Hi,
Yesterday I encrypted my /home partition using cryptsetup and luks format.
My system (Kubuntu 7.10 up to date) is running well but all Windows application
are very slow.
I tried to unmount my encrypted /home and mount the unencrypted one (my backup)
and the problem disappeared.

If there's any patch, I could test it.

I'm not a developer (wished I were but I'm just not this good in coding) I have
no idea if that is really the cause of everything but following the this thread
for quite awhile it seams that this change helped at least a little (to get a
battle.net game running). And as fare as I can tell it looks to me that this
might be the cause. The changes were commited some time around the version
0.9.18, changes to the line in question seam to work for the players:
>Btw, a little information: I compiled wine 0.9.45 without the change
>in that patch (i.e. I reverted the changes and compiled 0.9.45). It works!
So I just think there must be somebody who knows/understands why this change
from v0.9.17 to 0.9.18 causes Warcraft to be 100% solid stable in single player
and LAN-games (and this is really stable I can play for hours with no
limitations to original windows) but totally unstable on the internet.
Battle.net is the most important thing about WarCraft and I just can't stand it
any longer to boot into Windows just to play a good b.net-match (there is
basicly no other reason why I have an Windows installation).
I just wish somebody could fix this. And if there is nobody who can fix it I
could also compile it myself (as said before) I just don't know how to find the
code in question which freezes WarCraft and how it look before the crash.

Summary: Using Outlook Web Access under IE6 results in huge
memory leak
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.60
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wineserver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dcattran(a)gmail.com
Installed internet explorer 6.0 under Wine 0.9.60 using the ies4linus package.
Seems to work very well for most websites. When using it with Outlook Web
Access 2003 to access corporate e-mail site, it pegs the processor (both
cores), with the internet explorer process occupying one core, and wineserver
occupying the other core. Then the memory starts ramping up, very rapidly
until it occupies >3GB RAM and starts in on my swap space. Takes < 20 minutes
to max out everything.
If I close the IE window, one of the processors goes quiet, but wineserver
still pegs one processor (which is why I identified wineserver as the affected
component) and the memory leak continues.
The processes IEXPLORE.EXE, and explorer.exe are the main culprits for the
memory leak, however the size of the wineserver process is also increasing.
Neither the IEXPLORE.EXE or explorer.exe processes are killed when the main
window is close, using File->Close. Those two processes do not continue to
grow after the window is closed, but wineserver does seem to continue growing,
albeit slowly.
Killing the "explorer" processes seems to help a bit (i.e. the main memory is
freed), but wineserver continues to run, continues to peg one of the cores, and
it continues to grow. Killing wineserver (kill -stop) finally stops everything.

When I try to start any program in wine it prints out some messages and tells
me to report them.
Anyway, it has stopped some programs from working while on my friends computer
(Same version and OS) the same program works.. Until he now got the same
problem.
I think it happened when I tried to install Photoshop trough the Setup program.
I told my friend NOT to do it and only copy over the files from Windows.
But well he didn't listen.
Anyway I'm Attaching the error messages.
If you open it up you'll see that each call to "wine" gives the error.
I also checked for the version and it gave the same error.

I am running Lotus Notes 5.0.12.
When I move my mouse over Notes, the window automatically gets raised above all

Gnome 2.18); however I am using the sloppy window focus feature although I
doubt it should have any effect.
This is a regression that was introduced in 0.9.42 (and lingers on in 0.9.43).
I have rolled back to 0.9.41 and the issue is no longer present.

Unreal 2 "crash" with 0.9.60
Unreal 2 still kind of crashes because of DirectMusic.
I got no music during the intro before main menu, and when trying to play, the
game still exits and displays a "critical error" window (for error message, see
comment #2, first general protection fault).
The sound effects in the main menu and settings work.

This is with a clean .wine folder. Defaults generated by winecfg. I tried

Summary: Fritz 11 regression - crashes on startup
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.60
Platform: Other

Component: gdi32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

This gdi32/freetype.c patch from March 10 2008 introduces a regression in
Fritz11:
gdi32: Store the Windows path (if it's available) in the font registry
entries.
The application hangs in gdiplus in this case:
file = wine_get_dos_file_name(face->file);
if(file)
len = strlenW(file) + 1;

Summary: Tabula Rasa - Loading splash screen does not display
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.58.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P5
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: onshin(a)yahoo.com
Wine: 0.9.58 (Linux)
Tabula Rasa: 1.5 (latest version at time of writing).
Requires d3dx9_33.dll and must be run with /NoPatch switch
The initial loading splash screen no longer appears while the game is loading,
but the game does load OK with no impact on playability.
Additionally, when alt-tabbing back to the desktop there is now another "Tabula
Rasa" window which doesn't seem to render anything and is probably an artifact
of the missing loading screen.
Wine version 0.9.57 displayed the splash screen OK (though the progress bar was
at the top of the window instead of the bottom) and had no extra window when
alt-tabbing.

Accept RTF stream that does not start with {\rtf1 in 1.0 emulation
EM_SETTEXTEX has nothing to do with this bug. App streams in a RTF stream in
1.0 emulation mode, but does not prefix it with {\rtf1 header, so builtin
inserts it as plain text. Patch already sent to wine-patches.

Also it doesn't create any sort of backup, BUT you can restore your executable

Also the patch creates a new file "3dmark2.exe" iirc.

Correction:
Calling 3dmark.exe directly in the installation directory
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/3DMark 99 MAX/
produces the 3dmark.ras error. Strange thing.
Calling 3dmark from ~ with
wine "C:\\Program Files\\3DMark 99 Max\\3dmark.exe"
produces the already known DirectX6.1 error. WTF?
Either way using the patched ddraw.dll as native does NOT work for me.

But that doesn't make it work with wine, does it?
I tried setting ddraw.dll as native through winecfg, but now the application
doesn't find the "3dmark.ras" file. At least that's what it says shortly after
opening the main window (and then it exits).

I doubt Wine is protecting iexplorer.exe in any way. Perhaps the installer
detects the OS version and acts differently when it's set to 2000 or XP. Just
for references, where are you downloading IE 6 from?

Summary: Minimizing images window in Photoshop CS2 makes them

Status: UNCONFIRMED

When one minimizes the window in photoshop it should appear as small window bar
in lower left part of photoshop (the bars dock one after another when editing
multiple images), right now minimizing image makes it disappear and makes
completly inaccessible. THe only way to have the window back on screen is to
use "window menu" from top menu bar and on its end it has entries like
"untitled-1" etc.
That makes working with multiple images slower.

Platform: Other
URL: http://www.staruml.com
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download, regression
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
This is the next bug after bug 5565.
To repeat:
rm -rf .wine
wget
http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/staruml/staruml-5.0-with-cm.…
wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks vcrun6 msxml4
wine staruml-5.0-with-cm.exe
Start the app. Minimize it. Then try to restore it.
In wine-0.9.58 and earlier, it works.
In wine-0.9.59, the app vanishes from the desktop when you minimize it.
In wine-0.9.60, the app gets an entry in the taskbar again (whew), but
you still can't restore it (the option is greyed out).
(Oddly, Move isn't greyed out, and you can move a little decorated
zero sized window around with it.)
This is all on Gutsy. It was also mentioned by Benjamin Carlyle as
happening on Hardy Beta.
Since this is a regression right before code freeze,
it seems like something we'd want to fix for 1.0.

This is unlikely to be fixed for 1.0. Is the source of the current show
stopper known?

Hello Tomasz!
Tried, did everything you described, switched between sound modes, Wine modes,
also installed the patches. To put it simple, NO RESULT.
3D Device detection works only with in Windows 2000 mode and above. Software
mode does not work, even with loading of Dx7. Patches were installed, didn't
help it all.
Without the patch I had the crash, with it, simply nothing. The game got stuck
even at the start. No movies, nothing at all.

Game: Bought original Need For Speed Porsche 2000, 3.0.
Any more ideas? (Need for Speed III works great, WITH 3D support)

Norbert

I am using wine 0.9.50 built and running on Ubuntu 7.10. I have cleaned out my
~/.wine directory and installed an Oberon game (The Tuttles Madcap
Misadventures). This is what I have found:
1. Install the game.
2. Run launch.exe.
3. Run the gecko installer when prompted.
I get a blank (white) page at this point.
4. Copy shlwapi from your Windows machine/partition (I used an up-to-date
Windows XP version).
5. Set the shlwapi library to be a native override in winecfg.
6. Run launch.exe.
The content of the window is now displayed correctly.
7. Change shlwapi back to the builtin Wine version (this will produce the
original results).
8. Revert Jacek's patch.
NOTE: Using git apply --reverse fddd703.diff does not work (the patch no longer
applies). Therefore, I manually did this:
- if((dwFlags & URL_FILE_USE_PATHURL) && nByteLen >= sizeof(wszFile)
- && !memcmp(wszFile, pszUrl, sizeof(wszFile)))
- slash = '\\';
+ if(dwFlags & URL_FILE_USE_PATHURL)
+ slash = '\\';
to reproduce the effect that reverting the patch would have.
9. Run make to build the new Wine tree.
10. Run launch.exe.
I get a blank (white) page at this point.
Therefore, it looks like this patch is not the issue. Either that, or there is
another issue that needs fixing as well.

With that recipe, staruml complains
err:ole:create_server class {88d969c0-f192-11d4-a65f-0040963251e5} not
registered
quite frequently. It seems happier with msxml4,
doesn't even crash on exit. So a better recipe is:
rm -rf .wine
wget
http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/staruml/staruml-5.0-with-cm.…
wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks vcrun6 msxml4
wine staruml-5.0-with-cm.exe
The can't-recover-after-minimize problem is a new bug; it worked
ok up until wine-0.9.58. I'll file something for that.

For me, just using native shlwapi fixes the start screen for Oberon games
(tested Turtle Odyssey 2 and Kudos). I haven't tried reverting Jacek's shlwapi
change to see if that fixes this issue. Will try that later and report my
findings.

I acknowledge that patching the application is a solution to the problem. But
that's the same like applying copy protection patches (read: cracks) to game
that otherwise would not run on wine.

Can someone reopen this bug? I don't think it's a solution to just ignore the
problem.
The solution with a drop-down menu seems like a good one. With native windows I
have at least the possiblity to setup windows 98 with DirectX 6.1 - I have
nothing similar here.

I followed recipe from Comment #5 with good results. My main annoyance is that
StarUML is not appearing in the windows list. Whenever I absently minimise it,
it is gone beyond retrieval. I just have to hope I saved recently, and open
another copy. Is there a solution to this?
My system is Ubuntu 8.04 (beta), Wine version 0.9.59-0ubuntu4.

Summary: Microsoft Word 2000 - some fonts are always bold
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.54.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ben(a)bristoll.com
In Microsoft Word 2000, for some fonts only, the "regular" style fonts
(non-bolded) always appear as bolded in the document. These fonts appear to
stay bolded, even when you toggle them between being bold or un-bolded. For
some fonts, the italic style is also bolded (whether you make it bold or not),
while for some fonts, the italic style is always un-bolded, whether you make it
bold or not.
This is only happening with some fonts (Times New Roman, Garamond, Tahoma),
while others work as they should (Arial, Courier New, Century Gothic, Bitsream
Vera Sans).
This issue also seems to appear only in Word 2000. I do not see this problem
in Excel 2000 or PowerPoint 2000 (using the same fonts that have this issue in
Word 2000).
This issue first appeared for me in wine 0.9.53, and is still present in
0.9.54. When I revert to wine 0.9.46, the problem goes away (all fonts look as
they should).
Please let me know if there is any more information that would be useful.

Eventually what I'd really want is to just click on a DOS exe and have it open.

In case it's not clear, a (bad) workaround is to run with wineconsole.
This isn't great for commandline apps, as the window
vanishes as soon as the app is done, and output can't
be redirected.

Summary: BW Styler Plugin for Photoshop CS2 ugly cosmetic problem
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.55.
Platform: Other
URL: http://http://thepluginshop.com/products/download/BWStyl
erDemo.exe
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
Reported by Kyle G. at http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?14@@.3c05a212/14
The BW Styler Plugin has a cosmetic problem;
the word 'more' should be displayed to the
right of a bunch of pulldowns, but is displayed instead on top of them.
To repeat: install both Photoshop CS2 trial and BW Styler Demo as follows:
rm -rf ~/.wine
sh winetricks -q vcrun6 corefonts
cd installers/Photoshop\ CS2/
wine Setup.exe
cd -
wine BWStylerDemo.exe
Then start photoshop, create a blank image, and select the
plugin with Filter / Photo Wiz / BW Styler.
You should see the problem as soon as the filter's main
dialog comes up. I'll attach 'good' and 'bad' screenshots
(from Kyle G, but I see it too).

When I download the files for my comtia practice tests using v0.9.46 ,wine
works fine. After I upgrade to the new v0.9.54 it no longer works. I had to
downgrade and prevent updates from loading to use this type of site. Something
changed for the worse in the new version. Thanks Thank goodness the old version
works well.

I think I finally found a fix for this bug : the problem was that we are all 64
bit users, and our linux distribution install the mesa i686 libGL. I solved the
problem with Guild Wars by installing the 32 bits libs made for my graphics
card (on archlinux, lib32-nvidia-utils), Guild Wars works perfectly, no more
bugs.
It also solved the dual-TMU bug I got with World of Warcraft, so these two bugs
were surely linked.
Moreover, it fixes a bug I was getting, which made the game bug with the
message « Assertion `image_bytes <= ((4 * reply.length) - 0)' failed » ;) .
Installing the right libGL may solve a lot of 64 bits related bugs. Now, it's
6AM, going to sleep.

I just tried to launch GW again (I have not tried to launch it for 1 month),
and it now starts if I disable the "Vertex Shader Support" in winecfg. It may
have been fixed by a software update (wine or nvidia).
I could not test the game as it bugs when displaying a precise point of the
land we can see when logging in. I tried three times, and the game _always_
bugs at this point.

Bug 12481 seems to be affected by this (but not duplicate, because it is not
working completely after applying the patch).
If I apply the patch 10813, two errors, which was popped up are not popped up
anymore. HTML rendering is almost working - it is needed to click on "Show
tables conture" button, and the page is shown on 1/4 of the area it should be
shown.

however stays black, but i'm not sure how to use this app further. The menu's
are all responsive so that seems to work. For now i'll change component to

I revived an old computer with geforce 2 mx, installed linux on it, and I can
confirm there are problems with EXT_paletted_texture: corrupted fonts,
corrupted model textures etc. Everything goes away when I disable this
extension. I'm not seeing the "sky color cars" problem. I got nvidia-96xx
96.43.05-2 driver there.
Let's do this: since one issue that was affecting new cards as well got fixed
and this bug was closed, let's leave this bug alone and open new ones for new
problems if needed. I created this one:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12644
for the EXT_paletted_texture texture corruption problem. I'll try to look into
it.
Feel free to open more bugs for separate issues like that of sky colored cars.

I run World of Warcraft on Ubuntu Gutsy with Wine 0.9.59 (from the Wine

problem is solved, so this seems like a regression. I can't tell if this also
occurs in other games/programs.

"There's an annoying regression in this version of Wine. Some control
elements (at least list views and combo boxes, but not text fields or
command buttons) cannot be left with the Tab, Return or Esc keys any
more, that's a major usability problem for mouse haters like me. :-(
Just play a bit around in winecfg, it should be easy to reproduce."

"Downgrading to version 0.9.58-1 fixed the problem, so this is indeed a
new regression."

or
2) ImmGetDefaultIMEWnd() should return 0.
I think it's probably #1, but ImmGetDefaultIMEWnd does have a FIXME.
I wonder if all the WM_IME_RETURN values should be reversed from 1 to 0, but I
modified my code to return a zero in this one circumstance and the program did

Pokerstars issue.
With a previous version of Pokerstars this problem doesn't seems to exist.
Pokerstars version : 2.468.
Bug : If I change workspace in Gnome when a Pokerstars window is active
(focused), the window (Main Lobby, Tournament Lobby and also Tables windows)
stop to be refreshed (the last thing on screen can be seen instead of the
window).
Workaround :
- With F5 + left click + you can force the Table window to refresh again
(seems to work only with Tables windows).
- If you switch focus to a normal Linux window (like Nautilus) before changing
workspace everything seems to be fine !
Let me know if you need more information. (Sorry for my bad english).

IDA doesn't get a button on taskbar, so on minimizing the app it disappears and
can't be found (in non-virtual desktop mode).
Dmitry Timoshkov said on wine-devel about this problem:
"The problem with IDA is that the button you see in the Windows task bar
does not belong to the main IDA window, it belongs to a zero sized visible
window with the same caption. Since it's zero sized Wine doesn't map it all.
So, while formally it's a regression, technically it's not: main IDA window
has never been added to the task bar before my patch. This all can be easily
discovered with spy++ and a simple test app."
Can't be verified in free version (see url).

Both CBPlay and CBDesign use a 'selection window' meachinsm with a window that
has a drop down menu at the top and a bunch of icons appearing in the main part
of the window that can be dragged elsewhere. The drop-down menu selects which
set of icons should appear in the window, but when you use it to select
something else, the window contents does not change and you are still selecting
from the old set of things.
These windows are used for tile palettes in CBDesign and piece and marker trays
in CBPlay
To reproduce what I'm talking about, run "wine CBPlay.exe GenericGame.gam" and
click on the 'A' toolbar button to bring up piece tray A. It will probably
show the Red army with a red piece in the tray. Use the menu in the top of the
tray to select 'Blue army' and it should switch to show a tray with a blue army
piece, but it does not, and if you drag the still visible red piece from the
tray to a board, that's what you'll get. There's no way to get a blue piece
out of the tray.
I've tried this with both 0.9.57 and cvs

the following problem:
After minimizing and restoring the game window, it doesn't get any mouse or key
events (in fact, I can't see any mouse at all). However, the game itself looks
the way it should and animations continue to move. It just doesn't react to my
input. All I can do is completely kill it. However, this used to work till wine
0.9.56, so it's obviously a regression.
I can't see any console message regarding that problem (I only get many many
"software rendering used as not all properties could be tracked" which is not
new). And I don't have any 3D desktop manager installed (the reason why I'm
saying this is that I had the same problem months ago when using compiz). I'm
using Kubuntu 7.10 and the Wine packages from http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/.
I haven't yet done a bisect, but I hope to have the necessary time next
weekend.

Using FBSD 6.3 Patched, and the latest Wine 0.9.56
Whenever you try to install a game via Steam in Wine, it immediately crashes
with this error:
X Error of failed request: GLXBadDrawable
Major opcode of failed request: 143 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 217574

I'm pretty sure this isn't a driver problem, since it does it on a variety of
systems, nvidia and intel based, which of course are on completely different
drivers. I seem to recall this error occurring on Linux in the past as well,
does anybody know what the fix for it was?

Summary: iTunes doesn't register mouse clicks properly
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.56.
Platform: PC

OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: m.b.lankhorst(a)gmail.com
Installing the latest iTunes (v7.6.1) works now (set windows version to vista),
but there is a bug that prevents mouse clicks from working properly.
If you left click on the menu, it will open the menu then immediately close it
again, as if you double clicked on the menu button.
It also won't always register left clicks on the context menu. For example
going from 'music' to 'itunes store' will fail if you just left click, a
workaround is right-clicking on itunes store first and then left click on
itunes store.

I'm running Ubuntu Feisty with Gnome as the window manager and X in 16-bit

While using the slideshow feature in Picasa 2.7, I noticed the slideshow no
longer have keyboard focus. One should be able to use the left and right arrow
keys to move between images, and the escape key to quit out of the slideshow.
With the latest version, that no longer happens. One has to click the mouse to
to give the slideshow focus.

I found this problem in Picasa, but it may affect other applications as well.
In Picasa, select a picture and press Ctrl + k to bring up the keywords tool
window. Now press Alt + F4 to close the window.
On Windows, the keywords window is active. Pressing Alt + F4 closes the
keywords tool window.
On KDE, both the main window and the keywords window look like they are active.
If you start typing, the letters go into the keywords window, but if you press
Alt + F4, the main window closes. (and the tool window with it)
On Gnome, when the keywords tool window pops up, the keywords window looks like
the active window, but neither it nor the main window have focus.

I was hooked on Xtree back in the DOS days.
I became hooked on Ztree (http://www.ztree.com/html/ztreewin.htm)
when I switched from DOS to NT4 ten years ago.
And now on Linux, Ztree is outstandingly the only one program
from the microsoft days that I really miss.
I try to run Ztree under Wine and it is bounced off immediately and
posts a message "Could not get hWnd".
Is this a bug or a consequence of an intended feature. I could not tell.
Please Santa, bring me Ztree under Linux.

bug is even when using native dcom98, msvcrt, shlwapi and other DLLs that could
be easily substituted.
A thing that I have found is that on Windows the tooltip seems not to take the

sent to transfer the focus to the tooltip. On the next WM_MOUSEMOVE the error
