Forget this. I have bandwidth.
http://rercola.acm.jhu.edu/dibeng-hd.tgz is up to date as of 5:55 EST
2008-11-10
Let me know if you can't even pull updates against them, and I'll set up a cron
job to pull/update periodically and give you a URL to pull from.
If you can't reach that, for some reason, I can provide alternative hosting.

Is there some other place from where I could get both repositories ?

Freight Tycoon Inc.+WINE1.1.8
I recently installed FreightTycoon Inc. games on pc_linux(ubuntu)..WINE would
not load the game and error window showing following errors:
Caps3::D3DCAPS3_COPY_TO_VIDMEM not supported
Caps3::D3DCAPS3_COPY_TO_SYSTEMMEM not supported
I then booted to windows and installed the game there..had DirectX9.0C already
installed, but on running the game, got error "d3dx9_30.dll not
found..reinstall the software..blahh blah..I googled the net and downloaded the
d3dx90_30.dll and copied to system32 folder in windows...The game ran fine with
full graphic options on my NVIDIA 6200.
My questions?...why these caps errors occuring in wine1.1.8(latest as of
now)...Does d3dx90_30.dll provide these caps?Kindly fix the issue.

FWIW, someone tried making a small demo program in C++
that used this feature:
http://www.codeguru.com/cpp/misc/misc/flickerfreedrawing/article.php/c3877
See also http://support.microsoft.com/kb/139217
"Windows maintains an accumulated bounding rectangle for each application. An
application can retrieve this bounding rectangle by calling GetBoundsRect, and
it can set this rectangle by calling SetBoundsRect. But this rectangle may not
be the smallest bounding rectangle if your drawing functions contain functions
doing text output such as TextOut. GDI does not calculate ahead of time how far
across the TextOut functions are going to draw. GDI just sets the right side of
the bounding rectangle to a large number. "
Krugle found a few possible calls to it, e.g. in bzflag and Neuroshare
http://www.krugle.org/kse/files?query=GetBoundsRect
and a whole lot of false positives.

I am experiencing this issue with Wine 1.1.18 on Gentoo Linux. Console output
for that version is almost identical to the output submitted on 2008-09-01.
>From looking at the logs, I believe the problem is that Wine is not supporting
"AL16" and "R16" format textures, which are now being used by the game
character models.
This problem has been tested and confirmed with both the regular EverQuest and
the EverQuest Test Server client. Testing was performed with the D3DX9_30.DLL
fix installed, which was obtained from http://angeliqe.com/d3dx9_30.dll on
2008-11-09.

changing the line to:

Yes, this is still an issue with WINE 1.1.8 and C-evo 1.1.1.
To reproduce:
(1) Run C-evo.
(2) Click on the "New Book" tab.
(3) Click "Start".
(4) Select a tribe. I tested with British, Persians and Phoenicians but it
doesn't seem to behave differently regardless. Click on this tribe.
(5) Watch C-evo crash.

I forgot to mention in my last post: Tested on 1.1.7 and soon on 1.1.8.
Condition-Zero (Gold-Source), ASCII text as the MOTD is not rendered at all!
So the MOTD for CZ might need to be fixed independent of Wine's HTML stuff. I
think 1.6 and CSS should be separated into two different bugs.

I run my own CSS servers, and I noticed the MOTD does, in fact work!!!
The problem is the HTML rendering... if you have the MOTD as plain ASCII, CSS
will render MOTD, but as soon as you add a single HTML tag, none of it is
displayed.

Patch for mouse problems in Fallout 3
I have patch for all mouse problems in Fallout 3. Sadly it is just hack, but it
should resolve those issues:
+ mouse click on buttons in menu
+ mouse click on buttons in game computer (on left hand)
+ mouse move in menu
+ mouse escapes window in menu
How-to use it:
Apply patch, recompile wine, and set this in registry:
"MouseWarpOverride"="enable"
or
"MouseWarpOverride"="force"
Enable is default behavior so it should work out of box!
Patch is for wine 1.1.8
PS: You should set option bBackground Mouse to 0 in fallout.ini

Is it worth "regression" testing to see when this was fixed, or shall we just

ReportedBy: liquid.acid(a)gmx.net
CC: hverbeet(a)gmail.com
Hardware: NV35
Driver: nvidia-drivers-173.14.12-r1
The game is set up to use DX8 shaders.
The issue: Lots of GL errors on the console:.
fixme:d3d_shader:shader_glsl_select >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION
(0x502) from glUseProgramObjectARB @ glsl_shader.c / 3501
I can confirm that INVALID_OPERATION is really produced by
glUseProgramObjectARB and not by some GL call before it.
The reason why the call fails is this error that appears earlier:
fixme:d3d_shader:print_glsl_info_log Error received from GLSL shader #184:
"(21) : error C7011: implicit cast from \"vec4\" to \"vec3\"\n"
I extracted the GLSL shader source of the faulty program:
#version 120
#extension GL_ARB_texture_rectangle : enable

uniform sampler2D Psampler0;
uniform sampler2D Psampler1;
uniform sampler2D Psampler2;
uniform samplerCube Psampler3;

vec4 T1 = gl_TexCoord[1];
vec4 T2 = gl_TexCoord[2];
vec4 T3 = gl_TexCoord[3];

vec4 R1;
vec4 tmp0;

uniform vec4 PLC1;
void main() {
T0.xyzw = (texture2D(Psampler0, T0.xy).xyzw);
T1.xyzw = (texture2D(Psampler1, T1.xy).xyzw);
T2.xyzw = (texture2DProj(Psampler2, T2.xyw).xyzw);
T3.xyzw = (textureCube(Psampler3, T3.xyzw).xyzw);
R0.xyzw = (vec4(dot((2.0 * (T1.xyz - 0.5)), (2.0 * (T3.xyz - 0.5)))));
R0.xyzw = clamp(R0.xyzw, 0.0, 1.0);
R0.w = (R0.w * R0.w);
R0.w = (R0.w * R0.w);
R1.xyz = (T2.www * PC[0].xyz);
R0.w = (R0.w * R0.w);
R1.xyz = (T0.xyz * R1.xyz);
R0.xyz = (R0.www * R1.xyz);
R0.w = (PLC1.w);
gl_FragColor = R0;
float Fog = clamp(gl_FogFragCoord * gl_Fog.start + gl_Fog.end, 0.0, 1.0);
gl_FragColor.xyz = mix(gl_Fog.color.xyz, gl_FragColor.xyz, Fog);
}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Like the GLSL compiler already reports, the issue is in line 21:
T3.xyzw = (textureCube(Psampler3, T3.xyzw).xyzw);
textureCube expects a vec3 type as second parameter.
The problem seems to originate from pshader_glsl_tex (in glsl_shader.c) where
the GLSL source is constructed.
Checking the content of mask before
mask |= sample_function.coord_mask;
reveals that the shader compilation only fails when mask is non-zero (at least
in my case). So if it fails it always has a hex value of 80000.
shader_glsl_get_sample_function works correctly.
The WINED3DSP_WRITEMASK_3 mask is set in the "hex_version <
WINED3DPS_VERSION(1,4)" if-branch, through the WINED3DTTFF_DISABLE case.
With the help of Roderick I found the original D3D asm:
ps_1_1
//CTAB
def c1 = 0.000000, 0.000000, 0.000000, 1.000000
tex t0
tex t1
tex t2
tex t3
dp3_sat r0, t1_bx2, t3_bx2
mul r0.a, r0.a, r0.a
mul r0.a, r0.a, r0.a
+mul r1.rgb, t2.a, c0
mul r0.a, r0.a, r0.a
+mul r1.rgb, t0, r1
mul r0.rgb, r0.a, r1
+mov r0.a, c1.a
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
He suspects that the issue originates from dp3_sat.
Adding a "if (sampler_type == WINED3DSTT_CUBE) maks=0;" before "mask |=
sample_function.coord_mask;" fixes the compilation error and also the GL errors
for me.
Adding Henri Verbeet to CC since he designed this part of the code (according
to Stefan Dösinger).
Greets,
Tobias

Hi there,
this is a regression introduced between wine-1.1.0 and wine-1.1.1, bisecting
turns up these commits:
[2d4d18b59dc26b8aee04553671b942071d9213b9] wined3d: Delay render target
activation.
[4f77c29bcf58a88cea8fb833f770aa107960b34e] wined3d: Track depth stencil
location per-surface.
Actually I had to do two bisects, one separate for the glReadBuffer error, and
one for the two other messages.
Affected game: Max Payne 2 (demo)
Wine settings:
OffscreenRenderingMode=fbo
UseGLSL=disabled
Ingame settings:
PostProcessingEffects=medium
PixelShaderSkins=off
Hardware: nVidia Geforce FX 5900
Drivers: nvidia-drivers-173.14.09
GL errors only show up when PP effects are used in the game. There are two
types:
(a) bullettime, using a sepia tone filter
(b) cutscenes, using a motion blur filter
GL errors depend on whether (a) or (b) is currently active:
For (a) I get these GL errors:
(*) fixme:d3d_surface:read_from_framebuffer_texture >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
GL_INVALID_ENUM (0x500) from glReadBuffer @ surface.c / 913
(**) fixme:d3d_shader:shader_arb_deselect_depth_blt >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) from glBindProgramARB(GL_VERTEX_PROGRAM_ARB,
vertexShader->prgId); @ arb_program_shader.c / 1832
And for (b) those:
(*) fixme:d3d_surface:read_from_framebuffer_texture >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
GL_INVALID_ENUM (0x500) from glReadBuffer @ surface.c / 913
(***) fixme:d3d_shader:shader_arb_deselect_depth_blt >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) from glDisable(GL_VERTEX_PROGRAM_ARB) @
arb_program_shader.c / 1840
Note that the errors don't show up with ORM=backbuffer.
This are essentially three errors, I marked them each with asteriks. Notice
that the (*) GL error happens in both "modes".
During bisecting I noticed that the (*) GL error was introduced a different
commit than the (**)/(***) (which are introduced by one and the same commit).
For testing both wine versions (1.1.0 and 1.1.1) the sourcecode was patched
with
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=commit;h=2583975ec799527cebc323891…,
to not hit the slow driver fallback. Wine did only use ARB_tex_rect for NP2
textures then.
This can also be achieved by commenting out the ARB_tex_npot extension line in
wined3d/directx.c
The GL errors still show up with wine git master (last commit:
b572170da5f35a80c6bb07ab8ebcda7a854f27f), there with an additional GL error:
fixme:d3d:apply_draw_buffer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) from
glDrawBuffers() @ context.c / 1064
However this one (the "draw buffers" one) should be fixed in latest git.
The (*) GL error is introduced by the commit:
[2d4d18b59dc26b8aee04553671b942071d9213b9] wined3d: Delay render target
activation.
(Adding Stefan Dösinger to CC)
The (**) and (***) GL error is introduced by the commit:
[4f77c29bcf58a88cea8fb833f770aa107960b34e] wined3d: Track depth stencil
location per-surface.

What I did:
I was working with Flash 8 on a external monitor. I shutdown flash, then
disconnected the external monitor.
When I started Flash back up, the work window was nowhere to be found (The
splash logo came up and the process was still running).
How I worked around it:
1. Re-attach external monitor, and restart Flash. Flash then displays on the
external monitor.
2. Emulate a virtual desktop, at a ridiculous resolution, so it looks like both
monitors are attached. Now when Flash opens, it will be in one of the corners
of the virtual desktop (If you would like; you can move the window, turn off
virtual desktop, restart flash; and it will position its self where you moved
the window to).
What I think happened:
Flash remembers where the window was last positioned, when it is closed. When
you open it, it tries to position its self where it was closed. If you had a
larger display size, when you last ran flash, it is quite possible that Flash
will now open off the screen (and you won't be able to Alt+Tab to it and move
it, without using wine's virtual desktop).
Desired behavior:
If Flash tries to start off of the screen, it gets repositioned to your current
display size.
FYI: first bug report, sorry if format of ticket is odd. Thanks!

short "WINEDEBUG=+all" of a crash
I have a legacy application. Actually it is a set of forms run under Oracle
Forms 6i. I want to move the app to Linux with Wine. I've managed to install
Oracle Forms 6i and Designer 6i under Wine 0.9.58 and almost everything went
fine. I'm able to run Designer and generate forms. The Forms Builder runs fine
also and is able to compile modules as well. On the final step when I try to
run a compiled form (*.fmx) with Forms Runtime its main window just blinks for
a moment and Forms Runtime crashes and generates its standard report
ifrun60_dump_N where I can see:
[Sat 29 Mar 2008 18:21:30 GMT]::Client Status [ConnId=0, PID=8]

..........................................................
When I try to debug it with:
WINEDEBUG=+all wine ifrun60.EXE module="testcity.fmx"
I can see that Forms Rintime raises exception just after opening a compiled
form.
This prevents me from breaking with Windows.

Invalid page faults when using Wordpro. IPF is reproducable when exiting app,
hence this is the log I've attached. It seems Wordpro only persists user
settings (eg. measurement units) on exit, which it never successfully achieves.
IPFs also occur frequently during general usage of the application, though I've
yet to be able to pinpoint how to reproduce these.

I've attached an image of the window for reference. Closing it does not hinder
the installation, but could certainly confuse/throw a new user.

I have windows version mingw32 (g++ (GCC) 3.4.2 (mingw-special) installed in
~/.wine/drive_c/mingw32. It looks like mingw tools like "reimp" can't launch
each other (path for c:\mingw32\bin is specified in registry). I.e. I can use
"wine mingw", "wine reimp", "wine dlltool", "wine as", but reimp can't find
dlltool, dlltool can't find "as" and they fail with messages like
"
reimp: dlltool: No such file or directory
bash-3.1$ g++ (GCC) 3.4.2 (mingw-special)
"
According to debug output (added as attachment), problem occurs in _spawnve
function, which doesn't search for ".exe" version of arguments. (not sure if it
should, but I believe that mingw worked fine with previous versions of wine).
wine was compiled from sources into packages, with default flags.

I had duplicated some code in one of my programs and accidentally forgot to
change the "desired access" for the MapViewOfFile call, despite having changed
this in the OpenFileMapping call.
The code below *incorrectly* succeeds on WINE but fails on Windows XP.
=== EXAMPLE ===
HANDLE h;
void* m;
h = OpenFileMapping(FILE_MAP_READ, FALSE, "Global\Foo");
m = MapViewOfFile(h, FILE_MAP_WRITE, 0, 0, 0);
=== END EXAMPLE ===
Basically I was opening the mapped file READ-ONLY, but was then trying to
create a writable mapping to it.

Also confirmed to be working.
I also had a problem getting remote scripts to work but it seems that the
$mircdir is installed in a different place to when I installed it in Windows. I
don't know if this is the problem you have but I've got remote scripts working
now.

Summary: Blockland crashes when returning focus
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.60
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: paulman120(a)gmail.com
While running the game in windowed mode, if you take focus off the blockland
window then give it focus again, the program will throw an unhandled page fault
on a read access. The address this happens at and the tread it happens on is
different every time. No debug info can be taken because it shows up in some
wine console window that disappears directly afterwards.

Summary: Screen flicker on external VGA monitor when running wine
apps
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.7
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: maciej.grela(a)gmail.com
Hi,
I`ve noticed irritating flicker on my external LCD monitor connected via VGA to
a Thinkpad T61p laptop. The VGA monitor and laptop`s screen are in clone mode.
I have an Nvidia card running under the opensource 'nv' driver:
wadhcp00766 ~ # lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Quadro NVS 140M (rev a1)
The flicker appears when I open any wine app (even as simple as notepad.exe).
After searching the internets I`ve found this bug in Ubuntu covering a similar
issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nv/+bug/245383
This bugreport states, that the problem is caused by clients, who force the
driver to do DDC detection when the app starts. This causes the screen to
flicker. The problem seems to be fixed for GTK apps, but still persists in
wine. Output from my Xorg.log confirms, that the flicker is caused by multiple
calls to DDC detection routines. When I start a wine app Xorg.log is filled
with messages like this:
(II) NV(0): Probing for EDID on I2C bus 0...

Of course.
The date format, set in Your system, is incorrect and can cause faulty
behaviour of the WinAmbulancia program.
The actual format is M/d/yyyy and the Winambulancia accepts only d.M.yyyy or
d.M.rrrr
Do You wish to set the format to d.M.yyyy? (suggested)

I can confirm what Dan Kegel reports. The EULA in both the World of Warcraft
installer, and the trial World of Warcraft installer only shows boxes.
I don't have an output of the regular installer handy, but I'll attach one of
the TryWoW.exe.

Although d3d doesn't work at all for 86xx and 88xx nVidia cards since a few
beta patches, I've played the beta in d3d mode for weeks without any specific
crash. This is with wine 1.x.
I do not believe this is still a problem, but I could be wrong.

The attached patch fixes the problem, but there are other bugs. I put them here
so that they won't get lost until I have some more time to check if they are
real bugs.
Running with a higher value e.g. 1g results in the following output:
$ wine qpi.exe 1g
...
Computing series, 0%fixme:heap:RtlCompactHeap (0x110000, 0x0) stub
12%
Unable to lock memory
Heap: 1, Size: 932088, Current: 554696704, Peak: 1099235328
$
I just checked on my slow winxp machine and it got to 15% (then I aborted, took
1h to get there). Running with 500m works in wine.
There is another bug with the input. Running $wine qpi.exe -h shows the help
but I couldn't read all, because the space (which works on winxp) didn't switch
the site.

Hello,
yes that patch forces the app's own memory manager to take only vm blocks into
account which are really mmap'able by their base.
Works, tested with 300000k digits of Pi ;-)
Such apps which try to be über-clever about memory management should be a very
rare occurrence.

Sorry if I offended you in any way.
I was just asking for the right way to help, I didn't want to teach nobody how
to develop wine.
I've made some (indeed small) contributions since 2000, and I'd like to support
it as is in my possibility.

If you read carefully my previous post, I'm *not* asking for a solution, I've
never done before and I'll not start now. What I asked for is some guidelines
to try do help with it; there were too many unsuccessful attempts since 2002 to
start loosing time again.
I don't know, and I guess nor do you, if Huw stuff is suited to be acceptable
by Alexander. I'd not like to spend time coding in useless stuffs.
As far as I've understood reading forums there were *many* attempts to solve
the issue, with some big work by Transgaming that seemed going in right
direction but hasn't be accepted.
Ciao

Hmmmmmm... IMHO it would be a nonsense to do so an huge work just to
demonstrate it can be (maybe) useful.....
BTW, I don't know about games, but I'm pretty sure that Autocad does need it
:-)
I asked for a skeleton implementation because so maybe many people could try to
contribute (me too...). Without a proper guideline, it'll stay in nowhere
forever, as it has been since 2002.

The other requirement is that it be worth it. Huw's experiments
so far have not demonstrated that it's a wine. Thus the path
to inclusion probably goes first through "get the dibengine working
and demonstrate that it makes one popular app run much faster".

Hy,
My previous comment was aimed more as the "gradual introduction" of DIB engine.
As far as I can understand, the *only* possibility for DIB engine to get
accepted by Alexander would be in small steps.
So, IMHO, the only way to do it would be to introduce a skeleton with just
calls to X11Drv (that one can't be done in small pieces, I'm afraid, but should
do no harm, being just a forward to good old driver...) and then start
implementing the stuff in groups of functions.
Am I wrong ?

ICU was removed because it introduced ABI dependencies into Wine that were
unreasonable for general consumption (plus it bloated parts of wine by as much
as, if not over, 1000%). As such, any patch that is based on ICU is unlikely to
go into the main code.

Yes, it's still an issue. You can reproduce it with notepad.
1. Type something in notepad.
2. Print to cups-pdf.
3. Open the pdf file with native Linux Adobe Reader.
4. Copy the text to the clipboard.
5. Paste the copied text back into Notepad. The result is gibberish.

Still present. Probably should submit the testcase before the patches, but I've
got other things I'm working on at the moment.

Is this still an issue in current (1.1.7 or newer) wine? Can you reproduce this
in a downloadable app?

Tried the steps given in the zip file, and that part works, but the rest of the
window ordering seems broken, haven't tested Windows though...Can someone
retest?

and btw, I do not believe that emule (especially all it's mods) is replaceable,
by for example amule, amule can simply not compare, it has nothing even close
to what emule is, and most certainly not even close to it's mods, it's like
comparing emule plus to emule/xtreme/pp-edition, they just can't be compared at
all.
that being said, I do agree that the edonkey and kademlia networks are not the
best thing since DDL, however utorrent works on wine just fine, if you ask me
if this little bug should be fixed, i'd say if instead of that someone is going
to add DX10 support with the currently slow gui rendering performance in wine,
i'd say fix the bug(S) of the program(s) first (not just this one, all programs
supported by wine), but if it's the implementation of optimized gui code in
wine, then yeah, i'd say no.
but that's only because I have rules, first implementation of core features,
then debugging, and only then fancy stuff like DX10, after all the bugs are
fixed, but wine development appears to be going in all directions at once,
anyway, the devs always know what is important.
considering that emule works 90% and the fact that the bug is workaroundable, I
wouldn't consider it a priority, but I do not agree with you that it needs be
forgotten, wine should have 100% compatibility sooner or later, as it is trying
to achieve it's goals, so I was just pointing out that the bug still exists in
the latest version, and I believe this information is useful, whether it will
be fixed is an another subject entirely.

Ditto for me with my Audigy 4 - switching to the onboard sound (nforce) made
the problem stop occuring.
Same for another machine of mine with an Audigy 2 - switching to the onboard
sound solved the problem.
This follows the information from bug #14803

Summary: Programs that use WMI objects don't work
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: winehqbugs(a)bugmenot.com
In Windows, programs can use wmi object to gain information to certain statics
about the processor, and so on. Information from "/proc/cpuinfo" (in Linux) and
so on need to be used to mimic wmi object output that Windows uses. At the very
least, wine should give an output of 0's when wmi objects are retrieved, so
that the program doesn't crash.
