Is this still an issue in current (1.1.11 or newer) wine? Please update the url
with a download showing the problem.

When started gives the error message "We have detected that your GPU (video

requirements". My graphics card, a GeForce 7600 GS, was supported just fine in
Windows. The only console output error was: "fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW
((null),0,0x32f82c,0x00000000), stub!"
Installed the 1.31 client from the official website, installed and ran with
Wine. Did nothing special. My personal guess: Dawnspire uses some way to detect
compatible graphics devices that Wines doesn't support yet.

It appeared that FASMW (flat assembler's Win32 IDE) won't run with WINE
(launching from Konqueror), simply nothing happens.
But out of curiousity I tried launching it from the already running WinRAR.
And it did ran! Normally.
Something to consider about.
And other thing which maybe connected.
µTorrent runs normally (again, launching from Konqueror), but when I launched
from WinRAR some weird thing occured: the gridlist window where torrents are
listed was in black colour (normally it's standart white).
That's all I guess.
In hope that you will solve the FASMW issue,
Regards.

There are a lot of these messages:
fixme:d3d_texture:IWineD3DTextureImpl_PreLoad Texture (0xf2d8050) has been
reloaded at least 20 times due to WINED3DSAMP_SRGBTEXTURE changes on it's

If I comment out the reloading code the slowdown is gone, but that causes the
elliptical part of the wall behind the portal to be brighter when it's opening.

While it's still quite slow changing a name, the program doesn't became slow.
As soon as the renaming is done, it resumes working normally.
So this bug should be changed to FIXED by unknown reasons ;).

Update:
The game Pariah IS grabbing the mouse. Just try the demo:
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/7324/Pariah+Singleplayer+Demo
I've tested it and confirmed on Windows XP Professional. Just go to Video
Options->Advanced->Windowed mode. When in menu, the mouse is not grabbed. When
the game loads, the mouse IS grabbed and user cannot move it outside of the
game's screen (needs to alt-tab). On WINE, mouse just goes out of the game's
window (as on windows, but in the game's menu). Pariah is touching the mouse
pointer and it is grabbing it. At some point, WINE should grab the mouse.
So, the approach WINE developers took is ok, but avoiding mouse grabbing is too
restrictive. I'll try to discover what function is making the grab.

WINEDEBUG=warn+opengl,+wgl,+x11drv fails with a GLX error
I've noticed this bug for several months now, and can't remember exactly when
it started. Basically, I am running World of Warcraft using both Wine and Mesa
from their respective git repositories. My PC is a dual P4 Xeon machine, with
hyperthreading enabled, so that I have four virtual CPUs. I am using a Radeon
9550 graphics card.
When I run WoW in OpenGL mode, then one of three things happens:
a) WoW completely fails to start, and reports this error:
X Error of failed request: GLXBadDrawable
Major opcode of failed request: 156 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 586
Current serial number in output stream: 586
b) WoW runs fine(-ish), albeit slowly. (But maybe that's just Mesa's R300
support)
c) The entire X server crashes, and the Xorg.0.log file reports a SIGSEGV while
calling __glxDeassociateContext.
So assuming that I don't crash the X server first, I can eventually get WoW to
start just by trying to run it again and again. It sounds like there might be
some hideous sort of race condition in the context-handling code.

the screen is (1280x1024 pixels). Catia is running inside a window and 852x862
should be the size of the OpenGL view inside this.
I filed this bug in the hope it rings a bell somewhere and/or somebody has an
idea how to find out what's missing here. This is an Intel G31 graphics running
Ubuntu 8.04. Other (native) OpenGL apps run fine.

Summary: FLSynthmaker does not respond to mouse clicks

FL Studio has within it a plugin called Synthmaker (sometimes referred to as
FLSynthmaker to distinguish it from the standalone product of the same name).
Get the FL Studio demo here: http://www.flstudio.com/documents/download.html
Once inside the demo of FL Studio go to menu Channels-->Add One-->Synthmaker.
The Synthmaker plugin opens a window that has it's own set of menus and a
graphical editor in which components are drag/dropped, wires connected, etc.
The bug is that clicking the left mouse button on those menus and graphical
objects produces no effect/response. Note also that the menu bar buttons
themselves are supposed to exhibit roll-over behaviour but do not (possibly a
different bug).

fails quickly with
Setup is unable to open the data file 'C:\~MSSETUP.T\~msstfof.t\Off97Pro.stf';
run Setup again from where you originally ran it."
This happens even though I can read the file Off96Pro.stf on the
cdrom. Oddly, adding +file or running under strace gets past that
-- but as soon as you enter your license key, it pops up again.
Copying that file manually right before entering the license key
gets a bit further, but not too much.
Other apps (PS 7, PS CS2) install fine.

It may be an nvidia drivers bug, but 100.14.19 and 169.12 give the same result.

It's just a cosmetic thing though :^)

The splash and About windows of probably all versions of
Photoshop, and for that matter Picasa, tend to have a central
opaque portion surrounded by a transparant portion.
The transparant portion is not rendered properly.
It's good enough to fool you sometimes; it's as
if it samples the background once and does the
transparancy properly then, but from then on
acts as if it's opaque, keeping the originally computed
sample of the background no matter what the real
background does.
Believe it or not, this really annoys some users.
The About screen of Photoshop 7 is a good place to see
why it's a bit annoying; ugly debris from the Help menu
is captured in amber while the About screen is still up.

The application is a lot more usable now, and produces way less memory errors.

Anyway, the compression and decompression functions should be implemented for
it to work fully. But meanwhile, the patches are a good way to make it work, at

I tried to look at the source of a problem ... but after I run this
WINEDEBUG=+relay wine Gothic3.exe
an error message popped up (with SmartHeapLibrary -> MEM_BAD_POINTER) and the
game exits. Is there a workaround for this MEM_BAD_POINTER bug?
Here are som information about this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910466/de
Or is the problem anywhere else? Running wine Gothic3.exe didn't show this
message. The problem is in wine under OS=WinXP and OS=2000.

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement

Created an attachment (id=9421)

Additional traces to allow bug to be seen
When building the argv array to send to a new process started by another within
wine, the function build_argv in dlls/kernel32/process.c fails to return an
array argv correctly.
In the case of msiexec being the target program, this has necessitated a custom
command line parse that reconstructs the the correct argv.
Application that highlights this behaviour is the Excel Viewer installer.
The problem was discovered when examining bug 9628 to see why a patch to use
the standard command line parser call was reverted in favour of a custom parser
internal to msiexec.
You will need to apply the attached patch to be able to see the broken
behaviour, it basically adds some additional traces and also increases the
debug buffer so that the full command line can be seen when using the debug
functions to print.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Apply patch, rebuild wine, and install as necessary. adds TRACES that allow
you to see the contents of argv
2. Download the Microsoft Excel Viewer 2003 installer from Microsoft
3. Run the installer with the following environment variable set on the command
line "WINEDEBUG=+msiexec,+process"
4. Check for the lines outputting
"trace:process:build_argv cmdlineW = ..." command line being sent to new
process
"trace:process:build_argv resulting argv[]" + a number of lines following
outputting the contents of the constructed argv array.
"trace:msiexec:main argv[0]..." and a number of lines following.
5. Exit installation dialogs by cancelling
6. Run installation of msi directly by using the command line printed out by
the first trace described in step 4.
7. You should see the difference between what is outputted by the trace
displaying "trace:msiexec:main argv[0]..." in step 4 and step 6. The argv seen
by msiexec in running step 3 should appear exactly the same as step 6.
Results Observed:
Command line run using built area:
WINEPREFIX=/tmp/winebug9628/ WINEDEBUG=+msiexec,+process ./wine
~/tmp/xlviewer.exe

DNS9 Preferred no longer runs as of 21-Nov-2007 git.
Until now, installation has been done using Dan Kegel's Winetricks and DCOM98,
plus a couple of other things (DOCBJ.DLL, GDIPLUS).
As of yesterday, DNS9 still installs and trains, but the engine does not work.
I believe it has to do with WINE attempting a native solution to DCOM98.
So maybe this shouldn't be considered a bug...?
However, I was anxious to report it, since the same bug seems to have kept
DNS9.5 Standard from operating correctly. (Standard has NEVER run,even with
WINETRICKS.)

I can run VALVE's Steam just fine. When I attempt to launch Team Fortress 2, a

However, it appears that this window is never rendered to - it basically shows

I can Alt-Tab back through my desktop windows, and Steam continues to work, but

Summary: Flash Player 8/9 ActiveX Control: animations flicker

When running Flash Player as an ActiveX control inside another program,
flickering appears as regions are redrawn. This behavior appears in at least
two programs:
* Internet Explorer 6 (through the ies4linux project)
* IMVU (http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3927&iTestingId=2551)
I know that ies4linux is unsupported by the WINE team, but since identical
behavior appears in another executable that embeds Flash, I think it's a
problem with WINE.
I am using the current GIT version of WINE (wine-0.9.45-g8d1a859).
Things I have discovered:
* The Flash plugin for Firefox works fine
* Using the latest nvidia and nv drivers does nothing to improve the situation
** Hardware: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV44 [Quadro
NVS 285] (rev a1)
** Nvidia driver: 100.14.19
* I have tried multiple versions of the Flash ActiveX control, including:
** Flash9e.ocx (prerelease, see
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer9.html)
** Flash9c.ocx
** Flash8d.ocx
* The Flash 8 control flickers in a different but equally unacceptable way
To reproduce the problem in IE, download the Flash ActiveX control from Adobe
and then go to a site with Flash (e.g. www.youtube.com). To reproduce the
problem in IMVU, check Settings -> Use Text Chat and then click "My Room". The
text chat box is a flash widget and flickers quite noticeably.
You can obtain different versions of the ActiveX control from Adobe here:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266
Please let me know if I can provide more information.

Here's a short java program that behaves correctly on linux and windows, but
not under wine. The program exercises a small part of the java awt toolkit.
1. Create a file with the following contents:
import java.awt.Component;
import java.awt.Container;
import java.awt.Frame;
import java.awt.Point;
public class Bug {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Frame f = new Frame();
Container cont = new Container();
Component comp = new Component(){};
f.add(cont);
cont.add(comp);
f.setSize(100, 100);
f.setVisible(true);
cont.setBounds(10, 10, 80, 80);
comp.setBounds(10, 10, 60, 60);
Point frameLoc = f.getLocationOnScreen();
Point compLoc = comp.getLocationOnScreen();
// The component now should have
// (frameLoc.x + 20 + i.left, frameLoc.y + 20 + i.top).
System.out.printf("a.x=%d, a.y=%d / b.x=%d, b.y=%d\n",
compLoc.x, compLoc.y, frameLoc.x, frameLoc.y);
f.dispose();
}
}
2. Compile it:
javac Bug.java
3. Download a JDK from java.sun.com and install it in Wine
4. Use it to run Bug.class, e.g.
cd '.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Java/jre1.6.0_01'
cp ~/Bug.class .
wine bin/java.exe Bug
5. Returns inconsistent results under wine. Under linux and windows it
consistently returns "a.x=20, a.y=20 / b.x=0, b.y=0". Occasionally wine returns
correct results, but repeated invocations of the application should produce
inconsistent results (e.g. "a.x=16, a.y=-3 / b.x=-4, b.y=-23").

Summary: WoW 2.2 fails to initialise audio
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: winehq-bugzilla(a)six-by-nine.com.au
As requested by Vitamin, I've now built Wine from GIT and set audio to
OSS/Emulated. WoW 2.2 continues to appear to hang on startup. If one waits long
enough one receives a crash that looks mightily similar to random crashes seen
under Vista.
I've attached a WINEDEBUG=+dsound trace, along with the crash report eventually
generated by WoW itself.
I set VERSION here to CVS, as I presume that's suitable for git - no one in
#winehq could confirm whether I should do this or not.

I trimmed the excessive fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_CreateSurface Trying to
create a render target that isn't in the default pool FIXME's to save space,
but otherwise it's the full output

--- Comment #199 from Tomasz Sałaciński <tsalacinski(a)gmail.com> 2008-12-28 10:37:40 ---
Anything new on this? I've tried to patch it, almost did it. Tried under Star
Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
The problem is, that mouse warping SHOULD be done by winex11.drv.
The other problem is, that it cannot be in fixed positoin on the middle of the
screen, because most games won't work (like KOTOR, we cannot rely on some
function that one game does but other not). Workaround for all games seems to
me like that:
If I move the cursor outside the virtual desktop, game is not receiving any
mouse events - that's good. Warping mouse all the time will break normal
applications running in virtual desktop mode (for example, if user will click
the titlebar and try to drag the window outside of the desktop - mouse will
jump back to the middle and confuse the user)
If I right-click and try to turn, mouse cursor disappears, and the game is
receiving events event if the mouse cursor is outside of the game's screen
(checked it - MotionNotify event in winex11.drv - dumps mouse position on every
move).
There's how I did it:
Game window size is 1024x768. If the x coordinate of mouse pointer is > 1024,
then XWarpPointer moves it back to 1024 - it gives smooth turn in KOTOR (moving
it to the middle of the screen, eg. 512 makes turning choppy, because the game
thinks that user moved the mouse back to 512). The same with x < 0, if it
reaches value less than zero it jumps back to 0. Thanks to that, mouse look is
smooth in this game, user can scroll 360 ten times without moving mouse back to
the view. Mouse events are received only when mouse is grabbed, so it won't
affect normal desktop apps, and in the menu, mouse will just stop when it
reaches the edge of the screen (winex11.drv will stop it, not the xserver).
There is one disadvatange, though:
It works only, when the desktop window is on the middle of the screen. When it
is in fullscreen mode, mouse touches physical edge of the screen, thus it's not
receiving events (actually it is, but mouse moves by 4 pixels only - seems that
it's the window border). So, the movement is slow, but still works.
X will not send events if mouse pointer moves outside the desktop.
So, my patch is almost done, but it needs one thing:
- X should send mouse events to WINE even if the pointer goes x = -112 (this
happens when the virtual desktop window is on the middle of the screen - -112
is relative to the virtual desktop window) - IMHO best solution
- Fullscreen apps should have bigger border - it won't be visible on fullscreen
apps, but will allow to receive mouse events. One disadvatange: won't work in
virtual desktop mode placed on the left side of the screen.
I've made a lot of testing yesterday, so I think this approach will be the best
one. Warping mouse all the time (especially to the middle of the window) will
break a lot of desktop apps.

sorry for separating in 3 files but it's easier for me if i submit to

Confirming and changing summary, component.
We've had winemenubuilder add a "StartupWMClass=Wine" entry to .desktop files
it generates for a while now (I wrote that patch). This should turn the mouse
cursor to an hourglass and make a "Starting ..." tab on your window list until
the application opens a window.
.desktop entries made by very old (long before 1.0) versions of Wine won't have
this entry, so you should reinstall the application with a recent version of
Wine.
Testing done on Ubuntu 8.10 with Gnome 2.24.1 and a Wine git just after 1.1.10
compiled from source.
* When you start an application from the menus it works.
* It doesn't work when you double-click on an .EXE from nautilus, even with the
"StartupWMClass=Wine" key in wine.desktop.
* It doesn't work for .desktop files on the Desktop either, only those in the
menus. Even if you copy a .desktop entry from the menus to the Desktop, it
still doesn't work.
Maybe we need to support the full startup notification spec
(http://standards.freedesktop.org/startup-notification-spec) but it's long and
seems unnecessary.
I'll try do some investigating, the missing functionality seems more due to
Ubuntu/Gnome bugs than Wine.

i used those msdn links to stub the functions. i only have the ability to stub
right now sorry, implementation is not my strong...
i figured it would have those memory problems since we aren't compressing or
uncompressing anything :\ i might try this for other return values or something
but most of what i could try is done.
maybe someone else wants to take the work on?

Running under wine with the 3 patches
It seems we are lucky :D The connections are now established, but the app is
mostly unusable. When trying to manage the remote PC, a lot of memory access
violation errors (and also other errors) appear in popups, but the app doesn't
crash. Some of the functionality works, at least partially (eg: you can
navigate through the registry, but you can't see the key's names). So I think
that if you can implement RtlCompressBuffer and RtlDecompressBuffer most of the
application would work.
Also, setupapi.dll.SetupDiDestroyClassImageList seems to be missing. Is a stub
needed for this one?
Looking forward to hearing from you!

I found terragen 0.8.44 at http://www.brothersoft.com/terragen-76007.html .
However, after installing the program, I can't follow the exact instructions
either.
The closest I can get is by going to either:
View > Cloudscape > Edit Cloud Color
Landscape -> Surface Map -> Edit -> Tex
The terminal is filled with repeats of:
fixme:ole:OleLoadPictureEx
(0xb51ffc,4718,0,{7bf80980-bf32-101a-8bbb-00aa00300cab},x=0,y=0,f=0,0x32ec18),
partially implemented.
fixme:ole:OLEPictureImpl_SaveAsFile (0x118a5a0)->(0x1197e20, 0, (nil)), hacked
stub.

Created an attachment (id=18247)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=18247)
stub for RtlDecompressBuffer
ok, as you can see the other 2 functions of the previous log are no longer
called.
apply this new patch and we'll go from there.
i have a feeling the app won't work with only stubs, but hey let's try, we
might be lucky :p
