So, the bug appears only when control does not have UDS_ALIGNLEFT nor
UDS_ALINGRIGHT. If you set any of them in Styles dialog, and then recreate
control, it would work well (arrows will appear). In this case buttons should
be displayed outsinde of input box, but with native comctl32 there are none.

Well I emailed eBay TL Support for a bit of a clue, but the best they could
suggest was contacting "some tech savvy guy having a good knowledge about
Linux".
I'm guessing they have no idea what Wine is, then.
----------------------------------
Hello Ken,
Thank you for your email. I'm sorry to hear that you are facing problems
whilst testing eBay Turbo Lister with wine under Linux. I understand the
frustration this issue would have caused to you.
Please understand that as Turbo Lister is designed to run on Windows
platform, I'm sorry to inform you that we won't be able to provide you
any support in this relation. I would therefore request you to get in
touch with some tech savvy guy having good knowledge about Linux. I
apologise for the inconvenience this might cause to you.
I know this may not have been the answer you were hoping for, but I hope
I've at least been able to explain things clearly.
Kind regards,
Michael Johnns

When importing some mp3s into Live, short glitches appear in the right channel.
I think these are introduced in the import stage because they appear in the
waveform view, zooming in shows that these are a high frequency square wave.
This seems to happen mostly on mp3s from beatport.com, I have tried loading the
files into live running on windows xp and they are fine.
I'm running Wine 1.1.3 on gentoo amd64.
Which debug logs would be useful?

Martin, you do not need use winegcc. Just write a test in the
dsound/test/ds3d.c file, and then you compile wine with make crosstest (be sure
that you mingw installed :D ). Then, Wine will give you an .exe that you can
test in your Windows box.

I would like to run the scripts locally in order to check the consistency of
the Wiki page, however all mail archives I searched (including winehq.org)
don't have mails from 2000 any more.
Can someone who still has these mails post the content on the wiki page and the
scripts as well? This way we can still run them and maintain them if needed.

In CS:S
None of the posted "fixes" fix this for me. I find that if I play on a GG
server with a quick map change time I can play for hours, with occasional
lockups for ~2 seconds.
If I play on de_dust2 the game will crash within 1-5 minutes, regardless of
what I am doing or what is going on in the game, Ive had it crash in a big fire
fight but also during buy mode at the start with 0 shooting etc.
System:
Gentoo x86_64
Intel E2200
2g ram
Nvidia 9800gt, tested drivers 177.82 through 180.37 to no effect.
Alsa, no configuration options help, including turning sound off.
Kernel 2.6.29_rc8.
Wont paste a crash log as its identical to the others posted.

If the win98 mode for hl2.exe seems to fix it, and as I've noticed it uses the
older win9x fonts ingame, then might we just have to have the requisite fonts
that steam uses? Would installing mscorefonts on regular wine fix the problem?
If so, then it would seem we just need a few more free replacements. Correct me
if I'm wrong, but Tahoma Bold is used throughout steam, but the bold style
doesn't seem to be in the tahoma font provided by winehq. The only font I add
myself to my wineprefix is 'lucida console', for the hl2.exe console.
All in all, I would rather not have to install mscorefonts, so should we be
having a discussion focused more on which fonts are suspect?

--- Comment #38 from Anastasius Focht <focht(a)gmx.net> 2009-04-02 18:29:42 ---
Hello,
--- quote ---
Thanks, Anastasius. My first question is: are these dlls the same by their
exports?
--- quote ---
At the time of Win95 the Operating System one and Office9x shipped one were
probably similar in exports/functionality.
Nowadays oleaut32 versions are much more evolved than Office9x shipped one
which dates back to 1996.
--- quote ---
Then Wine could just simply fake one dll with another.
--- quote ---
As long as Office 97 components don't depend on internal
features/quirks/behaviour of that old oleaut32.dll, yes.
For tests just symlink oleaut32.dll.so to 32autole.dll.so and change the load
order to builtin-then-native. A placeholder in system32 is not needed.
--- quote ---
The second is: couldn't that be some other bug in Wine which prevents
32autole.dll from registering "stdole32.tlb" in v2 format correctly? Of
course, I could take the TLB from Wine tree and investigate this on real
Windows myself.
--- quote ---
If you question my analysis you are free to investigate.
--- quote ---
The third question (not so personal) would be:
Couldn't ITypeLib2_Constructor_SLTG() be used (from dlls/oleaut32/typelib.c) to
generate v1 format in Wine?
--- quote ---
You refer to the typelib loading part.
What you need is v1 typelib writer code like Wine's IDL compiler does for v2
typelibs (write_msft.c).
Regards

While not critical, it is quite annoying. The cursor is drawn without
transparency (appears black). Then, while moving the cursor, it inherits
artifacts from various parts of the screen. This gets in the way of the game,
as it is a "point-n-click" game and you need to be able to accurately click on
objects. I have died more than once due to this bug.
This happens with all 0.9.x releases up to 0.9.60 and including the most recent
git version.
I would like to assist in resolving, but I need some guidence as to how to
track down the issue. I assume the program is using a software cursor and the
code in DirectX8 related to that would be a good starting point.

In re: #33
|
| All typelib registration stuff goes through "32autole.dll" a.k.a.
OLEAUT32.DLL
| Wine's builtin one is not used at that time
...
| Basically it boils down to LoadTypeLib() and RegisterTypeLib() problems of
| "stdole32.tlb".
...
| It turned out that the shipped ole automation bootstrapper expects
| "stdole32.tlb" in v1 format (ICreateTypeLib/SGLT), not the v2 format wine
| currently provides (ICreateTypeLib2/MSFT).
| When manually generating a v1 typelib using ICreateTypeLib and embedding into
| PE it successfully loads and registers.
Thanks, Anastasius. My first question is: are these dlls the same by their
exports? Then Wine could just simply fake one dll with another.
The second is: couldn't that be some other bug in Wine which prevents
32autole.dll from registering "stdole32.tlb" in v2 format correctly? Of
course, I could take the TLB from Wine tree and investigate this on real
Windows myself.
The third question (not so personal) would be:
Couldn't ITypeLib2_Constructor_SLTG() be used (from dlls/oleaut32/typelib.c) to
generate v1 format in Wine?
Here is some links I've stuck upon today that raised these questions up for me:

I recently ran into this problem as well. In the end it turned out to be due
to what comment #8 refers to already: if you mount the installation CDs/ISOs of
Diablo II with the 'unhide' option (as AcetoneISO does, for example), your
installation will be contain corrupted files. Installing Lord of Destruction
will fail when it tries to update one of those corrupted files.
So I think this is not a wine bug.

The appdb entry is hidden because it doesn't have any test results,
but in the description it says
"GUI works fine, but storing data in gravity's internal database doesn't work.
So at this time is unusable "
So if it can load data from a previous run without dcom98, I guess we should
mark this bug as fixed.

I tried Microplanets Gravity 2.7 and typical NNTP tasks worked fine under
wine1.1.18. I also did a compact database, no problem (it's a fresh database
anyway).
The post in the bug description doesn't specify the bug ("database problems")
and the appdb page it mentions http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=615
just returns an error, so I can't see exactly what was the bug to reproduce it.
See attachment of terminal output for a simple run of Gravity.

I've got a workaround. See attachments!
1. use a crack
2. automatically create a graphics profile
3. edit the generated TDR2000.gfx in the game root dir
What to edit:
1. change second line to "0"
2. optionally change third line to select another graphics profile (e. g. "2")
3. change forth line to "0"
4. change the selected resolution for every profile in the file
There is a line "1,2" at the end of each resolution list and in the next line
stands the selected resolution. I selected for my 22" TFT 1680,1050,16,0 and
the result is that I can play the game in 3D at 50 Hz 1680x1050.
My config:
- AMD Athlon X2 5400
- Nvidia Geforce 7900GS (driver from Nvidia)
- wine 1.1.4 CrossOver Games 7.1.2 winXP Profile

Well, I did some experimenting around this bug.
This context applies throughout:
$ cd "$WINEPREFIX/drive_c/Program Files/Deus Ex - Invisible War/System"
The following attempts failed with exactly the bug reported here:
$ wine DX2.exe
$ wine 'c:/Program Files/Deus Ex - Invisible War/System/DX2.exe'
amazingly, though, the following has successfully launched the game
$ wine 'c:\Program Files\Deus Ex - Invisible War\System\DX2.exe'
Comment #12 hinted at this, but perhaps not explicitly enough!

Works fine here although I had to "winetricks mfc40 mfc42" to allow the
installer to complete.

It's regular gcc stuff, not particular to Wine. If you're running from the
source tree, should work fine, unless you used --strip or messed with CFLAGS.

I can confirm that the fix in comment #3,
"commenting out a line in the dlls/user32/dialog.c file (in the 0.9.29 version
it is line 894: if (hwnd == GetActiveWindow()) WINPOS_ActivateOtherWindow( hwnd
);)"
still works with wine 1.1.16 and Orcad 7.2. Hopefully this will go into wine
1.2, and I can quit patching all my systems ;)
If it matters I'm on FreeBSD 7.1, which reports wine-1.1.16 as the current
supported release.

Original bug report crash log
GTA San Andreas crashes right after the logo. This is exactly the same problem
that has been reported here (
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3780 ) by a Daiger
on 30, July 2008, crashing at exactly the same address. Does not seem to be the
same bug as 17504.
My system: GeForce FX5200, NVIDIA 173.14.18 DD, Debian 64-bit.
I have started a thread at the forums about this that might contain some useful
information ( http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=4299 ).

Well i've downloaded latest git-wine and this gave same output. I tried to
google do i need to pass something special to configure to make it work with
debuging, but nothing there (beside awful long posts about stuff i don't
understand).
So how do i compile wine to throw "right" backtraces ? We really should get
simple guide for newbies with that...

Tested with Wine 1.1.18 and it all looked pretty good. There were a few areas
for me where the ground appeared black, but nothing major.
I did have one unhandled exception but I believe that this was related to
mciseq, and I couldn't recreate it anyway.

@Jan: What shading backend did you use for testing this with wine? GLSL or ARB?
This looks definitely interesting. The linux ATI driver seems to implement the
NaN behaviour from native D3D.
Well, I think it's pretty much random how this could turn out, since it's
nowhere defined how NaN is mapped....

Sorry, must've missed it. If you installed a binary, look for a -dev or -debug
package and install it. You should see source code lines in the backtrace.
If not, you'll have to compile from source.

There seems to be a bug in which the sky in the beginning of the game is all
white. This didn't happen in Windows XP. There's a screenshot of this in the
screenshot gallery of the game:
http://appdb.winehq.org/appimage.php?iId=12288
I think this happened on Vista though I can't confirm that at the moment, but
it definitely worked fine on XP. Unfortunately as there are no error messages
that I'm aware of that happen when this glitch occurs I can't post anything
here regarding that.

When executing X-Plane 7.60 it works fine (also installation) but when you
close it, then it crashes the GUI: all the screen is black flashing. If you are
able to close the session and reopen it again, the system comes back to
normality.
It seems that it is not able to come back from a resolution 1024x780 to
1280x1024 and it becomes crazy.
Anyway how could I get debug information from the process.

Using Electronic Workbench MultiSim 8, I go to global restrictions, and I get a
username-less password prompt. Have no idea if this is multisim or wine
related, but my teacher whom has been using multisim since version 7 (now 10)
has never seen it before in windows. help. Attachment shows the applications
open with the password prompt, and the terminal output in a yakuake window
(just a dropdown terminal, google it). The Fixme: secur32: getusernameexa lines
were written during the application launch (splash screen). Nothing above them,
they just repeat all the way back to the prompt, with nothing else.

We should probably do some of these checks:
vs.1.1
mov oPos, v0
rcp r3.x, c0.x
mov oD0, r3.xxxx;
I assume rcp produces +INFTY in r3.x, which should result in 0xffffffff (full
white) after oD0 is converted to RGBA (it should be clamped then, right?)
Then insert some scaling after rcp, for example with a 0.5 factor.
The current hack assumes that data is already clamped right after rcp, but I
think this is wrong. Adding the scaling shouldn't make a difference, however it
does if we clamp right after rcp.

I don't think clamping makes sense for the rcp instr. According to the D3D8
docs the vertexshader knows the concept of INFTY.
IMHO MUL is the problem. Or another possibility: The conversion from a 4-float
vec to a RGBA value (oD0).
In the case that oD0 contains NaN, what RGBA does this map to? Maybe there lies
the problem..

FWIW, I think clamping makes sense for 1.x pshaders. Shader constants for
example are clamped there as well, and it'd be consistent with the hardware
capabilities at the time.

hack for rcp in glsl backend
As an experiment, this simple hack for glsl shader backend seems to actually
fix lighting in the game, it clamps result of rcp.
Though proper fix probably will need to be done conditionally (need to check my
theory that this is influenced by shader model version) and if indeed 1.x
differs from 2.x and later in such ways (generating and propagating Inf and NaN
vs clamping to some border value), then it's probably a broader issue and may
also be affecting other opcodes like rsq.

I found this paper:
http://http.download.nvidia.com/developer/Papers/2005/FP_Specials/FP_Specia…
That seems to suggest 0 * +Inf = NaN.
But, it also mentions that this applies to hardware/implementation that
supports floating point operations and floating point special numbers like Inf
and NaN. I'm not sure, but maybe in the old d3d8 days there was no floating
point and thus no NaNs or Infs, so, basically, divide by zero was clamped to
max value like "1.0" or something like that?

Sorry, I just read the post again.
The problem seems to be in MUL, right?
I mean the D3D rcp behaviour is probably right, since the D3D8 docs mention
that RCP(0.0) produces +INFTY. It's not so clear for ARB_vp and GLSL, at least
I don't find anything in the docs (yet).
But what's +INFTY times ZERO? I found no clue about that in the D3D8 docs.
The ARB_vp docs only mention this:
---------------------------------------------------
The following rules apply to multiplication:
1. <x> * <y> == <y> * <x>, for all <x> and <y>.
2. +/-0.0 * <x> = +/-0.0, at least for all <x> that correspond to
representable numbers (IEEE "not a number" and "infinity" encodings
may be exceptions).
3. +1.0 * <x> = <x>, for all <x>.
Multiplication by zero and one should be invariant, as it may be used to
evaluate conditional expressions without branching.
---------------------------------------------------
So we're experiencing case 2 here?!
I can't say I understand the last part properly. To me this sounds like
multiplying by ZERO should always produce ZERO, regardless of the other factor.

Concerning the RCP instr, you probably wanna take a look at this bug:

There seems to be more problems with RCP apart from the one you describe.

rcp of 0 testcase
A while ago I spent some time debugging this, and as far as I can tell the
problem originates in the vertex shader, and it has something to do with taking
a reciprocal of zero (supposed to produce infinity afaik) then multiplying it
by zero. On windows this seems to result in a black color (i.e. zero) on wine -
white. And least this contributes a part of the problem, I believe.
Unfortunately I got busy / lazy and never finished fixing this. I'm trying to
look into it again now, put together a testcase for this. Renders a black quad
on windows and white quad on wine, on my machine. But this needs to be tested
on non-nvidia machines. This stuff with divide by zero - I'm not sure it's
well-defined behavior at all.

A simple input file that will demonstrate the problem.
ExpressPCB allows for the layout of printed circuit boards. You can either
order the boards made, or print out the pcb layout and make your own. This
problem relates to making your own boards.
Each circuit board trace has a half-circle at each end of the trace. The
printed output does not have these half-circles. Thus, traces do not connect
properly.
This problem occurs in Wine release 1.0 and 1.1.16 under Linux(Ubuntu 8.04).
The Wine package was installed using the Ubuntu package manager (Synaptic) from
your web site (binary). The application runs correctly under Windows 98 and
Windows XP.
When you install the application (I used the XP version), two programs are
created (ExpressPCB and ExpressSCH). This problem relates to ExpressPCB.
To duplicate this problem, run ExpressPCB and open the attached input file:
File->Open...->(the input file)
Note that the two traces have half-circles at each end of each trace.
Now, print the (very simple) layout.
File->Print...
In the resulting dialog box:
Select the appropriate printer (PDF is ok as the printer)
Check the box "Bottom copper layer"
Select a paper size
Select a paper source
Check the box "Enlarge to fit page"
Click OK
Note in the printed output the half-circles are missing.

Summary: FineReader 7 Pro: won't save to multiple files.
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.1
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: adam.buchbinder(a)gmail.com
I'm running the ABBYY FineReader 7.0 try-and-buy under wine. The installer
package is here:
http://www.soft32.com/download/63-83213-1/FR70pro_eng.exe
FineReader allows page data to be saved in several formats, including
one-page-per-file, which functions under Windows. However, when trying to save
the text output of a batch under wine, even if one-page-per-file mode is
selected, the text is output entirely to a single file.
This would be a severe impediment to FineReader's functionality--it's used
heavily to prepare texts for Distributed Proofreaders, which takes input in
one-page-per-file form--but there's a straightforward workaround: FineReader
allows you to delimit pages within one-big-file mode with 0x0c; a simple perl
script can split the files by page. In light of that, I'm submitting this as a
minor bug.
Please let me know what kind of debug logs and/or backtraces you'd like me to
produce, or if you'd like me to attach a FineReader batch so you can reproduce
the issue.
I'm running wine 1.0.1-0ubuntu2 on Ubuntu Intrepid.
This was previously reported at the Ubuntu bug tracker here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/309779

Since I was able to run FFXI on a NVIDIA card, I think it's an ATI-specific
issue. Unfortunately I cannot use the previous version of the driver (8.8) as
there is a known screen corruption issue with WINE, and the radeonHD driver
does not support 3D on this card yet.
I can provide full logs and screenshots if needed, as well as additional
information on my hardware.

Summary: Null character comparison problem in vb6 application
Product: Wine

simple vb6 chr0 comparison project
I've found a BIG problem in VB6 string (BSTR) comparison.
The VB6 program perform this very simple check. In Windows s is different from
chr$(0) (null char) but in wine NOT!
s = ""
If s = Chr$(0) Then MsgBox "ERROR, MUST NOT BE EQUAL!!!" Else MsgBox "OK!"
[see attachment]
This is a major bug, since chr$(0) is used in many ways in vb6 (and also in
API)
I've tried this simple program in Wine 0.9.49 and wine 1.1.2 with the same
result.
I think this bug should be fixed for wine 1.2!

Summary: Metal Fatigue: crashes before game start
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.1
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: grsfdhj(a)tiscali.it
Created an attachment (id=15027)

Console output from wine while running Metal Fatigue
Game installs fine from the CDs, but needs a NO-CD crack to circumvent the copy
protection it has.
After applying the crack, the game starts successfully and the main menu
appears (the intro movie is skipped because of the unavailability of the video
codec, but that's not the problem here).
Various d3d7 errors are displayed on the shell (reported in the attachment) but
they are not blocking the menu from displaying and working correctly.
As soon as I choose to start a multiplayer game or a skirmish, the game shows a
screen for a bunch of seconds, then crashes to desktop.
If I choose to start a new campaign, I can select which campaign to start
(there are 3: Rimtech, Milagro and Neuropa), but, after this, the game crashes
to desktop because of an unhandled exception (as you can see in the log
attached).
I'm running on a Slamd64 12.0 machine, with a Athlon 64 FX 55 (single core)
CPU, 1GB RAM and an ATI Radeon X800XT (with 8.7 Catalyst drivers). This same
crash occurs even on a HP Pavillion ze4900 laptop I have (Intel Celeron M 1.2
Ghz, 512 MB RAM, Intel GMA 82855 Graphics card) running Slackware 12.1, so I
believe it is not related only to a 64 bit enviroment or to ATI proprietary
graphics card drivers.
I tried installing the game in a clean WINEPREFIX, but this didn't change
anything.
I've set wine to run as "Windows 98" and "Windows XP", but the crash still
happens in both cases.
Tell me what information you need and I will provide it.

Summary: winhelp: Vertical scroll bar is missing in some cases
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.0
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
Sometimes the vertical scroll bar is incorrectly omitted, when there is text
past the bottom of the window.
To demonstrate, download chess.hlp from
http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=14571
Start Wine winhlp32, and without resizing its window, open chess.hlp. Click on
"Article: What is GNU Chess". The bottom line is not shown but there is no
vertical scroll bar. If you resize the window (e.g. reduce its width to make it
narrower) the scroll bar may appear, but sometimes it does not, depending on
the exact width you resize to.
