Still an issue in wine-0.9.61. When you press F12 to take the screen shot, the
game generates a .bmp file which when viewed (eg with Gwenview or Gimp) is all
black.
Capturing the screen via external means works fine (eg KSnapshot activated with
PrintScrn) as a workaround. Not that big of a deal for normal use of the game.

My Slackware machine has truetype fonts installed, so it happens every time. On
my Ubuntu machine, this seems to only happen with corefonts installed. Without
corefonts, there's no spinners, but the install text looks horrible. (as
reported in bug 12731)

worked, but not demo 10. Perhaps you can ask the author what changed?

I ran into this bug today when I tried to install Movie Magic Screenwriter 2000
(version 4) in order to update its test data in the AppDB, which is quite old.
I got a "dispatch initialization error" from Shrinker, though in my case it was
for the file "setup-32.exe." After a bit of research, I found this bug report.
I downloaded the DeShrinker program, and used it to decompress the setup-32.exe
file. That did get rid of that particular error message, but then I got one
telling me that the program had to be installed from the original cd. So
manually decompressing the file is not an option in this case. I'll be happy to
test the patch, but need some instruction as to how to do that.

> INHO the whole winecfg should be made wider.
Or taller. A combo box could be placed above the tabs for selecting the
application. Next to it an "Add" button which brings up a dialog box to add an
app to the list. The advantage of this approach is that the winecfg dialog
retains more of its compactness (I'm not sure how important this is however).

I'm experiencing this problem in AvP1 Alien Demo (see this bug
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12944 for a download link of the demo).
If I have virtual desktop disabled the mouse stops "working" if I move it too
far to the right/left/whatever. I'm currently compensating it through angular
movement via the keyboard and "finetuning" with the mouse. That's of course
horrible to play.
If vdesktop is on I can better see the problem. You can clearly see that the
mouse escapes the windows if it's moved too far. As soon as it escapes the
window no more input is generated in the game. Upon inserting the cursor into
the vdesktop area again input continues.

I have the same problem with Willem EPROM programmer. No wonder it's so slow
when you look at Wine parport code - for each port access, massive amount code
is run:
1. DOSVM_outport()
http://source.winehq.org/source/dlls/winedos/ioports.c#L501
this fortunately calls IO_pp_outp() early
2. IO_pp_outp()
http://source.winehq.org/source/dlls/winedos/ppdev.c#L295
this loops over all parport devices, changes data direction (in some cases) and
calls IO_pp_do_access()
3. IO_pp_do_access()
http://source.winehq.org/source/dlls/winedos/ppdev.c#L234
this claims the port, does the in/out and releases it again
I guess that claim/release in (3) can be eliminated (just claim it on first
access and never release as I doubt that anyone wants other applications to
mess with parallel port during EPROM programming).
The for loop in 2 could be probably improved somehow. Changing the data
direction might not be needed always, depending on previous access (but I don't
know parallel port programming details in Linux).

There's a demo in the url field...You'll need winetricks vcrun6 to run it.
Launching it gives a screen that looks something like a 'something went
wrong..do you want to submit an error report?' I'll attach a screenshot.

You can include +winspool in the log, but the fixme about
PRINTER_ENUM_CONNECTIONS was never related to a crash.
We need to verify, that both apps have the same Problem in Wine.

This bug affects Keepsake as well. The game crashes if you by accident move the
mouse pointer to another screen, I.E unfocus the game while in fullscreen.

Patch works fine here as well. Since we're in a code freeze for 1.0, adding a
conformance test would be needed to get it accepted (and good practice always).

In theory Bug #12640 is resolved, but this one isn't with FL Studio 8 and Wine
0.9.61 Perhaps the difference is that FL Studio is a *programmatic* minimize,
as opposed to a minimize invoked by the window manager (of course after
minimizing, the unminimize is then handled by the window manager).

The Anti-aliasing option seems to be working as of Wine 0.9.61, but I did have
to reinstall GTA San Andreas due to a unrelated problem. When I checked the
Anti-aliasing option, it worked.
I am guessing that it should work without reinstalling GTA San Andreas.

There are still some problems with the help functionality in some programs:
When trying to use the help in Delphi 5 (yes it's quite old but still used in
education .. tried with Wine 0.9.59, 0.9.60 and 0.9.61 and os settings of
Windows XP, 2000 and 98, german localization) it says delphi5.hlp could not
been found. It is possible to choose it manually from
drive_c/Programme/Borland/Delphi5/Help/delphi5.hlp, but the help browser fails
to load a topic (it says it should load in a few seconds but nothing happens).
When clicking on "Themen"(topics) it shows a correct list of all help topics,
it is possible to choose one of them and the correct help text is shown, but
hyperlinks in this text to other help topics don't work (nothing happens). (The
search function also doesn't work but that is already mentioned in
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7636).

I would like to add that while the place part fix works(commenting out and
recompiling), it still will not allow the user to simulate a circuit once it is
built. The pspice simulation configuration menus do not even show up in Orcad
Capture. This is using Orcad PSPICE student edition 9.1 which is available to
download free on-line. If there is a version that does work well with WINE
(will properly simulate circuits built in Capture) do let us know.

I noticed that on 0.9.60 Starcraft: Brood war 1.15.2 speed is better on my PIII
600Mhz CPU. Now CPU load is ~91% so game is playable. Just when too much action
like intense battle comes into screen lag appears. Still I want to remember to
everyone that with windows 95 same situation is on PI 90Mhz CPU.
But because I skipped some older wine versions and game itself got some updates
it is hard to say anything more.

I'd like to see the x86-64 server request padding patch go in if there is still
time as Winelib64 is partly working these days.
See Greg van Geldorp's comments here
http://oss.gse.nl/wine/
Allocate more space in server request structure
I submitted a patch for this which was at first ignored. Some time later, a
thread
[http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2006-July/049811.html] was started
on wine-devel about this patch. If I understand the argument correctly,
Alexandre says the patch wastes memory. I'm not sure I understand that, it's
not like there are thousands or even hundreds of these structures allocated at
the same time. In fact, I ran some tests and found the maximum number of
request structures allocated at the same time to be 3. So the maximum amount of
memory saved would be 3 * 32 = 96 bytes of stack space, on Wine64 only (no
waste on Wine32). To conserve that amount, extra code would need to be added
for more complicated packing and unpacking. My guess is that the code to do
that would take up more than 96 bytes, making this a nett loss.
In the mean time, Pavel Roskin submitted a slightly better version:
Patch [http://oss.gse.nl/wine/Win64-needs-more-space.txt]

Well, it's not an amstream bug, it's a bug in msadp32.acm - the Golf crash
occurs while attempting to decode a block of stereo audio when the predictor
value used with a lookup table exceeds the size of the table.
I was debugging at this the other day and saw the same problem triggered by
Microsoft 3D Movie Maker but when decoding monaural data.
It can be worked around by using a native msadp32.acm

Summary: Kega Fusion: Directinput exception at start-up after
half a dozen runs
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.57.
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.eidolons-inn.net/tiki-index.php?page=kega
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tgheretford(a)fast4.net
After starting the program after half a dozen times without problem, Wine will
crash upon start-up and immediately exit. This has happened after installing
Kega Fusion twice and without warning or applying any changes in the programs
settings. From what I can make from the command line, the error applies to
Directinput, though when the program ran, my Mad Catz Game Controller worked
fine without any problem.
I found deleting fusion.ini fixed the problem temporarily, but it isn't idea,
doesn't occur in Windows and the bug occurs again after starting up half a
dozen times, so this isn't an one off bug but a recurring bug.

Perhaps you have a media problem...?

I'm using Lotus Notes 7.0.2 with wine 0.9.53/Ubuntu 7.10
In some places in Lotus Notes, there are what I call "date selector", which are
small calendar displayed so you can easily choose a day. A typical place where
it is used is when you schedule an appointment.
This date selector is not displayed when LN is used with Wine.
Instead, clicking the date selector button writes the current date into the
date field. No error is displayed in the console.
Workaround : you can still write the date manually or use the up/down arrows to
change the date in the field.

Product: Wine

Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P4
Component: wine-shell32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: chortos(a)inbox.lv
Since version 5.5, IE supports the CSS property ‘writing-mode’. It enables
vertical text layout, in which text flows from top to bottom and lines flow
from right to left. Fullwidth characters (including all non-specially-halfwidth
CJK) are to be rendered as usual (with their top pointing towards the absolute
top of the box), while halfwidth characters are to be rotated by 90°. In Wine,
on the other hand, all characters are rotated no matter what width they are.
Here is a closely related piece of text from MSDN
(http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb250415.aspx):
‘Operating system limitations prevent the correct display of East Asian
characters in an upright orientation in some configurations. This limitation
has been eliminated in Microsoft Windows® 2000, but Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0
and Windows 9x systems require a version of the operating system that has been
localized for an East Asian language to ensure that these characters display
correctly.’

I reinstalled Wine 0.9.56 from the repository onto my Xubuntu 7.10 machine.
When I try to run any application I get an error message stating no window can
be created. This afternoon I got a game to run for a couple of hours even
though it could not actually played, but I could start it. Now whatever I do I
get this message:
Host[user]:~ $ winecfg
Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded.
Unknown error (998).
Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded.
Unknown error (998).

And this can also be said for any other application even though those still
produce other error messages beside that, but this is not the bug I'm trying to
describe. I run a Dualhead setup on an ATI graphics card with the latest
drivers (Catalyst 8.3 - 8.47.3). I get this 100% of the time and I did not
change anything on my system since this afternoon. I did purge Wine from the
system and reinstalled it from scratch but it produces this bug right "out of
the box".

Summary: Dungeon Siege graphics problems since removing the pixel
format limitation
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.60
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: roderick.greening(a)gmail.com
CC: thunderbird2k(a)gmx.net
Tested with most recent release as well as git version. As of wine 0.9.57,
Dungeon Siege does not display the main menu correctly (there's some shadow
effect which appears above all the buttons rather than below) and in game, all
the 3D elements are not properly clipped based on point of view.
This is directly related to the following patch which I used as git bisect to
narrow down to.
8293a9ead0ddbc40be62815f0f0823356665b3dc is first bad commit
commit 8293a9ead0ddbc40be62815f0f0823356665b3dc

I am unsure as to whether this is a problem with Xorg 7.3 (server 1.4), my
Intel card using driver 2.2.1, the game itself, or wine.
I do know that I can play Neverwinter Nights natively (linux client) and it
uses OpenGL and 3D without any visual problems. As well, running Half-Life 1
via Steam.exe works and no issues in game. All using wine 0.9.60.
I am willing to try additional things to find the problem as the game is quite
unplayable since removing the pixel format limitation.

Setup starts to extract files to C:\windows\temp, then after a while, suddenly
bombs out, saying it couldn't start the msiexec process (with a General

I'll attach a +relay log.
FWIW, copying the msi file to another location (the temp folder gets erased
after the error) and launching it directly works fine.

Screenshot of error dialog
Reproducing this issue requires some setup. It is necessary to obtain the
Miranda IM 0.8.0 Test Build 10 from the bug URL. The ZIP should be unpacked to
an empty directory, then the plugin ZIP (from
http://themiron.mirandaim.ru/down/historypp-alpha-2008.02.27-17.46-bin.zip)
should then be downloaded, and the historypp.dll file should be unpacked to the
Plugins folder of the Miranda directory, and the historypp_icons.dll file in
the icons folder of the plugin ZIP should be unpacked to the Icons folder of
the Miranda directory, and then the VC++ 6 redist should be obtained via
winetricks vcrun6.
Running miranda32.exe, the issue becomes apparent. As part of its loading
process, Miranda IM attempts to load its plugins. When the History++ plugin is
loaded, it attempts to call an unimplemented function:
wine: Call from 0x7b8444d0 to unimplemented function
msftedit.dll.DllGetVersion, aborting
and thus falsely claims that the "richedit 2.0+ module is missing".
There are other issues that are present in Miranda IM, but those are reserved
for separate bug reports.

I just tried the Photoshop CS2 installer (demo installer is the same as the
retail installer, so this applies to both), which worked in my current
configuration in Wine 0.9.57 and 0.9.58.
I've tried running the "Setup.exe" that runs from autorun (it displays the
Adobe splash and language selection screen). as well as the actual installer,
which is "Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) CS2\\setup.exe".
It crashes in msi:ACTION_CallDllFunction calling the "ExtractHTML" function in
a DLL provided by the installer.
Googling the error shows another user is experiencing the same problem:
http://de.pastebin.ca/978284
I believe this is a regression from 0.9.58, as I recall the installer worked
correctly then.

ReportedBy: m.krenek(a)gmail.com
There is a problem with textures/shading in Dream Aquarium (latest demo version
1.1400). Everything works great, but some fishes appear white (or more
precisely light grey). If you run Dream_Aquarium.scr /c (configure), select
Expert Controls and then change graphics mode to "OpenGL (GLSL)", then this bug
disappears (all fishes have right colors), but OpenGL mode in Dream Aquarium is
no longer supported (is being phased out). So I think that this shading bug is
related to Wine implementation of Direct3D.
Dream Aquarium requires native gdiplus.dll library (it doesn't start without
it), but I don't know if it could be related with this shading bug.
Also if I start it from console, wine give me this output:

"Allow desktop manager to manage applications" was checked. It was, but
obviously doesn't work.
Which makes that as soon as the window is reduced, you can't get it back on
screen although it is still running. And since this program is used to create
scripts, it can be very pissing if you had not saved before reducing...
The only hack around I found yet was to emulate a virtual desktop in winecfg
but then other apps I launch must run in that virtual desktop :S .
Moreover, this bug obviously is a regression since it was working in 0.9.3x .
Thank you for your attention.
Regards,
Olivier.

More tests show that it's really User-Agent that is special. This header
is not set until HttpSendRequest is called. Patch is in the works.

I wrote a test that shows that HttpAddRequestHeaders(...,
HTTP_ADDREQ_FLAG_ADD_IF_NEW) really is supposed to fail if one or more
of the supplied headers already exist. The problem lies deeper; on Windows
headers are not present in a request until the request has been sent, on Wine
they are present before, hence the failure adding the user agent string.

Actually, you don't need to think to decide what is a bug or what isn't. If
something does work on Windows out-of-the-box but doesn't work in WINE then
this is by definition WINE bug.
"Improvement" is addition of something that doesn't exist in Windows at all.
For example, implementing not yet implemented Control Panel in Audio tab.
In this particular case, this is of course bug in WINE because I assume that
the video in the game works fine on Windows out-of-the-box.

I just had this happen with Wine 0.9.60. After copying the files to an NFS
share (not enough space on local disk), installation succeeded. Maybe this has
something to do with data2.cab being over 4 gigabytes in size? Nothing
suspicious in a +file trace though.

Xinerama or TwinView alone is not the optimal solution, since these programs
need to see multiple separate display devices in order to use the multihead
features. I think the optimal solution would be to read Xinerama information
(XineramaQueryScreens) and give that back from various functions.
There is at least one game that supports a dualhead setup natively, that being
Supreme Commander. It can be sort of worked around with using a dualhead
resolution and split screen, but that makes all UI elements that are normally
centered on the primary screen appear in between the screens.

With today's Git (wine-0.9.60-600-g10e676a), native shdocvw and shlwapi don't
seem to be necessary, but I do encounter problems with mshtml and OLE.
Regardless, the application seems to start successfully, though I have not
tried its functionality.

With today's Git (wine-0.9.60-600-g10e676a), no hang occurs with or without
dcom98 and the application starts successfully, though if dcom98 is not
installed, the application complains about failure to initialize legacy
language suite.

Installing and running Mediamonkey 2.5.5 after using winetricks to install MDAC
2.7, Jet 4.0, and WMP 10 works with today's Git (wine-0.9.60-600-g10e676a),
though an "error during player initialization" dialog pops up, but doesn't
hamper starting the application. The unimplemented function message still shows
up, but doesn't seem to affect application behavior. Closing the application
results in an exception however. Mediamonkey 2.5.5 can be fetched from
http://web.archive.org/web/20070430165055/http://www.mediamonkey.com/MediaM…
as the current Mediamonkey version is 3.0.2.

By doing "wine eject" in latest git the install seems to go fine. Except I
receive similar problems as seen in bug #9002. In the end, though, the game
does start up and seem to play fine.

I followed the directions given in the original bug report and can confirm that
after running the file through all those translations the result of pasting the
text copied from the PDF into Word 2003 or native Open Office is still
gibberish. I also tried creating the PDF by printing to cups-pdf from Word
2003, with the same end result when copying/pasting the text. So I can confirm
it's still an issue with 0.9.60.

Hello,
--- quote ---
The app is passing a read-only address (405809) to CB_GETLBTEXT. Probably
Windows has an exception handler in there, this would need a test case.
--- quote ---
After dissecting the app code my educated guess is that this app suffers from a
bug in delphi runtime this app is statically linked with - which was fixed by
the vendor a long time ago.
See http://qc.codegear.com/wc/qcmain.aspx?d=3371 for explanation.
It crashes in Windows 2000 and previous versions but is gracefully handled in
Windows XP and later.
If you call SendMessage( hWnd, CB_GETLBTEXT, index, buffer) with read-only
address on Windows XP or later, CB_ERR (-1) is returned.
For wine it makes sense to add SEH regardless of windows config which lets this
app successfully start.
Regards

Hello,
--- quote ---
The installer exits silently after Windows Component Update (step 1)
asks whether I want to install IIS or FrontPage 2000 extensions.
(If you accept, it puts up a web page and exits; if you decline,
it thinks for a bit and then exits silently.)
--- quote ---
The symptom you are describing is already explained in comment #1.
Did you apply my patch from comment #1?
It's still needed before you do any install.
Also when doing full install from DVD/ISO the issue described in
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8439#c16 (patch attached) is still
present.
With the recent incorporation of James' work on fusion and
MsiPublishAssemblies, VS.NET installs will greatly benefit because many
startup/run issues are due to skipped assembly installation steps.
Though there are various post-install issues ... frankly said, I'm not very
happy with the current SCM/services component state.
Regards
