Bug still there in wine-1.1.19. I confirm that a native dbghelp dll fixes the
crash.
Wine bugzilla needs a dbghelp component.

In CS:S
None of the posted "fixes" fix this for me. I find that if I play on a GG
server with a quick map change time I can play for hours, with occasional
lockups for ~2 seconds.
If I play on de_dust2 the game will crash within 1-5 minutes, regardless of
what I am doing or what is going on in the game, Ive had it crash in a big fire
fight but also during buy mode at the start with 0 shooting etc.
System:
Gentoo x86_64
Intel E2200
2g ram
Nvidia 9800gt, tested drivers 177.82 through 180.37 to no effect.
Alsa, no configuration options help, including turning sound off.
Kernel 2.6.29_rc8.
Wont paste a crash log as its identical to the others posted.

If the win98 mode for hl2.exe seems to fix it, and as I've noticed it uses the
older win9x fonts ingame, then might we just have to have the requisite fonts
that steam uses? Would installing mscorefonts on regular wine fix the problem?
If so, then it would seem we just need a few more free replacements. Correct me
if I'm wrong, but Tahoma Bold is used throughout steam, but the bold style
doesn't seem to be in the tahoma font provided by winehq. The only font I add
myself to my wineprefix is 'lucida console', for the hl2.exe console.
All in all, I would rather not have to install mscorefonts, so should we be
having a discussion focused more on which fonts are suspect?

thanks, the "Client side fix/hack (HUD modification to lower font size)" patch
solves my headshot problem. maybe we could add this problem to the description
of this bug (7698), to make it clearer for other people like me who may open
new bugs even after having read the description this one :p

Summary: Counter Strike 1.6 non-video slowdown
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.12
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: elfy.ua(a)gmail.com
Hello,
I was running Counter Strike 1.6 on wine-1.1.12. The first run there was some
minor slowdowns, but the game did run correctly after a minute or so and did so
for the 3 hrs approx. The other runs the following occurs:
• The menu is okay, though some characters are missing at random. Not the
whole text, but select characters, and the exact missing character set is
random between independent executions.
• When the game is run it drops to 1 frame every 5 seconds(can be measured
looking at the game timer).
• Wine produces no notable error messages, and even any warning.
• The bug persists through OpenGL and Software renderers(DX is screwed), and
no such lag is seen in any other heavy-3D program.
• The emulator thread and the wineserver itself during the lag are put to
sleep, the CPU usage never exeeds 1%.
>From what I understand, this is smth wrong with IO, but I don't know how to
debug it.
Video card: Intel X3100, driver ver: >2.6.3(git), xorg ver: 1.6.0.

Output on the console
Starting statistical program p2 causes wine to crash. The program can be
downloaded from here http://stat.gamma.rug.nl/stocnet/content/dl_frame.htm as a
part of StOCNET 1.8 package. This is a simple command line program that runs an
analysis on a set of files, so it probably should work.
The software runs for a couple of seconds after which it shows a dialog saying
"Runtime error 216 at 000095A2", dumps a debug log to the console and crashes.
The log is attached.

Just for kinks someone having this bug could try the patches in bug
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13335 to see if this belongs to the
series of bugs where fglrx can't get to allocate the memory it needs and
behaves odd because of that. (while that bug report is just about a libgl
error, the bug also causes graphical corruption and crashes in some cases so
always worth it to reflect against it to see if the issue on fglrx is separate)

Ok, got it working!
You have to go into Wine's configuration, click on the Libraries tab, click on
dsound, Edit, and change builtin to native. Works like a charm. :)
Thanks to Damon Kohler for this info, btw:
http://www.damonkohler.com/2008/09/how-to-run-rise-of-nations-with-wine.html
Not sure if this workaround qualifies as a bug fix or not, but hopefully it
will help the developers track down the issue.

While mounting /home in noexec is common security practise i surprised not to
find similar report entries however i sure that there are a lot bugs connected
to this issue.
Practising such way myself i found out that if the place where external (not
wine-native) libraries and frameworks (such Mono or MS Visual C++) is situated
(9/10 chance that it is your /home) mounted with noexec option any tries to run
software dependent on them will fail with different and non-intuitive errors
like infamous "err:module:attach_process_dlls "MSVCR80.dll" failed to
initialize, aborting"
it's not matter what mounting options used on fs where actual application is
placed.
to pin-point such behaviour always check if non-working software will work then
you remount fs with exec option and it probably be good thing to tag existing
bug entries where bugs caused by this and named by application as duplicats to
this entry

Most operations in WinOmega [1] fail with "Invalid file name", making the
program useless. A messagebox displaying this error is seen when starting the
program, as well as in many other codepaths.
This regression was introduced with commit
8044c11ecfca09e2b643feccb95a4d8f645ba656
Author: Aric Stewart <aric(a)codeweavers.com>
Date: Tue Mar 17 07:40:42 2009 -0500
kernel32: Report unixfs instead of ntfs for unknown filesystem type.
This avoids programs such as the .Net2.0 installer trying to do ntfs
specific functions on the disk.
WinOmega is programmed in Delphi. There's probably some code in Delphi runtime
libraries that checks for the filesystem type string, and it's likely this bug
affects a whole class of programs.

There is still a minor bug.
When you start a new game, some bitmaps (right part of any forest) have a black
background. When Dink walks onto such square, he disappears. I am attaching a
screenshot to make it more clear.
But when you restart the game and load your previously saved game everything is
ok.
I can confirm the bug in wine 1.1.16 and 1.1.18.
There is no forest in your village. To see it you need to finish a few very
simple tasks (You need approximately 5 minutes).
Here is a walkthrought:
-talk with your mother (press space)
-take pig food (right upper part of the room)
-get outside and one screen up
-select pig food "weapon" (enter, right arrow, ctrl, enter)
-feed pigs with ctrl
-go two screens right and in the house offer old lady to find her duck
-wander around the village until you spot the duck, speak with it (space) and
choose the second option ("Yell at it").
-see the lady again
-go to house one screen left and one screen down and offer your help with a
farm
-go back to mother
-go to save machine and save game (space, 2xctrl)
-leave the village
Some magician should appear. In the upper part of the screen you should spot
the bug.
-exit the game
-start the game again and load your save
-leave the village
The magician is there, but not the bug. All other forests are also ok now.

Tested with Gun Metal full version 1.09.1.1, Gun Metal demo 1.01 and 1.14. Same
behaviour all-round.
When trying to set controls with a gamepad, Gun Metal picks up POV2 as pointing
up. My controller is PlayStation 2 style and has: X, Y, Z, Rz, POV1 and 12
buttons. The driver used is evdev (joystick_linuxinput.c), since Gun Metal
doesn't seem to detect joydev (joystick_linux.c) devices.
My theory is that at some point (I don't know where), the value for POV2, and
possibly POV3 and POV4, is getting set to 0 instead of -1. I haven't been able
to test this with other programs/games because they correctly detect that there
is only one POV.
Note that if you want to run even the demo of Gun Metal, you need native
quartz.dll, and I've had more luck getting the game to run when using
WINEDEBUG=+relay.

I have got this wrong.
Sound doesn't work, only during the installer.
Maybe this one does need to be reopened.
Appdb test results confirm.
God knows what I was thinking.
Can someone please reopen this? I don't think severity is major and I think
the problem is in dsound, not dmusic, or perhaps both!

It's in the regular DX8 docs. I uploaded them here:
http://www.math.uni-bielefeld.de/~tjakobi/wine/DirectX-8.chm
They provide some pseudocode for the rcp instruction. According to that code
(and the remark that follows later) a w-component of zero generates +infty as
result.

Tobias Jakobi: after some more tests it looks like you may be right about that
stuff. Seems like result of rcp components multiplied by 0 give 0 or something
that gets converted to a 0 color component, whereas component multiplied by
small values like 0.001 and 0.00001 give 0xFF color component. So e.g.
vs_2_0
dcl_position v0
def c0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0
def c1, 0.0, 0.00001, 0.0, 0.0
mov oPos, v0
rcp r1, c0.x
mul oD0, r1, c1
seems to give green (00FF00). This doesn't look like clamping of rcp result,
rather like +Inf after rcp. Unfortunate, I think clamping was easier to fix.
Then could be either Inf * 0 = 0 or maybe Inf * 0 = NaN and NaN converted to 0
for color output (but somehow different in vs_3_0).
Where did you find about infinity in sdk docs btw?

Wine crash log
I've been following wine git for some time now.
Some time after Wine 1.1.18 Sacred started crashing or hanging when selecting
New Campaign (or Ancaria Campaign/Underworld Campaign).
I tried the usual work-arounds as changing OffscreenRenderingMode &
DirectDrawRenderer but it still crashes 100% of the time.
This was with Sacred Underworld 2.28 and with the Sacred Demo (available from
Fileplanet and others).
After running a git bisect I end up with:

Summary: winemenubuilder.c: "Desktop" string not localized -> no

Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.17
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: giulioo(a)gmail.com
Note: I just grepped the source and I think the problem is winemenubuilder.c
and its 2 occurrences of
location = heap_printf("%s/Desktop/%s.desktop", getenv("HOME") ...
however even it's that is not the culprit the problem remains.
===============
System:
Ubuntu 8.04 and Ubuntu 8.10
Wine 1.1.17 (binary from WineHQ APT Repository)
I install a Windows app which will create desktop links (.lnk) in the "all
users" desktop folder, in Wine it's:
drive_c/users/Public/Desktop/*.lnk
What happens to these desktop icons seem to depend on the locale I use when
installing ubuntu:
1) If I use EN (no problems)
- My desktop folder will be /home/user1/Desktop
- winecfg will show a map "Desktop -> /home/user1/Desktop"
- After the install I'll get *.desktop files corresponding to the *.lnk in
/home/user1/Desktop
- All is fine
2) If I use IT (Italian, abnormal behavior is observed)
- My desktop folder will be /home/user1/Scrivania
- winecfg will show a correct map "Desktop -> /home/user1/Scrivania"
- drive_c/users/user1/Desktop -> /home/user1/Scrivania
- After the install I WON'T get any *.desktop files/icons
- If I do
$ mkdir Desktop (thus creating /home/user1/Desktop)
then after the install *.desktop files will be created in this dir, however
this is not my real desktop folder, so no icons will show up on the desktop
anyway.
Wine-1.0.1 has a similar problem:
- With IT locale by default it will put files into /home/user1/*.desktop (ie:
in the homedir instead of in the desktop dir), if I create /home/user1/Desktop
then it will put them there.
I hope this can be fixed both on 1.0.x and 1.1.x.

However, OpenEngine fails to function, and appears instead as a messed up box

OpenEngine (a component of OpenInsight that loads alongside OpenInsight) does
not.

Look at the attached screenshot. It represents an open menu in the application

scroll up/down through the options.
That's not how the menu looks like on Windows. On that OS, many more options
are visible at once - I can't recall if all options are visible, or just many
more. In any case, the way it works on Windows is much more usable. Being able
to see only two options makes it hard to work with the toolbox.

Summary: Edit control on toolbar behaves badly

+message,+toolbar,+edit logs for both native and builtin comctl32 on
wine-1.1.16
Let's start with a screenshot:
http://www.polosatus.ru/wine/lefttoolbar.sidebyside.png
On this screenshot you can ignore red numbers, they are related to bug #12553.
The interesting part is edit control, and even more interesting is the most
right button. When running with native comctl32 (bottom image) as you can see
the button is positioned to the right from the edit control. But with builtin
comctl32 (top image) the button is positioned below the edit control. Also,
there is 2 px gap between buttons (supposedly that's what toolbar control
thinks about edit width).
This is the first strange thing.
The second one is displayed on this screenshot:
http://www.polosatus.ru/wine/editbug2.sidebyside.png
Here native comctl32 shows combobox 100% toolbar wide (and without the dropdown
button), and no edit control. Builtin one shows combobox not in full toolbar
size and shows dropdown button. But that's not big problem. The problem is that
edit control is out there, while it shouldn't.
Related to this bug here is what is there in the log: There is
WM_WINDOWPOSCHANGING sent to the edit control which happens with both native
and builtin comctl. But native then also sends WM_WINDOWPOSCHANGED and WM_MOVE
and really moves edit item out of toolbar visible area (somewhere to the
right).
P.S: The application is Watchtower Library.

If you start Google Talk and install gecko, when it starts will show an
internal error and close. If you don't install Gecko this error won't appear.
Tested in wine 1.1.14.

Summary: [PATCH] cope with missing wglGetExtensionsStringARB /
wglGetPixelFormatAttribivARB
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other

patch
Currently, WineD3D assumes wglGetExtensionsStringARB and
wglGetPixelFormatAttribivARB are present, and if they're not, it will segfault
when attempting to call them. This patch adds some checks so that:
- The pointers in GLINFO_LOCATION are set to NULL when a WGL function is not
present (this was only done for GL ones).
- Code paths exist to fail gracefully when either wglGetExtensionsStringARB or
wglGetPixelFormatAttribivARB are unimplemented, disabling the functionality
associated with them.
(This situation was found when using WineD3D with Chromium OpenGL as
implemented in VirtualBox OSE 2.1)

Drawing showing PATH_ExtTextOutW bug
The following attachments are 2 simple autocad drawings with an MTEXT object (2
lines of text) inside.
The first one shows the bug and, when traced, goes through PATH_ExtTextOutW;
the text is drawn much smaller as it should.
On second drawing the same text (just copied-pasted from the first drawing...),
tracing it shows a call to ExtTextOutW and it's displayed correctly.
I don't know why the text object copied from first drawing (which goes through
PATH_ExtTextOutW) doesn't go through the same code flow if pasted on a new
drawing, but it shows indeed some bug on PATH_ExtTextOutW() or other path
functions.
Ciao

Hi there,
this is a regression introduces between wine-1.1.3 and wine-1.1.4
It affects Morrowind version 1.2.0722, when OffscreenRenderingMode is set to
fbo. GLSL settings don't seem to have any effect on the issue.
Console output doesn't seem to be related to the problem. I get a lot of those
though on my Nvidia NV35:
fixme:d3d_shader:shader_glsl_deselect_depth_blt >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) from glUseProgramObjectARB @ glsl_shader.c / 3450
I'm currently bisecting and these msgs also appear when the state is good, so
they're probably not really related.
How does the issue look like:
The Waterplane (pixel shader water is on) and the sprites flicker a lot when
moving through the terrain. Sprites also does include parts of the trees and
e.g. lillies in the various pools outside of Seyda Neen.
Interesting observation:
When pressing ESC, which does bring up the ingame menu (Save, Load, Exit - you
get the idea) the graphics are perfect. Always.
Posting bisect info later.
Greets,
Tobias

Hi All,
Lotus Word Pro 9.8.0208.1300, when switched from full screen mode to
windowed mode (the two boxes between the underscore and the "X" in the upper
right corner):
1) runs off the bottom and the right of the screen.
2) you can not get the double diagonal arrows on the upper left of
the windows to size it as it is too far to the upper left.
You can size it by moving the window down by dragging the upper bar to
the lower right, then you can catch the double sizing arrows on the
upper left.
Many thanks,

Terminal output
Game crashes at certain points of the game when sound is enabled. The first time
this is encountered is when selecting a menu option of the main menu.Sometimes
you can get past this, but it will crash shortly after entering the first
building, when you get control of the player. There is a workaround posted on
the appdb page, however it doesn't work for me.
The crashes don't occur when sound is disabled through winecfg, or through the
game itself, however, because the driver of the car at the start of the game
doesn't say anything, you get out of the car earlier which results in you being
stuck inside/behind the rubbish bin and you can't move back to the other side.
Last few lines of terminal output are attached.I didn't post the entire log, as
it comes out as a 2.8M file, and I have a slow upload speed. The preceding
output is just the glDisable GL_FOG fixme, repeating over and over.

This was mentioned in all test results on AppDb but I found no bugreport for
this so far.
The Problem: the game movies do not have any sound whatsoever. Additionally
there are background sounds/music and character voices missing ingame. As far
as I can tell, the same problem exists in the downloadable demo I linked.
I have played around a bit with ALSA/OSS settings and emulation mode but had no
success with it. I'm testing on Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64 with kernel
2.6.24-17-generic and snd_intel_hda sound using wine-0.9.61 from
wine.budgetdedicated.com repository.

Everything was working fine on Ubuntu Gutsy (updated to Feb 29th) then I
applied a wine update 0.9.55 to 0.9.56 and now I cannot see any of the card art
in mws play.
Upgrading to version 0.9.57 does not fix this problem.
I reverted to version Wine 0.9.55 i386 on ubuntu gutsy and now I can see the
cards again. If you have the same problem do the following:
1) Backup your .wine directory in your home folder
2) In a terminal window type in the following "sudo apt-get remove --purge
wine"
3) Download the 0.9.55 version from here
wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html
4) Install it by double clicking the .deb file
5) Run MWS. If its not there restore your .wine profile directory that you
backed up previously.
Hope this helps anyone who had the same problem

Exactly the same problem for me with Wine 1.1.18 on an ATI4850 with fglrx 9.3
Another strange thing is that tanktextures never show up, while other vehicles
don't have this problem. The textures seem to return when stunned.
Another strange graphical glitch is that groundtextures in the distance look
overbright yellow, when you get closer the normal looking groundtexture pops
in.

Installing .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 fails.
Hey all.
During installation, a dialog is displayed showing:
Extraction Failed
Unable to find a volume for file extraction.
Please verify that you have proper permissions.
The stdout from running the installer is included as an attachement.
Since this prevents installation of all .NET applications which require .NET
2.0 SP1, I would guess it may be higher priority than normal, but will leave
that for someone with Wine experience.
I notice that the WineHQ page describing .Net 2.0 (not SP1) notes that an issue
very like this one was resolved in wine 1.1.7, but it is still a problem for
me. The suggested workaround for that, using:
$ sh winetricks volnum
does not fix this problem for me.

Bug is still present in current git.
I looked in detail at a relay trace for menu related problems. Nothing
suspicious found. It is quite possible that the bug is caused by something else
and that it happens inside a INITMENUPOPUP message a coincidence.

Well, starting up Diablo 2 (LoD expansion), I started having problems with the
fps dropping to about half the normal. I've reinstalled Ubuntu 8.04, updated
it, reinstalled Wine from 1.1.18 to 1.0, and it still drops the frames after a
few minutes. It also effects other Windows programs (No$GBA emulator) after
the Diablo 2 FPS drops. I'm running a Dell Latitude D600 laptop with Ubuntu
8.04. At the time Wine was at 1.1.18, now it's at 1.0 and still having the
problems.
The strange part is, before a few days ago, I was able to play without a
problem on Diablo 2.

The program does have an event loop ( 'SDL_WaitEvent( &event )' ), but forget
it, I forgot Windows applications don't use the terminal as 'stdout', but
rather write to 'stdout.txt' file in the executable directory. In short, both
programs work, my bad (so yeah, I probably did not even understand the case
here), sorry.

Found it.
http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/BBC-iPlayer_Setup.exe
It installs, even though there's a bunch of unhandled exceptions according to
the console, and files are in c:\ when I don't think they should be.
Try to launch from the desktop icon creates a "Can not start service" message
from Kontiki.
So, yes, it installs...

Yeah! And Pattern and Symbol editors too! Layers - works, Design rules - works.
So far, everything works... will test further...
snatch hour of sleep, and build a deb package with the patch. :)
The perfect gift for my birthday - thanks!

This test is kind of useless. It doesn't show on API level what SDL library is
doing.
Besides I think this is totally unrelated problem - of application not having
event loop thus not receiving any input from X.

I can still reproduce it (current git). Not sure if this is the same bug, or
this is unrelated.
1. Open regedit
2. Open Registry > Import
3. Change view to detailed
4. Select (click) first item
5. Click name header to reorder the list.
See the bug: the selected item is the first one in the list, which was the last
one before reordering. That is, wrong item is selected. But if you scroll to
the end of the list, you will see that the item that you have actually clicked
is focused.
Another part of the bug is that focus frame stays there until you make it
redraw the list.
In order to reproduce this, second bug, do the following:
1. Open regedit
2. Navigate to some registry branch that has more than one values, for
instance, HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop
3. Click, then click again some item, so that it become editable.
4. Now click another item
See the bug: focus frame is still present for unfocused item.

Simple cross-compiled SDL "test keys" application (PE executable)
This bug is still an issue as of wine-1.1.18
I added a simple SDL application I cross-compiled recently. The ELF equivalent
of this executable runs without any problem, detecting every keypress. The PE
version (attached) runs in Wine, but won't detect the most simple keypress
(like 'a'). My keymap is fr-ca btw.
Nota: I'll test latest GIT as soon as I have time (which might never happen)

> Is this still an issue in current (0.9.52 or newer) wine?
>
Yes. Still present in wine-1.1.18-170-g8c2acec.
In Windows, if you choose any of the drawing tools (except "Paint Roller"
(flood fill) and Text), and click and drag across the canvas, the mouse cursor
will stop at the edge of the visible canvas.
In Wine, the cursor can leave the window, but has no effect on invisible parts
of the canvas (this is actually a bug in PBRUSH itself - flood fill, for
example, doesn't extend beyond the edge of the visible canvas).
In fact, in Wine, using the Scissors (freeform selection) tool, you can "cut
out" the toolbox, palette and toolbars, and drag a copy of them into the
picture...

processing queued test data: misleading description
I am maintainer of two apps and I find to difficult maintaing it beacause of
page when you have to decide whether to process or reject the queued data.
Here is why -- the info says:
"
This is the list of test results waiting for submission, rejection or d
deletion.
"
but the available actions are not three but two -- process and delete.
Info says:
To view a submission, click on its name.
And there is no name field.
So please correct the information to be accurate -- you can view the data by
processing it, and on the next page (processing) you can submit, reject, delete
data not on the queue data page.
Each time I have to figure out and remember from the last time how this page
actually works.

WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh Wine 1.1.18
(In reply to comment #9)
I'm using Wine 1.1.18 (compiled from source using gcc version 4.3.2 20081105
(Red Hat 4.3.2-7) ) on Fedora 10 i386.
This is still an issue.

Wine 1.1.18 unhandled exception with native mdac25 and msxml3

In Wine 1.1.18 my environment is different.
ALLUSERSPROFILE=C:\users\Public
This directory does exist during installation but the files are still copied to
c:\
Simply moving the eBay folder from c:\ to c:\users\Public allows the app to
start, but an unhandled exception occurs.
winetricks mdac25 works around this unhandled exception.
A second unhandled exception occurs that "winetricks msxml3" takes care of.
When creating a new item, a third unhandled exception occurs (attached log),
but I am not aware of a workaround.
Should separate bugs be opened for each exception (as they are in different
modules)?
Gecko 0.9.1 is already installed on my system.
Also note that this app is affected by Bug 14026.

Hello,
required prerequisites: clean WINEPREFIX
winetricks msxml3 mdac25 gecko
Native msxml3 because the app requests the free threaded version of DOMDocument
(MSXML2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument.3.0) which Wine doesn't provide.
MDAC 2.x can be any current version, not limited to 2.5
Gecko engine is needed later for embedded DHTML stuff.
--- quote ---
There's a difference in the Windows XP and Wine installs.
A folder named "eBay" appears in ~/.wine/drive_c/ when installed with Wine, but
under Windows XP this folder appears under C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\.
According to "wine cmd" the environment variable is set to
"ALLUSERSPROFILE=C:\windows\profiles\All Users", but c:\windows\profiles isn't
even created during install.
Could it be that the files simply aren't being copied to the correct place?
The installer is failing to do it's job?

--- snip dlls/msi/install.c ---
Both paths refer to same location ("C:\\users\\focht\\" -> '%USERPROFILE%') but
the resolved path taken from property is missing the terminating backslash.
build_directory_name(2, szFolderPath, NULL) will always add terminating
backslash -> "C:\\users\\focht\\"
resolve_folder(package,szFolder,FALSE,FALSE,FALSE,&folder) will not ->
"C:\\users\\focht"
The path comparison fails and all resolved targets in the package are thrown
away to be re-resolved.
This renders previous custom actions which set specific path properties
useless.
You might want to fix resolve_folder() to have resolved target
backslash-terminated when loading from property.
With that problem fixed, the app overcomes the "first user" problem and starts
successfully.

Installed Wine via package manager, and installed Counterstrike through Wine.
Using nvidia driver v180.29 installed off of the nvidia.com website.
When running counter-strike, which, by default, is a full-screen application,
the program defaults to 640x480 in windowed mode. Clicking through the options
from within the game show no way to change the resolution to something higher
(The "resolutions" drop-down box is completely empty).
This is platform independent, as I have run into this problem on both x86 and
x86_64 installations.
It may be because the game itself doesn't support this particular aspect ratio,
but my monitor supports many different resolutions, so that can't be the
problem.
Of notable importance is the following line in the Wine terminal output:
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found
640x480x16 @0! (XRandR)
Please advise.

Summary: MouseWarpOverride set to force causes mouse in menus to
hang
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.18
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: felix.kuperjans(a)gmx.de
To avoid the mouse escaping the window or hitting screen edges while playing
for example ego shooters, that don't grab the mouse correctly with DirectInput,
the registry key "MouseWarpOverride" was introduced (see bug 6971). With
setting this key to force, one can cause wine to reset the cursor position
several times per secound, so that the cursor does not escape the window or hit
the screen edges.
This works fine for many games, but in some games this opens a new bug:
The mouse can now be used freely within the gameplay, but in the menus of those
games the cursor is resetted, too, and one can't move the mouse to the menu
items.
Games, where I recognized this bug are:
Gothic III
AquaNox 2 Revelation
I would recommend a workaround until the mouse bug is finally solved and there
are no more problems in any game:
Add a keyboard shortcut, that can be optionally configured to turn
MouseWarpOverride on or off on the fly during the gameplay. This way, one could
leave it as disabled by default, and enable it after the game itself has
started. If one goes back to the menu, it can be disabled again by pressing
this shortcut.
