Wine should only consist of the layer itself plus
applications that it can run? Who would object to an external, Linux-native
configurtion tool, I wonder?

Oh, by the way, I Googled around and found out that this is already implemented
in Qt4 by q4wine (http://q4wine.brezblock.org.ua/), a Qt4 GUI for Wine
configuration. I tried it, and the color exporting tool works great, at least,
but the rest of the project is still alpha quality, I think.

I don't think I have the unlimited version, at least it doesn't say anything
like that on the CD. "Error 36" is supposed to tell me that the patch could not
find the game, but I tried it in a VM as well and got the same error.
After comparing the log files of the three possible ways to run SC (in a 24bit
X-Server, in a nested 16bit X-Server, in a full 16bit X-Server), I come to the
conclusion that the nested X-server does not properly support OpenGL - the
error about the wrong bitmap format is also present in a full 16bit session,
but doesn't harm then. That is confirmed by glxinfo saying "Direct rendering:
No" when run in the Xephyr session. The Xephyr homepage confirms: "no GLX
support now". Is there any nested X-Server which does support OpenGL, or a way
to change the depth of a running X-Server? Having to change xorg.conf and
restart the whole X-server whenever I want to play this game is kind of
annoying.

It only seems so easy. Wine shouldn't depend on GTK/Qt or anything else,
controls should be drawn and work as much close to natives as possible.
Complete native themes support is enough here to treat this bug fixed. I don't
know if generating .theme file + some registry data from Qt/GTK theme data is
possible, but it definitely should be an external tool.
Personally I think such complexity isn't needed at all - there's a lot of
important bugs to fix for controls, and this one has a very low priority.

Thanks for the quick help! Unfortunately, this did not work. I tried Xephyr,
and when running the game within it, I get:
err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateBitmap Trying to make bitmap with planes=1, bpp=32
err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateBitmap Trying to make bitmap with planes=1, bpp=32

Major opcode of failed request: 150 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 407
Current serial number in output stream: 407
While the Xephyr window shows the infamous "??? Unknown Exception" again -
without even starting to play the music. Doing the same in my main X session
(24bit), I hear at least some music before I get that error. However, if I set
my full X session to 16bit, the game starts fine (I just tested loading some
pre-existing city which worked). So for some reason wine still tries to
allocate 32bit-bitmaps if it is run in 16bit-Xephyr, but not if it is run in a
full 16bit X-server.
Is this still the right bug (which should be re-opened then), or should I open
a new one?

Just out of curiosity -- why can't it? It's not like Wine can't access the user
interface -- it uses the tray, for one. And, I assume, as all settings on Linux
usually do, the color scheme in use should be written in some plain text file
-- can't Wine access the file system? Of course it can. So I'm at a loss.
Anyway, I'd think on Linux it would be easier to code a GTK+/Qt app than to
re-implement Windows API, as Wine does, so I don't see the complexity of
writing a simple helper application which would pass on the colors to Wine.
Please don't think I'm criticizing the people doing the amazing work developing
Wine -- as I have said, I understand the complexity of the task the program
aims to accomplish. I'm just very surprised such a simple thing as probing the
colors is regarded as a complicated task.

Yes, that would need to be an external application written in c++ for QT/GTK.
Wine itself won't be able to do it.

I had just installed Opensuse 11.2 shipped with wine 1.1.33 and i installed it
with dvd version x86_64 (i have an Intel dual core with 4gb of ram).
When i ran winecfg, it create the .wine directory and then it says that it
couldn't extract install_cab, and it couldn't install gecko too.
I tried to use wine-doors, it fails too (unable to download and install some
applications).
the exact text is below :
christophe@zgcportable:~> winecfg
wine: created the configuration directory '/home/christophe/.wine'
err:mshtml:install_cab Could not extract package: 80070002
Could not load wine-gecko. HTML rendering will be disabled.
wine: configuration in '/home/christophe/.wine' has been updated.
I needed wine to install Ie7 (for testing my intranet site) but it seems not
working on Opensuse 11.2.

Can't at least colors adjust automatically? Is it that hard to do? It's very
easy now to find a color theme and paste it into Wine's regestry. How difficult
can it be for those colors to be taken from similar values in Qt4/GTK+?

As far as I can see, '$shtdwn$.reg' is not prefixed with a dot or anything, so
that can't be the problem here... Right?

The problem is the installer expects the file to be hidden, in the Windows way,
e.g., not a '.', but given the hidden attribute, which Wine does not support.

You said:

I thought this was the way Wine does it now :)
What about this: Wine gets (for case insensitivity) a solution like ciopfs: all
files are stored in lower case, and then Wine keeps a database file (sqlite or
so?) containing the original filename and other non-ext properties, like
whether they are hidden. Using SQLite, it wouldn't be too slow; Wine doesn't
need to read all files in the directory since the files are lowercase.
It only needs to search if the lowercase file does not exist, in which case it
does search and if it finds a file, it renames it to lowercase and adds it to
the database to speed up future searches; this is necessary to merge from older
Wine versions. This solution will only be noticeably slow when an application
continuously asks for a non-existent file; and it will be just as slow as the
old Wine solution. It will also be backwards compatible, only older versions of
Wine will not return the original filename but the lower case one (since they
search the whole directory anyway).
Any objections, except that SQLite support is needed?

You forgetting that Wine doesn't have it's own FS. Nothing prevents a program
outside of Wine to copy a file into "C:".
Also what about the rest of the root file system (/)?
This can only be supported for files created from within Wine. The actual
attributes can be stored in the special hidden file in the same directory
(preferred) or the globally (not portable).

That's only a real problem as far as that program only writes lowercased
files... I think that's an acceptable thing, isn't it?
> Also what about the rest of the root file system (/)?
It would just work like wine works now; readdir() I guess. :)

Ok. I agree the main flaw in the idea (the fact that from outside wine, the
case insensitivity isn't enforced) makes it a no-go. I could implement this
special hidden file support (or even generally, extra file flag support) in
Wine, but it may take a moment since I'm totally not accustomed to Wine's
source, I've never seen a bit of it.
If there's anything I should read about the plans related to this before I
start, please drop me some links and I'll get coding. (that's apart from the
normal stuff a beginning Wine developer should read, I can find those on my own
;) )

Changing description as suggested by AF to just the hidden file bug,

better would be to add "online installer" as the full installer (offline)
doesn't need this workaround.

user_xattr seems to be turned on by default these days
(probably since distros started shipping tracker and beagle),
so maybe that's a good option.

I implemented support for the hidden bit along with the
fix for bug 15679), but it doesn't seem to fix this.
In my testing of FindFirstFile etc. on vista, it seems
that layer is not supposed to obey the hidden
attribute; even on Vista, FindFirstFile will happily
return hidden files to the caller.
The dialog box from the installer is complaining
about not being able to open the file, and the log
shows it's because of a sharing conflict... the app
never seems to close the file the first time?
The upper bit in its attributes is FILE_FLAG_DELETE_ON_CLOSE,
so perhaps if it got closed, the whole problem would
go away...

Did you make sure you used a "right-click -> save as" when downloading the
patches? I should probably throw up a little download script so it doesn't try
to open the patches in the browser. (If you copy and paste from the browser
window it will mangle the line feeds in the patch).
> That means it's not patching for some reason?

That should work, it's probably that the patch is mangled.

No, you do not need to edit your /etc/hosts or the registry either. If you've
edited your /etc/hosts you should* be able to edit it back, usually something
that looks like this:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 your_computer_hostname
* I have a report of a problem with the automatic IP detection. It works for
me, but if the game crashes on launch then you'll need to put your IP in the
/etc/hosts file.

Online or over a LAN? The game should work on the Internet without any
patches...

Hi Eric, thanks for your reply.
I'm looking forward to try your patches, this is one alternative that I haven't
tried yet (did tried the rpm package with the network patch though).
I downloaded all your 10 patches, got wine 1.1.33, but when I start applying
the patches I get the messages:
patch unexpectedly ends in middle of line
patch: **** Only garbage was found in the patch input.
That means it's not patching for some reason?
What I'm doing is "patch -p1 < patch_file.patch" in the wine folder
Also, should I get the network(bind) patch as well or one of yours take care of
it ? Just to confirm..
Looking forward for your reply! I've waited enough to play this game online.

Nope, the patches used for that are a compiled binary of the old hack. I've
been trying to develop a more solid solution to the problem, though
unfortunately I've been a bit short on free time lately. So, for now I'd like

The check that is failing in chromium's source is
gfx::Rect rect(metafile.GetBounds());
DCHECK_EQ(rect.x(), 0);
It looks like Chromium is creating an in-memory metafile
to do a print preview, then loads that metafile,
does a sanity check on its bounding box, and barfs.

Show presence of ref counting bug
crypt32 uses ref counting to keep track of certificates, CRLs, and CTLs. The
ref counting isn't done correctly, which can be seen by running
'WINEDEBUG=crypt make store.ok' in the tests. Looking through the output
you'll find instances where the ref count becomes negative.
I'm attaching a patch which adds an assert that the ref count is positive
before decrementing it. Applying the patch and running 'make store.ok'
produces an assertion failure:
context.c:150: Context_Release: Assertion `base->ref > 0' failed.

grep FAIL ipc*.log
shows about 10 failures of IPCChannelTest.SendMessageInChannelConnected
here (with or without logging). Looking at the logs with grep
shows that successful runs end with a call to ExitProcess(0) in
both parent and child, but failed runs end with just one ExitProcess(1)
and a call to GetQueuedCompletionStatus() that does not return.
Searching through the chromium codebase seems to indicate that
this function is called only in MessagePumpForIO::GetIOItem() in
http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome/trunk/src/base/message_pump_win.cc
The IO completion events in this test seem mainly to come from
reads of a named pipe. Grepping for the handle of that named pipe
plus a few other interesting words,
egrep
'FAIL|Exit|error|PASS|RUN|CreateProcess|GetQueuedCompletionStatus|0x68[^0-9a-f]|00068[^0-9a-f]'
shows lots of normal operation (an NtReadFile() followed by a few

This is all just extrapolation from one log, but it does seem like
wine might not be doing the right thing with GetQueuedCompletionStatus()

the MS C++ runtime for some reason (though you have to accept the license for
them).

simple fix for problem mentioned
When using WinHttpSendRequest() with an empty string as 'headers' argument and
-1 as a value for the header length, an INVALID_PARAMETER error is returned.
add_request_headers() in winhttp/request.c correctly performs a strlen() on the
headers argument if header length is specified as -1.
The problem is that if headers is an empty string, and there is no actual
header, the search for '\r\n\ fails, the terminating zero is found, and
add_request_header breaks out of the loop with a FALSE return value.
Under Windows, this call is successful.
Attached simple return statement fixes the problem (but maybe should be fixed
in a different way).
Thanks,
Arnoud.

As can be seen in the attached screenshot, my toolbar icons for Notation
Composer 2.3.3 are either missing or white. The "white" icons actually have
some color to them. The effect is similar to increasing the gamma. Please see
http://appdb.winehq.org/screenshots.php?iAppId=5365&iVersionId=11378 as an
example of how it should look.
This was not a problem with Wine 1.1.12; however, my regression tests from
current git to 1.1.12 have turned up nothing. My xorg-server version jumped
from 1.4 to 1.6.2 since my last set of tests months ago, which may have
something to do with it. I have no way of testing that assumption atm.
I have tried native comctl32, switching between 16 and 24 bpp in X, and setting
Windows version to 98, 2000, and Vista. I started with a fresh ~/.wine for each
test. No change to the bug.
To reproduce, follow the howto at
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=11378. Timidity is
not necessary in this case.
This may be a dupe of Bug 7905, but I'll leave that to the experts.

output of wine-1.1.26
Hello,
in monkey island special edition the version hotswap that should switch between
the old 90's design and the new one does not work.
F10 should activate the version hotswap ingame. But it seems that pressing F10
is just ignored. It also does not seem that the window manager has blocked that
key.
I am using Ubuntu 9.04 (amd64) and wine-1.1.26.
Attached is the output of wine. But it seems that nothing special is being
written if I press F10 ingame.

If you use builtin msxml3 implementation, the installer silently exits.
After overriding it with ms's one, the installer goes further then displays an
error dialog, which says WLM programs cannot be installed.
After further investigation, i looked its setup log, which says:
--

This error means: ERROR_RESOURCE_LANG_NOT_FOUND, which thrown by FormatMessageW
After looking at +relay log, i can confirm:

Summary: Crazy Machines with CD-ROM: no mouse, no exit
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.19
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winmm&mci
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
Some testers in AppDB already mentioned broken exit behaviour with Crazy
Machines:
"Quit the game takes some times very long or don't work at all"
"Exiting the game can only be achieved with Ctrl + C. The Quit Game ingame
option does not work."
"Even the quit-bug in wine 1.1.3 vanished for me"
The exact behaviour depends on whether wine pretends there is a CD-ROM drive.
What's even weirder is that failure to exit the application correlates with an
invisible mouse pointer.
Two version of Crazy Machines I can test present similar behaviour:
- CM Inventor's Workshop (Erfinderwerkstatt, retail)
- CM Operation Brainstorm (sequel aka. New Challenges, demo)
In Inventor's workshop (IW), when the game does not exit, the info screen (with
2 exit+cancel buttons) disappears, returning to the main menu. In Operations
Braintorm (OB), the trailer screen remains in place.
The invisible mouse pointer makes it tough to select objects, but they still
highlight and react when the mouse passes over them.
The following table lists some of my findings.
* "poi" means whether the mouse pointer is visible or not.
* "mou" HW or SW inside the app's option menu.
* "exi" whether the app exists when asked to.
* "full." winecfg fullscreen or desktop window. The app's own option is always
fullscreen, to avoid an ugly border.
* "music" off, CD or game's own .ogg files, see options menu
* "DOS" the one important point: what kind of drives does wine declare?

* "link" means a sole symbolic link without further action:
ln -s /media/cdrom ~/.wine/dosdevices/d:
* "D" means d: -> /media/cdrom0 and d:: -> /dev/scd0
winecfg can create this for you when it detects a CD-ROM in a drive.
* "defd" (defined) means an entry like follows in system.reg:
[Software\\Wine\\Drives] 1240505086
"d:"="cdrom"
You need not mess with the registry. Use winecfg, then check the result in
system.reg.
* "mus" means a music CD is inserted.
* "mix" means a data CD-ROM with additional music tracks is inserted.
A link dosdevices/d:: -> /dev/scd0 alone does not cause trouble. (It produces
interesting results with wine cmd dir d: -- serial number and label are listed,
but no contents).
Both registry entry and dosdevices/d: (not d::) must be set for the bug to show
up. I choose /media/cdrom above as an example, but the bug also shows up when
you declare a directory from your HD as a CD-ROM in winecfg.
With a CD-ROM in the drive, this effect mostly disappears.
A distinct issue is that Intrepid froze shortly after the CD-ROM was accessed
(repeatably). The caps_lock light went on. Hardy froze while in the initial
screen (Die Völker CD-ROM); no caps_lock. I need to investigate this further
before reporting it, as I have some other wine apps that freeze Linux, and most
of these also can use mcicda -- maybe that's the clue.
Using Ubuntu Intrepid and Kubuntu Hardy, ALSA without pulseaudio (pactl exit),
Intel AC'97 audio.

EA Durbin commited a fix a while back that fixed this on FreeBSD/PC-BSD, but
OpenSolaris still isn't feeling the love. I think he also fixed part of it on
their end, so this may not be entirely Wine's bug. I've already filed an
OpenSolaris bug: http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=4149

FWIW, there's a patch on blastwave.org (sort of like an apt-get for Solaris)
that may fix this, but it doesn't quiet apply cleanly:
https://pkgbuild.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/pkgbuild/spec-files-extra/trun…
Haven't looked at it too much though, as I'm pretty sure the license is
incompatible.

Summary: MCI_WAVE_SET_SAMPLESPERSEC not implimented, patch (needs

Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: winmm&mci
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: nospam(a)thenerdshow.com
I compiled the following using mingw32:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms713226(VS.85).aspx
Description, From MSDN: "Uses the MCI_OPEN, MCI_RECORD, and MCI_SAVE commands
to record and save a waveform-audio file."
Test Results: It builds with no errors and records a wav file! The resulting
wav file, however is in the wrong format (44000 Hz), a rate which I can't see
is defined anywhere. (winecfg is set at 48000 Hz) and can't be played back with
MCI_PLAY. Nor can it be played back with aplay, totem or xine.
However, I converted the wav file into an mp3 and found that it is in fact
correctly recorded, albeit in the wrong format, so I modified the example code
and tried to set different parameters like so:
dwReturn = mciSendCommand(
(MCIDEVICEID) &wDeviceID, // the above device ID
MCI_WAVE_SET_SAMPLESPERSEC, // command to send
MCI_SET | MCI_WAIT, // method of sending
22000 ); // set sample rate to 22000
Result: Again, it builds with no errors but the wav file is still being
recorded at 44000 Hz! A look at the terminal output reveals an interesting
discovery:
fixme:mci:MCI_MapMsgAtoW Message MCI_<<40000>> needs translation
fixme:mci:mciSendCommandA message 40000 mapping failed
Looking at the wine source, 40000 mapping equates to this function:
$ grep MCI_WAVE_SET_SAMPLESPERSEC /usr/include/wine/windows/mm*
#define MCI_WAVE_SET_SAMPLESPERSEC 0x00040000L
So you see, I can't proceed to change the recording format of my program except
in windows.
So before I started fixing wine I asked google to see if I was just duplicating
effort and got this patch (and possibly the related links), submitted in 2001
that provides this functionality, but it needs cleaned up:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2001-April/000267.html
I will try to make this patch work and get it into the right format over the
course of the next month, but I am on a very limited budget and need to spend
time looking for work so if anyone else who has more time to devote to it,
please do so.

ReportedBy: bonzini(a)gnu.org
The program in the URL, which tests a native Windows emulation of poll(2)
similar to Cygwin's, exposes several bugs in Wine:
1) if compiled with -DINTERACTIVE, Wine crashes on test_pipe if test_tty is
enabled
2) if not compiled with -DINTERACTIVE, Wine crashes on test_pipe if it is not
placed first.
3) test_pipe crashes Wineserver (there is a comment in the function -- if you
comment everything after the function, it works).
It should be compiled using MinGW tools (./configure && make), and run with
"wine gltests/test-poll.exe".
The TTY test fails, but as I couldn't test it under Windows, I don't know if it
is a bug. The important part is the crash on pipes, anyway! On a brighter
note, socket tests pass with flashing lights.

Patch for kernel32
After upgrade to Wine 1.1.0 from 0.9.56 I found out that my WinEdt can't launch
Unix binaries (xdvi, xterm etc) anymore. A dialog box saying "Cannot execute
command ..." appears, but binaries are started anyway. AFAICS it is caused by a
patch by Dmitry Timoshkov that introduces "winoldap.mod". Now WinExec creates a
process and then executes wait_input_idle() that fails for Unix processes that
have hProcess == 0. I attach a quick fix that solves the problem for me, but I
am not sure that my patch is quite correct and complete. Now we can only check
that a Unix process is started successfully, but we don't know what is going on
later. Maybe somebody is able to propose a better solution?

This file cannot be saved using wine 1.0rc4 on Ubuntu Hardy
Hi Wine,
First things first, here are some information about my system :
I'm using Ubuntu Hardy,
# wine --version
wine-1.0-rc4
# uname -a
Linux minimal 2.6.24-18-generic #1 SMP Wed May 28 20:27:26 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux
I'm using "Microsoft Office 2002 (10.6501.6626) SP3".
I'm launching the software with the gnome launcher : `env
WINEPREFIX="/home/user/.wine" wine "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office10\EXCEL.EXE"`
Here is the bug and how to reproduce it :
1) Launch Excel 2002
2) An error message appears once the software is loaded : "Erreur d'accès de
fichier. La connexion réseau a peut-être été perdue." which can be loosely
translated into "Error accessing the file. Network connection has perhaps been
lost."
3) Ignore the error by clicking "Ok"
4) Open a specific file (I couldn't find some common stuff between the files
that cannot be saved, even some highly complex files could be saved while some
very simple couldn't)
5) Try to save the file
6) An error message appears : "Disk full"
7) Click "Ok"
8) Another error message appears : "Document not saved" ("Document non
enregistré.")
9) That's it : _some_ documents are just impossible to save, which is a bit
pointless :>
You'll find a file that can't be saved using wine-1.0-rc4 (the bug was also
present is rc3).
For the information, it's possible to open and save the same file with cxoffice
6.2.0-1.
One last thing : I have 13GB free on / and 167GB free on /home, the permissions
are ok in every directories I tried to save the files in.

I used wine version 9.44 as provided with OpenSuse 10.3 (32 bit).
For the graphic card (NVidia GeForce 7900) the latest NVidia driver 169.12-0.1
was used. 3 D graphic worked fine. Compiz was not installed.
Then I installed "Vampire-Bloodlines" with the latest patches. And it was
mostly playable.
After updating to version 1.0 RC 2, I get a nearly black screen directly after
starting that game.
Light sources are hardly recognizable. Everything else is pitch black.
There is not warning or error message logged into the console.
When I disable the "pixel shader" with winecfg, the screen is once again o.k.
There are still some some minor atrifacts, probably due to the missing shader.
To make it short: The support of the pixel shader seems to be broken somewhere
between 9.44 and 1.0 RC 2.

Output of WINEDEBUG=+relay as described in the HowTo
I'm using wine 0.9.59 (precompiled rpm) on an OpenSuse 10.2 box to execute
Altera's QuartusII (7.2SP3) application. I could install the application
through its installation process. Running the program yields a lot of messages
from the embedded cygwin programs, thus I took one example to create this bug
report.
I obtained the attached artifacts while running mount.exe from the cygwin
directory that was installed by Quartus. The program hangs after a while with
100% CPU load. I need to kill mount.exe manually to get back access to the
shell. Other cygwin programs behave similarly.

Summary: The conformance tests fail on Windows
Product: Wine

Platform: Other
URL: http://test.winehq.org/data/

Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: testcases
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: fgouget(a)codeweavers.com
The conformance tests, that is what constitutes 'make test', are supposed to
test and document the Windows behavior so that we can then verify that Wine
behaves like Windows. This has two important consequences:
* it means that no conformance test should ever fail on Windows.
* it means that any conformance test that fails on Windows is useless for
making sure that Wine behaves like Windows.
Unfortunately we currently have too many conformance tests that fail on
Windows. As of today (2008/03/16), approximately 37% of the conformance tests
fail on Windows XP, 2003 or Vista. If you add other Windows versions, then this
percentage rises well above 50%.
See the URL below for up-to-date results:
http://test.winehq.org/data/

The status bar is not being updated at all until the window gets redrawn (e.g.
due to a workspace change or by moving other windows over the status bar). It
should be updated continuously. Everything else (visualization window,
playlist) gets updated correctly.
Since there has not been made any improvement yet (tested many wine versions >=
0.9.33), I decided to report this as a bug.
It seems to be not specific to any foobar2000 version (tested 0.8.3 and some
0.9.4.*).

Summary: winecfg freezes when alt+ certain keys in certain places
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.46.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.winehq.org/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: l_bratch(a)yahoo.co.uk
In certain places in winecfg, pressing alt + a certain key will freeze winecfg
(it never seems to actually crash).
Steps to reproduce:
Start winecfg
Click Libraries
Press alt + m
winecfg has now frozen.
- It works on tabs other than Libraries, and with keys other than alt + m
(depending on what tab you are on).
- If the key pressed is an alt + key shortcut on the current tab, it won't
crash
- It only happens when no control has the current focus - ie. when you have
just changed tabs, but if you tab to select the tabs then change tab, it will
not freeze.
Also tested with the latest Git.
There is on terminal output, other than the fixme printed at startup:
fixme:wave:OSS_WaveInit () stub

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: winehqbugs(a)bugmenot.com
Hi, this is my first time submitting a bug, so I apologize if I do anything
wrong here.
Currently, when attempting to submit a new application to AppDB, a blank page
is shown with some error messages (sorry, I didn't save them) after pressing
submit. Although the newly-submitted application appears on the queued items
page, clicking edit reveals that all the version and test information has been
blanked - only the information from the "application form" section remains.
Attempting to edit the blank areas doesn't produce any errors, but any
information added there from the edit screen is also discarded. At the same
time, deleting these broken submissions from the queue is impossible, as
attempting to delete them produces the following error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined method Application::getPref() in
/home/winehq/opt/appdb/include/user.php on line 584
Submission worked fine 24 hours ago.

When you post a howto as a maintainer of versionX to only the main version you
are allowed to.
Then you can not edit the howto anymore (because of the rights I suppose)
I stumbled on this with winamp ( sorry I have my way to mess things up, but I
think this should not be possible in the first place)
So now I could not extend/edit this howto to version 5X, therefore I added
another & the same howto to version 5X (wich I should have done in the first
place)
The not editing ability in the main howto will become a problem for the future
versions, so better please someone remove it.
Thanks,
Adri

SetThreadIdealProcess returns success since wine-1.1.26-445-g20276d0, and
GdipBitmapGetPixel has been implemented since wine-1.1.29-533-g41140a9, so the
Microsoft Dynamics GP Standard demo installer should probably be retested.

I have to correct myself. It doesn't look like the -w and -h parameters work.
Leave those off and it should launch. You might be able to chance the
resolution within the game at that point.

I had the same error on the Steam Installed version.
If you are running freedom force in Steam you should be able to work around the
issue by running in windowed mode. Just modify the launch options,in the
general tab of the games properties menu, to include something similar to the
line below.
-windowed -w 1024 -h 768
You might be able to get it working in fullscreen mode without crashing using
some of the other launch options at

Good Luck.

I do have exactly this issue with wine 1.1.32: Both with and without WM
integration, the game starts with a black screen and some music (I'm not sure
whether there should be video here), and after clicking, I get some grey
artefacts in one corder of the screen and an "??? Unknown Exception" message. I
do have some error message about colour depth, but it comes already before the
music starts:
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found 16x16x16
@0! (desktop)
I reverted my local wine sources to wine-1.1.25 and still have the same issue,
so I wonder what was done to fix it.
I still have to find out how to set my Desktop to 16 bit colour depth (startx
requires me to use root, and even if I "su" back to my normal user in that
session things don't work, wine says it can't find a display).

I can confirm this on Ubuntu 9.10 using Wine 1.1.32. Sound working during

but not under game.
Running winetricks for directx9 and mfc42 and adding the following DLL
overrides as native made the sound work:
dmime
dmsynth
dmusic
dsound
dswave
l3codecx
As per mizipzor's post.

ok guys i know im new here but i may have stumbled upon a workaround for
fallout 1, i haven't checked it on fallout 2 but i will be checking that on my
lunch hour at work and if it does work on my end i will post to let you guys
know. so here is what i found: if you go into your fallout directory
"~/.wine/drive_c/fallout/" for me you find a file called ddraw.ini in which a
several setting having to do with direct draw among other things but there are
two that once i changed i can play fallout without any lag in game.
[Graphics]
;Set to 0 for 8 bit fullscreen
;Set to 1 for 8 bit windowed
;Set to 4 for dx9 fullscreen
;Set to 5 for dx9 windowed
;Mode 1 requires your desktop colour depth to be set to 32 bit
;Windowed modes incur a performance hit. (Modes 1 and 5 more so than mode 3)
;The 16 bit colour modes cause movies to display incorrect colours, and slows

;dx9 modes work with fallout 1, but results in movies being completely

A game by cyberlife, "Creatures 3" will install, and will prompt for a CD, it
will even (somehow) create an AOL shortcut on my Ubuntu 8.10 desktop but when I
go to actually run the game, my machine makes a sound like it's running it then
it just stops and doesn't run the game at all.
The game is a fairly old game, needing Direct X 7 to run. My best guess would
be that the version of Direct X that comes with WINE just won't run it but
being that it is so old I can't imagine why not.
I dual boot between Ubuntu and Windows XP Home, and Windows XP will run the
game just fine.

As the attached screenshots shows, if you look up (when you see the sky), then
look down, then a shader stuck on the screen, and you can see only the
particles on it (on that part of the screen). The game (geometry, other
shaders) can be viewable of the part of the screen, which haven't displayed sky

If you mess the whole screen, then go back to main menu, and start a new game,
doesn't fix the problem. Only comlete game restart fixes it.
Only this repeats in console:

When executing launcher from terminal, and then trying to play, instead of

uninstalled and then reinstalled. Every other way, through icons and the
execute file to directly play the game, lead to the image linked.

I had wine up and kicking on Mac OS X Leopard, running most of what I wanted it
to. I had installed it like I read
(http://davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/), and was using version 1.0.1.
Then I upgraded to Snow Leopard and tried to run Perfect World.
Whenever I tried, it said something about my clock being wrong. I tried to fix
that but couldn't (I found information about tools/wine.inf but the only
wine.inf I found wasn't anywhere near a folder called tools and neither was it
modifiable), so I decided to just uninstall MacPorts and Wine and then
reinstall it.
So I did, and I used version 1.1.32.
It didn't work (and I'll tell you what soon).
I uninstalled it again and used the .dmg file available to see if it worked.
Same error.
"The program patcher.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close."
I use the launcher.exe, which then is supposed to run the patcher.exe.
Even if I try to run the patcher.exe itself, the error is the same.
Does anybody know whatever the problem is?
Thank you =D

Since the latest update (as at 11th November 09), the desktop or menu shortcut
to the WoW launcher removes all file permissions to the 'World of Warcraft'
folder in the Program Files directory. The launcher works the first time, but
is unusable after that.
It is easy to reinstate the permissions using chmod, or instead use the WoW.exe
file, however.

Edit Bundle adds new apps on a single click, not double click.
When adding an app bundle:
http://appdb.winehq.org/admin/editBundle.php (obviously this link won't do much
directly)
Single click adds the app to the bundle, but it states it should be a double
click.
"Application List (double click to add)"
Double click would definitely be preferred while there is no way to search the
apps (single click and typing "Google" for example, moves down to Google).
Hope that makes sense!

Hey Max!
Sorry disturbing you about this. I'm the guy testing Age Empires II through
your DIB Engine :) Long time since I last tested it, I know you've been very
busy these days. I just wanted to ask 2 things, for when you have a bit of
time:
1) Can you check on the possible colors bug mentioned in Comment #284, on the
current version of your DIB Engine? I think it may be related with the last
color bugs still remaining in Age Empires II...
2) On the next weeks, when you have a bit of time, can you check please on my
Comment #263? It may contain a possible solution for you to reproduce the mouse
lag slowdown bug on a newer computer like yours (the bug you couldn't
reproduce, remember?)
Thank you very much, best regards and gl on your work :)

1) Borland C++ 5.02 (the best ide in the 1990)
I have a directory s:\ which is mapped from \\myserver\src and its content is
all the source code C++
I can see it when I do:
wine cmd
s:
dir
but when bcw.exe (borland c++ 5.02 OK It s an old IDE but we use it) want to
compile these code, it doesn't find the file
then I copy/paste locally and then ln -s from /src which content all the codes
and then NO PROBLEM bcw compile and link and make the .exe!
It seem that an api use by some (old?) application to read/write file from
network drive would be not (yet?) implemented...
for summary
if s:\ is ln-s locally BCW find the code and compile it
if s:\ is ln-s of a samba links BCW don't find the code
the content of s:\ is STRICTLY the same (and chown/chmod also)
2) Oracle-7.3.3.2.0 (yes it is not the last oracle client ;) ) but we use it
when you choose a nt.prd who is in a network mapped drive, it can't read it
when you copy/paste locally, it work!
Thank to have read it

If the color depth of xorg is set to 16bpp in xorg.conf, mouse cursors in Wine
will be shown as pink color (which is incorrect) and the shadow below the
cursor is shown as twice as wide as normal and also in wrong color.
there is a message like this in console when launching any program with wine:
err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateBitmap Try to make bitmap with planes=1, bpp=32

As an update, I continue to work on a solution to this error. I have
successfully applied the above code to Wine-1.1.7. However, a change that was
instituted at some time causes the changed fonts in e-Sword to be overwritten
with a default font code. The patch will be worked through to the current Wine
development version before presentation as a final fix for consideration by AJ.

Summary: Perfect World: Corrupt Bitmap Images
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.59.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.perfectworld.com.my/downloads-client.asp
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: strntydog(a)gmail.com
The game Perfect world exhibits corrupted bitmap images for some icons, and
specifically the game map. Attached are some screen shots showing the
corruption.
I have run the logs extensively and nothing seems to coincide in the log with
the corruption.
I would have listed the bug as trivial, except it effects the map, which is
pretty major and makes navigating around the game tough. But it certainly
doesn't crash the game.
The bug LOOKS like some sort of image span problem, where the width of the
image is different to what wine is trying to draw. Or there is a gap between
rasters that should be skipped on each line and isn't. Leaves the images
looking torn.

This is a meta bug. It marks the lack of support, as documented by the "depends
on" bugs.
I'm afraid these are all coding bugs (and some of them of quite significant
features), and so, no, if you do not code, there is not much you can do.

Summary: X.org crash on libgl.so.1 upon exiting World of
Warcraft
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.32
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: opengl
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: vallidor(a)gangrenegang.com
Created an attachment (id=24583)

trace output - startup to final exit
With World of Warcraft on 1.1.32 (378-g416cd48) the game starts and runs nicely
enough, but upon exiting does one of two things:
a) crashes, creating two crash dialogues and posting a backtrace in the
terminal
or b) X.org spontaneously dies.
This leads me to think there's something broken under the hood of my NVidia
driver in respect to how this new version of Wine is working with it, or
previously stubbed calls between them are resolved, exposing the problem.
Trace attached, please post if you need additional information, along with some
layman instructions on how to get at it.
The '^C' on line 39 of the attachment is me Ctrl-C'ing to induce a kill to exit
the game from the initial login screen (I didn't actually load the "game" part
of the game, just as far as the Username/Password entry screen).
In the trace provided, X.org didn't crash, but World of Warcraft did, so
something went sour either way.
