Take a look at the RCC instruction defined in GL_NV_vertex_program1_1 . It has
some interesting language concerning this bug. We can't use this instruction in
our ARB shaders as-is, but the spec may provide some hints.

I can also confirm that installing msttcorefonts works around this bug, as
comment #101 suggested. My test was on ubuntu 9.04 x64 with wine 1.0.1.
Presumably this bug is caused by incomplete fonts in wine; if free alternatives
can't be found perhaps it could at least be modified in a way that doesn't
cause crashes?

Ubuntu 9.04 64bit. Wine package from your winehq ubuntu repository.
When I run winecfg for the first time, i reports a backtrace and a pops a
window that wineboot.exe has encountered an error. After 30sec the winecfg
window finally appears. I can't edit Disks tab, because "failed to connect to
the mount manager".
Running winecfg for further times, sometimes it is fast and sometimes it again
waits 30sec. The traceback doesn't appear again though. I still can't edit
Disks tab.
It complains something about libGL.so.1, so maybe this can help:
$ ls -l /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2009-04-30 22:19 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 ->
libGL.so.180.51
I have tried wine 1.0.1 from official Ubuntu repository, same problem, but I
can edit Disks tab.

When using the Yamaha File Utility v1.1.0 the only way to add files to the list
is drag and drop. This does not work with Wine, dragging from Ubuntu 9.04
Linux Nautilus 2.26.2.
It also does not work when trying to drag a file from Wine file manager
(winefile). Winefile's File menu has a "In clipboard..." option, but this
displays a message "Not yet implemented".

I could confirm the bug with the test file running wine's notepad on wine
(wine-1.1.20-108-g445567e).
Running winxp's notepad on wine crashes, too.
Running wine's notepad on windows could at least load the file without
problems.
PS:
wine's notepad (and wordpad) have a limitation on 32K chars in a document. You
couldn't put more in it (regardless if they are in one line or not). But this
could also be another problem. But you could load much more from a file.

Hello,
if that feature is not abused it would be useful - at least for the "summary"
field (maybe a user group with limited rights).
There are lots of bugs where the summary field is just awful and doesn't
reflect the nature of the bug at all or is simply wrong (not up-to-date).
In the past I wrote "change summary to ..." hints for bugs I don't own but it
wasn't recognized for all hence don't give that hint anymore.
If such badly worded bug is linked to one of the appdb entries I manage, I
write a short explanation because of that awful summary and to acknowledge the
fact that people don't want to read the whole bug history.
Regards

There is a version of Starforce Protection for Linux and Mac:
http://www.star-force.com/press_room/news/index.php?news=2404 -- would it be
possible to take the version for Linux and Mac, figure out how it works, and
then use this in order to create an alternative to protect.dll?

I think I got something: If I'm not mistaken, the crash comes from the fact the
program (or wine?) releases the palette before the surface is released.
I made a patch (for wine 1.1.19) which checks if the palette is attached to a
surface and removes it from the surface before releasing it. With that patch
Dungeon Keeper works fine (Actually I haven't tested the network, but the rest
is fine).

No response, and that's probably something we don't want. There are plenty of
triagers to handle this.

Summary: Cannot recreate "configure" script
Product: Wine
Version: 20050930
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: build-env
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: contact(a)philipashmore.com
I'm trying to create a paired-down version of Wine that contains only the
registry and COM framework (no GUI) from Wine.
I'm calling this project "v3c-com" for want of a better name, and it's purpose
is to act as a development framework/runtime for COM development under
GNU/Linux, ideally with DCOM interoperability with Windows.
As a first step I modified the configure.ac script:
1. package name change
2. remove configure arguments
3. remove programs and dll targets
4. Recreate "configure" - but how?
I tried just deleting the "configure" script and running tools/wineinstall...
$ tools/wineinstall
Wine Installer v1.0
Running configure...
configure: error: cannot find sources (server/atom.c) in . or ..
Configure failed, aborting install.
I've indented the output for readability.
Let me repeat - I deleted "configure" so what's tools/wineinstall running???
I also tried running automake, but it's giving bizarre messages - probably
because aclocal.m4 isn't generated by autoconf, but it's just a guess.

Thanks Dan, that matches with my opinion. Going so far as disassembling is
theft, just like it would be taking source code from someone. I do not see an
issue with looking at documentation of interfaces that are released or open to
the public by the people or standards board that created them.

It's ok to look at anything that can be seen in a conformance test
or in a +relay log. It's just disassembling (or otherwise looking
at the bytes of) microsoft binaries that is dangerous, I think.

The access violation is not related to the missing dll, and you could probably
just download the missing dll, as installing DirectX might break things...
Since i see this bug isn't fixed yet, i will retry today and post logs. It
would be nice to find the origin of this problem. I also see now it doesn't
start at all...

There is noo need for that, the process will die shortly.
Regarding shell32 vs. shdocvw: the real progman DDE implementation is
in shell32, what shdocvw most likely does is just a forward of the DDE
initializer entry point to shell32. Please don't look how native explorer
does things, that's not allowed for Wine development.

I would like an automatic umount/remount of the floppy drive to install windows
programs from multiple floppies.
I installed Quicken 4 in wine. The installation stopped with the 2nd floppy.
The Quicken installer was looking for the 2nd floppy but got stuck with the
reference from the first one.
To bypass the bug, I launched a terminal, typed
" umount /media/floppy ; mount /media/floppy "
between each floppy exchange and then press enter in wine to continue the
process.
Quicken uses labels on floppies to maintain the installation order.

I also still stand by thinking
+ if ((shell32 = LoadLibraryA( "shell32.dll" )) &&
+ (pShellDDEInit = (void *)GetProcAddress( shell32, (LPCSTR)188)))
+ {
+ pShellDDEInit( TRUE );
+ }
should be
+ if ((shdocvw = LoadLibraryA( "Shdocvw.dll" )) &&
+ (pShellDDEInit = (void *)GetProcAddress( shdocvw, (LPCSTR)118)))
+ {
+ pShellDDEInit( TRUE );
+ }
to be closer to what shell applications (like explorer) actually do.

Dmitry, any reason why you don't ShellDDEInit(False) after the desktop message
loop exits? This is nearly identical to my patch from Feb 09 (not the original
for this, but with changes you suggested).

Yes, all it does is have explorer initialize the shell32 interface. The
handlers in shell32 are not actually complete. It's just the first step in the
journey & I've been too occupied with work and remodeling a room into a nursery
to work on patches.

Approach scroll wheel inactive
Hi All,
I am am the OP on 15088. Now that I can actually get into Approach, I have
been using it all day. I have five bugs to report. (I am presuming you want
them on different reports.) I am running the native msvcrt.
sh -c "cd /home/wine/drive_c/lotus/approach; WINEDEBUG=+loaddll
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=msvcrt=n /usr/local/bin/wine ./approach.exe"
Bug number two: the scroll wheel is totally ignored (works in all other Linux
apps.). It is a real pain in the neck.
To reproduce:
1) open Approach with the native msvcrt
2) open a database
3) try to use the scroll wheel
Here is a sample database to play with:

It is also worth noting that I have wine version 1.1.15 in my Fedora 10 system
so version 1.1.2 is somewhat old compared to the current version.

It is worth noting that the Crossover Office team will soon be releasing
Crossover 8.0 and in this new version the Equation Editor works in Office 2003.
Presumably the knowledge about how this was resolved will feed back into Wine
and will then become a fix for this bug.

Attempting to use the thesaurus in Word 2003 brings up an error message saying
that Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. The dialog asks if I
want to send an error report to Microsoft; if I click to send the report, it
seems to do it. The dialog box also has the option to recover my work and
restart Word, and if I leave it checked, Word does restart and reload the
document. If I uncheck it, Word just shuts down. I'm attaching the last 100k

please let me know.

Summary: SOCKS is broken
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.19
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: winsock
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: cankoy(a)ymail.com
SOCKS is broken as of 1.1.19.
Freecap no longer socksifies the apps registered to it; i.e. the connections
are direct (not thru the SOCKS server defined).
This problem also exists in 1.1.20.
To repeat:
1. Install Freecap (Sockscap does not work under Wine)
2. Set a Socks5 server as proxy in Freecap settings (tor will do)
3. Socksify "iexplore.exe" to a website that shows your IP address, like
http://displayip.net
4. Under Wine 1.1.19/20, you see your own IP address, whereas under 1.1.18 the
proxy address is shown.

latest version of Wine does not require the patched DLLs or Direct X.
It needs only the D3D9_* files and renders fine on ATI with the latest drivers.
The only thing that does not work is the textures in the Bazaar.

Yes, some minor differences (to whit: using the nvidia opengl drivers I now get
an immediate new error dialog on start rather than anything else, and
fullscreen no longer works at all, but that may well be due to a change in my X
configuration; I haven't had time to look into it deeply). But the fundamental
behaviour is the same: using the "xorg-x11" (i.e. mesa/software) opengl drivers
and windowed mode, the game seems to be working well, except that the
characters are not visible.

Probably a regression between 1.1.19 and 1.1.20 which slowed down Lotus Notes
6.5.5 for a task like resolving an email address.
If I type in "firstname lastname" followed by a comma into the "To." field of a
new mail, it takes usually 1 second with wine-1.1.19 to get the full Lotus
Notes Email address. With wine-1.1.20 it takes up to 20 or 30 seconds.
Furthermore it seems that it needs much longer to open the mailbox database or
to create the window of a new email (even w/ using the local replic).

The Log-Output of the complete build process
I try to build the latest git branch from scratch but the build fails after
some time.
It somehow tries to link 32bit objects with 64bit objects:
/usr/bin/ld: Relocatable linking with relocations from format elf32-i386
(activeds_main.o) to format elf64-x86-64 (activeds.gZarxo.o) is not supported
To build it I used the gentoo ebuild wine-9999. I believe the configuration is
wrong, but could someone shed some light on it? It worked fine a few months
ago.

Screenshot of problem while video playing
History Of The Universe is a university application as part of the S197
package.
Upon loading, the whole screen blacks out and redraws twice, then the window
loads.
If the window is moved, when navigating through the links or when a video is
playing, the whole window turns black (except the video). Moving the cursor
over the links redraws them, but it will go black again if any of the above is
repeated.
The app attempts to show photos and graphs while the videos are playing, but
they all appear black.
HOTU requires Quicktime and installs version 5 as part of the installation.
Tried with version 7.2 but the problem is the same.
Not sure what traces would be relevant here.

Summary: Latest version of "Publish or Perish" die with wine
sxs.dll
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.15
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: scallegari(a)arces.unibo.it
Latest versions of "Publish or Perish", namely 2.6.something (see
http://www.harzing.com/pop.htm), cannot be installed on wine.
Former versions, namely 2.5.something used to be installable just fine.
Problem may be either in PoP (i.e., new versions installers use features of
windows that are not supported in wine) or in wine itself (namely wine might
not be able anymore to run the PoP installer). In the latter case we would be
facing a regression.
Problem is limited to the wine implementation of sxs.dll.
Using a native sxs.dll PoP installs.
Once PoP is installed it runs even if the native sxs.dll is removed.
This would be nice to fix because the PoP site greatly advertises wine, so it
is a shame that the positive feeling about wine that the site communicates gets
immediately spoilt by the broken installer.

As mentioned in comment 15, this patch isn't going in to master. There's a
vertex program-based fixed function vertex pipeline replacement is floating
around, but needs work from someone with time and vertex pipeline knowledge to
bring it up to speed, and also some cleaning up from someone with wineD3D
knowledge.

This bug seems to have appeared in Wine 1.0. As I couldn't find a bug for this
eye-catching drawing error in the database, I think it might have something to
do with my setup:
I'm using Ubuntu/hardy and tried all precompiled binaries of the Wine 1.1.x

My graphics card is a ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 and I'm using the driver radeon

As far as I can tell "Drakan: Order of the Flame" just uses a CD check.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Drakan
2. Start the game from either the command line or via the Autorun.exe on the CD
3. Attempt to start a new game from the menu
Expected Results:
Game should proceed to the the introduction and onto the first level.
Actual Results:
Message pops up about inserting the Drakan CD.
Workarounds:
Install patch 445 which removes the cd check.
While the workaround does work, wine should be able to handle a standard CD
check. I will look further into seeing if it is in fact some copy protection
scheme that I haven't managed to detect.

Test case output, source code
Call CreateNamedPipe with FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED and PIPE_ACCESS_INBOUND, then do
a ReadFile after someone has connected (in this case, just a CreateFile in the
same thread). Now this read would normally return fine, if we just waited for
the data to appear, however, if for whatever reason we have to stop waiting,
i.e. using a CancelIO call, then the CancelIO returns false on Wine. It returns
true on Windows. The problem is not with CancelIO, but rather with
NtCancelIoFile, as the attached test case will show. (NtCancelIoFile should
return 0 on Wine -- as it does on Windows -- instead it returns 192, which
confuses the CancelIO and makes it return false.) Please do not patch CancelIO
to just map the 192 to a true, this is not right! The problem is with
NtCancelIoFile (or somewhere within it).

I guess this is why the background goes black during gameplay with Red Alert 3?
I did notice a message saying "Adapter out of memory" or something like that at

Hello,
--- quote ---
Status?
I got similar Problems with an installer
--- quote ---
Just check corresponding appdb entries for current status, I tend to keep
everything up-to-date.
The reason is either there are no resources for fixing or the bug's importance
is considered low (questionable).
But you are not alone ... there are a couple of msi bugs open for some time now
I consider major (including regressions) - you have to live with it.
You could try to fix it by yourself - all bugs contain enough analysis/hints to
produce a workable patch along with conformance test.
Regards

like 10 MB in 5 seconds, so how much do you really want?

Max, you are correct. It is possible to redock them, although still hard on
some toolbars that do not include separators. I agree that the Titlebar is also
wrong, but there does need to be a bar(I believe it is commonly referred to as
a minibar).
I've read with many toolkits/GUI, that the Desktop Environment may have control
over this, and can choose to ignore certain window hints/flags if it pleases.
Is it possible that this is the case here also? I use KDE and also get the
fullsize Titlebar.

This bug is only about the install issue. I should have put
parentheses around the runtime issues; they're really
a different bug that deserves their own report(s).

Hello,
so what feature/problem of what of the executables are you referring to?
You're mixing different issues and it's not clear what you are trying to
achieve.
--- quote ---
Unfortunately, it seems to require WBEM (see bug 16882 for that; although I've
followed the recipe there, I still haven't gotten winsat to output anything).
--- quote ---
Installation of WMICore 1.5 won't work as of now because Wine isn't capable to
build the correct tokens for services yet.
You will only mess your WINEPREFIX up.
I quickly tested with my own patch for bug 16882 and the app at least shows the
main GUI - though not really usable due to mshtml insufficiencies.
That winsat console tool also works with WMI installed - though every limited

The installer requires msxml6, which we don't provide, so I think
we should consider this an msxml bug.
More direct download URL:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/3/9/239542d5-9ad1-4af4-97e9-0762d5…
Installation recipe:
winetricks msxml6 dotnet11
or
winetricks msxml6 dotnet20
then
wine msiexec /i WindowsVistaUpgradeAdvisor.msi
The app won't run, but you can at least get winsat.exe to run;
it uses console output, so it runs into that nasty situation
where console output is invisible and non-redirectable,
you have to do
wineconsole cmd
and then inside the wine console,
winsat -help
to get info about what it can do. For instance,
winsat features
Unfortunately, it seems to require WBEM (see bug 16882
for that; although I've followed the recipe there,
I still haven't gotten winsat to output anything).

Yes, problem persists :(
I want to add that using the "working" EXE file, I too have been able to play
the game properly... more or less. Still crashes every six screens or so
(sometimes even more often, although due to the quicksave feature, that's not
that big a problem). CD changing does _not_ work, regretfully.

Yes, i allready told that Jeff...but that only happens when you set in the
VIDEO options the option "TERRAIN" to anything above "Low"...if it's set to
"low" the black holes are not present....notice that most important thing about
this patch, that it really solves, was the fact that w/o it , in wine versions
above 1.1.4, as soon as you repawn or was severely injured , no matter the
settings you end up with screen with a happearance like in comment # 3 and
similar.
This new patch solves once and for all that problem...

Summary: Entered IP address rejected as invalid by a program

Hi!
I'm trying to upgrade firmware of a Linksys VoIP gateway. There is a windows
binary for this purpose, which communicates with the gateway.
The program starts normally and asks for IP address of the gateway to be
upgraded. A dialog appears with a line and three dots in it to separate the
octets. Clicking into the line to place the cursor causes wine to emit the
following single line to the console:
err:ipaddress:IPADDRESS_GetPartIndex We subclassed the wrong window!
(hwnd=0x1003a)
There are visually no problems with entering the address. However, clicking
on OK in the dialog to submit the entered IP address emits the same wine
message again, and the program immediately responds with a small dialog saying
"Invalid IP address". I didn't find any way to work this problem around, so I
cannot use the program and upgrade my gateway :-(.
I cannot upload the binary of the upgrader because of its copyright; however,
I think I can send a single copy to a person which would eventually work on
this bug.
With regards, Pavel Troller

A small new bug...the sideway "white ghost" ! :))
When choosing overall quality to high BUT replacing resolution of it to
1280x1024, this is what happens....with resolution fo 1280x1024 and OQ set to
medium also happens....notice that with overal quality set to low at 1280x1024
DOESN'T happen and also doesn't happen with OQ set to medium or high and
resolution set to 800x600.
To be honest i'm not too worried with this bug (yet) because finally this last
patch solved all transparent ground problems in any circunstances including
respwn, etc. and this bug doesn't show with oq set to low which is the way
game plays faster anyway....what i really wanted now, if possible, was to get
rid of those black spots/lines in all quality settings and black holes in
ground textures (it's the first setting about textures in the menu (top option
about textures) that triggers the black holes) everytime that it's set above
low...and to know if patch is compatible with wine 1.1.20 :D

OK, i mannaged to apply the patch to WINE 1.1.19 and now the ingame graphics
are as good as with version 1.1.4 , w/o the need for any extra dlls and w/
cursors working (which wasn't true for 1.1.4) :)
Only thing( just like with version 1.1.4) is the black holes if you try ground
textures above low and the random dots and black lines that i posted a pic show
of version 1.1.4 are still present...but now we can die/respawn w/o problems
finally :)
I notice that there is a new wine 1.1.20, does it needs also this patch, and if
so, is this patch compatible with it or we will need a new version for wine
1.1.20 ?
TIA,

Screendump #1
I have purchased an old windows program that is intended for the training of
people handicapped with afasia. The program is written in (some) BASIC and runs
on anything from Windows98 and higher. It runs nicely with Wine, except for one
thing: The program displays images and these are most of the time not visible,
or flicker quickly before disappearing.
The program can be dowloaded from http://www.desmidt.eu/digitaal.html (click
on "Klik hier om de complete versie gratis te downloaden").
Install the program as usual and start it up (you need to be in the directory
where the program is installed, most likely .wine/drive_c/Program
Files/DigitAal).
Click on "Oefeningen op woordniveau" and "Benoemen".
You see something similar to Screendump #1.
The big grey area should show an image of a chicken. The grey area below should
contain the text "k . ." (where the name of the object is to be filled in). The
right grey area should show a star.
When the window has been obscured by another window, the non-obscured parts
appear, as can be seen in Screendump #2.
Also, when I move around the window, the image of the chicken appears. The "k .
." and star still do not show.

dragothic low detail test run
I don't know when this error started but I can remember wine rendering these
textures long time ago but now I noticed that they aren't. I don't see anything
in log that seems like related to this but attached log when only running the
Dragothic test.

Patch for listview.c ranges_assert
This patch fixes a small glitch in listview.c which causes a
warn:dpa:not enough pointers in array (0 vs 0)
warning from DPA_GetPtr.
It happens when LISTVIEW_DeselectAllSkipItem creates an empty range
and then calls ranges_additem to add one item to the range.
ranges_additem calls ranges_add which calls
ranges_check(ranges, "before add"), effectively calling ranges_assert.
And ranges_assert calls DPA_GetPtr(ranges->hdpa, 0), accessing the
first element in the empty range, which triggers the warning.
Here is a patch without whitespace changes to make it more readable,
the proper patch is in the attachment:

Summary: Ventrilo 3.0.4 won't initialize GSM 6.10 codec stream
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.15
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: msadp32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: willw(a)litany.me.uk
Ventrilo 3.0.4 with wine-1.1.15 is no longer able to use the GSM 6.10 audio
codec. Speex codec still works.
Pop-up dialogue box contains:
----8<----
Failed to get encoder for specified Codec.
Unable to initialize outbound codec (GSM 6.10 - 22 KHz, 16 bit): Unable to open
codec stream. Code = 512
----8<----
git-bisect shows that the offending commit is 'wine-1.1.14-384-gc262d5b'
(msadp32: ADPCM allows other sample rates other than 8000, 11025, 22050 and
44100.)
To reproduce without connecting to a server, bring up the Setup dialog, select
the 'GSM 6.10' codec in the 'Test with' section, and click the 'Test' button.

My WINE version is wine-1.1.11-49-g028617b, but it happened in previous
releases too. I am running in Windows XP mode, although it doesn't work in
Win98 either.
Using
winetricks msi2
Doesn't help, unfortunately (at least, I think it's due to a bug in MSI).
Cheers, and Merry Christmas!

Summary: Homeworld 2 Patch (homeworld2_update_en_10_11.exe) to
v1.1: crash during setup
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.4
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: moralapostel(a)gmail.com
When running "wine homeworld2_update_en_10_11.exe" the setup always crashes
while copying "C:\Program Files\EULA.txt". Wine then completly locks up.
Tested with wine 1.1.4, 1.1.6 and clean .wine folder.
Additional observation: Killing "HW2Patch.exe" seems to somewhat resume the
patching process, but this can't be too good...
