I can't reproduce the problem with current Git (wine-1.1.3-484-g5e1ac66), so
this seems to be fixed.

Should get you started. Also, you might want to subscribe to wine-devel for
wine info/news/etc. Development questions come up quite a bit on there, and
more guidance can be provided there. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement, Dan, you know that we appreciate you.
Dan is right, BiDi cannot be developed without developers who speak either
Hebrew or Arabic. So we need to help and encourage them to contribute.
Coincidentally, just a few hours before coming across this bug I contacted
Shahar with a donation (I donate regularly to FOSS coders and projects). I
suggest that anyone who needs BiDi support to either code or to contribute to
those who can.

As you can see, I posted my comment almost month ago, and nobody even bothered
to comment here and to report the status on BiDi support.
Moreover, I found the specific bug about Office (Word Viewer) and commented
there, providing a link to the youtube video you linked to, and also there no
developer commented.
I think that the Wine project abounded the users which use BiDi.

I can confirm this bug in wine-1.0 on Ubuntu 8.04. Although MS Office 2003
installs fine, the Hebrew text is backwards. Googling the problem led me to
this video, which illustrates the problem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19I2qaykE6w
Note that the same version of MSO installs and operates fine on an
English-language version of MS Windows. However, that version of Windows is
Hebrew-enabled, which may be relevant.

The Warlords IV demo is broken. It locks data for 4 vertices in the vertex
buffer, but writes data for 6, and also draws 6 vertices. That's why you see
only half the screen in the intro. Using glMapBufferRange() in GL3 for VB locks
could potentially allow this to work anyway, but it would depend on how the
driver handles writing past the mapped region's end, and it's a game bug either
way.

Hello,
--- quote ---
Sounds like the same problem as reported in the bug 13152.
--- quote ---
Reading your explanation in bug 13152 (comment 6), I'd say it's more likely bug
10368 there.
The back pointer messes up the string data in free arena.
In this bug, the free arena back pointer is only a secondary problem.
The primary problem here is that non-BSTR related allocations in between BSTR
app code reuse BSTR arenas thus partly destroying the contents while the BSTR
data is still being referenced (and then double freed).
If you implement my hints, the problems should go away (already tested).
Regards

Yes, thank you.
There's a simple workaround for that.
You just have to create an empty folder called "download" and then you're done.
As for the tooltips, just close the app and it goes away.
It comes back when you paste more than one link or just after you've finished a
download, tough.
See you.

WindowsHater, are you really sure you haven't experienced this bug?
I've created a new prefix just now, installed rapget 1.41 and added a new link
to list - there certainly is an annoying persistent tooltip which just don't
get away from top-left corner of the screen.
Maybe you have some native dlls configured? Which version of rapget do you use,
on which OS, 32 or 64-bit?
As for your problem - Bugzilla is only for bug submission, not for support
requests. So your question is off the topic here and will not be tolerated by
Bugzilla admins :-). You should post in Wine Forums (or wine-users mailing
list). See this link: http://www.winehq.org/site/forums

I've never experienced this bug before.
I'm using Wine 1.1.3. No tooltip bugs for me on a clean wine installation.
The only problem I have is I can't find my downloaded files!!!
It's supposed to be on "c:\download" but I can't find it!!!! This folder
doesn't exist on my fake wine.
Would you give me a hand on this, please?

Hello,
good bug ;-)
This is another case of Wine using/managing heap(s) differently than Windows.
Wine uses the same process heap for all kinds of allocators - this leads to
problems in conjunction with OLE related memory allocation.
Due to app bugs multiple double frees of SysXXX allocated memory (oleaut32)
happen.
Because of "interleaving" allocation calls from non-OLE stuff in between, which
leads to reuse of previously freed blocks (shared heap), heap corruption takes
place.
The crashes happen some time later and the root cause is not obvious due to the
nature of heap corruption.
I'll leave the glory memory dumps/block analysis out here because they would
probably bore you anyway (hope you enjoyed bug 10368) ;-)
In short: This problem can be avoided by using the generic OLE allocator for
SysXXX API and a private heap for OLE allocators.
The following hints can be found using g00gle:
(+SysAllocString +heap +CoTaskMemAlloc)
--- quote ---
Turns out that SysAlloCString uses a 'special' heap managed by Ole32.Dll
--- quote ---
--- quote ---
CoTaskMemAlloc/Free do not use the same heap as the CRT.
They use a dedicated heap created on your behalf when the OLE DLL loads.
--- quote ---
--- quote ---
BSTR's are usually created and free'd using SysAllocString
and SysFreeString (there are some other SysxxxxString functions too). The
reason for this is that COM owns the heap from which these strings reside
meaning that you can safely pass them from one object to another.
--- quote ---
--- quote ---
First, on the SysAllocString and SysFreeString, they are just convenience
functions to CoTaskMemAlloc and CoTaskMemFree.
--- quote ---
I verified my findings and the google hints using the following changes:
- replaced HeapAlloc/HeapReAlloc/HeapFree calls of SysXXX family (oleaut32)
with appropriate ole32 generic allocator calls to
CoTaskMemAlloc/CoTaskMemRealloc/CoTaskMemFree
- created a private heap in ole32 (Dllmain)
- let any IMalloc_fnXXX functions use the private heap instead of
GetProcessHeap()
With the changes applied, the app (IDE) successfully starts.
This might also help other (buggy) apps which currently crash for no apparent
reason (due to OLE double frees).
Because heap corruption triggers crashes at random places this problem is not
easy to diagnose and worse it's affected by various combinations of debug
channels.
With the information given it should be easy for any takers to write a patch.
Regards

I'm trying Winamp 5.52 + Wine 1.1.3 in a Celeron 766Mhz + 512MB RAM PC100.
Ubuntu 8.04. I have not problems with audio skipping, even when using multiple
tabs in Firefox (or even when it's loading). Neither when installing a package
nor when compiling a program.
I think it had to be a really old PC to suffer this problem or a bug in Wine
resolved.
I haven't tried video, but one thing that really does not work is the Winamp
Agent and the smooth windows moving (they bump outside the screen if you
release the click too early)

works with wine 1.0, while it did with 0.9.52. This program uses parts of
gdiplus which is not implemented yet. Running without a native gdiplus.dll
does not work at all. With a native gdiplus.dll it worked fine with 0.9.52,
after some workarounds with the font registry as described in the AppDB entry.
With 1.0 however, as soon as one tries to enter a text string one gets an error
window:
Access violation at address 70D375A4 in module 'gdiplus.dll'. Read of address

The problem can be reproduced also with the free trial version of the program:

I installed fritz 10 and 11 in Ubuntu Hardy 8.04. My wine version at the moment
of test was 1.13. The problem is that the application launches correctly (in
both versions of the software) you can even play with the default settings the
program loads upon being launched. As soon as the user tries to access any of
the menus in the application, (to choose a different type of game for example
or change the software preferences) Fritz 10 and 11 stop responding, displays
the error message i attached in the image which comes out of a pop up window
and also freezes ubuntu (as in it locks up the entire ubuntu system) . The only
thing it lets me do is a CTRL-ALT-Backspace, which logs me off. When i log back
in, everything gets reset.

Someone sugested the hdr toggle option. There's really no need to press HDR.
All we need to do to workaround this annoying thing is press "esc" to the menu

I am seeing this bug on an Ubuntu 8.10 system with the latest winehq debs
(1.1.3~winehq0~ubuntu~8.04-0ubuntu1), running the Wrath of the Lich King beta,
build 8885, with an ATI Radeon 3870. This does *not* happen with the NVidia
GeForce 7600 GS the card was intended to replace.
This bug needs to be re-opened and re-examined, as it is still a problem on the
latest codebase. It's obviously ATI-specific, hopefully it's not something in
ATI's drivers though.
I can paste the WoW crash log if it will help.

Right. The IWineD3DSwapChainImpl_Present fixme should probably be harmless. A
small debug patch showed that both source and dest rect are 1024x768, which is
the fullscreen size as well.
Where to begin looking for this issue? It's still there in 1.1.3.

For Master of Orion 2 I can confirm the observation that 0.9.15 works and
0.9.16 doesn't.
Strange is that I remember playing MOO2 on my old computer with Wine versions
around 0.9.40.
I've added a HOWTO to the AppDB entry how to run Master of Orion 2 with Wine
0.9.15. If anyone has problems getting Wine 0.9.15 working please send me a
mail and I'll try to help.

I think we can't test those graphical dialogs. The existing PrintDlg test uses
the PD_RETURNDEFAULT flag to hide the dialog, but the page range values aren't
handled or set in that case (just tested on Windows), so I can't use it to test
my patch.

Summary: wine.inf - winebrowser issue
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.3
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: newsletter(a)Schiermeier-Software.de
wine.inf uses to create inside the registry this:
---wine.inf---
HKCR,http\shell\open\command,,2,"%11%\winebrowser.exe -nohome"
HKCR,http\shell\open\ddeexec,,2,"""%1"",,-1,0,,,,"
HKCR,http\shell\open\ddeexec,"NoActivateHandler",2,""
HKCR,http\shell\open\ddeexec\Application,,2,"IExplore"
HKCR,http\shell\open\ddeexec\Topic,,2,"WWW_OpenURL"
---
but this doesn't work if you change also the default browser in
---user.reg---
[Software\\Wine\\WineBrowser]
"Browsers"="opera,iceweasel,konqueror,epiphany,dillo"
---
because Opera don't know nothing about a parameter called '-nohome'. This is
only a specific parameter for the Internet Explorer.
My solution was to change 'winebrowser.exe -nohome' to 'winebrowser.exe "%1"'
and to delete the lines which are controll the DDE-process. This works with all
browsers. (The same I did with the HTTPS-protocol).
Could someone please check this item?

\WINEDEBUG=+comm wine microbrn.exe &> file.op
wine --version
wine-1.1.3
The name of the application I am trying to run has changed - it is just a newer
version of the same thing.
The results are the same and since upgrading to a newer OS wine 0.9.22 no
longer compiles so I'm really stuck now being unable to run two versions in
parallel.
I've seen suggestions that the root cause might be due to a driver / module
problem and not directly related to wine - how is that possible when it works
with earlier versions?
Is there anything that can be done to resolve this or should the bug be
abandoned?

Hi Dan
do you have the callgraph info as well ?
I wonder where all these calls to module_get_container and module_find_by_addr
(the good news is that those two functions are rather easily optimisable in
term of speed, but I'm a bit surprised by the time spent in those)
I would have expected a bit more time spent at loading symbol information, and
those two functions are barely not called in there
TIA

Well, it was not my point. If the new version worked, it would be great, but it
would not fix the bug that the old version does not work with wine but with
Windows it does - and that is what the bug is about, is not it? I mean, even if
it were a bug in the original program - wine aims to be compatible bug for bug,
right?
Anyway, it is fixed, so there is no need to dwell on it.

WinUAE buttons malfunction log (+loaddll,+text,+msgbox)
WinUAE is a free Commodore Amiga emulator for Windows (tested v1.440). It has a
main configuration window (Properties window) with typical control buttons on
its bottom line (Reset, Quit, Restart, Start, Cancel, Help). Emulation takes
place very well but often these buttons don't work: when any of them is pressed
the window pops down and up again into the same state as if no button has been
pressed.
Lots of .adf files (Amiga diskette images) can be downloaded from Back2Roots
site for testing. However starting the emulator requires some Kickstart ROM
files to be acquired elsewhere (Kickstart 1.3 better).

Hello,
it's most likely fixed in Social.FM/Mercora client but one can't verify this
anymore.
The company/product is dead now (
http://gigaom.com/2008/08/03/socialfm-formerly-mercora-shuts-down/ ).
The client times out when trying to connect for updates before showing it's
main gui.
The eclipse bug which is essentially the same problem works when displaying
embedded browser windows - so consider it fixed.
Regards

In Watchtower Library it still does not work, clicking has no effect, but in
Ace money, it does reorder the list, but there are few problems:
1. Sorting indicator does not change, it is still on the same column, in the
same position.
2. Also, there are only two ways how rows are being sorted, no matter which
column header is being clicked, that is rows do not get reordered as they
should. But they do change the order (there are only 2 orders). Or your hack
supposed such behavior?
I suppose it is the same bug in both programs, some kind of sorting subprogram
should be called, while it does not.

Can you give this patch a try? I haven't tested it extensively, but it seems to
work in Acemoney.

Same with my NVidia 7600 videocard and wine 1.1.3.
Patch (hack in the attachments) fixed that problem!
Why not to include it in wine?

I wonder which games except RO it works for.
For Mount&Blade it works the same way as Vitaliy's workaround. I.e. it makes
impossible to navigate in menu.
So i suppose that the principle the same but hack some how detect menu mode (it
seems that works only for some games) and off force mouse warping.

Don't use the DLL fix from comment #14 It is incorrect.
patch the file d3dx9_30.dll at offsets:
4c6f9, where there is a '83' replace it for '6a'
4c6fa, where there is a 'fe' replace it for '04'
4c6fb, where there is a '02' replace it for '5e'
save it and it's done.
As a reference the offset list from 4c6f0 before the change should read:
00 00 00 f6 45 f8 50 74 0f 83 fe 02 73 56 b8 57
And the offset list from 4c6f0 after the change should read:
00 00 00 f6 45 f8 50 74 0f 6a 04 5e 73 56 b8 57

in order for you to get EQ to run with the fglrx drivers you have to
first tupe ulimit -s unlimited then you should be able to run eq with no issues
other than the ones already documented. (IE model issues etc... which the work
around is documented here)

Summary: DPP: "Image edit window" blocks the app, crippling
functionality
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.61.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dturina(a)inet.hr
Canon DPP: Opening "Image edit window" causing app to block after upgrade to
wine v.0.9.61. When I open gnome system monitor I can see the processes, and
terminating "DPPEditor" allows the DPP viewer process to resume normally. In
previous versions of wine DPPEditor (image edit window) didn't draw the
auto-resize view properly, but in the new version it doesn't seem to work at
all. DPP users should definitely not use Wine 0.9.61 until this is resolved
because it seriously cripples app functionality.
DPP version in question is 3.2.0.4, running under Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64.

I'm still occasionally seeing the crashes when running in lower res AND with
the OS overridden to Win98, even in local games. :(
It seems to happen more frequently if I have another audio app running in the
background (Amarok).
I'm using Kubuntu 8.10, which does not use PulseAudio, with the sound set to
ALSA.
When it crashes, the entire machine locks up hard. If I get a chance this
weekend, I'll see if I can SSH in from another box to gather any info.

I tested it in Debian unstable with 1.1.3 and it had no such problems. Seems to
be a KWin issue.

"2. Receive mouse movement events from actual hardware / X server"
Ok, so this might be wildly inaccurate but is provided in the event it checks
out...: If wine sat 'xset m 0/0'(that i think, sets the mouse to no artificial
acc at all) on startup would not wine be able to get accurate mouse readings?
This is what, atleast pro gamers, want anyway because its easier to aim and
better to set acc & speed in-game. So if this is possible... :)

still present in wine-1.1.3, however...
using native msvcrt didn't make installer work for me, but disabling msvcrt
does appear to have a side effect.
Normally the install comes to a halt after loading msmcustomaction.dll and
calling the following function:
001a:CALL msmcustomaction.CustomAction_SxsMsmInstall(<unknown, check return>)
ret=7ed28c89
001a:RET msmcustomaction.CustomAction_SxsMsmInstall(00000002) retval=00000643
ret=7ed28c89
Disabling msvcrt through winecfg, it fails to load a dll and the install dialog
completes.

Summary: Wine not passing Windows program arguments correctly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.3
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: -unknown

ReportedBy: yfrwlf(a)gmail.com
When running, say:
wine C:\\Program\ Files\\Diablo\ II\\Game.exe -direct -txt
OR the Linux variant of the path
The arguments never reach the program. However, when going into the same
directory and running it from there:
cd /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Diablo\ II/
and then running:
wine Game.exe -direct -txt
It works. Even if you try to run it from one directory down, but still "on the
Windows drive", by going:
/drive_c/Program Files$ wine \Diablo\ II\\Game.exe -direct -txt
OR
/drive_c/Program Files$ Diablo\ II/Game.exe -direct -txt
It still doesn't work. So it's not some strange thing with needing to run wine
from the "Windows drive". Running it from within the Windows command line also
exhibits the same problem. When running:
C:\Program Files>Diablo II\Game.exe -direct -txt
It doesn't work, but when running
C:\Program Files\Diablo II>Game.exe -direct -txt
It works.

Yes they do. For example see bug 1410 for what will happen of you always warp
mouse pointer. And bug 8354 for what still happens now.
Obviously these two problems are opposites of each other. The only way to fix
them both would be to:
1. Never warp mouse
2. Receive mouse movement events from actual hardware / X server
3. When mouse acquired in exclusive mode, stop pointer from moving
Any other variations won't be enough.

I have a question, rather than a comment...
Do any of these hack patches break other apps?
I regularly apply Toni Spets' patch (the first one) when I upgrade Wine, and
I've never seen an app broken by this. (I always run with an emulated desktop,
so that may affect what I see.)
If these patches don't break anything, I'm curious (baffled, really) as to why
they haven't been integrated with a release yet.

I meant to include this as a comment to that attachment...
Patch is made against the latest git commit.
I've taken Joe McKort's idea (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=11303)
and added it into the new mouse code.
With this patch, instead of warping back to center on every mouse movement when
mouse warp is forced, it only warps when it gets within 2 pixels of the edge
of the window.
I've tested this with World War II Online, and it works well - the first person
view is flawless, and the menu system is navigable. I imagine it will work with
Crysis and other games currently having this problem.
On the down side, if your mouse pointer hits the edge of the screen in the menu
system, it will still warp to center. So it's an improvement, but it isn't
flawless yet.

>If it's possible to implement, the force-box suggestion sounds good.
That won't be as simple as you think. If the mouse pointer leaves Wine's window
- it's lost. Wine won't be receiving events from it and won't be warping it.
The only possibility that I can think of is to fix DXGrab first. Then you can
warp mouse on the border. Given you might loose some long movements, which will
negatively affect action games.

Wow, thank you! Problem solved. Software rendering runs perfectly now, except
for this fullscreen issue I just discovered. The game supports two resolutions
640x480 and 800x600. The main menu is always in 640x480. When a game is started
it switches from 640 to 800 (when graphic is on 'high') and I can see my
desktop on the left and bottom. Clicking in that area causes the game to lose
focus.
Can anyone confirm this? I'm on Kubuntu/KDE4 right now and I do have Problems
with KWin when switching resolutions (Plasmoids, e.g. the taskbar, don't get
resized) so I'm not sure if wine maybe runs perfectly and it's just kde4 acting
up.

After upgrading to 1.1.1 the game of Hearts of Iron 2: Armageddon stops loading
savegames. You can start new game, play for some time then save, but you can't
load. Also there is a crash when leaving current game through "Surrender"
button, this bug is of the same nature probably. 1.1.0 is OK.

D3D mode ceased to work with 1.1.3 and in software mode the wine dinput.dll
still causes the cursor to get recentered multiple times per second.
Using the most recent Microsoft dinput.dll (aug_2008) the mouse cursor works
fine but the keyboard is not responding. An older MS version of the file
results in a working keyboard but the mouse is confined to a rectangle in the
middle of the screen, even in 640x480 mode in the menu.

Summary: WarCraft III causes OSS to emit loud noise
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: test
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

Using WarCraft III, Wine 0.9.44 on OSS sound output, loud noise is emitted
regardless of the application outputting sound of any kind.
Using a wine built and run in place, 0.9.43 using OSS works as expected, as
does 0.9.44 ALSA. Of note may be that 0.9.43 ALSA does not output any sound at
all.

Using a plain xinit session and oss along with native devenum.dll and
quartz.dll, I was able to get the movies to play.
The color quality in them was very poor, however. I think the game may be
mistakenly putting some sort of bad filter over them, because when I press
escape to get out of them, they look normal for a split second. When I watched
the intro movie for the first time (no menu being rendered beforehand) this
problem did *NOT* appear.
Movies seem to work better in direct3d mode; if I use opengl the mouse always
goes crazy/becomes unusable after the movies are done playing.
If I try to run the game in a normal desktop environment, the movies are just
skipped, and there is a slight performance hit to the menu afterward (I did not
test to see whether that continues into actual in-game play or not).

Status: UNCONFIRMED

I can download the blizzard account applications fine.
When the download finishes and you click through to the installer it makes you
read an EULA.
The "Accept" button is greyed out and (in normal windows functionality) when
you scroll to the end of the EULA the "Accept" button can be utilized.
Running the Application from the download
"/home/chadwick/Desktop/D2-1.12A-enUS/Installer.exe" The output is quite
verbose and includes a lot of stuff from
fixme:mshtml:HTMLElement2_get_scrollTop and
fixme:mshtml:HTMLElement2_get_scrollHeight .
I will make a debug log if someone tells me how to run it.

Hi Cristian,
we cannot delete or edit messages in bugzilla. It's a bug tracking
system, not a user support forum. That's why we discourage
user discussion in bug reports; if you want to talk about
workarounds, the appdb is the place.
