The MouseWarpOverride=force doesn't work for Crysis. Using this option with
Wine 1.1.3 locks the cursor in the menu into the middle of the screen, and
whenever I move the mouse, it moves a little and jumps back. Without the
registry value it behaves the same way as previous Wine versions without the
patch (which worked).

The registry option + 'Allow DirectX apps to stop the mouse leaving their
window' enabled with winecfg works with wine-1.1.3 amd64 and AA 2.8.3 (except
the PB issue)

Some apps like eMule (cf. bug 5844) and FL Studio (cf. bug 3270) depend on

call ShowWindow directly because the state of the window has already been

I am not aware of any third party library installations. I tried to set it to
native anyway. I am not sure of I did it right. Unfortunately there seems to be
no command to let Wine report if it runs with native libs. Made the same
observation.

I confirm that Vitaliy's workaround works.
To make it work, I
1. ran regedit
2. found [HKCU\Software\Wine\]
3. added key "DirectInput"
4. in "DirectInput" added new string value "MouseWarpOverride"
5. set its value to "force".
The problem only that this workaround does work for some games that uses both
fp view and menu, because it forces mouse to middle of the screen in menu.
It would be good to have "force-box" option as it was told above.

You won't find it in winecfg because it's not exported there. It's a feature
that is only exposed in the registry, see:
http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys
And like every other special key there it has to be created.

Just tried the 1.1.3 on Outcast with the MouseWarpOverride force: the value
seems to work, even if the rotation of the main character is often too fast
(mouse sensibility is not the cause) which somehow spoils the gaming
experience.
I can also confirm that, as haarp noticed with Crysys, the starting game menu
is very hard to navigate with the MouseWarpOverride forced on.

Force stack alignment when starting process
Adds an assembly wrapper around the process entry point in start_process to
force the stack alignment to a given value mod 16. wine_call_with_stack_align
is modelled on wine_call_on_stack, but I realised half way through that we
can't rely on the Windows program to preserve esi, which makes the assembly
code a bit uglier. Setting 'align' to 8 matches Windows XP and makes the Doom3
demo work.

---snip---
VarTokenizeFormatString() needs to be modified to receive information of
expected token types too.
---snip---
Unfortunately VarTokenizeFormatString() is a public Windows API and cannot be
modified - unless you go to great lengths to sneak in the variant undercover,
eg. using thread locals - and even then it would only work when Wine calls it,
when it's called by Windows applications directly it wouldn't work.
We have to rely on just the format string to determine the type.

I just installed the game and, using the winetricks script, I installed Flash
player.
The patching procedure starts (not complaining anymore about missing flash
player) and ends successfully (btw, it's veeeeeery long), but then, when you
click on the "start" button to launch the game, the updater of the "XTrap"
anti-cheat software begins its update process and, after that, game crashes.
However, I think this is due to the "XTrap" software, not to a missing Flash
Player wine installation.
Probably this bug can be closed.

How to solve the "escaping mouse" issue:
1. Install PlayOnLinux - get it here:
http://www.playonlinux.com/en/download.html
2. Install Project IGI INSIDE PlayOnLinux, and make a shortcut to it INSIDE
PlayOnLinux
3. Install Wine version 0.9.58 INSIDE PlayOnLinux: Tools -> Manage Wine
Versions, select 0.9.58 from the list and click "Add"
4. Download the hacked dinput.dll.so file from:
a. rapidshare.com/files/115359174/dinput.dll.so
b. http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=15550
5. Copy the dinput.dll.so to the folder
/home/YOUR-USERNAME-HERE/.PlayOnLinux/WineVersions/0.9.58/usr/lib/wine
6. Open the folder
/home/YOUR-USERNAME-HERE/.PlayOnLinux/configurations/installed - you should see
a file named as your shortcut created at step 3 above
7. Open the shortcut to Project IGI and add the following line just below the
other "export" lines:
export WINEFORCEMOUSEWARP=yes
8. save the file
9. Run the game
10. Enjoy!

internally, the object states are correct. Thus I cannot test for this in the

The installation starts okay when I do the wine.inf change required to load
ddeml.dll (bug 7326) and set the windows version to Win95. Then it tries to
extract files from some .WIP files using the UNWIP.EXE and fails.
A message from "Setup Unzipper" shows "Errors encountered: 0".
My guess is that running UNWIP.EXE results in an error, as the string "Setup
Unzipper" is found in the UNWIP.EXE.
Attaching the debug logs from start up to the error (the action starts at about
line 530).
$> file unwip.exe says:
unwip.exe: MS-DOS executable, NE for MS Windows 3.x
Reading the test reports for the game in wine appdb, it says that the game
installed using version 0.9.58 of wine, so this looks like a regression.

Console output from "Typical" install
This is the bug mentioned by James Hawkins in comment #4 for bug 14439. This
bug was present in 1.1.1, but I did not notice it then because bug 14439
prevented the installer from even getting that far. It is still present in
1.1.2.
The installer page faults at the end of the install process, before the
"Install has completed successfully" message appears. I'm uploading console
output for both a "Typical" install and a "Custom" install of Word only. The
installer page faults at the same point in both cases, though the console
messages immediately prior to it are different.
Despite the page fault at the end, the install itself seems to complete
successfully; Word, at least, opens up fine afterwards. (Though I didn't test
it extensively.)

EM_SETTEXTEX which supposedly obeys ST_SELECTION (see
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb787954(VS.85).aspx ) but the
EM_SETTEXTEX handler ignores it, calling "ME_StreamInRTFString(editor, 0, (char
*)lParam);" either way, which via ME_StreamInRTFString causes ME_StreamIn to
delete the entire buffer and not just just that one selection.
I have checked that Windows XP does obey the ST_SELECTION flag as documented by
MSDN.
I suspect one fix is on the 1.1.0 version of
http://source.winehq.org/source/dlls/riched20/editor.c#L2184 , which should
probably set the second parameter of ME_StreamInRTFString to a true value.

max payne 2 demo run (large parts but out because they were identical)
Hi there,
I'm currently trying to get the Max Payne 2 demo running on my nvidia Geforce
FX 5900 based system. It has some issues with mirror reflections, bullettime
postprocessing and some other bugs already mentioned on the tracker.
I don't know how much this is related, but during the game wine spits out a lot
of messages on the console. During some normal length gaming sessions (should
have been around 20 minutes) I already got a >100MB logfile, without any
tracing activated, just running wine with no options.
The errors are of this type:
fixme:d3d:texture_activate_dimensions >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION
(0x502) from glTexEnvi(GL_TEXTURE_SHADER_NV, GL_SHADER_OPERATION_NV, ...) @
utils.c / 3410
In fact I shouldn't say "this type", it's always exactly this line.
I'm going to attach a modified log (cut out most of the log, because this
message repeats endlessly) so you have bit more context.
I'm adding Alexander to CC because he probably knows why this happens ;-)
Naturally I also did some research:
>From dlls/wined3d/utils.c:
if(GL_SUPPORT(NV_TEXTURE_SHADER2)) {
glTexEnvi(GL_TEXTURE_SHADER_NV, GL_SHADER_OPERATION_NV, bumpmap ?
GL_OFFSET_TEXTURE_2D_NV : GL_TEXTURE_2D);
checkGLcall("glTexEnvi(GL_TEXTURE_SHADER_NV, GL_SHADER_OPERATION_NV, ...)");
These are line 3408 - 3410.
Links to NV texture shader extension docs:
http://www.opengl.org/registry/specs/NV/texture_shader.txthttp://www.opengl.org/registry/specs/NV/texture_shader2.txt
(I still have to take a deeper look)
>From http://www.opengl.org/sdk/docs/man/xhtml/glTexEnv.xml:
"GL_INVALID_OPERATION is generated if glTexEnv is executed between the
execution of glBegin and the corresponding execution of glEnd."
In case NV_texture_shader doesn't change glTexEnv so much that also other
conditions can lead to GL_INVALID_OPERATION there should be some problems in
the calling function of texture_activate_dimensions.
Any way of outputting the call stack from texture_activate_dimensions?
Cheers,
Tobias

Hit bug 9014 - MS Office 2007 Home and Student edition installer crashes

Then it'll pretend to actually start, but fail with a generic 'There was a

I checked the AppDB, tried the suggestions there (winetricks msxml3 dotnet20

During the MSI install of Opera 9.27, when you choose Custom install and try to
change default location, application crashes.
Reproduction:
1. Download Opera 9.27 from
http://www.opera.com/download/index.dml?opsys=Windows&lng=en&ver=9.27&platf…
2. Run installer: wine Opera_9.27_Eng_Setup.exe
3. Go through InstallShield Wizard: Start Setup -> I Accept -> select Custom ->
Next
4. click Change - crash occurs:
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x004d00fa at address 0x4d00ed
(thread 0021), starting debugger...
Sometimes the crash in 4. does not happen, then do the following:
5. Select folder, click Next -> click Back -> click Change again - crash
If you don't change default location, application installs OK and works.

Certain servers seem to crash Counter Strike: Source.
When I join I get to where the servers MOTD would usually appear. I get an egg
timer thing next to the mouse pointer, nothing shows up in the text box, and
then between 10 and 30 seconds later the game just exits back to steam.
Back Trace is attached.
This is reproducible for me every time I attempt to join one server in
particular, but most servers work fine.
hl2.exe is running with wine set to windows 98 to avoid another bug.

Composite screenshot showing graphical regression vs. previous WINE build
Certain textures and 2D overlays are missing their usual bilinear filtering in
Age Of Mythlogy (and probably in other titles using the Warcraft III engine).
This makes them look ugly and jagged next to textures that are correctly
filtered. Attached is a screenshot contrasting the previous behavior in WINE
0.9.5.x (left) and the current behavior in WINE 1.0rc1 (right) when rendering
the same scene. You can see the small rock textures in 0.9.5.9 (left) are
smoothed with bilinear filtering, as is the black fog of war. In 1.0rc1
(right), the fog of war is checkered and unattractive in appearance.

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

ReportedBy: rm.riches(a)verizon.net
Personal Ancestral File (PAF) 5 hits an unhandled page fault while closing the
help viewer if the viewer has navigated to around 10 topics or places in the
help documentation. The symptoms associated with this report have been visible
since at least Wine version 0.9.37 or 0.9.39. With some Wine versions it is
more (or less) difficult to reproduce the symptoms. Being as PAF's help viewer
didn't work at all until Wine version 0.9.32 and didn't work well until Wine
version 0.9.39, doing a git regression run would probably not be feasible.
To demonstrate the symptoms with Wine version 0.9.50, here's what I did:
1) Bring up PAF on a previously-created empty file (using the File->New
function). Also, install Wine Gecko.
2) Click on the yellow question mark in the toolbar.
3) Click on the first 10 topics (starting with "Introduction") in sequence,
letting the text paint each time.
4) Use the X/Linux window manager's menu to close the help window.
I plan to attach the log file from a run with environment variable WINEDEBUG
set to a value of "+mshtml,+shdocvw,+urlmon,+htmlhelp" in case that sheds light
on the problem.

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: j.zolotarjov(a)gmail.com
I'll describe all my movements - step by step.
1. I installed latest (at the moment) wine-0.9.49 from sources on Fedora8.
2. I installed my application of interest - Altium Designer 6.7
3. Tried to run it wihtout luck.
4. Found in appDB some hints and installed using winetricks dcom98, fakeie6,
mdac28, corefonts, tahoma, cc580. All installations went well.
5. I tried to run Altium Designer again and it started, but crashed when trying
to open any file.
6. AppDB tells, that it was tested with wine-0.9.35. I decided to try it.
7. Uninstalled wine-0.9.49 and installed wine-0.9.35 from sources.
8. I did not change drive_c as it was installed previously with 0.9.49. Now
tried to run Altium Designer. And oh wonder! I can use it wihout any visible
problems.
9. I decided to find out - which version of wine caused the problem. I tried
one by one all versions from 0.9.35 to 0.9.43. Works just fine, except some
minor problems, which I can live with. The version, which causes problem is
0.9.44. All subsequent versions also have this problem.
Now to the description of behavior.
1. Starting the application like that wine "c:\Program Files\Altium Designer
6\DXP.exe"
2. I see splash screen and log of different components loading on it.
3. Application windows is opening and I can select to open or create new file.
4. On whatever type of file, this operation causes applcation to freese for 20
seconds, then I see in the wine log endless list of
err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)
err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)
err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)
err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)
err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)
err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)
err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)
err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)
This continues for 3-4 minutes.
After that I see in the wine log following:
And this all ends with at this point.
5. I tried to look at the sources, but as I am very new to wine, I could only
get to the source of this endless CombineRgn errors. It comes from
/dlls/gdi32/region.c file. Particularly function CombineRgn makes it. I could
not find a function, which calls this function.
This behavior is with all versions of wine from 0.9.44 to 0.9.49.
So at this point, I ask community to help solve this bug in wine.

I'n not sure if he meant only mac, or both mac/linux (cider/cedega) clients
though.
Michael Jenkins reported above that issue isn't applicable to cedega-wrapped
client, could anybody confirm that?

I had the problem of the invisible window and a high CCU load when starting
dreamweaver. By this text passage (in the description) I found out that I had
to delete the drive assembly allocation for drive z.
Then it works fine.
"(though you have to hit Enter to get an invisible
dialog box to go away; that's the infamous z-order problem)"
I hope that it is possible to help others with the same problem.
For me it was hard to find the solution.

hi Vitality, haarp ...
it seemed that the registry key workaraound was an elegant and simply temporary
solution, BUT:
1. the specified registry key DOES NOT EXIST - so i had toi create it manually
2. i assumed "MouseWarpOverride" is a string value - i created this also
3. PROBLEM NOT SOLVED !
(i am using PlayOnLinux for Project IGI)
so, Project IGI still escapes the cursors, even with the above registry edits
did i do smthing wrong? or is there smthing more i should do? maybe i should
not use PlayOnLinux ...
thanx a bunch

Not sure if it uses the same "scroll to bottom and click accept" mechanic as

basically stops me from installing the game.
Scroll to the bottom as required to accept, the accept button is still grayed.

I think it more likely that it was a compiler update that originally triggered
this bug and not a Wine update at all. When starting the exe,
__wine_kernel_init() calls wine_switch_to_stack() which in turn calls
start_process() on the process' own stack. wine_switch_to_stack() is an
assembly function and on i386 always calls the function passed to it with the
same stack alignment (mod 16 bytes), but start_process() is written in C and
uses exception handling, so it's at the mercy of the compiler.
As an experiment, I fudged the stack alignment in wine_switch_to_stack() and
got the unpatched doom3.exe to run that way. Of course, that isn't a real
solution because start_process() is still in between, so a compiler upgrade or
change to start_process() could still break the alignment again. To fix the
bug, you'd have to wrap the entry point in the Windows executable with a little
piece of assembly that fudged the stack alignment to what it was expecting.

May I suggest an improvement for the workaround-regedit-setting? Add the option
'force-box' that works like Attachment 11303 and only warps when the mouse is
about to leave the box.
The current 'force' works fine for Crysis in-game, but breaks in the menus
because the pointer is forced to the middle at all times.

Investigated using winedbg under Wine 1.1.2 on Ubuntu 8.04.
There is a bug here, but not in Wine ... it is a bug in the Doom 3 executable
itself. The game is trying to allocate space on the stack for a
dynamically-sized array, padded to be a multiple of 16 bytes and to start on a
16-byte boundary in memory. Unfortunately it gets the calculation of how much
padding it needs a bit wrong. If the stack pointer at a particular point in the
code happens to equal 4 modulo 16, the function will overwrite one of its saved
registers and the program will crash.
This appears to happen at a couple of places in the code. I was able to patch
out the offending instructions with a hex editor to give it a bit of extra
padding. The demo thus patched ran perfectly happily and I could play the game.
(It's sort of grey.)
I don't know what change in Wine caused this bug to manifest. I tried to run a
regression test, but regressing much past about 0.9.50 on a modern Linux distro
is rich in fail, and I gave up. I imagine that a change in the startup code
caused the stack to be set up slightly differently. It might be worth padding
the stack on startup to match Windows' alignment, or even making stack
alignment an option in case different Windows versions differ, and to see if
other programs have similar bugs.

It doesn't cause anything internally, the function that this message originates
from is the Win16 LocalAlloc, when you see this message it returns 0 which is
normal for failure and there is no observable fault with the program.
Looking at the logs this program calls LocalAlloc over 2000 times trying to
allocate ffa4 bytes, so it looks completely normal that at some point
LocalAlloc should stop allocating memory if the program is intentionally not
freeing any.
Looks invalid to me.

I have wordweb 5 free edition installed using wine on Ubuntu 8.04. I have put
it in system startup apps under Gnome sessions settings. However when the first
time system gets boots up its icons appears in separate window "Wine System
Tray". If I logout and logs backs in it comes it in normal position in along
with other icons in system tray of Gnome.

Minimap overlapped by graphics from external applications.
Garbage apeearing on maps is taken from other applications aswell (e.g. see
attaches screenshot - i was reading some guides (Epiphany browser with gecko
backend) at cisco website and then decided to launch eve - minimap is
overlapped with that page.
I don't know specifics, but to me it seems to be some memory management related
problems.

Please fix this problem. It provides very necessary feature. Using comctl32.dll
save the situation with using Watchtower Library 2007 but it is not the way. I
am anticipating for a new version of wine only because if solving this bug.

Correct, you just need to associate the "jpegfile" type with a program that can
open jpegs. For instance, install gecko, then run: wine regedit 4122.reg, where
4122.reg is this attachment.

Summary: Fonts in apps are anti-aliased/hinted in contrast to

Product: Wine

Created an attachment (id=15471)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=15471)
Figure to illustrate the difference in linux native and wine programs fonts
MS truetype fonts are installed for OpenSUSE11, and the system is set according
to http://en.opensuse.org/Optimal_Use_of_Fonts_on_SuSE, so anti-aliasing is
disabled for font size under 13, the bytecode interpreter threshold is set to
18 points, hinting disabled.
The settings are working seamlessly for native Linux programs, the fonts are
sharp. However in windows applications (about 20 tested so far) the fonts are
rendered hinted/anti-aliased regardless of their size and type. Smaller fonts
are simply blurry, not even polished. This is the case with and without fonts
installed using winetricks.
See attached figure: On the left side there is a Krusader screenshot using
Tahoma 8px bold. On the right side the same with Total Commander under Wine
using the same Tahoma 8px bold fonts. The difference is clearly visible without
magnifying.
Expected behavior: the fonts should be sharp as the system wide font settings
define. Wine should simply follow system settings.

When activating camera look in dual-monitor mode (usually by holding the
right-button down to free-look around the screen), City of Heroes does not
catch the mouse in its place.
Instead, it will move to the secondary monitor, causing the camera to swing
wildly around and get stuck facing straight up.
Note that the border does not prevent mouse from moving monitors otherwise,
however the game should not allow the mouse to leave the border when a button
is activated (at least, it doesn't in Windows or Cedega).

installed programs, Word and Excel show an error message (mostly hidden by the
splash screen) the first time they are started, but start up normally
thereafter. Powerpoint starts up fine without any error messages. Access still
gives the message about not having a valid license.
I also tried with oleaut32 set to builtin only, and it made no difference.

Could you check if this app is still buggy on the latest Wine? The child window
bug should be over though not all display drivers support it well yet. It
should work fine on Nvidia.
