Is this still an issue in current (1.1.7 or newer) wine? The demo has the same
problem, correct?

Summary: CrossOver "SELinux is preventing wine-preloader
(unconfined_t) "mmap_zero" to <Unknown> (unconfined_t)."
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mstuff(a)read.org.nz
Trust someone here can find the right place at CrossOver to put this - they're
not accepting Bugs or Tickets...
SELinux denials in rpm version. See setroubleshoot output below (couldn't
easily create an attachment as I'm in 2 accounts).
Summary:
SELinux is preventing wine-preloader (unconfined_t) "mmap_zero" to <Unknown>
(unconfined_t).
Detailed Description:
SELinux denied access requested by wine-preloader. It is not expected that this
access is required by wine-preloader and this access may signal an intrusion
attempt. It is also possible that the specific version or configuration of the
application is causing it to require additional access.
Allowing Access:
You can generate a local policy module to allow this access - see FAQ
(http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/selinux-faq-fc5/#id2961385) Or you can disable
SELinux protection altogether. Disabling SELinux protection is not recommended.
Please file a bug report (http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/enter_bug.cgi)
against this package.

No, it's true, Huw's the man here. The only question is
whether he gets to work on it full time. Judging by
his commits, he's working on something else (outlook?).
If somebody wants to take his tree and try extending it to
handle one of these apps, that would be great.

Summary: Ventrilo takes 100% of CPU and input ceases to function
after some time using Audigy soundcards
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.0
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: beshwa(a)gmail.com
Ventrilo will eventually hit 100% CPU usage after using it for some time. That
time can be within minutes or after several hours. At that point, mic input
ceases to work, though I can still hear others. The Ventrilo application
itself won't quit when closed once this happens, though killing it with signal
15 or 9 does work. I'm using Wine 1.0 with an Audigy 4 card on an AMD64 system.
Another AMD64 system with an Audigy 2 card exhibits the same problem. I've
tried all variety of winecfg audio settings to no avail.
After changing to my on-board nvidia soundcard I haven't noticed the problem
occur again, so it appears to be an interaction with Audigy (emu10k) sound
cards.

I guess you're right, as most time is spent calling DIB_Coerce stuffs.
It would too difficult to drop a DIB engine skeleton with calls to actual
graphic engine, so people can start to look at it in a consistent manner ?
I've seen many proposals in years, but still nothing in wine tree.
I can understand that DIB engine should be carefully (and slowly) introduced in
wine, but without a proper starting point it'll never happen.

Just tested this in wine 1.0.1 and it doesn't crash while playing the videos
any more.
I can't see the videos, but I can hear the sound in the background. They play
all the way through, and after they complete, it goes into the game as normal.
Does a new bug need to be opened to address the missing video?

This is not news its well known that opening a window reduces cpu usage. It
doesn't fix the fundamental problem in the way emule is designed. This bug
isn't going to get fixed anytime soon if ever. The native client has just as
much functionality now as emule something to keep in mind when it comes to
developers time.

I have compiled wine 1.1.7 from source without compiler optimizations and ran
emule 0.48a on it, this bug still exists, when opening some dialog like "paste
3d2k links" or options the cpu usage drops by 10 times sometimes more,
regardless of number of downloads, for example, with ~50 files in the transfers
list, on a P3 500 mhz, without a dialog usage is between 50-70%
(wineserver+emule.exe), while with a disalog open it's < 10% all the time.

Game installed through Wine 1.0 and PlayonLinux
When I click in the launcher to start the game, the sound clip associated to
the "start" button crashes and basically "hicks up" like if the OS would freeze
when you play music and overrides all audio in-game. The game still runs
appropriately however, though very slow considering my specs (Q6600 + 4GB Ram +
Gefore 8800GT)

Summary: NOLF GotY: Long audio samples get truncated
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.7
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

Created an attachment (id=16938)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=16938)
Normal console output from wine run (no WINEDEBUG)
Using (unpatched) GotY version of the game "No One Lives Forever".
I didn't find a patch for the GotY one. I suspect it's already patched.
Issue: Long audio samples get truncated. This happens for example with the
intro sequence music or when characters have conversations. Audio is simply cut
off at the end. Pretty bad if subtitles are off.
Going to attach the console output. Nothing suspicious there.
Setting component to directx-dsound since I'm pretty sure that NOLF uses a
dsound audio backend.

Tobias

I can confirm that this bug is still present with 1.1.7.
Using a native dinput.dll and dinput8.dll does indeed allow for keyboard input,
but the game is still somewhat unstable. Sometimes it crashes as the track is
supposed to start sometimes it crashes a way into the track.

When attempting to play the Tomb Raider Underworld demo for the first time, a
glimpse of what seems to be the game itself is seen, although very discolored
(covered with white and black textures). This is only seen for a split-second,
following it is some background audio and a green square is visible at the
bottom right hand corner of the screen.
No matter what graphics settings, resolution, even if I run the demo with
virtual desktop, nothing seems to help. I will post the exact errors soon.

I'm pretty sure it's still there. I'm also pretty sure it will be a while
before this is fixed, if ever. Any kind of solution will likely be in the form
of hard coding our internal uniforms, and having multiple versions of the same
shader.

To be honest, Im not quiet satisfied with the final resolution of this bug.
1. You can not demand that a user never change his hardware in almost 2 years
and switches cards just to see if a wine bug exists or not.
2. In this special case a simple code lookup is required by an experienced
developer to say if this bug(limitation) still exists or not
3. Demo? Does not exist.
Its not the situation that I desperately want to fix that bug, well no I dont
experience it anymore. But thats only because I have a dx10 capable card, which
all of them seem to have more then 256 constants available.
But remember that this game is a dx9 one, so if its impossible to solve this
bug witch wines current d3d implementation, we should at least warn the user
about it.
Moreover, as I already stated bug #10206 is a 100% duplicate of this one.
"Crysis fails to render properly at all for me (see attachment), whereas on
other systems, it looks fairly good.
The only difference is that that user is running a Geforce 8600 GT and I am
running a 7900 GTX. Same Wine version and settings, and same driver version."
Now guess why.
I reopen for now until a dev says that wine doesnt have this limitation
anymore.

With Wine 1.1.3 I am no longer able to install any MSI based version Word
Perfect Office. I have tried all Wine development versions up to 1.1.7 without
success. By contrast, these version of Word Perfect Office install OK with
Wine 1.1.2 and back to Wine 1.0.0 and earlier. So this is a regression.
The InstallShield installer reports:
"The wizard was interrupted before Paradox could be completely installed."

It is also necessary to kill an InstallShield program before Wine will exit:
C:\PROG~FBU\COMM~CP1\INST~JM1\Driver\7\INTE~MEX\IDriver.exe -Embedding
I have run a 'full regression' between Wine 1.1.2 and Wine 1.1.3. The end
result of which was:
ubuntu@holly:wine$ git bisect good

Surprised by this result, I ran the regression again. The end result of the
second run was:
$ git bisect bad

I believe that during the second regression I was able to install successfully
using builds against commits made between the two shown above.
I tried installing against the end result of the second regression run. Each
attempt failed. I then attempted the installation using WINEDEBUG=+relay in
order to collect a detailed log for submission. The installation was
successful. I ran the installer again without the WINEDEBUG=+relay and it
failed with the InstallShield wizard claiming it had been interrupted.
Installs are done using a script that starts by deleting .wine to ensure
consistent, valid results. The scripts installs winetricks corefonts wsh56 for
Word Perfect Office 11 and 12 and winetricks corefonts wsh56 gecko fakeie6 for
Word Perfect Office X3. I have used this script for testing purpose since Wine
1.0.0.
Trials against Wine 1.0.0. through 1.1.7 were run in kvm/qemu virtual machines.
A new clone of an up-to-date Ubuntu Hardy was used for each Wine version. The
Ubuntu variant is Xubuntu - an Xfce desktop under gdm. I used SDL to display
VGA output rather than a VNC session.
The regressions were run on a real machine also with an up-to-date Ubuntu
Hardy, but the Kubuntu variant - KDE desktop under kdm. For the sake of
completeness, XDMCP was used to log in to the main server from where an ssh -X
was used to login in to the machine on which the regression were run and the
installations attempted.
I use CC="ccache gcc" to cut down build times. The second regression run was
not expected to compile anything but, since the bisection was not the same, I
guess it must have.
Sorry, but trial versions of these old releases of Word Perfect Office are no
longer available for download.
Any suggestions as to how I can get some information that might be more helpful
?

man 2 chown seems to say;
Only a privileged process (Linux: one with the CAP_CHOWN capability) may change
the owner of a file. The owner of a file may change the group of the file to
any group of which that owner is a member. A privileged process (Linux: with
CAP_CHOWN) may change the group arbitrarily.
And my tests confirm this...
Now from memory some POSIX systems allow ordinary users to chown, but I think
they are BSD derivatives (it's been a while since I admin'ed any non SVR4 or
Linux machines).

That doesn't require root access. You can still reassign the owner to root
(assuming you currently have access to it).

I have a sort of simple work around for this problem, of course this assumes
that you have access to root on your machine...
$ sudo su -
# cd ~user/.wine/drive_c/"Program Files"/"Firaxis Games"/"Civilization III"
# chown root . civ3PTW Conquests

# ln -s LSANS.TTF Conquests/LSANS.FOT
This should allow you to create and delete files in those directories, but more
importantly it will stop wine from deleting the LSANS.FOT soft links, and then
when it tries to read the .FOT file it will read the .TTF file and it will all
just work! :)

Hello,
revisiting.
Yes, that app still unearths deficencies in .NET Framework 1.1 installation.
The app crashes for me at startup.
Wine: GIT (1.1.7+)
App: 6b9bc1db7994f2664c1f1935df95f0b502277cb4 rufzxp_fw1_1_setup_1_1_1.exe
If it really worked for you earlier then this might be a regression in msi.
>From a quick glance it seems that Wine's msi doesn't publish/install some
assemblies into GAC.
One prime example is: "Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll" assembly.
The app expects this assembly in GAC (otherwise it won't run).
It gets installed to:
"C:\\windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v1.1.4322\\GAC\\Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll"
- which is correct as _temporary_ location before final phase.
Windows installer always employs 2-step transactional process for CLR
assemblies.
At the end this assembly should get published/installed to:
"C:\\WINDOWS\\assembly\\GAC\\Microsoft.VisualBasic\\7.0.5000.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a\\Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll"

So what should we do with this bug?
The bug title doesn't reflect the current problem.
Either change the title to something more matching or close this one and open a
new one copying the information there.
---
As side note: While investigating this, I encountered that race condition other
people occasionally reported but no one including me took it for real...
Google for: StopDarwinService() - Call to ControlService() failed! winehq
Only happens with winetricks dotnet11 (or some other installer which tries to
interact with msi server service) when WINEPREFIX is being newly created.
Looks like there is a SCM race between msi service shutdown - initiated when
wineboot exits - and the app executed immediately thereafter which tries to
query/control the service.
I added a note to appdb entry, though this might also apply to other stuff.
As quickfix, you might want to put a small sleep (3-5 secs) before spawning the
installer in winetricks to make sure msi service shutdown is finished after
wineboot exited.

I'm confused:
this behaves in the same way it has behaved for months: works, but doesn't exit
cleanly.
Shall I file a separate bug about this?

Hello,

Current version tested:
http://www.ebase.org/files/ebase/ebasepro220-070714-winsetup.exe
Yes, correct $I10_OUTPUT prototype/stub is still missing.
The app is based on FileMaker.
Judging from how the app builds the stack frame before calling $I10_OUTPUT and
extracts return data:
calling conv: cdecl
return type: int/long (1 = ok, 0 = IEEE overflow?)
arg1: long double value (real80, 10 byte) -> MSVCRT__LDOUBLE
arg2: int max_digits (max. count of digits in following structure)
arg3: int flags ? (not sure, the app has it hard coded to 0)
arg4: ptr to caller supplied result structure, I call it "I10_OUTPUT_DATA"
struct I10_OUTPUT_DATA
{
short decimal_point_pos; /* decimal-point position */
char sign; /* sign indicator: "-", " " */
unsigned char digits; /* number of digits returned (excluding NULL term) */
char digit_buf[1]; /* storage to digits string (including NULL terminator) */
}
Example dumps of arg4/I10_OUTPUT_DATA data after app called $I10_OUTPUT:
--- snip for long double "0.0" (retval=1) ---
00 00 20 01 30 00 ...
--- snip ---
decpos = 0, sign = " ", digits = "0"
--- snip for long double "1.0" (retval=1) ---
01 00 20 01 31 00 [30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 39 33 00]...
--- snip ---
decpos = 1, sign = " ", digits = "1"
--- snip for long double "-1.23" (retval=1) ---
01 00 2D 01 03 31 32 33 00 [30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 38] ...
--- snip ---
decpos = 1, sign = "-", digits = "123"
--- snip for long double "-NAN" (retval=0) ---
01 00 2D 06 31 23 51 4E 41 4E 00 ...
--- snip ---
decpos = 1, sign = "-", digits = "1#QNAN"
The remaining parts of digits buffer seems to get overwritten, but of no use
for final result (digits taken until first NULL terminator).
If you fix the function signature and .spec file you get following output (only
printing out args and returning 0, not touching arg4):
--- snip ---

--- snip ---
The arg types seem ok, but the output structure needs to get initialized,
otherwise garbage might be taken for valid.
Initializing it with plausible values seem to get the app further, though
$I10_OUTPUT will need a real implementation, converting the long double to
string representation.
Hope this helps for any takers.

Since I upgraded to wine 1.0-rc3, whenever an action is needed while in play at
a table, and the big buttons jump up instead of the checkboxes (users of this
program will know what I mean), the window "jumps" a few pixels in the
direction of the upper left corner of the screen. If you don't manually
reposition the window every few games, it might just jump across the borders of
the screen. Not only is this quite annoying, since this hasn't been the case
with wine 0.9.26, which I used before, but it also makes me just a tad seasick
:)
I tried creating a backtrace using gdb, but gdb crashed before Pokerstars
couldn't even connect to it's server.
Is there any other debugger I should use, or is this description clear enough?

Z-Buffering in Supreme Commander with Wine 0.9.61 is acting funny. Things that
should normally be underground are visible, shield effect overlap is wrong,
buildings obscure things in fromt of them. This is very prominently visible in
the Aeon construction effect, and when rotating camera at ground level. Also
water seems to be rendered over most units that should float on the surface.
Wine 0.9.60 works correctly. I will post screenshots and try to do a bisection
later when I get some hardware problems sorted out. I don't really know what

I don't know if I'm the only one having this bug in Wine, haven't found any
information through Google.
The issues is in all recent versions of Wine. The only program I use with Wine
is Warcraft III, and the only version I for now want to use is 0.9.43. With
newer versions the game starts REALLY slowly, maybe 1 to 2 minutes. And also,
if I use an ATi-card i get graphical bugs in the menus. Lastly, when people on
Battle.net are typing stuff in the chat, certain messages are not viewed.
Really strange. I don't get error messages, it is just...not there. Maybe
Warcraft III is getting old, but with every version of Wine since 0.9.43, for
me it feels like the support is getting worse.

Summary: Microsoft Office 2007 does not install with default
rpcrt4.dll
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.60
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: root(a)cybikbase.com
This bug is puzzling. With a freshly-installed (from budgetdedicated, i'm on
Hardy Heron) Wine 0.9.60, I can start the Office 2007 installation, and it
technically works. Entering data, choosing everything, all that works.
But when going to install said files, it doesn't progress. When checking in the
terminal in which the installer was manually launched, the (builtin) rpcrt4.dll
file makes it crash.
Here's where it gets weird: on a tutorial, it is said that CXGames' rpcrt4.dll
makes the thing install. I get the source, get rpcrt4.dll.so to compile, copy
it to my .wine/drive_c/windows/system32, and voilà , it installs. Then, delete
it, and now it runs! It won't install with the STOCK Wine rpcrt4.dll, but it
does with the CXG rpcrt4.dll, and the reverse is true for running the app.
I don't want to sound like a whiny bitch, but can someone investigate this?
(I'd SO like to just shatter the minds of my friends by launching the setup.exe
of office 2007 on Linux, install it, and get it working right under their eyes.
So awesome a feeling it would be.)
Trace of wine-dbg available on demand. Actually, I'll be happy to provide
everything needed to track this down.

Autocad 2008 (Polish, full) installation crashes. Full log attached.
This is different than bugs 8319 and 9809.
Ubuntu 8.04, stock 0.9.59 installation.
Wiped .wine directory.
"sudo sysctl -w vm.mmap_min_addr=0" applied to get around bug 12516.
It actually makes a point of bringing up the whole installer assistant, I
clicked through the screens leaving things as they were, and finally hit
Install, upon which there was a minute pause before the window got redrawn, but
eventually it crashed. This 60s delay (seen in the log) can't have been caused
by heavy workload as the computer was left idle at the time of install and this
is a Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz laptop. It's reproducible every time (checked five
times).
(If you need any other logs or details, please ask. There are numerous
architectural companies in Poland just waiting for Autedesk's AutoCAD to work
on WINE so they can finally leave Windows behind.)

When I switch from a virtual desktop to one with Lotus Notes running on it
(with wine), the content of the window is not always displayed. Instead, the
content of the window is a "dead zone" where, at first, the content of the
previous desktop is displayed then everything that is displayed there is keeped
in the window.
See the screenshot for the explanation.
I launched Gedit and Gnome-terminal on one desktop (you can see them remaining)
then I switched to the Lotus Notes desktop. Then I opened the main menu to take
a screenshot and the menu image remained in the "dead zone".
The workaround is to switch to another desktop and go back. After two or three
times, it should work.
This bug is a regression that came with Wine 0.9.57 (and the "Many window
management fixes." changelog.. hem). It was working perfectly in 0.9.55 and in
0.9.56 (but I didn't use 0.9.56 for a long time).

Azureus, uTorrent.. etc, bt in this case, it connects only to a portuguese

traffic is unlimited. This comunity only develops a program for Microsoft
Windows. Many Linux users have tryed this program with Wine, and it doesn't
work. This program can be found here:

patch changing the RtlpWaitForCriticalSection in dlls/ntdll/critsection.c to
look for exit thread status
When trying to play Need for Speed III, Hot Pursuit, the screen freezes about 3
out of 4 tries at startup for about 5 min before closing. Upon exit, the
terminal shows an error:
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7efec984 "loader.c:
loader_section" wait timed out in thread 001d, blocked by 001b, retrying (60
sec)
By running with WINEDEBUG=+relay I found out that the thread 001b seems to have
exit, but apparently it never released the critical section, thus the error. I
hunted down the place where the message is printed and if I modify the code to
look in the dead thread's exit status for anything other than STILL_ACTIVE then
the program always starts (but I still can't get -d3d0 to use hardware
acceleration at a decent rate |-(
After playing for a while with this patch in, upon exit I find the following:
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x60041bd0 "?" wait timed out in
thread 0022, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec)
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x60041bb8 "?" wait timed out in
thread 0022, blocked by 0021, retrying (60 sec)
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x60041bd0 "?" wait timed out in
thread 0009, blocked by 0022, retrying (60 sec)
I think that implies that the threads are now getting confused because I did
not *released* the critical section held by the dead thread, the new thread got
the critical section along with the dead, and who knows what's wineserver
thinking about that. Anybody has any ideas how to properly fix it?

think some error must have slipped through the regression testing. Used to work
perfectly.

Error log!
Wine isn't able to install the game out-of-the-box, I could install the game by
disabling the "mscoree" dll. Once the game is installed, I activated the dll
again as native. The installer also installs a bunch of d3dx9_xx.dll
By applying the crack, the game crashes with this error:
err:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_SetTexture Current stage overflows textures array
(stage 256)
I attached the full error log!
Please let this game work, because my sister buyed this game this summer, and
it still doesn't work... (Off-Topic)

Worms Armageddon (Patched to latest beta from team17 site) crashes.
Progress so far on making it work on wine 0.9.56 is getting it to the menu and

Crash occurs on going into options and trying to change anything, ie team
names.
Before it crashes you see it minimize to a small box at the bottom left of the
screen. Looks like its not taking the patched ddraw.dll that I have made from
other bug reports and the worms armageddon app entry.

Summary: WXTide32 fails to display popup from main app window
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.55.
Platform: PC
URL: http://wxtide32.com/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: comctl32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: n5470(a)pinefields.com
WXTide32 is an app (based on xtide, effectively an enhanced port of xtide to
Windows, released with GPL - http://wxtide32.com/ ) that displays tide levels
for specific locations in either a conventional window and/or a system tray
icon. Clicking on the tide information in the main window should give a popup
showing time and tide level for the location picked on a graph of level vs. TOD
(time of day). In the AppDB, this app (V2.0?) is reported as creating a "grey
block" when left-clicking on the tide graph. This report was confirmed with
WXTide32 V4.7. In debugging another app [Coastal Explorer - see Bug 11548],
builtin comctl32.dll was replaced with native comctl32. V4.7 still does not
display data in the popup. However, two different changes in behavior have
appeared: 1) the popup now goes away when the left-click ends, as expected, and
2) the popup may either contain a grey field or the upper left corner of the
screen background image (which, conveniently, is sufficiently distinctive to be
easily identified) even though the popup is *not* in that location; the
background segment is being blitted(?) to the popup. In summary, using native
comctl32 alters the problem (popup is no longer permanent) but does not fix it
(data to be shown in popup is still missing).
A similar popup is supposed to appear when the cursor passes over the system
tray icon for WXTide32 and that happens as expected. The problem, then, is
only in a popup from the main window and not from the system tray.
WXTide32 is invoked with:
wine /usr/local/windows/src/wxtide32/wxtide32.exe
I plan to re-install the app in the ~/.wine structure to see if this restores
the missing popup contents.

This may be related to or masked by bug 2149 / bug 1798.
A user reported that his in-house app couldn't even
jam anything into the IP address control:

I tried [Robert Reif's example app from comment 1 of bug 2149].
I also can type into it and can disable/enable it.
but my problem is more than that.
In my app, I can also type into ip address control box. but the thing
is what I typed is simply ignored.
I am not actually a C/C++ programmer. So I can read codes and modify
but it's not easy for me to start a new app by myself. So sorry I cant
give u a example.
but hope this helps:
as i need to set port and IP.
the port input box is simply a text input box. with the following codes,
my app can display 49152 and 1 respectively in my two ports input boxes
in WINE in Fedora 8.
/***********************************************************************

GetDlgItem(IDC_EDIT_MTX1_PORT)->SetWindowText("49152");//default value
49152 can be displayed in WINE
GetDlgItem(IDC_EDIT_MTX1_PORT)->EnableWindow(TRUE);//normal text input

GetDlgItem(IDC_EDIT_MTX2_PORT)->SetWindowText("1");//default value 1 can
be displayed in WINE
GetDlgItem(IDC_EDIT_MTX2_PORT)->EnableWindow(TRUE); //normal text input
box
/***********************************************************************

but the following codes:
/***********************************************************************
***********/
GetDlgItem(IDC_IPADDRESS_MTX1)->EnableWindow(TRUE);//ip address control
input box
GetDlgItem(IDC_IPADDRESS_MTX1)->SetWindowText("1.1.1.1");//default value
cant be displayed in WINE
GetDlgItem(IDC_IPADDRESS_MTX2)->EnableWindow(TRUE);//ip address control
input box
GetDlgItem(IDC_IPADDRESS_MTX2)->SetWindowText("2.2.2.2");//default value
cant be displayed in WINE
/***********************************************************************
***********/
My app does not show "1.1.1.1" or "2.2.2.2" in ip address control input
boxes in WINE.
And of course the codes work in windows.
In Wine, when the ip address control gets focus, I see
err:ipaddress:IPADDRESS_GetPartIndex We subclassed the wrong window!
(hwnd=0x2002a)
on the console.
--- snip ---
He can't provide a demo app, but perhaps the above info is enough
to track this down.

Summary: Europa Universalis 3 - Crash after intro

Hello!
I'm having a problem running the game Europa Universalis III with Wine (I am
willing to spend a lot of time with this since EU3 is the last thing I need to
get working to get rid of Windows). I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy on a Philips
laptop with Core2 Duo processors, an ICH8 chipset and a Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller. I know that there have been discussion about
the compatibility of these Intel chipsets and Pixel Shader 2.0, but since the
game is working great on Vista, I see no reason why it couldn't with Ubuntu.
Please note that I am a very new to Linux, so I'm sorry if there is something
obvious I've overlooked. I have tried to backtrace my steps with as much detail
and as many logs as possible below:
I got the latest version of Wine, 0.9.54. EU3 is sold for downloading through
www.gamersgate.com, and I still have the installation files from the download
left, so to install the game, I opened the original setup.exe in Wine, to
install on my Virtual C drive. There didn't seem to be any error, the terminal
showed this during installation:
fixme:reg:GetNativeSystemInfo (0x34fea0) using GetSystemInfo()
fixme:process:IsWow64Process (0xffffffff 0x34fe9c) stub!
fixme:advapi:CheckTokenMembership ((nil) 0x12c7d0 0x34fe1c) stub!

fixme:shell:IPersistFile_fnGetCurFile (0x13b698)
fixme:shell:DllCanUnloadNow stub
fixme:shell:DllCanUnloadNow stub
fixme:shell:DllCanUnloadNow stub
I attempted to start it with 'wine eu3game.exe' and got this:
err:module:import_dll Library MSVCP60.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\Paradox Interactive\\Europa Universalis III\\eu3game.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program
Files\\Paradox Interactive\\Europa Universalis III\\eu3game.exe" failed, status
c0000135
So I downloaded MSVCP60.dll, put it in .wine/drive_c/windows/system32, added it
as an override DLL in winecfg and made a new attempt, this time with
winelauncher. I get the intro movies (there are two of them, launched before
the game starts) and everything looks great, sounds work, but then it just
crashes before the game starts. The error log is attached as eu3log. I also
tried with debug on, the full log is attached as eu3logfull.
Checking for patches, I found a 1.03 patch for the game which I installed with
wine. While this seemed to work, I got a lot of errors, as in attachment
eu3patchlog. On launching eu3game.exe with wine again though, the exact same
error messages as before shows up after the intro, and nothing else.
Finding the game in the appdb, I saw that a user had managed to get the game
working taking the following steps:
* Using native versions of MSVCP60.DLL and D3DXOF.DLL (needs to be set to
native,builtin in winecfg/user.reg)
* Adding "VideoMemorySize"="128" and "UseGLSL"="enabled" to the
~/.wine/user.reg file
(* Setting "OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo" and "DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl" for
improved Performance
* Setting OSS as only sound driver)
* Starting wine from the game directory or using winefile
* In the GameDirectory/settings.txt set fullScreen=no
I followed these steps (the ones between parentheseses was attempted but found
unsuccesful, and thus removed). The results are the same, I made a new pair of
logs though for someone with more technical knowledge to evaluate if this had
any effect. These are attached as eu3log2 and eu3logfull2.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me, or any direction as to what
seems to be the problem.

On Windows, foobar2000 will detect that you have more than one CPU, and when it
does things like converting, replaygain scanning etc. it will run one thread
for each CPU (ie. decode two tracks at once for dual core). When running in
Wine, foobar2000 seems to think there is only one CPU even when there are more
so it only ever runs one thread.

I know this would seem a bit controversal , but i was thinking that since we
have hit version 1.0 of wine it could be a very good move to clean up the appdb
results.
I was thinking that all old results ver < RC could go to archive, and we just
leave all the recent results, maybe add a trigger to db to move all the rc
results to archive on commiting a report that involves wine 1.0.
For other apps that didnt have any rc results maybe we should leave only 5 most
recent ones, or maybe just leave empty app desciptions and encourage ppl to
send new reports.
This would probably give a lot better overwiew of what works and what doesnt,
for both users and dev team (hopefully).
Also the howtos should go to archive as i found MANY of them to be outdated, a
lot of things work from scratch without any post installation tasks.
maintainers could easly move the howtos from archive if they would still be
needed.
This is just a general idea and would need to be more thought out, but in my
opinion it would be good to think about that.

Hmm. On one machine, it still crashes the same way.
The appdb claims, with wine-0.9.32, that the app
will install if you replace its Java with a fresh one,
but that failed for me.
Happily, I found a good workaround.
The installer turns out to be a cab archive,
so you can just cabextract it, and run the inner installer
with the commandline option -? to get InstallAnywhere
options (cf.
http://www.acresso.com/webdocuments/PDF/IA_runtime_command-line_arguments.p…)
In particular, the option
-i console
avoids trying to use directx at all, and lets the
installer get a lot further. I didn't get to finish testing.

Denying all write access to the cstrike dir is overkill!
I.e. you cant change your config after that (at least ingame)...
All you need to do is create fake motd_temp.html and maybe download.html (owned
by root), and deny yourself (read-)access to them.
Bash (in your cstrike dir):
rm motd_temp.html download.html
sudo touch motd_temp.html download.html
sudo chmod 0600 motd_temp.html download.html
Note: In case your games are saved on ntfs (so you can play in windoze, too)
This method wont work then! Ntfs-3g does not correctly support access-rights,
AFAIK. You have to create the files on another fs that does and symlink them.
(ln -s /other/fs/motd_temp.html)
Happy fraggin' ;)

I recall trying that some time ago, and it didn't work any better. It just
created a different exception. I think the function that's missing
(D3DXCreateEffectPool) is more complex than a simple dll override.
I haven't tried in a while though...

I cannot confirm this for BF2 (haven't tried it) but for many other games
(CS:S/TM:N) I've the same result: Using fbo makes the games hang.
So yes, there is a problem with fbo in wine 1.1.7

OK I retested under wine-1.0 and the result is the same. I wrote lstask.exe,
that's why you haven't heard of it. It simply uses ITaskScheduler to enumerate
workitems and displays associated task information via activating each one for
a specified windows machine.

Wine supports the MountedDevices key, but CurrentControlSet\Enum

I'm using 32bit Ubuntu Hardy Heron, wine 1.1.7. I installed BF2 just fine
without errors, installed some windows libraries for direct 3D (found out how
to do it from here
http://vostrolinux.blogspot.com/2007/11/setting-up-battlefield-2.html )
Battlefield 2 Boots up just fine, I of course don't have a mouse cursor, but I
am able to start a single player game. Game works, but I have the
"overhang/blob/shader anomaly/cloud/sky glitch" This renders the game
unplayable. I try the registry Direct3D "fbo" fix. It renders my game
unbootable-- the EA video plays, then after ~3 seconds, the video/application
hangs indefinitely.
I'm guessing the Direct3D "fbo" fix worked in an earlier version of wine, but
not in 1.1.7? Can anyone confirm this so I have some valid reason to try an
earlier version? If it is my version of wine, can I have some info on what
version works best with BF2?

Is this a duplicate of Bug 13355, or vice-versa?
The other bug provides a text file for use as a test case, which would answer
the question of what size file it takes to cause it to take a long time.
Here are the contributing factors that I identified on that bug to cause files
to take longer to open:
1. Larger file sizes.
2. Larger font sizes.
3. Larger line lengths.
4. Smaller window width.

I have not checked any other 3d application yet, but the upgrade from 0.9.51 to
0.9.52 royally messed up 3d visual experience. The world is mostly black, when
one looks around there are some perspectives in which one can see the sky
outline upside-down. Screen overlays seem to work OK still.
The display in everquest 2 has never been perfect, but is usable when disabling
the complex shaders entirely. But with 0.9.52 it will be impossible to play.

The mouse pointer does not behave normally on the menu, it appears to be
severely under responsive and if you move the mouse too fast it does not appear
to move at all.
Moving the mouse slowly will make the mouse pointer creep in slightly in the
direction you move, but only after trying (my patience ;) very hard.
Also tested with a dll override dinput.dll (Windows 2003), which makes the
pointer usable but over responsive. It does go where you ask it but you have
to fight with it to make sure it doesn't go too far.
I've attached the output from WINEDEBUG=dinput wine FlankerDemo.exe

When playing the game "Project IGI" the mouse will only rotate for a while (180
degrees I think) before stopping, then you have to rotate back the other
direction to workaround this.
This makes the game unplayable in my opinion, since it's pointless to try and
workaround this while being shot at.
There doesn't appear to be anything relevant to this in the console output.

Product: Wine

Platform: Other
OS/Version: other

Severity: normal

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hein(a)kde.org
"Aliens vs. Predator 2" is a first person shooter developed by Monolith
Productions using the LithTech Talon game engine. While the game runs and looks
fine, erratic mouse movement renders it unplayable: When the mouse is moved at
normal speeds to change the view angle, it seems to immediately move back or
recenter itself, making it impossible to look around in a controlled fashion.
Only when the mouse is moved very, very slowly it is possible to turn around
without that "back-snapping" effect. As soon as the speed surpasses a certain
(low) threshold, mouse movement stops being usable.
The tested version of the game is the latest patch level, v1.0.9.6.
The version of Wine tested is v0.9.50. The Wine configuration is fairly
untouched. The Windows version is set to Windows XP. Pixel and vertex shader
support is enabled, and the offscreen rendering mode is set to fbo. The sound
driver is ALSA. No DLL overrides were added.
Testing was undertaken using nVidia's proprietary graphics driver in version
160.04 on a GeForce 8800 GTX, with X.org v7.3 (xorg-server v1.4.0.90) and Linux
v2.6.23.10. The mouse is a Logitech MX1000 using the xf86-input-evdev driver in
version 1.1.5. The distribution is Gentoo Linux.

For my proffession i use often a winhelp document.
To work whith that document i often use the search function.
In my version of wine 0.9.46 (in Ubuntu 7.10) the search function does not
work.
Other users of the same version had the same problem.
Is the searchfunction going to work in the newer versions of Wine or is it not
going to be solved?
Greetings from Anko Monster

Since wine 0.9.49, clicking on the menu causes worms armageddon to crash (it
appears to be attempting to minimize itself because it has lost the focus).
This makes it impossible to play the game. No hacks are necessary to reproduce
this bug.
Git bisect shows that the problem started after this patch:

When you have two screens with 1680x1050:24 each side by side, you call
ChangeSettings() with a settings of 1680x1050:24 it will try to use Xrandr to
change the size of the entire display (and fail). Windows will change the
primary display of a multi-head configuration to match the settings of the
request, or if it already matches, leave it alone (which in my case it
generally does).
