Crash output from winedbg
Cannot run the program LaTeXPiX in wine 1.1.6. (I did not check if it works for
lower versions). When run, wine terminates with no output. When run with
winedbg an error is printed pointing to an error. This output is attached.
LaTeXPiX is an wysiwyg editor for creating images usable in LaTeX. The program
can be downloaded from:
http://home.tiscali.nl/nickvanbeurden/latexpix.htm
I tried using versions build 3233 and build 3198 of LaTeXPiX, and both had the
same problem.

ReportedBy: wickedsmoke(a)users.sf.net
Every few seconds the game will freeze and and the screen will be overwritten
with a random solid color starting from the top. This clearing of the screen
happens slowly, over the course of a few seconds, and you can see as the bitmap
is erased one scanline at a time. After the screen is cleared, the display
will refresh and the game will run normally for a few seconds. This repeats
continually.
This occurs with Wine 1.1.4 and 1.1.6. The game runs fine under Wine 1.1.2.
No other versions were tested.
This occurs in Fedora & Kubuntu (both x86_64) using NVidia drivers. No other
systems were tested.

Hi All,
Cent OS 5.2
Wine: 1.1.5
Lotus Word Pro: N98.1.8913.0 and N99.8.0208.0800
This only happens in tables. If I enter a number in a cell and leave the cell,
the number gets reformatted with ".." in the middle of it.
For example:
22 --> 2..2
44 --> 4..4
4444 --> 4..4
1000 --> 1. (not a typo, nothing after the ".")
Very frustrating.
An accidential test: in Wine, I pulled up a Windows' create file with a
huge table in it. I "save as'ed" the file under a new name before I
realized all the numbers had been reformatted. Then I opened it in Windows
to see what damage had been wrought upon my new file. It came out perfect
in Windows.
I live and die by tables. I really, really need this fixed. Please
let me know if there is anything I can do to assist in the troubleshooting.
Many thanks,
-T

Hi All,
When opening a file for editing, whose file name contains spaces, with
Lotus Word Pro 9.8.0208.1300, Word pro sees each segment of the file
name as a separate file.
For instance, if you open "my new file", Word Pro sees it as
file 1: my
file 2: new
file 3: file
To reproduce:
1) start word pro
2) file-->open
3) browse to a file with spaces in it
Please fix. (Nag, Nag, Nag.)
Additional info:
1) note pad plus's file open works correctly with spaces
2) the Word Pro file browse windows looks dramatically different that
it does in native Windows

Summary: Stronghold 2 1.4: crash when starting the application
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC

Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: danxuliu(a)gmail.com
CC: stefandoesinger(a)gmx.at
When Stronghold 2 is started, it first shows a dialog to select some parameters
(detail level, resolution...). After clicking "Play" button, it goes fullscreen
and an "in-game" menu (with "in-game" I mean an image with some buttons with
the look and feel of the game, instead of a desktop dialog like the first) the
user is prompted about updating the game or play.
After selecting play, an image with a progress bar should appear, then an
introduction video and then the menu game. However, when the progress bar
appears, the game crashes.
The downloadable Stronghold 2 demo doesn't seem affected by this problem (but
by others, as it also crashes, but in other point).
I have run a regression test (as it worked in older Wine releases) and found
the offending patch:
a460a2df43aa8eae10b1db028c6020829b009c54 is first bad commit
commit a460a2df43aa8eae10b1db028c6020829b009c54
Author: Stefan Dösinger <stefandoesinger(a)gmx.at>
Date: Sat Jun 9 14:27:41 2007 +0200

I would also like to note that with the first bad commit, when the progress bar
appears it just crashes. However, with current git, instead of just crashing,
the screen goes black and dark blue and seems to load the game (as it stays
some seconds in that state), but eventually it also crashes.
I can't attach a log file, as I tried to follow
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/wineusr-guide/bug-reporting , but when using
relay debug option the game won't pass from the initial dialog (when "Play"
button is clicked it exits silently).
Also note that I executed the game in the game's directory instead from wine's
build directory. That is, I executed "full/path/to/wine Stronghold2.exe" in
Stronghold directory instead of "wine full/path/to/Stronghold2.exe" in wine's
build directory (if executed from wine's build directory, it won't pass from
initial dialog either, even running wine without debug options).
I suppose that I made something wrong, but I don't know what, sorry :) I know
that without a debug log this is almost useless... so, what can I do to provide
you more information? Thanks.

Little "exploit" to test this bug.
Overflow in Wine Notepad.
There is a overflow when opening a file containing a line which contain 24576
symbols (>= 24 Kb). If open such file Wine Notepad will exit with message:
lastik@lastik:~/src/wine/cvs$ wine notepad
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 18 (X_ChangeProperty)
Value in failed request: 0x1
Serial number of failed request: 6697
Current serial number in output stream: 6696
If you will open text file which contains string with more than 8192 symbols

Still an issue in wine 1.1.19, however if the video is set to high res
(640x480) in the Settlers 3 options applet, the video displays fullscreen on

runs successfully under wine

When trying to run Morrowind with wine-1.1.19 in win98 mode, it will stop with
a notice that a debugger was detected and that it will close now for that
reason. This effect does not happen with 1.1.18, there Morrowind runs without
problems.
I installed Morrowind flawlessly and patched it to 1.2.0722 (latest official
patch as of now), running on a Gentoo linux system (amd64).

I can confirm that BF2 (Complete Colection updated to 1.41 patch) works OK
under Wine 1.1.4 but not in previuos versions !!! they work in previous version
till you respawn and/or be severely injured or killed...with Wine 1.1.4 works
OK w/o this problem....only thing is that textures must be set to low or else
you get some black holes in the ground....the other issue is some black
lines...BTW, how can i attach an image to show the results ?!?, TIA, AJSB

then and a black screen happens with builtin DLLs. Using native, builtin for
all DLLs got me an additional error message:
*** NEBULA ASSERTION ***
programmer says: nD3D9Shader:BeginPass() failed on effect
expression: FAILED(hr)
file: ..\src\gfx2\nd3d9shader_main.cc
line: 616
This does not happen in pure builtin mode, but then, nothing but a black screen
happens. This is on a Mobility Radeon 9600, Catalyst fglrx drivers 8.9.
There is a related forum post in the appdb entry from Florian Ritter. The game
seems to work on Nvidia cards.
The captured wine error log (pure builtin DLLs) is attached. Do you have any
ideas what might cause the bug?

Wine provides symbol.ttf...perhaps we should also provide arial and windings.

Running git sources for wine (about 2 months old) and this bug still exists.
I'll try updating wine, but the last time I tried it failed to compile so I
just put it off for awhile. I am using the native DirectPlay DLLs from the
DirectPlay Games info on the winehq site (the win98se dplay DLLs).

Hello,
well even if they fix their application side by not passing
obsolete/unsupported flags from 16 bit era to GlobalAlloc() (like GMEM_NOTIFY)
which would ideally let Prism5 create/open projects - Wine also needs to be
fixed.
Think of legacy apps from other vendors which do exactly the same.
Wine needs to cope with this (questionable) behaviour, ignoring these obsolete
flags.
Just be patient, someone will evidentally pick it up and send in a patch ..
maybe AJ will do it himself.
Regards

Hello,
just put arial.ttf, wingdings.ttf and symbol.ttf font files (referenced in
resource/jre/lib/font.properties file from unpacked installer/JRE folder) into
your windows fonts folder.
Alternatively use 'winetricks corefonts' which does this for you.
That font manager JNI wrapper is just a crappy piece of software with bad error
handling habits.
It will easily crash on missing or broken fonts - also common on native
Windows.
Just look into Sun's bugzilla for a crapload of bugs regarding this issue.
In short: this is nothing Wine can fix because it doesn't ship these fonts.

GodsWar Online is the first fully IGG designed and produced 3D MMORPG, based on
ancient Greek mythology and culture. The download and installation of the game
goes well. The first issue is when wine runs "launch.exe" from the game
directory but that the small problem because if i use "wine godswars.exe" the
game is starting with no issue. The big issue is after the login and the
creation a character and it appears when i connect to a server. Here is a part
of the error that crashes the game: Function: D3D9VertexDeclaration . Below i

Hello,
--- quote ---
Any thoughts anyone?
--- quote ---
Sure ;-)
The app seems to contain various brain damaged snippets from a 16 bit legacy
code base *argh*
Example: GlobalFlags() return values are directly compared against
GMEM_DISCARDED instead of testing for bit mask.
GlobalFlags() *can* potentially return more than one flag set and even lock
count.
It's only valid to check for GMEM_INVALID_HANDLE directly.
Anyway .. this snippet shows the problem:

The root cause is actually GlobalAlloc( GMEM_DISCARDED | GMEM_ZEROINIT |
GMEM_MOVEABLE, size).
See what MSDN says: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366574.aspx
--- quote ---
HGLOBAL WINAPI GlobalAlloc(
__in UINT uFlags,
__in SIZE_T dwBytes
);
...
uFlags [in]
The memory allocation attributes. If zero is specified, the default is
GMEM_FIXED. This parameter can be one or more of the following values, except
for the incompatible combinations that are specifically noted.
...
The following values are obsolete, but are provided for compatibility with
16-bit Windows. They are ignored.
GMEM_DDESHARE
GMEM_DISCARDABLE
GMEM_LOWER
GMEM_NOCOMPACT
GMEM_NODISCARD
GMEM_NOT_BANKED
GMEM_NOTIFY
GMEM_SHARE
--- quote ---
The "ignored" part is the problem. GMEM_NOTIFY (0x4000) gets passed in.
See how Wine stores the flags:
--- snip dlls/kernel32/heap.c ---
GLOBAL WINAPI GlobalAlloc(
UINT flags, /* [in] Object allocation attributes */
SIZE_T size /* [in] Number of bytes to allocate */
) {
...
pintern = HeapAlloc(GetProcessHeap(), 0, sizeof(GLOBAL32_INTERN));
if (pintern)
{
pintern->Magic = MAGIC_GLOBAL_USED;
pintern->Flags = flags >> 8;
pintern->LockCount = 0;
--- snip dlls/kernel32/heap.c ---
and returns them later:
--- snip dlls/kernel32/heap.c ---
UINT WINAPI GlobalFlags(HGLOBAL hmem)
{
...
if(pintern->Magic==MAGIC_GLOBAL_USED)
{
retval=pintern->LockCount + (pintern->Flags<<8);
if(pintern->Pointer==0)
retval|= GMEM_DISCARDED;
}
...
--- snip dlls/kernel32/heap.c ---
Because the app passed GMEM_NOTIFY which is in the high word (0x4042) -> (flags
>> 8) -> 0x40 it will be later returned as 0x4000 (pintern->Flags<<8) which
has incidentally the value of GMEM_DISCARDED (0x4000).
This is something the app doesn't expect (the memory isn't free'd yet).
I fixed the flags according to MSDN (ignored part) and the app (Prism Demo
v5.0.2) successfully creates new projects and opens existing ones.

Tried PRISM 4 & 5.2, and the free PRISM viewer with Wine 1.0.1, running on both
FC 10 and CentOS 5.3. Same 'unable to open file...' report as noted in other
comments. Contacted Graphpad with a startup log; nice Graphpad man responded
thus:
"The log shows that the standard windows API GlobalReAlloc is not working
under Wine. I googled for that API, and found lots of postings about problems
with Wine and that API. I didn't read any of these carefully, but it seems that
perhaps this is a known problem with Wine".
Any thoughts anyone?

At some point since 1.1.18 uTorrent simply goes into a crashloop when it is
started. It displays a message saying it has crashed, it tries to restart
itself, crashes again, ad infinitum.
Rolling back to 1.1.18 gets it working again.
Currently regression testing.

I just wanted to say - two years later:
I'm glad that these routines were finally implemented.
If a game like Supreme Commander failed to run after a successful installation
due to these libraries, then there's obviously something wrong.
Thank you WINE for seeing the light!

With 1.1.19 it still behaves as before. Unless I launch it from the Autodesk
Shared directory it can't find the DLLs. I noticed that if I tell the
installer (SETUP.EXE) to launch it at the end of the install it works
immediately. Afterwards the behavior is as before.

Yes. The first screenshot is how text is rendered more or less all the time.
I've also noticed that some other visual novels with similar GUIs show horribly
(almost unreadably) un-antialiased text instead.
(In other words, different results, but both appearing to be side-effects of
something in Wine reducing an alpha blend to one-bit transparency)

This bug should be marked as fixed not abandonned, since Wine has its own
d3dx9_27 dll no (although its implementation is very basic, but that's another
bug).

Summary: Mouse behavior in game very slow due to lots of

Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.6
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

Mouse behavior in game very slow. Logging shows LOTS of ntdll.RtlFreeHeap() /
ntdll.RtlAllocateHeap (,,,) which may make the game very slow.
Attached the output of
WINEDEBUG=+relay wine Startup.exe >&/tmp/output.txt
starting from the main screen view (so excluding all logging while booting).
At the end, I quit the application: at that point, only a black screen was
shown.

wined3d: Add an IWineD3DDeviceParent interface.
Other than being a bit nicer than passing function pointers all over the
place, this helps dxgi/d3d10. While the swapchain itself is created in
dxgi,
its surfaces are constructed in d3d10core, which makes it impractical for
dxgi
to pass the appropriate function pointers.

I noticed something else ... while running with a lot of debug flags which made
sc slow:
After selecting battlenet and when the login screen appears, I see that the
background is properly drawn ... and then it fades out! (and not in)
I guess the last 'black' color is transparent and therefore all the rest of the
battle.net GUI is broken.

The debug trace shows the problem comes from IDirectDrawSurfaceImpl_GetPalette.
The IWineD3DPalette_GetParent call raises an exception which crashes the game.
I try to comment this few lines in dlls/ddraw/surface.c:
// if(wPal)
// {
// hr = IWineD3DPalette_GetParent(wPal, (IUnknown **) Pal);
// }
// else
// {
*Pal = NULL;
hr = DDERR_NOPALETTEATTACHED;
// }
This is VERY dirty but it worked. The game work seems to work fine (the menu is
ok and I could start a new game).

Hi,
tried that:
extracted sclientinfo.xml to ERo folder (dind't find any ball1.swf)
copied npkdecrypt.sys and renamed to ero.exe
started: wine ero.exe -1asx1 /account:ball1.rsw
error message still remains, reporting failed attempt to connect to server.
tried the same after renaming sclientinfo.xml toball1.swf, still the same...
Added winsocks trace to attachments...
btw, this is all the content of sclientinfo.xml:
"
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="euc-kr" ?>
<no_free_server></no_free_server>
"
shouldn't there be some IP information or something? The game worked on vista
(with exactly these files), so these infos must be somewhere...
cya,
Sven

After extracting sclientinfo.xml from sdata.grf, renaming it to ball1.swf and
starting EternityRO via wine ero.exe -1asx1 /account:ball1.swf, this is the

application totally crashes.
Backtrace doesn't give any useful info.
In adobe illustrator you can drop a color on a gradient for example.

http://openkore.sourceforge.net/grftool/
even tho it is CALLED a dll its not and DO NOT RENAME IT... you don't want to
change that files name nor npkdecrypt.sys (make a copy of it and rename that to
ero.exe)
just extract out said file and put it in the same directory as all the other
EternityRO stuff.

wine-1.1.19
I too have been working all morning on the same issue actually on the server
mentioned in comment 42 EternityRo.... it still is NOT working FOR ME however
the reported resolution is this: The sclientinfo.xml does not exist it has to
be extracted out of the pseudo dll file ws_sock.dll and is called ball1.rsw.
you then rename the npkdecrypt.sys to an exe file (i did ero.exe) then execute
via command wine ero.exe -1asx1 /account:ball1.rsw . this opens the client
and reported by other users will connect (thanks to people in the irc channel
for helping me with this, and they said it was successful).
however in my instance:
apparently instead of a "wrong" ip or the local host mine is transfering to
0.0.0.0. i did capture packets on lo going to and from 127.0.0.1 to 127.0.0.1
with the ip of 0.0.0.0 as destination and source embeded in it...
copy of command WINEDEBUG=+winsock wine ero.exe -1asx1 /account:ball1.rsw >
winsock_trc.txt 2>&1
is found here
http://pastebin.com/f317b4584
kinda thinking comment 39 might be right in that its not a problem with
winsocks however pulling the ip out of some sort of wierd place... however not
sure.
any help would be much obliged. Really would like to play on this server.

Looks like that to properly fix this we have to do:
1) Figure out which shader versions are affected by the issue
2) For these shader versions clamp the results when something is written to a
texcoord register

The cause of "exiting silently" has never been made clear, there are at least
three separate causes.
> All other issues *after* app startup should be filed separately.
As above, there is more than one cause for the failure in the first place,
which is why I asked, "Should separate bugs be opened for each exception (as
they are in different modules)?" but didn't receive an answer.
I will assume that this bug is dealing with the MSI errors then, given the
above, and open new bugs for each problem when I get around to it, as nobody
else will bother to.

Output trying to register the program
When running 3DS Max 7, you will get a Window that loads up asking if you want
to run the program or activate it. If you choose the option to activate it, a
pop-up will display which is supposed to show all the options for activating
your copy of the program. Unfortunately, when it loads up all that is inside of
it is a blank screen with two bullets on the top and a line under it.
The console spit out a few fixmes related to shdocvw and mshtml mainly (which I
will attach as well as a screenshot). I tried using dll overrides for shdocvw,
shwapi and mshtml but all it did was silence the errors and keep the
registration window from even popping up...
I'm not sure the URL is even good to download 3DS Max 7 at anymore, so I'll
keep looking if I have to.
Also, 3DS Max 7 will give you a 30 day grace period before they require you to
register it.

If this is the default configuration for packaged versions of Wine & new/fresh
installations (including compiled from source), then this bug may no longer be
valid. Could someone confirm these cases?
I'm aware of the other bugs
"fixme:int:DOSVM_Int10Handler Get Font Information - Not Supported" and
"fixme:int:DOSVM_Int10Handler Select Active Display Page (0) - Not Supported"
but they belong in their own bug reports. I doubt this will be fixed any time
soon due to the nature of the latter bug.

First bug from comment #6 was fixed recently, with current git it works well.
Second bug from that comment, however, is still present.

If you're running into this bug with a packaged version of wine,
it probably means whoever packaged wine forgot to include
/etc/sysctl.d/wine.conf

I just wanted to add a link to this associated bug
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12516 - [Bug 12516]
err:dosmem:setup_dos_mem error report on every run of Wine.
The bug referenced no longer occurs on every run of Wine, but still occurs when
calling 16 bit dlls or apps. This bug is, in a way, a subset of bug 12516. This
one still exists (please don't close it). I'm just trying to tie together
related information.

> What's interesting is the screenshot of cspy 1.0 in comment 3 has two up/down

> value" works fine.
Here is the problem: the only difference in these two controls is in one style:
UDS_AUTOBUDDY. If it is not set, wine won't display the arrows, while native
version would. Try setting this style and you'll see that arrows will appear.
I am not into UpDown control code, maybe somebody familiar with it would fix
this.

No, and I don't believe there was ever a bug here in the first place. This only
happens when using a no-cd patch, and I can replicate the same behavior when I
patch my own exe. When I run using the CD, it works perfectly fine.

I am running Dynacadd 98 2D, a CAD program on Ubunto Hardy Heron. Dynacadd
loads OK and operates with these pecularities:
1.On some occasions Dynacadd opens and leaves "shadows" where task windows were
displayed. Closing and restarting Dynacadd will often resolve the problem.
2. On some occasions the cursor fails to display a selection window that would
normally show the CAD operator which area or entities of a drawing he had
selected. The program though appears to know what was selected.
3. After Dynacadd has been opened and closed several (say ten or 20,) times
attempting to open the transformation menu causes Dynacadd to crash.
Reinstalling Dynacadd from the CD resolves this problem.

winebrowser doesn't work with browsers/commands that

Setting that to be the first attempted webbrowser in the registry:
[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-4\Software\Wine\WineBrowser]
"Browsers"="kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing,firefox,mozilla,opera,dillo"
and running:
winebrowser http://www.winehq.org

I sent in a patch for this a while ago, this is the latest revision:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2007-January/034937.html
The patch had some problems and I haven't gotten back to working on it. Now it
probably needs to be updated for the latest changes to winebrowser.
As part of the solution, the patch changes the registry key that stores the
browsers to try to a REG_MULTI_SZ value. Since this changes the wineprefix,
this should be fixed before 1.0.

Hello,
When I want to do anything with wine, i.e. start winecfg, start a windows
program with wine, run regedit... wine crashes (in fact it doesn't even open)
and creates an "uninterruptible" process. See attached file for terminal output
when starting.
I don't use dos programs, I already tried to erase .wine folder, it happens
also when running winecfg.
I'm not alone in that case. See ubuntu-fr forums.

Serial port errors
Hi!!
This is my first time here. First of all, thanks to you folks for this great
piece of software.
My problem is as follows:
I'm using a VisualBasic 6.0 application on Linux using wine 0.9.58. This
application has some menus showing some icons so users can click on them using
a serial port device made by a friend of mine, through serial port, which acts
as a "keyboard". Serial port is connected to com1 symlinking it from
/dev/ttyS0. Everything works fine, except that sometimes, apparently randomly,
application freezes when changing from one screen to another, having to wait
many seconds for it to continue it's execution.
The best I have been able to do is to make the application run faster in
general, so this time gets shorter, but we are still speaking of many seconds.
Some information about the application: it reads and writes data from and to
the serial port, using 9600 baud rate, com1. It opens it, reads the
information, changes the screen or menu, and then closes the port again. It
does so many times during the execution. Everything works fine on Windows XP.
Can anyone help??
I attach some debugging information. Original file, using
"WINEDEBUG=trace+comm" was 100MiB sized, so I have just cut and pasted the more
relevant into the file

terminal output from successful installation with errors
WP will execute and let me create a new document and print it, but will not let
me open an existing file nor is there a Save button in the Save or Save As
dialogs, so WP will not let me save my work either. Pretty much useless other
than for the novelty to be able to say that it does indeed run on Linux.
Installation of WP X3 ODF/OOXML Beta succeeds (with errors on command line and
an installer error about needing to configure Borland app db). WP will execute
and let me create a new document and print it. Fonts rendering is a little
awkward, but readable.
Installed with Winecfg in Windows XP mode. No DLL overrides. No attempt made
to fix the BDE error.
Created a test report on Wine App DB:

Note that I substituted my real username for $USER in 3 locations in the
attached log.

First I was prompted to activate during the install process. The error
(screenshot attached) saying there wasn't enough disk space to start the
application then surfaced (after choosing the alternative phone process). After
pressing "OK", the install process continued, and finished. After starting
photoshop, I was once again reminded I had 30 days to activate, I once again
pressed "Options", and tried activating by phone. The error resurfaced.
I quit. Restarted photoshop. Error again. As I was writing this bug report, I
wanted to document this with some screenshots, and guess what. Suddenly no
error! I got to activate. I still thinks it needs reporting, though, because
most users would had enough the first or second time.
It was a clean new install using wine 0.9.57 on Ubuntu Hardy Heron Beta. I
installed the corefonts package using winetricks after installing photoshop.

It seems like "strange keys behaviour". For example, when I write ")" in some
windows application each next letter will CAPS LOCKED. I dont touch Ctrl, but
when I try to print some letters (V,C,W etc) wine can paste something from
buffer or copy or close windows. I caled it "hot keys reaction"
I had this bag with qip 8004 and LDK PCADMIN
I found it under wine 0.9.56 too. Older wine versions worked fine.
My system is Ubuntu 7.10

Parent window over child window
Using Tools -> Options -> Instruments -> Troubleshooter, the chid window,
Troubleshooter, is created but remains under the parent window, Instruments.
Because Troubleshooter is only slightly larger than Instruments, its creation
may be missed. Only by moving Instruments enough to uncover Troubleshooter is
it possible to raise the child window over the parent. This should happen as a
consequence of opening Troubleshooter, happens under Windows, but not under
Wine.

I used the Ctrl+C trick to improve startup times. But, after the third or
fourth time I used the trick the program started up as a small box. The box is
the icon from the upper left hand corner of the normal window. If you click on
the box the "window menu" opens up, but the minimize and maximize options are
greyed out. Also, the box cannot be resized, rendering NL unusable.
Closing NL and restarting the application will not fix the problem. Neither
will uninstalling and reinstalling the application through wine.

Summary: Binary/Text IO in C++ under Wine
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.44.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: wine-msvcrt
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: nmnnotmyname(a)gmail.com
In C++ Input, Wine appears to act weird when reading a binary file as a text
file. In both Windows and Cedega, this condition does not exist. Since i am in
contact with the developer of the program that had this bug, I was able to have
him fix it. Actual code is given here:
ifstream fin(file.c_str(), ios::in | ios::binary); # this works for binary
files in wine, windows and Cedega
ifstream fin(file.c_str()); # this works for binary files in windows and Cedega
The first thing i thought of was in MSVCRT, but i don't know whether or not
wine implements that or it uses the real thing, or by default it uses its own
version. However, I can not trace the actual cause :( I've tried, and i have
the source. Maybe I'm missing it. After all, all i did was a quick scan
through.
I'd also like to note that I believe this is likely an bug by Microsoft:
Perhaps this is because Windows does not make an actual correlation between
binary and text files. I don't really know.
As a final note: I don't know how well Wine handles 64-bit computers (whether
it uses assembly to glue 64-bit wine libraries to 32-bit executables or doesn't
support 64-bit windows/wine libraries and programs or whatever) but i will note
once more this is a 64-Bit computer with 64-bit Sabayon(Modified Gentoo) (But i
did update wine by hand to get the latest version)
