OK, after testing with Irfan, it seems it is a timing issue in Wine. If he
inserts message boxes when a skin is being loaded, it starts fine in Wine 1.1.2
and CrossOver Games Mac 7.0 (Wine 0.9.55), but removing them again, everything
else being identical, it will crash with the skin on startup.

Recently I was trying to check if viruses are working on Wine, and I've found a
bug (I think)
I don't know if it's valid bug or not, but the virus is not working properly.
The virus is called Antivirus 2008 Pro.
When I did wineboot, it popped up a message if I want to remove viruses from my
comupter, I agreed. After that, the Antivirus 2008 Pro window came up, but it's
empty (I suppose there should be graphics and all, but it's gray and have some
labels on it like "security", "virus" etc).
Wineboot output and ps -aux are in the attachment.
I know that this may sound strange, but if a virus is working it means that
Wine works 100% correctly. This is a bug related to GDI, so it may affect
normal applications using this function.

In this case Blade of darkness, suffer heavy performane issues when a specular
lighting is draw on the screen, dropping framerate to 1fps or below on Direct3D
modes, even at lower resolution modes like 640x480.
I can confirm that is a specular lighting issue, because one of the fixed D3D
plugins that brings the game is for 3Dfx Voodoo 1 and 2 cards that didn't had
hardware support for specular lighting, and with these game runs flawless, in
the other side the rest of the D3D plugins runs at full framerate except when a
specular lighting is drawn in the screen, like when you're looking at a torch,
then is when framerate fall to its minimun.
Also older wine versions complaints about specular lighting drawing, latest one
(0.9.53) suffer exactly the same problem of any other wine version I have
tested with this game.
I add some wine logs

CC="gcc -m32" LDFLAGS="-L/lib32 -L/usr/lib32 -L`pwd`/lib32 -Wl,-rpath,/lib32
-Wl,-rpath,/usr/lib32" ./configure
If I then check include/configure.h, I get the following unlinked files:
/* Define to the soname of the libhal library. */
/* #undef SONAME_LIBHAL */
/* Define to the soname of the libpng library. */
/* #undef SONAME_LIBPNG */
These should be working - there are 32 bit versions of each located in
/usr/lib32 and they are being given a .so symlink like configure requires.
I should note that I am also missing 32 bit versions of libcapi20 and libjack,
however this is due to Ubuntu not having 32 bit versions of them, which should
be fixed by Hardy.

Hi guys,
I'm using OSS v4 for Linux. My setup is following:
# PCI card for output (has buggy recording features)
# onboard card for input (has no 5.1 output :))
Thus I ask you to implement the option to select ones input and output devices,
please, if you can, with winecfg into your OSS driver. :)
My setup would be following: output via /dev/dsp, input via /dev/dsp4 for
example.
I hope that's possible and not too hard for you.
With kind regards,
-Ionic

source code of the app demonstrating the problem
I recently tried out some small console apps written in Pascal with wine (they
were compiled with FreePascal), and while it worked fine in general, there's
one Pascal command which makes problems: CLSCR. Instead of clearing the
console, it just does nothing and hangs - apps with this command are unusable
(the program still runs, but it does nothing - like an infinite loop). I
attached the source and binary of a two-line pascal program demonstrating that.
It's not that I really need these applications, and of course I could simply
compile them for windows, but it seems a very basic command line function is
not supported by wine.

Summary: regression: windows almost never focussed or loose focus
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.43.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
Hi,
since upgrading to 0.9.42 and 0.9.43, I cannot use wine anymore because most
windows don't get focus or immediately loose it when clicking, even winecfg and
regedit. Some apps iconify as soon as I click something. I upgraded from 0.9.38
(so I don't know whether the regression was introduced with 0.39, .40, 41 or
42).
Although I'm using metacity in Ubuntu Dapper, I believe this bug is different
from bug #5120 as I had been using Ubuntu with wine successfully with 20070725,
0.9.9, 0.9.15 .16, .19 21 ... and many other versions.
Symptoms:
winecfg & regedit start without getting focus.
When I move the cursor from one window to the other, the "window resize" cursor
that was set while moving over the window's border remains set even after I
click to activate the second window.
There are also several refresh problems when moving windows (mostly grey border
lines) in winecfg and regedit.
Every time I activate the wine 800x600 desktop window, all ms-windows apps
become deactivated (some iconify then).
Normally, I have apps\metycity\focus_mode "sloppy" set via the preferences (the
Gnome prefs set "sloppy", not "mouse"). With that, the situation is now so bad
that wine is unusable. E.g. I can activate winecfg only by moving its window.
Then, approx every other click causes the window to loose focus (which causes
other apps to iconify). Every other click does not toggle the boolean
checkboxes in winecfg (because its window is not active).
When I'm not using a wine desktop window, the sudden iconification also
prevents the apps from being usable, as there's no "restore" menu available
(and "maximize" is disabled) in Gnome/metacity.
I have no other window managers installed on this machines to try.

With current GIT it has improved a lot, MSN Messenger 7.5 still don't connect
but it gets a lot further.
You have to install now native MSXML3. After that it will try to connect and
then it will ask you to update to the latest version but it will fail to
upgrade.
I'm attaching the console output before and after install native msxml3. Also
installing native msxml3 will allow you to save your data but that's another
bug.

Hi All,
Deep Burner 1.9 can not find CD/DVD Drive when blank disk is inserted.
If you put a non-blank disk in the drive and do a Linux mount before
starting Deep Burner, Deep Burner can find the CD/DVD drive without problem.
[the free] Deep Burner can be downloaded from:

Silencer is a video game that worked on WON.NET technology and died in 2001
because the servers went down.
Server binaries have been released and reverse engineered so that the game is
now again playable by installing the 0110.1 client version which is available
here:
http://downloads.arsia-mons.com/sil0110.1.exe
Online play works with version 0.9.25 of wine, but has broken in 0.9.49.
Trying to create a game conflict will result in an error after selecting which
server to host it on, and nothing appears in the chat. (A blue message saying
'There are currently x players online.' should be the first thing you see in
the Regional Squawkbox after connecting to the lobby)
I hope some wine developers can help but I will soon try to start my own
regression testing using the instructions here:

This is the terminal crash output from wine 1.1.4 using wine-XP settings, with
default WINEDEBUG. This seems to be the most descriptive.
I know there isn't much here, but other winecfg settings seem to have even less
information. Let me know if there's anything else that I can do to help you
out (I'm kinda new to the WineHQ bugzilla - as in, I made my account a few

Irfan Skiljan says it definitely doesn't free or allocate memory twice.
I've tested IrfanView 4.00, 4.10, and 4.20, all crash when the [Toolbar]
section is present in the i_view.ini file, irrespective of the skin chosen.
Remove it in a text editor, and it works again.
I've tested on a Mac with Darwine 1.1.2, CrossOver Mac 7.0 (using Wine 9.55),
and CrossOver Mac 7.1.1 (using Wine 1.1.0).
And it works fine in Windows.

The MaxPayne.exe can be called with the "-screenshot" parameter. This enables
an integrated screenshot functionality. You can then take in-game screenies
when pressing the F10 key. Shots are saved in the screenshots directory inside
the Max Payne directory. This works without problems in Windows.
Running Max Payne on wine results in completly black TGA screenshot file.

> Is this still an issue in current (1.0-rc5 or newer) wine?

It seems that this is still an issue with wine 1.1.4, although it's not quite
as drastically serious. The same error happens (tried with winecfg set to 95,
98, 200, and XP), although different Windows versions report it differently,
and instead of locking up X, the game just quits with an error, now.
It looks like it tries to access memory outside of its program memory while in
a critical section - the game has a popup that says "Access Violation" (there's
a screenshot of it in the Shadowbane AppDB screenshots), and there's a command
line error that states something along the lines of
'err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7d41f820 "x11drv_main.c:
X11DRV_CritSection" wait timed out in thread 0025, blocked by 0032, retrying
(60 sec)'. The wording is different with different winecfg settings (that was
from wine-2000), but it always happens while the world is loading in the
distance (if you stay in roughly the same area, you don't have to worry about
anything), and it always brings up the same error window.

Fixing the "general date format"/"else if (*pFormat == 'c' || *pFormat == 'C')"
part isnt enough.
The VarTokenizeFormatString() tokenizer has a general problem: the actual
variant type isnt taken into account (which could serve as hint).
---
Why not just fix this part?
As said by Damjan above, we can't alter VarTokenizeFormatString(). Why not fix
"if (*pFormat == 'c' || *pFormat == 'C')" to be "if ((*pFormat == 'c' ||
*pFormat == 'C') && COULD_BE(FMT_TYPE_DATE))".
This doesn't break anything, is used by several other cases, fixes the bug
(which affects atleast two apps) and only uses the format string.

This is the latest version of "msysgit" from Google Code.
This installs fine. However, when I try to do a commit (using the -m flag
which should allow you to type the message directly) -
andy@foo ~/mytest $ wine "C:\\Program Files\\Git\\bin\\git-commit.exe" -m
"First commit"
- I get this error -
"fatal: could not open DIR=.git/COMMIT_EDITMSG"
It should not need to open that file if you use the -m flag. I have used Git
directly on Linux for about 2 months, and this -m flag works every time there.

Just tried to compile with the same patch with the latest git and it fails

I would like to add that this happens even with the newer, >2.37, VSFilter
compiles (at the moment the newest is 2.39). I used AviSynth 2.5.7, and
VirtualDub 1.8.5 running on Wine 1.1.4.
Furthermore, this happens with ASS/SSA scripts too. A possible workaround would
be to change all spaces to some character and set its alpha to 100%, however
this is not a good solution since it'd override the value specified beforehand
and/or in the styles section, thus screwing up anything after it.
P.S. The new ones can be downloaded from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli2/

this turned out to be at least a partial duplicate of bug #13462. With the
patch/hack from that bug the gui comes up fine as well, and there's no need to

Something like this happens:
- app allocates memory using GlobalAlloc
- mem is freed
- a Wine gdi function allocates memory for an object, it gets the previously
freed block
- so far, so good..

Summary: Some checkboxes are not selectable in WinUAE
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.4
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.winuae.net/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
[I guess this might be a problem with Wine comctl32 or comdlg32, but I don't
know enough about Windows to say.]
WinUAE is an open source (GPL) emulator of Amiga computers, available from
http://www.winuae.net/. Some checkboxes in the WinUAE settings window cannot be
checked. (Others work fine however.)
To demonstrate:
- Run WinUAE
- Click on "Floppy drives"
- Note how the DF0: write-protected checkbox is greyed out. That is correct.
- Click the DF0: "..." button and select a disk image for drive DF0: in the
Floppy drives page. For example, select rsi1.adf after downloading and
decompressing ftp://ftp.coresystems.de/pub/uae/rsi1.adf.gz
- The write-protected checkbox is now blank. Click on it. The checkbox remains
blank, but it should become checked.
All(?) other checkboxes in the settings window seem to operate correctly.

Thinking about this more, the application should have its own exception handler
around the remote call which should catch the exception. Maybe the exception
doesn't have the right code...
Could you attach a +rpc,+ole,+tid,+seh,+relay log of the issue being
reproduced?

The fix for this bug is to disable font smoothing in XP. YOu can disable it by
going to the Advanced tab in System Properties, going to Performance and
clicking on Settings, then go to visual effects and uncheck "Smooth Edges of
screen fonts". The pink should be gone after you apply that change. It appears
it is not so much a bug as a compatibility problem with XP for a game built for
Windows 98. Enjoy!!

Okay, to add more information, Minitab1511_30Day_English.exe seems to work fine
(Minitab 15.1.1.0), although the full version of Minitab 15.1.0.0 (slightly
older version) does not. It could be an issue that they fixed. From what I have
read 15.1.0 didn't work on Vista and 15.1.1 fixed that, so perhaps whatever
they did generally improved compatibility.
However since 15.1.0 works on XP it seems logical to expect that Wine in XP
mode could also run it. Perhaps now it is lower priority though.

The colour picker with the black overlay
After applying the render-issue patch I managed to pass the cell stage and now
am in the creature stage. There, when trying to select a colour for the
creature, there is a black circle overlay that covers the creature display.
When taking the creature for a test drive (to see how it moves etc) there is a
weird small black copy of the creature on the screen. It could be a misdrawn
shadow

No retest is needed - just some tests need to be added to determine the
behaviour in the case of using ncalrpc with a non-NULL, non-empty network
address. Since we ignore it in the transport code, we should probably ignore it
in the endpoint mapper code too.

Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other

Here's my situation:
I'm using Wine's latest version (1.1.4) and I can't install anything!
Whenever I finish an installation, the program files are NOT created.
An example:
- I've just installed Foobar and I can't find it in my Program Files folder.
No, I didn't change the folder while installing it Also, I tried installing it
3 times and I can't find it yet. I've tried searching my whole Wine fake drive
and nothing was found.
- I've tried also VersePerfect installer and it seems to finish but the files
are never on the place it should be.

This is not big deal. Since I've found a stub on my wine log, I've decided to
try opening this installer (foobar2000) many times and the loading time might
vary.
Maybe this stupid bug might help in some other installers. Some times it takes
about 1 minute to open the installer. No, my computer is not slow at all.

Summary: Notepad++ 4.8.2 uninstall not working

Version: 0.9.57.
Platform: PC

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P5
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: imaxfun(a)gmail.com
I installed Notepad++ 4.8.2 for testing a bug on my Ubuntu 6.06 LTS system. The
program itself worked seemingly well, except for Firefox crashing when I was
making a report having the program still open.
Now, I wanted to replicate the steps for that crash. So, I chose to uninstall
the program, using its own Uninstall. However, nothing happens. I cannot remove
the Notepad++ even with the Add/Remove Applications tool of Ubuntu's own,
though. I still do have the program intact and fully functional. Not a big
deal, because the program really doesn't bother me and is working fine. But it
sure is a bug, although of low priority. Where, that's another thing.

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: chrisl63(a)hotmail.com
After doing a custom installation of Office 2003 (the only thing I changed from
the default was adding the equation editor), I can't create or edit equations
in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. If I try to, a message box says:
"This object was created in Equation. This application is not available to open
this object. Make sure the application is properly installed and that it has
not been deleted, moved, or renamed."
I can run the equation editor program EQNEDT32.EXE (in the Common Files folder)
by itself and it works, but this is useless because there is no save or open
equation feature since the program wasn't meant to be run by itself.
