When you attack a car (buses, automobiles, tanks, even the heli works!) with a
chainsaw and rip some of his parts (doors preferred), strange things happen to
the texture of the car and all cars around you. The texture bug goes away only
if you change into a hotel etc.; you just need to use a teleporter.

riched32: Added class style to process double click events
I just happened to have fixed this before noticing this bug report. It is
actually a riched32.dll issue (i.e. Richedit Version 1.0). All that was needed
was to add the class style CS_DBLCLKS to riched32.dll in order to have it
receive double click events.
The patch has already been sent to wine-patches, but it still needs to be
accepted into the git tree before this bug is resolved.

Summary: wine does not start at all on my clean linux/x86 laptop
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.0
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sick_soul(a)yahoo.it
Since many wine versions, wine does not run at all on my
amilo slackware linux laptop (x86-32bit) anymore.
On another desktop machine (another x86-32 Slackware box,
but very different hardware), it works.
After installing wine (on a clean machine, no ~/.wine at all),
the first time wine is launched (in this case for winecfg), it says:
"wine: created the configuration directory '/home/claudio/.wine'
Could not load Mozilla. HTML rendering will be disabled."
and then it just blocks there. After a very long time I get:
"err:module:attach_process_dlls "winspool.drv" failed to initialize, aborting
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for
L"C:\\windows\\system32\\winecfg.exe" failed, status c000013a"
and I am at a prompt again. Meanwhile, the wine processes still live,
and need to be killed manually
(wineserver, wineboot.exe, sevices.exe, explorer.exe).
I thought it would be a good idea to inform you that at least on
this machine, wine-1.0.0 does not start at all.
I noticed a somewhat similar bug report, which might or might not
be related (at least the effects seem similar), but it's on NetBSD:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2366
If you want some more information, I can be very responsive until
at least the end of the week.

Hello,
a) "work-around" for high CPU usage
just open "detail" window of a file in the download order list and let it open.
CPU usage will drop. (Same tip above like with "options menu")
b) second "work-around" if CPU usage is very high
Let emule sort the upload/download slots (- lower window if view is split).
Press _every_ column to find the column which let emule permanently and
incredible fast sorting the list.

full log
When you launch WoW in opengl mode (suse 2.6.22.17-0.1-default x86-64), wine
exits with error "libxcb: WARNING! Program tries to lock an already locked
connection".
This happens if you disable (yes, disable) windows translucency (Personal
Settings -> Desktop -> Window Behaviour). If you enable translucency (default
setting) and reboot, WoW/wine works correctly.
This issue doesn't happen if you disable translucency but activate
compiz-fusion.

Does this still fail in 1.0? It seems like later versions of Rosetta install
according to AppDB.

Summary: Native Linux applications write noise to disk when Wine
is running
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.54.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: e.rodola(a)gmail.com
When I run some application with Wine (it happens with ALL the applications I
launched, e.g. Goldwave, Photoshop, DXDiag, WinRAR, CDex, ...) and then launch
some Linux application (Gimp, OpenOffice, custom code, ...), all the disk
writing attempts result in noise being written to disk.
Wine does not print any warnings or errors, and neither do the affected
programs. The writing ends with success, but when I try to open the file, all I
get is random bytes. If I quit wine and then re-run the Linux apps, the
produced files look just OK.
I run Wine on Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty), on a i386 system with 1GB RAM DDR2, the
filesystem is ext3. RAM is not broken (I did many memtests), filesystem is not
broken, I have plenty of hard disk space and plenty of free RAM when running
the applications.

Regression Test Result
When attempting to play this game (even in an emulated Desktop window), the
game presents me with a black screen, and has done so since version 0.9.57.
After a regression test between versions 0.9.56 and 0.9.57, I isolated the
commit that caused it.
As it turns out, the bug started when winealsa switched from the "default:0"
notation to "default", in order to allow pulseaudio to function.
'Lo and behold, I turned off pulseaudio, and the game works. However, some more
oddities arise. The game's volume doesn't respond to changes in volume with the
keyboard hotkeys, and the volume decreases only when the OSS volume is changed.
This puzzles me, as my settings are clearly set to ALSA.
I have tested it with and without directsound driver emulation, and the result
is the same.
I attached the output of Git from the regression test and CC'd the author of
the patch.

incorrectly for some reason. The mouse moves slower in the game than the real
cursor does. This wouldnt be so annoying if it wasnt for the fact that the
mouse gets stuck when it reaches the screen edges.
Getting this bug fixed would be interesting, because then this game would get a
platinum score. Everything else is perfect.

John, he said his "original problem" still exists with 1.0. The version should

Can you attach flash_wintab.log that results from this command to this bug?
To give a fuller log can you run this command and then use the program to the
point where you would be drawing utilizing pressure (if it were working).
WINEDEBUG="+wintab32" wine /path/to/flash.exe &> flash_wintab.log
I know that you have pasted parts of logs in the past and are probably already
doing the above but just so there is no confusion as to what activity the log
is made from.
Thanks.

Well, I don't know why this was closed, as the original program that I had the
problem with (Flash) is still not working, despite the fact that the other ones
(Photoshop CS2 and OpenCanvas) are working perfectly. Like my last post
mentioned, the option for tablet sensitivity comes up, but the actual drawing
is not. This is with Wine 1.0.
Same messages still appear in a wintab debug:

In Audiosurf, when using the mouse it often becomes imposable to move the car
to the side of the track. The only workaround is to push the car up against the
other side of the track.
It seems like the game is not recognising the true position of the mouse. When
the mouse hits the side of the screen, the game thinks it is still a distance
from the side.
This may be a related to Bug 6971 but am unsure.
Note: this should be reproducible with the Audiosurf demo that is available on
steam.

Sometime in the last month, Wine stopped being
able to run the Photoshop CS2 tryout properly.
It no longer tries to activate, and on the second
run, it says it cannot continue due to a hardware failure.
The error
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x1502750 "?" wait timed out in
thread 004c, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec)
pops up on the console during the first run; I wonder if the
thread in charge of activation is deadlocking.
A workaround noted in the appdb is
$ cd ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/*/"Application
Data/Adobe/Photoshop/9.0/Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings"
$ rm -rf Adobe\ Photoshop\ CS2\ Prefs.psp
This resets you to pre-first-run state so you can try again,
which could be handy for git bisect, but it's not so great
for end users.

However, when I tried to load the game in the PlayOnLinux debugger with this

> Do you still experience this problem?
It's hard to tell. Currently this bug is blocked by double-regression (first
regression was incorrect real-time reflection and second was no reflection at
all so shiny reflective KITT is now just *completely* black at Super detail
level).
Long time ago I tried to do a regression test but didn't finished it (it was
too boring on my old (1750 MHz) one-core PC). Now when I have 3.4 GHz quad-core
processor I probably will try again. For now I just reopen this bug but note
that it is impossible to say anything about its current status as long as
mentioned above double-regression blocking it. I will fill separate bug report
for it soon (when I find time to do the regression test).
> BTW: The url you gave is not good... I did find the demo still, but I don't
> know whether it's the same version and I'm not on a 64-bit comp.
Please change URL field to working link then. Exact version isn't relevant as
long as real-time reflections are turned on (and this is what Super level of
detail is doing). Thanks.
BTW, I'm using 32-bit Wine with 32-bit libraries (all dependencies are
satisfied), so the fact that I'm using 64-bit version of OS is irrelevant in
this case.

Adds unformatted text.
This patch adds very simple code to output text with TxDraw and measure it's
size using TxGetNaturalSize.
This is sufficient to get a bare bones working version of Google Talk.
Setting the default character formatting still needs to be done and I'm working
on that now.
It is a long way from actually rendering richtext, but at least you can see
something when loading google talk.
I've combined the old patch (which defines a variable where the current text is
stored) into this patch. They need to be together.
The patch applies to git at commit dd01d39f3b8.

It's been ages since I stopped using sawfish and focus follows mouse. Also I
rarely use Wine these days. However, since you asked, I installed sawfish on my
Ubuntu Hardy and set it to the "enter-exit" behavior. I then installed Office
2000 in a fresh .wine directory. The result:
Problem remains for Word 2000 and Excel 2000
I didn't test the other office programs, but other programs (e.g. winmine and
notepad from a Windows XP installation) do not show the problem. The problem
still only appears for enter-exit and not enter-only.
I tested this using wine 1.0.0-1ubuntu2~hardy1 from hardy-backports.
wine --version says "wine-1.0"
Btw, the Office 2000 programs don't work very well: I can't type anything in
them.

I don't know how to add this information to the bug, but this is caused by the
same reason as bugs 1202 and 8232 (1202: d3drm.dll not existing/only a stub;
8232 Arx Fatalis fails to start).
Basically, Warhammer: Dark Omen calls D3DCreateDevice indirectly through
D3DRM.DLL, which isn't implemented. We need to raise awareness of other games
using this .dll to speed up the implementation and introduction of it into
Wine.

SWT win32 snippets to show Java code expecting webbrowser IDispatch in
completion handlers
Hello,
it seems the well known Eclipse IDE (win32) suffers from same problem.
If Eclipse 3.x opens the workspace for the first time, an embedded browser
window is about to be displayed.
It crashes in completion handlers due to wrong IDispatch supplied.
Same happens if you select "Help" -> "Help Contents".

I'm sure this also applies to many apps which use IDispatch in completion

Jacek, can you acknowledge this issue and send in a fix.

Summary: SimCity for Windows: installer says "Unable to start DDE
communication with Program Manager."
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.0
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
Hi,
(This is the original SimCity for Windows, version 1.1. The program works under
Windows 3.1.)
The installer works okay, until it tries to add Program Manager icons. The
Program Manager window appears, and a dialog box with the text "Unable to start
DDE communication with Program Manager." is shown.
There are Abort, Retry and Ignore buttons. If you choose Retry or Ignore,
another copy of Program Manager is run and the same dialog box appears. (So
repeatedly choosing Ignore causes many copies of Program Manager to be run.)
The actual game appears to run more or less okay if the installer is aborted at
that point.
I used an original SimCity ReCreation CD-ROM, but SimCity for Windows can
apparently be obtained from

The problematic stuff happens in a custom action dll.

The KB articles are pretty vague about this one. Internal error, likely
corrupted media.
Down to the metal ... actually I'm very happy that James added MsiBreak upon my
request one year ago .. can't count how may times this turned out to be a real
timesaver ;-)
export MsiBreak=CASignDPCHWIDPair
As an interesting sidebit ... that CA dll is stuffed with lots of anti
debugging traps to prevent/discourage debugging - which made the task of
tracking the problem down a bit of nuisance.
They really should focus on improving their products than doing such
kinderkram.
The installer verifies the "integrity" (slightly exaggerated) of .cab files
(OFFICE1.CAB) by iterating through the contents -> SetupIterateCabinetA().
Within the cab iteration callback, each entry is examined.
Not all entries are taken, they are filtered against a matchlist to prevent any
accidentally packaged files to be included in verification/copy process.
If an entry successfully passed the criteria it is inserted into a sorted(!)
list.
When the cab inspection is finished, all collected filenames(!) are used to
build a hashcode.
This hashcode is verified against a pre-built code, which comes from signature
file.
This fails for wine: the hash doesn't match.
There are 2500+ files in the package and manually debugging this would be
really time consuming.
No problem. Open the bag of tricks ;-)
By using automated log breakpoints at appropriate places which dump data using
expressions I was able to gather the whole list which finally revealed the
problem ...
--- snip CA dll log windows ---

Notice the different order which subsequently leads to different hash code.
The hash is reused as input between iterations.
The sort order of the list - built within the callback - is maintained using
CompareStringA():

This little but important snippet can be reduced further:
CompareStringA( 0x409, 0x1, "_", -1, ".", -1);
Guess what happens...
Wine: 0x1 (= CSTR_LESS_THAN) -> "_" < "."
Windows: 0x3 (= CSTR_GREATER_THAN) -> "_" > "."

level 1 != 0, level 2 != 0, level 3 != 0 -> range: variable
Applies to: whitespace, punctuation, symbols
Collation elements marked with an asterisk are "variable" elements.
See: http://unicode.org/reports/tr10/#3.2.2_Variable_Collation_Elements
--- snip ---
'Blanked' Variable elements are made ignorable at levels 1 through 3;
considered at the 4th level.
'Non-Ignorable' Variable elements are not reset to ignorable.
'Shifted' Variable elements are made ignorable at levels 1 through 3
their level 4 weight is replaced by the old level 1 weight.
Level 4 weight for Non-Variable elements is 0xFFFF.
'Shift-Trimmed' Same as 'shifted', but all FFFF's at the 4th level
are trimmed.
--- snip ---
Wine doesn't implement handling of such variable elements (level 4 evaluation).
Instead the level 4 data is reduced to LSB (1 bit) of 32 bit compressed
sortkey.
This means "." will always have greater weighting in wine due to level 1
(primary) than "_".
It seems the standards group changes the level 1 weighting lots of times ...

For the interested, the Mono project has some interesting info, how M$
implemented collation:
http://anonsvn.mono-project.com/viewcvs/trunk/mcs/class/corlib/Mono.Globali…
That's some serious brain damage ... wine doesn't want to do this :(
---
Coming back to Office XP ... now you ask for any proof of this?
Sure, use attached patch to get Office XP successfully installed and run.
NOTE: This is a hack and not a proper patch! Just for demo.
It adjusts the level 1 weighting for "_" to be greater than l1 of "."
A real fix (variable elements handling) needs more work.
Don't use this patch on recent wine GIT's, "msi" is currently "work in
progress" which leads to problems after installation (see
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9023).
Use wine 1.0 whatever to test with.

I confirm that this bug still happens.
The suggested patch does solve it.
Tried that on ubuntu 8.04, both wine 0.9.59 and 1.0.
The raritan remote client does get stuck later - so it's still not working
under wine, but I did not try yet to further debug it.

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #12431 +++
With wine 1.0.0 I get a strange problem with a specific program. Firefox 3.0
works with wine 0.9.58 as you'd expect it to. However, since upgrading to 1.0.0
the Firefox window has begun shifting down and to the right with every tab
closure, selection, menu click, dialog confirmation, and running away from the
cursor when attempting to focus the window. My previous bug (#14051) was marked
as a duplicate of #12431, which is closed and supposedly fixed in 1.0-rc1.
However, I experience the same bug in 1.0.0.
The program notepad does not have this problem.
I ran regression and got this:
Bisecting: 0 revisions left to test after this
[cef3bc62ce28b1e19624dd6c121bf1aa3247c3b7] winex11: Always update the window

My workaround for that was to use Ctrl-Alt-+ and Ctrl-Alt-- to change the X
resolution, then moving the mouse to line the viewport up with the window.
It's not very fun, as it involves careful alignment, but at least it gives a
type of fullscreen.

The sort of refocus that works (in X-Wing Alliance, at least) was: move the
mouse outside the desktop window, Alt-Tab to another window, Alt-Tab back.
This worked for me, at least - very reliably.

The Firefox window, when focused on, immediately shifts down, thus preventing

another tab, or hit any key to address a dialog.
Quite annoying, impacts the usefulness of Firefox in a huge way.

Without 3D desktop:
Tried 5 times to play movies in Warcraft III (in classic mode), 4 skips and at
the 5th a crash using Wine 1.0.
With 3D desktop:
I can play one movie with wine-git-0.9.59 (a patched version) and get a black
screen or a crash at the second movie. Now with Wine 1.0 the movie "Thralls
Vision" starts lagging while the audio plays normally. Some seconds later the
video is frozen and the audio is still playing. When the audio finishes I get a
black screen (instead of the frozen image).

Well, I do get correct console output if I run a console application with
wprintf and Wine under Ubuntu. Don't ask me where exactly the conversion is
done here.
Anyway, this problem affects all kinds of file I/O functions.
A prominent example is fwprintf. Try for example the following code:
fp = fopen("test.txt", "w");
fwprintf(fp, L"Test\n");
fclose(fp);
It will correctly convert the "Test" string to ANSI and write it to the file
under Windows, but just write the Unicode string into the file under Wine.
So not just console apps will be affected by this bug.

you should be able to inspect classes' fields (as they are supposed to be

Summary: EasyPal under wine fails with new kernel, OK with old.
Same wine.
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0-rc3
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: a.schapira(a)worldnet.att.net
Running application "EasyPal" works fine with linux kernel 2.6.24.7-92.fc8
However, with the newer kernel 2.6.25.4-10.fc8, EasyPal exhibits the following
problems:
1) Sometimes it cannot find the library hamdrm.dll, although it it present
and has not moved between kernels. But sometimes EasyPal does find the
library, and starts, but ...
2) When it does find hamdrm.dll, it receives incorrect information from the
sound card.
With the older kernel, EasyPal works fine.
All of my other wine applications work properly with both kernels. These
include applications that also use the sound card for signal processing.
Since EasyPal does run with the old kernel, I conclude that wine doesn't play
nicely with the new kernel.
I do not know why hamdrm.dll is sometimes not found. It does not move when I
change kernels.

It's not meant to show up if the window is inactive, it's supposed to show when
the window's active. With Windows, the mouseover box always reproduces itself
regardless of whether you sit down to a table or click away from it AS LONG AS
the window is active. With Linux, the mouseover box will show ONLY to the point
where you sit down or click away from the table. If you return the table as the
active window in Linux, the mouseover box won't reproduce itself.

Isn't that's the way windows works too? You don't get any hints on mouse over
if the window is inactive.
Sounds like invalid bug.

Hello,
--- quote ---
I'm not done working on it. Whether things work in the meantime doesn't matter
so much as the changes are backed up by tests and each patch makes it
technically more correct. The problem is that the original code is wrong and I
can't fix it all in one patch.
--- quote ---
Ok, I was checking out another bug using bleeding edge GIT and ran into this
problem.
So I unfortunately spent time bisecting/investigating a work in progress.
Actually my assumption was when patch sets for components get committed - like
the last msi [x/6] ones - they have some behavioural coverage without
loopholes/side effects.
Nevermind then ...
Regards

I'm having no problem running AIM 5.9.6089 on Wine 1.0. I just had to install
IEs4Linux before installing AIM.

Summary: Path to app.exe is wrong
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.0
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: john.sved(a)onlinehome.de
WINE 1.0 was installed via openSuSE 10.3 yast from repository on 18-06-08
WINE-DOORS 0.1.2 was also installed
IE6 was installed via WINE-DOORS. Its was test started and work OK
A Windows software tool application was installed from CD via WINE-DOORS. It
also worked ok. WINE-DOORS actually prompted to install and additional Windows
app which helped get the Help Window to work reasonably.
TomTom Home was also installed via WINE-DOORS it works partially (that is
another matter)
All three apps were added to the apps menue and could be started via the apps
menue in KDE.
Later ....
None of these apps would start.
john1:/home/john/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Internet Explorer # wine
iexplorer. exe
wine: created the configuration directory '/root/.wine'
Could not load Mozilla. HTML rendering will be disabled.
wine: configuration in '/root/.wine' has been updated.
wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\system32\\iexplorer.exe": Module not found
The iexplorer and other app exe files are where they should be in there
respective folders i.i. \Program Files\app-name
Somehow WINE configuration path information must have been changed.
I presume that this is a bug.

"Is this still an issue in wine 1.0?"
For me, the game no longer crashes when trying to play cinematics, it just
completely skips them.

in wine 1.0 it is still not working...
someone should change the priority of the bug to "Major"
many people could migrate to linux if the would have a fully working winamp
version (includes video,visualization)
thx a lot
