Legends of Might and Magic used to seem like it was in dire need of the DIB
engine, as the menus were unusably slow.
I tested it on Wine 1.1.7, and now menus (the ones that do work) work at a
usable speed, but the cursor and text and various menu parts display as black
boxes...so I think I'll take the DIB engine off of it as a bug since it doesn't
seem to be the reason there.
(I might post a bug report about it's issue but the game is so old (2001) I
doubt anyone would care anymore.)

Wontfix. XGrabButton makes it possible on Linux to listen for events of a
certain type (such as Control+right click), but Windows can't do it without a
low-level mouse hook. Since we can't tell what kind of event the program is
looking for, Wine would need to filter all mouse input through the program.
I've been told Wine won't do that sort of thing because it creates a bad user
experience if, for example, a thread hangs and we end up killing all input.

The latest Flex Builder is version 3. Old versions are still
available from
http://www.adobe.com/support/flex/downloads_updaters.html
In particular, this bug is about
http://flexorg.wip3.adobe.com/flex201/FlexBuilder_201_Installer.exe
(sha1sum 01559050fc0efc1bff1325595b4dc5438f99ccc0 ).
I suspect your success was with Flex Builder 3; that does install for me.
Flex Builder 2 still doesn't quite, though now instead of crashing,
the installer puts up blank windows. They seem to be live -
random clicking in them sometimes gets them to the next step -
but not very usable.

Hello,
--- quote ---
4.5 works, but still gives similar errors. It looks like the program is buggy,
but happens to work under windows due to the stack layout (i.e. maybe the stack
is zeroed on windows).
--- quote ---
No, the program is not buggy - it just reveals a wine shortcoming ;-)
The app seems to walk the process virtual memory map using
VirtualQuery/NtQueryVirtualMemory, looking for free vm regions.
If it finds them (MEM_FREE), it stores the info in a list to be later used for
allocation.
Failure to allocate a vm region with specific base address will force
rescan/walk the vm space again.
The main problem is that wine's vm regions reported as MEM_FREE (which
basically means it's not found in wine's internal list of virtual memory views)
doesn't mean it's really freely available for allocation to apps (unlike
windows).
Some of the "free" regions are committed to linux dynamic libraries/glibc
allocations (see /proc/<pid>/maps).
The app unfortunately requests some of the regions reported with MEM_FREE with
a base address which wine can't mmap() exactly (conflicting addresses).
Partially mimicking memory managers in apps might not always be a good idea ...
Regards

I have been unable to get Age of Mythology Gold working under wine 1.1.6 on

updated to their latest versions (1.10 and 1.03 respectively), and No-CD
patches installed on both executables. The output from wine's backtrace
returned at the console is attached below.

This is much better now. To repeat, follow steps in #10:
$ wget http://www.jsware.net/linux/riched.zip
$ wget http://activex.microsoft.com/controls/vb6/richtx32.cab
$ wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
$ rm -rf ~/.wine
$ sh winetricks vbrun60
$ cd .wine/drive_c/windows/system32
$ cabextract ~/richtx32.cab
$ wine regsvr32 richtx32.ocx
$ cd ~
$ unzip riched.zip
$ cd "RTB test"
$ wine RichEdTest.exe
Now find works fine, with all options.
LockWindowUpdate still does nothing, though.
That's the last bug left, but that's not a riched problem; that's bug 52.
So I'll mark this one fixed.

Summary: Bugsplat software crash reporter crashes

When run normally, bugsplat's BsSndRpt.exe crashes with

"HTTP/1.0", "", 0x7e1454d8, 04400040, 00000000)
Funny that the dwFlags argument, and evidently *lpszAcceptTypes,
are garbage in the crash case...?
(Not sure if BsSndRpt.exe in this case is the example one from Bugsplat
or not, this is in a non-public app. I'll try to find out.)

When launching any Windows console programs with 'wine', the text will be
output in the DOS codepage, no matter what my Unix encoding is. For example, if
I launch:
wine cmd.exe
having a Russian locale (ru_RU.CP1251) it will output Russian text in Windows
codepage 866, which is unreadable.
wineconsole works fine because it provides its own console with the correct
codepage. Exampple:
$ wine cmd
‚ҐабЁп CMD 1.1.5
Z:\home\zap>
Should be:
$ wine cmd
Версия CMD 1.1.5
Z:\home\zap>
I think the layer which outputs text to stdout/stderr (and reads from stdin)
must convert everything from UCS-2 or WANSI to current Unix encoding (which can
be obtained with nl_langinfo (CODESET)) and not to DOS codepage. The
wineconsole layer may be left as it is.

Default values for DAC color palettes in VGA are not fully implemented. This
is a known issue in the "dlls/winedos/vga.c" source. References outside of the
first 16 colors produce black pixels.
This is relatively trivial to fix & I have fixed palette entries for the first
50+ colors in my personal build of Wine. Assign the bug to me and I can work
on this - especially since little/no work has been done to the VGA subsystem in
years.

loses a few characters to the left of the window (or has them eaten by control

Openoffice.org 3.0 RC1 installs perfectly in Wine 1.1.4. However, none of the
applications (Writer, Calc etc) can be started. Every time you start up this
version of OO.org, it takes you to the "registration screen" and it is
impossible to get past that.
This problem happens when starting OO.org from a shortcut and from the
command-line. Even starting an individual app directly (e.g. scalc.exe) does
not work. You still get the registration window popping up.

I've noticed that while using Shareaza, if I modify the preferences within
Shareaza, they do not save at next startup. It returns back to standard
post-installation settings. This is annoying as I have to go into preferences
every startup to enable Gnutella1 and EDonkey.
P.S. To test this bug, MAKE SURE you download from
http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/ and NOT Shareaza.com as that website is
hacked.

did so, Lotus Notes has major problems. After I minimize the window, when I
unminimize it, all that I get is the window frame and the
minimize/maximize/close bar. The window content just shows the desktop below
it. I see no content. I rebooted my computer to see if that helps. It didn't
help. Sometimes the very first time I unminimize after starting Notes the
window shows. All other times nothing shows after unminimizing the window.

Hello,
I am using Wine 0.9.58 (max Wine version here shows 0.9.57). I've tried to play
the racing game Flatout. Everything looks perfect - except for shadows. Shadow
of my own car is drawn properly, but other car's shadows are nothing but a
black square on the ground.
The game is set to use Triple Buffering - I've chosen this on the first screen.
However, I don't know how to choose it without triple buffering - this screen
is not coming up again. The settings are not stored in the game's directory,
because on Cedega this screen showed up.
On cedega, game runs flawlessly, except the load time is much longer.
I will have to give the game back to my friend soon, if I'll figure out how to
disable triple buffering (because I think this may be causing the trouble),
I'll post it here.
Removing .wine directory didn't help at all. The game still runs PERFECTLY, but
with the shadow issue. And, Flatout 2 demo works perfect. They should compile
these games with winelib.
PS. The output is quite long (92KB).
My system:
Fedora 8

Celeron 3GHZ and GeForce 8600GT

Hi there,
I just noticed that keyboard input in Half-Life doesn't seem to work for me.
I'm currently using wine version 0.9.52, but already tried to downgrade to
0.9.51, 0.9.50 and 0.9.49. That does not fix the problem. But I knew that
0.9.49 wasn't giving me this problem when previously playing Half-Life on this
system.
So the problem had to be somewhere else. Because it was keyboard related and I
updated the xorg-server recently, also updating xf86-input-keyboard I suspect
this to be the keyboard driver.
What exactly is the problem?
I have a german keyboard (QWERTZ layout) and the last keyboard row above the
row where the space key is, is giving me problem.
On this row are the keys ...,Y,X,C,V,B,N,M,...
Now these keys work fine when working on the console and in Xfce. When using
Half-Life the keys seem to be somehow remapped.
Pressing Y outputs a X, pressing X gives me a C, C -> V, etc.
This does only apply to this special row of the keyboard. My friend who was
using wine-0.9.52 the day I first experienced this does not have this kind of
problems. He was using xf86-input-keyboard-1.1.1 this day. I have another
desktop machine which also has version 1.1.1 of the keyboard driver installed
and also does not show the problem.
My friend currently updates the keyboard driver to 1.2.2 (the version I'm
using) to reproduce the problem.
A few further informations. My current XkbLayout is "de", there the problem
appears. When changing the layout to "en" the problem is gone, no remapping
occurs there.
This problem does not appear when using some standard win32 gui applications,
so I suspect this to related to direct input (AFAIK Half-Life uses this).
I'm also going to file a report on the gentoo bugzilla, because of a possible
input-keyboard regression.
Bye,
Tobias

Created an attachment (id=9773)

crash output when ALT+TABing away from atDesktop window
The application installs fine, but does not start properly.
Attempting to start the application results in a screen resize (expected) and a
new window entitled "atDesktop" at this point the application appears to be
completely hung.
Switching to another window via ALT+TAB results in a page fault (trace
attached). Then two more windows are created, both entitled "Signin 2002" but
none of the windows have any display and can not be closed.
At this point a "wineserver -k" appears to be needed.

Output of "wine Madden08.exe", the program's launcher
Recently added Madden NFL 08 to the AppDB, I was able to get it to install with
some native DLLs, now I'm trying to run it.
The application's "launcher" does not display, only a couple of the buttons
show up (Readme, FAQ, Uninstall) when you roll over them, and the Play/Exit
buttons do not show up.
Running the "mainapp.exe" which is the actual game executable, it crashes with
a dsound error and then unhandled page fault.
Running mainapp.exe with a native dsound.dll stops the dsound error and seems
to get a little farther (but not much farther) and crashes with a segmentation
fault.
I've attached a log of the launcher run, the builtin dsound.dll run, and the
native dsound.dll run.

Rayman 3 Demo shows white screen (totally - excluding top black frame
(unrelated bug)) which blank to gray and then again white..
Looks like back buffer/front buffer flipping.
After several flips there is a main menu of the game (in 3d, working correctly)
It broke at 8b42238b5b420d4ae13f863b3a8db70ccf143cca
user32: Cache the window class name on the client side.
(I have found that commit via git bisect)
Before that it showed (after one bad white 'flip') a picture and a progress bar
at top of the screen (so we can see clearly a game is loading)

With a native d3dx9\36.dll, the games works quite well for me. Though when
lauching the game by wine Launcher.exe, it complains that it can not find the
sound card. But the sounds are here :D
By lauching the game with wine swea.exe, all is fine. No message about the
sound.

Still present in git. You'll hit bug 15744, then you'll need native msxml3 to
avoid another crash (didn't file a bug for that, someone should). You'll also
have to set your clock back to 2000/2001).

Summary: Only first USB joystick (js0) of two is
activated/available with Wine
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: heliflyer(a)arcor.de
My two USB-joysticks (js0, js1) - which are pedals and joystick - work without
problems with all native Linux simulations like FlightGear, Torcs, etc.
With Wine and all Windows simulations ONLY the first joystick (js0) is
activated/available, no matter which order I use.
It is not a matter of the second joystick (js1), if I plug it as js0 it is
working/available in the sim and the former js0 - now js1 - is now not
available.
A trace with "WINEDEBUG=+dinput" is attached.

--- Comment #19 from Austin Lund <austin.lund(a)gmail.com> 2008-10-23 17:35:08 ---
My thoughts on how to do it were more of a hack than a proper implementation. I
would not recommend it as a sustainable solution.
The proper way to do it I think is as outlined. However, this is not very low
hanging fruit and will require a lot of work. There are a lot of
interdependencies and I thought an incremental approach would not work, but I'm
happy if I'm wrong.
Note that I tried to get tests included. The biggest issue here is not the
tests, it is that the ITextServices and ITextHost assume the use of the
thiscall calling convention, even in C (!!). Check the patches sent by me to
wine-patches earlier this year on how I thought it might be done. However, the
goalposts kept moving on me and then I ran out of holiday time :(.
I was able to make a trivial ITextHost implementation. Again, written with
hack like purposes in mind.
If someone could get unittests in (even if it only contains a test of one call)
that cover the thiscall stuff then this would be good and a full test suite
could be written and things can move forward fairly rapidly. This first step
probably requires quite a bit of thinking but not much code.

Screenshot showing the font clipping due to wrong font selection
My application is coded in C++/VC++, is compiled on Windows, and there the
controls are sized to show correctly with the selected font at design time. The
font being used for the dialogs is MS Sans Serif (font size 8). When the
application is run under Wine, the forms/dialogs are created using some
alternate font which results in text labels being clipped (as in attached
screenshot).
I am not sure but this could be because the windows font is not available, or
some other .ttf fonts are present.
As a workaround to the clipping problem I tried installing comic.ttf, but if
more than one ttf file is present, Wine seems to be picking the font in some
random order.

Right now there is a item binding screen obscuring the whole visible area and
also preventing various actions in inventory.
The screen should normally be accessible from equipement screen by pressing 1 8

The game is currently in non usable state with that bug.

It seems to me that wine 0.5.59->0.9.60 update has broken Hitman Contracts.
I haven't tested the game on 0.5.59 but the people are saying it's working fine
on it. This could also mean, of course, that there's a problem with my system
but I bet the bug is on wine.
I'm attaching crash log right away.
Note: this is not a duplicate of the bug #7113. The game crashes even if you
use the game's OpenGL renderer in this case...

Reverting the bad patch should allow you to test.

console log
I'm sorry to reopen the bug, but I still hit this.
The problem occurs from running game, not from game menu.
It seems when exiting the game the thread that runs music is waiting till the
music finishes (2-3 minutes) and then is released.
Ataching the log.

I have been interested in working on it, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
When I do start coding, I would like to not interfere with work in progress by
others. So, let me know where you are at if you are working on it.
Austin Lund, you mentioned that you have an idea for a proper implementation.
I was wondering what direction you were taking.
I will also share my thoughts on the implementation of windowless richedit
controls. The main goal being to use as much existing richedit code to
implement text services while minimizing the impact on using richedit as a
control.
These are the steps I think we need to take:
1. Create a ITextHost implementation for the richedit control.
1.5? This ITextHost implementation could be manually tested against native
richedit's text services to try to implement a richedit control.
2. Modify the richedit code to use the ITextHost implementation from step 1,
removing it's dependance on having it's own window. This could be done
incrementally, and could be tested for regressions using the existing richedit
test suite.
3. Implement the ITextServices interface by using the existing richedit code,
and swapping the ITextHost implementation created in step 1 with the ITextHost
implementation given by the parent window (provided in the call to
CreateTextServices).
Comments on this approach are more than welcome.

The problem still exists with wine 1.0.1 and 1.1.6. Copying the installed
software from a windows computer doesn't work (license issue).

Hi,
I tried to install Multisim 10.0.1 Student Evaluation, but installation fails.
The first step, unpacking the zip exe file does work, but running setup.exe
fails, saying it requires Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher.
Same thing for stable wine 1.0.1.
Find the last lines of debug output attachmed.
I ran wine setup.exe with WINEDEBUG=+msi
