Summary: Space bar doesn't work for "mantling"
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.23
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: michael(a)araneidae.co.uk
In Thief 2 and in System Shock 2 the space bar is used for "mantling", or
climbing onto a barrier -- in both these games it's necessary to hold the space
bar down until the maneuver is complete.
Unfortunately under wine this does not appear to work. My best guess is that
the "holding" of the space bar is somehow being interrupted at the API level.

Yep. Importing that key from XP, it gets a bit further, then complains it can't
find wineps.drv.

Well... It was a system freeze that only lasted seconds including crash of the
game. Rarely the system did not recover and I make use of a hardware reset.

Yes, I fear you were right. The crash occured with the
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-169.09 driver. I upgraded and now I am using the
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.14 driver and the problem disappeared.

You now have to jump through some hoops to get the exe. I eventually got hold
of it by visiting the site above and following the links to this location:

Appears to be fixed now, at least for me - version 1.1.26. The program does not
crash when I start it, and appears usable. Can someone confirm and close?

fixme:d3d_caps:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps Received unrecognized GL_VENDOR Tungsten
Graphics, Inc. Setting VENDOR_WINE.
You may want to use a driver that supports GL_EXT_framebuffer_object and
GL_EXT_framebuffer_blit. There are some D3D blits which are just slow in opengl
without those extensions and there is not much we can do about it.
Specifically, blitting with X and Y stretching to a texture that is bigger than
the framebuffer. (in case of ATI cards use the binary driver, not the open
source one)
These extensions are mostly a matter of implementing them in software.
Virtually any video card, even <= dx7 ones should be able to handle them.
Unfortunately fbo_blit is a fairly new extension, so cards which do not have an
actively maintained driver won't get it supported. In case of such old cards
I'm not really willing to invest much time into them either.

The integrated media player seems to have a problem (wine 1.1.25), it refused
to play any media file, being mp3 files or video files (tried several different
codecs) or even jpg images. A "media error: error 0x80004005" message appears
(error number is different according to media type)
In console appears:
err:quartz:GetClassMediaFile Media class not found

Installation now works perfectly in Wine 1.1.26. Running the game crashes with
a segfault. I'm going to attach a +relay log but I think the problem stems from
this part of it:
0009:Call KERNEL32.CreateFileA(0032fcac "C:\\Program
Files\\NFS/Global\\GlobalMemoryFile.bin",80000000,00000001,00000000,00000003,00000080,00000000)
ret=008df144
0009:Ret KERNEL32.CreateFileA() retval=ffffffff ret=008df144
There is no "Global" subdirectory (I installed to C:\Program Files\NFS)
although creating it manually doesn't help.

Using the tab method, the UI elements become and stay visible until the window
or parts of it are redrawn, e.g. by minimizing or using the context menu, which
results in a gray box where the context menu has been before.

Summary: some features for winepath to make it better work in
scripts
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.1
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: HoraK-FDF(a)gmx.de
Hi,
i'm currently working on a bash script that must handle DOS paths and so i
found some things that would make winepath better for scripts.
first thing:
If u have the DOS path C:\nop and convert it to unix style u get
/root/.wine/dosdevices/c:/nop but for some scripts you need the real mounted
path that would be in my case /mnt/C/nop. To get this done with bash i must cut
out the /root/.wine/dosdevices/c: make an REALPATH=$(df
/root/.wine/dosdevices/c: | cut -d ' ' -f 25) (REALPATH is than /mnt/C) and
combine it with the /nop that takes much time in bash if winepath can do this
by it self that would be a giant speed up, bound this to an option like -r
--realmountedpath or so would be great.
secound thing:
If a file lies on the dos dirve G:\file.nfo and the drive is assigned with
winecfg to ../dosdevices/k: winepath outputs ../dosdevices/g:/file.nfo witch
results to that the file cannot be found because its on
../dosdevices/k:/file.nfo. So you must have all drives exactly assigned like
the would appear on real DOS (G:\ = ../dosdevices/g:). This can be avoided with
checking the wine config, a option like -c --checkwinecfg would do it.
... greetings HoraK-FDF

There's not any secret pactches that fix this yet sorry. Bug 11846 is where I
was last investigating but this is almost certainly related. Tablet motion and
pressure events are being fired but they dont get propagated to the appropriate
window or we just arent sending the right event message that the context was
looking for and so then it does nothing.
The biggest help would be if anyone could write the appropriate parent child
owner message propagation tests so we can see where we are missing some of the
messages we need. If I ever get any free time I'll be on this, lately other
things keep blocking me from Wine :/
I'll post a patch to this bug or 11846 if I ever get something that even
remotely works.

The BindImageEx stub affects cx_Freeze, which also relies on that function to
find DLL dependencies.
Distribution: Gentoo 64-bit
Wine: 1.1.25, built from source via Gentoo's package manager, using mingw32-gcc
et al.
Python: 2.6.2 (http://python.org/ftp/python/2.6.2/python-2.6.2.msi)
cx_Freeze: 4.1
(http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/cx-freeze/cx_Freeze-4.1.win32-py2.6.msi?…)
The simple_cx_Freeze attachment contains a minimal example of this bug.
Using Windows:
1. python setup.py build
2. The build directory contains all non-system files neccessary to run the test
application, including python26.dll
Using Wine:
1. wine C:\\Path\\To\\Python\\python.exe setup.py build
2. The build directory contains all non-system files neccessary to run the test
application except python26.dll
During the build, there are many 'fixme:imagehlp:BindImageEx: ... stub'
messages.

PlayOnLinux - wine crash backtrace
I'm running Monkey Island 5, first episode, on PlayOnLinux. The game starts in
fullscreen at 1024x768 and is fully playable. Though, when I try to change
resolution or setting fullscreen on/off, wine crashes right after applying the
changes.
Here are my specs and a backtrace attached:
Kubuntu 9.04 i386
Linux 2.6.30-020630-generic
nVidia GeForce 9500 GT with nvidia drivers v185.18.14
PlayOnLinux 3.6 launching ToMI from a wine 1.1.25 prefix

I've been testing the demo for a few versions - the demo starts up and works
fine as 1.1.26 (and for many previous versions as per the AppDB).
Can we confirm and get it closed?

Sorry for the noise I'm just being stupid. Running from the current directory
gets the program to start. Please ignore the previous 2 comments.(In reply to

Sorry ignore this comment, and the one before that, the working directory
wasn't set. The menu screen loads on 1.1.25 but I can't try any further coz I
have no 3D acceleration at the moment (on Karmic) I'll switch to a different
GPU and try again later.

In 1.1.25 the game installs but doesn't run. It looks like it fails here
creating a file called masters.ctl which then leads to an exception:

On windows, try running:
'notepad foo.txt'
You'll get a dialog saying it doesn't exist, and offering to create it.
Options:
Yes - Creates and opens foo.txt
No - Opens notepad with an empty file
Cancel - Closes notepad, not creating any files.
On wine, you just get Yes/No.
Side note:
Choosing yes shouldn't automatically append .txt to it, e.g., running 'notepad
foo' and choosing yes should have notepad create a file named 'foo', not
'foo.txt'.

Using RegCleaner 4.3, Build 780 is impossible because of different memory
access violations and wine assertion failures (see bug 19046).
Attached wine log demonstrates one of these failures.
It's hard to reproduce this exactly same way because of random memory access
violations (which makes this report almost senseless, I understand) but general
recommendation is to play around with list in the program's main window and
operate with menu only (!) using keyboard shortcuts.

Whenever I start playing the game, it crashes after a while (usually during
crating of the Sim). Best way to force the crash is fast changing of sim's
clothes. I tried lowest and hughest graphic settings, always same behaviour.
The crash has no specific reason, I just get those 3 fixmes in some "random"
order during the whole sim creation:
fixme:imm:ImmGetOpenStatus (0x148010): semi-stub
fixme:d3d9:IDirect3DDevice9Impl_GetRenderTarget Call to
IWineD3DDevice_GetRenderTarget failed
fixme:d3d_surface:surface_load_ds_location (0x1770c8) Not supported with fixed
up depth stencil
No error after crash, The Sims just close itself. It also has the same
behaviour with reloaded, razor1911 and appdb nocd patch. It might be bug in the
game, not in Wine, I really don't know.

The Accuracy Center is a drop-down menu item that opens a box (that requires
gecko, which installs correctly). The Accuracy Center box contains options to
allow the user to do additional training, and several other functions. It would
improve long-term accuracy if a couple of its functions worked. Right now it
just crashes when you open it.
I think it's an oleacc error, but that's just a guess based on the following:
wine: Call from 0x7b8458b0 to unimplemented function
oleacc.dll.ObjectFromLresult, aborting
I'll try to send you a screenshot of Accuracy Center right before it crashes.
version: wine-1.1.6-170-gf151180
If you are thinking of prioritizing this, bug 15534 should come first because
that makes the whole program crash.

When running either Starcraft (any version) or Diablo II (any version,
including Lord of Destruction), the intros play fine with the default ALSA
configuration, but once the actual game is loaded, all sound functionality
ceases. The broken sound continues even if one exits and returns back to the
main menu, which has no issues when the programs are first run.
However, if one runs the same wine command with "aoss" prepended, everything
works fine.
I would include more information, but the wine output does not seem to be very
helpful. It seems others are having this problem as well:

When I run Fallout 2 the cursor from X (ie the cursor I'm using in my WM)
remains on the screen. This cursor seems to be only part of "screen image"
because it doesn't move and it doesn't affect game cursor in any way.
System is Arch Linux (X server 1.6.1, graphics drivers are nvidia 185.18.04).
I've tried git-bisect because I knew that it worked with 1.1.19. I've not been
able to track it even when I've used 1.1.18 as good.
This makes me think that the problem is somewhere in communication with new
xserver (I've used Xorg server 1.5.3). Unfortunately I don't know if the
problem is in wine or in xserver.

The previous tip about editing was crucial but actually in my case it was
enough to edit TDR2000.gfx and change the 4th line from value 4294967295 to 0.
And
then the setup (TDR2000.exe -s) should work as expected (ie. allow you to
choose video settings for HW acceleration).

Probably this is unrelated problem that needs separate bugzilla entry (this bug
is total system freeze on old hardware).
In my experience, there is a lot of general instability with newer nvidia cards
in Linux that seem driver-related. For example, I also get system freeze if I
start X, exit X, start X again. Also, with some driver versions, I've been
having lots of weird crashes and issues in Wine's own 3d testcase suite,
especially when OffscreenRenderingMode=fbo is set (and it's now set by default)
and especially in such usage scenarios that some of those tests use and also
games like Thief happen to use. That problem is specific to moments when video
mode is initialized or reset, like Thief does when you go from game to main
menu, notes or map and back to game. So I would advise trying some other
OffscreenRenderingMode settings (info on tweaking these paramters is here:
http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys). Also changing video drivers from
nvidia may do something - they seem to constantly fix and break things there,
after last driver update I think I currently do not get those fbo-related
crashes any more, but I do get some others :D.

We are using meeting maker installation. Client is version 8.6.2 for windows.
When using protocol TCP the server is discovered and sign in works properly.
When using protocol ssl the server is discovered but when trying to sign in we
get the following error message :
Could not sign in bc the server spl was not found.
We run into this problem under Ubuntu 7.10 32 bit (no firewall) and Fedora Core
7 64 bit. The ubuntu machine was a dual boot machine. When running the same
meeting maker client in Windows XP, both tcp and ssl worked.
In my understanding, the server discovery uses the udb port while the ssl
connection uses the ssl port.

Summary: MSI installation failure causes installer hang...
Product: Wine

Platform: PC
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: msi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: toonces282002(a)yahoo.com
On a Windows box, if an install fails (say a service fails to start because of
a missing dll), normally MSI would roll back the installation. Meaning that it
would try as best it can to put things back the way they were before the
install started.
On ReactOS, none of this happens. The GUI sort of freezes, and no longer
responds in any way to anything. I can kill msiexec from the task manager, but
that doesn't fix the underlying problem.
I realize that it would probably be hard to fully implement rollback, but I
wanted to make sure that it was on the radar so that it eventually got done.
I don't have a good testcase handy right now, unfortunately..

Wine 1.1.23 is somewhat better, it will install ok, but then fails the same way
downloading content. It seems to be able to download tiny files, but anything
of size crashes.
As I said, 1.1.20 was *perfect*. Backing-out to 1.1.20 fixes all issues.

LotRO is pretty heavy on the disk i/o on startup and I did notice that I got
the crash most of the time after a reboot and a login into the 21st hall. This
is basicly how I did the regression test plus zoning a lot (21st to zirakzigi
to 21st to shadowed refuge back to 21st) to verify bisect good or bad :) Slow
but I could find not other way to make it happen.
There is no real error in the normal wine logs but if I need to run it with a
diffrent WINEDEBUG just say which one.
Anyways, this is where regression test ended and so far I can play perfectly
with 1.1.25

The bug is the fact that this message *DOES* come up in most applications.
Why don't we simply write the missing stub?
I hate reading this line thousand of times in my wine stdout logs.
If the message is useful to developers, go fix what's missing.
Otherwise remove the message.

My thanks go out to Rein Klazes and all others who contributed
information toward resolving this problem. I wouldn't have known where to start
if I hadn't been pointed toward manipulation of the environment variables.
Rein is right when he says that I am using the KDE desktop. Gnome may
require some different environment variables. Nevertheless, if I recall
correctly, it was by including the HOME=$HOME that I overcame problems with BCS
hanging after complaining that it could not find certain files.

Glad also to hear that my suggestion in comment #10 proved right.
With the other application that I mentioned Seed Master, unsetting LS_COLORS is
enough here Gnome environment. For the user that was reporting the problem it
was not by far. He was using KDE, with lots more environmental variables.
BTW, for me to run Seed Master with minimal environment, I have to use:
env -i PATH=$PATH DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY wine SMW.EXE
If there are spaces in the paths involved it would be safer to use quotes:
env -i PATH="$PATH" DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY="$XAUTHORITY" wine SMW.EXE

Hi Dan,
It is true that LS_COLORS is a very large variable. I don't remember
every combination I tried, but it seems to me that I did try eliminating only
LS_COLORS and still had problems with lack of space in the environment.
With the three variables PATH, DISPLAY, and HOME as the only ones set, I
find that the BCS program runs without showing any ill effects for lack of
other environment variables.
Regards,
David

(In reply to comment #29)
> Is this still an issue in current (1.1.25 or newer) wine?
David Moore here who began this thread:
I finally resolved this on my Linux system and have Bible Companion
Series and its Gramcord functions running under Wine.
Since this was mainly a process of trial and error I may not remember
exactly every step, but I will post the most important matters and hope that
others may get their BCS and Gramcord up and running with Wine as well.
First of all, it is necessary to come up with an environment (speaking of
the computer operating system environment of course) under which BCS has room
to run. Through trial and error, I found that the minimum environment
variables which are needed are PATH, DISPLAY, and HOME. I was able to create
this reduced environment for BCS by prefixing the command that opens the BCS
program with the following code: env -i PATH=$PATH DISPLAY=$DISPLAY HOME=$HOME
If you want to understand some basics about the env command try this:
$ env --help
The help message explains that the env command with the -i variable following
creates an empty environment for the program being initiated. The addition of
PATH=$PATH DISPLAY=$DISPLAY HOME=$HOME reestablishes only these three values to
the environment under which BCS will run. This got me past the problem of "not
enough space in local heap."
I had copied my BCS directory from my Windows partition to
/home/my_username/.wine/drive_c, so my complete command line for starting BCS
under Wine was as follows:
$ env -i PATH=$PATH DISPLAY=$DISPLAY HOME=$HOME /usr/bin/wine "C:\bcs\Bcs.exe"
I did this from the command line and did not set up an icon on the desktop
until later, since working from the command line is a better way to read the
feedback.
Using this command did get me past the "not enough space in local heap,"
but the program soon hung again. Reading in the command window the steps that
the program had taken, I saw that a certain dll file was being requested by the
program. I located this file and copied it into the
/home/my_username/.wine/drive_c/bcs directory, and registered it with Wine
using the Wine utility that helps with dll files (sorry I don't recall the
utility program's name right now). This helped, but there were still minor
bugs.
I added a number of other dll files from different places. One which was
specifically called for in the feedback from the command window I was not able
to find on my Windows partition, so I located it on the Internet, copied it to
my Wine BCS directory and registered it with Wine using the utility mentioned
above. So now it works.
At one point in this process, after I had figured out the necessary
environment for BCS, I did an install under Wine from a Gramcord for Windows CD
(Series 1E). I don't know whether or not this affected the outcome.
When I put an icon on my desktop to start BCS, the command I used was as
follows:
env -i PATH=$PATH DISPLAY=$DISPLAY HOME=$HOME /usr/bin/wine "C:\bcs\Bcs.exe"
In the "Work path" space I put the following:
/home/my_username/.wine/drive_c/bcs
If you use these command lines, be sure that the capitalization of letters and
the filenames in all repects correspond to what you have in your
/home/your_username/.wine directory.
I can give no guarantees that what has worked for me will definitely work
on your system. But I recommend it as a way that I got my BCS-Gramcord program
up and running.
All the best,
David Moore

Is this still an issue in current (1.1.25 or newer) wine?

Summary: Mozilla firefox: hard to minimize (dogfood)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.25
Platform: PC
URL: http://getfirefox.com
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Keywords: download, source
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: austinenglish(a)gmail.com
With firefox 3.5, run it as normal. Now, try to minimize it. It will pretend to
go to the tray, but then restore itself, without focus. If you try to minimize
it again without restoring focus, then it will minimize properly. But if it
regains focus (clicking anything other than minimize/close/maximize icons),
then minimize, the bug reappears.
Minor, but annoying.

Created an attachment (id=16677)

This area was not redrawn.
During race, Colin McRae Rally 2.0 draws neither road nor other
background (see attached picture), i.e. the game is unplayable.
This affects both the commercial and the demo version, available from
http://downloads.gamezone.com/demosfiles/t1582.htmhttp://cdn.gamezone.com/pub/gamezone/16/0/86/cmr2pcdemo.zip
This may be a driver issue. I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 with the Intel XOrg
video driver.
This could as well be a "Wine's DirectX6 not good enough" issue.
The in-game graphics selection menu displays no other "choice" than
"DirectDraw HAL", i.e. only DirectX6 is recognized.
Indeed, during install, a requester says "your machine is not ... for
DirectX7". The DirectX7a installer is distributed with the game.
So this could be a DirectX7 detection issue.
Alas, the game's configuration (Configuration/*.rcf) is a binary file, so I
cannot change the graphics driver.
Default trace output is attached. It contains a lot of
fixme:d3d_surface:surface_convert_format Cannot find a conversion function from
format WINED3DFMT_DXT5 to WINED3DFMT_A4R4G4B4
with XxYx16bit or
fixme:d3d_surface:surface_convert_format Cannot find a conversion function from
format WINED3DFMT_DXT5 to WINED3DFMT_A8R8G8B8
with a XxYx32bit resolution setting.
Could that be related to the missing background?
