Trying to use DVD Lab Pro with wine was rather frustrating, so I gave up and
used in on a Windows machine.
I have not tried any of the newer versions of Wine to see if the problem has
been fixed. I'll try it again to see.

Screenshots of Xara 4 from Windows and Wine (on Ubuntu)
Quite trivial, but for some reason the icons in the new version 4 of Xara
Xpress (a vector rendering program) have a black background. See attached
screenshots for the way they look on Windows vs Wine.
They used to look quite fine in earlier versions of Xara, so it looks like an
regression error to me.

This post follow the bug report #13695
I made a mistake. I tried to install Adobe Creative Suite CS2 and not Adobe
Photoshop CS2.
Starting from a clean wine installation.
Seting-up a virtual desktop 1024x768 with winecfg.
Windows version set to Windows XP
I installed time32.exe first. Then I launched the setup by invoking wine
Setup.exe in the install CD1 of Adobe Creative Suite CS2.
The Adobe logo appeared, as well as the EULA and the installation menu.
I choosed to install Creative Suite CS2 and... it crashes. I am attaching the
backtraces which appeared on the std output.
I am using OpenSuSE 10.3 i386 (but it is the same with x86_64 version). I am
not using compiz, but composite extension is enabled in xorg.conf.
Office 2003 installed properly and is working under wine on the same computer.
I am using genuine Adobe Photoshop CDs.
As suggested in my invalid bug report #13695, I tried the Adobe Photoshop CS2
tryout. Adobe Photoshop CS2 installed properly and is working.
However, I have a valid Key for Creative Suite 2 and not for Photoshop CS2
alone. So, only the trial version is installed for the moment.

Summary: Grand Prix Legends: Sound (mixing?) makes game stutter
(regression)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.52.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: geraldf2(a)free.fr
CC: maarten(a)codeweavers.com
Hi,
Starting from Wine 0.9.43 up to 0.9.52 (the last I tried), sound
(probably mixing because it seems to get worse as more simultaneous
sounds are heard) affects game performance very badly, the
game/framerate is low and stutters and warps particularly when other
cars are nearby (presumably because of their sound), to the point it's
unplayable. If selecting no sound output in 'winecfg' the game run
smoothly again. From Wine 0.9.43 to 0.9.48 sound is
scratchy/irregular, from Wine 0.9.49 to 0.9.52 sound is generally
better/ok (except of course during warps where it goes like
"juuiiiiii") while the performance problem is even worse. Wine 0.9.42
doesn't have these problems.
I tried with OSS and ALSA, and also some combinations of the other
sound settings in winecfg ("Hardware acceleration", "Emulate
driver"...), that doesn't help.
There were not these problems with Wine 0.9.42 (which I'm still using
to run the game), sound and performance were both good.
(Note that this is not because of the UseGLSL thing enabled by default
because I did set HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/Direct3D/UseGLSL =
"disabled" using wine's regedit and that doesn't help.)
To reproduce the bug in Grand Prix Legends one should set the "Max #
of Sounds" setting in the game to a good amount (ie: 16) as it's on a
low value by default, which may make the problem less obvious
(particularly if you have a fast CPU I guess), and then start a
"Single Race" and set "Computer Opponents" to a good number (ie: 19)
because if alone on the track there won't be much different sounds
played, then go drive out of the pit lane and the game should stutter
badly. Note that the game puts you randomly in the pit lane, so in
case you appear in front of the other cars you may want to turn around
and drive backward while passing near the other cars.
The problem that may hinder testing tho is that I guess if you have a
"too fast" CPU you may not notice the problem (someone with a beefier
system than mine told me he didn't have the problem). Personally I
have a Duron 1800MHz CPU and the problem is very obvious (it's
unplayable), while with Wine 0.9.42 it runs well even with the "Max #
of Sounds" game setting set to 16.
Note that this may be related to bug #9589:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9589
Where I posted comments when I initially had the "Max # of Sounds"
game setting set to only 6 which resulted in me not noticing the
performance problem in Wines from 0.9.43 to 0.9.48 (I thought it was
only bad sound, plus I didn't run these versions much, that's only
recently when I set it to "16" that I realised the problem was also in
0.9.43 to 0.9.48). Plus regression testing I redid now for this bug
(but now looking for the performance problem) indicates the same
patch. I open a new bug here because I still don't know if the other
bug report was about the same problem, plus it only reported a bad
sound problem (and for another game) while I'm more after the
performance problem (plus it seems the bad sound problem may be
resolved actually if you forget about the performance problem).
If you want to test with Grand Prix Legends, a fully functional demo
(only one racing track) known as "GPL 2004 Demo" should be available
at these addresses:
http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/grandprixlegends/Thirdparty/gpl_2004…http://www.gamershell.com/download_6101.shtml
Once unzipped, the installer exe should have this md5sum:
9fc0abf47838a3d501386d58cffda39e gpl_2004_demo.exe
(If you need help running the game feel free to contact me, for a
start it requires the "Emulate desktop" option to get keyboard focus
and the absolute path of the exe (ie: 'wine C:\\path\\to\\gpl.exe'),
and also set 'lastRasterizerDLL = rastOGL.dll' in the game dir file
'app.ini' before launching the game)
I did regression testing between wine-0.9.42 and wine-0.9.43, starting
with:
git bisect start
git bisect good wine-0.9.42
git bisect bad wine-0.9.43
(...)
After the repetitive process the result finally says the following (I
scrambled a bit the email address just in case):

BTW, this was all with vb6 running on wine. I suppose there's some chance that
generating the .exe on windows might give different results.

'winetricks jet40' ought to install jet, but now jet puts up an

free disk space to install the program".
This is on a system with quite a bit of free space:

so something is amiss. I've never seen it before, so tagging with
'regression'.

The bug reproduces nicely with VB6.
Still present in 1.1.9 (today's git).
I'll attach the .exe that vb6 generates, just run it and click the start
button.

It seems that this problem has disappeared at least as of Wine-1.1.9. However,
I filed this bug almost exactly 3 years ago and I no longer have the same
computer. HL2:EP1 is unbearably slow on a 2.4GHz Opteron with a Radeon HD 3870
-- somewhere in the neighborhood of 0.5 fps -- but the rendering problems are
gone.

Summary: Rapid Uploader crashes sometimes, also gives AppBar err.
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.7
Platform: PC
URL: http://rapidshare.com/rapiduploader.html
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: rpc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: vladimiroski(a)gmail.com
Ubuntu 8.10; Wine 1.1.7; Lastest Rapid Uploader tool.
Ok, the first time that I launched Rapiduploader.exe Wine crashed reporting a
segfault and other things.
Second time the program (Rapid Uploader) crashed asking for rpcrt4.dll.
Third time the program started, but throwing a lot of lines (and really fast)
to console saying:
err:appbar:SHAppBarMessage couldn't find appbar window
So I thought it was because installing native things with winetricks, because
that I deleted my .wine directory and tried to start the aplication again.
With clean .wine directory I got a lot of log lines about the same FixMe:
fixme:appbar:handle_appbarmessage SHAppBarMessage(ABM_GETTASKBARPOS,
hwnd=0x10026): stub
----------------------------
Another issue is that if you press "delete" button, the menu shows up for a
random amount of time and auto closes, without giving you the possibility of
clicking anything else.
----------------------------
Another one is:
1. Press "Add" button
2. Select any file in the file selector dialog
3. Try to press "Open"
4. See that nothing happen (hehehe)
5. Double click the file
6. See that now the file is correctly chosen and file selector dialog closes.
------------------------------
If the file selected is too big for Rapidshare (> 100MB) it'll show a message
that you can't close clicking in the "Ok", instead you have to press "Enter".

The application recently went through a beta cycle prior to a new release. One
specific build no longer exhibited the 'Invalid floating point operation'
error, but it returned for later builds.
The changes for this build were not significant, but included some work around
the display of bold and italic fonts in an editable field. The next public
build made some further changes to this functionality, and the error returned.
This may be coincidental.
Sadly, beta releases (including the one for build 1195) will only run if you
have a license key (full releases only restrict functionality), so this can't
be tested by just anyone. This specific build of the application can be made
temporarily available for download on request.
If anyone wants some logging in debug mode done to compare this and other
builds, jut ask.

I tried replacing the comctl32.dll with the Win2K version but it didn't work
Which service pack was on Win2k? or can you post the comctl32.dll you used?
I know about the .set files and the F2 fix is useful thanks.

Ventrilo has its own set of problems running ALSA that prevent me from just
using it. (Sound input stops working, etc) Anyway I am unable to use OSS with
anything later than 0.9.46. When I try and use 0.9.47 and later the following
problem occurs with Ventrilo:
If the sound output device is the same as the sound input device, I hear
nohting. However, if I change the sound output device to my second sound card
then I can hear things. This works in both directions, but if input and output
are set to the same card, then nothing is heard.
Regression testing pointed to a problem with this patch:

I'm not sure what "PvP Viewer" we are talking about here. There is no such
feature in Guild Wars. Google isn't much helpful either.
"The application unzip the files to allow you to go back to the place you was
but
freeze with the log-in screen"
... makes it sound like some kind of addon which hooks Guild Wars and records
info about your PvP battles.
It is against the EULA to use any kind of bots/hooking software for game, and
the game is constantly updated, so this software probably doesn't even work
anymore, and any crashes might as well be caused by this so-called "PvP Viewer"
itself.
Judging by the date this was reported... You might just close this?

My guess for possible deadlock code is wine_tsx11_lock/unlock.
I don't know about critical sections implementation in wine but it looks like
possible cause could be that same thread have locked critical section already
and is trying to relock it now blocking whole game.
Possible cause could be that some error handling doesn't have unlock call
before leaving function. (This is why I like C++ object locks so one can't
forgot to free locks)

Dreamweaver CS4 Version 10.0 Build 4117, WINE 1.1.9, Ubuntu 8.10
Symptom 1: If I understood the symptom correctly, it's happening in DWCS4 as
well, go to preferences and click on CSS Styles, the controls that are supposed
to appear don't, you have to switch between windows in the taskbar (evince and
gnome system monitor worked the best) to be able to get it to show the
controls.
Symptom 2: Still happening in DWCS4, it happens because of the current position
of the cursor. If you have it over any disabled control it will not redraw
correctly, but if you move it to an element that is not disabled, like a combo
box or a text box, it will start to redraw correctly. The window area in which
the controls are located will cause the problem as well. So in other words,
keep your cursor over the element that you are inserting data into to make sure
that it redraws correctly.

I have experienced same freeze using system:
Athlon XP-M 2800+
Ati mobility radeon 9200 (with open source driver, XAA and PageFlip)
Ubuntu 8.10 with all updates installed and wine 1.1.9.
The latest steam version of Counter-strike 1.6.
Sound system is alsa routed to pulseaudio server.
It is possible to stop freeze using ssh connection and killing hl.exe
(counter-strike) After that I can find same RtlpWaitForCriticalSection error in
.xsession-errors that seems like related to freeze.
My guess why system seems like completely locked up is that wine has captured
keyboard+mouse.
I haven't yet tested if local games or map without textures would work.

What for an ignorant note.
1. Since now it seems to be only a sound bug on (as tagged) 64 bit systems. On
my system it breaks the whole application on 32 bit systems.
2. I did exactly point out the buggy patch. That one patch add big trouble to
the usefullnes of wine.
> The patch is correct. Using 0 in SetForegroundWindow() is invalid. The problem
> is somewhere else.
I see. The patch did only change this behaviour and afterwards it is broken. So
the problem cannot be the patch??? And it is not that the patch do more than
changing that behaviour.

We have a application which uses a tcp-socket (asynchronous). If the host it
tries to connect to is unreachable it hangs. With windows the connect instead
timeouts after 10 seconds.
I run it with debugging on the following happens with wine:
it opens a dialog box ("Connecting to...")
it opens a socket
it does a ws2_32.WSAAsyncSelect(0000019c,0003009e,00000402,00000033)
where 0003009e is the handle of the dialog box
it tries to connect:
ws2_32.connect(0000019c,02aede4c,00000010)
it creates a timer for the window:
user32.SetTimer(0003009e,00000065,00002710,00000000)
the timer expires after 10 seconds
it calls KillTimer
tries to log a error message
it then does
ws2_32.shutdown(0000019c,00000001) [retval=00000000]
and then the programs hangs (the dialog box remains open, only little activity
in the wine trace).
I suspect that the dialog box waits for an event that the socket is closed.

Summary: WoW indoors/instance white characters. Vram problems?
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.51.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: iphands(a)yahoo.com
When the latest wine went stable 0.9.49 (also tried .9.50, .9.51) I upgraded,
along with the 2.3.0 WoW update.
I had had a problem long ago where going indoors would cause characters
(persons (i.e. not letters)) would turn bright white (with no textures), also
some objects would lose all textures. This problem was once dismissed by
"ensuring" X that I had enough Vram ("VideoRam 128000" in my xorg.conf).
With the most recent update of WoW (I even tried downgrading wine) the problem
has resurfaced. I have added these ram options in user.reg:
[Software\\Wine\\OpenGL] 1197730869
"DisabledExtensions"="GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object"
"VideoMemorySize"="200"
[Software\\Wine\\Direct3D] 1197775965
"PixelShaderMode"="enabled"
"VertexShaderMode"="hardware"
"VideoMemorySize"="200"
Dxdiag.exe also seems to report the correct amount of Vram.
Thanks
-Ian
Note: This is happening in both the opengl and directx modes, and only on my
laptop (VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS,
943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)).

Starcraft no longer plays unit acknowledgements (mostly, occasionally I get
one), the briefing room speech, and some minor sounds in the menus. It was
working before (0.9.47 I think). This is the winehq debian package 0.9.49.

Summary: Carrara 5 Pro W/ 5.1patch: 3D View draw/render fails to
show 3D objects
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.47.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P1
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tempeodor(a)yahoo.com
In Wine 0.9.47, after opening the program, when I open a new document to start
a session the 3D view window opens for the new document but is completely blank
with the word "Rendering..." up in the corner indicating it's trying but
failing to show/render the scene in the 3D view window area. When I load a 3D
object the 3D view window continues to show nothing then the words "Failed to
render" appear in the upper left corner after a few seconds. Also menus fail to
show and are cut off from the point where they cross over the view window.
Total show stopper.
Program data. Carrara 5Pro W/ render node installed plus update patch 5.1 on
both.
A trial verison of this 3D program can be found at DAZ3D with this link.
http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/support/downloads/-/?product=car_down
Extra note. Carrara 5Pro worked fine in the past under Wine 0.9.33 but the
other programs I must use only work in the latest Wine.
