Bug 8436 is from the game itself, not the demo. I have tested the game with
wine 0.9.59 and the output is in that bug. I think that this bug is too old and
it should be market as duplicated for 8436 as now the game does the same as
this bug shows: it loads and no menu appears.
Therefore, I propose to drop this bug or mark it as duplicate of 8436

(From update of attachment 11850)
The game installs and begins but no menu appears and therefore it is
unplayable. I wonder if any of the fixmes is the responsible for no menu or if
there is something else. Nevertheless, since it is asking for d3d8 I think that
maybe the wine implementation of d3d9 is better than d3d8.

FL Studio 8 with Wine 0.9.59 now has the small (32x32 ?) window as a (same)
small height but (relatively) wide width window. Unminimize from the taskbar
still does not work (and before the initial minimize there is no taskbar button
at all (Gnome 2.20) which apparently is a new regression).

Summary: wine uses dual-screen, confines non-wine progs to one
screen
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.58.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jrle1(a)twcny.rr.com
I have a dual-screen (nvidia twinview) setup, with icewm window manager,
running debian lenny and wine 0.9.58. Normally my taskbar is at the bottom of
one screen on one monitor. The other, second, screen on the second monitor is
"above" the first screen on the first monitor.
When I start wine - any wine program, and even just running winecfg, I have
full access to both screens ***for the wine program***.
Alas, while giving itself full dual-screen access, wine moves my taskbar to the
bottom of the second screen and completely deprives me of access to the first
screen for non-wine programs. The desktop itself and all non-wine programs are
confined to the second screen.
The only way I have found to get back to my normal dual-screen setup after
starting wine is to log out of X and back in.

Ok, I know I got into it with Dmitry about when the patch keyword can be
used...but that hack absolutely cannot be considered a patch, it just skips the
specific custom actions and gets us no closer to understanding the problem.

This is a spin-off of bug 11867 - I found that some use of

mshtml:HTMLDocument2_get_location() rather than just a stub
as it currently is.
Was looking for mshtml or gecko as a component, but I guess shdocvw is close?

Console output with described fixes
There a couple of things to do to get this demo installed and running but once
it does attempt to load, it fails.
To install:
Install mono 1.2 with:
winetricks mono12
It will refuse to run at first due to modified executable code, but this has
been fixed by the developers and the fixed exe is here:
http://www.epicgames.com/download/UT3Demo-XP64-2K3.zip
Named XP64-2K3 because it wouldn't work with those (or Wine), not because it is
a 64-bit executable.
It also needs various native DLLs to run, and UseGLSL set to enabled to work.
Once it attempts to run, it displays the splash screen, then fails with the
attached console output.
Guessing wine-directx-d3d as the component, but not sure.

Inside the rectangle sometimes appear objects which shouldn't be rendered at
that moment like soldiers, trucks or tanks.
I'm using wine-0.9.55-388-gea56370. This bug makes the game unplayable.

Hello,
I tried setting up 3DMark2000, the free version, who's version number is 1.1.
On Ubuntu Feisty. Looking at the app db, it has a platinum rating, but the
setup failed pretty much right away, at 0%.
Here's the error it gives:
"An error occurred during the move data process: -113
Component:
File Group:
File: C\windows\temp\WZS315D.tmp\data1.hdr."
I'm using wine 0.9.44-1~getdeb1
You can obtain the free version, the one I'm trying out, from here
(http://tucows.com/download/preview/211318.html).
PS. No idea what component this belongs to, so like the instructions say, I
just guessed.

Some objects render incorrectly in Commandos 3 - Destination Berlin (see

Doesn't occur if the app is forced not to use P8 textures, so the bug(s) are
somewhere in palettized texture code.
Note: this is NOT a dup of #10973, it's some separate problem.

The setup will install 4 exe's vmalight.exe, vmabasic.exe, vmaexpert.exe and

run but don't display correctly before that.

I followed the HOWTO at http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3212 and
WMP 10 does indeed appear to install without first installed wmp 9 and you can
even start it up. However it crashes soon afterwards. I attach the full output
of the crash that happened this time when clicking on the "guide" menu. I had
also tried
wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks dcom98
as suggested.
This is on 0.9.58 with the patch from
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12280 to revert a regression.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=24da89e9-b581-47b0…
You should be able to download "Application Compatibility Toolkit.msi" from the
site, it weights ~10 MB.
(If it won't help, then someone hopefully could file another bug about MSI or
other problems ACT)

That makes no difference. It's just the temporary directory where custom
action dlls are extracted to.

With points 1 2 and 3 above, the cursor grabbing works well for me.
In windowed apps, however, the mouse event is delvered with a coordinate about
20 pixels above where the pointer was: could be difference between whole_rect
and virtual_screen_rect when a title-bar is drawn?
Also, it still gives zero cursor movement when up against the edge of the
window in virtual desktop mode. - is the cursor actually getting warped?

I retested this game a few days ago. Apart from some strange text issues in the
menu, it seems to run fine directX-wise. However this bug is for the installer
( I added the keyword "installer" already long time ago and removed category
"directX-d3d"). It's a bug in WritePrivateProfileString.
As a side-note, a recently opened bug
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11494
also revealed a quite similar bug in Profile_Open, so i guess some more work
still needs to be done.

I fixed the pIB = NULL bug some time ago by holding an internal reference on
assigned buffers instead of setting them to NULL when releasing them. So
Direct3D-Wise the game should work now.
If this is a different bug, either explicitly state so or file a new bug(and

The thing with Mozilla is interesting indeed. The program's icon at the right
side opens www.softprogres.sk webpage, and it works correctly in Wine! It opens
a new tab in the running Firefox. So the Wine certainly KNOWS, where the to
find a web browser.
So I don't understand, why the wine cannot display the HTML pages that are
called in the drug info tabs. Maybe a different system call?

A new pacient creation screen
First You will need to create some pacients under Windows, because under Wine
the function dosen't work (bug 12342).
So, You will create the record this way. When You're in the app, please click
on the blank paper icon in the upper left corner (or press Ctrl+Ins) in order
to create a new pacient record. You will face a screen demanding the name or
Unique ID of the pacient. Type some foo name.
Now You will be allowed to enter a new pacient, as seen on SCREENSHOT. Yu just
need to check the box "generované" in upper left, then (or after typing the
surname in the field "PRIEZVISKO in the left middle), You should face the new
window, where You type some bogus ID, date of birth, state and gender
(muž-žena).
Then confirm using the bottom right button "Uložiť" or "OK".

The problem is getting worse because the latest versions of WinAmbulancia
(i.e.5.6) don't allow to continue by just clicking at "storno". Last version
that I have and allowed running the program by bypassing the date (storno) was
the version 4.9, so if You have the version downloaded somewhere, please KEEP
IT.

Hi all,
I'm wondering if there's something new to fix this bug 'cause I got the same
crash with my CS source : I can play randomly between 2sec or couple of
minutes before hl2 crash.
It really seems to be linked to headshot !! I tried to change the
"OffscreenRenderingMode" key to the value "fbo", "backbuffer" or "pbo" without
success !!
I'm not expert on compiling source so I didn't try to add the code to correct
the font issue.
I'm using CSS through PlayOnlinux, so I'm not really sure to see how I can
specify steam to run under win XP and CSS under Win98 (yes because steam
doesn't want to start if wine is set for win98 !
If someone can tell me if he finally found the trick more than 2 minutes, and
even with headshot, it would be so nice .

This bug seems to be the same as #3915.
It happens with Wine 0.9.57 and it says:
fixme:font:ExtTextOutW flags ETO_NUMERICSLOCAL | ETO_NUMERICSLATIN | ETO_PDY

In this case, I installed GTK and dependencies for Windows from gtk.org, no
installers, this are the official versions of the runtime, and used the
gtk-demo program to test.
Versions:

It will take seven hours to download from there, so I won't

The app i mentioned as i reported the bug now runs mostly correct - the friend
of mien hast stopped devloping this app - it crashes sometimes in wine, if the
app does File actions, but this is may another bug - I'll check that later -
bug the SetConsoleDisplayMode seems to work for this case now with the last
stub implementation.
Thank you for fixing that bug - even it took a long time.

Nah, the list could be compiled at build time and
baked into winewrapper or something, doesn't need
to be computed at runtime. I'm not saying it's
worth doing, though.

Sadly, starting a new gnome session does not set
the variable everywhere. It's still only set
in the special Gnome Terminal launcher,
not in launchers you create yourself (or that
Wine creates), I think. We should probably verify
that when one properly installs a wininet app,
starting it from the Applications menu
gets the proxy settings right.
I realize that wine's iexplore doesn't use wininet;
we still have to fix it to obey the proxy settings.

No wininet calls in that trace, so this app really depends on the value being
present at startup. I just checked a fresh Windows install and the value is
present there, so it looks like we need to create it at wineprefixcreate time.
I'll send a patch.

Anyone have access or a new link to the autocad 2008 trial?
It's on the wiki-page:
http://wiki.winehq.org/AutodeskAutocad?highlight=%28autocad%29
You need to fill in registerform for the trial
I had to download it from another site, as this link is only for US/Canada
only. For European users you will be directed to another link

Starting a new Gnome session should make sure it's set everywhere.
> Wine's iexplore does not yet obey these settings,
That's because it doesn't use wininet. The registry value could be read of
course
but we may have to duplicate the code that reads the environment variable.

I just tried Firefox 3 beta 4 on Windows, it doesn't pick up these settings.

That would require loading each Wine dll one by one to fetch debug channels
from it. That's not worth an effort IMO: anyone who needs to see a list of
documented debug channels is not a developer, and developers can figure that
out on their own.

Note that the graphical Gnome settings only
affect sessions started with Gnome's special Terminal
menu item, not any other launcher. When testing
this, make sure the http_proxy variable is set
by gnome before jumping to conclusions.
Wine's iexplore does not yet obey these settings,
so we can't close the bug yet. To fix this part,
we'll need to propagate the settings to Gecko, as
described here:
http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Mozilla_Embedding_FAQ:How_do_I...#How_…
Likewise, launching Windows Firefox 3 beta 4 inside Wine
does not pick up these proxy settings. Seems
like it ought to, but what do I know...
Anyone know a good free http client based on wininet we
could use to test?

Summary: appdb appears favors old test data over new?

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Looking at this page, I am the super maintainer for this app and have submitted

It appears to show the rating by this other maintainer even though I have
submitted two new lots of test data.

Using +relay first to find out what dlls are involved (if you don't know),
and then grepping those DLLs' source for WINE_DEFAULT_DEBUG_CHANNEL,
is actually the best way to go.
If we added an option to wine itself to print out the list
of dlls and associated channels, that might be handy, though.
In any case, I don't think this should be a 1.0 blocker, let's
defer it to 1.2.

Well, well, well, at last the game started!
The error i wrote about before was due to SecuROM protection (it was easy to
gather this information over the net) and the game was using the included
cms32_nt.dll because the emulated windows was winXP. I just tried setting wine
to emulate win98, HoD used a different library for protection (cms32_95.dll)
and now the game starts!
Yeahhhhhh, thank you all!

fixme:mountmgr:harddisk_ioctl unsupported ioctl 2d4800

Do we really want to add a description of each debug channel to the
documentation? Regular Joe user shouldn't need to know the debugging channels
as a part of his regular user experience. If he runs into a problem, we can
ask him to turn on a particular set of debug channels, or he can read through
the generic debug channel documentation ("WINEDEUB=+nameofchannel") if he's
astute enough. My major concern with this issue is that it doesn't scale at
all. If the answer to my first question is yes, please answer why.

Yes this is still an issue in fact AFAIK the game no longer loads in wine
thanks to a regression bug caused back around wine 0.9.38.

commit d990c0d8e50c5eaabac8b855b9511cbc42d783bd
Author: Eric Pouech <eric.pouech(a)wanadoo.fr>
Date: Sat Sep 30 21:20:41 2006 +0200
ntdll-kernel32: WaitCommEvent.
- implemented IOCTL_SERIAL_WAIT_ON_MASK for DeviceIoControl
on serial lines in ntdll
- now using thread pool (instead of simple thread) for the
background operations (this should help some high load
situations)
- used this to implement WaitCommEvent on top NtDll functions
- in kernel32, removed now the no longer used termios/ioctls...
for comm devices

Is this still an issue in current (0.9.58 or newer) wine?
