Basicly it's what comment #5 already contains.
Could you please check if you can replicate the problem with it?

yes. The problem appears only with some sufficiently big number of variables or
their length. It may not appear with very small number of short variables.
> If so, please provide a "good" script with a smaller number of variables
to go along with your "bad" script.
The original code where I'm calling php.exe is written in Delphi, but I guess
it's not appropriate for the report. So I'll try to create demo in plain C.

Bug still present on Wine 1.1.5, using Office 2007.
But it doesn't just apply to Equation Editor. The same happens if I try to
insert an Excel worksheet or a Powerpoint drawing.
Maybe wine is not aware of the installed applications?

When the "Show position of pointer when the Control key is pressed" Wine
doesn't respond to presses of the CTRL key most of the time. The little
notifier that circles the mouse shows up, but the problem will not respond as
it should. I would know, because I wrote the program.
Ubuntu version 8.04 (though I noticed the problem since as far back as I've
been using Ubuntu, which is 7.04), and most every Wine version, including the
newest one on Wine's website which is wine-1.0-rc1.
The fix I've found is to turn off the feature (in System --> Preferences -->
Mouse) under "Locate Pointer" and it will work as expected, but with that
feature on it will not.

I was trying to figure out how winegcc works, because I wasn't able to compile
a test program to make sure my fix works properly. Because of that I haven't
been able to write a test case for what I implemented, and until I do I doubt
my patch will be accept. What I really need now is for somebody else to test
the patch, and confirm if it works for them or if it doesn't work. I haven't
had any issues with the patch, but perhaps somebody else will have. Any
feedback is appreciated, though.

I got the full European Broken Sword 3 version, on two cd's, using Securom.
After I install it, it runs fine with my patch, using the current GIT, or any
version between when I posted this patch and now. I haven't tried running the
demo using this patch.

It seems that this bug is caused by a graphical setting. I'm working on
figuring out which one, but the game runs fine (albeit with a few minor hiccups
when loading landscape) when Compatibility Settings (graphics settings designed
to be compatible with most hardware) are loaded.

I still haven't figured out how to fix this bug, and I don't know enough about
wine to step through the code, but I did notice that in XP, I see a popup
window saying "Closing FTP connection" after the data tables are loaded. In
wine, TroopMaster hangs after the data tables loading popup, but no popup about
closing the FTP connection comes up.
I have a valid license for TroopMaster 2008 and DotNet, and it's installed
under Wine 1.0 on Ubuntu 8.04, Windows XP SP 3, and even with VirtualBox under
Ubuntu.
If a Wine developer can give me a test I can run to help get this bug fixed,
I'm more than willing to help. I just don't know anything about the inner
workings of wine to be useful in a debugging sense, and don't really have time
to learn it.

I am running a program which executes an ICMP ping to check lag to other
clients. The program uses ping very often. Everytime the program tries to
execute a ICMP ping, the following error eccours:
WARNING: Trying to use ICMP (network ping) will fail unless running as root
I dont want to run wine with root privileges. It just makes no sense to give
wine full root privileges just to run a ICMP ping.
I run the program with
WINEDEBUG=+winsock wine Program.exe > trace.txt 2>&1
to create a trace.txt which contains some debuging information. I attached it
to this bug report.
I am not sure, but I guess that wine tries to execute a sendto() to the kernel
to open a PF_INET socket. But to open a PF_INET socket root privileges are
neccesary, I guess.
There must be another way to allow wine to execute an ICMP ping. One solution
would be that wine uses /bin/ping. But I dont know if this is the best
solution.

Sorry for double-posting, but I found a near-perfect fix for the meantime...
Change the spacing of the style being used to some other, than the default 0,
value (for example 0.001 -- to make the change least visible) and the problem
should be fixed.

The audio editing app, Wavosaur doesn't run with Wine. It requires mfc42.dll. I
downloaded it from dll-files.com. After copying this file into

different - attached. Wavosaur doesn't need to be installed, it's just one .exe

Summary: Max Payne Demo 1.05: rainbow texture artifacts on player
model
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.0
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: liquid.acid(a)gmx.net
Hi there,
I wanted to know if my system (Celeron M 1.5GHz, Intel i915 gfx chipset) was
powerful enough to run Max Payne, so I tested version 1.05 (latest) of the demo
on this system.
It works, but I encountered some visual errors. Looks like parts of the
character textures become rainbow colored (see screenshots for more details).
This problem is not permanent. It's happening randomly and so I suspect this
could also be a bug in the mesa i915 driver (so I'm filing a bugreport there
too).
Thanks,
Tobias

I think it is quite common for the games try to detect "real" cdrom when
running, even when installing. We got cdrom emulator in the Windows, so I think
we may try to do the same for the wine. However, many cdrom emulator done the
job by register a another piece of driver, I don't know how can wine deal with
this...
Well, in fact I also fail to got one game installed, although I have the no-CD
patch for the game, but have no way to deal with the installer...

Ok, I went back over my changes and I had used winetricks to try to get
Warhammer Online to work. By working backwards, here's what I've discovered.
1) You must start the game with the directory the game was installed to as the
current directory, or the game will fail with an error opening the translation
file before even switching video modes to start displaying the intro
videos/menu.
2) A normal install gives the errors previously listed shortly after the menu
screen appears. The menu music does play in the background, but I don't see
the background animating. I've noticed it also doesn't display the intro
movie.
3) By installing DirectX9 redistributable first, the intro movie plays and the
menu no longer generates an error that it cannot find translation files, but
wine dies immediately at about the same point with an unhandled exception
complaining about division by zero (sounds similar to the exception that
Ascaron's exception handler was catching). I will attach the wine console
output as 'fixmes with DX9'.
4) By accident, I discovered that installing to a non-default directory of
C:\Games\Port Royale 2 gets past this. It is possible to choose menu options
to start a new free game or to start a new scenario, but both cause wine to
report an exception of "denormal float operand in 32-bit code" before actually
starting the game. I will attach the wine console output as 'fixmes at
newgame'. Installing to the non-default directory does NOT fix the issue in
step 2; only installing the DX9 redistributable has worked around that so far.
5) I can load a saved game that was saved at the map successfully, but if I
click on a city to enter it, the game closes and wine reports the "denormal
float operand in 32-bit code" exception that I get when starting a new game.
There's also some severe graphical corruption in the menu screen where the
reflective water should be. Disabling the reflective water options make the
water look normal, but then there's some weird discoloration in the menu
screen. At the world map, the water seems to be too dark a shade of blue. I
haven't really tested any further because the crash when trying to enter a city
makes it basically unplayable, and the need to install DX9 probably makes these
problems very difficult to isolate and fix. Hopefully, the original problem
can be found and fixed instead.

The crash log I attached occurs running the latest PTR build, which implies it
might affect alot of people once the PTR patch goes live, and not just owners
of the Lich King expansion. I would've said that in my comment but I think the
database went down as I pressed save ;)
So I agree with the previous poster that this bug should be re-opened.

Never mind, I created a new wineprefix, installed and started trying to play
from there and now I'm back to getting a "Could not find translation files"
error along with a "Microsoft Visual C++" runtime error. Clicking OK on the
translation error dialog box opens the Ascaron exception handler with an
EXCEPTION_FLT_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO exception. This looks like the same bug reported
below, and is the same problem I was seeing in earlier versons of Wine.
This means I must have accidentally worked around this problem before while
working on something else without realizing it, probably while installing
winetricks to try to make Titan Quest work a couple weeks ago. I will begin
testing to see which one may be needed.

The translation error that was appearing in the main menu when starting,
leading to the crash manager, appears to have been fixed in Wine version 1.1.5.
I'm preparing to wipe out my Wine installation, reinstall PR2 from disc, and
see if it still works (and if it fixes any new problems that have since come
up). I will update this bug and create new bugs if needed when I've completed
retesting.

I downloaded Ares and tried to use it, only to be unable to connect to their
servers. I have set up ports to correspond to my router, but it still doesn't
connect. This is weird as it does connect when I use Ares in Windows. Somoeone
has already complained of this issue as well, look in AppDB for more info.

Summary: Wine causes process hang in kernel when running
applications from FAT partition
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.39.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: krzysiek-bugs.winehq.org(a)lichota.net
Distro: Kubuntu Dapper 6.06
Wine: 0.9.9-0ubuntu2 (tested also with 0.9.39 from winehq.org)
Kernel: 2.6.15-29-386 (2.6.15-29.58)
This is kernel bug, but affects only wine, so workaround in wine is easier.
When .exe is run from FAT partition, wine process gets stuck in kernel in "D"
state and cannot be killed.
I have straced the process and it appears it is stuck in:
ioctl(9, TUNIOCGETINFO or VFAT_IOCTL_READDIR_BOTH
This way user can prevent unmounting FAT partition by running wine on FAT
partition.
To reproduce:
1. Mount any FAT volume (for example USB pendrive)
2. Copy some file.exe file to it.
3. Run: wine /media/mydisk/file.exe
4. Wine hangs and cannot be killed.
Possible workaround is to recompile wine with "#define VFAT_IOCTL_READDIR_BOTH"
in dlls/ntdll/directory.c commented out.
I have checked that it works.

Summary: moving/resizing undecorated windows broken in dual-
screen setups
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.4
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dima(a)gmail.com
I have a second monitor attached, so my first monitor's top left corner is at
(1280, 300). If I try to move/resize a window that has custom decorations, wine
gives wrong pointer coordinates to the window manager, and the window jumps
down and to the right.
The problem seems to be in X11DRV_SysCommand, dlls/winex11.drv/window.c. It
uses GetMessagePos to get the pointer coordinates - which returns the values
relative to the first screen. Then it sends _NET_WM_MOVERESIZE to the window
manager - which expects absolute coordinates.
I'm not sure what the right solution is, but I have a work-around: subtract the
value returned by GetWindowRect, then translate to the coordinates in the root
window using XTranslateCoordinates. (I've never used win32 or Xlib, so please
excuse my code.)

During the cell level, the background is neither rendered properly nor erased

a trail. If the player moves his cell, all objects on the screen are
effectively moving in the opposite direction and they all leave trails at once.

Severity: trivial

Installing wine in parallel, like running "make -j99 install", has a high
probability of failure. Errors look like this:
make[2]: Entering directory `.../wine-1.1.4/dlls/wintab32'
/usr/bin/install -c wintab32.dll.so /usr/lib/wine/wintab32.dll.so
make[2]: Entering directory `.../wine-1.1.4/dlls/wintab32'

make[2]: Leaving directory `.../wine-1.1.4/dlls/wintab32'
make[1]: *** [wintab32/__install__] Error 2
make[1]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
The reason for this is that the dlls subdir is entered twice, once for the
target "install" as dlls is part of INSTALLSUBDIRS, and once for the target
"install-lib" as required as a dependency of programs/__install__.
The dependency on install-lib has been present in the tree for quite some time
now, and was first introduced by Alexandre Julliard in 2002 according to
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=commit;h=ada5e6521bfb0ca5
The inclusion of dlls in INSTALLSUBDIRS seems to be a recent modification which
was not present in 1.1.3. It's again by Alexandre Julliard according to
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=commit;h=b3ec2e5f95e36aa9
The issue surfaced quite frequently on Gentoo Linux, as Gentoo encourages
building packages from source and employing parallel builds for this. See also
the original report at https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=237011
There you can also find a patch which seems to work around the problem.

Summary: Several fonts don't appear in Phothoshop CS

--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=15950)
Example Fonts with the issue
Several fonts don't appear in Phothoshop CS although they're in the
windows/font directory.
First of all:
- Photoshop groups the fonts by family name and style. That's OK.
- Photoshop doesn't show identical fonts (family/style). That's OK, too.
The problem is that Photoshop thinks that some fonts have the same style and
eliminate valid fonts styles.
It happens only with some fonts (arial font and its styles works great).
In Windows system there is no problem.
It is a font problem in Wine:
- For example, if I put only the bold font in windows/fonts it appears in
Photoshop CS like Regular, but in a Windows system appears like Bold.
I think this problem can be a general wine problem with fonts and not a
specific application problem.
The attachment include several fonts to reproduce the error:
- Photoshop only shows Regular and Italic for the ArenaCondensed font (but
fonts include Bold and Bold Italic).
I have more fonts with the problem if you, guys, need it.
Thank you.

widl doesn't generate code for handling SC_RPC_HANDLE being NULL.
RPC_X_NULL_REF_POINTER is raised for NULL pointers on strins.
So it makes sense that RPC_X_SS_IN_NULL_CONTEXT should be raised for NULL
handle.

I get the error message "The cluster size in this system is not supported."
when trying to install fonts (arial.exe) which has worked for me before.
On a hunch, I moved my .wine directory out of my NFS-mounted
home directory and onto a local disk. Font installation worked
fine then.
The obvious thing that occurs to me is that the size of the disk
is too large (I have a 1.2TB file server):
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
server:/home 1220955136 1194313600 26641536 98% /home
I have 0.9.54 available as source and am happy to try patches against
that, but cannot use a more recent version due to the annoying VNC bug.

David

Seems like a z-order issue in rendering. In short, on the campaign map, where
land should be rendered on top of the sea background, the sea is rendered
instead. Fiddling around with in-game graphics settings or

The demo doesn't have campaign mode, so no free download. Appdb comments seem

Typing and entering over 8 letters in Japanese with input method, wine outputs
an error which says 'buffer overflow need n*3!' (n is the number of Japanese
letters here) , when input ignored and/or occationally the application will be

There may be a patch for it somewhere on the Net but the patch's version is

awful for me.
Is there good information?
I hope the next or the near version of wine will be fixed that bug.

I've been looking into this, and have found that the applet does indeed not
show up, but it seems as though the installer does not seem to register the
applet in the registry, or in any INI files, as far as I can tell, so the
control panel simply can't find it. I shall perform further testing on a real
machine to see what the installer does there, and whether it's simply playing
up on wine or not.
One issue I noticed is that, when you do put the .cpl in the system folder, is
that it seems to respond to the CPL_INQUIRE message with apparently incorrect
data (referring to icons that don't exist, and strings in the string table that
simply do not exist - the .cpl has no string table!). The CPL_NEWINQUIRE
message does return valid information, but it seems the control panel is broken
in that it is responding to the CPL_INQUIRE message wrongly (it should set
values in the returned structure to be CPL_DYNAMIC_RES). I'm working on a
little patch that will have the control panel try CPL_NEWINQUIRE if it gets
zero-length strings from CPL_INQUIRE (since the control panel appears OK in
Windows, I'm assuming Windows itself must do something similar). This will mean
that the applet should at least appear, and won't crash File Manager in shell
mode when viewing the control panel, due to zero-length strings (although
that's a different thing that should be looked at).
Are you getting the crash when quitting the control panel program because you
have the applet open at the time? If so, that's a known issue with the control
panel in general.

The installer says: Bioware Installer 1.03 (NSIS v2.34) in case that helps.
I get to choose language, agree to EULA, type in the registration code, choose
express or custom install (doesn't matter), then click install - it proceeds to
crash and traceback. Seemingly while trying to decide where to install.
The traceback as such only implicates user32 and the installer app itself.
Console output attached.

When you set a dll to native, Wine use the native (== Windows) dll.
> Unfortunately there seems to be no command
> to let Wine report if it runs with native libs.
Set WINEDEBUG, and Wine will dump the infos to stderr
WINEDEBUG=+loaddll,+tid,+process wine yourapp.exe
or
WINEDEBUG=+loaddll,+tid,+process wine yourapp.exe 2>&1 | tee logfile.txt

Summary: free space is based on dosdevice free space, rather than
partition free space
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.34.
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: michael.s.gilbert(a)gmail.com
wine will return the incorrect amount of free space to applications under
certain common scenarios. it appears that the free space is determined by the
dosdevice that has the directory that the application is running from. it
should be expected that the free space returned would be based on the partition
that has the directory that the application is running from instead.
let me provide an example to clarify. i've installed steam to
/home/user/games, which falls under the z:/ dosdevice, which is a symlink to /.
/ and /home are on different partions:
$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda3 9.2G 7.9G 914M 90% /
/dev/hda6 63G 30G 30G 50% /home
i am trying to install half-life2 via steam, which should be fine because i
have 30 GiB of free space in /home. however, the steam application says this
is not possible because there is only 914 MiB of free space, and the game needs
3.8 GiB total to install. wine is providing the free space for / instead of
/home to the application.
note that if i install the game to /home/user/.wine/drive_c/steam, then wine
correctly returns 30 GiB free space to steam and i can install the application.
i believe this is because the drive_c directory appears to be under the c:/
dosdevice, rather than the z:/ dosdevice. this is a solution, but it is far
from optimal to be forced into arranging my files in a way that i don't want
to.
so i think the problem is that wine returns the size of the partition of the

the partition that actually has the working directory.
i still don't think i've clearly explained this, so if you have questions,

With the patch
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2007-August/043447.html and the
next one it's possible to install Photoshop Elements 4. However the app will go
into infinite recursion - QDialog::move will call QWidget::event and this will
call QDialog::move. The only call the the APIs is
SystemParametersInfo(SPI_GETWORKAREA, ...) that returns a value which isn't
senseless.
It uses Qt 3.3.1.1 and there is no source code for this version generally
available - the open source version of Qt for Windows is only available for Qt
4.x. Maybe I should ask them if I can get a 30-day evaluation version.

wine-kthread Steam.exe log
When clicking Launch game for Team Fortress 2 on FreeBSD 6.2-Release, wine
quits with a GLXBadDrawable (X_GLXMakeCurrent) error.
Running on a Pentium M 1700 with 2gb of ram and a Geforce FX Go5200.
Tried the last 3 releases of wine (0.9.47 / 0.9.48 / 0.9.49) all with the same
outcome. Running the latest Nvidia drivers (FreeBSD-x86-100.14.19) and the
FreeBSD-kthread kernel patches from http://wiki.freebsd.org/Wine
I have disabled the Steam Community overlay but that doesn't help.
>From what I can tell, the problem occurs in dlls/winex11.drv/opengl.c : line
1690.
The latest version of wine (0.9.49 from git this morning) is a lot better at
loading steam than the last two versions. Steam loads a lot quicker and doesn't
die with a recursive malloc error 4 out of 5 times, now it seems to start
everytime reliably.
I will attach the wine output file with this.
I have installed and ran Soldat successfully (another D3D game), so I am
guessing the problem is to do with Steam/Source Engine games.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

I'd really love to use Pokémon NetBattle, a Windows only program that
simulates Pokémon battles, on Linux. If you want to reproduce this, you can
get it here:
http://www.tvsian.info/netbattle/download.htm
When trying to do that, installation works fine. The initial configuration
works fine as well (but only if I choose US English). Even starting works!
But when I click Team Builder and Load a team, NB freezes. As you need to load
a team for using NB, this makes NB pretty useless. I also know some other
people who'd like to run NB on Linux!

It seems that wine is not using the Linux's TCP/IP stack to hit the internet.

It seems that wine is not actually using TCP in some instances.
