Great job Alex! This program seems to run very well. It installs and runs fine
for me. Should this be bug be closed now?

After migrating to Intrepid (Ubuntu 8.10) and installing the nvidia proprietary
drivers, and a clean install of Wine 1.01, I have the following problem:
With nvidia drivers version 96 (which is the less buggy version to run on
Intrepid), Wine does not display any fonts (either in the wine dialogs or
under any apps)
With other version of nvidia (recommended ones), I get the fonts in Wine, but
get to other display problems under Intrepid.

Crashlogs
WoW randomly crashes in Shattrath with different errors each time. First time
the UI blanked out (see second attachment) and it froze. Then it either crashed
or went white. See first attachment for crashlogs.
This is near-exclusive to Shattrath (which is extremely memory-hungry).
Reducing some graphic effects seem to calm the crashes down.

I'm still getting exactly the same error.
Plus, it's harder to get into 256 color mode these days;
I did it today with
sudo sh /etc/init.d/gdm stop
(press F2 and log in)
startx -- -depth 8
(Ubuntu isn't quite happy with that; it mostly worked, but the
user switcher crashed. But that's not wine's fault.)
Maybe you're using a newer version of the game? My copy of the installed exe
has timestamp from 1995:

Summary: Problem with Graphic in Vampire: Bloodlines
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.5
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: adi.l(a)bluewin.ch
Vampire: Bloodlines has problems with showing the graphics. I assume that
everything that is not a lightsource is not drawn.
There is a workaround for the problem (start a new game, when the game reaches
character generation the graphics are fixed), so it is not really a problem.
Also the problem might not be wine only, as this bug was not there when i
played the game a year ago with 0.9.49. But when i now use 0.9.49 the problems
are still there. so a change in the graphic driver or some other part of linux
might have caused it.
my configuration
ubuntu 8.04
nvidia 8600 GT with 169.12 driver
I will attach screenshots to illustrate the problem.
What kind of wine logs would be helping to solve that problem.

The latest version was garbage last time I checked. It has went through
multiple revisions since this bug was opened and at last check, you couldn't
get even beyond the splash screen. That said, it was back at 1.1.6 IIRC. As
far as the game client is concerned, it is available from

Console log
Since patch 3.0.2 (relatively recent beta build, didn't happen until late
September), loading the game under d3d mode crashes on login with the error
below. After some discussions on IRC, it seems this is related to the following
line:
err:d3d:getColorBits Unsupported format: WINED3DFMT_R32F
Attached full console output. Problem has only been seen so far on nVidia 86xx
and 88xx cards. Changing to double buffering and MultiSample to 1 does not give
any better result.

Summary: A runtime error now appears in 0.9.59
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.59.
Platform: Other

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Priority: P2
Component: quartz

Error picture.
When running Trillian, it puts an icon down by the clock. In previous versions
of Wine (0.9.58 and before), the icon showed up with a gray background.
Clicking on the icon would produce all the same functions as it did in Windows.
However, with the latest build, 0.9.59, it seems that this feature no longer
works. The icon is now a random part of my desktop, and when I click on it, an
error occurs, which I'll attach.
This bug only occurs in 0.9.59 of Wine, all other versions appear to work fine.

The terminal report of the error
I'm using Wine-1.0 and installed STEAM. When I click the Games tab and try to
install a game, or play a game that is already installed, STEAM freezes for a
few seconds, and either closes completely by itself or after I click the X at
the top of the STEAM window. I ran the program in a terminal window and
received a few lines of error. They are attached below.
I'm using OpenSUSE 11.0 and installed Wine-1.0 through a YaST repository,
rather than through the binary file. I'm also using an Nvidia 7900GS with the
latest drivers. Any graphical enhancement programs, such as Compiz Fusion, are
turned off and the error still occurs. Thank you for the help.

This used to work with my 2006 installation. When I upgraded to 2007, this

The MSDN suggest to use this hard coded table:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms776446(VS.85).aspx
But inside Windows there is a way to figure out the translation by using the
Registry. For example the code page of the "big5" character set can be taken by
the following Registry Key:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Charset\Big5]
"Codepage"=dword:000003b6
"InternetEncoding"=dword:000003b6
Unfortunately this Keys are not present in the Wine Registry.
Since there is no Windows API call to figure out this I suggest to add the
related values into the Wine Registry.

Looking at dlls/user32/class.c the following call flags aren't supported across

I did not look closely, but how hard would it be to implement the correct

so that means the sanity patch is still not in wine? because some people say
that the patch is already in wine, but when i test wine 1.1.7 with the patch
the bug is gone, so there is something not right then

Hello,
I am using Gentoo Linux, x86_64. Until now, I was using "stable" 0.9.57 version
of wine, now, I decided to try the rc2. There is a small glitch when rendering
normal windows (such as winecfg, installers, etc) - the text is randomly
screwed up.
I have got no compiz running, no compoziting extensions enabled. The wine is
built from source, the wineprefix worked previously with 0.9.57 perfectly, i
tried to create a new one, and the bug is still present. The only thing which
comes to my mind which can be causing this is - the new ati proprietary fglrx
driver. I'll check how does the older one (from april) perform, nonetheless,
there is nice performance improvement in this may release of ATI drivers, so,
it'd be nice if you could track down this regression.

Summary: winebrowser adds preceding slashes to 'mailto:' URLs
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.4
Platform: PC

Priority: P2

Hello,
Stop me if I'm wrong, but winebrowser is in charge of handling calls to the
http, https and mailto protocols in Windows applications running inside Wine -
including, say, calls in VBA such as 'ActiveWorkbook.FollowHyperlink Address:='
If you pass an http resource there, Wine will defer the call to the system's
default browser (say, Firefox). No problem here.
If you pass a mailto resource there, Wine will defer the call to the system's
default mail client (say, Kmail). That's where things get ugly: the mail
address gets preceded by one or more '/' - and of course, sending the e-mail
will fail.
A very simple example would be typing in a terminal:
winebrowser "mailto:test@thing.com"
or
winebrowser mailto:test@thing.com
both open a Kmail/Thunderbird/whatever 'New message' window, with target
address being '/test(a)thing.com' - notice the extra '/'.
My guess: winebrowser is being a bit too enthusiastic in encoding/escaping
mailto URLs.
tested under Wine 1.1.4, 1.1.6 and 1.1.9.

Summary: Adobe Photoshop CS3 installer crashes

Keywords: download, Installer, regression

The installer crashes for me shortly after putting up its GUI.

fixme:mshtml:HTMLElement_getAttribute NULL nselem

It looks like a gecko problem. How does one get symbolic stack
traces from Gecko? I filed bug 15565 for that question.
This seems to be a regression; last week, I was able to install photoshop cs3
with wine from git. I will do a regression search if I can find the
time.

At least WinRAR 3.00 works well with wine 1.1.9.
If I understand this problem right, of course.

the errorlog
Neverwinter Nights 2 really works well. I could - except for the map-bug (
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9193 ) play through the campaign to the
point when you take Shandra to the Sunken Flagon
(
http://www.gamebanshee.com/neverwinternights2/walkthrough/shandrasfarm-seco…
). When you are in the Flagon, Shandra says she wants to go to bed. Then the
screen fades out and the game crashes. What should have happened is that the
githyanki attack the Flagon.
I tried this with wine 0.9.48 and 0.9.49, both versions crash.
The game didn't crash one single time before - playing time until this point is
some hours, maybe 5

@Tony The native dll would either have been the one supplied with Wine or from
Windows XP.
@Austin I installed Director MX on Ubuntu 8.04 which comes with wine 1.0 and
the bug did not occur even without any workaround from me. So it seems to be
fixed!
If you'd like to test for yourself do the following (I've augmented my original
instructions a bit):
1) Open Director MX under WINE
1a) Press CTRL+M to bring up the message window
2) In the message window type "put string(0.1)"
2a) Press Return
3) In the output window the output will be '-- "1..0000e-01"'
The output should be '-- "0.1000"'

For me, using wine 1.1.9, the cinematics play (e.g. Frozen Throne intro) but do
not complete. I get:
fixme:quartz:FileAsyncReader_WaitForNext Returned: 258 (000005b4)
err:quartz:PullPin_Thread_Process Processing error: 8004022e
fixme:quartz:MediaPosition_get_CurrentPosition (0x142fd8)->(0x33f298) stub!
with the last line repeating a lot (about 20 times) and then the sequence
cycles back.
I am seeing the same colour issue with the quality degraded. I suspect that
this may be due to 32bpp -> 16bpp colour conversion (or some other colour space
conversion).
This is using the desktop emulation mode (set to 800x600). If I run it
normally, the game renders fine, but when playing the cinematics the screen
flashes for a few moments as it is chaning resolution back and forth, then it
goes back to the campaign screen (no cinematic is played in this case).

Summary: Running various games with OSS audio causes PCM device
to be muted
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.8
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: aardvark(a)krl.com
When running World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online using OSS audio,
the PCM device becomes muted on startup and shutdown of the program. Audio can
be heard if the PCM device is unmuted, say, by alsamixer.
Possibly related, WoW does not exhibit this problem if run through aoss. LotRO
doesn't get any audio if run through aoss. LotRO doesn't have any audio in the
game if alsa is used (one of the promo splash screens does, however). Neither
game gets audio under alsa (PCM is not muted).
This has occurred since at least wine 1.1 6 - 1.1.8.
Alsa worked with WoW at least as late as 1.1.0. LotRO worked with aoss at the
same time.
Linux 2.6.26, alsa v1.0.17.
This problem has been referred to in another bug, 15559.

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: liquid.acid(a)gmx.net
Hi there,
this issue is probably connected to:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14762
Whenever framebuffer effects are used in Half-Life 2, like during the initial
introsequence with the gman, the scene isn't rendered (correctly).
It's just a plane with a (changing) solid color I see during these scenes.
Probably related to the lack of hw-accelerated ARB_tex_npot support of my card.
For me this looks like some texture coordinates are still in the range
[0,1]x[0,1] while the texture that is bound is of type RECT and therefore needs
coords in the range [0, width]x[0, height].
That would explain why the screen that is rendered is looking like it was
flood-filled with a solid color.

this is still present. Simply download the personal trial from their website.
Install goes fine, except the last dialog hangs open. doesn't affect actual
install.
Once installed, it will ask you to create a database file. Create the file. You
will then be prompted with the main window.
The first bug is the lack of additional calendars in the main view. See the
screenshots referenced before to see the difference.
The second problem is when you create a time entry, and try to edit it. The
fields for entering the time are grayed out, and there are check marks next to
them.
The dll file work around doesn't fix this second problem.

Version: 0.9.56.
Platform: PC-x86-64
URL: http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=123
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: wininet
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: kisrokus(a)gmail.com
I try to use an ebook reader with wine! It needs to activate itself, so I can
open it. When I try to to so I get the error massage from the eBook reader
application, that i would be not connected to the internet... witch is silly
because I play an MMORPG game with Wine!
So its an exe file that includes the eBook and the reader file too. If i run
it, I can choose a demo version... I mean the reader software would work with
wine... only the registration is the problem!
Its a hungarian software: http://safepublisher.com/ and on their site they say
its under developement... so i dont think there is a trial from it.
WINEDEBUG=+wininet,+winsock wine book.exe
Here is the output:

You're free to have your own branch. There is a hacks.git, but unsupported by
wine. Wine only accepts clean, non hack code.

Indeed, this seems to fix the problem. Now, the question is why a bug caused by
a ddraw commit is fixed by a dinput workaround. At lest these games are
playable now with this fix. Thanks to you and Winston.

The report when wine is set to win XP
C & C Timberian Sun reports that the comctl32.dll is an older version when in
wine is set to a windows version higher the windows 98. (never tried winver ME)
But on XP or win 2000, you get this error. After that wine reports that
comctl32.dll is up todate, thus a catch 22.
