Summary: mouse side buttons do not work in wine when mapped to
gtk/qt standard
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: aagaande(a)gmail.com
I recently realized my "back" button in firefox wasn't working, looked into it
and it has been remapped to mouse button 8 (back) and 9 (forward).
I found https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355477 on the subject,
quoting:
"I'm attaching a simple patch that maps X mouse buttons 8-9 to the back/forward
commands. The consensus amongst GTK+ and Qt seems to be that buttons 6-7 are
for horizontal scrolling."
However, in WINE (specifically using world of warcraft) if I can't bind
mouse4/mouse5 (what wow calls my side buttons) if I use this standard.
With this:
xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9" (standard)
Firefox back/forward works perfectly, but the side mouse buttons do not
register in wow at all.
xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 4 5 8 9 6 7"
I can bind my side buttons in wow, they register as "button4/button5" in wow,
in xev they register as 6 7. However my back button in gtk applications stops
working.

When the Bloom Renderer gets activated either in the main menu or ingame, the
screen stops updating and starts to flicker badly.
According to bug 10453, the renderer should've at least worked sometime around
0.9.48 to 0.9.52, so it must've broken between 52 and 58. Give me some time to
pinpoint the version it breaks with and do a regression test.

This is a reminder to update the README before the 1.0 release.
Issues:
1. Is tools/wineinstall deprecated? If so, we should stop mentioning it in the
quickstart sections.
2. Does Wine run with Linux 2.0.36? Should it say 2.4.x or 2.6.x?
3. We should check to see the *BSD/Solaris info is up to date.
4. Add a few useful links like:

My Logitech Cordless Rumblepad was working perfectly including force
feedback(with evdev driver) (wine 0.9.48,0.9.49) in Need For Speed Hot Pursuit
2 until wine 0.9.50 was relased. In 0.9.50 i have very strange deadzones(and
random resetting of axes like old function 'autofire :P'), with both input
handlers(/dev/input/js0 and /dev/input/event2). I was chmoding devices to make
sure, they are not used. I made regression test for "git bisect start
dlls/dinput" setting 0.9.49 as good, and 0.9.50 as bad.
"$ git bisect good
Bisecting: 0 revisions left to test after this
[1ed3a815edc0edca2c077a1a2795414fca187cf7] dinput: Fix dead zone handling"
Now all works perfectly.
---
Problem exist still in 0.9.52. Main problem is limited deadzone of left and
upper halfs of axes [steering right and breaking/riding backward works
perfectly]. Its hard to drive using joypad with limited deadzones, but much
more harder with non-symetrical deadzones. And theres also problem using
multiple axes in one time(often mowing one axes cause resetting(setting to 0)
other axe).
I think its related to:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9720
And resolution of this bug was probably one big regression.

Audiosurf crash log.
The game Audiosurf crashes with a page fault on read access to a NULL pointer
on Wine 0.9.61.
I'm adding this bug, because the game has worked on a previous version of wine,
in this case, 0.9.46. However, the game would either not display properly on
versions after that, including 0.9.59, which is provided with Ubuntu Hardy, or
as in 0.9.61, it seems to display properly, but crashes with a page fault.
Though I am not familiar with the source, I would assume this may be an easy
fix, or at least easier than some, though I suspect it may be related to other
bugs filed such as http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5024. I'm sure there
are others who play the game and would like this bug fixed so they don't have
to use an older version.

The attached .reg file causes regedit to create weird entries
"Key"=hex(1): for empty string fields
in .wine/{system,user}.reg instead of the regular "Key"="".
This regresssion appeared somewhere between 0.9.49 and .53.
Regedit displays a few characters of random garbage in the input field when
attempting to edit those keys. No error is seen. Clearing the input in the
regedit GUI causes .wine/*.reg to contain a normal "" value.
Applications complain about their registry settings when regedit
produced these weird values.
Some application's installers create such bogus entries, e.g. Crazy
Machines from Pepper Games.

black bug?
Hi,
I wanted to test the Sacrifice demo you can find here
http://downloads.gamezone.com/demosfiles/t1699.htm
On startup you can choose a Direct3D Driver, but I can select DirectDraw HAL
with Wine D3D7 HAL (or RGB or T&L HAL) only.
But this is leading to rendering problems: Black figures, a black square behind
my mouse pointer, white grassland in squares...
To give an idea I post an image.
(I didn't change the standard configuration, I only select Toturial 1)
Greetings
Jan

Facewound does not run on my AMD64 installation of Hardy Heron, but it ran fine
under 32-bit.
When facewound is run, a window outline will appear, then disappear. No sound,
no video, no nothing. The level editor pops up two boxes titled "Unhandled
Exception..." that read "Oh crap! We've crashed! A Minidump has been saved,
send it to Garry!"
Given that this is an unmaintained alpha-code-quality app, I'm not sure how
much good a bug report can do. I probably wouldn't be submitting it were it not
that it runs under 32-bit.

Start the demo with jkdemo.exe -windowgui - start a new game, once the level
loads, press esc, go into the setup, video configuration, enable 3d
acceleration, 640x480, save the settings and return to the game.
The following occurs:
err:d3d:WineD3D_ChoosePixelFormat Can't find a suitable iPixelFormat

Major opcode of failed request: 142 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 7838

It does work ok if you enable 3d acceleration prior to starting a new game
though.
This used to be ok a few versions ago, but some regressions have occurred which
have broken this game and then been fixed again.

Summary: Regression: sPlan 6.0: Illegal Floating Point Operation
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.51.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.abacom-online.de/demos/splan60(demo).exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: liquitsnake(a)gmx.net
sPlan 6.0 with a newer version of Wine (like 0.9.51) works fine with every
part, as long as the parts don't contain curves. If they do, the program gives
me an error message that states that there's a "Ungültige
Gleitkommaoperation", which translates to "Invalid Floating Point operation"
Last working version is 0.9.36. Above that it gives me an unhandled exception.
Going higher in version (0.9.51) silences the console log, but gives me the
error box with Invalid Floating Point operation. The cause in all cases are
parts that contain curves.
If you want me to check any specifig debug channels, just name them.
There's a free demo that can be downloaded from the link given. To reproduce:
-install and start it
-use the drop-down menu in the upper left corner to choose e.g. Transformers (I
don't know if that's available in the demo, but every list that contains parts
with curves will do)
-select a part with curves and drag-'n'-drop it into the main screen
Now whenever your mouse hits that part you just dropped on the main screen, it
pops the dialog box. The software is unusable in this state.

Summary: Error during install after compile from source

Perhaps this should not really be listed under "major" - it doesn't seem to
be a "show stopper".
For the first time ever there were problems in compiling and installing WINE
from source (I've been doing it for years and verson 0.9.59 went OK). I think
the compile went OK and the problem was with the install: ./tools/wineinstall
I'm running Fedora core 5 (I know it's old) on a Thinkpad T30.
The install never finished ... I tried a couple of ^C's & when nothing seemed
to happen I finally killed the window.
The programs I've tried to run seem to run OK, but load VERY slowly.
Especially program WXtide32 loads a LOT more slowly than before.
Here is the output from the latter part of the install
.........

Summary: cepstral speach stops working when reading a second time

Version: 1.0-rc1
Platform: PC

Callie_windows_4.2.0.msi
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: msclrhd(a)gmail.com
Steps to reproduce:
1. Run ./wine msiexec -i Cepstral_Callie_windows_4.2.0.msi
2. Run ./wine "c:\\program files\\cepstral\\bin\\swifttalker.exe"
3. Enter "Hello world."
4. Go to the beginning of the document.
5. Press the play button on the toolbar at the bottom of the window.
The following should be spoken "This voice is not licensed. Please visit
wwww.cepstral.com to purchase a license. Hello world."
Only the "This voice is not licensed." part is spoken.
6. Pressing stop then speaks the "Please visit wwww.cepstral.com to purchase a
license." part.
7. Pressing Play again, nothing happens.
8. Pressing Stop again hangs the app.
For registered voices, you can play to the end of the document. Going back and
reading it again, or pasting new text into the editor and reading that causes
the same behaviour as steps 7 and 8.
This is a regression from wine-0.9.61.

This bug still exists in the latest version of wine, and since it's of interest
to me as well (and the last comment here is several months old), I ran the
regression. I'm new at this whole thing, so please let me know anything else I
can do to help.
I ran git according to the above link, with good as wine-0.9.48 (the version
mentioned as good in comment #52), and bad a wine-1.0-rc1. The final result I
got was thus:
d4a3e9c01621d454f1373d12a450b9cc569c5603 is first bad commit

I'm not sure what the listed patch would have to do with this problem from the
description, but the bug seems to stem from there.

Doesn't seems like dinput problem. More like luck of DIB engine / not optimal
ddraw performance.

I'm confirming this problem as still being an issue in

. The file linked to by the URL doesn't seem to exist anymore, so the URL
should be updated to http://irpinball.ztnet.com/files/vpinball8_1.zip

Well, looking at the MSDN documentation it seems that the wine version of this
function is buggy because the function should return 0 on failure and 1 on
success. And obviously, the function succeeds (when you look at the error
messages).

Is there anything new on that bug ?
I'm trying to have the Wheel of Time
<http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1584> editor
working with wine ... And I have this problem as well (it is also the Unreal
Engine). But well, it's a bit difficult since the editor doesn't even installs
properly even on native Windows.
But, well, thanks for the hints on that issue.

Gotta agree w/Dan. When WINE's html-related DLLS are mature, this should just
work; this needs to stay open until resolved.
Not being able to read the rules when I join a new server is one of the reasons
I don't use Wine for CS:S. That, and that it won't use more than one core on
my q6600 (system runs at 27 - 30% CPU, all the way through the stress test -
even though I'm sure my nVidia 9600GT is not the bottleneck).

This still has not been fixed nor discussed since last December, and the
behavior persists in 1.0-rc1.
If Alexei's fix isn't reasonable, can we come up with one that is? It seems
like, based on the discussion of the problem, there should be other
applications affected by this, and the fix would not be intensely
time-consuming for someone familiar with the code.
(I could, of course, be talking out of my posterior - in that case, please
forgive me.)

With today's git, Firefox 3 RC1 handled the flash benchmark

Firefox 2 still behaves strangely on third test.

Confirming this is still a problem using wine-1.0-rc1 and the most recent

Misread that, you're correct. However, ATI drivers (as well as intel) are known
for being incomplete. Nvidia is currently the most feature complete, especially
when it comes to games (Compiz/glxgears/etc. do not strain the graphics
card/driver the way many games do). See also http://wiki.winehq.org/fglrx

If the problem occurs when changing drivers, why do you assume the bug is in
Wine? The OSS drivers do not implement all needed features, that's the problem.

With wine-1-rc1 and the most recent ATI catalyst drivers on Debian Sid x86_64
and an ATI X1800 XT card I keep getting this error when starting with opengl
switch:
libGL error: drmMap of framebuffer failed (Nicht genügend Hauptspeicher
verfügbar)
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
Then WC3 starts but the graphics are corrupted and I have like 1 frame/second.
The drivers are correctly installed, Direct Rendering from glxinfo sais YES and
other games in Wine like Counter Strike 1.6 using OpenGL run fine.
Did anyone solve this problem?

I had the same problem with fonts - application requests oem_charset.
I have rewritten one "free" row in the FONT_tci table
from: { DEFAULT_CHARSET, 0, {{0,0,0,0},{FS_LATIN1,0}} },
to: { OEM_CHARSET, 852, {{0,0,0,0},{FS_LATIN2,0}} },
It is bad solution because it works only with my locale, but may be this can
point to bug cause.

WoW error
I have WoW installed on a shared FAT32 partition between Windows XP SP3 and
Ubuntu 8.04. WoW works fine in windows, but does not in ubuntu.
I used to be able to run it, but the graphics were so slow, so I used windows.
After the 2.4.2 patch, and after installing Wine 1.0 RC I tried Ubuntu again, I
am getting the error:
ERROR #131 (0x85100083) File Corrupt
Program: E:\World of Warcraft\Wow.exe
File: DBFilesClient\AnimationData.dbc
I am using the modifications from
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WorldofWarcraft (i.e. Changing the cfg file
and adding reg tweak). I have ran with -opengl and with -d3d, with the same
error. I have also used the WoW repair utility to delete the cache and check
the files.
The file cannot be corrupt, as it works perfectly well in Windows (same
files!!).

I confirm this bug. For me it is due to resolution. In 1440x900 (default

but with a resolution under this one (tried with 1280x800), everything is fine.

For me, the EULA is displayed as all boxes.
"winetricks corefonts" doesn't help.
"winetricks riched20" changes it to display nothing instead of boxes...
so perhaps this isn't a richedit problem, even though the symptom is in
richedit.

I got the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. multiplayer beta (probably the full game too) to work
with native dplay dlls. Do this (on a clean system):
- download DirectX runtime (do NOT use dlls from a windows partition):
http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/4/c/64c3d3d6-c5da-47eb-9db4-86e45b…
- run the executable and select a folder to extract to
- extract dxnt.cab using cabextract
- copy dp* from the .cab archive to windows/system32
- override dlls with winecfg: dplay, dplayx, dpnaddr, dpnet, dpnhpast, dpnlobby
- register dlls: for f in dplayx.dll dpnet.dll dpnhpast.dll dpnhupnp.dll
dpvacm.dll dpvoice.dll dpvvox.dll; do wine regsvr32 $f; done

Even the minimize problem seems to be fixed at least with UltraVNC 1.04 RC16
but the full screen bar is still shown everytime except in full screen mode
(quite funny) and it is always on top so if an UltraVNC session is running you
can't read the title of other running apps.

It works on Cedega because they use a hacky method to make it work (same style
they use to get most things working like making Starcraft run faster in the
first place).
As was said, this is irrelevant and doesn't help fix this bug, please refrain
from random chatter on the bug.
The only way this is going to get fixed is if you find a developer to fix it or
learn how to code well enough to fix it yourself, repeatedly asking for it to
be fixed or whining will not aid in the slightest.

I'm still having this issue in 0.9.59 even after setting hl2.exe to run in
Win98. The game freezes and I have to reboot my computer. I've noticed that the
issue only comes up when I play on internet hosted servers; I've had no issue
at all playing against bots.
I agree that this must be a "font" related problem.
Does Luke's old font "hack" still work for the new versions of wine?
Is it possible to force CSS not to render player names?

It's worth to note that I can reproduce "W - Lotus Notes" under XP only
when running under logger.exe (API logger tool), otherwise it's fine.
Spy++ under XP reports that main Notes window is unicode. Once I hack
IsWindowUnicode() to return TRUE for main Notes window the bug disappears
under Wine.

I run notes.exe under wine. Starting with nlnotes.exe has the same effect no
difference.
I tried under windows xp sp2(that is the microsoft product)And I could not Make
the "orkspace" disapear, using nlnotes to startup.
This was however with notes 5.0.11 .
For the reproducablity under wine... It was a fresh install so I started with
no ~/.wine at all with the install of lotus notes 5.0.12, just started the
installer and it worked.
Afterwards I added winegecko and used that as the notes browser and installed
acrobat7.1 none of these actions changed the behaviour only switching from xp
to 98 made the difference.
W instead of workspace happens when windows xp,2000,2003,vista,2008 is selected
Workspace is written when windows 98,me,95 is selected I did not try nt since i
heard its bad....
ps when I exit notes on the prompt this error pops up
err:ole:CoReleaseMarshalData IMarshal::ReleaseMarshalData failed with error
0x8001011d
and i noticed that compacting a database(the workspace in this case is not a
function that is supported yet) Wich is weird since a very old version of
crossoveroffice server edition (from 2002) which we have a very old license for
is supporting it. But this is not related to this bug but i just noticed...
should probably file a bug report for this.

OK, I see this. It's in the main window caption:
"W - Lotus Notes" instead of "Workspace - Lotus Notes"
What's interesting, if I run notes.exe under XP SP3 I get "Workspace - Lotus
Notes", but if I run nlnotes.exe I get "W - Lotus Notes".

sorry I can not add text to my previous post.
What I needed to add was that this is with client 5.0.12 .

fixme:imm:ImmReleaseContext (0x200c4, 0x11d418): stub
err:ole:CoReleaseMarshalData IMarshal::ReleaseMarshalData failed with error

Created an attachment (id=13191)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=13191)
shift+up selects the appropriate number of items
I'm not exactly sure what the loop started with the modified if is doing, but
I'm pretty sure that resetting the selection pointer if it's > the current
selected item is simply wrong. Therefore, this "find selected item or, failing
that, start of range" loop should be done only if there is no selected item.
Therefore, I propose removing the check mentioned formerly.
The benefit is it won't go through all the effort just to be ignored, as with
patch 6082, and... I'm not sure what 12668 does.. it doesn't appear it would
even work. (Actually, patch 12668 would probably allow you to select three
items, then repeat the behavior.)
I'd say: fixed.

Crashing still exists in Ubuntu 8.04 (with ATI drivers from the Ubuntu
repository) and WINE 1.0 RC1. I have also discovered a new problem with the
uninstaller in addition to the old one (mentioned in my post above).
The uninstaller also crashes after launching with an error box stating: "An

Creating a symbolic link winspool.dll.so to winspool.drv.so fixes the missing
DLL startup problem. The program starts but immediately generates a WS Guide
error window: "An unexpected application error occurred. The application will
exit now. Code: '1050'". I am using the 1.0-rc1 from the wine repository on
Ubuntu 8.04.
In addition, wine error messages occur under some conditions when running
from the terminal window. The messages occur in pairs and depend on the user
and the windows version.
Normal user session, version W2000 or XP:
No wine error messages

Summary: CATVids, CATRaxx etc: Regression: Thumbnails becomes
black squares

Platform: PC-x86-64
URL: http://www.fnprg.com/catvids/dl/catvids_setup.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial

When adding a picture to a movie/CD/book in the CAT software series thumbnails
are generated for different views in the programs. A regression causes all
those thumbnails to become black squares.
How to duplicate:
Download and install the demo version of e.g. CATVids.
(http://www.fnprg.com/catvids/dl/catvids_setup.exe) Open the included sample
database. Click Tools -> Database Maintenance -> Regenerate thumbnails. All
thumbnails will now become black.
A regression test results in this final output:

winex11.drv: Optimise getting the bits of a DIB after calling SetDIBits.
Sync the application's bits in SetDIBits if the input bits are in
exactly the same format and the size of the image is small enough not to
cause a performance hit (in case the application doesn't get ever access
the bits directly).

Games' wine console output
Dear Wine developers,
Good afternoon. Today I am going to tell you one important fact about wine.
I am using wine since when it was version 0.9.30.
I mostly use wine to run some my favorite windows games under linux.
Now I should be specific to the topic.
I have found a bug under wine playing a number of game, which are:
1. Hitman Codename 47.
2. Hitman 2.
3. Hitman 3 contracts.
4. Air strike 3D.
The first three has both Opengl and DirectX rendering capabilities.
The last one is built using OpenGL.
I have able run the games using wine version 0.9.44. But when I have installed
the latest version of wine all of the games has not run anymore. However
the first three games are yet playable using DirectX rendering settings.
I have tested with these wine versions:
0.9.50, 0.9.52, 0.9.54, 0.9.56, 0.9.58, 0.9.60, 0.9.61 and 1.0-rc1.
One last point, for the first three game, I have to edit hitman[X].ini text
file
placed in the game directory and change the following line:
DrawDll RenderOpenGL.dll to DrawDll RenderD3D.dll
to run the games in the latest version of wine.
The last game does not run anymore.
Is it related to the wine windows OpenGL implementation?
Windows and cedega should be replaced by WinE.
I have included the console output of each game using wine version 1.0-rc1.
good bye.
