FROM THE FAQ IN APPDB:
You must change some options in eqclient.ini in order to run the game properly.
If a setting is missing, like TextureCache, just enter it into the appropriate
section. If you use the default file, VertexShaders are already TRUE, but so is
TextureCache which needs to be FALSE.
- If your first toon on char select is a Drakkin, the animation is broken
except for the primary and secondary weapons/shield move. If you select any
other character at char select, the game crashes. (TextureCache)
[Defaults]
VertexShaders=TRUE
TextureCache=FALSE

> Sorry, what does this have to do with flash, again?
This has nothing to do with flash.
VSFilter is a plugin for AviSynth and this bug may affect any application able
to connect to AviSynth (x264, VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod, Flash Pro 8...).
> Also, rather than a canned wine installation, can you
> list the steps on needs to follow to arrive at that installation?
Ok.
Applications are available there:
1. VirtualDub: http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/
(or VirtualDubMod:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=65889)
2. AviSynth (stable version is 2.5.7):
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57023
3. VSFilter:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57023
Installation:
1. Install VirtualDub(Mod) and AviSynth.
2. vsfilter_20051125.7z contains a dll in "Release Unicode": extract the dll in
the plugin folder of AviSynth (c:/Program Files/AviSynth 2.5/plugins).
Example of video:
$ cat 5946.avs
BlankClip(50, 640, 480, fps=25).TextSub("5946.srt")
$ cat 5946.srt
1
00:00:00,0 --> 00:00:01,0
[Bug 5946]
2
00:00:01,0 --> 00:00:02,0
text rendering using vsfilter doesn't properly display

The bug is still there in Wine 1.0 (official Debian package).
The description is the same as for Wine 0.9.48 so you can read my previous
comment.
You can download a test case at http://jm.xdns.eu/~jm/pub/wine-bug5946.tar.bz2
(3.6M)
This is a Wine instance containing VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2 build 2542, AviSynth
2.5.7, VSFilter 2.37:
1. launch c:/Program Files/VirtualDubMod/VirtualDubMod.exe
2. open c:/5946.avs

Yes, directories are only added as the app opens them. We can't do a recursive
add automatically, that's way too expensive, especially in the server.

2nd version of demo program showing how wine cheats
This is a guess, but:
Wine's implementation of change notification
seems to have taken a gamble. If you insert a
dir /s
after calling ReadDirectoryChanges the first time,
it works. Why? Because server/change.c probably bets
that the app would do a recursive scan of the
watched directories after issuing the first ReadDirectoryChanges,
and piggybacks on that scan to do all the needed
inotify_add_watches.
The fix is probably for Wine to do its own
darned recursive scan, hang the overhead.
Alternately, affected apps (like Picasa) could make sure they
start their recursive scans *after* calling ReadDirectoryChanges.

(The line in the previous comment should have had an -r in it; without the -r,
it isn't recursive. With the -r, it monitors the whole tree.)

FWIW,
inotifywait -m .wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/dank/My\ Documents
works as expected, so it's not a kernel bug...

I run the client.
I press "New Profile".
A window pops up, letting me define connection details.
In the wine terminal, I get:
fixme:ras:RasEnumDevicesA ((nil),0x33ae10,0x33ae08),stub!
fixme:ras:RasEnumDevicesA (0x751740,0x33ae10,0x33ae08),stub!
I fill in some "Description".
I press the first octet of the IP address field.
I get in the terminal:
err:ipaddress:IPADDRESS_GetPartIndex We subclassed the wrong window!
(hwnd=0x10060)
I uncheck "Use Default Port Number".
I get:
err:ipaddress:IPADDRESS_GetPartIndex We subclassed the wrong window!
(hwnd=0x1006e)
I fill in the port number and press OK. The popup closes.
I Right-click the new profile and select "New Connection".
Two windows pop-up: "Connection Status" and "Login".
In the wine terminal:
fixme:toolhelp:CreateToolhelp32Snapshot Unimplemented: heap list snapshot
fixme:toolhelp:Heap32ListFirst : stub
In "Login", I select "remember nothing", fill in "User Name", "Password", and
press OK.
The login popup closes, then the "connection status" popup closes, but focus
does not return to the main raritan window.
Then, the first mouse click anywhere on this window does nothing, and any
further clicks emit a beep. Nothing further is output to the wine terminal.
If I press there ^C, it closes cleanly the window and returns to the prompt
without any more output.
On a next run, it does remember the profile details, and behaves the same -
after the login window closes it's stuck, beeps on all mouse clicks except the
first.
I also tried running it in winedbg, and pressed ^C in this blocked state, and
'bt'. Output was:

I know almost nothing about wine, please direct me to some howto on further
debugging or tell me what to try. It seems to me it has some problem showing or
closing some popup or something like that, but I do not see anything else
happening.

Ignore comment #13, that was done with My Documents replaced
with a real directory, and maybe I screwed something up.
wine seems to do an inotify_add_watch *every* time ReadDirectoryChanges
is called, which seems excessive but maybe harmless.

The attached tiny c program seems to reproduce the problem.
Compile with
i586-mingw32msvc-gcc dirchanges.c
Monitor changes in your home directory with
wine a.exe "c:\\windows\\profiles\\$LOGNAME\\My Documents"
(You might want to quit firefox, it modifies ~/.xsessions
too often.)
Then play around with making changes in your home directory
and its subdirectories; only changes in the top level
of your home directory will be noticed!

okay i rechecked with 1.1.0 yesterday and it seems to work much better.
i'm haing crashes when using git mesa, and messed up screen on current fglrx
(which seems to be common for various 3d apps). but i can see that the game
works properly and the 3d drivers are now an issue, not wine.
i'll mark that one as invalid.

I get this as well with Wine 1.1.1. I'm running on Arch Linux x86_64 and have a
partially multilib system. Wine repeats this error multiple times over the
course of four or five minutes and then crashes with a segmentation fault. I
have the Mozilla control installed and enabled properly, so that's not my
issue.
Output of wine Steam.exe has been attached.

RealMyst mentioned in the bug's URL, available nowadays from
http://files.filefront.com/realMYST+Test/;12545;/fileinfo.html , works with
Wine 1.0.0.
As I think this bug was supposed to mainly handle SafeDisc 1.0, and it should
be working nowadays, this bug should be closed and new ones filed (or
duplicates reopened) for specific SafeDisc version / other similar programs.

The commands
strace -f -o strace.log wine picasa2.exe
egrep 'inotify|open.*My Documents/" strace.log
seem to show that an inotify watch is only added for the top-level directory;
8750 open("/home/demouser/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/profiles/demouser/My
Documents/", O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_LARGEFILE) = 98
...
8750 inotify_init() = 113
8750 inotify_add_watch(113, "/proc/self/fd/98",
IN_MODIFY|IN_ATTRIB|IN_MOVED_FROM|IN_MOVED_TO|IN_CREATE|IN_DELETE|IN_DELETE_SELF)
= 1
8750 inotify_rm_watch(113, 1) = 0
Since it contained multiple subdirectories, wine should
have converted the first ReadDirectoryChanges() call into
a series of inotify_add_watch() calls, one for each subdirectory.
I looked at server/change.c, and while it talks about recursive
watches, I don't see read_directory_changes actually doing
a tree walk of subdirectories...?

After the patch on the 17th models are gone again, the only models that show
are bracers, weapons, and head gear (some). I am using the modified
d3dx9_30.dll, and everything was working great until that dang patch. Ubuntu
7.10, Wine 1.0 (that is the latest prepackage for my distro (i hate compiling,
i have not had great luck in the past with compiling things). Nvidia card and
drivers, what else, Amd 64 x2, so i was having the problem with models freezing
and did not get a chance to use the suggested fix, not having seen it until i
was looking for a solution to this latest problem. Hope someone can give me a
hand with this.

4. note the large image is properly displayed

I have used Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance, one of the programs apparently affected
by this bug. The previously-mentioned symptoms (the game ceasing to work when
you 'alt-tab' out of them and the game appearing as 'Not responding' in the
Task Manager) occur when I use X-Wing Alliance on old Windows 95 and Windows 98
computers with DirectX 6.

Others do, msxml3 errors and probably .Net 2.0. But there is another bug report

Both Age of Wonders II "The Wizards Throne, and Age of Wonders II "Shadow

I have not been able to get them working using the standard DirectPlayGames

I did a little more testing, and need to qualify my earlier post (sorry). My
previous test was for a custom install; first I installed Word, Excel, and
Powerpoint, then I ran the installer again, adding Access. The result was as I
reported: Word, Excel, & Powerpoint work fine, Access gives the error message
about no license. I have since tried selecting a "Typical" install, and none
of the programs install properly under that option.

I tested it on 1.1.1, openSUSE 10.3, clean wineprefix, default Wine settings.
Word, Excel, and Powerpoint install fine and all start up without error
messages.
If Access is included in the install, the installer gives the error message
about being unable to register accwiz.dll. Trying to start Access gives the
popup error message "Microsoft Access can't start because there is no license
for it on this machine", but there are no messages whatsoever in the console.

I've encountered a CS 1.6 freeze on my toshiba satellite which uses a radeon
x1200 with the latest linux drivers. It never locked up on my other computer
which has a nvdia 6800. Also the lockup wasn't just an average program lockup,
it locked up the entire computer to the point where it wasn't even responding
when I pressed caps lock. I had to reset the machine with the power button.

I have some software installed in Windows and in Linux through wine, and the
software needs to connect to COM1-COM4. I'm using a Serial to USB adapter to
attach my device (a Sick LMS291 LIDAR module, if that helps) to my laptop. In
Windows, the adapter gets recognized as COM3, and I put that into the software
that came with the module, and it runs fine. At first when I used the software
in Linux through wine, it didn't recognize the serial to USB adapter, but after
doing the following:
ln -s /dev/ttyUSB0 ~/.wine/dosdevices/com4
the software recognized COM4 and let me use the port. However, the data (which
is constantly streaming) is much more choppy than in Windows, and I frequently
have to hit "reconnect" to reestablish the data communication. I've searched a
lot for a way to fix this, but I couldn't find anything, so I wanted to see if
it is a bug or if I'm just not configuring something properly.
I'm using wine-1.1.1 in Ubuntu 8.04.

Notice the missing redraw elements!
I have just found out where are those damned gui elements gone... The statement
is false about wine doesnt redraw those gui backgrounds, it draws outside of
the 640X480 screen... I found this accidently when my starcraft was started
with fullscreen, but when battle net was working in the background, I was
switched my screen resolution to 1280*1024 to use pidgin to talk to my friends.
I was surprised about the missing gui elements, they were drawn outside of
starcraft, and there every missing elements were working properly exept, they
are not placed where they should. I hope this information will help devs to fix
this issue, but im curious about is me the first person who modificed the
resolution durend the gameplay?

Then this bug got fixed. If this message is displayed under Wine even when the
CD-ROM is in the drive, and it there is no such message under Windows, then
this could be the subject of another bug report. However, if I understand
correctly that one also gets such a messages NT/2k/XP and it works only under
Windows 9x then it's possible it uses a Win9x VxD driver for copy protection
and it may be hard to make it work under Wine.

It is the same behavior as on Windows 2000. The game itself will only run on
Win9x though, and I don't have a setup to test that at the moment.

NM that... cleared everything (i.e. wineserver -k) and was able to fix the

Hosting a game in WarCraft 3 doesn't work anymore. The port is opened, but for
some reason, nobody can join. It's no firewall issue etc., as it works when
using Cedega. This worked in the past. I'm sorry, but I don't know which
version broke this as I haven't played WC3 in a while, but this definitely
worked in the past, I hosted games a lot.

It installs and starts with wine, with some problems.
The update functionality however fails with the cryptic message "Externe

Since this has stumped me and several people in mailing lists, I'm submitting
it here for everyone to see.

Hi
I just installed Warcraft III on my Compaq Presario C700 laptop (using Ubuntu
Hardy Heron).
This laptop has:
- Intel(R) Celeron(R) M CPU 530 @ 1.73GHz
- Intel(R) 965GM 4.1.3002
But I got a bug:
when I left-click somewhere on the screen, the game flashes and shows another
previous image for a fraction of second. This previous image is an object that
appeared before. Most time it is a dialog asking for CD or the game's splash
screen.

Well, I do not think it can be considered "fixed", as the title of the bug
("running Raritan's RemoteClient.exe fails") still stands (it fails), but I do
realize that there are very few users of this program, and unless one of them
invests time in making it work, that won't happen. If (when?) I decide I want
to work on fixing it, I'll probably open it again (hopefully with a patch :-)
).

report with much excitement but unfortunately nothing here helped me any closer
to a working solution.
Here are my specs.
Distribution: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Wine: wine-1.1.1 (1.1.1~winehq0~ubuntu~8.04-0ubuntu1)
TomTom Home: latest executable online (2.3)
Kernel: 2.6.24-19-generic
I've installed TomTom Home as follows.
1. $ rm -rf ~/.wine ; wineprefixcreate
2. Attached TomTom and let linux mount it
3. $ winecfg (auto config devices)
4. Tested device is accessible via winefile && after device power cycle
5. Installed vcredist_x86.exe (MSVCR80.dll)
6. Installed TomTom Home via winefile from the TomTom Device (it is downloading
latest online)
TomTom home application do not detect the device no matter if I start it with
device attached or not, I noticed the "device" tap in the application is with
gray cursive font as if it never seen the device before, could indicate what
Hans implies, however when importing the .reg files (had to convert the line
braks to get it working without it complaining) did not help in my case.
The dump from "WINEDEBUG=+relay,+setupapi wine TomTomHOME.exe 2>
~/Desktop/wine-tomtom.out" is rather large ~1GB, is there a segment or any way
to minimize it (regexp pattern?)?
If you really need it all let me know and I will make it available online.
Is anything else I can do to aid in the resolution of this bug?
-Lennart

My workaround for that was to use Ctrl-Alt-+ and Ctrl-Alt-- to change the X
resolution, then moving the mouse to line the viewport up with the window.
It's not very fun, as it involves careful alignment, but at least it gives a
type of fullscreen.

On 1.1.1, using a fresh install on a new profile, I still get the "Invalid
Mode" dialog box, but rather than crashing the game continues, playing various
company logo videos. It appears normal until it gets to the main menu, where
none of the options are displayed, only the background, and the game becomes
unresponsive. At that point I have to switch to the console and kill it to get
back to the desktop (ps lists the process as "defunct").

I'm going to mark it fixed then, since it was fixed for Nvidia and ATI. You
might file a bug with your distro about the drivers, or with X...

With latest git, (./configure && make && make install), hardiskvolume1 hack

Dan, how did you get past that? Did it just automagically start working at some

Yep, I can confirm this too, the blizzard 1.22 patch has solved some problem
with their net code in battle.net which means also improved pings for many
people.
Seems like this bug was related to it. For me wine 1.0 works fine.

I understood. And in the vbv case it's almost impossible to do any debugation
because all binary files there are striped debug symbols.
At http://200.183.118.67/kitwvbv200.zip have the brazilian version of vbv. All
exe files works only as cgi-bin in Apache using binfmt_misc kernel module to
associate windows binary files as linux native executables.

I don't I'm afraid - though it does work (pretty much) on an ATI X700 card.
Looks like it might be to do with the intel card / hardware then.
I thought that the intel drivers were supposed to be pretty good now that

When I try to install any software, installer asks if should it create an icon

It shouldn't create the lnk file on the desktop - it should just place the
linux shortcut on the desktop (in the place where the lnk file is placed).

wine-1.1.1 Tomb Raider Level Editor crash log
I've seen that there were some changes in wined3d, so have checked it on wine
1.1.1.
Now TRLE even won't start up, it just shows initial picture with progress bar
at the very start and crashes. I am not sure, but this regression could have
appeared in 1.1.0.

Back to the main topic: the fix to dinput seems to have fixed the mouse problem
in D3D mode, but in software-rendered mode, it is still stuck in the center as
of 1.1.1.

I think it may be a different issue, as the unexpected termination of
services.exe it's not because of the main bug of this report, more likely a new
bug introduced in 0.9.59...

Right-clicking in Wrye Bash will bring up a context menu for a fraction of a

it is related to wxWindows or Python (which Wrye Bash uses). Running from a

i'm wrong... not all minimaps. All minimaps i've tested before were ones of
systems located in the same constellation, but when i moved out of it and took
mission - its minimap was corrupted. So, it seems, that hrd toggling 'fixes'
bitmap stored somewhere in the memory, and then it's loaded correctly (others
that were not 'fixed' are still shown as garbage).

Summary: Yamaha PM5D editor MSI install
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.0
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: msi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: reuben.m(a)gmail.com
This is yet another msi problem. I'm 95% sure this program would run quite
easily if I could just get past all the msi install crap.
For a bit of background, the Yamaha PM5D is a digital audio console. Very big,
and expensive. It's the kind of mixing console used in large concerts, music
festival, events where guys run around with those silly "All Access" passes.
Anyway, you can create programs on the computer to save as a file and load
later on the actual console. I would like to run this on Linux, but I can't get
past the msi problems.
The software is free to download.
The Studio Manager (v2.1.7) does install and run. It's needs to be installed
before the editor.
http://www.yamahaproaudio.com/downloads/firm_soft/smv2/smv2.html
The editor (v2.2.2) gets hung up on the msi part of the install though. Output
from the console reads:
fixme:advapi:LookupAccountNameW (null) L"root" (nil) 0x32f88c (nil) 0x32f890
0x32f884 - stub
fixme:advapi:LookupAccountNameW (null) L"root" 0x150270 0x32f88c 0x1501f8
0x32f890 0x32f884 - stub
err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"ISVerifyScriptingRuntime"
returned 1603
This package can be found here:
http://www.yamahaproaudio.com/downloads/firm_soft/pm5d/pm5dv2_edt.html
If you get that editor to install, you might want to test and make sure the
editors for the M7CL and LS9 consoles install as well. (I use all of them)

Here' workaround:
1) Open window with any map (mission description)
2) Toggle HDR on/off
Now you should get all mini-maps in mission descriptions rendered correctly
(until next client restart).
This trick makes solar system browser maps render correctly too, but until you
refresh its contents (e.g. choose another solar system).

I've just sent patches that I missed previously. They fix this bug. Now

If there hasn't been a bug filed for it yet, please do so.

Screenshot of error message
Installed lotro book 13 under a fresh ubuntu 8.04 installation, with wine
1.0rc3 on a Dell Inspiron 8500 with a Radeon 9000 video card. Used the linux
gui launcher and could connect to account. The game itself fails to load and
gives a 122 error code - see attached screenshot.
No changes were made to the default install until the game would not load.
Then I tried setting the registry settings recommended for the game, same error
received. Installed DirectX9, same error received. Game worked well under
winxp on the same laptop.
