Summary: Symbol font inaccessible (noticed in klsoft.de's

Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.10
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.klsoft.de/download/klasse5.exe
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: fonts
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

The author of bug 14120 wrote:
[1. Fonts: ... "Symbol" Font is missing]
To reproduce:
unzip http://www.klsoft.de/download/klasse5.exe
cd "KLSoft - Mathematik"
wine "Klasse 5 Demoversion.exe"
Click on the lower right button "Bedienungsanleitung"
A help window will pop up.
There is supposed to be a bulleted list, but
the bullets are either rendered as squares or
are missing.
Workaround: copy file symbol.ttf from Microsoft Windows to ~/.fonts
Annoyingly, the font "Standard Symbol L" (a urw font which is preinstalled
on Ubuntu Intrepid /usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/s050000l.*,
see also
http://svn.ghostscript.com/viewvc/trunk/ghostpdl/urwfonts/StandardSymL.ttf
and
http://svn.ghostscript.com/viewvc/trunk/urw-fonts/StandardSymL.afm )
should have the needed symbols, but wine doesn't seem to be able to use it.
Intrepid doesn't come with the .ttf version of that font, but downloading
it and copying it into ~/.font doesn't help like copying the Microsoft
one does.
Hmm, why isn't that font available to wine and/or why aren't the symbols found?

Hello,
the movies in C&C: Tiberian Sun are very slow.
Tested with wine-1.1.11 in a clean WINEPREFIX.
I also applied this trick which is explained in the appdb:

This makes no difference.
I have created a short capture where you can see the problem:

Won't download updates unless you have a tomtom connected. Please retest in

Whenever you get a chance, get a +msxml log. The d3d crash should be a separate
bug.

by comparing swcad under wine and under windows I noticed other MDI glitches:
1) Tabs should include an icon and they do not
2) When a pane is minimized in wine only an icon appears, while in windows a
small "application bar" appears, complete with the icon and the "maximize",
"restore" and "kill" buttons.

Hey guys,
I'm getting an issue that Portal renders a small rectangle box which has a grey

shouldn't be there. It is indeed a bug. The screenshot is attached below.
It happens on both full screened and windowed mode.
My system specifications:

320GB system drive
500GB data drive
4GB DDR2-667
OpenSUSE 11 (x86-64)

I have a similar problem with the excel VBA macros that has some user forms in
it. I tried to use DCOM98 and also WINE (builtin and native and also vice
versa) to open and execute macros written in MSExcel 2003. I get the
"SystemError &h80040110" and out of memory errors and the form never opens.
Since, there is not much activity on this bug since sometime, I just wanted to
know if this is a bug that is solved or if is there a workaround, so that WINE
can be used to open and execute VBA macros(having forms) in excel files.
P.S: The VBA macros that do not have forms work well with WINE.

There are lots of

messages, and I can't figure out how to quit the game, but it is starting.
If I find the CD, I'll test that, too. But for now let's call this fixed.

See comment #11 - it's the game bug in dxlevel 60. Game won't use anything
higher then that without pixel shaders.
I'd say this bug is invalid. If drivers don't have PS then Wine can't provide
it either.

That won't work. Mouse will escape especially in FPS type of games where mouse
moves are fast and long.
The combination of fixing PointerGrab and this might work.
(In reply to comment #197)
See comment #82 and comment #83. Don't know if those patches still apply to
current GIT.

I was having some issues while running warcraft III online. I noticed that I
only received message from some players and not from everyone. I investigated a
little bit into this.
It seems that within the same wine session, you cannot bind the same port
twice, even if the first server socket is closed.
I created a test program which had the following flow:
Create a server socket
Accept a socket connection by a client (telnet on linux in my case)
--do some stuff--
Close the client socket, close the server socket
Create another server socket bound on the same port
At this point I get an exception that the address is already used, however no
one is using it (telnet on linux replies with connection refused)
I don't know what else I have to paste in order to help you.

It is not really fixed, it depends on the graphics card. Basically that bug
occurs on all cards that do not support pixel shaders in Wine. That means it
affects Radeon 8500-9200 and Geforce 3 and 4 cards. Those have PS support in
Windows, but not in Wine. The GF78 Andrew tested with does have pixel shader
support however.
I don't know if this is the game's bug, or some other problem in Wine. The game
can deal with the lack of pixel shader support in principle. However, it sets
broken texture blending settings that lead to the whiteness. Someone could test
it on Windows on a geforce 2 or radeon 7500 card and see what happens

It starts for me using Wine 1.1.10, but most FX sounds don't work. It only
starts when using ALSA. Otherwise it says: Faild to initialize DirectSound.
The installer still exits at a proper state so I coied an installation from a
Virtualbox XP guest.
Unfortunately it crashes when we could hear the fire in the dome, but that
isn't this bug so I think this is solved.

That's different. Crysis' problem is that in the menu, the mouse is forced into
the middle because the 'force' option is permanently active. It won't even go
near the the window edge.
That's where force-box would help, only activating when needed (mouse near

Summary: Incorrect distro reported with 16 Dec 2008 Rites of War
v1.0 test result
Product: WineHQ Apps Database
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: appdb-unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dasnyderx(a)yahoo.com
The distro version reported on the 16 Dec 2008 test result for <a
href="http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?bIsQueue=false&bIsRejected=false&…">Rites
of War</a>, Slackeare, is incorrect. An internet query reports over 8.7
million hits for "slackeare", but (from what I can tell) this is just a
mispelling of 'slackware'. Firstly, you'll notice that the 'w' and 'e' keys
are next to each other on US-layout keyboards. So, a mistyped name in this
case has a high possibilty (which I think is the case with 'slackeare').
Secondly, the majority hits on the query reference slackware versions (i.e.,
9.1, 10.0, etc.). Thirdly, distrowatch returns the page for slackware when the
distro name, 'slackeare' is searched for. Fourthly, the URL given for the
distro is 'http://www.slackware.org', which (while being incorrect and
resolving to nothing) indicates that the distro is 'Slackware'. Fifthly, the
version reported with this 'distro' is 12.2 is the latest Slackware version and
the test report was made a couple of days after slack 12.2 was released. And,
finally, there is only 'one' (1) report for this distro. While I realize there
are other distros with only one test report, I've heard of (most of) the rest
of them (although the 'SoEasyAccounting.comLtd' distro is a new one on me).
Therefore, I would recommend that either: 1) the distro for this report be
modified to correctly reflect the distro (i.e., Slackware) with the correct URL
(i.e., http://www.slackware.com); or 2) the test report be removed.
Thanks for your time and attention to this matter.

Vitaliy, is there any chance of us getting a force-box option like suggested in
comment 128? This would really benefit a couple of games that use dinput in
their menus aswell, like Crysis for example.

This is a wont fix. The installer enumerates the available fonts and
(correctly) refuses to install a font if it's already in the list.

Bug is still present as of 1.1.10.
In the meantime LTSPICE is now called LTSPICE IV. Updated link to download is
http://ltspice.linear.com/software/LTspiceIV.exe. This software can be
downloaded and run by anybody.
Instructions to reproduce the MDI bug are as above:
1) open a sample circuit, they are provided in the example dir in the program
folder of the installed circuit simulator. For instance try the astable.asc
circuit among the "Educational" ones.
2) Press the simulation button or use the menu item Simulate -> Run
3) Wait for the plot pane to appear side to side with the circuit pane
4) Minimize the plot pane and then the circuit pane. Note that a spurious tab
appears in the multiple document interface
5) At this point there should be two overlapping icons in the bottom left
corner of the application window. Drag the top most one, so you can see both.
Note that when you drag an icon, if they were (partially or fully) overlapping
before, then the background of the other icon is (partially or fully) copied
too, which is clearly incorrect. This has probably to do with the fact that the
circuit icon has a transparent background.
6) Click on the circuit icon (the .asc one). The circuit pane appears, and one
more spurious tab does too.
At this point each document has both a "proper" tab and a "spurious" one.
Clicking on spurious tab performs no useful action. Also these tabs cannot be
closed.

Hi..
Thanks for the Patch.. sadly didn't fix the problem..
I have checked out a brand new git version to make shure i didnt f"*k up
something local on my machine.. applied your miditraces patch and deleted my
~/.wine folder before testing (it had nothing in it except the GT-Pro Tool
anyway)
Same effect: the transmission starts the midi-lights blink, and after a few
seconds it breaks..
nothing new except there is less logged to console..
I know this is the wrong place to ask a question like this, but:
how can i enable tracing to a log file?
Sorry for the stupid question.
regards

regardless of GG
Maplestory STILL Has DirectX Issues
Ive Done Some Testing And Found Out That Mostly This Problem Is Due Largely To
Kernel Level Lack Of Support [Mostly In Hal.dll, Kernel32.dll and ntkrnl.exe,
as well as the user32 and winedrv libraries]
In All Honesty Its Not Impossible To Implement. But My C Is Lacking.
Regardless Even If GG Was Functional In WINE We Would Still Have The DirectX
Issue
So We Can Bet That A Fully Functional MapleStory Is Quite A Few Major Releases
Away

Summary: asn.1-decoding OIDs with only two components fails
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.10
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: crypt32
AssignedTo: juan_lang(a)yahoo.com
ReportedBy: juan_lang(a)yahoo.com
Spotted this while playing with the new cryptui dialogs. They're probably the
easiest way to reproduce it, too.
As of today's git, to reproduce, apply the 15-patch series beginning here:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2008-December/066402.html
Assuming the patches are accepted, you can use git version 1.1.11 when it comes
out instead.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Find a program or write a small program that calls
CryptUIDlgViewCertificateA/W (Outlook and Chrome are two examples.)
2. Switch to the "Details" tab of the "Certificate" dialog.
3. Click "Edit Properties" in the "Details" tab.
4. Click "Enable only the following purposes for this certificate" in the
"Certificate Properties" dialog.
5. Click "Add Purpose". Add an OID with no more than two components in the
"Add Purpose" dialog and click OK. Example OIDs: 1.1, 2.2, 1.700
6. Click OK in the "Certificate Properties" dialog.
7. Click "Edit Properties" again in the "Certificate" dialog.
Expected behavior:
The OID you entered in step 5. appears in the OID list.
Actual behavior:
Some random OID appears instead.
Scanning traces shows that the correct OID is passed all the way through
CryptEncodeObjectEx and saved in the certificate's property list, but when it's
decoded the random OID comes back from CryptDecodeObjectEx.
Assigning to myself since I wrote all of the offending code.

Hello,
since wine-1.1.10 there is a regression that the effect
in Lineage2 that fades in NPCs when they spawn and fades them
out when they are dead does not work.
The NPCs suddenly appear or disappear.
Also there is the issue that the environment is loaded
much later and slower than in wine-1.1.9.

Ubuntu 8.10 (amd64)
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M

Terminal ourput and git bisect search results
The upgrade of wine 1.1.8 to 1.1.9 breaks program "braille2000", a
windows program used to enter braille.
I have had this program running on Ubuntu 8.04 for 6 months or more.
Recently did an update which took wine from 1.1.7 to 1.1.9 and the
program stopped working. Failure was in the authentication portion
of the program which contacts a server with password information.
I tested different versions and determined that the break hit between
versions 1.1.8 and 1.1.9.
In order to get this program running it is necessary to download
the file "winhttp.dll" and install in the .wine/.../system32 directory.
Once this is done the program works properly on wine 1.1.8 and prior.
With wine 1.1.9 if started in a terminal window the three error
lines are displayed:
fixme:winhttp:session_set_option unimplemented option 3
fixme:winhttp:session_set_option unimplemented option 6
fixme:winhttp:session_set_option unimplemented option 5
These lines above do not show up with the earlier versions of wine
which work correctly. (at least earlier versions I used)
Using "git bisect" with 1.1.8 defined as good and 1.1.9 defined
as bad I narrow the search to this patch:
$ git bisect good

SuddenStrike crashes, when I try to load a map. This happens always since
Version 1.1.3 till 1.1.7. Version 1.1.2 works. I'm using gentoo linux and I'm
not sure if I would mess up my system if I do a complete regression test
because I don't know how to implement a complete regression test in an ebuild.
A fresh .wine directory didn't fix it. If you want any special WINEDEBUG
channels please tell me.

This bug comes from this: #15766
In Rapid Uploader you can press Delete button to get a popup menu, but the
problem is that the menu is useless because it self closes about half second
after you click the button, not giving you the opportunity of selecting
anything.

Summary: Px-map crashes (probably caused because reading

Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT

Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: advapi32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: xerox_xerox2000(a)yahoo.co.uk
The application crashes somewhere in a function called GetDefaultBrowser. The
cause is probably the following:
0009:Call advapi32.RegOpenKeyExW(80000000,00886d88
L"\\htmlfile\\shell\\open\\command",00000000,00020019,0032f238) ret=0036ab8f

0009:trace:seh:raise_exception info[0]=00000000
Reading the registry-key fails with ERROR_BAD_PATH (000000a1) because the key
starts with a backslash "\\htmlfile". There's even a test for this:
/* beginning backslash character */
ret = RegOpenKeyA(HKEY_CURRENT_USER, "\\Software\\Wine\\Test", &hkResult);
ok(ret == ERROR_BAD_PATHNAME || /* NT/2k/XP */
ret == ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND /* Win9x,ME */
, "expected ERROR_BAD_PATHNAME or ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND, got %d\n",
ret);
Whereas this might be true for opening a key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, it seems
to be wrong for a key under HKCR, if you change the test to opening a key with
a heading backslash under HKEY_CURRENT_ROOT it just seems to work fine (on
winXP). Wine should'nt probably fail as well.

Summary: wineprefixcreate creates useless directories in "My
Files" directory
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.1
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: shell32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: diafero(a)arcor.de
In my linux home dir, I have a symlink called "Eigene Dateien" (the German name
for "My Files") which links to the My Files directory of my windows
installation. This is automatically choosen by wine to be the My Files
directory of the wine bottle as well, which is really nice (though I don't know
how wine determines that^^).
However, wine creates two directories in there called "Meine Musik" and "Meine
Videos" which it assigns to "My Music" and "My Pictures" of the wine bottle.
First of all, I don't want wineprefixcrreate to modify anything outside of the
prefix t should create (it took me a while until I figured out it was wine
which constantly re-created these annoying directories). And second, the names
are wrong (if they were correct, I would not have noticed that behaviour as the
correct directories exist in there). The directories are called "Eigene Musik"
and "Eigene Videos" in the German translation.
I attached a patch which fixes the problem for me.
Version 1.0 is affected as well.

Summary: Bonjour Service with iTunes
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: antti.aaltonen(a)nic.fi
Itunes 7.6 worked quite well with Wine 1.1.0 and 1.0.0. Music could be imported
from CD, played and it did not use much resources. Still, iTunes need to be
restarted if you wanted to bring more than one CD because it did not notice
that CD was changed. Coverflow was not working, it said that directX is not
installed. But Apple Airport Express /Airtunes music streaming was working with
no errors.
After updating Wine to version 1.1.1 Airport Express is not found anymore and
can't be used. I tried to install newer 7.7 version of iTunes but with the same
results. It said at the first run that Bonjour Service is disabled and
therefore Airport Express can't be used.
I tried different versions of Wine and iTunes but I can't get Airport Express
to work again.
Kubuntu 8.04
Wine 1.1.1
iTunes 7.7
