firefox moving around
hey guys, my 1st wine bug report.
I have a very disturbing behavior since wine-0.9.59 (now using wine-1.0-rc5)
especially with Mozilla Firefox-3.0-(alpha,pre,rcx) in fluxbox-1.0.0.
1. Whenever i open a new tab in firefox, the firefox window starts moving a
little bit diagonally to the left a few mm. Every additional tab moves the
firefox window more out of sight. I have to ALT-left grab it and move it back
where it belongs, or close it with ALT+F4.
2. Firefox window also moves diagonally whenever (mouse)focus is lost; for
instance the 'About Firefox' window, only over the main firefox window whenever
i move the mouse between both, every switch is a move.
3. confirming OK in a sub window -> move
closing a dialog window manually -> move
This is true for firefox, thunderbird, sunbird.
4. mouse wheel scroll up/down let application window move rapidly
(totalcommander and use of notepad ->F3 to view textfiles)
All the 'moving' action startet with release 0.9.59 of Wine and the included
Window management fixes.
I can only reproduce all of this in the fluxbox, in KDE everything behaves
normally.

I think this bug can be closed as won't fix. The ASIO's license is not
compatible with Wine. And wineasio can not be integrated into Wine because of
that.

When starting HeidiSQL (http://www.heidisql.com/download.php) from command line
or GUI in Ubuntu Hardy, Wine 0.9.61, the startup window that usually lets you
select the database profile opens at 1px height, displaying only the title bar,
with maximise/resize controls disabled. No keystroke combinations seem to
work. HeidiSQL worked fine until a recent wine update a few days ago.
Tried running HeidiSQL under different settings (Win98, win2k, winXP),
installed a fresh copy, reinstalled Wine. Problem persists.

I hardly believe Wine can compile modules of NE-in-ELF format and MingW suite
being able to build NE modules. So w/o all that how you would test the
behaviour?

this is a link to the game's demo it is the first of 7 parts. you don't need
the other 6 to get into the ingame engine and see the issue. you will also need
a free registration key from here: http://hcl.wcrevival.de/keygen_js.html

Any ideas why this can happen?
btw, does anybody know the way to show stack parameters of arbitrary frame?
May be it's possible to load the minidump to the IDA?

Summary: Dredd vs. Death will not install
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0-rc2
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sam(a)robots.org.uk
Trying to run the games' Setup.exe yields the following error:
"Internal Failure: Error Number: 0x80040707; Description:"
The installer will proceed up to the point where it would copy files, but there
it displays this error:
"Component Transfer Error: Unknown error"
and then exits.
According to
<http://consumerdocs.installshield.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId…>
this is because the paths mentioned in the keys under
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Shell
Folders" do not exist. After I created "~/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/All
Users/Desktop" and "~/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/All Users/Start
Menu/Programs/Startup", the installation completed without error.
So Wine should create these directories by default, and/or amend the values of
those registry keys.

Yes, I tryied 1.0-rc5 and problem is still current!
I attached sample - www.next176.sk/Project1.exe
- there is sliders for font rotation
- and there is two page controls - bottom has tab aligned to right side -
text is not displayed.
When I move with sliders in Windows - letter are rotating or with second -
whole text. Under wine - nothing is happer.. font is still with angle 0
degrees.

I can confirm the blank screens and i'm testing with wine-1.0-rc5 with the
Diablo demo. I haven't bothered to memorize the menus and start a new game like
Pekka Paalanen.
The video starts up fine showing the Blizzard logo. The video itself is off
center from the screen by almost half an inch to the right. (This seems to be
common to me as Diablo 2 and Star Trek Armada have this as well with past
releases.)
Then the screen is blank for a moment, then I hear the music that plays during
the main menu(screen is still blank). I press up and then enter to exit, blind,
the game exits properly.
Please keep in mind i'm new at this so a helpful link to any debugging
instructions would be nice. Debug log included.

Anti-alising disabled again as of Wine 1.0-RC5. The mipmapping option also
seems to be blanked out regardless of how it is set once you start a game.

Please submit your test (with failing tests commented out) to wine-patches,
then we can decide whether to make them pass under Wine as is, or ignore
(probably broken) behaviour for japanese locale.

So if apps create Arial font with ANSI_CHARSET, I guess Japanese glyphs will
display incorrect on Japanese Windows, just like wine; but on Chinese/Korean
Windows, Chinese/Korean glyphs sure display correct.

I thought replacing the Power Unit like suggest in Comment #17 would fix the
problem, but you're right it was still there.
However with RC4 + latest ATI driver release (8.5) I managed to play a couple
of at least 1 hour sessions (windowed mode - 1024x768 in Steam, default Windows
XP in wincfg) without crashing. Actually it's the first time I've been able to
run the game more than a couple of minutes, having trying every release of wine
and ATI driver for months (RC3 + fglrx 8.4 was crashing too).

Sergei posted a few times a try to fix this bug here
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2008-June/055462.html but
according to julliar it was wrong:
the right way is to make the code deal properly with both formats, not to
allocate and copy the whole cursor just to add a POINT16 to it
Hope that helps anyone to write a proper fix

That's because Arial doesn't contain japanese glyphs, once I change Arial

Nope.
The complete situation is this one :
1) With builtin ole (ole32, oleatu32, rpc4), there's NO iopl problem (even with
builtin gdiplus), but VBA doesn't work, as this bug reports.
You can indeed run as many instances of Excel as you like.
2) Installing DCOM98, which overrides ole32, oleaut32 and rpc4, VBA works
perfectly BUT you can run just one instance of Excel. Trying to start the
second one, brings IOPL error.
3) With ole32, oleaut32 and rpc4 taken from windows xp, vba doesn't work,
ole/activex doesn't work either and vba project embedded in excel is trashed.
Gdiplus doesn't help in this case... I think the vba problem is because of ole
and dcom98 ole, while resolving vba problem, brings again iopl one.
Ciao
Max

There is a bug reporting that '"make test" usually fails' (#9916). This syntax

The problem is unrelated to the actual resizing action. It doesn't matter if I
have µTorrent/Wine running or not when resizing, once I try using it with dual
monitors the systray icon breaks and I can't get it back unless I run with a
single monitor. This of course includes tests with restarting the computer etc
after switching resolutions, to make sure it's not the actual resizing breaking
things.
And yes, I do experience bug 13034 too if I have µTorrent running when
switching resolutions. And just to be sure, I moved the systray to the other
monitor (and other panels) as well, same problem there.

As of wine 1.0 rc 5, I still see this error when installing. Now something that
may be weird, when during the install asked to switch to disc 2 I have to run
the command "wine eject". Yet, after that is installed and it asks again for
disc 1, I am able to eject the cd from pushing the eject button on my cd-rom
drive. Still, even though this error comes up, I am able to start and run the
game fine.

BTW, using DCOM98 does enable VBA usage, but inhibits the execution of more
instances of excel, giving the "IOPL not enabled" error when trying to execute
second instance.
Opening more files in a single excel instance dows work.
Ciao

I'm seeing the same with Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 - the 'File' menu is blank, and
at least one time the 'Edit' menu also (though that one usually works)
The menus of Adobe look customized (not the same as notepad, for example). I'm
not using any themes.

I believe that this is trivial, but I'm not sure. My current build does not
have libncurses, but libncursesw. Configure complains. Whether they are
completely compatible, I don't know. I haven't even taken the time to research
what curses brings to the table for wine. My trivial severity above might not
be so...if nobody comments in the next few days, I'll give it a go at munging
the autotools and see what happens.

When running Halo in fullscreen mode, the Gnome panel bars overlap the game
while fullscreen.
Note that this isn't http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7771 as am I not
using Composite. It's not http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3312 either as
the games that effected (Fahrenheit, etc) now seem to work fine, so it must be
something else causing this issue, unless it IS somehow still bug 3312 (but
then why would most apps work and one not?).

Component: wine-gui

ReportedBy: lorimz(a)gmail.com
I am using wine version 0.9.39 with derive 6.10 and it works flawlessy.
wine versions >0.9.39 have a severe problem with keyboard input (tested with
.46, .49, .50):
- wine 0.9.39 => write "x^2" (or anything else with 2+ chars) in derive => the
input is recognized
- wine 0.9.(46|49|50) => write "x^2" in derive => only "x" gets recognized
starting wine from the console doesn't show any useful info - it just displays
a warning "fixme:richedit:RichEditWndProc_common EM_SETEDITSTYLE: stub" that
also shows up in 0.9.39 so it should not be the point
You can download a trial version of derive 6.10 at

AOE3 should not freeze at start of a new game after only a couple of clicks on
characters.
I installed AOE3 (probably 1.12 version or more recent) following the howto
instruction found in AppDB). As the installation process could not be pursued
until its end, I had to copy an existing AOE3 file structure from a Windows XP
to my ubuntu drive. I also used a nocd fix (one for 1.12 version). I could then
launch the game (wine age3.exe), see and hear the intro cinematics, use the
main menu and start a new game (1st as well as 2nd tutorial). I could see the
background and first units and move the screen around. But I could not click
more than twice anywhere (especially when clicking on a unit for selecting it).
The game would freeze and error messages would be displayed in the console.
Than aoe3 dies. See attachment.

memory is freed, and everything is normal.
the problem occurs for example when clicking on a tool button on the sketching

logs show that huge bitmaps are allocated (10000x10000x24bpp), causing this
problem. sometimes SetWindowsPosition is also called with a +- 10000 value on

Adding it as a milestone bug was done to give the bug more attention. While
clearing out old bugs, I found a few that I felt deserved nomination as 1.2
bugs. Nominating them gets them attention by those who actually may be able to
fix them, and deferred otherwise. I'll take more care in the future with them
then. My apologies Dmitry.

Hello,
as I already explained - this is WONTFIX.
If EIP happens to be in range of ELF code (libwine.so.1 whatever), the win32
debugger won't display disassembly by design.
The upcoming ollydbg v2 handles this better by not ending up in ELF code on
"pause" but in stack frame of last recognized Windows API call.

Resizing the desktop window on the fly is not supported at the moment, it's not
specific to systray. This is bug 13034.

I am still able to reproduce this behavior at any time with Wine RC4 and
µTorrent 1.7.7.
With one monitor active, at say 1920x1200, everything does work fine. But as
soon as I switch resolution to 3200x1600 causing my second monitor to switch
on, the systray icon disappears and loses all functionality. The space where
the icon was is now empty, as if it was simply invisible, but sometimes the
icons of other systray apps appear there. It stays that way until I switch back
to 1920x1600, left monitor turns off, I restart wine, and systray is back and
working again.
I also noted this behavior when testing Serious Samurize in Wine. The program
works but the output (an image overlayed on the desktop) is gray. Same problem
with Samurize's systray icon.
Everything also works fine if I run in virtual desktop mode.
Tested what was suggested at https://bugs.launchpad.net/wine/+bug/237300
but without result.

That patch is not a proper fix. MaxSimultaneousTextures referes to the number
of fixed function samplers a program can use, GL_MAX_TEXTURE_IMAGE_UNITS_ARB
refers to the number of samplers a fragment shader can use. The issue here is
that the nvidia drivers only expose a max of 4 sampler when using fixed
function. The only way we can work around this is to write a replacement shader
for fragment processing. This would require a decent amount of work, but should
be doable.

Yes, it is. CPU Speed 5200 MHz. 2600 by 1 core. In windows this problem can be
solved by disabling 1 core and by downloading the module "thieffixed.exe".

It's definitely not more than a year. Perhaps a month or two. Perhaps I'll do a
regression test later, but I don't have the time right now.

No, c00000020 is STATUS_INVALID_FILE_FOR_SECTION, meaning that there is
something in the format of that file that Wine doesn't like.

ntoskrnl.exe.KeInitializeInterrupt was implemented ~1y ago (fbbd91544f2ad...)
and crash is gone, but I still do not see any driver being loaded in the log.
Anyways, the app crashes further:
0009:trace:loaddll:load_native_dll Loaded L"D:\\program files\\EGOSOFT\\X2 -
The Threat\\X2.EXE" at 0x400000: native
0009:err:module:import_dll Loading library IJL10.DLL (which is needed by
L"D:\\program files\\EGOSOFT\\X2 - The Threat\\X2.EXE") failed (error
c0000020).
...
0009:trace:loaddll:load_native_dll Loaded L"D:\\program files\\EGOSOFT\\X2 -
The Threat\\PROTECT.DLL" at 0x63d0000: native
0009:err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"D:\\program
files\\EGOSOFT\\X2 - The Threat\\X2.EXE" failed, status c0000135
So the bugreport is still valid. Google finds IJL10.dll being Intel JPEG
Library. And if c0000020 refers to 32 (0x20), then this means
ERROR_SHARING_VIOLATION. Probably +relay,+snoop would reveal some reason about
IJL10.dll failing to load.

Updated hack-fix.
Austin, yes, it still is. Loading of main NE module still hasn't changed. And
we don't have Win16API test framework integrated into the project.
I updated the patch to know newer name of "kernel32" (not "kernel"). BTW, it
is not necessary a hack. IMHO, we just have no proof to confirm or refute
corectness of it.

STALKER (and I believe some other games) are missing sound in many places. For
example STALKER only has sound in the intro videos and at no other point.
I regression tested STALKER and it showed this was the commit that caused it:

I have some children games, that require 256 colors. These games all say that I
need 256 colors, althought I have 24 bit colors. This is symptom of bug 7334.
Now, I do understand the issue explained there, but when I run these games in
Windows, all I do is to go to to the specific program settings and set it to
256 colors.
Imho it does not matter whether I really have 256 or more colors, it is just
that the windows call that these games use does not take this situation on
account and returns false even if you have more than 256 when it should only
return false if you have less. And because wine mimics windows behaviour, it
correctly states that you cannot use the game.
So in wines perspective the program works correctly, but from the poor players
perspective no.
My suggestion to this is, that if you could add a parameter to registry to the
game in question, winecfg or wine command line stating that wine now has 256
(or other amount of) colors instead of what the box in reality has, this would
solve the issue. If I recall correctly, this is similar to the way Cedega works
(I subscribed it for couple of years before wine got better than it).
