The current versioning mechanism is good enough for now, we'll probably want to
revisit it when we add multi-user support. Deferring.

Summary: Can not install MDAC - Regression
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: service(a)remekmotorok.com
Background:
With Wine / Ubuntu 7.04, wine installs and winetricks will properly
install dcom98, jet40, mdac25 (My app requires all 3)
Upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04, wine and my application continue to work. (But I did
not need to run wine tricks or make any changes either).
On a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04 and wine, mdac will no longer install.
The error "windows" reports is "Error Loading SETUPAPI.DLL".

Summary: Food Force does not detect installed Quicktime
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0-rc2
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Ronny.Standtke(a)gmx.net
I wanted to use wine to run the German version of Food Force
(http://www.food-force.com/de/). Direct download link:
http://de.download.yahoo.com/fu/foodforce/pc/wfp_food_force.exe
I could install and start the program. At the first startup you have to install
the included Quicktime player. Installation of Quicktime also works.
Unfortunately, Food Force does not detect the installed Quicktime, at every
startup it wants to install Quicktime again.
Please note that the English version of Food Force works with wine.
That this program does not work with wine is really, really a pity, because
Food Force is great, downloadable and free to use and share.

Most applications of kde4 for windows fails, just some applications (like

I didn't try to compile it with winelib, that's a good chance to find errors in
both wine and kde4win codes.

Created an attachment (id=13462)

Excerpt from acemoney +message log
Have just tested it with acemoney. I've found out that the message with code
-12 that I've mentioned above is NM_CUSTOMDRAW (list view) Notification (
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb774865(VS.85).aspx ), but I dont
believe it has something to do with this bug.
However, I see that LVN_COLUMNCLICK is being managed quite different by native
and builtin comctl32.dll. Just see attached file, try to make diff of them, and
you'll see that builtin comctl32.dll just does nothing on header click.
So, this is not too much of bug, but rather missing functionality. Personally,
I have not seen apps having comctl listviews sorting working on wine.

Bearing in mind I was looking at this blind, basically the application DOES use
custom draw and hence the changes I did helped there. From the information
listed below, (1) is probably caused by the fact that tooltips draw the
contents first, then call the custom draw code (as the tests show) - to avoid
this causing problems, the tooltip text is set to " ", ie nothing... It would
appear from the description that for some reason once drawn this isnt being
overdrawn.... odd... I dont have time at the moment to look at it but this
might give a hint for a standalone test case!
As for (2), I think thats a completely different issue, but its quite hard to
understand!
One other customdraw comment - in windows the customdraw code occurs twice
(looking at the flags, once is to calc the size of the rect, the other to
draw), but my change only implemented the draw case as it resolved the test
program I was working on. I have no idea if this would help (but I doubt it -
just mentioning it for completeness).

Summary: Xlib: unexpected async reply - Touhou-9.5 halting
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0-rc1
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ghost99(a)mail.ru
When game level is loading, in one moment it halts with error:
Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x2cc)!
or with another sequences (0x2b9, 0x2b8, 0x592 and may by more another).
In previous versions of wine (0.9.58 and maybe lower) is no problems with this.
With 'halt' word i mean just stopping of application, not exit(int). For close
it, i'm just run `kill`, or pressing Ctrl-C in terminal emulator.
P.S. interesting fact: to avoid this halt, i just full loading my CPU with
application with higher 'niceless' (compiling something big, for example) and
all works fine (but some laggy, of course).
Please do something.

So, it could be reviewed by wine d3d-gurus and have a change to be included in

http://www.megagames.com/news/redir.cgi?aHR0cDovL2Rvd25sb2Fkcy5tZWdhZ2FtZXM…
Indeed the bug is in gdi32, more precisely in the file freetype.c
The culprit is that the pointer font is not NULL, but font->font_desc.hash is
not defined. Very strange....

Ok, I think I've found something interesting:
I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 and wine 1.0RC2
I tried to play BF2 (dynamic shadows and lightning disabled).
Then I created a game against bots...in the match, a tank fired at me (you know
the screen is bleary etc.)
And...while the screen was blearing, I had a "normal" screen!
No graphical bugs or something like that, just as it should be
Look at the attachment I created!

Using the current version of Wine in Ubuntu 8.04
(1.0~rc1~winehq0~ubuntu~8.04-1), and running the game in a desktop (800x600).
When attempting to play X-Wing Alliance, which seems to suffer from this bug,
if I lose the focus on the Wine Desktop, and then re-focus on the Wine Desktop,
the game seems to respond to at least a single key press. This is enough to
work around the problem, although it's less than ideal playing in a window.

Use the forums/wine-users for help with this, but in short, you'll need to
download the git tree and apply the patch. The regression testing wiki has a

I haven't tried in the latest wine 1.0 series, however I am not even sure this
problem was with winsock. If you turn on all the debug messages in wine, you
will see that the correct IP is stored in one memory address, and then the game
makes a connection from an IP stored in an entirely different address. I think
the DNS lookup is fine, if you were to take the DNS lookup code out of the
winsock DLLs and put it into a small C program, hardcoding the FQDN of a
private server, it would return the correct IP. Somehow the location of the
stored IP is getting mixed up, and I'm not sure what module that is taking
place in as of yet...

This is still a bug in Wine 1.0-RC2.
Seems to get better if I disable the search entry history list from the
problematic Textbox.
I'm supossing that this can be caused by the search history list stealing the
focus of the text box when displayed.

When a directory is chosen, the box to click ok is greyed out. When a
directory is entered manually, it indicates there is not enough space.
It worked in a previous version of wine, most likely 0.9.58 as it was a couple
months ago I last used it.

Just a comment but I cant see this being fixed in the short or possibly even
the long term. The first issue I mentioned in the link above, ie move window
not updating the visible region is definitely fixable. BUT it wouldnt help you
- the real problem here is the next bit which shows a big difference between
windows and X. In windows, the createwindow call shows the popup, and its drawn
to immediately. Under wine, the createwindows starts the action of showing the
window, but a redraw is forced when the asynchronous Expose event comes along
which is after the app has finished painting.
So the application draws to a window which isnt exposed, the expose event
occurs causing a redraw, which the application doesnt handle (as can be seen on
windows by alt-tab away to a window which partially covers it, then back
again).
As per http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.wine.devel/57793 one
solution is to buffer all the drawing which occurs before the first expose
event, but I cannot believe this will be easy to implement and given this
(unless anyone can correct me and indicate how it might be done) I'd guess this
is a border case which will remain unfixed.
Obviously, if the application redraws the popup when asked, the first issue
could be fixed, so although I hate to say it - asking the app provider to fix
that scenario would help a lot here.

Logicworks and Wine crashes (log attached) when I click Help-About in

However, when I run the application in desktop mode, like this:

it works fine.
The error is identical, though I don't get the fixme:shell line.

FWIW, this is what 'winetricks fakeie6' does.
I think the hesitation has been that this will cause
some apps which bundle IE6 to try to use the builtin
iexplore. But perhaps the time has come to flip
the default behavior around; apps that only work with
a bundled IE6 should be the ones that have to run
'winetricks nofakeie6', say.

Hello,
--- quote ---
I'm trying to install dotnet20 (using winetricks) and it seems that
CreateProcessW (called by HANDLE_CustomType34) is case sensitive, it results in
a err:msi:HANDLE_CustomType34 Unable to execute command

because the correct name of the file is NETFXSBS10.exe.
manually launch wine C:\\windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\NETFXSBS10.exe
/install seems to work.
--- quote ---
this message can be safely ignored.
Same error can be found in msi log file if you install .NET 2.0 in fresh
Windows 2K/XP...
That executable neither exists in default windows install nor in .NET msi
package.
Dumped custom action section in netfx.msi:

I was always trying to run this app as root but it didn't help :( But this log
shows something interesting. Program is trying to open port 77 whereas on
windoze it opens port 950... That's maybe the issue. For some reason port
calculation/detection works different on wine and windoze.

I have just checked anno domini's ability to access the internet ( ie on that

So I have changed the 'Resolution' to 'fixed' rather than 'Abandoned'.

Hm, this might be a different issue altogether.
The socket the WSARecv is failing from is 006c, which is bound to WS_bind
socket 006c, ptr 0x7e271828 { family 2, address 127.0.0.1, port 44302 }
I wonder what data the application is expecting on that port, as it's not
sending it itself.

Bug is still present in current git. Apparently this is because of a missing
registry key. After adding the key
HKLM\\Microsoft\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\App
Paths\\IEXPLORE.EXE
like it is in windows, the installer finishes just fine.
Anyone an idea if we should create this key by default?

Reading over the the original +winsock trace, everything _looks_ ok. There's
data transferred just fine.
However, as in the minimal example I posted a trace for, there's a
"closesocket" after the "bind". No idea what's going wrong there.

There were some valid reasons not to change the licensing. As I was the person
affected by this, I think I can fully disagree on the statement that Samba
doesn't play well with Wine.
As a question to the original reporter, the Samba 3.2 "net" tool can perform a
lot of remote operations. Care to have a look at those and see if they can do
what you need? As Microsoft bought Sysinternals some time ago and promptly
removed all the download links for the tools, I'm afraid I can't look into this
myself.

I use IceWM 1.35 and XFCE.
The bug:
-I take some part from library or move some parts taht are already placed on
workspace or try to move something "sticked to cursor"
-when I touch window-edge with this object, cursor sticks to window-egde and
program loops in this state until cursor reach apropriate (eg. top if sticked
to top of window) egde of workspace, then hangs totally.
Bug has disappeared in WINE 0.9.61, with which CMaker worked perfectly
but has returned in 1.0-rc1 and rc2.
In wine 0.9.60 it was able to hit Escape and break the loop by cancelling
placement of selected part, but not each time.

DirectPlay registry values
OK, I registered here only for posting this solution ;). I got the same
problems while trying to play Total Annihilation. I used dxdiag 5.00.2134.0001
from my Windows 2000 (SP4+Rollup1) installation to check Directplay. It's true
that you need to follow the instructions from Nick in comment #3, but this
didn't resolved the problem for me. TCP/IP still didn't work in TA and dxdiag
showed up errors in the DirectPlay tab. You need the right DLLs AND the correct
registry values which I have attached.
Greetings :)

I then upgraded my PC (8800GT graphics), re-enabled GLSL, and the game works
really well with dxlevel 90.

JScript hack
I've created a Git repository with changes that help with Photoshop installer.
http://repo.or.cz/w/wine/wine-jacek.git
These changes will be merged to Wine after code freeze. To use it, you need
native msxml3.dll and jscript.dll (no registration is needed, copying files
works fine) and an attached hack. Currently, the installer window shows up
(with error). With changes from my tree that are not yet pushed, it goes much
further, but still doesn't install.

Then pressing OK you quit Steam, but there is not another process running.
This happened since 28/03/08.
I've been using Steam and never had a problem until now.

Summary: statusbar doubletab problem
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.60
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: comctl32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tarasov.igor(a)gmail.com
I've put this to comctl32 only because bug disappears when I use native
comctl32.dll.
So, here is the bug:
reference: http://polosatus.ru/wine/status_reference.png
bug: http://polosatus.ru/wine/status_bug.png
This is statusbar, and two squares are as I suppose control characters that
make some kind of offset, or changes text positioning.
When using native library xrender logs that it prints the following:
\01fa\020d\0212\0219\021a\0003\0215\0208\0003\0015\0013\0003\01e8\0217\0218\020d\0213\0224\0003\0015\0013\0013\001b\0003\020b\0011
But when using built in, it adds two more charactes at the end: \0000\0000.
Aha! Found it! Added more capture to windebug, and have caught the following:
trace:text:DrawTextExW L"\0422\0435\043a\0441\0442 \043d\0430 21
\0410\043f\0440\0435\043b\044c 2008 \0433.\t\t", -1, [(4,3)-(749,17)] 00000824
So, here is the character: double tab. In windows, this would lead to aligning
following text to right I suppose.
The bug is reproduceable even with controlspy.
Initially, I though that problem might be with fonts, but I've installed native
windows fonts, but still it was there.
What logs you might need?
P.S: It has nothing to do with locales, since english version of this software
produces the same bug.
